Motorola i90c Phone (Nextel)

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
With a speakerphone, email and text messaging support, as well as support for Nextel's wireless web services, the i90c is the perfect companion. And of course, it supports Nextel's legendary Direct Connect walkie-talkie functions so you can connect with people in your work and personal network at the push of a button.

Design
Like other Nextel phones, the i90c is built tough for construction and utilities industry users. The inside of the phone's flip-up cover phone sports a grayscale LCD color display. Meanwhile, the outside cover features a supplementary monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The trademark Direct Connect and menu scrolling functions can be controlled from the side of the phone. A standard 2.5mm headset jack is provided on top of the phone. The phone's software features one-touch shortcuts to phone features and easy, icon-driven menus.

Calling Features
The i90c's built-in address book can store up to 250 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. The phone comes with built-in ringtones plus a vibrating alert. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone supports up to 20 voice dialing contacts. A built- in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear.

One of the key features of any Nextel phone is support for Nextel's Direct Connect walkie-talkie technology. The i90c fully supports the service, which allows for one-touch conversations with anyone else on a Nextel phone. It's like a having a CB radio with enough range to cover all of North America.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The i90c features support for two-way mobile-to-mobile or mobile-to-email text messaging (Nextel messaging charges apply). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the i90c, as well. Nextel's optional Nextel Online package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Nextel Online also features games, ringtones, realtime news and sports updates, virtual address books, and more-- all delivered to your Nextel phone.

The i90c ships with a calendar application that lets you book meetings, plan events, and set alarms that will automatically turn on the phone if needed. In addition to a Java-based calculator, there's also a voice recording application that lets you record up to three minutes of audio. A time and date clock are included, as well.

Entertainment
For those who want a little fun with their phone, the i90c ships with some built-in games from Sega. More games can be downloaded from the Nextel Online service.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola i90c weighs 5.33 ounces and measures 3.50 x 2.00 x 1.10 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.33 hours of digital talk time, and up to 75 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the IDEN 800 frequency. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
Motorola i90c handset, lithium-ion battery, AC travel charger, belt clip holster, user's manual.

1 It has games and a calculator
The previous reviewer said i90c doesn't have a calculator or games, that's incorrect. Under "Java Apps", you can find a calculator, a small utility to help calc the tips, and a few games. I've owned this phone for over a year, the quality has been great, but it looks kinda too bulky now so I replaced it with A630.
2 Great quality, but very outdated
This was a fantastic phone 3 years ago, and while it still has that high level of quality that makes Motorola so great, it is very outdated at this point. Without a color screen, a camera, a calculator or calander, this phone isn't good for much more beyond calling people. It has a strong signal with great audio quality, but it doesn't even have any games (oh no!) So while I wouldn't be too hasty to get rid of this phone if it still serves you well, I also wouldn't run out and buy this phone new.
3 Worst service on the planet
If you want the highest monthly bill for the worst service, buy Nextel. I've had Sprint, At&T, and Verizon, all better and cheaper. Bought Nextel for the Direct Connect, what a mistake. Verizon MUCH better. (New York metro area).
4 Phone is ok for typical users...
In my area, Nextel is the preferred carrier for construction companies. As a person who has 50+ nextel phones on my account, I know alot about the quality of these phones. I have seen them dropped in everything. The i90 is weak in the flip. The flip will fall off at the hinges or it will become disconnected inside the housing and quit working. Also the design of the keypad is weak. It is raised so that after using the i90 heavily for a year, the big round button near the top of the keypad begins to wear an imprint into your flip display.
5 Motorola i90
I bought this phone after a very bad experience with Nokia - not the phone but the service offered in our area (Collegeville,PA). Infact, I bought two of these phones - one for myself and the other for my husband. I simply LOVE this phone. The two best features of this phone are: the walkie talkie that is never out of range and so prompt and the speaker which is so clear and as good as any land line. Also, there is a display window on the phone and you don't need to flip it open to see who's calling.
LOVE IT!!!
[NEGATIVEs]
The phone is a little bulky compared to the other ones available in the market; but I would never trade it for anything else.
I had to call the customer service @ Nextel once and they weren't the most pleasant people.

Would highly recommend it.

6 Best Phone and Service
I have had Nextel service for 2 years and I love it and there phones and tech service are great. I took the damage coverage and reccomend that everyone should. My first phone got fried in water, and was replaced no questions asked my second had a charging problem and replaced with no problem nice for 3.95 a month considering they want 399.00 to replace.
7 No One Could Hear Me Then
I recently purchased the i90c. I am a huge fan of Motorola phones and have been extremely happy with them. The i90c is a GREAT phone. I have the V60g and wanted a larger handheld. The size is perfect, speakerphone awesome, and the belt clip is designed for easy release. The problem was with the Nextel service. Very spotty coverage in my area and very little service at my house and office where I used to have good coverage. Every carrier has their own good and bad areas, but people had a tough time understanding me during calls. The Direct Connect is great, but cellular reception for my customers is more important. As others have mentioned, no battery life. Need to charge it daily. You have 15 days to cancel and I did. Customer Service handled my problems, but they took an extremely long time to answer. I am used to T-Mobile's UNBELIEVABLE Customer Service Dept.: 5 minutes on hold at the most. Two calls to Nextel had me waiting for 50 minutes and 1 hour. Service needs improvement in my area. Staying put with crystal-clear T-Mobile.
8 BEST PHONE
i used to have verizon service and i got like no service AT ALL! then i witched to NEXTEL and i got so much better sevice and better calling.
9 GREAT PHONE FOR BEGINERS
this is this the best cell phine i ever had. it has the best sevice and great calling.
10 best phone i ever had
i used to have verizon phone before i got this phone...i used to get bad service and it was staticy...so i went looking for a new phone and everyone i new told me to get nextels i90...when i got this phone you could see the difference in services...the nextel phone was getting better service then the verizon...when i talk on the phone it is clear and i love the direct connect...i also love how no matter how many times you drop the phone it still goes...if u are looking for a new phone i recommend this phone.
11 Good Phone, BAD service
I just recently transferred my number from Cingular Wireless to Nextel. The i90c is an extremely reliable, well-built, fully featured phone, but Nextel on the other hand is a crappy service provider:

"Please hold while the Nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located..."

That's what people OFTEN hear when they try to call me, before it cuts to my voicemail. I've gotten many many many complaints from people who tell me they called, but my phone never even rang! I think Nextel has way too many customers than they can handle, and us consumers have to suffer the consequences.

Oh, and if you ever need to contact Nextel for any type of customer support, make sure you have at least 2 hours set aside for that ordeal because NO ONE WHO WORKS FOR NEXTEL KNOWS ANYTHING! Get used to being transferred from one idiot to the next...and you'll even be disconnected purposely on occasion after you've been on hold for 45 minutes straight. VERY FRUSTRATING, to say the least!

