Cordless Action Controller
1 Almost perfect!!
This is a great control, the batteries last long (I think even more than 50 hours without vibration) and it works almost perfect. I would have given a 5 star if the X bottom didn't stay pressed down (sometimes) when I am playing. Maybe is the logitech design that the X bottom doesn't work always right. The orignal ps2 control, in the right, the bottoms( square, triangle, circle and x) are on a flat surface and that's why it works great. But this logitech design, the surface is not flat that's why the bottoms don't work as good as the original ps2 control. They should design a better control, but with flat surface for the bottoms to make it as functional as the original ps2 control.
2 Best replacement controller - cordless or otherwise
I'm glad Logitech fixed the D-pad functionality with this new controller. I had an older (corded) Logitech controller where it was almost impossible not to generate a diagonal move when all you wanted was a pure up/down/left/right input. It made fighting games and even some shooting games impossible to play. Fortunately, this model doesn't suffer from that defect. The buttons and joysticks have a good crisp feel with slightly (and I mean very slightly) more dead space under the buttons than the standard Sony controller. By this I mean that fraction of a mm that you have to push down on the button before the plastic 'cap' engages with the sensor under the button is little bit bigger. I got used to making more definitive button pushes to adjust for this.
With the AA batteries in it, this unit has got pretty good heft. It's bigger size makes it more comfortable for adult hands than the stock Sony controller. The additional weight is actually a nice feature because the controller feels stable under my thumbs without my needing to squeeze as much with my other fingers. The plastic also has some texture to it (unlike the smooth, glossy plastic on the Sony controller) that also makes it easy to hold onto. Those two features mean less hand fatigue since you don't have the grip the controller so tightly which makes for very comfortable extended gaming sessions.
I've been using mine for about a month now and have never noticed any lag or glitchiness in its response. This is a great relief to me since the room is full of other wireless gizmos like cell phones, cordless phones (also 2.4GHz) and wireless routers. Works great with the 'shooter' type of games (SOCOM, Splinter Cell, etc.) that I like to play online. The first set of batteries (included) is still going strong even with the vibration function on. This is a great controller for the PS2.
3 Greatest Third Party Controller Made
I read these negative reviews on this controller, and I honestly wonder why theirs doesn't perform flawlessly like mine does. Us military guys are known to break everything and go through equipment like its nothing. I have yet to manage to break this controller or find a flaw. It's fallen from my desk countless times, I spilt a drink on it, even my rucksack fell off my bed and landed on it and there was no problem with it. As long as you maintain the batteries in it (50 hours should keep you goin for a while if you are a casual gamer, and if you're a hardcore gamer then you should be used to spending money). Another note to mention is not all wireless routers will interfere. My router is aprox. 6 inches away from my PS2 and still the controller functions as you would expect. If you need a controller don't waste time getting the sony dual shock when Logitech has a surperior pad.
4 Until Sony cuts the cord, this is the best you can get
I am generally leery of using third party accessories for my video game systems, but I am making the sacrifice for this controller. I don't think it is possible to fully realize how nice it is to have a wireless controller until you use one. You don't have to look at ugly cords hanging from the system when you leave your controller on the floor. If you have kids, it's a necessity because they love to pull/sit on/trip over cords that are hanging around while you're playing. I would love to see Sony make their own cordless controller, but until they do, this is the best one available, and I have tried several.
One of the biggest selling points for me is the D-pad. Every other third party controller I have ever used has an inferior D-pad...they generally tend to insist on making one big D-pad instead of dividing it into four separate buttons like the Sony controller. This results in errors - when you push up, you move right or left half the time. This isn't a huge issue with many games since the D-pad is not used much. But there are some games (Tony Hawk, fighting games) where the D-pad is essential. This one does the job just fine. Which is great, because I got sick of having to switch controllers every time I wanted to play Tony Hawk.
One thing to note - there is an earlier version of this controller that you might find someone trying to sell. Do not buy the older version. Everything I said about the D-pad is not true about the older version. In fact, it has one of the worst D-pads I have ever seen. It uses more batteries, the analog sticks do not have good grip on them, it is HUGE so it may be difficult to use if you have small hands, and the receiver is just a pain (...)because it has a cord attached to it.
