With Bluetooth, expandable MultiMediaCard memory, an FM radio, and support for EDGE high speed data, streaming video and video recording, the Nokia 6230 is a svelte powerhouse. For mobile Internet users and those who crave high end features, this phone delivers all the goodies in a tidy, unassuming package.

At first glance, the 6230 looks like just another candybar phone from Nokia. Looks can be deceiving, though, as this phone packs a lot under the hood. The large 128 x 128 pixels TFT color display dominates the front of the phone and a five-way button just below it controls most of the phone's menus and features. The phone's 8 MB internal memory can be expanded using the MMC card slot located in the battery compartment (the phone ships with a 32MB card). Charging and data ports are placed on the phone's bottom edge. The 6230 also features a standard 2.5mm stereo headphone jack. The 6230 uses an internal antenna-- nothing to snag or break off. The VGA camera unit is housed on the back of the phone. Up/down volume keys are located on the left side. Finally, Nokia provides optional changeable faceplates for the 6230.
Calling Features
The 6230 boasts some powerful calling functions that make it a perfect part of a mobile office. A speakerphone makes it easy to converse without touching the handset-- a big plus for car users. Enhanced voice dialing supports voice controlled dialing of up to 25 contacts. There are also 16 built-in voice commands for controlling the phone's menus. Because the 6230 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation. The phone supports Cingular's "Fast Forward" call forwarding device, which enables you to effortlessly forward your wireless calls to your land line phone.
The 6230's internal and expandable flash memory can be used to hold up to 1000 contacts for quick access to email addresses and phone numbers. The phone lets you easily assign pictures to your most common callers. In addition to vibrating alerts, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. Ringtones and pictures can be assigned to various incoming callers. Twenty-four ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular's MEdia wireless web service.
Messaging, Internet and Tools
The 6230 is a top contender in the messaging and wireless Internet arena. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported via AOL instant messenger and the phone ships with a built-in email client with POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP protocols support (Cingular messaging charges apply). There's also a built-in web browser for MEdia downloads and mobile web browsing. Cingular's MEdia service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the 6230. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the new, high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 6230 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with unit and currency converters, a calendar with monthly views, a to-do list with priority levels, and an alarm clock with snooze. Via download on its Web site, Nokia offers a free application called PC Suite that facilitates easy synchronization of contacts, calendar events and other data between the phone and your PC. Synchronization is possible using Bluetooth or a USB data cable.
Imaging and Entertainment
Because the 6230 shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA camera can capture stills and video, both of which can be sent to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. An included image-editing application lets you modify the pictures you take before you send them. Three minutes of video capture is possible with the 6230 as is streaming video, so long as you have a data service that supplies video content. With an optional stereo headset, you can listen to tunes on the phone's built-in FM radio or to MP3 or AAC audio files stored on a memory card. The phone also supports custom themes and wallpapers.
Java support is built into the 6230, making it a powerful gaming companion for both online and offline games. The phone ships with two games, Beach Rally II, Golf. Multiplayer gaming via Bluetooth is supported and more games are available via the Cingular MEdia service.

1 Missing the i
No doubt this is the classiest feature packed phone Nokia has. And I was all excited about buying at the cost of transferring my service from T-Mobile to Cingular. Then Nokia announced 6230i, removing all the drawbacks of the 6230 Eg: Bigger screen (208*208) as opposed to 128*128. A 32mb card (6230 has 8mb). and the camera res goes up from .3 Mp to 1.3 Mp!!! If u ask me im content with my ol faithful 8290 till some service provider releases the 6230i. Coz I cannot buy 6230 knowing theyve enhanced it, that too for a good reason.
2 ...THIS PHONE IS HOTTT...
My location: Johnson City, TN.
My carrier: Cingular Wireless.
This phone is off the hook. I just bought this phone about 5 days ago. I'm so glad I did. This phone has just about everything anyone could want in a phone.
