Olympus Camedia Brio D-230 2MP Digital Camera

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
1 Nice camera, good price, excellent for beginners
I chose the D230 for ease of use and low price and Olympus quality. This camera has met my expectations.

There are only a couple of improvements I would like to see. The LCD monitor is about useless in the bright sun (most are) but the view finder works well in this situation. There is also no battery meter other than a low battery indicator.

It's a sturdy camera with a nice feel. Small, lightweight, and compact. For 2MP it takes great quality pictures with little or no effort. If your looking for a great camera for point and shoot ease of operation you may want to look into this one.

I purchased mine on eBay from Olympus America for $81.00.

2 Whats not to like about this camera ?
To anyone who say this is a piece of junk, obviously they haven't taken the short amount of time it takes to learn about it and its features. The 230 takes great pictures and with the addition of a couple of 1800 mah powerex batteries you can take pictures all day long. In the past several months I have had this camera, my experiences have been nothing but great. Buy one - slip it into your shirt pocket and enjoy !
3 Great little digital camera
This is a nice small camera, not the smallest but a nice size. It only needs two batteries. What you need to do is get a battery charger and some NiMN batteries, and you won't need to buy batteries all the time.
4 Great feature to size ratio
I really love my Olympus Brio D-230. It is small enough to fit in my purse and does everything I would expect. I took it on a cruise and my pictures came out GREAT!
5 Really the best all around camera I have ever owned.
Can not say enough about this camera, ease of operation.Set it up and away you go.
6 Terrific camera, but beware of battery life
This is an amazing camera (save for the battery life) for an amazing price. While it does not have optical zoom, the digital zoom is better than most digicams I have used -- including my own Canon S100 "digital elph." The picture quality is simply superb and seals Olympus's reputation for producing some of the finest-quality digital cameras in the world. The operations are all easy to learn, esp. if you have used an Olympus analog before.

The only gripe is battery life, which is ridiculously short on regular alkalines. (On the other hand, it's nice to have a digicam that takes AAs.) Be sure to get lithium rechargeable batteries for this camera. They are more expensive, but they provide much longer battery life (so you can take the camera out on a day trip without hauling 10 pairs of alkalines) and can be recharged.

Once you get the batteries straightened out, this is simply the best-value digital camera on the market. I bought one for my wife and one for her uncle. Both love the camera. Highly recommended.

7 Great Inexpensive Camera
Very easy to use. Great picture quality.
Built in lens cover. Small physical size.
Would have given it 5 stars if it also had
optical zoom.
NOTE: All digital cameras burn up alkaline
batteries faster than you can say cheese,
this is not a flaw in the camera, it is a
complaint voiced by those who have done no
research prior to purchasing a digital camera.
I am very happy with the camera.
Also purchased 4 NiMH batteries and a 64MB
smartcard which will hold about 120 hi-res
pics...
8 Great camera for the money
This is a great camera for the money. It has a good lens, is easy to operate, and has a good selection of features. The image quality far exceeds the vast majority of point and shoot cameras. The small size and lens cover make it an especially good choice for keeping with you in your travels. Uploading images to your computer is quick and easy. Buy NiMH batteries and a charger when you purchase the camera, and you can avoid the alkaline battery woes. This is a great choice for simple snaps one can quickly e-mail to family and friends.
9 nice camera. slow shutter speed. great features.
this camera takes very nice pictures, even at night, but the slow shutter speed, makes it kind of difficult to time 4th-of-july fireworks pics. offcourse, you need rechargeable batteries. very easy to upload images, esp since you dont need to install any software. just plug into any computer, and you have your images. the highest resolution is great, as good as an actual print, but the images are large. overall very decent camera. also, be careful when buying cameras without a lens cover. this one has a nice one.
10 Great first digital camera
The camera has many easy to use features and is great for sharing Email pictures. Eats up batteries quickly but with a charger and Ni-MH rechargable batteries the problem is solved.
11 5 stars, if you know a little about digitals vs batteries!
Being totally new to digital cameras, I thought it was my fault that the batteries went dead before I could even get it set up. I put in new ones. Dead again in a couple of hours! Perhaps I wasn't keeping the lens cover closed. Two more batteries. Kept lens cover closed and monitor off except sparingly. Dead again! THEN I read comments from others. A person from Pueblo, Colorado wrote in caps..."NO DIGITAL CAMERA DOES WELL WITH ALKALINE BATTERIES! Use lithium or rechargable NiMhd." BINGO! Thanks, person in Pueblo! WONDERFUL CAMERA! Clear, concise pictures. For a relative beginner, with a small pocketbook, the perfect camera. But, fledgelings should be made aware of the battery problem. The folks at Olympus should tell us these facts. We shouldn't have to get aggrivated at the camera before we find out.
12 Perfect for a Casual User
I am not a heavy picture taker and had only been using disposibles. I had been unhappy with the photo quality of disposibles and had been scanning in the few good ones to email anyways. So when I saw a price break on this one, I grabbed it and haven't looked back. I absolutely love the ease of picture taking and transfer. The pictures are beautiful and it is just point and click. Because the camera is so small, I wind up having it in my purse most of the time anyways, so I'm taking so many more pictures than ever before. I don't feel guilty taking any picture that I want, b/c there's no cost involved with bad pictures, just delete them from the card. Two accessories I would recommend you would also buy:
1. a bigger card than the 16mb included (I purchased a 128 mb); and
2. rechargeable batteries....it makes it really cost free!

