Overview
Compatible with Cingular cell phone service, the Nokia 3100 features XHTML Internet browser, high-speed GPRS data transmission, and plenty of phone and organizer features, all displayed on a high-resolution, 128 x128 pixel, 4,096 color screen with bright white lights.
Calling Features
Used simply as a phone, the 3100 benefits from Nokia's typically slick design; its 4-way scroll key makes menu navigation and dialing a breeze. Plus, its vibrating alert comes in handy for silent call notification. Other features include local language support (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese), an integrated speakerphone, photo caller-ID for use with downloaded photos or photos taken with attachable cameras (sold separately), and a 300-contact phone book. Nokia also supports TTY/TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf), and hearing aid support for the Nokia LPS-3 Loopset, (adapter and Loopset sold separately).
Messaging and Internet
Mobile messaging features are fairly standard: via MMS, users can send, edit, forward, and receive image and text messages to and from compatible phones or PCs. There's also conventional e-mail, instant messaging capability, and predictive text input. With the built-in Internet browser, users can download new wallpaper and graphics, as well as more Java applications in addition to World clock and Instant Messaging, which are already included with the phone.
Organizer
Organizer features include a 500-entry calendar with monthly view, an alarm clock with snooze, and a stopwatch and countdown timer. GPRS high speed data transmission is also available.
Fun and Games
For fun, this phone provides compatibility with Nokia's glow-in-the-dark Xpress-on changeable covers (sold separately). You'll also get animated screensavers, personalized color schemes, customizable ring tones including voice-recorded alerts, a nutty feature where the phone uses different flashing lights to indicate different callers, and the games Snake EX2, Beach Rally, and Bowling. A wide variety of Java and non-Java games and applications are also available for download separately.
Vital Statistics and more
The Nokia 3100's Lithium Ion batteries are rated at up to 6 hours digital talk time, and up to 17 days digital standby time. It operates on GSM/GPRS 850/1800/1900 MHz service.
1 A Great Little Phone Packed With Features Of A Big Boy Cell
I was not prepared for such a small (phone) but it is packed with all the features, except for "voice recognition" that my (Nokia 3595) had.
But the phone is easy to navigate the keys, I love the "voice recorder" feature, and also I selected it as it is closely similar to the features of the (Nokia 3595).
Have had (3) three Nokia phones over a (5) five year period, and they have all been great!
2 Good Phone for the Price
I found this phone to be very good for the price.
1. Well constructed and very durable in regards to being dropped. Call quality and reception is very good.
2. It's lightweight and small but fits well in the hand.
3. The buttons are well layed out and are easy to use for texting.
4. The inclusion of a speakerphone function is usu. found on higher end phones. Even so, the sound quality is very decent.
5. The battery life is quite good.
The only thing I wish had been improved is the qulity of the screen. Using a passive matrix display at only 4096 colors makes it difficult sometimes to see the status bars around a dark background and there is a noticable but not horrible ghosting effect when playing games. Aside from that, if your looking for a nice phone to replace an older or just want a low end phone thats easy to use, take a look at this model. Its very decent.
3 nokia 3300 is the best
i have to say this is one of the best phones i have, the only downside is that all the ink on the keys gets smeary after a while, wap is a little slow too
4 Super user friendly
I love this little phone. I have owned many cell phones including Nokias but this one is the most user friendly. I actually programmed in my most used phone numbers, something I never did with my other phones, added ring tones from the internet and more. The only problem is that it is easily water damaged. Don't spill a drink on it!
5 Cingular is deceptive!
My review is on Cingular. I bought a phone w/service and was told I could return for full refund and only charged for any air time used. THEY LIE. THE PHONE DID NOT WORK IN MY AREA AND I CANCELLED THE NEXT DAY. THEY ARE CHARGING ME FOR ACTIVATION even though it never worked in my area. If you are uncertain you will keep the phone and service, DON'T BUY from Cingular. Amazon will also do nothing to reimburse.
6 Fantastic
Very simple but it's TINY and has really, really good reception. Too bad Amazon has discontinued it. I highly recommend this phone (with Cingular service in Philadelphia region).
7 Pleasently surprised!
When I went to upgrade my phone from the crappy Nokia 6340i, I didn't want to pay anything and I wanted a Nokia phone. I was able to get this gem for free with a 2 year contract. The phone is crystal clear, the display is bright and the built in speakerphone is incredible! The best things about this phone are it's size and it's enourmous battery life. I charge it about twice a week and I'm about to use it talking about 20-30 minutes/day. This phone also has GRPS, polyphonic ringtones and able to download some of the hottest games!
Cingular's new GSM Nation plans are really good. I have the 600 Anytime Rollover with the 7p.m. nights and weekends for $56.99.
I really tried to find something wrong with this phone and I couldn't. It's probably the best phone I've ever had!
Also the previous reviewer said Cingular Customer Service is awful. While you will encounter people who have no clue what they are doing, most are very helpful and polite. Much more than AT&T was...
8 DON'T BUY CINGULAR PRODUCTS
DON'T BUY CINGULAR PRODUCTS FROM HERE. CINGULAR CUSTOMER CARE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU IF YOU BUY CINGULAR PRODUCTS FROM ANYWHERE OTHER THAN CINGULAR.
9 Good phone overall
I recently replaced my old Nokia phone with the 3100 and I am pleased with it. However, there are a couple of problems, for example, if you leave it on for an extended period, say overnight, the battery drains quicker than you would think. However, it is a good little phone. It is easy to carry based on its size (several people have commented on my "cute little phone") and the features are very good. The ringtone choice is good, and it is easy to type text messages with. I highly recommend it as a good phone for people looking for a small phone that will do most things.