PROS:
1. Bluetooth - great, great technology, I never knew what Bluetooth was until I bought a bluetooth headset and getting a quick schooling/demonstration from my in-store sales rep.
2. MMC - loving it, love being able to store and carry documents or mp3s with me. Will probably upgrade to a larger size card though.
3. Camera - Decent quality pictures, and love the ability to customize the shots after they've been snapped also.
4. Video - awesome playback on my phone.
5. Radio - who would every thunk it could be included on a cell phone and it be awesome.
6. Signal Strength - very, very good signal strength in my area. Better than the Moto V551 I just dumped for the 6230.
7. Media Player - very good addition to this phone, as well as the Media Equalizer.
8. Music Player - another good addition to the phone.
9. Battery - I've been playing with my new phone over the last 5 days and have gotten very good battery usage off only a couple charges.
10. EDGE - this phone flies when connecting to the net. A heck of a lot faster than my replaced Moto V551 was.
11. LoudSpeaker - one of my favorite things about this phone. I love having a speakerphone and a LOUD one at that.
12. I'm sure there are a lot of other features that I have not covered, I'm still in the exploratory stages with this phone, and recommend it to anyone thinking of getting it.
CONS:
I have not found any cons yet, but I don't think I'll find any either.
ADVICE:
If you're thinking of getting this phone, get it. You'll be glad you did.
3 Nokia 6230: MUCH better than Motorola v551, Ericsson T610
First of all, I've used Sony Ericsson T610 with both Cingular and T-Mobile service and found them comparable in Los Angeles (Verizon is best here). From comparing all three phones (Nokia 6230, Sony Ericsson T610, and Motorola V551) with Cingular service, I've discovered that there is a *BIG* difference in phone reception quality.
Phone reception quality is as follows: Nokia 6230 > Motorola V551 >> Sony Ericsson T610. The Sony Ericsson T610 had no reception in my apartment, the Nokia 6230 has great reception everywhere.
Overall phone quality: Nokia 6230 > Sony Ericsson T610 >> Motorola V551. (Though if reception is most important, you might rank Motorola V551 over SE T610)
Here are pros/cons of Nokia 6230:
Nokia 6230
PROS:
-Excellent reception!
-Bluetooth: Nokia offers FREE software to sync phone with PC, very easy to use!! => excellent!
-Excellent OS design: love the "sound profiles" feature ("silent" for meetings, "normal" for typical use, "outdoor" for extra loud setting...and you can time "silent" and "outdoor" to last 1min-24 hrs and then the sound profile returns to "normal"), easily navigable, the "contacts" lookup feature is very convenient, you can program shortcuts to speed navigation.
-Great battery life and sound quality
CONS:
-Center 5-way scroll button could be improved, I sometimes select the wrong item.
-Menu items on two screens instead of one (would be better if icons were smaller like T610).
If you're considering SE T610 and Motorola V551 bluetooth phones, check out my other reviews.
4 Good But not so Great
I changed my service from T mobile to Cingular and got this phone however, keep using my SonyEricsson T 610. I find it more featured phone and a more capable phone.
5 Great phone! Glad I serached around...
I am glad I spent so much time searching for a phone..I read all the reviews at all the different web sites. The Nokia 6230 was always rated high. They are right too..I have had 3 Nokia phones and this is the best one yet. I get great connectivity, ease of use, good design, blue tooth, camera and video, etc.. I have had zero problems with this phone. I recommend before you ever buy anything always search for user reviews..
6 Who could ask for more?
This phone has great features, a rock solid operating system, and superior call handling. Even using it in areas with poor coverage, it doesn't loose and regain the signal every minute like many other phones. It just holds on to its one bar, and still makes intelligable, uninterruped calls.
The extra features are fun, one of my favorites is using my own mp3s as the alarm tone to wake up to my favorite song in the morning. Using Nokia's PC Suite, I've even downloaded whole TV shows to the phone to watch (of course it drains the battery and is a small screen, but hey it's cool).
