The DVD-LV60 portable DVD player from Panasonic offers popular home theater features like Cinema Mode and Dialogue Enhancer in an ultra lightweight and compact package. Convenience features include high-speed smooth-motion scan, auto switching field/frame still, forward and reverse frame advance, and chapter preview. With twin laser pickup, regular-format CDs as well as home-recorded CD-R and CD-RW media with MP3s can be played along with your DVDs. The LV60 player is equipped with S-video outputs, Dolby Digital and DTS output, standard audio/video outs, and optical digital-audio outputs for convenient connection to a TV and audio system. An easy-to-use joystick-type control is featured on the unit. Nothing brings home the cinema experience like DVD, including the enjoyment of rich theater like sound. But sometimes a movie's soundtrack can overwhelm a scene and even drown out the dialogue. The Dialogue Enhancer feature conveniently solves this problem by boosting the volume of the center channel, where most of the principal dialogue emanates when playing a Dolby Digital 5.1 disc, by 6 dB, so viewers don't have to strain to hear the actors during a noisy scene. The Cinema Mode feature is sure to be a film aficionados' favorite. When selected, Cinema Mode enhances the picture by reducing glare, softening resolution, and improving visibility of details in dark scenes, resulting in a more realistic, cinema-like image. The model DVD-LV60 features an impressive 5.8-inch 16: 9 widescreen LCD monitor and built-in stereo speakers. It is expected to deliver up to three hours of playback time (on the lowest brightness setting) from a single charge from the included rechargeable battery pack. The Panasonic DVD-LV60 is Energy Star compliant and comes with audio-video cables, an AC adapter, and slim remote control.
1 LV'it...
A brilliant portable DVD player I must say. The image quality is excellent (with quite a big screen for the price..)Supports all region DVD's and te remote control is a handy tool also. I am only disappointed in the fact that it does not support JPG files and that the menu is quite restricted (you can scroll through i.e. mp3-files, but it can't show a listed menu. And I suppose this can't be changed in a 'sofware-like'way. But nevertheless...it plays your DVD's fine...
2 Mine died after 4 months.
Mine had no trauma to it. I just loved it and got it on a sale...Just last week though it would not power up with the power cord or the battery pack. Make sure you buy the extended warrenty!
3 Best piece of technology
I have yet to receive my LV-60, however, ive tested them out and read a ton of reviews. I am a young female electronics lover, and whenever the new things come out, it is hard to hold back. When portables first came out for [money], I thought...there's no way I'm ever gonna get one of those (although I wanted one...the shiny exterior and deeply crisp screens are hard to resist). I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with DVD, however, the battery does not last long enough to get through a movie, which means there is really no point at all...and it's a computer...which means it has to be kind of big and a hassle to take out and put away...you can't just start it up for the 15 minutes before the airplane takes off, and then have to shut it down..restart...etc etc etc. I do bring it along to watch movies at the hotels on a decent sized screen, but for being constantly on the road..and long flights, the portable DVD offers so much more (and a much finer picture). The Panasonic LV-60 is the one. It is one of the only ones that several stores have said they haven't had returns on. An extra battery for [money] seems worth it, it gives you double the watching time and basically all batteries for electronics are this price, or more. If you like Friends, you can get those DVDs, pop them in this player, and be entertained for hours....you can travel from North Carolina to California without even thinking "are we there yet?". A headphone splitter is inexpensive and well worth it, to share with your neighbor on the plane, or friends/family members who also get bored as hell. This is how I see it...summer is coming up, everyone is gonna travel, right? You've been good, you've worked hard...add to your vacation by indulging you and your family a little more than usual...you won't be sorry. This time when you're on the plane, people will be staring at YOUR silver and blue slender treat, instead of the opposite. If you'be been wanting one, this is the one to get...the most asthetically pleasing and functional portable entertainment system out there, without blowing a ton of cash. I'll follow up when I receive mine...