5 SPEECHLESS.....but I'll give it a try anyway!!
What can I say!?! This is the BEST toy I've bought for myself. I originally wanted it not only for it's marvellous distance capabilities, but because I have a puppy who does NOT like to be two inches away from me!! Everytime he ran across the floor, SLIP went the cord...So when I finally received this glorious exemplery piece of engineering, I was blown back by all the greatness that came along with it!
First of all, no one will actually need the 30ft range this bad boy provides. It was a bit overzealous i believe to add that feature, but friggin sweet nonetheless. Like they say, "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it..."
Second, I was quite surprised to find the two AA batteries included in the packaging. That is always a nice gift.
Third, and I base this on extensive research and not necessarily experience, the base of the signal port that connects to the actual console does not protrude offensively beyond a standard size memory card. In fact, it may very well be shorter than the standart plug in port for the Playstation wired controller that comes with the console.
The buttons feel like any other Logitech device I've owned, stiff and sturdy, but not hard or too wabbly and slippery and not sticky at all, which is a nice feature when playing games that demand quick reflexes and massive button smashing!! They provide a pleasant surface area and are not too big.
The ONLY complaint I have is that the D-pad is webbed. I personally am quite fond of the separated d-pad buttons on the Playstation controller included with the system simply because my main game of choice is Fighting games (Tekken, Street Fighter, etc), and the webbed plastic between each direction (up, down, left, right) causes some confusions as to whether or not I've landed the correct direction accurately to execute a move. Sadly, it has caused me a few defeats already...
I've yet to experience any time-lags, but with the 2.4ghz signal, I don't think it's even possible. Wireless routers and modems are just as strong, and those devices range in the near hundreds of dollars.
This product is a cool, slick designed masterpiece that should not be overlooked by the avid gamer. Exceptional engineering and kicking features that should blow you away. GET ONE NOW!!!
6 Both worked great until they broke
Bought a wireless and loved it for the few weeks it worked until the joystick broke. Bought another one and guess what? It not only broke but in the same place! This one lasted a few weeks as well.
7 THE BEST WIRELESS CONTROLLER, PERIOD!
If you're looking for a wireless controller,
for your ps2, look no further! I've had two
of them, for 7 months now, and they work great!
I have a 65" t.v., so I want to sit back as far
as possible. They work as good as the wired ones,
if not better. I haven't changed the batteries in
either controller yet, so you know the battery life
is great too. You will love these controllers!
8 Best controller ever
I bought one of these about a year ago when they first came out. It is by far the most comfortable, most responsive, and most controllable controller I've ever used. I tried going back to the stock ps2 controller to compare, and it doesn't feel nearly as natural in your hand as the logitech.
Also, battery life is great with or without vibration. I do suggest picking up a good 15 minute rechargeable battery set though. You can get a great one for about 20$ and never have to buy batteries again.
Verdict: Awesomeness
9 By far the best PS2 controllers I've owned
I have an old PS2, bought when it was first released here in the US. Despite a few dings and scratches it still works fine. Sadly the same longevity cannot be said of most of the controllers I've owned for it. I've had both Sony dual shock2 controllers as well as 3rd party controllers. The Sony's worked the best. Most of the 3rd party controllers I've used have been pieces of garbage. Regardless, with any of the wired controllers it has never been an ideal setup.
My couch is over 10 feet from the TV, thus requiring us to always sit on a chair or the floor if we wanted to play the PS2. In addition, with small kids running about there was always the danger of one of them tripping over the controller wires and bringing the whole unit crashing down.
Not anymore. Based on the reviews here, when our last controller finally died, I decided to take a chance and invest in 2 of Logitech's wireless 2.4 GHz controllers. I have most certainly not been dissapointed.
Now the family can sit in comfort on the couch and play away with no worries about tripping kids (or destroyed PS2's). There's no noticable lag, nor have I seen any interference problems from the phones or the 2nd controller. All in all it plays and responds beautifully.
The design is close to Dual Shock2 controller, but not the same. Truthfully I prefer the slightly different grip of the logitech controller. In my opinion it makes holding the controller, while using the 4 shoulder buttons, more comfortable. Additionally Logitech does away with the four directional buttons, in favor of a directional pad (raised in the 4 corners for similar use). This has the added benefit of making diagonal button pushes a bit easier.
I've only had them for about a month now, so longevity is still in question. However, based on their resonse, comfort, and battery life, I'd say Logitech definitely seems to have a winner here.