Downsides? A bit of a learning curve to learn its operation; and when watching those 20 min video clips, there's no way to seek to the middle of the clip, meaning you have to start over if your veiwing is interrupted.
For the size and features I haven't seen a phone I like better. And when you make $50, who could pass it up?
7 My Best Cell Phone Ever!
I bought this cell phone in the beginning of December 2004 and I have to say they have been great months for me those five months. This phone is excellent. It has great functions. You can save and edit your own messages easily. You can delete them also very easily. There's also a calendar so you can easy make notes almost as many as you want to. The phone has excellent camera, video camera and you can also record some music. Unfortunately the quality of the music isn't so good while you listening to it but I think it isn't so important. What makes me sad is the applications part. I wonder why the stopwatch and countdown timer are in the applications...I think it should be in the organiser folder like all the time things. In addition, there's a great calculator but there's also a converter program. The converter is very useful if you wanna know how many kelvins are fahrenheits etc. There's temperature, currency, weight, length, area, and volume you can easily count with the cell phone. Unfortunately, the currencies aren't always the same and you cannot even change the cell phone settings.
Anyway, the cell phone is great but it could be better. There's great games: golf, chess, and beach rally. In fact, the cell phone is quite beautiful.
8 We need phone reviews, not gripes about your service!!!
I wish to God, all the punk dill weed kids would just give their 2 cents about the PHONE ITSELF rather than your dissatisfaction with your service provider....geeze!
9 negative fifty stars
the phone is ok but cingular has the worst customer service in the history of the universe. every single contact from teh store up the the corperate mgmt level has been AMAZING! i have no idea how they do it.
from the first contact to the very last i have faced kafkaesque incompetance. it would be hilarious if it didnt waste so much of my time.
the story: so i held off getting a cell until i needed to move and wanted a phone in case i needed road side assistance. the guy selling me the phone told me i couldnt get a number that matched my destination, but i could change my number without a problem when i arrived. ok.
when i get to my destination, i discover that cingular stores have no ability to make any such changes. they need to sell you the new number but only the call center can make any actual changes. i waited on hold for the call center at the shop for 1 hr. they told me to come back in 1 hr. after 2 hours they said to come back the next day. when i came back the next day they said they hadnt been able to make the change but to visit another location.
at the second location i chnaged my# but they had to charge me $40... nice surprise.
3 months later i get another nice surprise. the first location had in fact set up 2 duplicate accounts while tryign to change my info. they had only cancelled one dupe account and the second had gone to collections with a random dummy address the store manager put in. so i never received any notification up to that point.
in the process of sorting that out i discovered that one of the store clerks put in my soc# wrong so i was reported as a fraud case. so i had to go through thier fruad department that merely asked me my soc# agains and address. some security eh?
so after that i decide to migrate my # to another carrier. first i discover that of all their locations in la(theres like 5000 of them) they can only accept payment in 2. i kid you not. the payment must be in cash!? and they are unable to give change. so you must give them exact change.
i explain to the store clerk that im migrating my number to a new carrier and i need my complete balance. again - i need to wait 40 mintues on hold while they contact their call center...
i speak with 3 call center reps that give me a final balance and cancel my account. i pay them in advance for the next billing period (ending in a few days)etc. they cant automatically immediately close the account for some unknown reason.
when i speak with the new carrier (yes i get the run around from them for a few days as well but not as bad - im adding a phone to an existing family account) , they tell me that they can only migrate an open cingular account. so i call back cingular and they refuse to aknowledge that they failed to give me correct info for migrating my number. again i speak with accounting and etc. after going over all this info for an hour the lady agrees to open my account for one day to allow the migration without charging me.
after the migration i call back cingular to make sure my account is closed and that there are no problems (i have no confidence in them for some reason). of course, they messed up and the lady credits me about 1 dollar - they had messed up a basic accounting problem when opening and closing my account for one day.