12 Nextel is awesome
I love my nextel i90c phone. I have had cellular service with Cingular and Centennial. I currently have the nationwide unlimited plan and I use approximately 3200 minutes a month. No other cellular service provider has such a plan that can cover an unlimited amount minutes a month for such a low price. I am extremely happy with nextel and have recommended the same to friends and relatives. One of my closest friends sells Verizon and although Verizon has more towers the two way capability of Verizon is there but the delay in two way talk is very aggrivating and to locate the next user usually takes about 20 seconds. Also I have not had any problems with battery life on my phone. It is recommended that you turn off your phone when you charge it so that it charges fully and I charge my phone at night when i go to sleep.
13 Great phone but...
I have used cell phones from Sprint PCS, TMobile, and Verizon and I think this is the best phone and the best service I have had. But, when you purchase the phone from Amazon, you have to call an 800 number to activate. I was on the phone for 90 minutes and went through 8 transfers before I actually got the phone activated. It seems that they have no idea what they are doing and I had to finally get a manager to do the activation.
14 the i90
I recently went to Verizon after being with Nextel for years, the i90 was the best phone I ever had with them... Nowadays you can even change the cases on them if you want, and make it unique. The phone was great, but the service stunk. You pay double the price than other carriers charge for the same amount of minutes. At first the direct connect was great when everyone I knew had a nextel... because you can usually get a cheaper plan - and still get unlimited direct connect minutes... but as people started going with other carriers more & more, I barely used the Direct connect anymore, and paying $70 a month for 400 minutes seemed a little rediculous. The phone has some great features, although I wished there was a way for you to personalize different ringtones for each person. It has a stylish blue blacklighting, (no color screen) and you can download ringtones, games, and features from their online store. It's a little sketchy with reception though... but I think this has more to do with the carrier than the phone. You could be in one place and have full reception, then move an inch and have none (& Lose the call). This was rather annoying. I also had a lot of missed calls. Often when I would make a call, It would say "system busy ... try again", and could take me up to 15 to finally connect. Again, very annoying. Especially if you need to talk to someone asap. So, all in all, if you have a business, or could really get the use out of the Direct Connect, then its fine... for normal everyday calls, I would shop around a little more first.
15 Nextel is Terrible - can you hear me now? probably not.
Nextel is by far the worst carrier of cell phones I have every had. Can you believe driving from Pasadena through the middle of Los Angeles and down to Playa del Rey, the phone cuts out 2 times -- regularly. Terrible. Cant get service in my own house.
16 My Third Nextel Phone
I started out with Nextel about 5 years ago and now I have the smallest phone available according to the Nextel rep I talked to yesterday. The i90c is a great phone. If you read the other reviews you will see lots of complaints of the menu system, that is because the user hasn't taken the time to set it up the way they want. The menu is easily adjustable so that the things you use most, in my case web and settings for switching to silent mode at work, can be moved to the top of the list. The voice dial is the one thing I think should be mandatory for anyone who talks and drives at the same time. With the headset I don't even have to look at my phone, just remember the hangup button is next to the antenna and is indented. I can't say enough good about this phone. Now for the only bad part, the battery/charger. The battery needs to be charged every two days for me, as opposed to my on i700plus that would last me 5 days or so. I average about 1500 minutes a month with Monday thru Friday for 8 hours my phone is on vibrate. I have had issues with the "Incompatible Charger" on my old i85s, as did my wife, brother and a few people he works with, but the cure is not to repair the phone, just replace the charger. My wife and I now use the charger that came with the i90 because the i85 charger kept giving that message, or opt for a desk charger and skip that whole problem. I have one factory charger, one aftermarket charger and two aftermarket car adapters that all work no problem. I did like the direct connect feature, but it has lost it's novelty. My wife an I just call eachother now, but I do use direct connect to talk to my brother or friends that have Nextel (all of whom live in other states) using the unlimited nationwide direct connect option. All in all I love this phone, although I have had it for about 14 months now (2 phone as my first phone dropped while open and came up in two pieces) so I am about to upgrade to the new Nextel flip the i730 but not because this phone needs to be replaced. Only because I want the newer toy.
17 Just bought my 2nd i90c
I've had my i90c for about a year now and am very pleased with it. Buying one for my wife now! It's very durable, and has all the function and more of previous phones I've had. It's also not quite as skinny as the LG phone I had before but that is due to the advantage of it being a Nextel walky talky style phone. Don't get the extra belt clip because it comes with one. I purchased the 'body glove' for this phone because it allows the phone to attach to your belt so that the display is pointed away from you so that it can be seen. An excellent buy!!
18 Don't do it!
Upon receiving the cel phone I called Nextel to activate the system. Nextel informed me that it would not activate my account in the manner necessary to comply (2 year contract) with the rebate offers BECAUSE I ordered on Amazon. After asking several times if I would be able to redeem my rebates, I was told that it was not Nextel's concern. I returned the Phone to Amazon and was fully refunded the cost of the phone costs but NOT shipping costs.

Normally I am very happy with Amazon.com and have recommended it to my family and friends. I am very dissatisfied with the service on this order especially after being recommended it by a friend and now having to look for new phone service.

19 Don't buy if you are in Arizona
I think most of the problems that I have this phone are caused by the fact the Nextel doesn't have a good coverage in Phoenix/AZ area. I have yet to make a single phone call which does not get disconnected midway. There are too many blank areas on I-17...and if you are driving to vegas...there is absolutely no coverage on the US-93.

Sometimes the phone would indicate full signal and yet the other person (ona land line) would not hear me clearly. Looks like something is seriously wrong with the network or may be the handset.

Tried to go back to the NEXTEL store. They asked me to pay $35 to send it to a service center. Then the service center would decide what to do (repair or replace). In the mean time I would pay for my monthly bill without having a phone....Something seems seriously wrong with Nextel support and service....who runs this company??

NEVER buy a NEXTEL in Arizona.

20 Incredibly satisfied
I recently joined the local volunteer fire company and wanted to get the nextel for direct connect and its reputable service to contact the guys at the station. Needless to say at my house its the only phone that gets full reception. I have friends who have sprint cingular verizon at& ( I have the T720 on the next generation as my primary cell phone) and none of them get good reception like i do with my nextel. The direct connect is awesome and even though verizon has their version of direct connect it takes 2-4 seconds for it go through. Not to mention the fact that most people who want 2 way have nextel and not verizon. Now the number portability act is soon upon us you will have more freedom to choose and believe me I chose right. I'm not saying that verizon is a bad company or any of the other ones are either since i have at&t service and get reception almost anywhere. Once again it also comes down to where you live and what the coverage is. In my tri state area most providers have good coverage but nextel was the way to go to serve my fire service needs.
21 Excellent phone
I just got this phone a couple of days ago. It is the first time I have delt with nextel and so far nothing but happiness of perfect signal everywhere. Before I had at&t. They are ok but the walkie talkie feature is unbeatable. You get connected to the person you need instantly. I have not lost a call yet. Everything is crystal clear, including in my house where for some reason I have never been able to get signal, except until I got the i90. Great phone for a great price. You can't go wrong with this one.
22 Great great phone, even better service
This is a great phone. I upgraded to this from a Nokia 3360 on the AT&T network. Needless to say i will never leave Nextel. Their Direct Connect feature is amazing, crystal clear, even when using nationwide direct connect (From New York to Nevada)! Love Java apps and polyphonic ring tones. Only one complaint about the phone is that the screen is a tiny bit small but, hey, it still deserves all 5-stars! Nextel has great customer service and very good mobile web. Their customer rep call back feature works like a charm, i received a call within two minutes from submitting the request. Whether you get this product off Amazon.com or somewhere else, you cannot go wrong with this phone. It's one rock-solid product
23 Great phone and service.
I have owned this phone since September of 2002. There are very few places where I lose service. Even in malls, elevators, office buildings, it works great. The phone is great also, the battery lasts a few days at most, but I charge every night, so it doesn't really matter. One of the other reviewers said that you can't use the direct connect feature while in another city, you can. I live in PA, and was in Maryland and the direct connect worked fine if I was DCing to other people in the area. You can't DC people from home there though. That should be changing when Nextel goes national. Overall it's a great service, and a great phone!
24 I90c
I've realy enjoyed this phone a lot! The size is perfect, it's durable, and the features are the bomb. Great phone, I can't wait to buy the I95c.
25 Very poor customer service
I ordered a Nextel National Value 300 plan (with free long distance) on Sept. 27 with this cell phone. It arrived days later on Oct. 2nd. Ironically, when I activated it the same day I received it, my headache began.

