Compatible with AT&T service, the quad-band Motorola V600 cell phone features Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated VGA digital camera, and MMS with video clip playback. You'll also get "Situational Lights"--a feature that lets you light colors for various types of calls--and much more, all displayed on a large, high-resolution 176 x 220 pixel, 65,000 color interior screen.
The basic Motorola clamshell format continues to provide a solid and attractive option for any dedicated cell phone user. Its steel frame is compact and attractive, (the faceplate-changing capabilities seem a bit unnecessary) and it's loaded with all the essential features you'll need for power usage plus a few bonuses. You may find the volume a bit high out of the box, and it goes into hibernate almost as fast as you can dial a number, but these are minor, adjustable quibbles on a truly stellar phone.
Calling Features
| | |
| See a detailed view of the phone's features, front and back. |
Uploaded Uploaded Used simply as a cell phone, the V600 features a 4-way scroll key with multiple dedicated function keys for easy menu navigation. Primary calling features include voice dialing, integrated speakerphone, vibrate mode, call timers, redial, missed call indicator, call log, any-key answer, auto-answer, auto-redial, roaming indicator, speed dial, linked (credit card) dialing, phonebook look-up, phonebook scroll, mute control, no-answer transfer, one-touch 911, system select, usage alert, and a phone book of up to 1250 entries, including picture caller ID functionality. When the phone is closed, its external screen (two lines, 96 x 32 pixels) displays caller ID, date, time, and various status icons, including text message waiting, voice message waiting, battery and signal strength, and voice and message mail. There's even a blue backlight for nighttime viewing.
The V600 sports well-placed, well-machined keys, and its compact size does nothing to hinder dialing even for large-fingered users. The solid scroll keys bring you to very intuitive menus presented nicely on a single screen, marked by functional but showier-than-necessary graphics. There are also dedicated external buttons for speaker volume, voice recording, and ring volume.
Messaging and Internet
The advanced MMS capabilities built in to the V600 enable users to send, edit, forward, and receive image, text, audio, and video messages over the wireless Internet, to and from compatible phones or PCs. (Messages can run up to 100k in size.) You'll also get instant messaging capability, messaging templates, SMS two-way messaging, conventional email, and predictive text assistance. Beyond messaging, the V600's Internet connectivity lets you access online services such as stock quotes, road directions, airline information, entertainment, and more. You can also download Java applications (version CLDC 1.0, MIDP 2.0, 100k per application limit) for which the phone provides 5 MB total (shared) memory. High-speed data transfer and download round out the package. The V600 supports digital TTY/TDD functionality for the hearing impaired.
Organizer
Organizer features include a calendar, calculator with currency converter, date book with event storage, and voice memo. You can also transfer this data to your PC wirelessly via the phone's Bluetooth capability.
We found the V600's appointment scheduling to be right in line with our fairly basic needs. Other than the universal annoyance of pecking out appointment details with the ten-key letter system (there's no QWERTY keyboard here as you'll find on some of the more recent, albeit early-adopter phones) this phone's organizer features provided enough data entry space for any busy person taking these functions seriously, but no more.
Fun and Games
For fun, the V600 sports a built-in 640 x 480 pixel integrated digital camera with zoom and brightness adjustment functions. Pictures taken with the camera can be stored in the phone or sent to others via multimedia messaging. The 5 MB of memory available for storing pictures is also shared with whatever wallpapers, screensavers, ring tones, Java applications, or games you may download from the Internet. The V600 also features 24 chord ring tone capability. Users can assign different tones for different callers in the V600's phonebook, and assign separate tones to denote incoming messages, faxes, and reminders. Wireless multiplayer gaming capabilities and two included games, "Bejeweled" and "Stuntman", round out the entertainment perks with this phone.
Conclusions
We liked this phone's very basic camera. It was easy to use and worry-free (nothing's going to break off), and the device can be accessed instantly from the phone's top level screen menu. From power on, it only took us a moment to take and save a fairly nice picture. However, photo quality is only adequate; about as good as you'd expect for a cell phone circa 2004, as opposed to a dedicated digital camera. We also found the ring tones included with the phone to be generally pleasant, and it was a breeze to assign a custom tone to a number in the phonebook, thanks again to the easy menu system. The included games were basic and fairly fun (at least once). In "Stuntman", the phone's vibrate mode provided road rumble as a little car skidded around a bland, full-color stunt course. But player beware! Once the game starts, the volume goes LOUD and is not apparently adjustable. Finally, there is a nutty little feature called Motomixer, which lets you modify various settings on lit! tle songs that you can download, emulating a very rudimentary, miniature studio console.
In all, we found the Motorola V600 to be a rock solid, highly effective cell phone, with attractive and efficient graphic and audio capabilities. We recommend the V600 without reservations for any serious user.
Vital Statistics
The Motorola V600's security features include call restrictions, phone lock, and new password capability. The phone weighs 4.4 ounces and measures 3.46 x 1.85 x 91.0 inches. Its Lithium Ion batteries are rated at up to 450 minutes talk time, and up to 240 hours standby time. It runs on GSM 800/900/1800/1900 mode. In the box, you'll receive the V600, instruction manuals, a high capacity 750 mAh Li-Ion battery, a headset/earbud, and a battery charger
1 Totally Junk
I bought this phone 6 months back. It got great features, looks good except wait. First 2 months worked well. After that some times outside display not working properly, I continue using it like that for next 2 months, then called customer service. They promptly replaced it with reconditioned phone. The new phone not working from day 1, other side people can listen to me but i can't listen to them. Replaced it with another phone, that worked for a week or so, and after that it is not even turning on. I walked in to the Cingular store and they told me they can't do any thing as it is AT&T phone. And they advised me not to get V600 phone again as it is giving lot of problems to other people too. Now I am waiting for my next phone.
NEVER ever buy this guy.
2 Great Features, Great Phone!
I'm really surprised by all of the negative feedback being left for this phone. The Motorola v600 has a TON of features which I won't bother listing -- but most importantly, it has Bluetooth! When combined with the HS-810 Bluetooth headset, the v600 is a dream come true! Bluetooth also allows me to sync up my phone book with my Outlook! It's lightweight and compact, and has external buttons for changing ring styles, recording voice notes, and the like. I live in the Philadelphia area, and have no problems with dropped calls or signal strength. I also travel quite a bit throughout Europe, and the v600 has found a signal on a network even on the side of a mountain in Poland. I hate to say it, but after reading most of the prior reviews, it seems like "user error" is mostly responsible for the problems listed. For example, the gentleman who said that he hates the mMode button being on the upper right -- you can configure the functions for these buttons in "Personalize" under "Settings"! Lastly, the v600 is great for hacking. I loaded the UK-spec v620 Flex onto my phone, and it's been nothing but great. (This Flex even features a built-in email client, so I can send and receive email right on the handset!) I've also run the AT&T OOB Flex, and a private Motorola Engineering Flex, and none have failed me! In conclusion, the v600 is a great phone for the cost, with almost every feature imaginable. This is the phone you want!
3 Motorola-Disasterola
I am warning all potential buyers that this phone is over-hyped and extremely disappointing. I hate this phone. I bought it 9 months ago and have had nothing but troubles. I needed a GSM for my travels, and this was one of the only ones on the USA market at the time. Thus far, I have returned by mail it five times! The signal is poor, no matter where you are; the camera has broken down on every one that I have had through the warranty. And dropped calls? This phone specializes in these. DO NOT BUY THIS DISASTER. This is the most expensive phone I have ever had and a complete nightmare. I hate that Motorola will not reimburse me or upgrade this awful product.
4 DREADFUL PHONE!!!
When I purchased this phone 6 months ago, I thought I was going to get one of the best phones on the market. I WAS TOTALLY WRONG! It has great features, but half the time they don't work properly. My biggest complaint about this phone is that the earpiece volume is EXTREMELY TOO LOW! Forget about using it if there's more than 2 people in the room. I sent this phone back to Motorolla THREE TIMES!!!! THose complaints in the review section are definetly true. Don't make the same mistake I made. DO Not buy this phone even if you can get it for $20. It's not worth it.
5 I have same problems as others
Felt compelled to chime in with my experience also to save someone else the pain of owning this phone.
I work in a single story building with lots of windows. No signal. Same for my house. Both in urban areas where everyone else has coverage.
Lots of dropped calls. It takes about 60 seconds for the phone to "realize" the call has been dropped. Otherwise I have to cycle the power, which takes about that much time anyway.
This phone sucks.
6 Disappointed
I bought this phone a few months back. For some reason, the signal is really bad. First, I thought it is because I was in the place that have no signal. Then, I found out that my friend who uses Nokia have all the signals I 've ever dreamed of. She and I use AT&T GSM...So the only reason I can come up with is that the phone does not work right. Moreoever, it has been acting weird lately. Sometime it turned off by itself and took at least 5 mins to turn on again especially when I really needed to use it. I thought that the flip phone was cool....but now I can't wait to use Nokia again!