2 months later i get a bill for several hundred dollars!!!! they had failed to process my cash payment to thier machine, they had hit me with all the fees for opening and reclosing the account and hit me with late penalties for thier errors. at this piont its so aweful im actually amused. after the first rep looks at my account and hangs up on me immediately (she knew she was in over her head) i speak with a second rep that gives me hilarious random info - i wait on hold and speak with a manager. she is very rude. combative and tries to pass me off to teh accounting dept. i laugh in her face and actually predict her move " your going to try and transfer me to account right?" "theyre closed already right?" etc. she finally agrees to fix the problem but acts like shes doing me a huge favor. im still waiting to confirm this nightmare is over.
CINGULAR IS THE WORST
10 A great improvement over my previous phone
I upgraded to this phone after my AT&T Motorola V600 met an untimely end. Wow, what a difference. I had all sorts of problems with the V600 (see my review of that phone), all of which have gone away in the 6230. Subjectively, this phone seems to have a better radio and better multipath detection software. My house has pretty marginal coverage, so multipath issues were a big deal with my V600 and they're basically entirely gone now. The phone also feels much snappier than the V600, and it has yet to crash or hang on me in any way. Finally, the UI seems a little more intuitive. A great product.
The phone is not yet supported by iSync on my Mac, but another reviewer mentioned Phone Director, which is a nice piece of software. With that installed on my machine, using the phone with my computer is a snap.
11 Great phone with Great usability options!
My Top ten reasons to get this pimp phone:
1. Great handy camera. *the shutter sound can be turned off~
2. Great radio capabilities! tons of preset slots.
3. BLUETOOTH! works great with (v1.2)headsets.
4. doesn't include the cable, but its great when you get it for your PC connection.
5. Mac... works oka. but best if you have both PC and Mac. w bluetooth adapter.
6. the .jar games!!!! they are awesome. google them. never pay =P
7. the .3gp movies you can convert and transfer make for nice clips of stuff on the go.
8. the expandable MMC to 256M is not too shabby.
9. the Speaker is GREAT!! for talking! MP3s! & Radio!
10. You can transfer files with your buddies via bluetooth, or IR, like ur pics n stuff- =)
12 Does what a cell phone should
I was looking for 4 things in a new cell phone: quality connection, Bluetooth, reasonable price, non-flip style. While this phone has other great things, it exceeded my expectations on these four. With the rebate, the price was right. The Bluetooth connection is easy to activate and connect to either my headset or computer. And in the month I've had it I have not had one dropped call whether in Atlanta, Phoenix or Kansas City.
The only small downside is getting used to the middle navigation key.
13 nokia 6320
Just a reminder from amazon Cingular deal.
Since amazon and Cingular hasn't established the number transfer relationship, if you want to transfer your phone number to Cinglar, Cingular has to canceal your original account established by Amazon, and create another new one for you. This process disqualifies you from getting the Amazon special rebate.
Everyone who wants to buy nokia 6230 from amazon should be aware of this. You DON'T get the special discount.

14 Great phone, but NOT worth it because of Cingular ! !
I called Cingular before purchase to make sure I could migrate my old AT&T number to the new phone. No Problem! they said. I purchased the phone on 1/3/05. It is now 2/25/05 and I still have not woken up from this nightmare. The new phone is fabulous, great features, great reception. I just can't get anyone to help me migrate the number. I have called customer service 6 times, some telling me its impossible, some telling me to go to a Cingular store, some telling me to call a different department. I have gone to 4 Cingular stores, none can help me. Only a CORPORATE store can do it, and the local corporate store doesnt have the right software. They want me to travel 25 miles to the next corporate store to finally get it resolved. Im not sure if I want to bother, who wants to deal with these people in the case of future problems. I may just return the phone.
Beware of the Devil that is Cingular.
UPDATE!!
Thanks to Cingular representative Tim T. who saw my review and took initiative to help me out, everything has been rectified. I want to thank him for all of his help. It is good to find yourself a representative that you can return to if you have problems. I hope that Tim is always there for me.
Pay attention to "John" above, right now you cant keep your phone number with Cingular.