10 It would be good if it worked consistently
I've owned this controller for less than 4 months, and all of a sudden, the receiver and controller aren't connecting properly. It just sits there trying to find a signal, no matter how close I move the controller to the receiver.
It used to work flawlessly. I read that sometimes other 2.4GHz devices may interrupt the signal, but I have such a device (a cordless phone) in my bedroom and it worked just fine until now.
So basically, everywhere I go people say this controller is so great, and the company Logitech provides LITTLE TO NO SUPPORT on the product. They just have documents that say how great the product is. Pathetic.
That is what bothers me the most. The fact that the company does not provide support. The darn thing DIDNT EVEN COME WITH A MANUAL.
10 thumbs down on this. I can't forgive a company that will not give adequate support for its products.
11 Good for a wile
When I first got this controller in early Jan. '05 I loved it for all the reasons given in these reviews, but now after having it for a few months it has become exceedingly frustrating. The first problem was the R1 button would occasionally stick, then the up button on the d pad, which I only use for menu selection and not during game play, began to work sporadically. Now the R1 button sticks 90% of the time it is used and recently the controller lost it's signal during game play with no way to control, pause etc. I have since switched back to the standard controller that has over 4 years of aggressive game play with not so much as hint of a problem. I would strongly discourage anyone from wasting there $30 on this controller!
12 Skeptics Rest Assured, This Controller is THE One
When I first got my PS2 about 4 years ago, I went out and bought a wireless controller almost immediately. Long story short: I returned it the next day. It was terrible. Most importantly, there was an obnoxious delay. It was also oversized and awkward.
So when a move of my A/V rack to faaaaar away from my TV necessitated wireless controllers, I was concerned. Having been severely disappointed before, I got on Amazon and read some reviews and this one came out the winner. So I bought one to try it out.
This time, instead of returning it the next week, I went out and bought another.
This thing is great! It is light, comfortable and everything is well thought out. It turns itself on with a push of any button, it turns itself off automatically, it links to the receiver perfectly every time, no lagtime, really, I can't find one thing I don't like about it.
I have generally found Logitech pieces to be better engineered than their competitors, and this is no different. They really did think of just about everything, and made it compact and comfortable--more so than the originals.
Battery life is great, and you can turn off the vibrations to extend it even further.
Really, this is THE one.
13 This is the wireless controller to get for the PS2 !
At first I did not ever think I would need a wireless controller but after setting up my new slim PS2 in my bedroom I realized that I was working with a limited PS2 controller cord length that had to stretch across my entire bed and over a major walking path. I also had some anxious visions of someone tripping over the regular controller cord while I was playing a game which would result in my new, lighter and slimmer PS2 flying off my dresser and onto the floor. If you have children that run around where you have the PS2 console set up then using a Logitech wireless controller in place of the corded one may prevent these kinds of cord related accidents from happening. Before I made my purchase I had read the reviews here online at Amazon and I talked with a sales representative at the store. Most gamers enthusiastically recommended the Logitech wireless controller over the other brands of wireless controllers for the PS2.
PROS: Excellent design, officially licensed by Sony for the PS2, the feel including the dual shock effects and game play with the buttons is so responsive and so similar to the regular PS2 controller that you forget that you are using a Logitech wireless and not the regular PS2 controller. It eliminates the hassle of having a tangled mess of cords connected to the machine which people could trip over. It can be used as a wireless remote for playing DVDs or CDs instead of using the Sony infrared PS2/DVD remote. Everything you need including the two batteries are included in the package. When you press a button it turns-on automatically and it turns off or enters a near zero battery usage "sleep state" when it is not used. This feature extends the gameplay life of the batteries for up to fifty hours or more.
CONS: It costs more than the regular PS2 controller. A tendency to break when dropped on a hard surface has been reported by some users. If you need to use a headset for online gaming you may need to purchase a separate very expensive wireless headset device such as the newer Logitech designs (they currently cost about $80 retail). This controller uses ever popular and crowded 2.4Ghz frequency band which under certain circumstances has been reported to cause problems with other 2.4Ghz devices such as routers, cordless phones, etc.. However, I have not experienced any problems at all with the the other 2.4Ghz devices in my home such as the phone, wireless router, etc. .
