1 If only there were a zero star rating.....
I have been a loyal customer or ATT for years and upgraded from a problem free Nokia 3360 to this flimsy piece of garbage. This is, hands down, the most horrible phone I have ever owned. For starters, the case is made of cheap plastic which would be ok if the inner components were of superior quality, but they are not. In this case, you can definitely judge a book by its cover. If you are going to talk more than 15 min's, have the charger ready because the battery will die. Of course, you will only get to use the charger if the phone LETS you stay connected for 15 min's. For me, the average is 7. Then the phone will either drop the call or the unit itself will just shut down. And keep in mind, the entire time you are talking there is static and calls fade or blank in and out. The phone gets very, very hot while in use, standby time is non-existant and the extremely smudge-friendly display is a constant annoyance. I could go on, but won't. Read the other reviews and make an intelligent decision. Decide against this bug-ridden device.
2 Worse Phone EVER
I was with Nextel for years and went through many Motorolas with no complaints then I came to ATT and got this phone. Oh my goodness it's SO awful. Every compaint you have ever heard about any cellphone ever... I've expirenced that problem with my phone. I can't be on a phone call for longer than three minutes without the call being dropped, my calls are never clear, I could go on and on... just trust me on this one... this phone=bad
3 Awful...just awful
Bought 2 of these at top dollar ~1yr ago for me and my wife .. same 'ol story .. dropped calls, poor reception, emergency only status in high reception areas, phone turns off out of the blue, voicemail alerts coming through days after the fact (after a phone reboot), etc, etc, etc. ....and "NO" it's not the provider - I've been with AT&T Wireless for over 10 years and have had the original analog Moto flip phones, several different Nokias, and now these - never has it been this bad, even in the old analog and early digital days. Phone has nice features, nice look, color display, slim & lightweight design - it's just a POS.
4 Worst Telephone I have in my Life
I have more than 10 years using cell phones, This Motorolla phone is by far the worst cell phone I ever have....
1- The reception is terrible, i have friends with AT&T phones next to me, and They have better reception, I changed to a new T721 under warranty and it's the same....no good reception.
2- The menus...you really need to use the manual, or have a PhD in astrophysics......
I will not give this phone to anyone, not even enemies......please leave this telephone alone.......
5 Stay away from this phone
Bought 2 of these phones in May. They both drop calls and both have a lot of static. It is very frustrating to try to have a conversation on them. I am going out today to buy a Nokia 6200. Had a Nokia before and loved it so will go back to Nokia.
6 Piece of crap
The phone seems to work well, but the ear piece keeps breaking. Me and my wife both got the same phone from AT&T. We had them two weeks and the knuckle holding the earpiece on broke on both phones. We got new ones and a few weeks later the same thing happened again. We are now waiting on batch number THREE to come back. Motorola keeps saying it's our fault, but they just don't want to deal with it. Don't buy this phone!!!
7 DON'T DO IT!!!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T buy this piece of junk. I have had to replace the phone three times in three months. GOODBYE AT
8 DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!
I bought this phone because T-Mobile didn't offer the v60 in my market. I was just looking for a flip phone that had external caller id. I wasn't really thrilled with the looks or the external camera attachment (which I may have used once).
I have had this phone replaced three times, each one having a different, unique problem.
The first one would not take a charge, either from my home or car charger;
the second one would turn off if I closed it too quickly (or whenever it felt like);
the third one would phase out display items on the exterior LCD screen.
T-Mobile and Motorola both helped me with the resolution to my ongoing ordeal with this phone. I now have a v600; I am so happy with this phone! I think it is available with most major carriers. Please read the reviews for the v600 phone. DO NOT BUY THE T722i UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!
9 DON'T DO IT!!!
I really wish I had read these reviews BEFORE getting sucked into this phone. But I was tempted by the phone's cool appearance and a great deal from AT&T. Some deal. My complaints are the same as everyone else's:
1. The phone reboots for no reason in the middle of phone calls. FREQUENTLY.
2. Even when my signal bar is full, the people I am talking to hear nothing but static or the dreaded digitized "devil voice." And I hear about every third word they speak.
3. Using any sort of touch-tone menu (bank accounts, navigating through answering services, etc.) is annoying. Every time you push a button you hear LOUD static.