15 Finally regained the Nokia Fan's attention.
Been a user of the Nokias since the stone age. I loved how they build solid phones which barely lagged. thanks to W.Ng, my phone is now unlocked. Thanks bro.
This phone has it all. Mp3 Player (32 MMC Included, I got a 128Mb), Video Camera (15 second clips only), Camera (pretty decent pictures for a phone), Bluetooth (gotta love those bluetooh headsets, this phone has problems with the G2 Bluetech Headsets, so beware), Supertone capabilities (use your favorite mp3 song as your ringtone), speakerphone, longer battery life versus the gd55, sanyo 8100, v600, v551.
Ive had this phone since january, and its been great. Nokia just regained another Nokia's fan's trust again. :)
16 Great phone, great service
I've heard numerous stories regarding issues w/ number portability through Cingular, and also unlocking this phone for use w/ other SIM cards...just want to share my experience to make potential buyer's experience a little less painful.
Number portability, for my case it was from T-Mobile to Cingular
- Place an order through Amazon as instructed.
- Upon shipment of the phone, Amazon will email you a pre assigned/activated number for the new phone.
- Call Cingular port dept at 888 898 7685, and tell them you need to do a port request. Also mention to them that you will only request for a number change when you physically receive the phone. This way, you can kick off the port request while waiting for you phone to arrive via UPS, FedEx, or whatever...to save time.
- Cingular didn't charge me anything for this service, as far as I know.
- Upon receiving the phone, call Cingular port dept again and let them know that you have already submitted a port request and all you need is a number change.
- When I was at this stage, my T-mobile account was automatically deactivated, and within 5 mins my number was successfully ported to my new Nokia 6230. Like magic!
- It is that easy...painless...really!
To unlock the phone
- go to http://www.btinternet.com/~unlocksmith/guide4.html and download the Nokia Free Unlock Codes Calculator V3.10
- Install the program onto your desktop.
- Launch the program, and simply follow the instructions.
- Look for help tab if you need HELP
- Usually the first code generated works flawlessly
- A caveat...do key in the generated codes for more that 5 time as this will permanently lock your phone.
- It is that easy...painless...really!
This is based on my humble experience and please do not hold me responsible if your encounter deviate from mine.
I love my NOKIA 6230. Hope this write-up helps.
17 Nokia 6230 / Mac OS X Possible Solution
You might be interested in knowing that there is third-party software that supports synchronizing a Nokia 6230 to a Mac running OS X.
It's called Phone Director (www.macmedia.sk). $29.95 to unlock its full feature set. I haven't tried it, but have come across it checking out the possibility of using a 6230 with my Mac.
If you try it, please let me know if it works for you, as I'm considering buying a 6230.
18 Number Portability is pain
Amazon doesn't support number portability option with Cingular.
"Cingular and Amazon.com have not yet established a method for customers to transfer their current number to a new Cingular account. We hope to offer this option in the coming months, so please check back."
[...]
During the order process, Amazon didn't gave me option of porting my old number. But after the order was processed, I got email from Amazon/Cingular allocating me new cell phone number. It took 10 days to convert my old number from TMobile to Cingular, as I had to cancel the number allocated by Cingular, get new SIM card from Cingular, activate new SIM card and then port the number back from TMobile to Cingular.
Apart from this, the phone works great.
19 Harder than heck to open
I only have one real problem with this phone. It is harder than heck to open. I tried for hours to get this thing open. HOURS. I was just about to return the thing when I thought to myself why not bring down to a cingular store to see if they could open it. It took 3 people to get this darn thing open. The last guy that tried open it in like 2 seconds. Maybe the reat of us were girlie men.
Other than getting it open I had no problems. Its small, feels good , has but load of features. All in all a pretty good phone.
Oh yeah one other thing you do need a headset to hear the radio. I was hoping I could just plug in my ear plugs of something.
20 Technologies at your fingertips
EGPRS, Bluetooth, InfraRed. Memory Card. MP3 player, wireless. Nokia. More than you'll ever need.