7 Poorly designed and low quality
Dropped calls are frequent, after 3 months, the screen was dead and i got a refurbished one from At&T under the warranty-exchange program. The second one hang a lot and sometimes have to be restarted after a drop call. Side buttons that change the mode of the phone doesnt are annoying. Also, there's no way to lock the browser function so once in a while, i might mispress that button and the stupid At&T will charge me for using their internet service even though it's obvious that only a couple thousand bytes get through. Wont recommend this phone at all, can wait to get a new Nokia, they have better functionality and quality though might not look as cool
8 2 fatal flaws, otherwise good phone
the v600 is a classic moto clamshell phone, with very nice keypad, and a solid feel. it is a bit heavy and not small but for me the larger size and metal casing are a pluss. it is similar to the old Nextel i95cl.
however, unlike that by now almost 5 year old phone the v600 has 2 killer problems:
1) it is incredibly slow when scrolling through the contact list (i.e. phone number list). my list is only abot 20 entries long but the phone just can only scroll through 3 entries at a time, then it has to "reload" and that takes allot of time. how this huge step backward in the probably most frequently used aspect of the phone could happen is amazing.
2) to write an sms one has to go through several menu items. then once a sms is started you cannot leave the sms screen or you will loose the message. you compose a message get a call or want to look something else up in the phone and the message is gone. nokia has handled this so much better for years now.
9 Very disappointing phone
After a fantastic experience with my trusty old V60, I was eagerly anticipating the release of the V600. Once it became available, my anticipation soon turned to disappointment.
The phone's software was the most obvious culprit. Where the V60 was rock-solid and quick, the V600 felt sluggish. There would be lag when certain functions were requested. Also, the phone would lock up in strange ways -- for example, when I would drop a call the phone would not actually disconnect, nor would it let me hang up manually. Instead, I had to powercycle the phone.
The radio did not seem to be very reliable either -- there would be horrible fluctuations in the strength of the signal, sometimes dropping from 4 or 5 bars to 0 for no good reason for a split second, just long enough to drop the call and hang the phone, all while the phone was just lying there on my desk.
What was also annoying were the buttons on the left side of the phone to change the mode the phone was in -- ring, vibrate, silent, etc. When the phone was in my pocket that button would constantly be getting pressed, often changing the setting and emitting an annoying "blip" sound.
Finally, the speakerphone was lousy, and the crippled bluetooth profile was disappointing. Overall, I'm very unhappy with this phone, and I'm glad it met an untimely end drowning in my dog's waterbowl so that I had an excuse to get the Nokia 6230, which is a vast improvement. I'm probably never going to own a Motorola phone again.
10 Great but for a lower price.
i bought this phone when it had first come out for $400 from ATT. The phone looks great(metal body makes it feel, and act strong. if you drop it it will survive.) The phone has a mess load of great features that you can read about from other users, take note, if you want this phone, the volume (on high) is extremely low. while in a small crowd with just some talking theres no way you could hear the person on the other end. When you first buy phone, antenna may be kind of sharp in your pocket. it left a nasty red mark on my leg. my last complaint is that the phone tends to move slowly between menus and when trying to save a picture.
this is a great phone with a few minor faults, i recommend to anyone looking for a fun, but buisness oriented phone.
11 Everything I need
It has everything on it that I need. I have no problem hearing on it or other people hearing me, like some of the comments in other reviews. I bought mine refurbished (but I couldn'y tell it wasn't brand new) and got it free from AT&T, and because it was refurbished, any issues that came up after the V600's initial release were resolved during the refurbishing process. This is an excellent phone.
12 Just Say No!!!!
I originally purchased this phone in August, I had to get it replaced 2x since then because of various issues, which include, however, not limited to: Calls not terminating when hanging up, corrupt external/internal display. I am on my 3rd one and now I am unable to successfully make a call 95% of the time (it tells me to retry) even on my preprogrammed numbers. It is extremely disappointing because the features of the phone are great, however, it is just not a dependable phone. I had a nokia prior to this phone and didnt have any problems. As much as I like the look and feel, its not worth the trouble. No more Motorolas for me. Be afraid folks, be very afraid!!!
13 Excellent features, poor construction
The phone is everyhting you could ask for. However, if you're like me and prefer flip-phones to all the Nokia-style "accidentally-dial-someone" phones you WON'T appreciate the hardware on the V600. When the phone is flipped closed, the spring stays loose and won't shut all the way. It leaves about 1/16-1/8 of an inch of space if you hold the phone upside down. This gets VERY annoying when going to pick-up your phone and it answers because it opens-up slightly.
The "quick-fix" is to disable the active flip, so that it won't answer the call upon flipping open the phone. It still can be very frustrating because sometimes the LCD goes berzerk and flashes on and off, not knowing what to do.
I used to have a Samsung phone and their contruction is much much much better. Their phones stay closed no matter what.
I'm curious if the new Motorola RAZR will have this problem...
14 Phone is cool, OS is buggy
I bought this phone a few weeks ago, and really love the technology. Warning though, the OS is buggy. Big lag is the updating of the screen. one example of this causing problems is that you must leave the open answer on, since the screen does not update for about three rings, so tough to answer without the autoanswer on.
I had another problem with it and TMobile told me to master reset it. Now i cannot edit my phone book, so i cannot add more numbers.
I have a request into Motorola about the first issue, to see if there is an update, and it has been three days. Motorola says they will answer in 24 hours. Not sure where this is going to go, but it seems the other peoples warnings are legit.
15 I like this phone but was not happy with customer service
This is my new toy!! So far, I've been using for 3 months. I love my MP3 ring tone and also enjoy taking pictures while I'm driving or walking outside. One thing, I don't like the "m-mode" botton to be placed on the top-right. I keep pressing the bottom by mistake and provider charges per certain bytes.
It was really pain to contact AT&T customer service... First, I applied 1-year contract via AT&T website, then bought this phone through Amazon and added 2nd line. I had to call for a couple times and had to wait for a long time. You will need to be patient. Anyway, I got a second phone line and 20 days later, I received a letter from AT&T saying that I have not signed back 2-year contract yet. It was just about the time when 30 day trial was ended and could not even cancelled. I was upset because the customer service never mentioned about 2-year contract over the phone when I requested for 2nd line. I called AT&T back again unfortunately. Well, they eventually changed my contract to 1-year with limited service but then, I had to wait for 15 minutes to talk to customer service. Now, everything is okay and I am sort of happy with AT&T. No complain about billing or service. I am just hoping that I don't need to call them anytime soon!
16 This phone sucks, which is why it is being pulled out
Well, I bought this phone in August, and I first loved it. Then I noticed that my phone would constantly "freeze," and when I pressed the buttons the phone wouldn't actually like do anything for a few seconds. Then, I dropped the phone once (the metal cover is so annoying, it is slippery and scractches easily), and the phone just went dead. Now, I need to get a new phone (the v505 which I heard is better). However, considering that the V600 is being pulled off the market, there must be poroblems with this stupid phone. If you are looking to buy a phone, buy the V505, NOT THIS ONE.
17 Not even worth it at $50
I turned in my Treo for this phone. What a mistake. The connectivity is horrible and I get dropped constantly wherever I go in the US. Last week my friend got a free Samsung that is four times the phone this one is. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.
18 Warning! Motorola has discontinued this phone.
Originally, I was searching for this Motorola V600 cellular phone as a replacement for my V505, when I was disappointed to find that Motorola has discontinued the V600. Not only are they no longer going to support the phone, the number of features, like downloads of music and games, will be reduced, but this also means the phone was a flop for a reason. A number of Motorola employees told me that this was because the phone was "problematic," prone to dropping calls randomly, having awful signal strength and audio quality, and constantly needing to be sent back to Motorola for various defects in the manufacturing process. A warning to all--Don't come near this phone with a ten foot pole. I absolutely love Motorola and they have a number of fantastic phones, but the V600 is not one of them.
19 Good Phone with Bluetooth
I guess it is a very good phone with a pretty nice interface and features. I can sync up my computer address book with the phone and vice-a-versa.
Also, the screen and the user interface is awesome. Although, I am with AT&T the signal breaks sometimes. But, overall it is a good phone with nice features,
Regards,
Balaji .T
20 Incredible features at a great price
I just got the V600 a couple days ago (not from Amazon, but with AT&T as my provider) and I've been very satisfied. As a technology geek, a number of features appeal to me - Bluetooth, MP3 ringtones, custom wallpaper, and a digital camera. Bluetooth took me a while to setup, but once I fixed the problems (not Motorola's fault), it worked beautifully. I could upload pictures, MP3s, and pictures onto my phone. The quality of the camera surprised me; it's far better than "webcam quality" and quite impressive for such a small lens. And for those who have been complaining about the bulkiness of the menu, please READ the manual. Almost everything in the GUI is customizable, and I have been able to access my most commonly used features within 2 button clicks. There are a few problems I wish could be adjusted, such as the short 10 call history memory, but this is a far improvement over my old LG VX10. For $50, I would heartily recommend it.
21 Good phone, bad provider
First, the phone: This is my fourth Motorola phone, and I have always been very happy with them. The problem with the V600 is the side buttons. I like the clamshell design because it keep buttons from accidentally being pressed, but when I have the V600 in my pocket, the side buttons get activated all the time, recording empty voice messages and changing the ring mode. My v60 had smaller, stiffer side buttons and it wasn't a problem. Other than that, I'm very happy with the phone. The hardware and software quality is excellent.