4. I'd estimate that 80 percent of my calls end up getting dropped if I'm on the line more than a few minutes. That is no exaggeration. And it is unacceptable. I have used this phone (or tried) all over Florida, so it's not just that my local signal is weak. I'd have more success with a walkie-talkie.
I bought this phone to replace my Motorola v60, which also had serious reception problems. But this hunk of junk was even worse. Enough is enough. Goodbye, Motorola, and goodbye AT&T.
PLEASE, save your money (and your sanity) and do NOT buy this product. Read the reviews for Nokia and others. I sure wish I had.
10 works good, lasts long time
I have dropped this phone, it has slid across concrete, done cartwheels down flights of stairs, and it STILL works great!! it barely even has any scratches on it! downfalls? the color screen isn't what i would call color, kind of faded. the menus are a little slower than i would like. and once in a great while the phone just goes dead. the screens go blank. when it comes back on there is no service. you have to turn it off and back on and then it works flawlessly for about a month usually. i don't know what this is...maybe it's because i dropped it down a few flights of stairs?? :) all in all it's been a really reliable little phone. crystal clear calls with AT&T
11 Man hands !
Switched to ATT GSM service. Got the Samsung x426. It was tiny and had only ridiculous muzak songs as ringtones. And they were inaudible. I had to return it.
Got the t721 and LOVE it. Loud, NORMAL ringtones. external display. Larger and more comfortable in a man's hand. Solid.
Down side: can't find anywhere that can send a ringtone to it. I've researched and found these phones aren't good at all at downloading much of anything (wallpaper, tones, nothing). Bit of a learning curve too, lots of features. Or rather, just complicated to get to some of the obvious things. It's like a PC in a sense. Boring, redundant features and icons, but works. Not like the Mac-like Samsung: intuitive, stylish, hip. Not a big deal though.
12 Amazon is great.. phone is great, just say away from AT&T
WARNING: AT&T representatives ("Dawn: R361" and "Max: N360") themselves said during my troubleshooting (as detailed below) that I should NOT have bought through Amazon, and that they have received a barrage of complaints from Amazon buyers! I still really like Amazon, but they're integration with AT&T is non existent. People should not have to wait 2-3 days for service after they receive the phone. Buy the same phone on Amazon, but a different carrier.
13 It's ok BUT..
overall this is a good phone, the menu is easy to navigate and it has great volume on calls,,, however, the ring volume really sucks, i often miss calls and have had the phone next to me,, dont have a radio on!
14 Solid Phone
I originally had a Motorola V60 (best ever designed) for years, I signed up for a new AT&T GSM plan and chose a Samsung 426 phone. I quickly realized I made a mistake and exchanged the 426 for the Motorola T721. I returned the 426 with no questions asked or any problems from AT&T.
The T721 has proved to be an excellent phone. It has a clean classic look, external caller ID, a traditional ringtone, clean keypad, and clearly distinguishable numbered buttons with good seperation. After you get use to the display icons, the screen is large with good contrast.
My only complaints are; takes awhile to turn on and the belt clip is a little flimsy, unlike the V60's. The T721 tends to spin too easily on the belt clip. Otherwise, the T721 is second only to the V60.
15 Overpriced piece of junk
What Motorola was thinking? This phone finishing is cheap, battery life is poor (compared to Nokia for example), the display should not be called a color display (faded colors), zero for connectivity (no bluetooth, infrared, etc). Low volume. Keys don?t work well, you have to use force. Mine burned out when warranty ended. Motorola, never again.
16 Previous review update...Buy the Nokia 3100 instead.
I just reviewed this phone, and I think I typed the wrong Nokia product number in as the phone I traded this for. So I wanted to clarify...buy the Nokia 3100 instead of this crappy phone.
17 Don't buy this phone
I just upgraded from my AT&T digital Nokia 8260 (never a problem) to this GSM phone (I thought I'd be cool and try a flip). As soon as I got it and charged it and activated it, it didn't work right. It randomly shuts off, whether working in the functions or on a call. Sometimes it would magically come back on with a "no service" message. (And it takes forever to boot up anyway). I could not get it to complete one phone call. I called AT&T, and since I only had it one day (within their 30 day 'buyer's remorse' period), I asked for a Nokia 3301 to replace it, which works great, it's the one I ordered for my husband and son. I got the Nokia today, they have fast FedEx shipping. Stick with Nokia.