CONCLUSION: This has to be one of the most satisfying purchases I have made for any video game system I have ever owned. Once you have tried one of these Logitech wireless controllers you will understand what I mean. Despite some reported problems with 2.4Ghz band devices and supposed durability issues the advantages to using one of these far out ways the negatives. If you are really paranoid about its durability or you have children that are rough with the PS2 controllers then simply get a 2 or 3 year extented warranty and service contract for about a $10 extra cost from your local electronics chain where you make this wireless controller purchase.
The bottom line...FIVE STARS ! I very highly recommend this item for all PS2 owners.
14 Very bad wireless controller
I bought the Nintendo GameCube Wireless Controller and It's so great I thought all future controllers should use wireless technology.
My wife gave me this controller as a gift. From the first time I used it the controller had problems communicating with the PS2 receiver. After it fell down from the couch the first time the analog pad stopped working. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.
It seems that the golden still applies. Only buy controllers that are made by the console's maker.
15 Incredible!
Can't believe how quick and accurate this controller is. I've been disappointed before by other wireless products, but Logitech really seems to have this technology down! This thing is so amazing, that I keep motioning as if there's a wire attached to the controller whenever I shift my feet. This is also by far the best price anywhere... I've seen this same controller elsewhere for $50.
16 Amazing Controller, Amazing Product Support!
Received this controller as a gift, after much hinting and requesting on my part. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I opened the gift and found this controller.
My excitement was short-lived, as the controller didn't work properly. I installed the batteries and plugged the receiver into the machine, but the right analog stick wouldn't work. Some games it registered only downward motion, others it didn't register any motion at all. Needless to say, I was crushed.
I phoned Logitech's customer support, and after hearing my tale, they sent me out a free replacement within 3 weeks. The new controller works perfectly, and set up only took about 5 minutes.
This controller feels the same as the regular DualShock PS2 controller, only lighter. The receiver is very small, fitting into a single controller slot and only protruding a little more than a memory card.
The batteries are included, and they are supposed to last over 100 hours (with the rumble feature turned off). I have not had any problems with the new controller, and am as happy with its performance as I am with its wired counterpart.
17 Excellent performance, but not very durable
I absolutely love this controller. There is no difference in performance compared to a wired controller. It is heavier than a wired controller, but I actually like the added weight. It is very comfortable to hold, and the buttons and joysticks are very precise.
HOWEVER, it is not very durable. My daughter knocked it off our coffee table (a drop of about a foot and a half) and it has not worked right since. Retail price is around $40, so that really hurts.
As much as I like this controller, I probably won't buy another one. Durabiliity is really important when you have young children in the house. I would give it 5 stars for performance, but the durability problem brings it to 3 stars.
18 Awesome Controller - No Wireless Router Interference...
I also run a 2.4 ghz wireless router (Belkin, fyi) and have several 2.4 ghz cordless phones, but did not experience the same problems as the previous reviewer. I even sat next to the router while playing and using the cordless phone at the same time with no interference, so it may be an issue with specific model types - caveat emptor. {Perhaps you might consider changing the channel your router signal broadcasts...just a shot in the dark suggestion}
As for gameplay, I've gone through the original dualshock controller, an EA Sports controller, and a Mad Catz controller. All pale in comparison to this model.
Response time shows no delays, button spacing/placement is fine, and the grip/finish is superb. Battery life is great - I've played 1 full season of Madden 2005 and one full season of NCAA Football 2005 on the same batteries (with vibration on!), and still going...
For around $5 more than a new PS2 Dual Shock, you can't go wrong. Wireless makes a huge difference. If only they installed a POWER button on the remote as well...(actually, some guys at TechTV dot com have a post on installing that option yourself, using the chip in a garage door opener, lol).
When friends come over to play Madden/Tekken 4, etc, winner gets to use the cordless. That's the best example of how we rate this product. I will be buying another one soon.
19 Wireless Router Users Beware!!!
This is a great controller. But if you have a wireles router in your house, or if a nearby neighbor has one, there's a good chance this controller won't work. Both this controller and a wireless router (like linksys or D-link) work on 2.4 ghz frequency, which means that the router interfears with the wireless connectivity of this contoller. It'd be nice if Logitech made a controller that utilized a different frequency, but they don't. I experienced lag that was so bad, it made my games unplayable. But as soon as I turned off my router, the contoller worked fine, so I know that it was the router that was causing the problem. It broke my heart because this is a fine controller with rave reviews. Just a heads up.