What with cameras, videos and mms, they're fun for children. I prefer to take pictures with my digicamera, resize them and upload using the Nokia software.
21 Nice little phone. No iSync support!
I thought I had finally phone the right phone for me.
Small, good battery life and reception.
Bluetooth.
Hi speed EDGE.
Great price.
Sure, it had a camera but I'd get over that. (I hate camera phones. They're just a waste of space.) I waited around all day for the UPS guy. He usually gets to my office by 9:30. 9:30 came and went.
10:30...
11:30...
12:30...
Finally he came as I was leaving for the day. That's fine, I'll just charge it up when I get home. I do. Go to a movie, happy that i've got a modern phone again after a year with Verizon and their phones from the stone age.
I pair the phone with my powerbook. No problems (as expected)!
Get ready to add it to iSync. "Add new device" and the phone doesn't show up. Hmm. Look at the phone. 6230. Check. 6620. D'oh! I misread the iSync compatibility list. Sure enough, it's not on there.
I frantically search the intarweb for information. Nothing but a lot of disappointed people like me. :(
I'm not mad at the phone. I'm really not. Apple's been lackadaisical in their upgrading of iSync. I may yet keep the phone if Salling Clicker gets updated to work with it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
If you don't need iSync (e.g., don't have bluetooth on your Mac or use Windows), get this phone. It's great otherwise. If you want to use iSync, pray along with me that Tiger will bring the needed update.
22 A top-notch performer in a small footprint
I was pleasantly surprised at the small size of the phone when I received it; I knew it was small and light but it was somehow all the more impressive when I held it in my hand.
This is simply the best feature-packed bluetooth phone on the market right now for any price. And yes, I'm including the RAZR in that comparison. I almost forked over the $409 ($259 after rebate) for the Razr, but after actually seeing that phone in a Cingular store, I was not impressed. First, it's far too wide and in terms of thin, it's a pretty close match to the 6230. For the features the 6230 provides and the price (free after rebate!) this phone is absolutely unstoppable.
Camera works well. The menus respond INSTANTLY and the phone powers up in only a few seconds. Bluetooth has worked flawlessly with the hands free system in my car and the Nokia PC suite software (available free) is outstanding. All in all, this phone has every feature you could want and the implementation is excellent.
23 Great phone with missing feathers.
It can do many things but lacks taking time (while talking) which is pretty important. It can't repeat recorded voice. Everything else is supreme.
24 Reliable and easy to use phone. Recommended
One thing I want to add, this phone easy to unlock so it can be used with other simcards. Once unlock you can travel anywhere and just buy a local prepaid gsm simcard and save alot from international roaming charges. Free to download Crux unlocker and enter your phone imei code and you will get unlock code. You will have five tries, but mine worked with the first out of seven code I got from CruxUnlocker.
25 Best phone I've had
I just got this phone about a week ago and I love it so far. If you like phones that do EVERYTHING, this is it. None of the other websites, including the Nokia site give a complete list of all the things it does so here goes: great camera (no flash), video (up to 4 minutes with included removable 32MB memory card), photo caller ID, phone book that holds up to 1000 entries with multiple entries per person(email, address, etc), calendar with reminders and to-do list, voice dial, voice commands, polyphonic and MP-3 ringtones, built in MP-3 player (you can upload songs from your computer on to the removable expandable memory card, also has an equalizer), FM radio, voice recorder (up to 3 min), mobile internet, text messaging and instant messaging, multimedia messages where you can send pictures, audio and video, bluetooth and infrared, 3 games (some of which you can play against others with bluetooth, measures converter (for U.S. to Metric, etc.), language translator (translate words inbetween 5 languages, kind of crappy not alot of words in dictionary), world clock, alarm clock, calculator, countdown timer, stopwatch, changeable faceplates, external volume control. I think thats about it. I love the phone so far, its small, the camera is great as far as camera phones go, and i have always had good luck with Nokia.