18 Great Phone - Great Features - Great Value
After reading several reviews on this site I was concerned with my latest order with AT&T wireless.
I ordered 2 Mot 721 phones with AT&T national plan. They arrived a week ago an have performed flawlessly. I am impressed with their compact size and features. The display is well laid out and easy to read.
The recpetion is great full bars across the top all the time. The sound quality is excellent in the car, office or outside.
Surfing the web has been easy as a nice feature for checking news, stocks and sports updates.
AT&T was running an online special and I got both phones for $50, they waived their activation fee and I have unlimited phone to phone minutes. And for the money, they have the best national footprint outthere. A+++.
19 Nightmare purchase
This phone was a huge mistake. Looked cool, never worked. I made the mistake of not having returned it within the 30 day return period. I never got reception from my home and was billed $400 for having calls forwarded to my home number. Now ATT Wireless is trying to make me pay for the early termination
penalty. Yeah, right...
20 State of the Art
I got the Motorola T721 from a SunCom affiliate in early May. It works great, the GSM coverage is reliable, 3 to 4 bars most of the time. Stand-by time is 3 to 4 days on the Li-Ion battery. The original battery wouldn't hold a charge, but the local SunCom store replaced it without a fuss. I like the flip-phone design, large color screen, voice-dialing, traditional num-pad, and sleek styling.
21 well, at least it works....
Maybe I've been spoiled by having 3 previous Nokia's that never had any problems? I don't know, maybe I'm being too hard on this phone that:
1) drops a call at least once a week and the screen goes blank
2) signal goes to "emergency only" all of a sudden in a 2 or more bar signal area
3) doesn't hang up when i push the (red) hang up button or doesn't answer the call when i push the (green) answer button -- happens about once every two weeks
However, there are some good points to this phone:
1) it's pretty!
2) it's sleek!
3) it's light!
I gave this phone 2 stars because at least it works most of the time.
I just wanted a low price flip phone and this was it at the time. I wish Nokia had flip phones!!! I would switch in a heartbeat.
Oh yeah, and don't even get me started on my AT&T service, after switching from Cingular....when I called AT&T about my T721, they gave me some crap about how I shouldn't leave my phone on continuously and that I need to turn my phone on and off every day to give my phone number priority in their database, or something stupid like that.
And if you want to use AT&T's phone warranty service, they make you pay $25 not including the shipping you pay to send them your phone!
All around not a happy camper with the T721 & AT&T
22 Don't Do It!
On a daily basis I want to throw this phone out the window. It makes me miss my 1998 Nokia Brick-sized phone. It drops pretty much every call I make. It randomly shuts off for about 30 seconds and then magically comes back on with a "no service" message. I can be standing in one place and the signal will range from full, to half, to none, to "emergency only" and back up to full signal within 15 seconds. I have at&t, but know other people who have the same phone for other carriers and hate it as well. This is definitely one of the worst purchases I've ever made.
23 Solid, Basic, NextGen Phone
I was looking for a phone, first and foremost. Not a camera-phone, or game console-phone or even a pda-phone.
If you want a reliable, tech-savvy, GSM wireless flip-phone with a few extra frills then the T721 will most likely do the trick.
Big color screen; long battery life; very lightweight; customizable (within reason) inside and out; voice dialing/voice command; SMS messenging; phonebook w/500 entries; and Java support for downloads.
If you need more than that, look elsewhere but be ready to pony up some cash for the extras.
Also, I've never had any technical problems or glithces with this phone. It has worked flawlessly for me since the day I switched my sim card over.
24 Class Action Now. The phone is a rip-off!
I was assured by AT&T that the phone T721 was superb in Dec 03, and had it exchanged in March 04. I would have earlier, but I thought I did something wrong. THE PHONE SUCKS! It drops calls and shuts off in the middle of calls, reception and volume poor and at the end of the month you have to pay for this frustration. I have complained so much I have a headache with their usual response, " whal shend dru onoder wone ". The voice of some low wage foreigner. Motorolla and AT&T knows very well that the phones are no good and continue to sell these model phones on the market, deceiving consumers and taking our money. THIS MUST STOP. (...)
