There is no reason to think of whether you need this adapter in regard to plugging in your camera to take pictures. That is really not even why it is recommended to have by Nikon.
The real reason you need to have this is for the transfer of pictures to your computer from your camera. You don't want to be in the middle of transfer and have your battery poop out on you. Having a good AC connection insures a smooth transfer of data...with no loss...that's the key, and why this device is so necessary.
Since it works flawlessly, I give it 5 stars.

Yes, this adapter works great with the Nikon camera. Good for indoor use but the fact is you dont really use a camera indoor a lot. Its good if all your batteries are exhausted and you you want to transfer the photos to your laptop or may be viewing them on TV.
I think it would be useful for those who view their photos on TV and who dont use a computer. I use a laptop and I have rechargeable CRV3 batteries which last very long. So there's no need for the adapter. About the quality and working of the adapter, Its great.
