1 Steer clear
Got this player as a gift a year ago. I've had freezing problems with this player, sometimes from slightly scratched rental DVDs (which play fine in any other player), and the whole unit locks up (sometimes with garbage displayed on the LED display). When this happens you need to pull the plug, as the power button both on the remote and on the unit itself becomes nonresponsive. Have also had some problems navigating the menus on some discs ("From Hell" comes to mind.) This player also has problems playing DVD-R discs -- I have had it play RITEKG04 discs fine but sometimes it will freeze or pixellate during playback of DVD-R. Had no luck at all with cheaper Princo or BeAll blanks. Haven't tried DVD+R, it may work better. If you want to use this player as an audio CD player, note that it doesn't play CD-R at all.
2 Disposable DVD Player
Is this a disposable DVD Player? I used it 5 times and the dvd started skipping. The 6th time it was nonfunctional. Maybe this was Oritron's, "one use and throw it away model." Forget the one star this should be zero stars. It should be called Orbit-ron because after a week you will want to throw it into the orbit.
3 Do not buy
I have used this DVD player maybe 15 times, and now it does not play DVDs. I received this as a gift, so luckily I did not pay for it. This is by far the worst piece of electronic equipment ever.
4 JUNK...DON'T BUY IT
I got this DVD player for a gift. I played 3 movies on it. The picture quality was poor, the directions to use it were poor, and now it doesn't work at all! It won't even open to put a DVD in it. This DVD Player is a real junk, don't buy anything with this name on it!
5 Break off the edgecrusher
This is a good DVD player. It has everything you need, at a price you can't beat. It's such a good buy. It's easy to set up and easy to use. A great first DVD player for anyone who is thinking of getting a DVD player. I wouldn't use it on my HDTV home theater, but if you just want something simple that looks good, this is the one. It has good sound and picture for the price. Haven't had any problems with it, what can I say I love it. It was cool.

6 Poor reliablity
My Oritron 100 DVD player stoped functioning after 21 months. The player would accept the disk and take ten minutes to load with the reading disk indicator showing on the TV screen. The DVD player would not play the disk or eject the disk when the remote or front buttons were pushed on the machine. I loved the player but in retrospect I got what I paid for and would not recomed this unit. Spend a little more and get a better unit.
7 Terrible DVD Player
The Oritron dvd 100 is a terrible choice. Mine lasted only two years, and I didn't play too many dvd's on it either. Furthermore, after a year, the remote didn't function, and it wouldn't eject half the time.

Maybe mine was a bad one, but i doubt it. I do not recommend it. Also, it has no S-Video output.

8 a hit-and-miss product
I have owned my oritron dvd100 for approx. 18 months, and overall, I would say it has served me quite well. It has had many problems, but none that rebooting it didn't fix. The only major gripe I have with this product is that it will not play vcds. There is a way to "enable vcd playback" in the menus by hitting a special combination of buttons on the remote [...] but I still have had no luck with it. The other major issue I have is not with my oritron, but with the one my sister bought, it worked for about a month and then stopped, and nothing seems to make it work again, it won't even eject anymore. So all in all, I would have to say be careful with the oritron brand, make sure you can return it if it doesn't work right off the bat.
9 DON'T BUY THIS ITEM!!!!!!!!!!!
My review will ditto the rest. This unit completely stopped working after using appoximately 4 times! It is no longer under warranty...a huge waste of money and time. Shame on Oritron for putting out such a terrible product and most importantly for not standing behind it's own product.
10 Don't ever buy an Oritron product
I bought the Oritron DVD-100 and it broke a week after the 90 day warranty was up. I tried to find a website for Oritron - there is none. In looking however I came upon a customer survey website... which had many reviews of the Oritron DVD-100 - 99% were negative. Check this site out for yourself before buying. I had difficulty opening the tray from day one, but I was able to pry it open after a while. It continued to give me difficulty. And then literally the week after the warranty was up the audio stopped working. Usually the price is better than Amazon is selling it for so it looks like a good buy, but it isn't. Also, they have now started selling the same product under the brand name Qwestar. I would look out for that as well...Do yourself a favor, wait a little longer, save the extra [money] or whatever it takes to buy a different brand.
11 Would rate it zero if I could.
This is a total piece of ... . I went to a rent to own store to rent a DVD player. I originally had a Panasonic RV-30 that had broken and since I was just past the warranty they wanted me to pay to have it fixed. So the rent to own place brought this Oritron dvd player. Brand new. I had it about a week and a half. Played alright with some minor skips, then all of a sudden just froze. Wouldn't turn off, wouldn't eject the movie that I had rented. Fortunately I had not bought this junk at a store, so I took it back to the rent to own place. They said "This is what they gave you?" They had to pry the door open with a screwdriver to get the movie out. This is a terrible product. DO NOT BUY THIS THING!!!
12 Consider Yourself Warned...
if you buy this product then you get Exactly what you deserve...
this is a piece of junk... do NOT buy it... I wish I were as smart as anyone reading these reviews BEFORE buying something... I baught this from wal-mart and we were able to watch about 5 or 6 movies on it... then it entered into it's disfunctional state... couldn't turn off... couldn't read a dvd... called oritron support... they sent me a cd to update the bios... did that... and that caused the unit to become totally unresponsive... can't even eject the bios upgrade cd... shame on oritron for puting out a product like this... I will never purchase another oritron product... I won't even take one as a gift... I'll exchange it unopened no matter what it is... oritron is DONE... I could type for another 30 minutes about how angry I am about this... but I'll just end it with... Consider Yourself Warned...
13 NOT a bargain
Don't be tempted by the price ...since within 6 months I had to buy a replacement for it. This DVD player is of very poor quality, even for a low priced unit. It skips and freezes, the picture is poor, the sound is poor, it is difficult to hook up, especially if you also have a VCR hooked up to the same TV, it responds slowly, if at all, to remote commands, it is just plain buggy....and then it just quits. Oritron does not stand behind their product (for obvious reasons) and offered no help (once I reached anyone). A HUGE waste of time, effort, money and stomach lining. ...
14 for 10 Months use
This unit was my first DVD. I was looking for a low cost model just to watch movies. This unit was on special at an electronics store for [dollar ammount]so I figured "not much to lose". The unit was purchased in February 2001 and worked fairly well. Picture quality was good and the audo output feed sounded ok through my TV's Dolby system. About 5 months after purchase I began to have problems with the unit not responding to the remote or to the on-panel menu buttons. About a month later a while viewing a movie the unit skipped about 40 miutes of content. After checking the DVD at the rental shop (it played fine there) I rented another DVD and it appeared to play fine.