I highly recommend this for the casual users. There are a lot more features for it I have yet to avail myself of....but look forward to doing so!

13 Batteries!!!
I just got the Camera, Great Price, Great Camera, but the BATTERIES!!! They died when I was just setting the unit! Couldn't take a picture without buying a new pair of Alkalines, that also died after 10 Minutes! I just bought the A/C Adaptor and the Olympus B-50SU 4 AA Ni-MH Batteries and Charger! I hope that from now one, I will be able to use my camera without throwing Money away with Batteries!Olympus should not sell this Cameras with Alkaline Batteries, but with NI-MH STANDARD!
14 Fantastic camera
Fantastic camera. My first digital camera and I couldn't have made a better choice. Easy to and easy to UNDERSTAND! Pay no attention to unfriendly words about the 230. It is in a nutshell. Inexpensive, user friendly and takes a GREAT picture with eyepopping clarity and detail.
15 100% Mac Compatible
This camera was'nt listed on Apple's web site as OSX compatible, but Olympus's site said it was. It has worked effortlessly on my imac. It comes with the necessary cable, and works without even loading the camera software. Battery life is a non-issue:just don't turn on the LED. Picture quality is great, just point and shoot.
16 Great Little Camera
This little camera is so user friendly. I highly recommend it to anyone who knows nothing about a digital camera and would like to learn how to use one. The only problem I had was useing regular batteries. I would strongly recommend purchasing the rechargable batteries and charger at the same time the camera is purchased.
17 D-230
Very easy to use, I recommend buying the rechargeable NiMH batteries.
18 Can't get over how cool it is!
I've had plenty of cameras but this one takes the cake. It doesn't have any moving parts so it it very light and fits into your pocket. I hardly had to read the instructions to use it and I am amazed at the picures it takes. Yes, it can really go through the batteries fast, but considering the it is entirely electronic, I expected that. I am not a pro photograhper, just a guy getting ready for the birth of a baby, and I can't wait to fill up disk after disk with pics!
19 Olympus D230
This is a great camera for the price, it's even a great camera if it was more expensive. This isn't my first digital camera but it would be a very good camera for a beginner. I read a lot of reviews from newbies and they all complained about the alkaline battery life with this camera, so here is a little useful info. NO DIGITAL CAMERA DOES WELL WITH ALKALINE BATTERIES especially if you use the LCD all of the time which isn't necessary. Use lithium or rechargable NiMhd batteries for the best results. If the occasion arises that you only have alkaline batteries, just don't use the display much and even they will last a while. Buy this camera from Amazon and have fun.
20 Just excelent
It is my first digital camera but i have friends with very expensive cameras ($3000+). So I spent a lot of time reading reviews and consulting my friends. I've chosen this one and did never regrett it!
1. color balance is excelent
2. with NiMh battaries (1700Mh) I make more then 50-70 shots with display and flash.
3. the picture itseft is very sharp
Look at my pictures I took with D-230.
They were made with full auto mode
I made NO changes on computer!

21 Simply the Best for the Price
This is an awesome digital camera. At two megapixels, you simply can't get better photos. Who needs like 5 megapixels anyways, unless you're like a spy or something. hahaha... The draw back of most digital cameras is the fact that it is easy to blur your photos, but, you learn to fix it quickly. Although there are better cameras (especially ones with optical zoom, instead of digital zoom which is worthless), you simply cannot beat it at its price.
22 Simple & Capable
I just bought this camera along with some accessories to replace what would have been an enormous cost in developing film for my week-old daughter. The camera itself is a very easy to use point and shoot camera that has a relatively easy menu system that people wihtout a "gadgets" background can come to appreciate. It also offers some options pertaining to flash, picuture and movie quality, and more that I haven't even gotten to yet. I would recommend with this camera that you also invest in the listed rechargeable batteries (standard AA's don't stand a chance for much use but most cameras are like this anyway), a larger memory card (I got a 128 mb (simpletech) that can hold 92 SUPERHIGH quality pics), a card reader which makes it easier to transfer high quality pics to and from the computer, through the memory card, for editing, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 1.0, a user-friendly editing software.