Now, AT&T Wireless: I switched to AT&T Wireless because Cingular wanted to charge me almost $250 more for this phone because I wasn't a new customer, even though my service contract had expired. (For new customers, the price was the same as AT&T) Because Cingular was purchasing AT&T Wireless, and both use the same towers in my area, I didn't think there would be much of a difference. When I first received my phone, the automatic voicemail setup message failed, so I needed to set it up manually. The voicemail numbers aren't available on AT&T's website, so I had to call and speak to a CS rep. I called three times and never waited LESS than 45 minutes to talk to someone. The longest I waited to speak to someone was 105 minutes. (Their voicemail message did keep telling me the wait could be longer than 20 minutes). The call center staff, however, were friendly and able to resolve the issue. I recently took my phone to Europe, and while it worked fine for placing calls, I could not retrieve voicemail nor would unanswered incoming called go to voicemail. This was never a problem with Cingular. The most annoying factor with AT&T however, is the rate of dropped calls. Even with a very good signal- 3 or 4 bars- my calls drop regularly. About 25% of my calls go dead, even though I'm stationary and have a good signal. I've heard Cingular and AT&T use the same towers here, but I never had dropped calls with Cingular unless the signal dropped to zero.
22 I bought it...why wouldn't I give it 5 stars?
(...). ALL wireless carriers have many many areas across the U.S. that a signal is hard to get. I live in Detroit and have a GREAT signal. Just because you live in a soft signal spot, stop cutting down your carrier. If you don't like it, move or get a new carrier. Now, about this phone....its great. Pretty simple to pick up and figure out without looking through a 250 page manual. Battery life seems to be quite good. Ring tones are pretty lame...be ready to download new ones. The phone is well made and solid. The camera takes pretty good pictures but if you bought a phone to take pictures that you really care about, you will be disappointed (with this or ANY phone). Bluetooth is really cool...a bit impractical...but cool. (...). All in all, I think its a great package. (...)
23 Motorola V600 = good phone
I love the look of the new Motorola V600.I love that it is user friendly and easy to program. It takes awsome pictures and it is able to play clear video clips. It is loaded with many ringtones and the rest of the features that come with it are awsome. Phone conversations are heard much more clear than on my old phone.
The only thing I wish I can change about my phone is the right mMode soft key. I tend to press it by accident sometimes and it can be quite an inconvenience.
Overall it is a great phone and I would recomend it to anyone who is looking to buy a new phone.
24 Good Reception with lots of Great Options
As long as I'm not inside a brick building, the reception is good. (...) The camera works well. You can zoom in, play with the brightness, and setting up your new picture as your wallpaper or sending it to someone is easy.
The phone is listed with a talk time of up to 450 min which is pretty much on the mark in my experience. A nice surprise was that the clock resets itself to the local time.
If you like being hands free, I highly recommend buying a different headset. I'm constantly repeating myself.
(...) To fix it, the suggestion in the AT&T forum is to power down, remove the battery and SIM card, reinstall the battery, and power on. Then power down again, remove the battery, reinstall the SIM card and battery, and power back on. If that doesn't work, hopefully your phone is still covered by the 1-year warranty.
25 Out of range. Stop the music
In terms of overall quality, feel, and look, the Motorola v600 is a solid and well-made product. I won't go into all the technical pros and cons that are already listed on this page and which, for the most part, work as described.
But there is one exception: some advertisements for this phone list that it has an MP3 player included and it does not (it can play MP3 ring tones only).
More annoyingly for me, it also has a tone that alerts a user when the phone goes into and out of a coverage area, a tone that as far as I can tell cannot be disabled or turned down, even if the ringer volume is on silent. This makes for a bothersome symphony of beeps in any situation where the reception comes and goes, such as on a train passing through tunnels and rural areas or in steel or stone buildings where coverage can occasionally be blocked. Unfortunately, I live in such a building and unless I keep it near a window I risk being kept awake at night by the alert tone telling me that at 3 a.m. the phone has found and then lost a signal.
26 Good Look, Poor Quality Finish
I am now on my second V600, on hold with ATT and Motorola trying to figure out why the finish on inside of the phone, where the numbers are keeps wearing off after about one month of use. I have never dropped or damaged the phone in any way, just from my regular use....which is not the much...the finish on the inside continues to wear/flake off. For the money of this phone I would expect to have a higher quality!!!
I would wait and buy the v620, or v505, or better yet get the V80 out of Europe.
27 Alright Phone
I bought this phone the first day it came out, Upgraded from a Nokia 3595, I had HIGH expectations for this phone. The Camera is decent (Kinda Pixelated) The valume is kinda sucky, on max i can bearly hear the person on the otherline. If you use a headset, its inproves it a bit. Also, the speaker option also improves this. The bluetooth is nice, Although, i dont use it much. The MP3 sound qaulity is good. I was able to have 375 Text Messages saved (Dont ask) in my memory before i got the "Memory Low - Delete some messages" message. The battery isint that good, When i am really sleepy and forget to put it on charger, It only lasts me about a good 30-60 minutes before it dies out.
Overall Rating : 3.6/5.0
28 Calls drop constantly!
Calls drop on average every 10 - 15 minutes. I've had this happen on business conference calls, interviews, and personal calls. And it doesn't leave a good impression. This happens even though I have a 4/5 or 5/5 signal strength. It also has happened with the orginal and replacement phones, both brand-spanking-new. I don't believe this is an issue with AT&T GSM, as reviews for this phone with other carriers have stated the same problem. Stay away from the V600!
29 Excellent Phone
Motorola V600 has all the features needed and works well. The AT&T service has improved significantly in the past year. I had AT&T GSM service a year ago and it would work only in some areas, now the service continues and at times Cingular Wireless shows up but the phone continues to work.
The phone has good ring tones, bluetooth capability (not tested as yet), excellent speakerphone and great display. I took some pictures and they come out well (4X zoom). The only missing piece is synchronization software to load contacts and schedules from PC. (Though available through additional purchase). Overall phone is excellent...
30 Nice Phone, Has Some Flaws But Look for v620 to Clear Them
I have had this phone for quite some time now under the AT&T service. It is a very decent quad band phone from Motorola. The reception is good in my area (SF Bay Area) where it cycles between 850 mhz and 1900 mhz. I have had some software problems including freezing and shutting off (even after replacing the battery). After a while for whatever reason things seem to have settled down. Look for the v620 (its successor) to come out later this year and possibly be an even better model. The phone is relatively durable thanks to the metal housings, if only Motorola would make the center plastic bezel replaceable too since that scratches very easily. Battery life is ok. Pretty good for Motorola, very poor if comparing it to a Nokia. Internet access thru mMode is normally slow since this phone is not EDGE enabled or UMTS. Bluetooth use is a definite plus for me. I have a Motorola Bluetooth Headset and I like it very much. The so-called distance you can be away from your phone I have found to be a joke (33 feet), but otherwise within about 10-15 feet it works great. My phone syncs perfectly to my Dell Laptop using Motorola Mobile Phone Tools 2.0. Overall this is currently one of the best phones available from AT&T right now. The Nokia 6620 should be another choice to look at.
31 My buddy
V600 is a very likeable phone who does not bother you. It has a very cool camera with high resolution, and has a very user friendly interface. On the outside monitor, you can change the volume and style of the cell phone if you wish to. The games are not that great though, and the web browser is also not all that great. The ringtones sound great though, many of them are true polyphonic types. The numbers interface feels a bit rough though, but the design is very nice. The phone itself is nice and small, and the charge lasts for a good amount of time. However, the service seems to be "messed up" as this phone does not work in my dorm room.
Overall, great phone for a great price!
32 Go for Nokia
Well, this is the first time i tried out Motorola phone and it might be the last time. This phone is absolutely not for left-handed ppl like me. The end call button is on the left instead of the right side of the phone like other phones do. THe phonebook doesnt have as much functionality as one of those nokia phones. Besides, the design/style is pretty "old-fashion" and i guess Motorola has not been paying attention to improve the design of the phone for a while. After my contract is up, i'm definitely going to upgrade and get a Nokia phone again. Was using Nokia 3650 before this, it's kinda bulky but with nice display and easy to use function.
33 Great phone
I was looking for my first cellphone and decided to go with Motorola V600 because I like its look and design. The phone is stylish and compact; I could easily slip it into my pocket.
The phone reception is pretty good; it's pretty rare that I lost the signal. And battery lasts so long; I use it for couple days without having to charge it. Also, when I bought this phone, it already comes with the earphone.
It's quite costly for a phone, yet I bought it with activation and rebate so I only needed to pay about $50.
The body of the phone is, however, easy to get scratched. Also, I often accidentally press side buttons when I pick it up from my pocket and even when I talk on the phone. In addition, I can't remove mMode from the phone; it's feature to connect to Internet and I get charged by accidentally pressing it.
34 The Best Cellphone - Period!
After going through three t7221 phones (possibly the worst phone I have ever owned), I finally got a v600 through T-Mobile. I really love the way it looks and how it handles. It feels sturdy and the keypad is very well designed. The "bells and whistles" are nice (mp3 ringtones, high resolution screen), but this is my primary phone; the fact that it is well built is it's most important feature (I've always thought the v60 was the best phone ever; this is definitely it's sexier cousin).
T-Mobile, by the way, has proven to not only be a great carrier, but great at customer service. If you are looking for a great phone and plan, I would definitely suggest getting this through T-Mobile; their coverage (in the Philadelphia area) may not be the best, but they have the most reasonable plans (mine is 3000 anytime minutes for $59.95 a month) and, hands down, the best customer service.