4 Awsome little gadget
I looked for MONTHs to find the perfect portable DVD player. One that combined quality, size, durability, and aforibility. I came out with this one, and I'm very happy with my choice. The picture quality isn't perfect, but I don't really know what to compare it too. It was very easy to work. I took it right out of the box, plugged it in, and watched a movie. (If you're watching a movie with no battery it uses the wall outlet as its power source, if you're not watching a movie, it charges the battery) The only problem, even though its very small, was that I had trouble getting the battery in the remote! And unfortunately the remote doesn't have a volume control... but its not THAT terrible. This comes with a cord to plug the player into your TV, and the quality of this is just as good as any other DVD player. Another thing I like about this player is that is allows you to write VCDs and play them. Many players have copyright locks and don't allow this. But because of this, I can burn VCDs of home videos and play them on my DVD player! Its great... In conclusion, this is the perfect player for just about anyone. There are a few kinks, and the screen isn't as big as some of the other players... But so much makes up for those little things that you won't care about any of it. Great job Panasonic!
5 The BEST...
This Panasonic LV60 is simply the best unit in its price range. I originally bought the LV70 which has a 7" screen, but only plays DVD's or CD's. The L60 plays DVD's, Video CD's,CD's, CDR's, CDRW's and MP3's!! And the screen is only 1.2" smaller... The sound of the L60 is superb. There's VSS Cinema mode which improves sound thru the center channel. Though I have BOSE noise cancelling headphones and the sound thru them is also superb. The L70 is a wonderful unit as well, but now you're talking a bit pricey. Don't bother checking out the Sony FX-1, you will be disappointed, especially with the sound (what sound?). This L60 is compact, lightweight, comes with battery pack (attaches in such a way as to not make the unit any higher), an AC adapter, video cables, and also comes with a very sleek remote. If you want to pay more than what this unit costs, you're better off getting a laptop! Remember, this is a "portable dvd player". It should be compact, and this one is! A lot of stores are sold out of this product...because it simply is "the best"! Hope this review helps you in your purchase!
6 The little Theater
I love this product. If not for the automatic return default, back to the smallest screen on power up, instead of keeping your size setting's, I would rate this a 5.. But all in all buy it..
7 Good looking, good value, and great performance
I spent several weeks pondering whether to buy a portable DVD player and then took the plunge two weeks ago. For me, this seemed the best combination of portability, price, features, and performance -- and I haven't been disappointed. The screen is bright and the sound is excellent (when listened to via headphones; the speakers are OK). The unit has some features that may not initially be apparent. For example, (1) you can turn on a setting to make it emphasize dialog, (2) it will read CD-RWs, and (3) it "remembers" where you were on the DVD, even if you've removed it -- so you can watch a DVD on the plane, remove the DVD before landing, reinsert it at the hotel, and the scene starts exactly where you left off. The LV-60 is well engineered, thoughtfully designed, and a pleasure to use -- in short, definitely worth considering if you're thinking of buying a portable DVD player.
8 I enjoy this DVD player
My wife gave me this DVD player as a gift for the holidays. I was really surprised. I've gone on several business trips with it and have truly loved having it with me. The picture is very sharp. The unit is small, about the size of a walkman or so. The battery lasts around 4 and one half hours, or enough for two average movies. I've dropped it twice now with no damage. The sound is pretty good without earphones and very good with earphones (none come with the unit which is my only complaint).
The remote works great. And since the unit plugs into my home TV, the Panasonic DVD-LV60 doubles as my home DVD player as well!
In short, it is lightweight yet durable with a sharp picture and very good sound. A terrific item!
9 perfect lil' player
player is JUST the RIGHT size for travel, but it DOESN"T come with a car adapter, case, or EXTRA battery( the bad news)......remote can be used ONLY w/ adapter(bad news)...remote can function across room. no need to aim DIRECTLY at player!.....player gets EXTREMELY HOT within 30 mins.(a warning?)....can also plug into vcr (av) outlets to view dvd's on YOUR tv ( enclosed booklet states NOT to plug into vcr...a misprint?? )...