26 Better than it looks
Just wanted to mention a couple of other things that were not mentioned in the other reviews... I bought this phone after owning a few different phones (I Tend to lose phones every few months) most recently I owned the Sony Ericsson T610. This phone has everything that phone has including BlueTooth Connectivity, an Extensive Address Book, very Easy to Use Menu Functionality, Pic ID for callers and all the other things that high end phones tend to share. The great thing about this phone is that it also has a lot of hidden gems that you'd discover after playing with the setup for a while, for instance:
Its Collection Folder has a converter function that can translate Kilos to Pounds, Meters to Yards, US Dollars to Euros and so on. Scoff if you wish, but that function comes in very handu when you travel. The Same folder has a Language functionality to translate words into about 6 Languages.
In Addition to this the MP3 Player like the other user said is quite nice, same problem with the Lack of memory space, basically one song fills up the memory card, there might be a way to xpand that...
The Radio FM feature is priceless... once again for some one who likes to travel its quite handy to have.
The Bluetooth is great (Just remember to download the version of the Nokia Suite from their web site for free rather than what comes in the Box). Camera as good as any top end one out there.
On the Negative side, you cannot personalize the ring tones to your favorite callers, you can only do them by group, and Nokia could improve the Call Log to show more than Dialled Calls...
Other than those two things, qhich are small errors, it is one of the best phones I have owned, only phone I would switch back to would be the Samsung if they ever come out with a Blue Tooth Phone
27 Satisfied customer - almost
I am very happy with the many features on the phone. Only problem - unable to use phone as modem for IPAQ 4150 to access internet. Deal er has tried very hard but to no avail. GPRS very efficient.
28 Great Phone to Own
I really love all the features. It has got mp3 player, radio and can sync it with my PC through infrared or bluetooth. I would recommend this phone to everyone who want a great phone.
Cons only I can think of is it is small and hard to catch in the hand and phone seems to be very delicate with a plastic at the back.
29 Great
Great phone. The only thing I dislike is that the EURO version graphite cover is not avalible in US and cost $40 on ebay.
oh yeah, were can you get this one free after rebate? thanks!
30 I love this little phone
Pros: Good call quality, small size, good battery life, AND it is loaded with features. It is similar to Nokia 6200, but additionally includes Bluetooth, an MP3 player, a media (video clip) player, stereo headphones for your FM radio and MP3 player (which also can be used for calls), and a VGA camera. It also has good games, and is edge enabled for internet, has contacts, calendar, voice recorder, alarm clock, currency converter, you name it this little phone does it. It's small enough to slip into any pocket and hardly be noticable, and yet feels sturdy in my hands. It's hard to beat this phone for price (free after rebates), function, and fun.
Cons: Using the four-way navigation button takes practice to not select the item above or below the one you want. Included 32MB MMC card doesn't hold too many MP3s. Also, when opening the battery compartment to install the SIM and MMC card dust gets in the camera. Also, I would like the time displayed on the phones main page, not just as a screensaver.
31 Limited Use So Far
What I was looking for in a phone:
1) Non-flip phone design small enough to slip in my back pocket
2) Picure ID
3) Good signal strength
4) Long Battery Life
5) Data synching capability
Results so far:
1) The 6230 fits this requirement perfectly. I hardly know it's in my pocket. The phone is still large enough to feel comfortable when in use (I find flip phones awkward).
2) This works OK, but the ID pictures are small. Also you cannot set a unique ring to identify the caller (this was a disappointment).
3) Seems good so far. Having an internal antenna does not seem to be a problem. I've compared this to a Motorola V400 on the same service plan, in the same areas, and the 6230 seemed to receive signal as well or better than the Motorola
4) So far so good.
5) I have not tried this yet, but at least it has the capability with both a PC and Mac.

When you see this in a shop it looks really good so I asked for one for my birthday. But 2 days after I bought it it went wrong and the video stopped working and the phone wouldn't turn on my advice is get a motorola v600 instead!!!