35 Moto V600 and AT&T
I highly recommend this phone. I travel a great deal international/domestic and the phone worked as advertised (GSM) in New Zealand, Austalia, London, Canada, and Alaska. The only bad thing is the Motorola PhoneTools don't work on my laptop (and the drivers for it are not even MSWindows certified!). One cool feature that I discovered (that's not documented) is that my phone will automatically figure out the time zone (in the US only) and change the display. Pretty handy!
36 motorola v600 & att
i don't know what's up with all these reviews knocking at&t, is everybody scared of them? the v600 is a great phone more then you could ask for in alittle piece of equipment, and at&t has great service, just know what you are talking about before you call them, get your facts straight and they will be happy to take care of you. if you can't handle a problem don't buy a cell phone, with anybodys service, no company is perfect.
37 PC World's "Best Tech Products of the Year"
I bought 3 cell phones this month: a Nokia 6820 for me because I thought the pull-out keyboard feature would be great; a Nokia 3100 for my mother; and the Motorola V600 for John.
I programmed ALL the phones and the Motorola V600 was superior in EVERY WAY. (Also I noticed that it was the ONLY cell phone that PC World nominated in their "Best Tech Products of the Year.") I actually went through all the trouble of doing without a cell phone for 2 wks. (Amazon.com wasn't carrying them then) to exchange my Nokia 6820 for a Motorola V600.
One of the main deciding factors was the picture quality on the Nokia 6820 camera was HORRIBLE compared to the V600. (Of course NONE of them are perfect yet, but at least I could recognize the picture with the V600!) The pull-out keyboard on the Nokia 6820 that I thought would be so cool?? It was actually more difficult and awkward on the Nokia; the setup and use of the V600 was just so superior!!
There have been a few negative reviews that have complained about poor reception. When you have a connection problem with a phone, it is almost ALWAYS the carrier within the area you live or mountains, etc. I cannot recommend enough that you ask your co-workers,family,friends about AT&T in YOUR area. If they have a lot of problems with reception, chances are you will too - no matter HOW great the V600 is. (T-Mobile and Cingular also carry the V600.) I do have to say that ALL of the phones that I bought worked fine with AT&T though in my area.
Many times my AT & T Wireless Customer Service in the past hasn't been so great so I can relate to the negative reviews. But, lately the service has been much better, but it may be that luckily I just got better people. If you can record your conversation when you are setting service up - it would be in your favor. Also check out the AT &T service plans online and print them out and compare the services. Have the plan and its specific services with you when you call and keep a copy of the plan for later when you get the bill. One "trick" is that many of the free services and promotions that are listed in the plans will NOT automatically be given to you (free caller ID/free call-waiting/free call forwarding, etc.) UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLY ASK. Just always make sure that there is no charge with your particular plan.
Before I bought the three phones and chose the service plan, I really RESEARCHED them online. I wanted to read an amazon.com review as I just don't trust other reviews because most of them only print the "good" ones. At Amazon, I know that what I'm reading entails the actual experiences. If I had not bought the Motorola V600 phone for John, I never would have discovered it.
Yes, there IS a long instruction book with the phone, but there is also a QUICK start-up guide. The instruction book is arranged with an index so it is easy to find what you are looking for. The main thing was that I was able to UNDERSTAND the instruction book. It was VERY clear and just a breeze to set up. (I hate to admit it, but I had my previous cell phone for 3 yrs. and never DID really learn to use it! I only knew how to call out. I couldn't even use the phone book in it!) For those who find setting up the V600 difficult, well - some of the other phones are SO much worse!
Also -what is REALLY nice is that the Motorola has the lighted time displayed on the cover. Also, you can easily program it to flash when it rings as well. There are about 25 different rings so that is a lot of fun as well.
The other phones were small and felt awkward. I am left-handed and have had NO problem at all with this phone. And the Nokia 3100 is so difficult to turn on that my mother literally has has to use the end of a pencil to turn it on! (I couldn't exchange hers as she had used it too much.) But the V600, even though small, feels GREAT! Very comfortable. (And I've never really liked a "clam-type" phone before!)
This phone has all the bells and whistles, but with the V600 - you can actually FIND the bells and whistles. I just cannot say enough good things about this phone. I do recommend that you buy one of the leather cases for the V600 when you order the phone to help protect it though!
38 AT&T Wireless SUCKS
First of all, I couldn't find a board to post my review on AT&T wireless, so I had to choose to review some product. I'm giving 5 stars to it since I heard this is a great phone.
However, what I want to do today is to WARN YOU that AT&T WIRELESS SUCKS. Their customer service can provide wrong information and force you to pay more than you should.
Here is my story. I had a AT&T wireless phone, but for personal reasons I wanted to cancel it. It was 2 months before the contract would expire, so I confirmed with the CSR that I would have to pay the $175 cancelation fee, which is actually reasonable and under contract.
But, but, at this time he gave me wrong information. He suggested that I suspend the account for 2 months and cancel it afterwards. I was a little doubtful but, since this was the information directly from a CSR, I did as what he told me to do.
Then, 2 months later, I called in again. This time a different CSR said that time of suspension does not count in the contract. This means I must wait for another 2 months, and pay, before I can cancel the account. Unfortunately I don't have the conversation record with the first CSR due to a system crash, so I have no strong evidence to support myself.
It is all OK to me since I am not using the phone anyway, and it only costs < $100 for 2 months. However, I can't stand the fact that CSRs provide wrong information and mislead customers. AT&T has lost a customer forever, and I bet they will lose more once more people know about their bad customer service.
AT&T WIRELESS SUCKS, DON'T BUY AT&T WIRELESS
39 Slicker than Deer Guts on a Doorknob
Motorola finally re-enters the high-design arena with a very cool fliphone.
I got this phone and switched from an ancient Timeport/SprintPCS combination primarily for its international roaming capabilities. Wow, was I pleasantly overwhelmed! This little bugger packs more computing power than my PDA into a very neat little package.
Since form follows function, we will start with the basics. Where the signal is strong the phone is crystal clear in any listening mode (headset, bluetooth headset, speakerphone, or earpiece) and is nearly indistinguishable from a land line on the other end of the call. Like all digital phones without an analog backup (nearly all of them these days), service is spottier than you'd like. The Wall St. Journal recently published an article explaining why providers are incented to sell digital only phones even without full digital coverage - its cheaper. So if dropped calls are a big issue for you, or you live in the sticks, caveat emptor.
That said, the principle functionality - call-making and phone book storage - is beautiful. The phone book entry process is made much easier with iTap predictive text input, and the voice dial feature is easy to set up and use. The speakerphone suffers from the same deficiency that plagues the Sony Z600 - you have to be connected before the call can be switched from the earpiece to the speakerphone. This is a minor annoyance more than made up for by the clear sound that comes out once you do manage to switch the call over.
The hi-fi rings are a hoot! These are not just cheesy electronic renditions of pop tunes, but are actually MP3s of the songs themselves. I've assigned an MP3 of "Crazy Train" to certain very silly members of my extended family, and "Everyday People" to any other (non-VIP) calls. Coupled with the "event lights" (a bulls-eye of irridescent rings that illuminate when you get a call, receive an email, make a bluetooth connection, etc), configurable wallpaper and screen savers, etc etc etc, you have a highly-personalizable toy.
The built in camera is head and shoulders above my wife's Sony T610 - it's still not a substitute for a dedicated camera, but it suffices for goofy, non-business-critical applications.
The functional elements of the phone are definitely an 'A+'. What makes this a classic is the form - a sleek stainless steel case with a nice, hefty feel, well-machined keys and a bright, georgeous screen make this a pleasure to look at and use. My sole complaint is the location of the voice dial key, which has a tendency to activate whenever I flip open the phone with one hand (the consultant quick-draw, as it were).
If you have the couple-o-hundy to spend on this beauty, by all means spend away.
40 Don't believe the hype
I got this phone through AT&T and our corporate account in APril of '04 and have had it since. This is an expensive phone so it should work as great as it claims but it actually didn't get great service in Northern NJ USA, which is my primary region i use the phone in. The v600 ease of use was amazing with everything except the bluetooth, all the Sony Ericcson phones i have work seemlessly with windows xp and a bluetooth connection, but the v600 needs software which you must buy with a motorola data cable that your obviously not going to use since you want bluetooth for another $50. the Ericsson's include the software if you need it, but you don't, they just work. The Motorola camera and picture quality is far superior to that of any other phone i have ever had. When there is reception it is great and absolutely clear but it constaly droppes calls or can't find the service provider in NJ with AT&T, even when it shows 5 bars. I had the phone replaced and it still had the same problems with another unit. I went back to the Sony ericsson and no such problems. The kick in the pants is that the v600 worked so much better in Las Vegas and Chicago that if i lived there i probably would have given it 4 stars instead. The Last gripes are its heavy, and the speakerphone works in an asinine manner where i can't just turn it on then call, i have to complete a call before i can activate it incoming or outgoing. I guess truly aside of the great camera function, its not that terrific a phone. I have to say i am terribly dissappointed more than anything else thats why i am being kind of picky about the v600, i have been waiting since august of '03 for this phone and this is how it turned out, very dissappointing.
*******
I'm just adding this in, this phone was discontinued due to the fact that the software did drop calls when the phone switched cell towers. Just google v600 reviews and read some of the various complaints and reviews. The reason the phone worked so well in Las Vegas is because i was in the same 3 casino's the whole time!!!