1. It took me 2 hrs to activate it. I was transferred from department to department, working with different people, dropped serveral times. They don't even have my plan information from Amazon.com!!

2. Nightmare! I received the first bill yesterday. I am charged for long distance service. I found out they actually activated another plan, but without free long distance!!! The Nextel simply told that they don't offer National Value 300 any longer since Oct. suggest a plan at more than $40 which I don't need!! Faint!

I didn't do anything wrong. I ordered an available product within promotion period. No warning on anything! The only thing I did wrong is trusting the compliments on Nextel in this category.

I am arguing with Amazon.com. I want my free long distance back, or returning the product with full refund.

I am still waiting to see ...

Again, take a second opnion when you look at Nextel

26 Good, but...
Right now nextel doesn't exactly cut it for me. I live/work/travel to many out of the way places and rarely did a nextel phone work where I am. If I had to reccomend a phone with direct connect- style capability, I would reccomend Motorola's v60p (on verizon) but if you're not looking for d/c... go with Sprint. You'll like Sprint's data service more.
27 Phone is good, service is bad!
I bought this phone back in dec 2002. It came with a rebate for $150. I filled out the forms and mailed it to Nextel, NEVER receiving the rebate! I called and they told me that there was nothing they could do. That if I called sooner they could have had me fill out another form. Well I waited so long because the form I filled out said wait a min of 12 weeks! Also they have been messing up my bill every month, charging me for minutes that should be in my plan, PLUS my plan has been changing. The phone is good however Nextel as a company is not the best.
28 NYC Nextel i90c
First of all Nextel service is great in New York City (except Staten Island). I get reception pretty much all the time, only when im in the subway do i lose reception.
As for the phone, I really enjoy it. I've made a few modifications to my phone with the help of an iden cable (around $10-$20) ideninsider.com and bubbasiden.com (both are free websites and give you information on how to add ringtones, make your keypad flash to your ringtones and a few other mods you can do)
Its a great phone w/ great features and i am very happy with it.
29 Wish it were color
Would be even better if the screen is color and bigger. But battery life is good.
30 ok for 2-way, but text messaging is a pain!
I had a Sony Ericsson phone before this with AT&T. Boy am I sorry I gave that up. Having switched over to be able to use 2-way feature, I could beat myself over the head. I hate this phone. I want my old one back. This thing is bigger and clutzier than my old phone. It has a maze of menus that are too time consuming to go through. I want to text message, with my old phone it was a breeze. With this it is so time consuming and cumbersome just to get through all the screens to actually be able to start typing, it's not worth the aggravation. I hardly text at all now. I am in a contract so I keep hoping Nextel will come out with some different phone options. It takes 10 different strokes to get to a screen to enter text to someone, and each press of a key, the phone has to wait for the network to respond, which sometimes takes a few minutes, sometimes the network isnt even available! So at 10 presses taking a few seconds each, it's hardly worth the irritation to get a text message out. It's a pain. Everyday I consider cancelling and paying the cancellation fee just to be done with it. I hate the phone every time I use it. I also loved the alarm clock on my old phone, with this Nextel phone, I had to pay about [money amount] to download an alarm clock from the web site, then discover it's also a pain to use. I have yet to figure out how to easily shut it off or set snooze. Once again there's no easy way. Did I mention I hate this phone.
31 REMEMBER YOUR FIRST LOVE? GREAT. NOW BUY THIS PHONE.
Every purchase decision should be this easy. Wireless phones just don't get much better than Motorola's fabulous i90c. If you want to waste your time playing video games, or download lots of annoying ring tones, or wow your friends with an array of interchangeable faceplates, there are plenty of mediocre models from which to choose. If you simply want one of the best wireless phones ever made, pick up an i90c. You'll appreciate it every time you make or receive a call. And the i90c is as gorgeous as it is great. This thing's so fine, it's practically orgasmic. Then again, it's just another phone. (Right. And Farrah Fawcett's just another actress.)
32 Handy and convenient
Great little phone. Light and easy to use. The best detail is the speakerphone feature.

My only complaint is that sometimes the volume on the repeat of the name you say for voice dialing is so low that you can't hear it.

33 Another great Nextel product
Nextel and Motorola have developed the ultimate "ultra cool, super sleek, power attitude, I am the man / I am the woman, great phone w/the i90. Not only does it have consistent great sound quality on calls, but the ability to quickly contact other Nextel friends or relatives with a single push of the Direct Connect button makes other phones "just another phone".
**By the way, the Direct Connect (2 way radio) is usable in FULLY PRIVATE mode by simply pressing 1 button. The speaker turns off, you hold the phone to your ear, you scroll to the name of the bud you wish to contact, you push the button to talk and release it to listen and NO ONE has to hear your fast Direct Connect conversation. All Nextel phones have the privacy button for Direct Connect. It makes voice mail such a waste of our time.
That is how I use mine all day at work in the office, I also keep mine on silent vibrate mode for totally discrete private use.
Look at any volunteer fireman/firewoman, construction person, cop, or young Jr High/HS kid in the Westchester/Dutchess/Rockland/Putnam County, NY region: you'll see a Nextel on their belt or in their hand. It is THE PHONE where I live.
Just try one. They have so many plans you will find one you like.
34 On my THIRD repair in two months
I received this phone and was please mostly with the speakerphone function. It is a bit larger than comparable units because of that, but was worth it to me. HOWEVER, two weeks into owning the unit, it started reading incompatible charger every time I plugged in any charger. I took it in for service who was less than helpful, but eventually repaired it on-site only after I told them to cancel the service. It worked for about a week, then it restarted and I had to return to Amazon.com (which I must say was helpful service over the phone). Now, the replacement is doing the same thing along with turning itself off periodically. I am about to call to arrange return of this phone as well.
35 Problems with reception, menu and some functions.
The phone seems to work well at times but poorly at other times. Incoming vioce fades in and out in my home. Outside of my home I often here echos or buzzing sounds in the background. The ringer doesn't work in the AM until I check the volume. It is always up but until I actually push the increase volume control the ringer stays silent. I was able to set it to vibrate so at least I can feel the first call of the morning just in case I forget to check the volume. The earphone is difficult to hear even with the volume at maximum. It is difficult to navigate around the menu. The message service tells my customers "You are being transfered to an automated ansewering system." This is annoying to callers who often hang up rather than wait for my message followed by the beep. Had I known this prior to signing up I would not have selected a Nextel as my cellular co..
36 Best easy to use business solution
Best choice for easy to use, compact, practical and simply put "common sense" solution to business minded professional.
I bought pair for my family and love it!
37 Poor battery life for an otherwise great phone
This is basically a feature-loaded phone, the coverage in SF bay area where I live is excellent, but when travelling it is no match for AT&T wireless (my wife has one from AT&T). My biggest complaint is that battery life is exceedingly poor - requires charging everyday if you talk a lot! That is a big lowdown. Coast-to-coast direct connect works great - still in rollout phase in some parts. speakerphone is excellent...
38 i90c torture
I have had my i90 for 18 months now and have tortured the heck out of the phone. I do traveling show(concert) production, and I absolutly love the phone and but after like 5 months i totally wore out the belt clip and the phone kept falling out, I should have stopped using it but I didnt. The phone fell off once, onto pavement underwater for 45min untill I found it, set the phone on a fan for the night and it powered up and worked fine. The kicker was when I dropped it while I was on truss 40 feet in the air, and a coworker turned it on and gave it back to me! But after numerous drops and abuse it shows its age but still works! Only problems is the reception isnt as good as my coworkers, and the charger will shut off the phone if I dont plug the connector in perfectly straight. Phones usually dont last me more than 6 months! Now this is one hellva phone. Another great motorola product!