20 Kudos to Logitech
Absolutely flawless controller, and a significant improvement over Logitech's previous version of the PS2 controller -- this version is lighter, smaller, uses half the batteries, and features a much better design for both the controller and receiver. It may be too soon to talk about durability, but I've been using mine happily for almost 4 months of heavy play now and the buttons still feel as responsive and springy as ever.
The only way I could think of improving on it now is if it beeped when you clapped so you could find it when it's lost behind the couch.
Do not hesitate! This is an outstanding product by an excellent hardware manufacturer.
21 Perfect
Just buy it! No problems what so ever. 30 foot range, works with all games so far.
22 Great Controller!
The wireless logitech controller for the ps2 is everything i thought i would be, and then some. No longer do you have wires dangling from the ps2, down the floor, and then to where you are playing. You have unlimited range, well 30 feet to be exact. But compare that to the 10 feet or so that the regular controllers offer. ONE downside, although not that big of a hassle, is that IF you get mad and decide to throw your controller or if you just drop it, you cannot just follow the cord to find it. Just keep it in a spot you will remember it, and you will be fine. I heard people saying that the control had a slight delay, so that if you were to hit X the game would not read that for about a quarter of a second. NOT TRUE. The controller performs perfectly with no delays, and is just GREAT overall!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended!
23 Excellent Wireless Controller
I've had a couple of wireless controllers in the past - from pelican. The Logitech wireless controllers are light years ahead of those that I've used previously. The analog acurracy is exactly what is required by gamers and doesn't leave you frustrated from inputs that you did not intend. Also the d-pad is great. You will not be disappointed with this item. Also it does not interfer with my 802.11b wireless network.
24 Great controller.
I purchased this PS2 controller to use for my PC games. Using a ps2-usb adaptor, this controller is great! No lag, great response. Ergnomically, the controller has a super feel to it, similar to the Microsoft sidewinder gamepad. I've used gravis & microsoft game pads, and this one tops them all.
25 Great product
Was casually looking for a new Playstation2 controller because I always manage to rip the rubber off the joystick. I was intrigue, and a little skeptical, about this cordless. Decided to purchase it because had wonderful luck with Logitech products. I have always had outstanding customer service with Logitech products. This gamepad is brilliant. Absolutely no missed, and I mean none, commands. Even when I am in the opposite side of the room, playing backwards with a blanket over my head. (Just testing it) The freedom is awesome and I dont worry about my dog, daughter or wife running in front of me. No rubber boots to rip off the joysticks also. This is the best gaming product I have ever bought.
26 Best Thing Since Sinced Bread!
I just picked up one of these bad boys today after beating the crap out of my old PS2 controller (literally). After that all I had left was some really cheap Dual Impact 2 controller that was literally a huge piece of junk, i would have would have to push buttons 2 sometimes three times to get anything and plus it was uncomfortably bulky. Well I started researching on the internet for wireless controllers, figuring it was probably time to upgrade, I was a little wary of buying any 3rd party products or cheap controllers, because with this sort of stuff you literally do "get what you pay for".
Anyways I heard some good reviews on this Logitech wireless controller and figured I would give it a shot, I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse for my PC and enjoy them so figured they make pretty good stuff, plus I discovered that this is actually an official Playstation licensed product so it has their stamp of approval and even says Playstation on the controller. Let me tell you, it was probably the best $30-$40 bucks I have ever spent, this thing is amazing, it beats the crap out the orginal Dual Shock 2 by Sony in every since! Now I have only had it for one day but I love this thing. I feels better than the Dual Shock the buttons push better, the triggers feel better, the sticks move and feel better and the rumble is better! This thing just rocks! You can use it up to 30 feet, and you can save battery power by turning the rumble off from the controller.
A few reviewers complain about the D-pad, and what not I have no compaint, it is different than the Dual Shock but I like it I think it works just as well if not better. So my advice is go out and buy one of these, I'm going to get another someday soon for when I have people over so they don't have to use my other crappy one. Plus if your like me and every once in a while you get the urge to propel your controller into the air or againt solid objects you will think twice because this is a nice controller and cost you a little bit of cash. So trust me once you go wireless you'll wonder how you ever got along with what you had before.