41 Why you will love V600
V600 is the best, most expensive cell phones I have ever had and I soon realized that both men and women like it. Before I give the reason, here are the pros and cons I have experienced so far.
Positives:
1) Free, nice looking ear piece was delivered with my item.
2) With headset plugged in, calls can be answered without having to open (or even touch) the phone !
3) You can use it as a modem and for faxes!
4) Pictures taken from its camera are decent when you see them on the large phone display.
5) Plays very clear sounds and videos
6) Built in Voice dialling feature is a real cool feature.
7) Datebook, calculators and capability to receive free text messages (on AT&T) can make you much more organized
8) mMode subscription (AT&T) to surf the web can make you very productive.
Negatives:
1) For AT&T customers, having the mMode key same as the general select key is a major problem. If you accidentally press the mMode key, the browser will launch and you will be charged for the data transfer. This is ABOMINABLE! Almost feels like a trap to make customers pay for web access even if they don't want to.
2) The user guide is 250 pages long! It takes time to understand all the phone features.
3) I had a little difficulty in putting my SIM card in.
4) The top display is very small and has blue background which makes it difficult to read.
Overall, a very good buy. It is almost a PDA at the cost of a cell phone.
FINAL VERDICT: A great gift for your significant other. While the men will love it for all the cool features and a chance to use some real complex ones like faxes, women will love it for its smooth top and chic look.
42 Great Phone
I just revieved this phone about 3 weeks ago, im having no problems and love it! Only thing is it does attract finger prints and scratches, and the phone book could get annoying for someone who had people with lots of numbers.
43 I love my Motorola V600!!!
I just got this phone after having a Nokia and I already love it! The reception is great! My other phone would go out in certain areas, and this phone does not. The dial keys are large enough to use and still stay small. One other great feature is to turn on vibrate, it's a matter of turning the volume down on one button. I highly recommend this phone!
44 For a technophobe...and without the AT&T Probs
My exp with a V600 is more about the phone than the service provider. I only use my phone to receive messages and make a few, I don't browse or download data but I might start emailing when overseas. I chose the Motorola because it's quadband and has Bluetooth. So far I'm impressed: the ring is loud; the pictures large and clear, the sound clear. *I* like a larger phone so I can *feel* it and my clumsy fingers can manage the keypad. I don't want/need fancy ringtones, wallpaper etc. I don't talk that much so the battery life has been fine yesterday and today (however, I miss it telling me when the battery's charged!). I haven't had any dropping out problems so I'm going to assume it's the provider (?).
For Aussies: In Australia the phone is *free* with a 24 month $AUD30 plan (Telstra includes $30 free phone calls per month and 140 mintues free calls per week;free Bluetooth, USB cabale, software and WAP account). I upgraded because I thought it would be fun to send photos to emails while on holidays. When I called the operator to hook me up, she took me step by step through the process-- you have to register witha free email at Telstra and then she sends the code for your phone. Please call on landline so you can SEE the numbers and punch them in (doh!).
I'm reserving the fifth star until I fully work out the menus and the phonebook. I'll be setting up (?) phone book tomorrow--my only complaint so far is I miss the old Motorola charger because the adaptor was international (ie Aus & US) and really well designed and I can't use my old one :( Lastly, who writes these manuals, while some things are repeated twice, there is a huge gap in others?--luckily Telstra has great support).
45 This is the Best Phone I ever had!
I like it because it's easier to use. I like the Caller ID on the Cover where it's a blue light at night and it's very easier to see in the daytime. I like the camera phone which is 640 x 480 VGA with Auto Lighting situation. This is the best camera I ever used without a flash. I like the ability to where I can have pictures saved to my address book and have picture Caller ID. The next thing that got me sold is the Bluetooth. I brought the Motorola Bluetooth Headset HS810 and it was really made for each other. It's awesome to use together. The Bluetooth capability is clear and detail as if I was using a wired headset. I have AT&T Service and M-Mode is great!
46 Overall decent phone, but has flaws; AT&T service terrible
While I have had similar experiences to other reviewers here, I will be a little less harsh.
The phone itself is decent. Fantastic color screen (and very clear), and I tend to like the Motorola user interface. All of the buttons are fully customizable, which is very nice. The phone is small and light, although a little heavier than my old Motorola v60t. It does tend to scratch easily, so that is something to be aware of. The phone also seems to be pretty buggy. The outside LED blanks out every once in a while, and I have to restart the phone because it crashes every once in a while.
The reception/AT&T service are the main issue with the phone. I just cannot get a clear call anywhere (I am in the Chicago area). I previously used Verizon with a Verizon 60t, which had fantastic reception. Now my calls drop all of the time. I have 5 bars when looking at the phone, but any time I try to make a call, it automatically goes down to 2-3 bars. People can barely hear me when I talk to them.
Again, I can't really tell whether it is the phone or the AT&T service. I'm thinking of getting the Nokia 6600, which is suppose to have the best reception of any phone, and see if that helps. Otherwise, it just might be AT&T and I'm stuck. Regardless, make sure you know what you get into before buying the v600 with AT&T.
47 Amazon is great.. phone is great, just say away from AT&T
WARNING: AT&T representatives ("Dawn: R361" and "Max: N360") themselves said during my troubleshooting (as detailed below) that I should NOT have bought through Amazon, and that they have received a barrage of complaints from Amazon buyers! I still really like Amazon, but they're integration with AT&T is non existent. People should not have to wait 2-3 days for service after they receive the phone. Buy the same phone on Amazon, but a different carrier.
48 Worthless as any other motorola
I was reading through the reviews and was wondering whether I was using a different phone than others. But the last time I checked my phone was Motorola V600 and it sucks just like any other Motorola phone.
I used to have T-Mobile until a month ago and boy! did AT&T trick me with all the signals they show in their ads. My worst experience with a cell phone or a provider.
I never get good signal. It gets disconnected often. With T-Mobile I used to have very good signal at work. Now I will be lucky if I have two signals out of how many I don't know, since I never went past 4 signal till now.
Also the phone scratches itself. It has a lots of features like camera, browser and other. But, Hello I bought the cell phone to make calls. To take pictures I have a beautiful Nikon 4200 at home and verizon DSL for internet.
Sound you hear is blurry when using the speaker phone and they could hardly hear u at the other end.
My friend has AT&T and a Nokia phone which gets better signals than mine. Motorola V300 had a better look and it had a better material to get good grip.
With AT&T I have not spoken to a customer service person because each time I call I have to wait for atleast 15 Min. Try that with this phone... I get disconnected within 5 mins.
My suggestion:Donot buy this phone and never get AT&T as your provider or stay in back of the line of millions with all your grievances for the next two years.
49 Wait for next version
1) You can not talk while the phone is charging, so if your battery is dead and you have a charger and need to make a call you are SOL.
2) Sometimes the phone will not charge and completely drain even though you have it plugged into the charger.
3) Expect to have your phone on the charger every 2 to 3 days.
50 Action packed - needs some shock absorbers though
I did a lot of reading before going for this phone - so let me clear off a few misconceptions.
The phone can store more than one number for each name.
Though the search function isnt that good
those of you doing lot of SMS...but are slow in typing...This is the phone for you
iTap is awesome - T9 sucks
But for the expert typer...V600 reacts slowly
Though the phone has everything packed, the organization of the menus is average.
The phone build quality is good, its on the heavier side.
SMS options...of sending to groups of ppl, their emails or phones...such options are top notch.
Therez one big flaw in the phone...which can irritate anyone - The signal drops to zero..and phone acts as if its been restarted every now and then
The charging time varies like anything...God knows whats going on with the motto coz sometimes you have to switch off and switch on...to really charge it
and...everything else...A++++++++++
51 Great phone, great features, a little room for improvement
I anxiously awaited the V600's availability as this was the phone that would replace my pda and old digital phone combined. I love the sound quality, the bluetooth feature, looks, and ability to sync with Outlook. My reception with AT&T has never been better and accessing company or Yahoo! email is a snap. My only complaints is the phonebook layout. Unless you have your contacts highly organized, you must scroll down (one entry at a time) to reach a contact within a letter. For example, to find John Smith, you go to the J's and scroll up or down to that contact. How about putting MS PC on this?
Otherwise, I love this thing!
52 Seemed good, but the software . . . .
The phone seemed very nice, during the five hours I owned it.
I got the phone specifically so that I could synchronize the phone contacts with my PC. Unfortunately, there is little or no information about the required software included with the phone.
Now one might think that for a phone that costs anywhere from $250 - $400, software would be included for free. But one would be mistaken. One would think that perhaps a demo copy of the software would be included. But it is not. One might think that -- gasp! -- the software could be downloaded from a web site. One might even think that the software could be purchased at a local AT&T store. But alas! Not possible on all counts.
No, the only option is to order the software online, and then wait for however long it takes for UPS Ground to deliver it. And by the way, the software and data cable will run around $60, the data cable being something that probably costs under a dollar to manufacture. The software alone -- after you finally locate it on a web site with no particular help from the manual -- costs $30.
Maybe I'm getting crotchety in my old age, but in comparison with the service other companies provide these days, I found the whole software deal for this phone pretty stupid. I suppose the company thinks that anyone willing to spend that much money on a phone won't mind paying for software, and waiting around for it to be delivered. If so, they were wrong. I boxed the phone up and took it back to the store.