25 Motorola 721 GSM Phone. All I have is trouble
I have had a lot of Cell phones . The 721 is the worst cell phone I ever owned in my life. It reboots by itself, it drops calls all the time. I had it replace 2 times in the first month. Replacement 721 have the same problem
26 Dont buy
extremely bad phone. poor reception even when the signal is good. constantly breaks up. screen blanks out. goes straight to voice mail a lot of times.
27 Just Terrible
I hate this phone. I was a Nokia user until this, and I would go back in a minute. I had to get a replacement in less than 3 months, thinking it was just a defect, but when I went in to AT&T the girl at the counter said she used to have the same but couldn't stand all the problems. This phone will shut off in the middle of a call and it takes 2-3 minutes to reboot. I have horrible reception with a constant crackling in conversations. I am currently looking into what I can do to get a different phone... at this point I don't care if I have to pay for a whole new one! DO NOT purchase this phone... don't even take it if they give it away free!!!
28 blacks out
this phone is the most undependable phone i've had, my wife and i both have this phone and have had to send both in for service within 3 months of owning them. the replacement phones so far still will turn off by themselves in the middle of a call and then reboot, same as the first two. my kids use the ericsson, siemans, and the nokia and not one problem. My last two phones were nokia phones also. STAY AWAY FROM THE 721, ALL OVER THE INTERNET YOU WILL FIND PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS IVE HAD, MOTOROLA KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT SOLD THEM TO ATT ANYWAY. If you really want the motorola go up-line just stay away from the 721.
29 AT&T Wireless GSM service is really bad....
I've owed the phone for about half a year now. No way will I recommend it to my friends! As I said, the service in Los Angeles area is bad. Some areas that are well covered by Verison or even Sprint give you the usual "Emergency Only" sign. Some areas, like the famous ski resort Mammoth Lakes, have no reception at all! For the whole vacation you can leave the phone in your suitcase. Bad reception in buildings as well. Many dropped calls...
The phone itself is OK to me, although I would mention the thin plastic battery cover that feels cheap and fragile.
30 Pretty Good
I see a lot of people have complained about this phone. I just recently bought the phone on the internet before I read these reviews. I was honestly about to cry because from the reviews, I thought it was going to be the crapiest phone ever. I am extremely glad to say that that is not true. I really like my phone. The reception is pretty decent... the battery life is pretty good too. It is great to show off if youre into that, and the games you can download are amazing and fun. You can play great games like bejewled, frogger, and so much more. The menu could be complicated for some people, but for the technology based world we live in, it should be no problem for most people. Of course this phone is no perfect, but like I said I like it.
31 "Great Phone"
My wife and I both own the Motorola T721.
We received them free from AT&T Wireless.com.
These phones are terrific!! They use GSM/GPRS service.
I seldom get dropped calls on the T721 using AT&T wireless in my area (Central Florida). This phone has one of the brightest and largest color screens I've seen. Also one of the absolute best features(you can read the screen in sunlite). You can connect to the internet quickly and the download time is fast. The voice dial feature works well also. Note: This is a plastic phone but seems very durable and lite. A good leather case will protect this phone from falls. I've dropped mine several times with no damage.I hope this review was helpfull to future buyers. I researched wireless phones very carefully before choosing this one. This is a quaility Motorola product. CON: This phone can't be set to backlite always on--flip open.
You can only set it for maximum 20 seconds on.
