1 GOOD PHONE BUT AT&T SUX
GREAT PHONE NOT ONLY DOES IT LOOK HOT AS HELL BUT IT FULLY CHARGES IN LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF - ATTWS IS THE PROBLEM NOT THE CELL
2 Worst Phone ever
This is one of the worst phone ever i have owned. Hangs up in the middle of the conversation and call does not end till it is shutdown.
Least to say AT&T service is the worst ever i have encountered till now as a consumer.
3 Poor Service Provider and Very poor phone in my life
The service really sux. Half the time u can not receive the signals. The reception in the phone is very poor. Hangs in between you have to turn the phone off and switch it on again to make another call if it hangs in between a call. Till now i cannot figure out its due to the poor service provided by AT&T fellas or the worst quality of the phone. The customer service in AT and T is the worst i have ever seen in my life. I will rate the customer service as one of the poorest service in the world.
MY ADVICE IS NEVER HAVE A SERVICE WITH AT & T IN LIFE AND NVER BUY THIS PHONE!!! This is my personal experience. Still if you want to try. Then i cannot help fate playing in ur life!!!
4 Fully Features Phone, Looks Great & Great Price!!!
MY OPINION ======I must say that I am a Nokia fan and was weary of trying anything else. It takes a lot to please me, but when I got this phone I was happy right away.
For those that says it's bulky, well it's all your perspective I guess, yes it's a little longer than other flip phones on the market now, especially those tiny Samsungs. But I kinda like it because my sister has the tiny Samsung E105 which cost almost $300 and she drops it all the time, its hard to handle. I don't have this problem. The feel is great, whomever said it was cheap must probably want a $500 phone for this price. It's not cheap looking or feeling at all.
PROS ======The most striking thing about this phone is the color scree, it's like looking into a tv.
The menu, not at all confusing, and I came from using Nokia simple navigation for my past 3 phones. I never even went to the manual, figured it out after playing with it for an hour.
The ring tones sound great ... I had a nokia 3200 with polytronic ring tones and this is even better.
The graphics are wonderful. Very vivid and nice to look at. Overall the screen in the biggest plus, and it's a very big screen too which is what makes the phone a little bigger.
COMPARISONS ======It's funny I was reading one users opinion on amazon about this phone, they said they sold this and got the Nokia 3200, well I did the opposite. The nokia 3200 is a great phone, very nice features (you can read my review on it on amazon) but its so ugly, and talk about bulky. It's also wrapped in plastic. No!!! Lastly, the resolution on this screen versus the motorola, No Comparison!!!
Compared to the Motorola T720 & T721, they are a little shorter in height but wider, so I wouldn't say either is great in size. The outside display is nice I have to admit. The buttons on the Motorola are nices, they have silver around them, all that fancy stuff which wears off in about 3 months (I used to have the Matrix Nokia 8890 phone which was all chrome and silver, I had to replace the parts 3 times in one year cause it was frequently scratched or worn). So if you're going to be texting and using the phone alot, the buttons on this phone will take your longer. Lastly, the resolution on this screen versus the motorola, No Comparison!!!
Compared to the Samsung E105, I found the samsung to be more plastic feeling, of course if SIZE if your only concideration in finding a phone and outside display, well samsung wins then. But in terms of menu, functionality, and resolution, and tones ... this phone wins.
... Well those are all the phones I worked closely with and can tell you about.
CONS ======Again, it's not the smallest phone out there, but not by far the biggest or bulkiest. It's a good size.
I truly wish for an outside display, but wasn't willing to dish out $150-200 more for the NEC 525
It's true, its a little hard to find NEC accessories, but not on Ebay.
PRICE ======Sold my nokia 3200 for this, earned $70 for the transaction. Couldn't be happier. I think with a new plan you actually have to pay out of pocket, it's because of all the features that this phone has and the screen resolution.