10 Panasonic DVD-LV57 Portable
If you're looking for a portable DVD player, the DVD-LV57 from Panasonic is a great choice. The small 5 inch screen shows crisp, clear images with vibrant colors. The sound is also good. I saw no drawbacks with this little unit and am extremely satisfied with it's performance in every way.
11 Perfect Dual Use DVD Player
I wasn't sure that this portable DVD player would also serve as an in-home player but the connectability and features are exactly what one might expect from a console player, particularly if you're not making a huge home theater investment. This is a perfect, easy to use and seemingly durable (I've only had it for a week) player. The downside appears to be that accessories, available directly from Panasonic, are proportionately more expensive than the player itself. Example -- spare battery was (just slightly under three figures) from Panasonic.
12 Incredible Product - questionable casing
First of all, the screen is great. Disregard those who say the screen is too dark or too light, you can adjust the brightness from +5 to -5 levels. Color is adjustable too. I can find no dead pixels either. The sound through the built-in speakers is adequate but not impressive. The sound through headphones will blow you away. This VSS (virtual surround sound) stuff ROCKS! One thing that you can't find in reviews, the battery snaps on to the back and NOT the bottom like most others, so the case height isn't affected. This machine also gets HOT on the bottom, I am a little worried about that, the manual says that it can cause BURNS!!! The battery life also lasted a good 4 hours for me on its first charge.
THE BAD: The dvd lid seems a bit cheap to me, it warps when you press the top buttons that are built into the lid. The screen has a tendency to whack the drive when you close it, even carefully, and that makes the DVD player skip every time (when I have it hooked up to the TV).
All in all, the goods definitely out-weigh the bads. Buy this thing ...
13 Best portable dvd player out there
I'm just a kid who has struggled to get one of these dvd players until finally I did. This portable dvd player I have to say has the best resolution out all most portable dvd players out there. Sure it is a 5inch but it has a much better resolution than most 7inch dvd players. Not only does the lv60 have a good resolution but it has a four hour battery. Depending on the condition of the battery sometimes lasts longer with the lowest brighting setting. Mp3 playback is awsome as well. The tiny speakers give an average sound , nothin special but if you use headphones It's out of this world. Also get a earphone splitter, you'll find it at Radioshack , to have two people hear through earphones. I highly recommend this dvd player and it's cheaper than most portable dvd players.
14 Good value, good buy
Having had the Panasonic DVD-LV60 for a few weeks, I'm very satisfied with the product. Good battery length and lightweight. However, beware that there are two versions of this player. One has MP3 playback and one does not. There are no clear distinctions between the two, so be sure to check carefully!
15 A Really Great Portable DVD Player
A few years ago, I noticed the first Panasonic portable DVD player advertised in a magazine. At a hefty [$$$] dollars I knew it was out of my price range. That it, until recently when I saw an advertisement for one at only [$$$] dollars. That was when I decided to purchase one. By that time, there were about twenty models, ranging from the Panasonic LV-50, the oldest model, featuring a 5-inch screen, to the Sharp DVL-80U with an 8-inch screen. Most of these models were not available at stores near me so I could not see them in person. I was able to see the Panasoniv LV-75 and the Panasonic LV-60.
The Panasonic LV-60 was the best model I could find for a reasonable price. I was also looking at the LV-75, but I found that the screen quality was lower. The LV-60 sports a 5.8 inch screen, which, while smaller than some models which offer 7 or even 8 inch screens, I found that it worked well in the airplane, and I could see fine. I am very impressed with the screen quality. The colors are vibrant and the shapes are defined. In some places, I could see a few wavy lines in the background, but much less than in the LV-75. I played a variety of movies ranging from Toy Story to Jaws, and that picture quality was excellent and suited my viewing tastes. I want to reemphasize that the 5.8 inch screen (which is measured diagonally, not across) was large enough to be able to see everything, and get involved in the movie. My only complaint would be that I had trouble reading the cast bios in the menu because the print was so small. However, I feel this is a mute point.
