In addition to the slot-loading DVD player, a host of digital inputs make for easy viewing of digital photos (via either the memory card socket or USB port). Or connect a HDTV receiver to view next-generation detail and clarity. Or you can use the 26" LCD as a computer monitor (via the VGA port,) with a resolution of 1280 x 762. Surfing the Web becomes a whole new experience in widescreen. Finally, a DVI port rounds out the input options.
Beyond media versatility, the Mintek scores well in its technical aspects too. The LCD panel has a long life (rated at 50,000 hour lifetime,) a respectable contrast ratio of 600:1, and excellent brightness, thanks to a new backlighting technology.
The DTV-263 looks high-tech too. Its slim profile lets you put it almost anywhere you need it. The 26" screen, while not as grand as a 42" version, is large enough for great viewing without overpowering modest spaces.
Mintek has produced a great HDTV-ready multimedia unit perfect for the budget-driven.
In the box: TV, multi-function remote control, composite and component video cables, an audio cable, and a USB cable.
1 Review of Mintek DTV-263 26" LCD TV/DVD Combo
For those of you interested in this LCD TV but have had a hard time finding information about it, I hope that this review
helps. I have included at the end of this review a list of features and specifications that Amazon.com has not. Also check
out the extra pictures I have posted above to give you a better idea of the unit.
First of all, this is an excellent TV for the price. It is way better than I expected. Compared to my Samsung 42" plasma,
this Mintek beats it hands down (except for the size).
* Excellent picture quality:
What surprised me the most was the excellent quality of the picture. Bright and vibrant are the words that come to mind when
describing this beauty. When I first set it up I placed it next to my Samsung plasma for comparison (this LCD TV is for
bedroom use). I was stunned how much brighter and how much more detail I could see compared to the plasma. Black levels on
this LCD is comparable to CRT TVs. Also, I was unable to detect any motion trails or blurring effects whatsoever - that
blew me away. And 26" is a good size. I was worried it would be too small. It is just right.
* Analog cable:
Analog cable on this LCD TV (as with any other) is watch able but it yearns to be better. So if you get this TV subscribe to a
digital service.
* Digital cable:
WOW! Now we are getting somewhere. Standard digital cable and Comcast HDTV service is as close to perfection as a sub $1000
LCD TV can get. Excellent black levels, no motion trails in fast moving scenes. Bright and vivid picture.
* I have not used (nor will I use) the composite or S-video inputs. So no comment there.
* HD Component Input:
Only one of these on the unit but hey, the DVD player is built-in. Combined with the fact that there is also a DVI - this is
OK.
* DVI:
It's digital and it looks and works great. The downside is that it's audio in is an 1/8" input. They must have intended this
for commuter use. Also, you can only use the DVI or VGA one at a time. Bummer.
* Built-in Slot Load DVD Player:
Very convenient, cleans up the area from gear being everywhere. It works as a typical DVD player should. No bad things to
report. The nicest thing is the picture quality. Since there is no analog to digital conversion here then the pic quality is
awesome. Better than I have ever seen. Oh, and as soon as you pop in a disc the mode will change to DVD and the menu is
booting up. It also played most formats I threw at it including but not limited to: DVD / DVD-R / DVD+R/RW/ MPEG4 / MP3 / CD Audio
/ CD-R / CD-RW / Kodak Picture CD / DiVX - - - Sweet!
* Memory Card slot:
Fun stuff. Come home from an outing and pop in the card - viola! Instant slideshow. My 2MP camera pictures look stunning. I
love it. The family does to. As soon as the card is popped in TV changes mode and thumbnails of pics start drawing. You can
either control the playback yourself or put it on auto-matic slideshow.
* Remote control:
Nice layout. Doesn't look to bad. But it is very light even with the batteries in which gives it a cheap feeling. I hope I
don't break it. But it is responsive and seems to be omni-directional.
At this time I can not comment on the long term reliability of this unit. I will post another review in a few months or if
something goes bad. No comment on customer support. The manual is spares but enough to get you going.
So I am going to give this TV 4 stars because everything works as advertised and exceeds most of my expectations. I would
recommend this TV.
Thank you