46 Solid, reliable
The phone is a little chubby, but lets not forget its a phone and a walkie talkie. As far as battery life - Its solid. The reason it doesnt get DAYS of standby like other carriers is because the phone is always active on the system because of the instant walkie talkie. Phones on other carriers can "sleep" every few seconds then tune in, checking for a recieving call every 4-5 seconds. Nextel got it working well with no drawbacks.
47 Great phone
If your looking for a new cellphone this one is the way to go. It has tons of features but not lots of pointless ones like some phones have.
48 best phone out
i dont know what all of you geeks are talking about the menu's being hard to use,the menu's and everything arevery eazy to use all you need is COMMON SENSE.the only bad thing about the phone is the battery life, and if it bothers you that much buy the bigger battery it lasts much longer.

51 One of the better phones offered from Nextel
My Nokia 5190 with AT&T decided it wouldn't take a battery charge any longer. I decided to shop around, touch, sniff, tastte other carriers and phones. Which brings me to the i90c from Nextel... This phone is one of the smallest phones that Nextel has to offer. In the construction industry, 2-way radio communication via Nextel has almost become an industry standard. New laws are coming into affect, and the voice-activated dialing works great! Living in California, being a young 25 female, you'd want to look stylish. This phone has it all... small, light, blue back-lit screen, downloadable music tones, internet capable, 2-way direct connect features, and safe while you're driving. The only other feature that could make this phone better would be the color screen from the i95c. It's a trade off to have a smaller phone, but worth it. Just like any other new gadget, the screen navigation takes time to learn but it has become second nature.
52 Motorola i-90 cell phone
GREAT phone. Has a multitude of different functions and is easy to program and use. We ordered both the i-90 and the i-95cl which has a colored screen that is a little easier to read.
Very good product by Motorola. Nextel service = exceptional!
53 Great features but awful implementation
I really want to like this phone but honestly, I hate it. Our company has about 100 people using this phone and I think most of them hate it too. Why?

- its a brick pt I. Probably durable but its uncomfortable in your pocket. At 1.1 inches thick, you could beat someone with it.
- unintuitive interface. The phone has tons of features with lots of menus. Unfortunately, it feels like you have to slug through all of them to do anything. Saving a number takes way too many keystrokes. Figuring out how to change the ring took forever
- its a brick pt II. The phone is so big you need to wear it on your belt. And frankly, it looks dorky.
- poor battery life. My Nokia I used to charge every 3 days. The i90c I have to charge every day.
- sound/connection quality. While I do seem to get better than average quality with the Nextel service, I frequently need to dial calls twice to connect. I also get this strange echo pretty often as well.

I really want to like this phone. It has great features, a nice back lit display, a good color scheme and its web enabled. However, I just don't. Just about everything about it is slightly harder to use than it should be and manages to annoy me constantly.

54 Great Features; Poor Usability
Other reviewers here have raved about the features - and I agree, this phone has terrific features. This phone has been my work cell phone, and although it does much more than my personal Nokia 6120, after 5 months I still cannot get used to the user interface. The interface is non-intuitive. Navigation of menus is cumbersome and requires far too many button-pushes to get to any one feature. Even with styles and customizing menus to my preferences, it still is too cumbersome. The voice-activated dialing is a nice feature - when it works. Vehicle noise seriously restricts this capability - the one place where it is most important. Finally, although the blue-lit display is nice, the display itself is set so deeply into the shell of the phone that any shadows from bright light (inside or out...) makes it nearly unreadable. I am very frustrated with this phone - I want to take advantage of the features, but the usability is just not good enough to make using the phone second nature.
55 THE BEST RECEPTION EVER!
I JUST PURCHASED THE I90 ROXY SPECIAL EDITION THROUGH NEXTEL'S PREPAID SERVICE BOOSTMOBILE. I ALREADY HAVE A AT&T MOTOROLA T720 BUT I BARELY CAN USE IT BECAUSE OF POOR RECEPTION SO I DECIDED TO GET A 2ND PHONE SO THAT I CAN HAVE 2 PHONES SO I PURCHASED THE I90 TO USE WHEN I CANT GET ANY RECEPTION.. AND I MUST SAY THIS PHONE HAS THE BEST RECEPTION... IM NOT REALLY WORRIED ABOUT ALL THE EXTRA FEATURES I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO HOLD A DECENT CONVERSATION WITHOUT GETTING DROPPED CALLS. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PHONE THAT HAS EXCELLENT RECEPTION THE I90 IS THE PHONE TO GET.
56 Great phone over all
Both my wife and I have these phones and really like them. The only problem we have is trying to use the voice activation when the phone is closed -- the button is in an awkward place and can be tricky to do while driving and using the headset.
57 Okay Phone, Okay Service
...People in different areas, I'm sure will have different experiences...

I used to have Sprint PCS service and a Samsung phone, but had to switch since I couldn't get a signal in my house. ...

The Good:
Not much to really say - I'm trying to be as objective as possible... Despite it being a little bigger than other phones, it's got a nice look to it. The display is nice and bright - a bluish hue that even lights up the number pad.

The walkie talkie feature was pretty cool - for about a week.

The Okay:
I loved everything about the Samsung phone - it was small, had a long battery life (3+ days) and aside from not getting reception in my house, it was a great phone. This Motorola is okay, but there's a few things I dislike about it.

In some cases, it seems to be counterintuitive on the navigation buttons and even dialing 411 can be hit and miss. The battery life is not as long as my old phone: I'm lucky to get 2.5 days of straight stand by time. Further, the construction feels loose and cheap - almost a toy-ish feel.

When on calls, the sound is almost a throwback to the old cellular days, where there'd be apparent static and "echos" during conversations.

The Ugly:
The phone plans are ridiculously expensive. ...

58 i90c Review
For the most part this is a great phone. However, the battery life on this phone is not great. The features are great to use, expecially the speaker quiality. Also, The auto dial is great to use while on the road.
59 A great phone but too pricey
I ordered the Special Edition of thsi phone, and while i have been using it this week for the first time, I am very pleased with its features and ease of use. The buttons are just recessed enough and take just the right amount of pressure without the overkill needed of other phones to get it to do what you want. Stylish, and taking up a small amount of room, it has completely fit the bill as a much better phone upgrade than what I used before. The included beltclip also keeps the phone from getting in the way, and altogheter, the phone weighs very little on your hip.

The downfall with this phone is its price- other rate plans will offer a free or cheaper phone, and although this is the best of the 4 cells I have owned, I still can't shake the pricing of the unit itself. The car charger, not included, is another ... Why can't that be included? The wall charger does charge up the phone quickly, but can't be used everywhere you might need to charge.