27 Great Controller... But has some faults
As a semi serious gamer and an owner of a couple cats I really opted for the wireless controller. When I went to go buy them I saw that logitech made one. Of course knowing about logitech's reputation I immediately just grabbed them right of the shelf.
As for the controller, it's great the response is great, and the battery life is really unbelievable. If you get a couple rechargable AA's you're set. When the batteries do get a little low there is a little frustration, cause there's no way to kno, it would have been nice to have some kind of warning light or something. The only indication is that the controls get kind of tricky, so if you're in a middle of a game and about to kill the end guy, it really can goof things up. But in the grand scheme of things that's a really small draw back.
The biggest problem I've had and I don't know if I just got a couple lemons or it's something I did. But I've gone through a couple pairs of these. Once my girlfriend spilled coffee on it so that wasn't the manufacture's fault, but after that it was just normal wear and tear. There is a bonus that they have a one year warrenty on them so make sure whoever you order or buy them from you can take them back.
Even with the drawbacks and the fragility of the controllers I would never go back to the corded. The feel and convience outway a lot of the cost.
28 Nice controller, better than the original?
After watching the cordless controller market go from horrible to (seemingly) good, I decided to take the plunge, and ordered the logitech. I'm glad I did. To be honest, even if it was corded, I'd still like it better than the original PS2 controller. It's heavier, more solid, and fits better into my hands. Plus the matte finish, as noted by others, helps avoid the sweaty-controller syndrome. The controller has shown no lag whatsoever, even during fits of button mashing. I guess the only downside is that I can't grab the cord and repeatedly slam the controller into the sofa when I miss a putt in Tiger...
29 Great except for D-pad
This controller works great until you decide to use the D-pad. The big problem we see is that if you press the D-Pad control and you get the tactile feedback of the button clicking the push may still not register. You have to apply more pressure to the pad beyond the point at which you feel the click. As a result your control is severely handicapped since you never know if you've pressed hard enough. My 8 year old son will not use this controller because of this way the D-Pad works.
The analog joysticks are very responsive. The problem is only with the D-pad.
30 THE BEST HANDS DOWN
This is the best feels just like the ps2 controllers, no delay, battery life last a very long time it will surprise you, there is no other controller to have if you have a baby in the house its the best just give it a try you'll never go back I'm going back to the store to buy another one hehe
31 Nice!!!
After the regular controller got yanked out of the console several times by my nephews or myself, I decided to purchase this thing.
I was sceptical about this thing having a delay. But to my suprise, it had absolutely NO delay at all. I am able to stand on my balcony twenty feet from the console and it still works awesome.
It has the same basic look and feel as the regular controller, so you don't need to get used to it at all. Plus it has a sleep mode it goes into after a period of non use, so you save battery power.
This is the best thing for the PS2 since San Andreas.
32 Best controller for PS2
I bought my PS2 last October and wanted a 2nd controller. I bought the Logitech because I respect the company. I expected it to be almost as good as the original Sony controller, but it is much better! I find whenever I have guests, I give them the logitech controller and curse the PS2 one. It is faster, more responsive, more comfortable in your hands, and, of course, not chained to the PS2 with wires. If you don't use the vibrations, the batteries last a very long time (it says 300 hours, 50 with vibration).
My only complaint is that occasionally it wants to lurch forward within the game. Haven't figured out what causes this, but it is only slightly annoying.
33 Best wireless controller for PS2
I've wanted a wireless controller for some time now, and tried the ones from Mad Catz and another brand, mostly because they were cheaper. I'd have been better off buying this straightaway and saving money on those "bargains."
Wireless controllers generally have lag and dropped signals. You try to make a turn in a racing game... and you ram into the wall. You try to fight the boss monster... and you stand there while hea whales on you. Stuff like that. With the Logitech, none of that happens.
The advantages of a wireless are countless. Some are obvious; others, more subtle. My main application is MMORPGs on the PS2, and having to put down a controller to type means that the cords get tangled. Worse, if I put the controller on the floor to run to the kitchen or answer the phone, I inevitably trip over the cord. (Admit it. You do too.) If I have a cat on my lap during gaming, he gets tangled in the cord too. And if i's particularly cold (I turn the heat down to 55 to save gas), I can be huddled in a sleeping bag but my hands have to be outside to work the controller, as the cord won't stretch that far.
$40 later, everything is solved. I just toss the controller on a pillow while typing or making food. My cat has no dangly things to annoy or interest him. And I can wrap completely up in a nice warm bag, the controller in with me, only my head sticking out!