The final shot came in December when I found that the unit would not turn on or open the drawer. At this time all I see are the red power light and the green function light. Not much entertainment there. I am looking for a replacement model but I would be very careful abou trusting Oritron again. I would look at a more recognizable name

15 AVOID AT ALL COST
I bought this unit as a first time, inexperienced buyer. While it worked well 3-4 times, it stopped working. I have now gone through 5 units in ten months. I bit the bullet and bought the Sony NS300. Only a few bucks more, better picture and sound, and it works. Just my opinion.
16 Gets the Job Done
The Oritron performs exactly what it was built for: To play DVD's and music at an average quality level. This is not a high performing device; it's cheaply built. Anyone expecting more from it will be dissapointed. Watching DVD movies is all I do with it, so that is why I didn't spend twice as much on a Sony or Panasonic. The Oritron is smaller and lighter too, giving you more options to place it in various locations through out your house.
It has 3x zoom, repeat, disc resume, parental lock, and some other minor features. I have no problems with the player it self, but DVD discs that are very scratched may cause it to freeze up. Just unplug and restart and it may play like a normal disc. If you want better picture quality from this cheap player, get a RCA Monster Cable 2, it will make the picture quality a lot better. I saw it was sharper, brighter and more colorful. Overall, this player has been good to me, and it was a bargin in my opinion.
17 Not Very Good
I got this DVD player as a gift. I have had problems since it came out of the box. No ever owning a DVD player before I thought this was normal. I have come to find out it has a defect and does not cooperate most of the time. I have talked to the company and since my player was already a year old I could not get a free replacement. I only have known it was defective when they told me it was. I dont really think this is fair since their product is guaranteed. Here are a list of problems I have had:

1. No Sound: instead of playing the sound of movies or CD's it makes a popping noise

2. Song Skips: While trying to play a CD in it's entirety instead of going through everything it will skip 2 to 3 track in the playlist for no reason.

3. Picture or menu Freeze-Ups: This is the weirdest of them all. When accessing movies with interactive or motion menus before i can make my selection the screen will freeze up and sound will stop and then i must unplug the whole unit causing trouble and a headache.

4. Music CD speed up: This problem seems to happen a lot too. When i play a CD even scratch free ones it will speed up and make a weird skip sound.

All in all this unit is confusing and uncoopertive almost all the time. it is pretty much a waste of money seeing as you have to find out whats wrong all the time. If you have the same problems i feel for you.

18 Good Bargin Buy
We bought one of these last spring. It has been a fairly reliable DVD player for less than $150. The colors are crisp and clean. There are some drawbacks. There is no S-Video output. Also, the remote isn't back-lit, and is poorly laid out. There's no optical output, but that's to be expected. Overall: a decent buy for movie watching, but home theater buffs should move to a higher tier player.
