1 Reliable phone
This model is old now, but if anyone is still thinking about getting it, it is a good phone. This phone is known for good reception. The sound quality during conversations is excellent--very natural and about as good as a landline.

There are some very advanced features that I never got into. The advanced features aren't very intuitive, but if you like using your brain to figure out technical stuff, these features could be fun to figure out and use(sortof like a puzzle). One downside is that the color screen is not as rich as new sprint models.

I had the phone for over 1.5 years and just recently got a Samsung because I wanted a clamshell. I am somewhat regretful as the sound quality on the Samsung is noticable inferior to the Hitachi. I think the best thing about this phone is how it functions as a PHONE (i.e. clarity/reception).

2 Nice Little Phone
I had this phone for about 5 months now. It has great feature, especially the loud speaker. The key guard is also very handy, just press the joystick for a sec. Don't really like the flashing light at the back, it reduced lots of my call time. But you can always turn that off.
3 High Marks!
I've had wireless phone service for years. This Hitachi/Sprint PCS phone has, so far, been my favorite. It's very light, it's packed with features, and the price has been excellent. It's especially easy to silence the phone, via a separate switch on the top, without having to punch any keys. Another plus is that this model accepts standard sized headset jacks...many mobile phones do not.
4 very good phone
pros:
--good overall sound
--excellent speakerphone(very clear, reasonably loud, and easy to carry on conversation from both ends)
--screen(bright, full color, larger than most (160 X 120 pix)
--intuitive interface along with mouse stick for navigation/gameplay/volume control.

cons:
--built-in email client useless because it usually fails to connect to retrieve or send mail (only connects 1 out of 10 times).
--flattened keys do not allow keying by feel, forces you to look at phone to do things like voice dial, end a call, or turn on/off speakerphone or on/off mute.

5 Great phone - better support would be helpful
I have really enjoyed this phone - it has been reliable and has great reception. The screen is awesome. The lack of accessories has kept me from spending money that I don't need to spend. However, the phone's interface with PCS Vision and PCS Business connection is not intuitive, and the phone doesn't display the access options that the PCS website tells me to access. Therefore, the phone does not ghost my office Outlook (which is the sole reason I upgraded.)
6 Disappointed with Hitachi and SprintPCS
Looks like a great phone. Has several features that can make anybody's day. However, being Hitachi's first every mobile phone, it does have it's problems.

I got this phone four months back and it served me well. But one fine day, it won't charge anymore. Turns out that using Hitachi's charger designed for Hitachi's phone bends the charging pins on the phone after a few months of usage. Talk about a flimsy piece of equipment. No one has parts for this in Austin. Forget repairing it if it breaks. No wonder it only costs $110 now at the sprint store compared to the black and white el cheapo LG 1200 phone which is $100.

Try something else. And oh, surely skip on sprintpcs while you are at it. While I have to persist due to the huge termination fee, I'd surely recommend avoiding them. Their customer service folks can't be trusted. It's one thing if they don't give you what you want. They say that bent pins are not covered in warranty, even though it's quite obvious the designers of the phone chose crappy quality connectors for the purpose. Connectors should not die in four months of normal usage. I don't have a sledge hammer at home.

It's another thing if they say they are going to send you a new phone on warranty and the next time you call up, after a week of no service, they say it's not on the records, we didn't say we would send you a phone, we aren't sending you anything. And this is not the first time they had amnesia over what happened in a previous conversation.

Let Hitachi make a few more phones and gain some experience and give sprint a few decades to improve their service and attitude before you invest your time and money on them.

P.S. I rated this three stars because it is a nice phone otherwise. It actually has useful features, decent battery life and a sensible menu. At more than one instance, I felt the Hitachi folks had actually looked at other phones and their shortcomings before building this one.

Hitachi, if you read this, use one of those pronglike connectors to charge your phones instead of one of these sleazy flat connectors. And do some testing on these high usage aspects of the phone before shipping them to me. Thanks.

7 This phone rocks!
Other then the size, this is the best cell phone I have had. The email software is really good. The speakerphone function works well and the reception is better than my last two phones.
8 Not the greatest phone I've owned...
but then again, i still miss the motorola startac i originally got with my sprint deal. i'm not too big on accessorizeing my phone, so i could care less if there's no mods or leather carrying cases available for this model. i live in san francisco, so only thing that i'm looking for is reception. i had a samsung a460, probably the worst phone on the market right now (most of the other samsungs seem cool, but stay away.... far far away from the a460). the hitachi is great, as far as reception goes. my calls no longer consist only of my friends complaining about not being able to hear me. the volume on the phone is pretty good. the only complaint that i have, and this seems to come up with a lot of phones recently, are the selection of ringers that come standard. overall though, this is a quality phone. the only people i'd tell not to buy this phone are those who need analogue... the hitachi's single band.
9 Where do I put my phone
After purchasing the Hitachi p300 I have not been able to find a case of any type to carry my phone, Sprint did not have any available and no one on line has any Hitachi stuff. So if have an empty pocket you would be okay to buy Hitachi, looks like i'll be returning this model for a more popular one that has a line of carring cases and such..