I thought the sound of the LV-60 was very good. The speakers are not enough to be heard on an airplane. When I watched with my friends on a plane, (we were unable to use headphones because there is only one headphone jack), we were forced to use subtitles to understand the dialogue, we could, however, hear the music and effects, justthe dialogue was hard to understand. However, when I used headphones, everything was loud and clear. The Virtual Surround Sound (V.S.S) option worked very well with some movies, I could hear the helicopter in The Fugitive going over my head, but the V.S.S did not do anything in other movies. There is a dialogue enhancer function but I have not tried it because with headphones it is unnecessary.
I was very impressed with the battery length. Panasonic claims the Lithium Ion rechargeable battery lasts four hours on lowers brightness setting. I was skeptical and I thought I would never use the lowest brightness anyway. However, I was able to watch The Fugitive, Jaws, and most of Toy Story, on one charge. That adds up to over five hours. I was watching on minimum brightness, but I have to say that there was very little difference between regular and minimum brightness. I could see the movie fine and there was no problem. It took about five hours to charge the battery, as the manual declares. Please note that you cannot charge the battery while the player is running.
While on vacation, I plugged the LV-60 into the T.V in my hotel to see if it worked well. The included cables worked fine in connecting to a T.V. The quality was excellent. The remote worked well and had all the functions of the player itself. I thought the buttons on the player were well conceived. Instead of the jog control seen on the other Panasonic players, the LV-60 has a knob that is used as directional control and the enter button. I also liked the blue highlight on the player, which is featured only on the LV-60.
..." I definitely suggest you shop around on the Internet to find the best price. My recommendation is that you find a store in your area that carries whatever model you are thinking of purchasing so that you can see it, and find out if it works for you. You should also read all the online reviews you can to get an idea of what each model is like.
**UPDATE-I have now owned my LV-60 for approx. 6 months and I am still very satisified with its performance. The battery consistantly gives me 4 to 5 hours of viewing time per charge (on lowest brightness setting-it really is not noticeably worse than the middle brightness setting)which has pleased me to no end. The one qualm I have had with this player is the nagging fear that the battery will eventually die ( the manual claims it lasts 300 uses but I somehow doubt it). I heard tales of 300 dollar spare batteries which worried me.
However, In recent websurfing, I discovered that the price for a spare battery is now only [$$$]dollars. This is still a little pricey but it beats out the other Panasonic models's battery prices by at least [$$$] dollars. I only mention this to keep possible buyers from being mislead into believing that spare batteries are overwhelmingly expensive. I wish all of you luck in finding the right player
16 Good Companion
This is a good DVD player for road trips and plane rides, or any long travel at all. It offers a crisp color screen. The only problem that I didn't like about this DVD player was how I had to constantly move the screen to get rid of any kind of glare. Otherwise, I loved this. The battery life could be a bit better, because even at the lowest brightness setting, I couldn't finish some movies because the battery would die out. I liked the S Video jacks because I could hook my camcorder up to the DVD player and watch some home videos. All in all, this is a good buy.
17 A great "plays everything" portable
This unit has got to be the best portable unit ever !!! It plays dvds, vcds of music videos I download from the net and burn on my computer, mp3s (up to 320kbps for sure I can't remember if I have tried vbr though)along with regular audio cds. Both cdr and cdrw are no problem. For the last couple days I've been using this unit in my jeep to play mp3s and it hasn't skipped ONCE in the 5 or 6 hours it's been bobbing up and down on the passenger seat. The connections are about average for a portable: line, optical and headphone audio outs, composite and "s" video outs(you'll need to buy the special s-vid plug from panna,it's not included) the unit also has video in. Although I havn't run it straight through, It seems the manual is pretty close when saying battery life of 4 hours with the screen and 6 with it off. It's a thin, light, unit and the battery pack is a quick snap on and off. Of course the proof is in the pudding and you can tell panasonic has been doing this portable thing for awhile. The picture is excellent on the 5.8" screen and the sound is fantastic on everything, I was especially inpressed with mp3s, the decoder is top notch. If there is any downside it's the lack of a 7 inch screen but I don't mind it especially considering the added value of mp3,vcd playback.
this thing is in a class by itself !