32 Broke $ Again...
I had a Nokia and loved it... but because I left it out in the rain with no insurance on my phone I had to get a new one. Well, I didn't care for the new Nokia so I descided to take the plunge and get a Motorola. Unfortunately because I didn't have insurance on my NOKIA I had to pay FULL PRICE for a new phone. This was due to the fact that I still had the contract with US Cellular, I paid $262.00 for my T731 in October of 2003 and this time purchased the insurance. Well let me tell ya something about that insurance the cell phone companies sell you... They will pay for the phone if you drop it in a pool, leave it out in the rain, throw it against the wall but if the phone breaks due to normal use it's not covered so BUYER BEWARE>>> ALWAYS READ WHAT YOU SIGN!!! Anyway back to the T731 On March 14, 2004 the phone rang... I flipped it open to say HELLO and the hinge broke on the phone. The piece just cracked off. I don't believe it's very durable as I don't overuse my phone, nor was this phone ever dropped. After looking at other phones after this incident it doesn't appear that Motorola took the "SLIM HINGE" into consideration when constructing the phone. I have contacted Motorola and they are willing to either replace or repair the phone. YIPPEE! Unfortunatly the consumer always has to pay the price for the manufacturers errors. It cost me $10.00 to send the phone to Motorola and if not back within 15 days I will have no phone. I just expected better quality for a phone that cost so much.
33 The Motorola T720 is the worst phone I have ever used
I bought a Motorola T720 with a Verizon phone plan in December. The phone is terrible. It takes almost a minute to turn on. It shuts itself off even when it is pluged into the charger. It will not stay on for over 4 hours without being recharged, and I have it set on the lowest settings for length of time the light remains on, etc. It gets the worst reception of any phone I have ever owned. My entire family has Verizon as their service provider, and they will all have 5+ bars of reception while my phone will have none, in the same location. It drops calls 9 out of 10 times I try to make them. The volume on it is so quiet, that it cannot be used anywher but in a quiet room, so don't plan to use this phone in your car or at the mall. It is the worst $200 I have ever spent.
34 not worth it @ all
This is the worste fone so far...this fone has a very bad signal not to mention att sux..the ringtones sound like crap...it has no camara n if u wanna buy one it takes all the memory of your fone...it cost me 150 bux n seriously its not worth it @ all..mMode its not good its sooo slow..
dont get this fone....UNLESS UR AN YEAR OLD MAN
35 Don't know what all the fuss is about....
Pro's ..
Love the phone.. Light, compact and great sound.
Solid construction.. tons of after market options...
Looks and feels nice in your hand.. comes with most of the required accessories.
Good signal quality..
Con's..
battery life is not great though for about $20 on eBay you can buy the 1400mah battery and expanded battery door... Have not tried it but I think it would help...
All advanced feature phones have a learning curve.. this one is about average.... Not great but not the worst.
Considering that you can get them from most cell companies for little or nothing.. they are a great phone at a better price..
If you are willing to shell out $400 or more I guess you can find more wiz-bang.. but Hay It's a phone and in 2 or 3 years they will have smaller, lighter, more features packed into a phone so.. It's not a life long commitment.. Enjoy!
36 On the outside it looks great, on the inside it stinks.
My wife and I were looking to switch carriers this last fall. After we selected a new service provider we found a great deal on the Motorola T721 phone (better than free). I was really excited because I had heard a lot of good things about previous Motorola flip phones and jumped at the chance to get this upper scale model. Normally I am a strict Nokia user but as I stated previously, I had heard good things and the price was something I couldn't pass up.
Immediately after chrging the two phones and turning them on I was disapointed. I am very used to Nokia's intuitive menu navigation, so when I started using the T721 I was shocked to find the menus to be horrible and the button navigation was anything but intuitive. To me it appears that Motorola didn't do any sort of useage research and just slapped everything together.
Beyond the inconvenience of poor menus, buttons, and navigation both phones have been completely unreliable. Almost immediately both phones were prone to dropping calls while the screen turned black. The phone I use daily has a backlight that flickers and my wife's jams almost daily.
Although not a necessity, games on phones is something I really enjoy. When stuck in a line, or waiting endlessly for an appointment nothing passes time better than a simple puzzle on my phone. Now my wife and I got burned earlier last year with a phone that let you play the games for a month and then the service provider took them away (we have a little animosity toward the future of phone gaming). My wife and I don't need really cool games or anything. Just a simple puzzle will do. Nokia has some really good, simple, free games on their phones. So again, I was extremely disappointed when the T721 only came with two games, both demo versions with extremely limited playability, not to mention the fact that they are terrible games. Of course if I want more games I can pay for them. Which brings me to my final point.
Sure I got my phone for free, but it is sold for nearly $300! For $300 I expect a quality phone jam-packed with features. Even the ring-tones for the Motorola T721 are lame.