53 please if anybody can help me
motorola v600 is a nice phone all thje features are fine and user friendly tooo but i have a problem i am using hutch(karnataka)as the gsm service provider i am not able to set up the mms settings if anybody can help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
54 It is a good phone
My main reason why I got this pricy phone was that to conect to PC; so that I can get rid of my appointment book.
Well, I purchased a software on eBay which works great. But still I have some troubles between. I might need more knowledge about MS Outlook. And not so great thing about solving problems is that when I call Moto's tech. support line, I will be transfered overseas, or at least soundes like, ( I am sure lots of forks are familiar with tech jobs have moved to overseas) it is not easy to communicate and confuses me more...
They are all nice on the phone but it could be frustrating.
Downloadable instruction book is 110 pages long.
But once I clear my trouble, I am sure this phone is really great.
So far, I don't have any connection trouble, it takes great photos.
You just need to work on this in order to work for you perfectely.
55 Phonebook
For the first person who reviewed this phone... there is a way to list multiple numbers under one name. A little playing around with every feature and option on the phone and I figured it out.
When entering a new person (or old) scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen where you enter the info in. There is an option "MORE" click that. Then click new entry... type in the second number for the person. When you go back to that persons info page you will see both numbers.
As for my review... I just bought it so I didnt want to rush to give it a 5 yet. But it is terrific as far as my experience with it. I have no volume problems. Loud as can be and clear. Although the person is clear when there is no talking or pause in convo you hear static. But when talking its fine. I dont like to pay much for cell phones but I think it was worth it.
56 Big Disappointment
This phone has great features and I couldn't wait to use this quad-band, bluetooth and camera equipped beauty. Boy was I disappointed! I couldn't get reception in any of the local office buildings and repeatedly lost the signal in my own living room - problems that rarely occured with my trusty Nokia 8260 (a TDMA phone). In addition, the Motorola menus are needlessly complicated with essential functions buried three or four keystrokes deep in the command menus. Finally, the V600 I bought up and quit altogether at 2:03 AM of the fourth day of ownership. I'm not sure whether it's Motorola, AT&T or the GSM network that failed me, but I suspect they all played a role. Be sure you can return this little guy quickly and easily if it doesn't work out.
57 A really great phone.
I've had this phone for two months and I can't say enough good things about it. It really is an all-around great phone. It's the perfect size, great screen and camera, great RF performance (reception), and has a ton of little extras.
Now I've tried the phone all around the country so far in the South West and North East... in both places the phone had great RF performance. People could hear me and I could hear them (as long as the other person had a good recpetion if they were on a cellphone). The places where I've tried it are around Northern Arizona, around Phoenix, Denver, Boston, and Southern and Eastern Massachusetts. I will be travelling more later this year and expect the same great service
Some of the great features it has is the excellent screen with high-quality images, it's camera that can take nifty little pictures that really do have good quality to them, the Java is fun to use with games and programs that I download via mMode, the indicator light on the outside is a nice extra that also looks good and is very useful, the bluetooth worked great when I connected to a wireless headset and an apple powerbook I was trying. I never left 15 feet but I know it can go farther and still have the good connection I had, and the ringtones are great. I only have one MP3 ringtone and I only use the continental ring but they all sound great. Also the speakerphone is very useful... I use it a lot.
Ok now after all that rambling about what I like about it I will tell you what I dislike about it:
I dont like the earpeice that much. It is a little quiet even on it's loudest setting. But that's ok because I can use either my bluetooth headset (or even the free earbud that comes with the phone), or the speakerphone that also works great. Also sometimes it can slow down a bit, but newer models have had this fixed from what I have heard (if not just get a firmware update). And the biggest problem I have is that mine scratches itself. Now this is a rare problem so I don't expect you to have it but some do. They'll replace yours for free like they are doing mine next week.
So here is a summary of what I just said:
+Pros:
+Screen
+Ringtones
+Size/Style
+Camera
+Features
-Cons:
-Earpeice
-Early software
-mine scratches itself
So I really hope you spend the extra bucks and get this phone. It really is a good phone. =)
58 Love this phone
The Good:
- excellent brightness and good color
- Nifty speaker phone feature
- Nice sized keys wih varying sizes make it easy to key numbers in without having to look
- Good sound quality
The Bad (ish)
- The BlueTooth functions are a little difficult to find
- the camera takes passable photos -- the color is okay - but it is a little on the blue-hued side
- I gave up on synching data with my PC I too found the software unusable
I cannot vouch for AT&Ts service - but I have heard negative things about them.
59 nifty little phone
i recently replaced my panisonic allure phone with the v600. i was worried because one the reviews said you couldn't adjust the sound on the game "stuntman", but that is a misconception because i turned off the sound by using the options screen in the menu of the game.
it is a great phone. sometimes a little hard to figure out where things are located, but nice other than that.
60 Multiple Numbers Per Person does Work!
Most of the people complaining about the phonebook haven't read the manual. In order to have multiple numbers under the same single phonebook entry, just designate a primary number for each number.
Then you need to do the following:
1. Go to your phonebook
2. Press the menu button (top center button)
3. From Phonebook menu, scroll down and select Setup
4. Select third field, "View: Primary Contacts"
Now you can assign a whole bunch of numbers to a single person and scroll through them by using the left and right arrows.
that's it...a bit cumbersome, but it makes the phonebook easier to use.
thanks...Lee
61 Horrible!!
Extremely Bad service, Customer service takes ages. The electronic voice kept repeating that my call will be answered in ten minutes, for two hours and finally hung up on me without answering.
I was given a wrong area code(their mistake), They changed it and when i received the bill i was charged double the monthly rent coz i was considered to have two working numbers.
They always make mistakes in the bill, when you try to call them about it, guess what ... u are on hold for ten minutes...then ten minutes again... then ten minutes again... for two hours...
Oh yes ! i managed to return the phone within the one month trial period and it took them only two full months and numerous phone calls to mail the shipping lables.
If you plan to buy a AT&T phone even after reading this... Good luck.
62 Solid, all-around phone
When it comes to packing as many features as possible into a small form factor, this phone is about as good as it gets. It is smaller than many phones who have half the number of features. The screen and camera are of a much better quality than many other phones as well. The Amazon description pretty much covered all of the features.
A few downsides:
1) The desktop software (which didn't even come with the phone) is pretty bad. Aside from the software itself being unintuitive, the sync over a Bluetooth connection was slooooooow. That combination pretty much, in my opinion, makes the calendaring feature pretty much unusable (ie. this will not suffice as a PDA replacement).
2) If you use Bluetooth actively (even if you accidentally leave Bluetooth enabled in range of other Bluetooth devices) the phone's battery drains quick (less than one day).
3) Probably not the phone's fault, but the AT&T GSM network seems pretty spotty.
63 Poor Battery / Long Charge Time / Overall Good Phone
I was looking into buying a V600 via Amazon.com, but I did not get it here. With a little bargin hunting, a local store threw in a few extras(eg. Motorola Blue tooth headset HS810 for free, $75.00 service credit, an instore discount to bring the price down to $99.00 Plus tax but I had to sign a 2yr contract with Cingular, I also picked up the 19.99 Media package from cingular which has 1500 text msg, 200 MMS Msg, "Unlimited" Wireless Internet Express!!! per month) Another thing that added to my decision to buy from a local store and sign up with Cingular was that the V600 from cingular is "Unlocked" which means I can use any "GSM" SIM Card in it, Anywhere there is GSM service, Europe, ASIA, South America, etc...The trick here is if you travel and instead of paying high international roaming charges, you pick up a local prepaid sim card and stick it in your phone and thats it. AT&T and TMobile phones are still "LOCKED" and you can only use them with their service. But you can get them unlocked but you would have to modifly your phone software which might void the warranty if not done by AT&T or TMobile. The motorola is a "TRUE Quad Band World phone" so why have restriction to it use!!!
But if I did not fall into that I would had purchased the V600 from amazon.com and pickup AT&T service...I have been sitting on the fence watching and waiting for amazon.com to drop the prices and set up some type of "porting" process with AT&T for some time, but this deal was at the right time for me.
Anyways I had the phone for about 2 weeks now, the battery life is poor. I had better talk times with sony/ericson before. The "slim Li-ion" battery last for about 1 day at most with regular usage before you have to charge it. The charger only "trickle" charges and it takes a good 4-6 hours to bring the battery up to full charge!!!
I have looked for "extened" batteries but none exsits at the time. I have also looked for "fast chargers" and they are not around yet. Perhaps Motorola will see that this is a problem, and make a battery that has more capacity and sell it later. They might have to make a "Bigger and Fatter" battery with a modified battery cover since it is part of the v600 casing, like they did for the v60's
So I purchased a motorola car charger and I have the phone pluged in when I am in the car, and I also use Motorola's "Desktop clock/charger" at home which has a slot for the phone and a spare battery at the same time. So I sit waiting for a "Longer Life" battery to come.
Another thing the phone has a VGA camera 640x480 but no abilities to take "Video" it can only take "Stills". You can however download video clips and play them on the phone. The phone only has 5Megs of shared internal memory. Some ringtones, games and pictures all add up quickly in memory usage.
OVERALL the phone is solid and easy to use, phonebook, datebook, messages, etc... all about as what you would expect from a phone.
