1 Here's to all the Gonzo fans!
This "newer" Muppet film is great. Lots of people feel that the muppets have lost a considerable amount of spunk since Jim Henson's death. However, this movie is really cute since it puts Gonzo in the forefront, with Dave Goelz (Gonzo's origial muppeteer) continuing to provide Gonzo with his wonderfully eccentric personality. Finally, a muppet movie that allows the gradual transition of many of the Henson-era characters to the background and gives the spotlight to the newer characters. I'd much rather see more of Rizzo, Pepe and that giant Bear (along with Gonzo and his original muppeteer) than watch new muppeteers try to fill Henson's and Oz's shoes with Kermit and Fozzie.
The movie has a fabulous soundtrack of old R&B songs from Earth, Wind & Fire, James Brown, etc. My daughter loves the music. Though I loved the old muppet movies with original songs, I appreciate that the Henson organization chose to try a new approach. I thought the music was great!
Gonzo's search for his ancestry, and ultimate discovery that he's from outer space, offers a wonder of dialouge and jokes. Jeffery Tambor is phenomenal as the evil Covnet employee searching for aliens. This is a great movie for kids. My daughter is 2 and she loves it. And I find myself retelling some of the jokes and lines of dialouge to my husband. I highly recommend this one.
2 Great Family Fun
I absolutely loved this entertaining muppet adventure. Great for the entire family.
3 This hilarious film is truly out of this world
Muppets From Space (not to be confused with the original Muppet Show's Pigs in Space) is one terrific movie. The Muppets redefine themselves on the cutting edge of entertainment, put together a film of nonstop action and hilarity, pull off a rather touching ending, impart an important lesson about life to children as well as adults, and really bring their own special magic to the viewing audience. Feature films permit the Muppet universe to expand in altogether new ways. For one thing, you get to see full-body shots of Muppets doing extraordinary things (rather than having to settle for the old above the waist only shots). More significantly, in relation to this movie, there are some pretty good special effects that really make the Muppet world seem more believable than ever. All of the Muppets look great, and some relatively newer characters are nothing short of hilarious (Pepe the Prawn in particular).

Muppets From Space centers around Gonzo, the little guy with the big nose and no real history. He's tired of being a one-of-a-kind creature and yearns to know where he came from. First things first, though. The film opens with the start of a new day in the Muppet house; everyone gets up out of bed and quickly gets down with their bad selves to the funky music of "Brick House." The Muppets have definitely found the funk, and this makes for a really happening, memorable soundtrack. Just when Gonzo is really down about being alone in the world, he receives a communication from outer space (via his alphabet-shaped breakfast cereal). Soon, he is convinced that he is an alien and, what is more, he claims his alien family is on its way to earth. A certain secret agency picks up signs of the aliens and comes after Gonzo, thinking he can tell them what the aliens want and where they will land. The leader of this secret group, played by Jeffrey Tambor, is a little bit out of his mind, and Gonzo falls right into his pending trap by showing up at the local news studio to announce that the aliens are coming. The other Muppets don't really believe Gonzo's claims, but they are eager to help rescue him when he falls into the evil clutches of the Men in Black. The conclusion of the movie is a real hoot indeed, delivering a close encounter of the truly unique kind.

All of the Muppet characters are great; Kermit and Miss Piggy don't get as much screen time as usual, but that may well be a good thing. Gonzo and his roommate Rizzo the Rat (another fantastic, relatively new character) are more than capable of carrying the movie by themselves - of course, they don't have to do it alone because many of the Muppets play important parts. Pepe the Prawn absolutely steals the show, if you ask me; he may be the funniest Muppet yet created. As usual, a number of famous stars make cameo appearances in the film, including Andie MacDowell, Ray Liotta, F. Murray Abraham, Kathy Griffin, Hollywood Hogan (as his NWO self), and an always annoying David Arquette. Kids as well as adults should love this movie. Older viewers will appreciate some of the subtle nods to popular culture; for example, you will find parallels to big movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek, Men in Black, Independence Day, and The Shawshank Redemption.