My recommendation to you would be to look elsewhere. Maybe Nokia, I don't know. But stay away from the Motorola T721.
37 Motorola T721 - nice, classy phone; underrated by users
*****
The Motorola T721 is the much-improved version of the T720, which was plagued by flaws not expected in a Motorola phone... For the most part, I think the T721 is a major success and a great, classy phone. If we are getting down to brass tacks -
THE GOOD:
A) FORM and FUNCTION: The T721 is not a style-over-substance phone, but rather a very nice combination of both. The design exudes class, and belies a bevy of functions that the phone boasts. The phone gets nice reception as one would expect from a motorola, and any reception problems that i have had are tied to my cell service, not the phone...
B) MENU is AOK: while some users have complained about the menu, it is actually one of the easiest I've ever used and also quite intuitive once you get the hang of it. Simple and classic icons are nice, and you can just "shortcut" to all your needed stuff.
C) SCREEN: the color screen is big and brilliant, and you can adjust the icons, screensaver, background, etc. easily.
D) GAMES, RINGTONES, etc: downloading games and cool ringtones is a breeze, and fun to boot.
E) EXTERNAL SCREEN: the external screen on this flip phone is large and includes date, time, caller ID, signal strength and battery meter. what else do you need??!!
THE SOMEWHAT BAD:
A) SOUNDS: I think the sounds on the polyphonic speaker could be a bit better - but its not a big deal.
B) WEIGHT: while the T721 is somewhat light due to its plastic case, it is not nearly as fragile as some have said. and in any case, this is a phone that has: 1) tons of carrying cases to protect it that are even nicer than the original covers; and 2) the ability to easily replace damaged covers or battery doors.
C) BATTERY LIFE: battery life could be better, but i'm probably sucking the energy out of it by playing games and downloading stuff.
D) NO SPEAKERPHONE: There is no internal speakerphone, but you can buy an attachment.
E) NO CAMERA: I heard that the camera attachment for the T720 wasn't any good anyways, and it just takes up memory.
****CONCLUSION:
Overall, I would rate this phone as Above Average/Very Good. If you are someone who tends to drop your phone alot or who has no desire to spend a few minutes learning the motorola menu layout then maybe you should consider other options... But if you are someone just looking for a classy phone with nice features at a solid price, then the T721 won't disappoint.
38 Dislikes
I mostly agree with what has been said above. There are some things which i don't like about this phone.
1) Battery life. It would last a week for me (and that's with only one call a day).
2) Ringer loudness. I work in a noisy enviroment, and with my t721, i could not hear the ringer (even when it was set to the maximum).
3) Durability. The screen has cracked on my phone, and just from having it on my belt.
If you don't care about these things, the t721 is a great phone for you.
39 A dependable phone with amazing features
Some of these people's reviews are true at some points, thats why I've given this phone 4 stars instead of 5. This phone is more fragile than the typical cell phone, if you need a phone that you're going to take to parties or to school if you're a student like me you should go for the Motorola V60i. However, this phone's advantages far outweigh its disadvantages. The color scrent on the T721 is larger and more defined than any other phone you could buy for this amount of money. It's downloadable games and ringtones are amazing. But the best thing about the phone is that it simply LOOKS COOL. The phone is a great conversation starter and really impresses people. The menu is something you can easily get used to after your first few calls. Another cool thing about this phone is its numerous interchangable covers so you can further customize your Motorola T721. This is a great phone and a terrific buy for this amount of money.
40 Excellent phone
I bought this phoen at my local radio shack for 45 dollars, 100 after the activations and stuff. I was suprised to find such a cheap flip phone with a color screen. Its got many features such as voice activated dialing, color screen, games, 500 number phone book, and even, get this, a voice recorder.
I reccomend anyone who doesn't need a camera phone, but likes flip phones with color screens, buy one.
41 Motorola T721
I bought this phone using Verizon's service last January. As a late Christmas gift for myself. I have to admit. I loved it. The first 3 weeks I had it. Then it became the biggest pain. It stopped functioning properly. The screen constantly froze up. The buttons continuously kept freezing. And if you have nail, (any ladies out there) then forget about this phone. If you hit the hot keys at the top of the key pad, especially the top right one, then you are defiantly going to hit the tiny button, canceling out the screen. It gets so annoying when your putting a number into your phone and instead of finishing it up, you cancel the entire thing out.