I read that the new version the "V710" will have Video abilities, expandable memory, and a 1+ Megapxial camera, who knows when that comes out what better features will be in the next phone. At this time the V600 is very good and usable for now.
I gave it
3 stars B/C with all the bells and wistles you should have a battery that lasts and a charger that does not take "overnight" to charge the thing up to full power.
3 1/2 stars if this was fixed.
4 stars if it had video capture ability and expandable memory
5 stars if it had PTT (Push to Talk/Walkie-Talkie) and the phone carriers got on that bandwagon!!!
I hope this helps you....
64 My Thoughts
First I want to agree the Arif from wash. DC, the phone book setup Isn't good , I've had the M. V600 for 2 weeks now I don't think im going to keep it for the price. The volume is very low and I had it on full plus the ring tones r nice the ones I ordered but its low not loud enough like my NEC 525. I haven't been through all the features yet but the ones I did try like taking pictures they come out nice a clear. And one more thing I'm not going to drag this on, when talking to someone on the M. V600 they sound a lil muffled I think im going to return the phone and just keep my NEC 525.. One more thing takes a year to charge.. Thats it people hope this helped..
65 GREAT PHONE, GREAT SERVICE PROVIDER!!
when i first got ATT, i had TDMA (digital) and i hated it. my fone wouldnt even get a signal in my house, and i live only 2 miles away from NYC. i was ready to go to a different provider. tehn, att got GSM (next generation) so i switched to that. WOW!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! my fone gets a FULL signal in any building i go to, it gets a full signal in puerto rico, mexico, anywhere i go on vacation! ITS WONDERFUL! and with this fone, THINGS COULDNT B BETTER!! the camera on this fone is great! thet ringtones r great. i dont like that it cant ring and vibrate at same time, but its ok. this phone is a MUST for ppl woh wnat a fone with a huge variety of features., and again, ATT GSM AMERICA IS WONDERFUL!!! MUCH BETTER THAN T-MOBILE!!!!
66 Hype, Actuals and the Facts- V600
To start with I was very much excited by the very looks of the phone. Once I got the phone 2 weeks ago from amazon I felt like it is one of those phones about which you cannot complain much. They could have added a few extra features like activating the speaker before actually placing the call, an easier access to alarm clock function, etc which would have made life easier for the user. All in all not a bad buy. I previously had a sony ericsson T616 and I felt the menus and navigation were much easier on it than this. One sure thing if you are going to buy this phone is that it will surely turn some heads when u are using it. If you want that go ahead and buy this, if you want a user freindly menu phone go for a different phone
67 Good basics, decent Camera, Fair price....
This phone does almost everything well. The best part about it is that its a great phone. The camera is fine, the calc is nice, bluetooth works great!!
Would Reccomend!

68 Great phone, in every way
This phone is a very hyped and popular phone, and with good reason. I don't think I've ever seen a better looking cell phone, and better yet you can customize it even more. It's not flimsy, like many current flip phones, but it feels very strong and durable. The screen is one of the best for a flip phone, it offers a very nice 5mb of memory, MP3 playback, supports Java applications, which is very useful if you're into games and it supports bluetooth which is also very useful, unforunately no IR, which isn't really that important anyway. The camera is VGA with 4x zoom, and the keys are practically perfect. The UI is great, and everything on the phone, inside and out, is fully customizable. It's also quad-band, so that means world-wide roaming and if you know alot of people you can store an entire 1000 phonebook entries. You can also watch short video clips on the phone, which in my opinion looks VERY nice. The phone is near perfect, it provides virtually all the features a teenanger would love along with the ones a business person can't do without. If you can afford it, you can't go wrong here.
69 it's more than bells and whistles
First off, I'm not one for gadgets. the camera is novel and the ring tones are fun (until they become irritating) but this phone isn't geared towards the teen-agers. It's first and foremost a business phone with features and software geared for professionals. If you are in the market for a phone that looks cute so you can show your friends then there are lots of Nokia's and Panasonics to choose from. However, if you are looking for a well-built wireless phone with excellent reception and data capabilities then look no farther than the V600. From it's sturdy metal construction and subdued colors to the bluetooth data transfer answer the cries of mobile professionals looking for a reliable workhorse.
For me the biggest selling point was the quad-band, as I travel extensively and require a phone to work anywhere in any country. So far I haven't found a place where the little V600 requires anything more than a new SIM replacement (usually the mobile carriers sell these at the airports).
A note of caution is in order if you are looking to use different SIM carriers in the U.S.: Usually these phones are locked if bought from a phone company. Even if you can persuade them to unlock the phone it may have been engineered by your phone company without a SIM slot (ala QWEST). Even so, some carriers balk at customers wanting to purchase a SIM for use in another carrier's phone. If the quad-band is of interest to you check with your carrier before purchasing or buy one from Motorola unlocked without carrier specs and branding.
If the so-called "high price" makes you uneasy then remember you can always buy a mega-pixel digital camera and still have enough money left over to pick up a gadget nokia to impress your friends. I'll stick with having a phone that always works.
70 Feature packed with solid Quality metal case.
I have had this V600 Motorola jewel for three weeks and indeed, it is an excellent phone. All amenities were beyond my expectations. The phone size, weight and layout are excellent. Blue Tooth connectivity was excellent. The phone has a neat recorder that turned out to be a real nice addition. One can record up to a one minute message and play back a will. A really nice feature of this is that one can record phone conversations and record directions or phone numbers during the conversation for later playback. Also, for husbands calling home for bread and milk pickups, You'll record all the extra you'll need to ensure your not in trouble when you get home.
Pictures can be taken and sent to another phone or a computer email address. The pictures are very good. An option can be purchased to transfer to your computer either blue tooth or cable. There is a camera zoom feature which is digital, not optical, but can really save the day.
I Purchased an excellent Blue Tooth headphone (Logitech) and am able to have calls directed to the headset without touching the phone. A real safety measure when driving. The headset includes noise canceling technology so you can hear clearly when in a noisy area. The headset has a seven (7) hour talk time and one month standby and charges it's lithium battery in a neat cradle which has a cover to keep any dust off. It affords maximum comfort when worn for long periods.
The speaker phone is excellent and is certainly loud enough for any situation. The antenna is external but is fixed and does not need to be raised. The face of the flip sports whats termed as situational lights which can be customized to identify a category of callers in the phone book. Categories are VIP, Personal, General and Business. Also, event lights identify incoming text message, etc. The key layout is well spaced and large enough for most to use easily. The front and back cover is mostly metal and provides a feeling of sturdiness and assurance. Mine is set to answer when opened. A unique charging cradle can purchased from Cingular which allows calls to be forwarded to your home line without using any cellular minutes. This is a Cingular feature only. Good shopping!! Frank from PA.
71 Great feature packed phone with clear sound.

72 nice phone..
Nice phone.. Att is ok. But now with cingular merging its network, getting better.
No clues yet on where to spend $30 to get the synch software are bluetooth accessory for data synch with outlook .. Anyone?
73 Typical Motorola junk
Coming from a Samsung cell phone, this Motorola felt like a cheap toy. I've owned 3 Motorola's and 1 Samsung in the past and not one Moto surpasses the one Samsung I've owned. After all the hype, I was really expecting a feature packed quality phone, but received typical Moto junk.
First of all, when is Moto going to put the "talk" and "end" button in the correct places?
Second, this is a laggy phone. From the viewing the browser to simply trying to access my phonebook, sometimes the phone lags as if I'm trying to do too many things simultaneously. It's not a huge problem, but it's just annoying sometimes especially for a phone at this price.
Third, when you flip open and close the phone, it will eventually start scratching the top mid section of the phone. It's hard to explain exactly where, but it does. I think they've corrected this problem for the new versions of the V600.
Fourth, the V600 was a lot heavier than I expected. I started to notice this after a few days of carrying it around. It's kinda big compared to the current new line-up of cell phones.
Fifth, NO VIDEO? Dissapointing. I thought having bluetooth would of outweighed this lack of feature, but it didn't.
Sixth, the design of the phone is mediocre, but looks really outdated and tacky compared to the new Samsung models such as the A680. Again, I thought the function and features of this phone would make me forget about the looks, but everytime I see a sleek sexy silver flip-phone by Samsung, LG or SE (z600), I regret getting this Moto. The worst part is, bluetooth is not even as useful as I thought it'd be. Not much to do other than using a wireless headset and transfering files. Currently only 1 car, 04 Acura TL, has BT as well.
Finally, the ear piece is absolute horse crap. No further explanation is needed.
Positives of this phone are minimal. It has a nice vibrant LCD screen. The shape of the phone itself feels good in your hands, but it does feel a bit cheap. It doesn't feel like it could take a good beating. A couple drops and the phone could literally fall apart. The outside LCD is OK, although they could of made it a color LCD screen like the Samsung A680 and Sanyo 8200 where you can utilize photo caller-ID. The reception is above average, but that will vary depending on your location. The camera is good at best, but not the greatest. Overall, not a good phone for the price.
The only reason I can understand for the people purchasing this phone is for those who absolutely need BT or they're a die-hard Moto fan. Otherwise, this phone is not worth the hefty price-tag.
