Olympus 64 MB SmartMedia Card

One of the greatest advantages of Olympus filmless digital photography is never running out of film or never using it! Having extra reusable 8 16 or 32MB removable Olympus SmartMedia cards on hand means youll never miss a shot. Olympus SmartMedia cards are designed specifically for Olympus cameras.
Stop juggling multiple SmartMedia cards, and replace them all with a high-capacity 64 MB SmartMedia memory card. Olympus SmartMedia cards are compatible with any product that uses SmartMedia (3.3V). Olympus SmartMedia memory cards also make panorama pictures a snap by taking advantage of the panorama function in Olympus digital cameras.
1 I Want my Panoramic Pictures
OK, so the olympus cards are a little on the pricey side, but you definitly get a quality product in return. So the price is the only real obstical preventing a five star rating. I got the card because it does support the panoramic function on my Olympus camera. Imagine that, the Olympus SmartMedia cards are the only ones that are compatible with the Olympus Camera's panoramic function. That said, its worth paying the extra money if you have an olympus camera with a panoramic function, but wait for it to go on sale, that's what I did.
2 Reformat exorsices woes
With both a Olympus 64MB card and now a SanDisk 128MB card there's no fear of ever running out of media space even when traveling. The 64MB will handle 128 HQ shots (high def.), 665 SQ shots (standard def.) on my Olympus D-490 Zoom (2.1 Megapixel). The SanDisk 128MB Smart Media card twice as many. SHQ (Super-high quality) slows things down a bit.
The Olympus card started acting up a week ago: It would only hold 23 standard shots. Two calls to Tech support did not reveal a high degree of service and I learned they do not warrant the card. Fortunately reformating fixed the problem.
3 Great Price For This Card - Lots Of Pics
I'm no Ansel Adams - but I wanted a good quality card that was going to last a while. My 8MB was useless for quantity. I bought this 64MB (and another later) and found I could get:

664 SQ (Standard Quality) Photos-good only for web pages
199 HQ (High Quality) Photos-good enoug for small prints
71 SHQ (Super High Quality) Photos-great for good prints up to 5 X 7 inches.

This does not include 'panaramic shots', which take up more memory. I also shopped around and found that Amazon had the best prices. Of course, the 128MB card stores more pics, but the price jump was significant.

Don't worry about 'refurbished' media cards. They are just fine, cheaper and have the same warranty as 'new' cards.

I just shoot my pics and mail them off when I am on vacation. I never have to worry about getting my camera stolen or misplaced and losing my pictures. What else do you need?

4 64mb Smart Media Card
I have not received my camera as yet, therefore I cannot type a review or opinion regardng same. I will be happy to do so when I receive my camera.
5 Useful and cost effective
This 64 mb card is a useful accessory because it enables you to take more and higher quality pictures. Great when going on vacation.
6 GREAT DEAL!! LOTS OF PICTURES...
THIS JUST DOESN'T RUN OUT OF SPACE. I'VE HAD 65 AND IT STILL IS GOING STRONG.
7 A Premium Card... well worth the premium price
It didn't take long after I purchased my camera to realize that the included 8MB card was just too small. Was undecided between 64MB and 128MB until I saw the price of this Olympus 64MB at Amazon. I think I'll still get another (few?) 128MB cards from other manufacturers, but this one Olympus 64MB card is just excellent (for panoramas). Don't really mind paying the premium for the panorama capability.
8 One Great Card
I purchased one of the cards when I got my OLYMPUS c3040. The 16MB cards are too small for a camera like this. Now I don't have to change cards (or at least not very often). If you're shooting panaroma's at all, don't settle for anything less.
9 Check out the 128MB SmartMedia Card
Before you buy this card you may want to take a look at the 128MB SmartMedia cards. I personally purchased a Viking 128MB SmartMedia card (SSFDC3/128) because it was less expensive than buying two of these 64MB Olympus cards and having one card is very convenient.

Keep in mind that if you set your camera to the highest quality setting that each image will be around 6MB each. That would only be 10 images on this 64MB versus 21 images on the Viking 128MB SmartMedia card.

10 The Card DOES Allow You to Pick High Quality
Some one wrote a review that said you can't pick the high picture quality option when using this particular 64 meg card.... He was wrong..... it works on my c-3030... don't let him stop you from getting a great product. He is misinformed.
11 VERY disappointing...
First, let me say that I LOVE my Olympus Digital camera (460 D Zoom) and I love my Viking IntelliFlash USB Flash Memory Reader, both of which I bought... They are fantastic products, and for a beginner in the digital photography world, they are simple, yet offer speed and quality you will want to have as you get more and more involved in your hobby. I have bought a 32mb SanDisk Smart Media card, and I love that too. I decided to invest in the 64mb card because I started taking pictures at the higher quality selection on my camera. What I can't figure out is why my camera cannot select the higher quality mode when this memory card is in it. I am REALLY disappointed. Sure, I can take almost 1000 low quality photos with this card; I know that's amazing. But, I specifically bought this card for high quality (actually medium quality since it's only a 1.3 megapixel camera). I just don't understand why this wasn't stipulated in the product description.
12 Might not be worth the price premium
SmartMedia is sold under several brands. Olympus branded SmartMedia allows you to take "panorama" shots. Essentially, you take multiple shots while making sure to overlap edges. You then reassemble these multiple shots using the "Camedia" software that came with your Olympus camera. The difference is that when an Olympus brand SmartMedia card is used, your digital camera keeps exposure settings constant across these multiple shots; which makes for a consistent panorama when you reassemble the individual shots via your computer.

This is a nice feature, but not a feature most of us use often; for example, on a recent two week trip, I took 220 shots of which only 12 were panorama. If you are going to purchase multiple SmartMedia cards, you might be able to do with just one or two Olympus brand cards - especially since they cost more than other brands. I use two other brand SmartMedia cards, and save my Olympus brand cards for when panorama shots present (since you can switch the cards out at anytime - unlike traditional camera film).

Also to realistically determine what the price premium is, check prices for Olympus and other brand SmartMedia not only here, but also at other popular commercial sites.