Of course, the phone has Internet capability, and some basic programs to help you figure tips, calculate different things, and more, but additional downloads from the Nextel site shoudl be encouraged to get away from having the same ring as a room full of people, and for more helpful things like the weather radar or stock market tracking features.

Overall, a nice phone, but too expensive for 5 stars.

60 bad service from Naxtela nd Morola
I have had nothing but problems since I pruchased my new phone. I had service with Nextel for 2 years prior to upgrading to a new i90c phone and never had a problem. I had problems from setting up the new phone and plans to now the phone does not work. The phone was fine for about 5 to 6 weeks and then I lost signal. I would have cell and then it would be gone in the amount of 1 to 2 minutes. We contacted Nextel and they said that there was a problem with the signal in the area and then I got a voice mail saying they could not guarn. service in all areas. I took the phone to a store that was listed that could fix the phone. They told me that the phone could not be fixed and it would need to be sent back for a refurbished phone. I told them that would not work for me since the phone was only a month and a half old. We then did the door to door service and the first time the phone came back in 1 day and still did not work. We called Motorola and they said that it was not the phone it was a problem with Nextel's service. I contact Nextel and they did try to help, but it was not the service, it was the phone. So we called back Motorola and set up another door to door service and got the phone back again in 1 day. This time I have a refurbished phone. I called Motorola and they said that there would be now way to get my phone back and that this phone is just as good as the one I had. I told them that I did not spend the amount of money that I did for a used phone. You would not pay pull price for a used car. Why pay full price for a used phone. The answer I got was that "all the cell phone companies do it that way". I would not recommend anyone getting a Motorola phone or a service plan with Nextel. This experience has total turned me away from ever wanting to deal with Motorola or Nextel again. Now I have a used phone that did not work for someone else and now I have to deal with this phone not working in the future possible.
61 Great phone and service!
I did alot of research before going with Nextel, but the plan and the phone were the best on the market. They also only use their towers so there are never any roaming charges! The only warning I got was to watch my bill. That was good advice, because my first bill was almost $800 because they initially signed me up for the wrong plan! I got one of the friendliest and helpful customer service reps that not only made sure I was on the right plan but gave me 500 extra anywhere minutes for only $5 more a month! Not only did she back out the calls I had been charged for and put them under my plan, she gave me my phone for free for the inconvenience! What a deal! The phone itself has more than enough features, the reception and sound quality are fantastic! Needless to say I am now a loyal Nextel customer and nothing will change me unless they go under!
62 Nextel service is terrible
We selected Nextel for our new company because of their "direct connect" and free incoming features. Unfortunately, the "direct connect" feature is awful. To use it, you have to actually hold down the talk button on the phone (like a walkie talkie) and can't talk until you hear two beeps; the first beep confirms that the other end has completed their sentence and released their button, and the second beep (when you hold down your button) indicates that it's now your turn to talk. Imagine trying to have a conversation with 2 beeps between every sentence! To make matters worse, if both parties hold down the talk button at the same time, you get a long loud beep; warning you that it's not your turn to talk. This may be fine for a contractor in the field using the speaker phone feature, but we are in an office environment so we can't use the speaker phone feature. Having all those beeps going off in your ear is very uncomfortable. Also, typical conversations take 2-3 times as long to complete and requires one hand on the phone at all times to push on the talk button (so much for hands free talking, typing or driving). After 1 month of trying this "direct connect" system, we just trashed it and went back to calling each other and using up our minutes. We should have gone with AT&T, Cingular & other "family talk" plans where you talk to each other using the regular phone service.

The i90c is a great phone but for the short battery life. My old i60 from Tmobile needed charging every 4-5 days. I have to charge the i90c every day!

63 The Most Amazing Phone I've Ever Used
I've had an ericsson and a few nokias in the past, so moving up to a motorola was a shock to see how nice the phone is. I've never used any other motorola, so i don't have anything to compare it to, but this phone is amazing. The battery life is the longest i've ever seen... even with talking on speakerphone, using direct connect, and surfing the web it lasts for a good three days usually. the blue glow is sexy, and it looks nice too. the quality is amazing, great antenna i guess. also the net features are really easy to use.
64 Terrible customer service
I have to say that Nextel has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. The phone worked OK, and coverage was good for my area (SF Bay), but I won't get another Nextel product due to the response of their customer service department. I made about 6-8 calls to that department, and never once did they get my request for billing changes, service changes, or anything else right. They also refused to let me cancel my contract (according to terms stated on the contract) and denied having received faxed copies of the contract or having talked with me before about it. I'll certainly want to deal with another company in the future.
65 It bounced!
I was initally reluctant to get such a "high-tech" phone since I am extremely hard on electronics. The included carrier belt clip is too small for a duty belt (Motorola shrunk their clips about five years back) and won't lock in on a belt over 1 1/2" without a lot of effort. As such, the phone got knocked off my belt and flew about 5 feet. I was sure I would be picking up pieces. Apart from a nick on the plastic antenna, the phone is fine. I still have faith in Motorola's quality. Features are all there (I dont use voice dialing) and the speakerphone is the best I have heard from such a small unit. Nextel will chew up battery life more than other brands due to the way it polls towers and keeps you logged into the network but the talk and standby time are great for the size of the unit. I'm not too wild about the way the charger clips in so I bought an aftermarket desktop charger and avoided the whole issue. A good product overall. I would like to have gone with 4.5 stars (the clip is sturdy but not suitable for my use) but 4.5 doesn't exist so I erred in Motorola's favor.
66 Great Phone!
This phone is the best phone! It has great features and great service in the boston area.
67 Low down dirty battery time
Pro's
smallest of Nextel's Flip models
Direct Connect (will save cellular minutes if other party has Nextel)
Blue Light
Easy Menu

Con's
Battery life is minimal last about 45-60mins tops. Bring a charger
Coverage in West Hollywood was bad and forget calling the boss if you are in the canyon. I had to use my friend's t-mobile phone to call in late.
high priced plans.

68 Great compact phone.
I have had this phone for about 3 months now and really like the style. It is stubby and a little weighty on the hip, but works well, is rugged in design, clips securely to the case, and has worked very well. Some notes:
1) Battery Life - leaves much to be appreciated, about a days worth of light talk and standby use. Heading out again without charging will leave you stranded with a dead battery the next day. I upgraded to an aftermarket FatBoy battery that increases the weight, but allows about 3-4 days of average use.

2) Styles - easily change from customizable ring tones, vibrate, backlight duration, message alerts, etc. I have narrowed mine down to 3 options: car, belt, and quiet with appropriate settings for each environment and this seems to work well for most situations.

3) Navigation - I think could be a little easier but once you calibrate the phone to your liking, you rarely have to get to other settings anyway.

4) Voice Activated Dialing - flawless for me so far. Once you say who you want to call, it repeats the matched voiceprint so that you can cancel before it calls the wrong number.

5) Speakerphone - so far no one has said "Hey do you have me on speakerphone?", so I think the quality is good. You can make calls with the push of one button, with the phone closed, just by pushing 1 of 2 buttons on the top and speaking the name. This is great for the car.

6) Rebates - after meticulously getting all the requirements filled, getting all the rebates took no less than 5 emails and 3 calls to Nextel. Each time I got the "your rebate should appear on your next bill", but it never did. When I called back, "we are sorry, it is fixed now, will be on your next bill". 3 months later, finally..the rebate promised on the first bill finally shows up. Amazon.com's rebate service was a little easier to manage, but still more of a hassle than necessary. Im not sure, but I still may be missing one rebate. In all the hassle, I lost track of who sent me what.