74 Good Phone but beware
This is a good phone, a little over priced for what it can do. The first problem is that the software is still buggy and cause slowdowns when the phone is operated. The phonebook is bad because it does not let you organize different numbers under one name so meaning that you will have the same name with his/her mobile number, work number, home number all listed as separate entries. The worst thing about the phone is the volume. The ear piece volume is really low and u have to use a headset when outside. The speaker phone is an adavantage. The bluetooth is really great and easy to setup and use. You can download the Motorola Phone Tools from www.motoclub.com and use it to synch your outlook and your phone. You can also get the USB cable for the phone, from like ebay or something, and add all the ringers and photos and videos also. Overall nice phone but unless you really want ATT, otherwise I would look at the Nokia 6600 offered by TMOBILE.
75 V600 well above average
This is a very good flip phone with many super features. The bluetooth motorola earpiece takes a little getting used too but works fine. The screen is a little on the small size and as mentioned in another review the on and off buttons are reversed so it takes a little getting used to. I wanted a SONY 900 but was unable to get one in my market (Nashville). I replaced a Samsung vg1000 which was fine but SPRINT is by far the weakest service provider. It took 45 minutes and 6 people to cancel my service and then it wasnt prorated for the remaining 16 days. I also have a Sprint Treo 300 that dumped all data 6 times in 4 months and refused to power up. I cannot stress strongly enough that SPRINT is not customer friendly. I have found cingular to be far superior in the short run at least.
76 Very happy with this selection
This phone replaced my Nokia 8390. It is a far superior phone. The phone gets great reception and I have no problem hearing the other caller. I had to turn down the volume. I don't lose the signal in certain areas of my house/neighborhood that I experience with the Nokia. The large color screen is great, the key pad is easy to use. It took me a little while to adjust to the weigh, the 8390 was smaller and much lighter. The camera is very easy to use and it even takes good pictures indoor. I did find moving around the menu a bit confusing, it isn't as straight forward as Nokia. But the option to customize the navigation keys is a plus. The phone book lacks a note feature, which I used frequently on my old phone. The external keys are too sensitive. I trigger the "smart key" frequently when reach for the phone. The bluetooth capability is a big advantage and the phone works great with my AT&T Wireless service. The external screen another plus.
77 High price lowers score
If I had spent about one hundred bucks for this phone I would have been much happier. For the price, this phone could be better. Before I go on, however, let me say this is a good phone. I am able to receive calls in more places, I have fewer dropped calls, and the reception/speaker phone are great. (I realize much of this has to do with AT&T poor service.) Receiving calls without losing them should be expected, even from the "free" phones. But this phone falls short in some places. With my old Nokia, I could lock it by pushing a couple of buttons. The Motorola requires scrolling through the security menu (8 clicks). Why would I have to lock a flip phone, you ask? Because the side buttons that remain exposed when the cover is closed start the voice recording (3 unexpected messages recorded in a week); and scrolls though the ring style (when I hit silent mode I expect the phone stay silent). When pulling it out of my carrier (not included, of course), I've pressed the buttons accidently -- unless the scrolling happened as the phone rested in the carrier -- worse! Speaking of scrolling, the phone book software saves every number separately. So, if you have 3 or 4 or 5 numbers for someone (not unusual these days) be prepared to scroll through all of these to get to the one you need (instead of drilling down to a submenu with only the name listed). Finally, the manual is terrible. Things are difficult to find (I still can't tell if the phone can transfer my phone numbers from my SIM card -- I don't think it can); and there is no diagram explaining what the buttons and other components are (like the rubber plug on the back of the phone that keeps the back cover from closing properly). Also, if you want to transfer numbers to and from the phone (see my SIM card comment above), be prepared to spend another 30 bucks on the synching software. And when you're ordering the software, make sure to order an extra earpiece...the one that comes with the phone is lousy (can you hear me now?...{shouting} I SAID, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW). Am I happy...yes. Super satisfied? Far from it.
78 Excellent phone, but !!!
I had Nokia 6610 for 6 months, and have been very happy with it. But wanted to buy a camera phone phone with bluetooth, so here in my opinion is one of the best choices. After using it for 2 weeks, this is what I think:
Pros:
- Decent camera with 4X zoom.
- Loaded with features
- Lots of "normal" ring tones
- Bluetooth (although haven't tried it yet)
- Keys nicely displayed, big screen
- Good battery life
Cons:
- The "on" and "off" keys are reversed, compared to Nokia and Samsung phones...A big nuisance.
- The antenna, although improves signal quality, is a pain in the a**.
- AT&T has the worst service, no fault of motorola.
- Usual problems with clamshell phones, like having to answer a call while driving is much easier if you have a "candy bar" Nokia phone.
- The phone is a little heavier than the new samsung and nokia phones, and is not as small as some pictures suggest.
- Some of the menu features are hidden way deep. Nokia, in my opinion, has the most user friendly menu display.
Overall an excellent phone, but seriously consider Nokia 6600.

79 ok with at&t, but better with t mobile
All around this is a great phone. It has great features such as bluetooth and great camera quality compared to my E715. The phone was ok with At&t service. After unlocking the phone used it with Tmobile, calls were alot clearer and picked up reception where at&t couldn't. Overall this is a great phone, the software on the phone is still a little buggy, theres a slight delay when trying to pick up an incoming call.
80 Feature packed including Bluetooth!
I recently purchased the V600 for AT&T's service. I have to say this is the best cell phone I've ever used! I'll tell you why. I myself have had various cell phones over the past seven years, everyone was a flip phone. I've had pretty good luck with them, even with the Motorola 720! This phone has anything the average tech head would want. First thing is the Bluetooth. I can send my appointments and contacts and pictures to my computer, via usb bluetooth adapter. Picture quality is the best I've seen on a cell phone. I'm actually able to blow up the pictures on my computer to about 6x9 size with very good clarity. Even though the included ringtones are great the mp3 ringtones ability lets me edit any mp3 I have and send it to my V600 as a ringtone. The speakerphone actually works really good even when I'm in my car on the highway.
And probably the most important part is the call quality, it sounds as good or better than any other cell phone I've ever used. Voice recorder and external caller id are also a big thing for me and this phone has just been so dependable. And that's been my experience with it since I bought it six weeks ago.
81 Nice Unique phone with loads of Fun Features
Within the hour and a half it took me to set up and have the phone activated, i spent the next 5 or six hours customizing it with all my features, not to say those six hours were tedious becuase they were not. All i did was buy a USB Bluetooth PC adapter (the one from Belkin is great), paired it with my phone(which was easy), and i just trimmed down some of my MP3's to a few seconds and loaded them all to the phone wirelessly, then i was jamming to high quality MP3's, no more lously polyphonic rings for me (saves me money too, no more paying to download ring tones). As for the phone itself the reception is good, i am not the most experienced in cell phone usage, so i don't really have anythng to compare the service to, but it does whats it is supposed to do and i have no complaints (so far anyway). The navigation is intutitve, and the phone looks and feels sturdy and professional but trendy at the same time. All in all the phone is great and the fact that i can put my favorite songs (and not just the ones that are popular) and customize the look and feel of my phone to a Tee is an extra wonderful bonus. Get this phone, i doubt you will regret it.
82 My best phone ever
Excellent color and clarity on the screen. Camera works great. Easy, intuitive menu navigation and plenty of shortcut and customization options. (Make sure you understand all the trade-offs before deciding to set up your phonebook contacts on the phone memory or SIM card. For instance, if the contact is on the SIM card you can't attach a picture.) Ability to change ring style loud/soft/vibrate/vibrate & ring/off without opening the phone is very handy. Web downloads are reasonably fast. Battery life not great, but still better than average. Multi-position plastic holster is relatively cheap and extremely functional.
83 Kirk to Scotty!
Bthbthdatida! How do you spell that Star Trek communicator sound?
This replaces my V60 model and uses all the same chargers, earbud(BT), data connect(BT), It has more of everything. All the logical progressions from an already very good series.
The neccessary "Moto" software is current and updates well. It syncs with Outlook and Calendar. My first real use of BT. It's good once it sets up correctly.
Like all really good devices, the quality and the thought that is put into this technology is revealed with use. This phone falls short. The buttons have a delay. I miss calls when in other calls, it is flimsy now after almost a year. I ma disappointed with the durability of solid feel. I would switch back to the V60 except for Bluetooth.
115 kbps as modem, good sound quality, some dropped calls, so so battery life. Loose build, lot's of options and settings. 3 zoom levels for pics and all the multi-media funtions available today.
Go MOTO!
84 The best
This is the best cellphone ever made,IT is an spectacular phone.
85 The best
This is the best cell phone that human eyes have seen.It makes everything and the battery is incredible.
86 Good Phone
I have had this phone for long and it has just been great. The color is great, the camera is great, the reception is great also. TO THE PERSON WHO ASKED HOW TO UNLOCK IT: I don't know why you would wanna use it with TMobile, the worst of the worst, but to unlock it, you hafta call ATT and ask them for the unlock code. Good Luck!
87 Excellent Phone
This phone is by far the best cell phone out today for AT&T.
Good call and sound clarity, easy to use, good camera quality, GREAT features, and good battery life. Speaker phone and the bluetooth feature is great also. The quad band of this phone is great because of the international calling capabilities. The phonebook need shortcut features. Other than that, the phone great. It's definitely an all-purpose phone. No complaints.
88 Wonderful
Great! that's all I can say about this phone. This is phone is just too good to have it. Don't miss this one. Grab it from both hands. I was juss wondering if this phone can be used with any other service like T-Mobile. Does someone knows how to unlock it?