I'm just saying, this is one of Motorola's worst products. The only good thing about it, is the reception it can clearly get. That's why I gave it 2 stars unstead of the 1 star it deserved.
42 Underperformer to say the least
Upgraded to the T721 per AT&T recommendation that it would be the best thing on the market. So far I've had to return three of them because of these problems:
1. Randomly Turns itself off
2. Constant static/computer attenuation noise in background
3. Randomly disconnects calls
4. Sometimes it will not respond to the power off button (AT&T recommended changing the battery, that was my fourth return in the six months of ownership.
All in all, I would recommend that anyone wishing to buy this phone had just as soon go and buy a "little princess phone" by mattel because you will probably get as much actual phone conversation time with either.
43 Adequate phone
I've had this phone for three months, directly from an ATT Wireless store. At the time I had to pay $50 with instant rebate, whereas Amazon I think had it for $50 after mail in rebate. I bought it because it was a decent flip phone with a color screen, and I did not feel like paying $100 and over for a similar phone with better features. Since those same phones are much cheaper now, if I were to do it all over again right now I would spring for a better phone rather than settling for this.
Pros:
-Construction feels solid enough to me, I have no worries that any buttons, antenna, faceplate, whatever will break from normal use. I've dropped it once (to my dismay), and the front face has a couple scratches on it.
-Screen is large.
-Phone is long when opened. I don't like the idea of talking on a phone when it barely extends past my ear, like it's some children's toy. When folded it is thinner than some phones, but slightly thicker than others, but it is at least small enough to fit into that little third pocket in my jeans. Convenient!
-Buttons depress nicely. I don't have to wonder if I pressed it hard enough for it to register.
-GSM features are nice if you use them. I don't really use them, but ATT has a horrible selection of TDMA phones, if that's your thing. (Hint: ATT doesn't really have a good selection of cell phones in general. Way to go, ATT.)
-Voice dialing comes in handy Though I did drop it once, most of these problems did not occur any time near the fall. The phone just has problems. Get a different phone. Try not to use ATT.
44 Nice phone, poor service coverage
This is a really neat little phone. But there are several drawbacks. First, to use some of the additional capabilities you end up paying a fortune in extra charges. Second, unless you are driving down the interstate or in a major city, you can forget about being able to use the phone--and getting an accurate coverage map for service is nearly impossible. All in all, I wish I had stayed with Sprint.
45 A Step Up
I'm a pretty frugal guy but when I saw this phone I knew it was time to upgrade from my V60. The graphics are excellent. The larger screen allows you to see up to 9 lines of text and the much smaller antenna means you can put it in your pocket and actually forget that you put it there.
One of the previous reviewers mentioned that the menus aren't great. I have to agree with that, but the features are there. I have to disagree with the quality aspect, though. The T721's plastic may be lighter than the metal of the V60, but I haven't had a single problem with it and it looks like the antenna will last a lot longer.
The downloadable games are pretty good too! (I recommend Dungeon Capers) So if you don't want to spend a lot of money but want a phone with good graphics and good general features this phone is for you.
46 OK PHONE, HORRIBLE SERVICE (AT&T)
Pros: I'd say there are only a few good things to say about this phone. It is small and lightweight, voice dialing, which is nice, and a large color display with good image quality. That's about all. Surprisingly, the previous model, the T720 (Verizon) performed much better than this phone.