Overall, I think the phone is great. You may have to invest in a bigger battery or a portable charger (the cheap aftermarket ones on auction sites have worked perfectly). The phone is compact and durable and has good functionality.

69 terrible interface and battery life
I've had this phone for a year now and I can tell you that it is one of the worst phones I've had. I loved it the first month because it was cool but the daily annoyances of the phone drove me crazy. The interface doesn't make any sense at all and you must use multiple key strokes to do simple funtctions like switching to vibrate mode. Motorola needs to take a look at samsung phones. You don't even need a manual to use it.

Also, because Nextel service is power hungry, your battery will need to be charged daily. This is not a function of the phone so much as the service. There isn't away around this one. Unless you have a real need to use Direct Connect, don't get Nextel. Service is poor outside of cities.

70 Poor Design of Motorola i90c
If you don't need the Direct-Connect from Nextel stay clear of this phone. It has hard to learn menues, tiny screen, poor backlight and battery life in standby. Menues are almost impossible to remember, one has to go through very intricate menu system just to add a name and number, 11 character name support only. Most first last name entries do not fit. The display screen is very small, aproximately 1.1" by 1.1". With the phone open the screen is almost impossible to see at night or bright sunlight by someone with 20/20 vision. I could only imagine how hard it must be to see by people with not so perfect vision. Battery life is something to be desired. I dies very fast on standby. I haven't had a chance to test the battery life during use. I am very thankful that my employer furnished this phone, if I got it by myself I would have been very dissapointed. I would recommend the Samsung S105 from T-Mobile instead of the i90c if you don't need the Dirrect-Connect option from Nextel.
71 Good, But Could Be Better (and works in L.A.)
First, to respond to the guy who says don't get it if you live in L.A. - Every city has weak spots. My apartment in Seattle gets a great Nextel signal, but when I had AT&T, I had major problems with dropped calls there. When I go to L.A. the only weak spot I've encountered so far (and I go all over L.A. and Orange County on business or visiting family) is at my father-in-law's place in the Northeast San Fernando Valley hills.

My biggest gripe is that the phone book has an 11 character limit on the name of the person. Unless everyone you know has short names like Bill Smith and Mark Jones, you're going to have to abbreviate names, some of which you might not want to abbreviate.

Beyond that, the sound is great, the battery life is about what it's rated (75 hours standby *or* 200 mins talk), and I love the free long distance and no roaming charges anywhere on the nationwide Nextel network (plus British Columbia, I think). My home phone long distance bill is zero a month despite my wife and I both being the only ones from our families living in this state. And unlike the high per-minute roaming charges AT&T and T-Mobile (formerly VoiceStream) charged me when I had similarly-priced plans, I never pay roaming when my wife and I go visit our parents, which is really helpful because we had a lot of trips to plan our wedding down there and used the cell constantly as we rushed from appointment to appointment.

72 i90c Review
The i90c phone is very functionable for me. It's small enough to throw in my purse or leave on my desk at work. What I like best about the phone is the Voice Record function. When driving all I have to do is say the name of whom I want to call, leaving the cover closed and this activates the speaker and the phone dials the number. I don't have to take my eyes off the road to call out on my phone. I just have to start talking when the connection is completed. The clarity of the speaker is amazing and I've been told the other party has no problem hearing me. With my nights and weekends I can call my out of state sister and talk up to 3 hours at a time and I use the speaker and lay the phone done and can move around the room and do other things at the same time. I love it.
Over all - the phone is very user friendly.
73 Awesome Phone! - Horrible Battery life!
The features on this phone are amazing, from the polyphonic ring tones, to the embedded java capabilities! The ONLY thing I can say about this phone that is BAD, is that the battery life is absolutely HORRIBLE. I get 2 days stand by, and that's if I don't use the phone. On a side note, Motorola's have always had horrible battery life, and thus this phone is no different. Aftermarket batteries are available...
74 Good Service, Excellent phone
I switched from horrible T-Mobile to Nextel almost a year ago, and immediately noticed the great reception Nextel had. In places where I almost didn't get any signal at all with T-Mobile, I got a perfect Signal from Nextel. I started off with the i1000 Plus which is a good phone but I recently upgraded to the i90c. The service in Nextel is great but I was amazed the signal this little phone was able to grab. The i90c had 3 or 4 signal bars in places where my other phone (i1000) was able to grab 1 or 2. The web enabled applications are great, I can check my AOL mail, logg into AIM, Recieve and send out Instant Messaging, and check different kind of web sites without any problem. I can download different kind of ring tones from the nextel website right into my phone, as well as download different games. The size is just right for me, and the carry holster makes it easy to carry, as well as easy to remove and put back in. Nextel's rate plans are even getting better, with the new breakthrough 10,000 plan everything is unlimited plus 1000 weekday minutes. The Direct Connect is great, with clear service and all around great for keeping in contact, nationwide Direct Connect is now available in the ny area and will be available nationwide by the middle of this year. There are different fuctionalitys in this phone that will fit your needs all around. GET THIS PHONE!! And just a note to all, Nextel considers anything over 2000 minutes "unlimited" meaning that even if you go over your minutes you won't be charged at all (i.e. If I have 4,500 N & W Minutes and i got over that, I will not get charged). Again get this phone!!!
75 Finally a cell phone that works!!
Well after trying Verizion, T-Mobil, etc. over the years and using various makes and shapes of phones and never getting anything I was even close to being happy with, I switched to the Motorola i90c and Nextel a few months ago. The clarity is superb, the coverage in areas which were "dead spots" on every other carrier is teriffic. The speaker phone option is excellent, again great clarity. The phone has several other great options, but for the first time (for me) I have a phone that fulfills is primary purpose, one can make a stong, clear call, with the sound quality of "land line" phone. In 3 months I've had only 3 "dropped" calls. A miracle when compared to previous phones and services. FYI, my primary use are is the South of Boston, MA metro area.
76 Do not get this phone if you live in L.A.
I've had this phone for 7 months now and I love all the features, but the reception is just TERRIBLE!! The title reads "Do not get this phone if you live in L.A." because I also travel up to Seattle area and the phone works awesome up there. I got this phone because of their "Free Incoming Call" plan, which I really like because I use about 1,000 to 1,200 minutes per month.

I like this phone, but the call quality in terms of clarity and reception is the worst. I've had Verizon prior to this and the difference in call quality is like night and day. My office is on 9th floor and you would think that I would get a decent reception, but it is by far the worst. You know how annoying it is when I get a call and it drops and I tell people that I was up in my office and they all say, "But you're on 9th floor?"

Also, don't get this phone thinking you're going to save a lot of money because you think you can do all your communication through Direct Connect. Please don't get the wrong idea. It is a very good feature, but unless you work in a environment where everyone uses Nextel, you will grow tired of it. It's good for relaying short informations, but I got tired of using it after a while and pretty much quit using it nowadays.