This is as funny and enjoyable a Muppet movie as you will find. Don't let the kids get all of the enjoyment out of Muppets From Space, though; there are plenty of things incorporated into the plot and script to make adults smile and laugh, as well.

4 CLASSIC
this is such an unexpected movie. This is my kind of humor. Its definetly worth watching, especially if you are a muppets fan.
5 My favorite Muppets movie!!!
After being disappointed by Muppets Treasure Island (which had so much potential) we were reluctant to see this movie. What a pleasant surprise! This movie is really fun, funny, and the soundtrack rocks. This movie turmed my significant other into a muppet lover. We love the MST2K version with the muppet commentary too. Lots of neat extras. No disappointments!
6 Lacking some of the Henson Magic, but still a lot of fun.
This movie has some big shoes to fill. The original Muppet Movie, Muppets Take Manhattan, The Muppet Christmas Carol and the Muppet take on Treasure Island are classics in my mind. Muppets from Space ranks about fourth of the six, but these are six films at the top of the list of all time favorites. This film holds more tru to the earlier films, where our favorite fuzzy friends play themselves and the cameos fly fast and furious. Gonzo (The Whatever) decides that he is tired of being the only Muppet that is specialy challenged. A series of dreams and a sequence lifted directly from Contact help him to realize that he is actually from ?Out there?. Not only that, but his family is finally ready to come get him. From here the movie does what Muppet films do best- Vaudeville type gags and pop culture references that sometimes fly over children?s heads, but help keep parents entertained. I originally saw this film with my wife, brother, sister in law and 6 year old niece. We adults (all raised on The Muppets on TV and at the movies) laughed longer, harder and more often than the moppet. References to contemporary science fiction films and TV series abound and are among the more clever gags peppered through the movie. Be sure to keep an eye open for a reference to Brent Spiner?s appearance in ID4 once Kermit and friends get into the secret lab. It?s a riot. The ending of the film is the only place it really misfires. It can be seen from a mile off and we all knew what would happen before we even entered the theater. Bu that?s OK. We need the happy ending for the kids. The first 90 minutes were for us.
7 Okay movie... fantastic DVD!
Not the best of the Muppet movies but not the worst either, "Muppets From Space" is an enjoyable comedy that finally answers the age-old question, "Just what the heck is Gonzo, anyway?" Some of the older Muppets, like Piggy and Fozzie, take a back seat in this one while we get more of a spotlight on Rizzo and Pepe -- but Gonzo still steals the show in this flick. My biggest complaint about the movie itself has to be the music -- no new Muppet songs! All of the songs they sing are old rock n' roll, which is all well and good, but when I see the Muppets, I want to hear new music as good as "Rainbow Connection" and Together Again."

The great DVD makes up for the small inadequacies of the film, though. Unlike SOME Muppet DVDs, this disc has both fullscreen AND the far superior widescreen versions (are you listening, Disney?), plus a bevy of extras including deleted scenes, music videos and a fantastic commentary track. Not only is director Tim Hill joined by Kermit, Gonzo and Rizzo for the commentary, but they all appear as "shadows" at the bottom of the screen, not unlike an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's a great technique, and I'd love to see it done more often (especially with movies like this), although I do wish that turning this feature on didn't disable the subtitles. I usually watch subtitles when I have a commentary on to compensate for the diminished volume of the movie itself.

All in all, probably the best Muppet DVD there is. Fans should love it.