As a controller, it's better than the original equipment; the buttons and joysticks have a good feel to them, and the grips are a little larger than the Sony units. Actually that's one of my only complaints: Larger still would have been better, and I'd have loved to have found a rubberized grip. Furthermore, I dread the day when I misplace it and have to find it-- borrowing a page from the cordless phone whose technology this uses and putting in a "locate chirper" would have pushed this one over the top into the realm of Killer Products. (You can add an aftermarket signaller, meant to find remote controls and keys. I think The Sharper Image sells one, and you can of course look on Amazon.com.)
I ought to point out that this automatically qualifies for Amazon's free shipping-- it doesn't sell for any less in retail stores, so this is the place to buy it.
Can't say anything about battery life; I haven't used it that long. And the distance I have been using it at is less than ten feet, so if you're an across-the-room gamer you might have issues. (To be fair, the other controllers were spotty even at a three-foot range.) And there might be problems if you use more than one wireless controller (though there is a channel change button on the front of the receiver which plugs into your PS2). Finally, when I buy an Xbox wirelss controller (and I will, the PS2 one sold me) it'll be hard telling them apart; the controllers are like the Model T, "any color as long as it's black." Choice of color might be something to think about.
As it is, though, it definitely earns its five stars. I have seldom been so pleased with a product. Logitech will be my first choice for future peripherals.
34 Better PS2 Controller than expected
Well you won't go too wrong with this controller here as it's performing better than any other PS2 controller I've used so far. It fits comfortably in your hands, the response time is fluid, the analog sticks and buttons perform as well as Sony's DualShock 2 if not better. My only complaint would be the D-pad. Where sony's has the 4 way d-pad protuding from the controller for better location of direction, the logitech one has 8-way pad which could hurt if you need to pinpoint a certain location and at times feels stiff. The wireless adapter is sleek and lights up green for each button press or directional change. The Vibration function is very strong and can be easily tuned off. Also the finish of the controller itself is smooth and should prevent sweaty palms. If you want the best performing controller for the PS2 and are sick of wires, then this is the only product you should spend your money on.
35 Better than the original
This control is perfect easy to install, fluid motion no lag time. If there is a lag it
Means the batteries are low. Better response time than the control the system came
With but with no cord to tangle and its 100% PS2 compatible.
36 I agree with almost everything said
This controller is great. It has very good feel for my adult hands. My only complaint is that the D-Pad registers 8 directions instead of four. For a more adept person that might be great, but I often find myself going, say, down and right when I simply meant right. If I could turn that off, I'd give it 5 stars in a heartbeat.
37 The wireless controller you've been waiting for.
Ever since video game hardware and accessory makers got the inspiration to create wireless controllers, it became the case that they always managed to screw up at least one of two things on each new design: either the controller is awful, or the wireless aspect is worthless.
Nintendo changed all that with the release of their Wavebird wireless controller, the first wireless controller that worked as well as, and felt just as good as, the wired controllers it was meant to replace. So the Gamecube got an excellent wireless pad on the first try... not so with the PS2. Sony refuses to take a hint from Nintendo, and so leaves the development of wireless pads to third-party developers. The end result has been a steady stream of crappy pads. Logitech's first controller had excellent wireless response, but had an awful controller design. The Pelican wireless controllers seem to exhibit just a little bit of wireless lag. And the Airplay controller drops signal randomly.
But this, Logitech's *new* controller, bucks the trend, and finally gives us a wireless PS2 controller that stands up to the task. It's well sculpted, so it's comfortable in the hands. Even with batteries, it's a good, balanced weight. The directional pad is simple and reliable. The face buttons have a nice, tactile click, without being too stiff. The sticks aren't as domed as the Sony pad's are, but they are textured, so your thumbs don't slip off, and the translucent blue orbs that the sticks extend from look pretty cool (too bad they don't illuminate!). The controller itself also has a kind of matte texture which seems to reduce, if not eliminate, Sweaty Palm Syndrome. As controllers go, this is a good one so far. But how is the wireless performance?