OVERALL ======Lets face it, phones like computers come in and out so quickly. I've never had a cell phone for over one year. I think this is a phone which I will enjoy for a year, then off to another model.
For those giving this phone a bad rating because of poor reception ... check your carrier!!! It's not the phone. The dropped calls ... not the phone! I have AT&T in CA area, excellent reception. I had TMobile up until a few months ago, I found AT&T reception much better. I always have reception everywhere I go including inside malls, bathrooms, elevetors and at work.
P.S. Gave it a 4 for no outside display and little long length
5 terrible
confusing menu, and you can barely hear thru its ear piece...i would not recommend
6 Poor quality product
This phone is horrible.
1. Frequently it goes into "SOS Only" mode, which means that you can't make any calls or receive any, and you have to turn the phone on and off several times and even then it may not work. This happens over half the time the phone is on at all, it makes you miss potentially important calls and is highly inconvenient - what's the point of owning a phone if you can't make calls? My fiancee gets so frustrated that he's constantly threatening to lob it out the window.
2. Reception is very poor, even though I live in the D/FW metroplex where there are plenty of towers.
3. Frequently I won't receive messages (voice or text) until at least a couple of days after they were left/sent - this is especially inconvenient because over half the time the phone can't receive calls or messages anyway.
4. It's bulky, the displays are ugly, and there aren't many rings. These are all asthetic qualities which I find to be relatively unimportant, but are significant to some people.
Altogether this is a horrible phone. Certainly not worth cute polyphonic rings or a sleak design that's very cheap-looking once you really look at it.
7 Okay for in-town usage
I bought two of these phones and my family found that the phones worked adequately in town, but in a suburban area we have dropped calls constantly. This really turns out to be a headache because most of our calls are international. I cannot recommend the phone at all. I have another cheap phone that never drops calls and works perfectly in the same areas.
8 Spam in cell phone section
There is an imposter in the cell phone site, who is posting spams about his website for ring downloads. For your spamming, I am not even going to check your web site.
Amazon editor, please delete those spams which you will see entered under almost all the phones. Thank you!
9 this phone sucks
ok i dont know whether its at & t or its the phone that makes it so terrible, this phone barely has signal, and the "no antenna" thing is definately the problem, something thats supposed to be attractive, makes it less effective, on top of that, the second month i owned the phone, my internet access, and m mode access, just stops? plus on top of that, i'm charged for buying things i browse, this phone is terrible, do yourself a favor, dont buy it
10 Ok Phone
The NEC 515 has really good reception and coverage. The screen is large and legible. The USB feature is ok, I have had some problems with connections with my office applications. Do not understand the infrared transmitter. You can only use this with other NEC 515's. Speaker Volume is horrible, I use the hands free ear bud. With out the ear bud I have to press the phone against my ear. Overall for the price I would not purchase this phone. If you can get it for free go for it.
11 Great Phone
I had a samsung x426 but it was way too small, was not very customizable, and had a horrible mouthpiece.
The Nec515 is an excellent phone. I got it from AT&T for free to. It is perfectly designed...nice size, great display, comfortable, comfortable buttons, and overall nice to hold. Also excellent because it is a clamshell phone.
The phone has a lot of good features...a great address book, a nice external led (choice of 7 colors), great sound and graphics.
12 Don't Be Fooled
This phone has all the bells and whistles but they are no good if you can't hear the person on the other end. I had this phone for LESS THAN one week and I am returning it. Unless you are indoors, with absolutely no noise, you cannot hear on this phone. I read this before but did not believe it.
13 NEC 515 Great Phone but battery life suck!
I Got this phone when I renewed my contract with ATTWS. So far it has been great! The HUGE display, is awesome, the games are great and the contacts are great with all of the stuff you can put in there. The display is one of the best. You can go online to http://www.nechdm.com/ and upload *.jpg images from your pc and have them sent to your phone via an email with a link to the image, you'll need to use your mmode for this as your downloading from the web. But the pics look great! This phone would have gotten five stars if not for the short battery life If your on the phone a lot then invest in a car adapter or spare battery.