8 Biggest Surprise Ever
I grew up watching Muppet Movies and even saw the "Muppet Christmas Carol." I've always liked the Muppets. However, let's face it. Someone says Muppets and you instinctivly think kid's movies. "Muppets in Space," was the exception.
I first saw it when I was over at a friends apartment in college and a bunch of people wanted to watch it. I was initially confused as to why a bunch of 20-year-olds would want to watch a Muppet movie. I quickly found out why. This movie is hilarious! Why still being a movie for kids, the writers filled this movie with sophisticated humor that entertains adults as well.
I was happy to see that the focus was finally taken off Kermit. Don't get me wrong, he's still the original Muppet. But this movie proved who the real star of the crew is. The Shrimp. I forget his name, but my gosh is he hilarious. Watch as he delivers the best line in the movie, "You do that. And I will smack you. I will smack you like a bad bad donkey." The way it's done leaves people rolling.
All I can say is give this movie a chance. Even if you've forgotten about the Muppet movies or passed them off as kids films. You'll adore this one and quickly add it to your collection.
9 THE best!!!
There is not a Muppet move that I don't own, and this is by far one of (if not) the best. We watch it over and over again with our 15 month old. It is incredibly entertaining for all of us, and has some good one-liner's for adults. It's just AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME - mark my words!
10 A dvd for adults and kids
I remember when I was little I used to watch this movie all the time with my parents. I'm glad it's on DVD now so I can watch it with my little sister. The Muppets were great back then and now. It's not as great as the other Muppet movies, but this one is still definitely worth watching and having.
11 NOT AS GOOD AS FIRST FIVE MUPPET FILMS, BUT STILL GREAT!
Jim Henson was a creative genius. What more can I say? No, MUPPETS FROM SPACE does not have the famed Gonzo as Gonzo the Great. Nor does it have the majesty of the previous five movies with Kermit & the gang.

I have no doubt that Henson would have done this film differently. But, unfortunately, he isn't around anymore. However, his legacy isn't dead. People in his company are continuing to produce great stuff. This is highly evident by MUPPETS TONIGHT (I loved that show and never understood why it was taken off the air. All it is is an updated MUPPET SHOW), the continued popularity of SESAME STREET, the current Elmo craze, Muppetfest!, and new muppet feature films.

His vision is still alive. His muppets are still as wacky as ever. And the three post Henson muppet films still have crazy storylines that contain that certain element so "uniquely muppets." I must admit: MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL is one of my favorite films of all time. It had a very smooth feeling to it, a GREAT performance by Michael Cain and tons of hilarious gags, with Gonzo and Rizzo clearly standing out.

No, Gonzo may never be the same again after MUPPETS IN SPACE. And No, Kermit is not immune anymore to "trendy" lingo. The muppets may have changed a little, but they are still ultimately the same. Kermit and the gang can still make us laugh. Make us cry. Make us feel good. And make us cheer. The Muppets still carry the same magic and craziness that is so apparent in THE MUPPET SHOW. They are entertainment icons. And icons never die unless one allows them.

There are, and will always be, those Jim Henson fans who will seem to hardly, if not never, praise anything produced now by his company. Which is unfortunate because there is a lot of great stuff out there. ELMOPALOOZA, MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND and A MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL are great. MUPPETS FROM SPACE isn't as good, but there are some great moments. It is no MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN or FOLLOW THAT BIRD. But it is definately on the same wave length.

12 Very lucid
This film expresses so much about what I love in America. Its completely crazy, absurd, yet you can't help falling in love with it. Honestly, what really gets me is how young it makes me feel, falling about laughing watching this.

This really is so very clever. The humour is as innocent as a summer rose, and yet so very sophisticated. this take me back, way back to days spent reading William, or stuff by Ursula Moray Williams, when the world was a happier place.

My favorite bits (I mean, I really had tears in my eye) are when the mouse does bench presses using mouse trap, and miss piggy at breakfast "the bacon just left..."

The music is also truly wonderful, George Clinton no less is present and I suspect had a good deal of influence. Somehow I can see this guy being on the set being the marvellous fool and getting everyone going...

There is a very warm feeling in all this. Quite amazing...

13 Why Do You Ask?
Muppets From Space opens when Gonzo is refused a place on Noah's ark because there is only one of him. He wakes up. And which seems to be a live action movie buut got a G rating. Maybe PG for Muppet humor.

Kermit is now on vacation. He hires some house painters to paint the house that he and the other muppets live in. But Animal bite on of them and leave, causing Kermit to paint the house. While Miss Piggy starts a job. She claims to be a tv jouranlist when she is really going to be the coffee pig.

And one of two characters askes "Is Breakfeast over?" and the other answering "No, Why? and the other guy says "Because I think the bacon just ran out." That happens right after Miss Piggy leaves.