77 The i90c....its a wonder.
The i90c is an ok phone...not nearly as advanced as its counterparts with the color screens and "technological" advancements... However, its much nicer than Nextel's "old" phones and has some games on the handset and is lightweight for a Nextel. The face does get scratched easily and the Nextel insignia rubs off..this is a bummer...makes it look used. However, the reception is always great and menu is easy to use. I like mine and would keep it if I still liked Nextel.
78 Is Motorola workmanship slipping?
This is the fifth cell phone I•À?ve purchased over the years. My first was the large gray Motorola with the flip down mouthpiece. In order, after that first phone, came a Nokia, Motorola StarTac and Ericsson. All of the phones listed were of quality construction. The only negatives were either size or service/reception issues. The one exception being the awful software interface on the Ericsson T28, which is a disappointment as it is a wonderfully slim size. Now I•À?ve had to return this Motorola i90c and am awaiting an exact replacement in the hopes that my problem is a fluke but it doesn•À?t look good. The reason it doesn•À?t look good is because my business partner just ordered the same phone and has the same problem but to a lesser degree. So, what•À?s the problem you ask?

The hinge that holds the two pieces of the phone together allows for too much play (movement). When I grasp the phone, the flip screen moves laterally in my hand. When I open the phone the center hinge cover pulls away from the body of the phone and I can still move the screen laterally way too much. Still in possession of my StarTac, I compared the build quality and was disappointed with another issue. The plastic housing of the i90c is not nearly as solid as that of the StarTac, which makes the i90c feel like a child•À?s toy. However, Motorola•À?s software interfaces along with Nextel•À?s direct connect ...Chris

79 The Best Thing Yet!
I've used many cell services and I keep coming back to Nextel because of the Dirct Connect feature. If you don't need that, it may be a bit pricey. The i90c is the best phone I've owned of theirs (my 3rd one). Plenty small enough for me. I had a smaller T-Mobile phone and just had a hard time handling it at times. Easy to lose too. The voice recorder on this phone is amazing. MUCH better than any PDA I've owned. The only drawback I would have with this phone is that I think the screen could be a tad brighter. The bright blue on the numbers are great. Voice quality on the external speaker is also better than that of the i1000 and i55sr, two nice phones in their own right. Devoted Netxtel lovers and convertees should be very happy with this phone.
80 Excellent phone!!
This is an excellent phone!! As a matter of fact, I have another one, still in the box, sealed.
81 Good and Bad Features
The good news! The date book feature eliminated the use of my PDA. You can set appointments and the i90 will alarm you when you want to be alarmed. It is getting smaller by Nextel standards but still is heavy. The voice dialing is a feature that just is not used by me because it does not perform as well as some Qualcomm phones I have owned. Illuminated display is good. The bad. It is not as easy to navigate as the old i1000. You have to push buttons, flip open the cover etc. to get to desired locations. i1000 was easy to dial as cell or connect with two way. this i90 phone is far more difflicult to navigate. Service is expensive. I would stay with cheap cell service unless you absolutely need the two way direct. Wait until they come out with an updated phone. This is like windows me, a fancy upgrade with little valuable tools save for the date book.
82 Great deal with Nextel!
This phone is a huge step up from the standard Nokia phone I used to have. This phone has so many fun features, it's small (but not too small) and the blue backlighting is pretty cool! This is the best deal on a Nextel phone that I have ever seen and I wanted a Nextel because my dad has one and I always admired his phone and it's features. With [the] rebates on this phone it's a great time to BUY!!!
83 Customer Service???
I have tried 3 other service providers over the past 3 years and Nextel and the i90 phone is by far the best service I have had for quality of the phone, call reception, depth of services, and price. BUT... if you have a problem (I had one with billing) patience is required. After two customer service reps said they were putting me on hold - they actually hung up on me. I called back a third time and immediately asked for a manager who finally got my problem fixed. Total time - 1 hour.
84 It's Really not That Bad......
Let's preface this by typing that it is a really good phone...... I just don't like that dark, menacing color. But there are a good many choice of ring types and you can personalize your phone to your own settings. I didn't like the vibration option of the phone. It doesn't vibe very hard. I used to own a Motorola Timport (the silver one). That bad boy vibrated STRONG!! But this is still a good phone. It's not worth the [cost], but it's a good phone.
85 Fantastic for the small/large business or the large family!
We first got Nextel service for our family winery after trying several different services. Nextel was the only company offering EXCELLENT coverage in our area. Now direct connect...even better. Because it's only one-way-at-a-time communication, it doesn't require as much bandwidth...so if you're in an area that you can't get out on a cell call, DirectConnect can still get out. I origionally had the i1000plus phone, and it lasted for 13 months. I'm hard on small electronics, going through a cell phone every 1-6 months. I'm looking forward to how the i90 will last with me. Great menus. Great phone...oh, and did I mention, it's blue backlights...tres cool.
86 Nextel Customer Service is horrible
Nextel has the worst customer service. I have called them several times and talked with numerous service reps. I have asked to talk to supervisors and asked for call backs and have never recieved one. Nextel needs to start to care about their customers they have now rather than trying to get more customers. I have three phones and have been talking to them on and off for months and still nothing with my bill has been taken care of. I bought three i90s and was suppose to recieve them at a reduced cost and when I got my first bill I had the wrong plans and I was overcharged for the phones. Nextel is terrible.
87 Product is good but nextel.....
well, I90C phone is great. But nextel customer service is terrible.
I was on hold more than over hour for mumber of times .
Nextel needs to have better way to service.
88 I Love this phone
This phone is one of the best phones i have ever had!!! I would recommand this phone to all my friends! The reception is always clear and is hardly ever not clear! It has so many features,i dont know were to start. The Java application are the best and the voice activating dialing is da bomb!!The ring tones almost sound like really music, theya re soo kewl!If you are thinking about buying this phone,BUY IT! It will be the best thing you bought in a long time!!!This phone is the Best!
89 Phone ok ,Nextel bad company
The phone was Ok but not alot of service in Maine. The problem is with the company. If you get this phone or any phone from nextel you better hope you like it. I have been trying to cancel my service for 2 days. Over 1 hr on hold with no one answering. I did this 5 times now. As a matter of fact I'm on hold right now and have been for 1.5 hrs. This company Su....ks!
90 Nextell phone
I rate this Motorola i90c phone (Nextel) a 5 star because of its special feature the speaker phone, this comes in handy when you need someone else to be there and listening and also someone else can hear and talk beside you.

91 Great Nextel service, pretty good phone
The service is great, a lot less drops than any other cell company (no Hello, Hello are you there?; when you hear the other person and they can't hear you or vice-versa!) The only grip with Direct Connect, you need to be in your home area to use it. You can't travel and DC to anyone else where you're at. I thought it was just a milage limitation. Nextel needs simplier documentation. Especially with the new Breakthrough 10,000 plan which is great, but some places, like here on Amazon, it states unlimited N&W and DC, but some Nextel stores and sites say 5,000 N&W and 4,000 DC which makes sense since it is 10,000 plan. We'll see with the 1st bill.

The phone is cool if you like somewhat bulky phone, but it's durable and you need worry less about losing it. Great speakerphone and voice activated-dialing. Battery life is the bad thing about this phone if you're use to 4-7 day charges on Nokia phones. This phone lasts at most 2 days. But the service makes up for it and it does have a lot of features, so maybe that's draining the charge.

92 It's a phone
I am a die hard Motorola phone user. But all I have to say about this phone - besides that it does all that it is supposed to do well - is that the battery life really kills it.

If it lasted like a startac, it would be one of teh best out there though.