14 Cool Phone!
Why do people say this phone is bulky? How small do people really need their phones? The size of a ritz cracker OK? It's a portable Telephone! A device that connects you to any other phone in the world right in the palm of your hand. Amazing really if you think about it. Now on to impressions...
The 515 is great in my opinion, It has a very large screen which is bright and vivid. The sound quality is great! Even when the signal strength is at only 1 bar, I can still hear clearly. It's sleek and stylish with chrome accents here and there, and you have the privilage of having a phone that not everyone and their grandma has yet. It has a multicolor LED on the front which is really cool it changes like 6 or 7 colors.
The ringtones are pretty good, but I think there's only 12 of them so get downloading! It holds a minimum of 30 custom tones. I didn't really like where they placed the speaker on the phone because it's on the back side, but it's still loud and noticeable. Polyphonic Ringtones can play up to 40 channel tunes, so their getting more complex which is great. Also the games that they have on here are awesome for a phone! It's like a tad bit less than SNES quality, which would make it Genesis quality, yeah, that's the ticket.
The menus take a little getting used to. This ain't your standard nokia here. There's all kinds of options hidden here and there and some you would think are in one category are in another. It took me 1 week to learn everything on it
I get the feeling that the NEC is just a tad bit fragile, I mean, I would never just throw it on the couch like I used to with my nokias, It's a premium phone at a premium price and it demands reasonable care. It is quality made but It's probably not too durable. In other words: I wouldn't have this thing clipped on in addition to a tool belt.
One thing that did happen and it's bound to happen sooner or later as things get more technical, It crashed on me... Yup, did they sneak windows in there? I placed a call and hit the send button, right then I decided that I didn't want to call that person so I pushed end, and it locked up on the sending screen. I had to turn it off and on to get it back to normal. Only happened once so I forgive them.
Battery life is probably not gonna be good to a person who talks a lot. If you're a normal person and you use it sparingly, it will last you 3 days. You get this thing in the hands of a teenage girl, and they'll be charging it every 3 hours! The battery is smaller than a book of matches,(thanks a lot small phone people!) So battery life is comprimised, you also have to remember, that this phone is a multimedia machine as well so it was to be expected
NEC 515 - Recommended to the casual user that wants style and features all in one.
15 great phone
I haven't had the sound quality problems or the dropped calls that other reviewers have complained about. This phone has been great for me. Using the features is pretty intuitive. I really like the form factor. It's just the right size. I think it's a great phone.
16 Great Phone, on the west coast
Just bought the NEC 515 for free from attwireless.com. Great everything. Great reception, great sound, great look, etc.. etc.. My brother has the same one, however he lives in ohio, and gets horrible reception. My guess is it is the att service over there. I have traveled up and down the west coast, it and it works perfectly. Buy it if it suits u!
17 little bulky, but great phone
Has great signal strength compared to other GSM phones on the market. Also, is very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse and keep on working. Entering phone numbers is a little tricky at first, but easy to pick up after a few tries. Great phone if you are looking for good service and great durability.
18 Do you blame NEC or AT&T?
I had the phone for a little over a week, then turned it in to get off the GSM network and got a V60 (TDMA). The sound quality was horrible, and sometimes I had to position the phone just right to get at least audible sound from the speaker. The V60 phone has remarkably better sound quality. And the NEC product is rather bulky.
19 unhappy customer
My concerns were the incoming and out going calls, I read the reviews and concluded this might be the phone I wish to have. Disappointing, the voice quality is not good at all, I do not know if this is an att feature like their cs, or it is NECå's design problem. ATT cs , on the other hand, is an impotent entity within a dysfunctional disorganization, where their system sets bunch of under-trained individual with no power to make a change to face the customer with tons of problems. I had called 10 times the sc, waiting 1:25 hour, and minimum 15 minutes, yet none of problems solved. They have me on 30 minutes plan and charged me $300 for roaming and additional minutes, during the first 10 days of my service. The phone sucks, service is worse than the phone.