14 I'm Hopping Mad!!!! Where is The Great Gonzo?
This was a great idea (maybe) on blueprint for a new Muppet movie, but I find the final product to be overdone. One can't help but feel that the new Muppet movie makers were trying too hard to keep up with the times. Jim Henson rolled in his grave when Kermit belches out " go on with your bad selves!" This was the first of all the Muppet movies to abandon the musical film genre. The only reason I don't complain about the absence of original music sung by the muppets is due to the bad taste that "treasure Island" and "christmas Carol" left in my mouth. What bothers me most is the gradual corrosion of Gonzos character. I think it started when he got his nose stuck in the elevator doors in "The Great Muppet Caper". He liked it. Now Gonzo is a masochist and "hopes it hurts" when he's being cosmically transported through the universe. What happened to the Gonzo that stared up at the night sky an whispered in awe, "You could get lost in a sky like that"? What happened to the Gonzo that was on his way to Bombay India to make his own movie? In this movie he only comes across as "weird" because he's trying to gain contact with his alien relatives. He used to be my favorite. The very fact that we find out where Gonzo came from cheapens his character to bits. Meanwhile, Kermits voice, done by Brian Henson of the late jim, is a pain in the ear. Pepe the Prawn and Rizzo and the rats save the film. I was looking forward to seeing some references if not appearances by the "Pigs in Space." Nope. Miss Piggy was her usual self stealing the show with her kung fu and smart remarks. I didn't appreciate the Dawsons Geek Cameos I did appreciate the Bean Bunny cameo from "the tale of the bunny picnic. He gets smashed by the kitchen door and falls over, it's very cute. The big black bear is funny enough along with the Andy Dick look alike Doctor. And finally, that annoying barney mutation with the dredlocks drives the point home that the creators became unhip in trying to stay hip. 3 stars because it still has a faint glimmer of that Muppet magic at its core.
15 Not Jim Henson
This is just the perfect example of why Muppet movies should have been left alone after Jim Henson's death. He was a great man who brought meaning and love to children's movies. ("Life's like a movie, write your own ending, keep believing, keep pretending...") Disney movies and the like have very little substance when compared with one of Jim Henson's films. He could bring a serious theme to his silly, zany cast of characers and make it work. This movie doesn't work. Not only have original songs been abandoned, but it's a meaningless spoof of every sci-fi movie ever created. It can't possibly compare with Jim Henson's gems, where all the gags, music, and pupeteering worked towards a truly optimistic, American theme.
16 Die Hard Muppet Fan
I have been a muppet fan since I was born in 1981. My dad raised me on the muppet show and I grew to think of Jim Henson as the man who has done the most for the spirit of children. I have to disagree with those who say his son has not done the muppet world justice. Muppets from space was able to achieve a sence of reality the other movies couldn't pull off. It made these charactors, not just creations of a human mind, but creatures who could actualy be living next door! If anything this has been the most majical "real life" muppet movie yet.
17 There are better muppet movies
While i appreciate the attempt to make more movies staring the loveable muppets, i must say i was disappointed by this movie. It seemed to lack that magic that Jim Henson was able to instill in the first three movies and that was present in The Christmas Carol as well (i am not a big fan of Muppet Treasure Island either). A great movie for the kids i guess, but i think you diehard Muppets fans will be disappointed.
18 Kids Also Like It!
This movie is incredibly funny and, I thought, really equaled the best of the earlier Muppet films. My fifteen-month-old son loves the physical comedy, and my four-year-old nephew adores the story. I love to watch it to, as a great deal of the pop culture references and funny lines are meant for adults (my favorite line: "You tell him and I will smack you. I will smack you like a bad, bad donkey, okay?") A good buy for the whole family!
19 i love this movie
This muppet movie was hilarious, especially great for little kids. The previous ones had a few more classic muppet stuff in them, but this one was still great. It was more serious, too. But it's a really funny movie, and anyone would probably enjoy it, especially if you're already a fan.
20 For the kiddos.
I can't say I was very disappointed with this film, because I wasn't expecting much of a movie. I am not really a fan of the Muppets and the only reason I saw this is because there was nothing else on.

But anyway, Gonzo reckons he has a family from outerspace and he is right because they are looking for him! So then Miss Piggy, Kermit and Gonzo himself set out for a journey to look for the family beyond.......