Cons: There are too many cons for me to list, but there are some major ones you should know if you are planning on buying this phone. When I saw the AT&T monthly plans for this phone I was amazed. I got 750 nationwide minutes a month for the price of other carriers 400 local minutes plan. Later I found out that all those minutes won't do much good if I can't use them. AT&T service is worse than you can possibly imagine. Not only that, but this phone doesn't have the best reception anyway. One time I was with about 5 people who all had cell phones from different providers. In the same spot that they had signal strengths of 4 and 5 I had absolutely no signal. If I was lucky I might get "Emergency Only" or a 1 at best. I'm so sick of this service I'm willing to pay $175 to cancel this and another $100-200 to buy a new Verizon phone. What ever you do, DON'T BUY THIS PHONE, or any AT&T wireless phone. AT&T offers incredibly low-priced plans and phones, but it's all just a gimmick. This phone has some cons also. I don't like that it has only 300k of application memory, 1-2MB would be better. The polyphonic ring quality is bad compared to similarly-priced phones. Not only that, but the ring is very soft, even on loudest volume. If I'm anyplace where there's even a little bit of noise, it takes me a while to realize its ringing. This phone, for its price, should have more features, such as a camera, Bluetooth, etc. My final conclusion, just don't bother with this phone or AT&T, I'd suggest pay a little bit more and get the LG VX6000 with Verizon, especially if you live in the Tri-State area. You can not imagine how horrible this phone is until it's too late.
47 Not the best, but definitely not the worst.
I had a chance to try out the Motorola T731 and compared it to the T721. Besides a different, extendable antenna, there is no difference outside the fact that the T731 was made to function on a CDMA network, while the T721 (and 720 respectively) is for a GSM network. This phone is a mixed bag, but is reliable enough to recommend to the casual cell phone user who favors a few nice frills. Read on...
Pros:
1) Sound Quality. Motorola phones are first and foremost the best in sound quality, and while the earpiece could be louder, the voices come across crystal clear and with only a minimal amount of static. I have heard others complain about the sound quality, but I found it to be stellar.
2) The "Flash" factor. This phone has enough features to make it flashy, and a nice conversation stimulator. The color screen is nice, with some cute animation. The polyphonic ring tones are also above decent, and loud enough for most people. The color screen itself is actually better than the average, since it is easily viewable in daylight, a problem that has plagued other color-screen phones.
3) Minimal creaking. The problem with the Motorola v60 series is that the flip piece would wiggle and creak a lot. While not the biggest of problems, it is annoying nonetheless. The T721/731 does not creak or wiggle, unless an insane amount of pressure is put on it.
4) Tactile buttons. The buttons have a satisfying click to them when pressed, which is a big improvement over other phones out there with flush keypads. The backlight also illuminates all the keys brightly and evenly, so using the keys in the dark is easily and comfortable.
5) Value. The T721/731 was clearly made for the budget-conscious shopper. Most color-screen phones will set you back a pretty amount, while this one is very affordable indeed. For the frills and perks, this phone is a great value.
Cons:
1) Horrible menus. The first thing you will notice when using this phone is that the menu system is ridiculously hard to learn. The 4-way directional keys make accessing submenus easy, but since the menu layout is so confusing, it is hard to get to the right menu fast. You will get used to this, but it is a sharp learning curve.
2) Weak vibrate. If you wear a thick coat or keep the phone in your bag, do not expect to feel the phone is you have it set to the vibrate function. This is the most annoying thing for me, since I do not like to use a belt-holster or a leather case, so I must keep it in my jacket pocket or my knapsack. I thought the vibe on my Samsung A540 was weak, but this one is much weaker.
3) Poor battery life. Mobile phones never achieve the battery life that the manual claims, but the T721/731 is well below par. The color screen, backlight, and all the functions (including the backlit external LCD) drain the battery faster than is acceptable. It lasted 2 days on standby for me, but that's with moderate usage.
4) Feels cheap. Despite the solid build quality that ensures minimal creaking, the phone is light and made of plastic, so it feels cheap and you will likely question the durability over the long term. One advantage of the v60 series is the fact that it is solid, built like a rock, and was obviously made with durability in mind. Holding the T721/731 didn't make me confident that it could withstand the usual wear and tear that most cell phones go through.
The benefits and weaknesses are equally compelling, so this phone will suit some people very well, while others would be less than pleased with it. For me, it is a decent phone, but I have other preferences. For people looking for flash without spending the cash, this is the right choice. People who favor a more functional and practical phone, this may not be the best choice.
48 Bad Reception
The phone is alright and has a nice color screen. I live in a major metropolitan area and my service gets dropped all the time on the freeway or just around town. Good luck getting this phone to work inside any decent sized building either. I had a cheap Nokia that had way better reception than this one...