20 Hello . . .Hello . . .Echo . .Echo
I wanted to get my wife a cool flip phone for Christmas and I was already with AT&T. So I'm on the web and I see this great looking flip phone for FREE! I'm thinking, "Yeah, she'll think I spent a fortune and I'll look good doing it!" Well, turns out it backfired. Sure she was impressed with the large color screen and the many functions she would never use but then she made some calls. The people she called said they heard themselves in echo. ... Sure enough I call her with my cell phone and hear it myself. It seems as though NEC has been out of the cell phone business too long. The design itself is at fault. If you turn the earpiece volume up to a level that you can hear the microphone hole (located just under the hinge) picks up the callers voice. Hence the echo. So what can you do? Turn the phone down till you can't hear your caller? Make your callers live with the echo? I was very disappointed and so was she and that's when it backfired. ....
21 Great for everything but making calls
I had always wanted a color flip phone, and this one seemed like it had everything I wanted. The color screen is the best I have seen on any cell phone to date, and the ringtones, pictures, and games all exceeded my expectations. This phone fails, however, when it comes time to make calls. Numerous times I have experienced dropped calls when the phone shows it is receiving full service. It also has a terrible problem when connecting the calls, often allowing people to hear me but not allowing me to hear the person I'm trying to talk to. I exchanged my first handset for another to see if the phone was defective, but I still had the same problems. It just seems like a poorly made phone. I've never had more trouble making calls, even with my old cell phone that couldn't get more than 2 bars of service.
22 Looks better on paper than it does in real life
I'm not sure what all the hype is all about. Yes, it has a nice color screen with decent resolution, but overall the phone has a very cheap feel to it. The buttons look like they've been ripped from a mid-1980's cell phone. Additionally, the phone is not very user-friendly. The menus in the phone are very confusing. Instead of automatically alphebetizing your phone book entries, you have to specify the location of each entry by number. Then, it differentiates between contacts you add manually versus those you save through your call log, so now I can't even find half my contacts! Very strange. Also, the buttons at the top of the keypad (the buttons closest to the joint of the phone) don't make very good use of the space. Many phones that have this sort of GUI display use a joystick, which saves a lot of space and is a lot less confusing.
Unlike many flip-phones, you can't see the time or incoming call information while it is closed. For a phone of this size, I'm surprised they didn't include this feature!
The phone is a lot bulkier than the pictures show, and you really have to see it in person to realize how cheaply it's made. I thought it looked great online, and I now realize I made a big mistake. You can get a much better phone for this price.
23 An Almost Perfect Phone
I have had the NEC 515 for almost a week now, after having to replace a Motorola T721 that mysteriously went dead. I never really cared for the Motorola in the six months that I had it either; it creaked alot when you held it,and the flip and battery covers were cheap and wiggled alot.
While a little difficult to initally set up, you eventually find after about and hour, this was a great choice. The keys are highly tactile and have a firm feel to them. The sturdy flip cover locks in place when open or closed, and the battery is held motionless by an integrated cover. There is no external screen to display caller id, time, etc., but there is a multicolored LED that can be programmed to a certain color for certain callers. Personally, I feel that an external LCD is uneccessary, and is just susceptible to scratches. When fully open, the phone also accomodates to a larger man's face. I have always seemed to have a difficult time holding some of these matchbook sized phones to my ear, and the call recipient cannot hear me clearly since the microphone is so far away.
The signal strength is mostly 100%, and the antenna is built into the bottom of the phone, below the keys.I have found that if you can avoid touching this area while in call, you can increase your clarity.
This model has 2 processors as well, unlike most phones, which enables you to access its applications much more effectivly.
This phone is almost perfect, I will enjoy this item for a while.
24 excellent
i have used the same piece before but in other service