This totally has an all-star cast including Dave Goelz, Andie MacDowell, David Arquette, Rob Schneider and cameo's from Dawsons Creeks' Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes.

I totally recommend this for the kids, and it is pretty fun and cute, so older muppet-goers will enjoy it too!

21 A VERY hesitating 3 stars.
Okay, I will try and make this review as helpful to Muppet-goer's as possible.

It is about this muppet dude who thinks his family is from space and he's not wrong! Everything goes out of hand when him and his pals go looking for his family and get trapped in cages instead!

Muppets From Space deserves about 2 and a half stars only. It is for people under 9 years of age. If you loved 'The Muppet Movie' you will enjoy 'Muppets From Space'. But in my opinion, 'Muppets On Treasure Island' is better than both of them.

Okay, I'm not exactly a muppet maniac, I have seen 3 movies of theirs. But the treasure island one was by far the best!

Muppets Maniacs should see 'Muppets From Space' a.s.a.p but there are alot of better movies out there at the moment!

22 MUPPETMANIA RETURNS!
This movie is not as funny as the muppets last two offerings ofTreasure Island and A Chrismas Carol the main reason being the lack ofsongs which are often so great remember "We Got Cabin Fever" from Treasure Island. However, this is an original story written especially for the muppets and Gonzo in particular. Its great to see the little guy get a starring role at last and he does it with an oscar winning performance. The film is slightly more serious than previous muppet films, not to say that the film isn't crazy beacuase it is. It's just that there is a serious element underlying the madness. The film does still offer classic muppet moments, the first fifteen minutes are especially fun. And is overall a great movie that will appeal to both young and old and will leave a smile on your face.
23 Probably the best kids movie showing at the time.
I have to say 'Muppets From Space' was exactly good or perfect but I give it credit for beating the standards of 'Pokemon' and 'Inspector Gadget.' The muppets are really funny and this movie has an all-star cast including David Arquette (Dreams With The Fishes, Scream, Hi-Lo-Country, Scream 2, Scream 3), Ray Liotta (Copland) and Rob Schneider (King OF Comedy! was in Duece Bigalow and Big Daddy). It has a high then low then medium climax but its a great family movie. (10's and over - miss this!) TRUST ME!
24 Thanks for the Memories
What can I say . . . it made me go and buy every Muppet movie on DVD. It brought back all the original muppet creativity and humor without relying on a bunch of computer generated special effects like . . . should I dare say, "The Phantom Menace" - uhhh.
25 And romantic,okay?
I adore this movie! Sure, there are moments that are less than exciting, but, all in all,it's mupperific fun! I loved the scene with Rentro having the marshmallow fluff all over his paw patting his boss on the back. Oh,and I thought Pepe was just so cool, okay? I was also glad to see that they are giving more attention to newer characters. Fozzy just doesn't seem funny anymore.
26 Almost perfect DVD, movie much better than Treasure Island
If you're reading this then you obviously like the Muppets which means you have to get this disc now! The video commentary is excellent, though because of its humour NOT technical detail. This beats the dull Muppet Treasure Island by a long way. We need more video commentaries like this!
27 Muppets from Space
This was a blast to watch with the commentary turned on. It gives the already funny movie a whole different angle on the comedy. OKAAAY.
28 Muppets from Space
This was absolutely hilarious, my son and I were laughing continuously. This is a excellent movie for all ages. And if you liked the 70's disco music this movie has plenty.
29 It may not have lasted long in theaters, but...
It was a great movie! I loved it! The parodies were great, the 70s soundtrack was well mixed, and the jokes were there... in my opinion, one seen the more recent TV show (Muppets Tonight, which still reruns sometimes on the Disney Channel) which many of the newer characters (Bobo the Bear, Clifford, Pepe...) are from... Even though Bill the Guy Who Blows Bubbles out of his Head didn't show up, almost all of the muppets have at least a cameo.
30 Muppets Are Back!
After several years of seeing them doing literary adaptations for Disney, it's nice to see the Muppets getting back to some original material. It is the funniest, wackiest Muppet movie since The Great Muppet Caper.

Knowing parodies of ID4, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The X-Files added extra chuckles.