Well, the good news is, *it rocks*. I've noticed no lag whatsoever, and no signal dropouts. The rumble feature is quite adequate, and the battery life is outstanding (50+ hours on a set of 2 AA batteries). The range is more than most people will need (30 feet or so... now I can play games from my kitchen!), and the receiver unit is surprisingly small. I'm used to big, ugly wireless receivers sticking off of my PS2, but this thing is tiny... only barely larger than the actual connector piece from a wired controller, in fact. Neither the controller nor the receiver has any kind of "channel" setting, so I was somewhat worried that only one of these could be used at a time. I seem to have underestimated Logitech, though... apparently, the controllers are smart, and can self-adjust, finding frequencies far enough apart so that they don't interfere with each other. Brilliant.
This is a great controller in every aspect. Highly, highly reccommended.
38 The best in the market
I have been using this for a while and this is the best cordless controller out in the market. The battery life with just 2 AA batteries is way too good. No lagging in the gameplay at all. Very Happy with this controller.
39 Best Controller
Sorry, no technical description in this review. Just so so happy about this product.
This controller definitely doesn't insult the sensibility of the demanding gadget lover as well as gamer. My PS2's value intrinsically doubled with the addition of this option. I cannot explain how ecstatic I am about this controller in so few words.
40 Great WireLESS controller
BEST wireless controller nothing came close to the Logitech Cordless Action Controller. Good size for extended hour gameplay. Very good range no lagging. Highly recommended
41 VERY nice.
Sure, a little pricey, but worth it. I did some online review hunting and this seemed to be the one to get. Was a little tricky finding it through Amazon's search, not sure why. It's great. Feels nice, substantial but not heavy, buttons don't feel cheap or gimmicky. I'll never go with a cable laden controller again. Never drops out, connection solid. No problems. Battery life is pretty sweet too.
42 Fantastic!!
One thing I always hated about game consoles was the constant tripping over tangled wires. Wires intersecting each other, making a mess of things.
Enter the Logitech Cordless Action Controller!! This is without a doubt one of the best controllers I've ever used! The controllers is very well made. The feel of it is very natural in your hands, though slightly different than the original PS2 Dual Shock. There's a nice satin like finish that prevents alot of dirt from your hands from making the controller too slippery. There is literally no notciable lag or delay in the controller's operation. The controllers 2.4 ghz signal ensures that you won't miss any of the action. Every function of the original is reproduced faithfully. Installation is extremely simple. Plug the reciever into your PS2's controller port and simpley press the action button to get a signal. There is also a button on the reciever to make the connection if needed. The battery life (the controller takes two AA batterys) is approximatley 300 hours without the vibration mode and 50 hours with the vibration mode on. A small sacrifice to make for a great product such as this.
I really can't say enough good things about this product. It's great if you have small children in the house especially. No more worrying if they are going to trip and drag the console across the room. In fact this is such a great controller I'm considering buying a second!
43 Best wireless controller EVER. Heck, best PS2 controller.
Buy this.
I guess I should elaborate since I do have 1000 words to work with, but the basic point is this controller is awesome. If you're like many people and wanted a wireless controller for your PS2 but were scared of the brick and a half sized previous Logitech controller, fear not. This is the smaller, cheaper, and better little brother of the monster wireless.
It's VERY comfortable. I'd almost say I enjoy it more than the original. While it's basically identical in size, I prefer the curves a bit more to the PS2's original harder angles. If you have some kind of silly infatuation with the Dual Shock though, it's not like you will be let down, it's a very small deviation from the standard.
And for the first time that I've experienced with a third party controller, this thing doesn't feel like plastic you'd find in most dollar-store products. It's sturdy, has weight, and the sticks and buttons feel awesome. Sticks are SLIGHTLY less rigid than the DS2, but they're more firm than the DS1 if that helps.
After 2 weeks my batteries with rumble are still working just fine, so it's not like after 10 hours this thing's asking for more juice.
Just buy this thing already, you shouldn't even be reading this far. It's the best wireless controller EVER. Yes, even better than the Wavebird since they didn't skimp on the two-way transmission - meaning this controller has rumble (don't buy Nintendo's BS about battery life, they just made it transmit one-way). Rumble is good, it passed the rez test.
D-pad is kinda disc shaped but strangely it works VERY well. If the original DS2 D-pad was 100, I'd give this in the 90s easily, which is about 50 points higher than any other 3rd party D-pad.
Like most of logitech's products, it's even licensed by Sony. But that's sony, they're followers, not leaders, though we never should've been without good wireless for this long.