93 good phone
this is a nice phone. Although I do think it is a bit pricy for the phone the features are pretty sweet. If you just need a phone for 2 way paging get the cheaper model. But if you nee the phone for minutes and 2 way get the 190 the service is good. I like the fact that I dont have to pay and nation wide long distance and the the 2 way radio is unlimiteed

The phone is brick. Which is a good thing. I can drop it and drop it and it does not effect the phone. So of the features on the phone I dont really use. Such as the memo. But it i do like the fact that it has a good speaker phone that part I love also the voice notes I like those.

No complaints about the phone excpect that it could be a littel cheaper. Dont use every benifit the phone has to offer but thats just me.

But the phone its worht some people dont like the clunky ness of it but i dont seem to mind.

94 Great phone...Great Nextel...Great Amazon
I tried sorry T-mobil (w/ spiffy V66) and switched to Nextel. I feared the bulky i90c (compared with the Barbi slim V66) and I'm very pleased. First, I want to say how fabulous Amazon.(com) has been with me. They have been a model company with exceptional customer service and not one of the more than 10 people that helped me was less than great. Second, I am very pleased with my i90c. Why?:
1)It fits my palm wonderfully. A little portly, but that must be due to the speaker for the speakerphone which I LOVE!
2)You'd think the speakerphone was designed by BOSE because the sound is so great!
3)THREE WAY CALLING! I can conference with my two great sisters, my two best friends, my girlfriend and my parents (who'd almost rather talk to her!),....
4)I don't have to have the phone open to make a call.
5)The voice recorder is great! I can use it for anything from recording a reminder to some new melody or lyrics I'm suddenly inspired with to compose,....
6)The datebook is great for reminders,
7)The Direct Connect is great! I never thought I'd use it that much.
8)The external buttons are sturdy so they don't get pressed by accident.
9)The inside LCD is large
10)The phone book is real easy to use
11)The message screen is great

What I wish it had:
A)differential rings for specific callers (ability to have a specific ring for a specific caller)
B)Infrared port to beam to computer or PDA

I'm very pleased with Nextel. Good customer service, easy to get a person on the phone. Good reception and plan being that I live in both Ann Arbor and Mt Pleasant, MI. Even though it's a bit pricier than other carriers, I find the hassel-free worth every penny.

95 Soooo many features!
I purchased my i90c for its impressive feature list, since it matches well with my gadget-crazed personality. It's fairly large and won't be fitting into your front shirt pocket.

Belt holster - the phone snaps into the belt holster (which twists, thank you Moto) securely so it cannot fall off. With a simple thumb motion you release and flip the phone open. Great design.

Here's a list of my favorite features thusfar:

Themes - a grouping of settings for a particular location. Set the car theme to loud ring, voicemail notification, etc then vibrate only for like a theater or business meeting them. Much better than scrolling through ringer settings for twenty minutes.

Speakerphone - fantastic quality, doesn't contain the traditional speakerphone echos. Most friends are not aware I'm using it (unless I'm driving, speaker + driving = noise central).

Web-downloadable address book - nice touch, I can change business contacts info online using keyboard rather than search-and-peck phone typing.

Java-apps - I downloaded a chess game for my phone, plus MSN messenger, and a grocery list keeper.

Voice-activated dialing - make calls while the phone's closed. I say, "Call Dean at home" then it dials and puts me into speaker mode, opening the phone converts to a private call (or use earbud). Making calls (while it's closed) without removing from my belt holster - sooo convenient.

Checking external emails - my i90c alerts me when I've got work or home email (and let's me preview).

Web browsing - only six lines but that's plenty for catching my daily weather forecast, stocks, and headline news while riding the train into work. Favorites, shortcuts... you can customize your homepage too!

Voice memo recording (three minutes), text memo, datebook, two-way messenging, call timer tracking, forwarding, and the list goes on. That's all of my review, time to play a game of chess with some guy in Chicago on my i90c! I'll win this time, I promise.

96 Great Phone - Full Equipped and Easy To Use!
I bought this phone after canceling with T-moblie because of bad signal reception. I had a Motorola v60g with T-moblie.

This phone is far better than the V60's. It's bigger, but not too big, a good size.

It's packed with tons of features, everything you would need...

GREAT signal strength with Nextel..totally great. Direct connect is so cool. Its unlimited in my plan so I use it for fun too ;)

PROS:
1. Long battery life
2. Good reception
3. Direct connect is awesome!!
4. Tons of features
5. Great ringtones - add more with a data cable ... instructions ...under the Nextel forum

CONS:
1. little bigger than my v60 but not too big - dont make this a reason not to buy the phone, trust me.
2. Price - A little steep,...

I highly recomend this phone. Thanks motorola :)

97 Great phone
The phone is great! It is light weight and very compact. It has great featutes such as a built-in calculator, phonebook and datebook, yet it is so small. I highly recommend it.
98 I have become a loyal Nextel user
I have been with Nextel for almost a year and my only complaint I have on the phone is the battery life. You will need to charge the battery daily. This is under normal usage. I have invested in a car charger and extra battery. I have occasionally had a dropped call, but not the norm when using the phone. I do agree with a previous reviewer that some the other phones have better reception. Wish it had different ring tones. Minor point.
Now what I like about the phone. .... Speaker phone is incredible! An example, I was at a friend's house and the phone was on the kitchen counter. I walked into the next room and heard my friend's wife start talking on the speaker phone. Through force of habit I said "hold on" and she said "hurry up". I was 25 to 30 feet away from the phone, no joke! Works great in cars also ...... provided window are rolled up.
A complaint I read was that the phone clips into the cradle backwards. I actually like this feature. Keeps the screen from getting scratched up. Besides there are two buttons on top of the phone. When someone calls you can hit one and it is on speaker phone and just start talking. If you hit the other button it goes straight to voicemail. If you are screening calls just pop it out of the cradle. Do not look at this as an inconvenience.
The phone pretty much has the standard bells a whistles in all other respects and the other reviews comment s cover other aspects of the phone. One other thing .... I heard Nextel's direct connect feature will be nation wide first quarter of 2003. I ask a rep at Nextel about this rumor and she said she could not confirm a date, but they are working on it.
99 i90cl
Looking for Nextel's smallest full-featured phone? The Nextel i90c combines cellular, two-way radio, speakerphone, paging, and internet capabilities all into one lightweight, clamshell-like flip phone. The i90c boasts a sleek new look without sacrificing functionality. Before buy find the best deal on net, check out cellphone guide hellocalls.com.
100 Cool phone if you can keep it powered up.
I switched to Nextel after AT&T did not seem interested in keeping up with the jones in the area of new technology. I had a 2.5 year old mitsu t250 which was the most advanced phone they offered. I ordered 2 i80 phones first, I found the 65+ ours of stand by was more like 20~24. So I was told the I90c would be better, it was by a few hours, maybe 36. a far cry from the advertised 75. talk time is not bad, I don't think it is close to 200mins, but with nextels prices who could afford to test that.
The phone itself is great, nice features, I like the vib/ring option where the phone will vibrate twice and then ring. Java Apps are cool(I don't use them) I do use the feature that lets you records parts of your calls.
Overall if you get a desktop charger and a second battery it is a great phone.

Quote of the Day:

We rarely find anyone who can say he has lived a happy life, and who,

content with his life, can retire from the world like a satisfied guest.

Q: What does friendship among Soviet nationalities mean?
A: It means that the Armenians take the Russians by the hand; the
Russians take the Ukrainians by the hand; the Ukranians take
the Uzbeks by the hand; and they all go and beat up the Jews.