The only flaw is that they don't sing their own songs like they did in previous movies, but you can't have everything. If you are a Muppet fan, you will enjoy this movie (unless you are expecting a feature length version of Pigs in Space).

31 They're baaaaaaaack!
We love the Muppets! This movie was soooooooo funny. (Yeah, and I'm 23!) I especially liked the part with the invisibility spray. Pepe is very funny, ok? The music rules! The DVD has commentary from the creators and muppets, which is a cool bonus. I recommend this movie!
32 A real hoot!
This movie was tons of fun. From Pepe the talking prawn to Animal's usual round of antics, there's lots of laughs for kids and adults. The cameos were pretty funny as well, especially Ray Liotta's. It's a real treat to see the Muppets are back to fine form after they missed the boat with Muppet Treasure Island (pun intended.)
33 Way to get down with your bad selves!
The combination of the 70's funk tunes and muppet humor is a winner. My kids and have watched this several times. It is not the best muppet film but still pretty good. I wonder what Jim Henson would have done with it?
34 MUPPETS!- and a nice use of DVD technology.
I loved the movie, but I bought this for the DVD extras. I like it when DVDs do something that could only be presented on that format, and this movie's "live video commentary" fufills that. It brings up a little row of theater seats, MST3K style, and the director and various Muppets comment on the film. Just as funny by itself- like 2 movies in one! Plus some funny outtakes, a music video, and other stuff. A good, low-cost DVD, and a fun movie, great for little kids.
35 From a Galaxy Far, Far Away...Came...Gonzo!
I loved this movie! I had so much fun with it. The songs were cute and all the warmth and friendship of the muppets was there. Rizzo the Rat's supportive role was great. I would have liked to have seen more space scenes and alittle more with Gonzo's family, but I still loved everything about the film. It's a great addition to any muppet collector's treasury. If you want a fun, fuzzy, warm movie this is it.
36 Meet the Gang of "Muppets Tonight"
As a devoted fan of both the original Muppet Show (no quotes necessary -- it's not just a series, it's a concept) and the short lived revival "Muppets Tonight" I must say that I think that "Muppets from Space" is the best Muppet movie since the original ("The Muppet Movie"). Not only does it feature classic Jim Henson muppets such as Kermit, Piggy and Gonzo, it also "introduces" some of Brian Henson (and company)'s new Muppets, such as Clifford the rastafarian catfish, Dr. Phil Van Neuter and my personal favorite, Pepe the prawn (I think he's from down on the bayou, ok?). The film's only lack is the relative abscence of Muppet songs from both movie and soundtrack. It's good, I promise.
37 Muppets was a very funny comedy for all ages and I'm 22
Muppets from Space was very clever and packed as much humor as American Pie, just in a slightly more moral way. Clean jokes can be funny, the movie was one of the best of the summer.
38 im still a kid at heart
what can i say about the muppets?? i grew up with these wonderful creatures, from the movies to the muppet babies then to the show that bombed on network tv...and i never saw muppet treasure island cause i thought it was just the stupid muppets...well im a firefighter with no kids and i loved this movie....it was funny in all aspects from the adult comedic stand point, the hippies that gave bunsin and beeker a ride, to the crazy antics of pepe...where did they get this guy and why hasnt he been around longer, "i am going to slap you....slap you like a bad, bad donkey...ok" that is just the best...well it may not be the best muppet movie but it did touch the heart of this long forgotten fan..
39 One small step for Gonzo, one giant leap for the frog.
Although this isn't the best of Muppet humor, all the elements were there. I laughed till I cried at some spots, other spots I couldn't wait to get on with it. I admit the ending was a little disappointing, but if you want a fun movie, and if you're a muppet fan, see it. I can't wait to buy the video and watch it with my wife.
40 Ho-hum
At least kids may like this. I liked the talking sandwich-very surreal. And you'll never look at breakfast cereal the same way again either. Overall, though, it was kind of boring.
41 The funniest movie I saw all year.