Overall, this package has led to me and my wife producing only high quality pictures of our family to be put on paper and not wishing for 5 or 6 good pictures out of a 24-exposure roll. This camera is a great jump into digital photography.

23 Not a best choice for this price
... Compared to the Fuji camera, Olympus Brio D-230 is not a good one. The picture quality is not very good, especially when you take photos in not very bright environment. However, the pictures taken by Fuji are very good and real. The digital zoom is not a good choice either. Another bad property of this camera is its low battery life.
I returned this item because it didn't meet my expection.
24 Easy to use
Works as easy as a disposable and takes pictures like the finest 35mm.
25 Your basic digital camera...
I wanted to join the rest of the technological world and buy a digital camera. I needed to keep up with the times and send pictures of the wife & kids, dogs, new house, and roadtrips via e-mail to my family 2000 miles away. I own two Olympus 35mm cameras - so I stuck with a brand name I knew. Outstanding photo quality... up to size 8x10. It has a "Quickplay" video feature. The menu is fairly easy, so you won't spend to much wasted time trying to figure things out. I've read many reviews here complaining about the short battery life... newsflash people - ANY digital camera is going to do this. Invest in the rechargable batteries. The ONLY problem I have with this camera is the zoom. The digital zoom simply increases the picture size... as to an optical zoom bringing you closer to the action. Great camera, great price... and the great name of Olympus.
26 Nice Camera
This camera is a great camera for the price. Just set yourself up right with re-chargeable batteries, or lithium. The alkaline are ridiculous.
27 Olympus Camedia Brio D-230
If you are looking for a fantastic digital camera for a reasonable price, this is the camera for you. I know people with higher megapixel cameras, and the photographs I take with the 230 are just about as clear. I was really impressed by the macro mode. I get crystal clear close ups. Its features include a movie mode... something other 2 MP cameras don't really have. Alkaline batteries don't work well with any digital camera. Buy the rechargable batteries. They'll work just fine. The digital zoom also is just fine. If you want super wazoo features, save up and buy a [more expensive] camera. You get plenty of bang for your buck with this camera. Highly recommend.
28 Dont Waste Your Time or Money
i ordered the olympus d230 from amazon...when i opened the box, the camera had a blue blotch on the lcd display. although this has nothing to do with the cameras quality, let me go on, please.

i very quickly found out the difference between digital zoom and optical zoom (which the camera does not have-optical). OPTICAL IS BETTER. digital only enlarges the picture which really makes the quality poorer. the body of the camera is flimsy and feels as if it will break easily. the batteries included in the box you say, dont last 10 minutes!!!! the lag time between pictures is about 3 seconds which [stinks] (and i am a first time user who isnt that picky, honest). the memory card was ok, 16mb. the options were poorly constructed.
i returned the camera the very NEXT day. one GOOD thing is that the return procedure was VERY simple.
overall, this is a camera i would buy for my 13yr. old brother. not for an adult.

29 Good Camera, Alkaline Batteries Not Usable
Odd that this camera should come with alkaline batteries. They lasted 10 or so shots. I put new...Duracell alkalines in, and they lasted about the same. The results seem excellent, though I have yet to try it outdoors in daylight. I will try the lithiums, and get back to you. I bought a Samsung 64 mb smart media for it, and it works fine...Aside from the stupidity of giving the consumer alkalines, which don't work worth a darn, the camera seems good.
30 A great camera for the price!!!!
I love this camera. It is easy to use, easy to download. Just use lithium batteries and you'll be all set. Great price for the camera. Even has a "movie" mode. My 14 year old daughter uses it and loves it!!! She emails pictures to friends all the time!!!
31 one of the easiest to use
Olympus d series digital cameras are very easy to use.
The one i have takes pics reasonably quickly for a digital.
It stops the action of a moving seen quite well, even
driving along in the car!

Hint: Only use the lithium batteries, alkalines will not
be suitable for this camera even though it might be
packaged with them. With lithium i did just fine.
The auto downloading usb works great. The camera is
small and light.

It shows the pic you just took immediately on the lcd screen, a
big plus for my peace of mind. I print up to 5x7 or 8x10
on photo paper, looks very nice for a 2.1 pixel camera.

You do not need to use the program or any program for that matter to download from this camera. All you need is the driver on the cd disk the first time and then its automatic from there.

32 Nice camera but it burns through batteries like crazy
Just in setting up, understanding how to use it with twenty pictures taken and downloaded to PC, I used 3 sets of brand new Duracell alkaline batteries, and the 1 set of alkaline included in the box (they lasted three minutes). You have to buy lithium or rechargeable.

Otherwise nice camera.

33 Great Camera
This was the best camera I have ever used. In fact i gave it to my family for presents for Birhtdays! The only problem was that I couldn't take any more pictures once the film ran out of exposures. Any ways it is a good buy and I would reccommend it to anybody who loves to capture images.