Where do I begin, the whole thing was great. The opening scene with `Brick House` in the background and all the stupidity throughout. I loved it. I have to take that back, it starts with Animal's comments before the opening credits and ends with `Pepe the prawn's` ending duet with none other than George Clinton himself. I laughed all the way through. I must admit that it did taper off a bit from its strong beginning, but it was still a great one. I think a lot of people need to realize that this was definitely aimed more for adults than kids (my buddies and me were the only adults in the theater that did not have kids) but I'm sure the kids will enjoy it too and don't worry its clean humor. I was dissappointed that there was not as many muppets, except for the opening scene (ie - no Rolph the dog, Cammila the chicken, and very little Fozzie) but Pepe and the Bear make up for it. The Cameos were wonderful as well. No there wasn't very many muppet musical performances, but the all funk soundtrack made up for that. All in all it was definitely worthy of the Muppet name that it bears. I'm glad Dave Goelz can carry on the Jim Henson torch.
42 a big dud
My kids loved Muppets Treasure Island and I grew up watching the Muppets Show, so when Muppets from Space came out, I though WOW!. A movie I can take my children too. Well--what a surprising dud! Not only could we NOT wait for it to be over, it was so quickly forgotten that I'm sorry I wasted the money to see it. Of course, the characters are always cute, but the plot was quite weak. We kept waiting for the Muppets to go into space. Many of the bits were a bit too cerebral for the intended audience. Don't waste your money, Rent it!
43 The least of the Muppet adventures, but still a great ride!!
In some ways MUPPETS FROM SPACE tries to recreate the feel of the original Muppet Movie, and it does fairly well. The Muppets aren't tackling roles in classic literature here, they're back to being themselves in an adventure beyond rationalization. However, certain things cry out that are missing that keep this movie from reaching the same level as any of the previous films. One, there is only one song in the entire movie that the Muppets perform and it was already a big hit. While the funk soundtrack is definitely exciting and humorous, I miss the terrifically zany Muppet songs. Two, Gonzo is tortured at one point in this film and is frightened. Anyone who has watched the previous films knows Gonzo likes pain. That's one of his endearingly weird qualities. And three, if Gonzo's contemplating leaving the planet with his new found brothers, and he's saying goodbye to everybody, where is his girlfriend Camilla? He'd definitely say goodbye to her. At first I had a fourth point as well, we don't want to know what Gonzo is, but if you think about it they still don't answer that fully. That "spaceship" could have came from Cleveland. I don't know, but it could have. In any case, the Muppet magic is still present, the cameo appearances were humorous, and the various movie references still make me laugh. I'll always love the Muppets and as far as I'm concerned, they can't make a bad movie. Long live Dave Goelz!!!!
44 Take us to your whatever!
This movie brings the Muppets back to their original format of playing themselves with several human cameos. There's really only one thing it's lacking and that's the reknowned Muppet musical numbers. Without them, it's a bit dry, but newcomers Pepe the Prawn and Bobo Bear make it well worth it. A very 'Close Encounters' ending makes it an enjoyable space movie spoof.
45 Outer Space recaptures that lost Muppet zaniness.
When I was growing up I watched the Muppet Show every week, and I loved The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper. After that, the Muppets seemed to take themselves too seriously. While I enjoyed the Muppet Christmas Carol, I longed for the stories of Muppets against the world, where they did not ally themselves with humans for the sake of making a tacky musical. Muppets From Space gets back to the elements that made the first two movies great: wild humor that would only work with felt, and adventures that focus on the Muppets themselves, rather than their human friends. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoyed The Great Muppet Caper and the Muppet Movie. I haven't had so much fun since then.
46 Lacking some of the Henson magic, but still a lot of fun.
A series of dreams and a sequence lifted directly from Contact help him to realize that he is actually from "Out there". Not only that, but his family is finally ready to come get him. From here the movie does what Muppet films do best- Vaudeville type gags and pop culture references that sometimes fly over children's heads, but help keep parents entertained. Be sure to keep an eye open for a reference to Brent Spiner's appearance in ID4 once Kermit and friends get into the secret lab. It's a riot. The ending of the film is the only place it really misfires. It can be seen from a mile off and we all knew what would happen before we even entered the theater. Bu that's OK. We need the happy ending for the kids. The first 90 minutes were for us.
