1 Great for CELL phones too!!
This headset fits great on the head, and has a microphone boom that goes right to the edge of the mouth for loud and clear speech pickup. The incoming audio is also loud and clear, and the speaker fits comfortably over the ear. The headset is large and sturdy -- perfect for the home, office, or car (it is too large to carry around on your person, however). It appears to work with any cell phone that has a universal 2.5mm jack. A fantastic headset for the price!
2 finally found a cordless to use this with
I bought this headset partly based on positive feedback of others. It is a simple design which I like. It works well with my Nokia cell phone. It did not work with a Motorala cordless 5 ghz phone. Oddly enough it did not work with a Panasonic cordless phone either. Both microphone did not amplify nearly enough. I did hook it up to an Olympia 2.4 ghz cordless phone and it works great. Too bad the cordless phones aren't more standardized.
3 May not be compatible with 5.8Ghz cordless phones
I purchased this headset based on the reviews and price. However, the headset did not work with my 5.8GHz, AT&T 5840 cordless handset. There was considerable static and I could not be heard well. I checked the product package and it stated that the headset is compatible with 900MHz and 2.4GHz analog/digital phones. There was no specific compatibility information on Amazon.com so I had no reason not to think it would work with my 5.8GHz phone. Many reviewers have said that the KX-TCA86 is not as good but for me that is not the case. I purchased this headset at Best Buy after checking the package and seeing that it was compatible with 5.8GHz phones. I can be heard perfectly (better than from the handset I am told) and I can hear perfectly. So if you have a 5.8GHz phone I would stay away from this headset and get the KX-TCA86 instead.
4 Outstanding for the price
I'm shocked of the quality. I tested with several people and they had no idea that I was using a headset.
5 Excellent Value
This headset is incredible for the price. Other headsets running around $60 may offer more bells and whistles, but if you're a low maintenance kind of person like me, then you don't need them. This headset gets the job done! It fits comfortably, so you forget you have it on, and the volume is just fine. I like how it plugs into my cordless, so I can go where I want with my hands free.
6 Unbeatable for the price, beats some expensive models too!
As a web consultant I spend a LOT of hours on the phone at the PC doing customer support. Headsets are a part of my daily life, many hours a day, and I go through them like socks. Over the past 5 years I've tried many brands/types ranging from $9 - $70, and I keep coming back to this very inexpensive old reliable KX-TCA60. Granted, the $70 sets are nice, but it's not so nice when you roll your office chair over them and watch $70 go down the drain.
This headset is the best I have tried for under $30 - the sound is clear, it is comfortable, and the boom is nicely adjustable. Since I tend to inevitably break my headsets within 12 months, I'm happy with only spending about $10 a year on this product. It beats the $30 Plantronics I recently bought hands-down.
7 Worked great until it died
I only had mine for about four months before it stopped working all of a sudden. Even tried switching phones to no avail. Before that it worked very well. I had picked it up to use at my office because so many people say that it works well with Panasonic phones (I've got a 5.8ghz cordless - the Panasonic KX-TG5050W).
Pros: people said that they could hear me clearly, and it did a good job of blocking out background noise. Great value for the price.
Cons: I really expected it to last more than 4 months! It would also be nice if it had a mute button.
8 OK, but check your phone
This seems like quite a bargain, but keep in mind that it may not work well for all phones. I tried using it for my Motorola, for example, and it doesn't really work, you have to fiddle with the plug constantly since if you plug it all the way in, it doesn't work. Again, seems OK but just not for all phones.
9 Very good headset
I have tried several headsets for my cordless and cell phones over the past couple of years and this is by far the best. The only drawback I can see is the physical size, it doesn't fit very well into my pocket or purse to carry around. But the sound is very clear, the earpiece fits snugly, so you can hear the caller very well. The microphone works well, others can hear me very clearly. I do tend to run my fork into the microphone occasionally, if I'm eating during a conference call or something, as it wraps all the way around to your mouth. Others I've used stopped about halfway down my cheek, so this one takes a little getting used to. But I recommend it anyway!
10 Very pleased
I've never owned a headset before, but I've been very pleased with this Panasonic model, especially for the price. This headset has served me well for over two months now of regular daily use. Audio is sharp and clear and plenty loud enough. The headset is comfortable and easy to wear (except when I get tangled up in the cords, but that's my fault).
11 Low price, high value
I often work from home where I participate in conference calls and online web presentations, so hands-free calling is important to me.
However, as I have had mixed experiences with previous headsets, I decided to try this unit based on the positive reviews and very low price. After using the KX-TCA60 for more than a week I can't believe anyone would ever -- or should ever -- want to pay more.
It is comfortable to wear, the sound is crisp and clear, and the microphone picks up my voice perfectly without feedback. It is often easy to recognize others wearing headsets on conference calls, but so far no one has asked if I am using one or commented on problems with sound.
My kids love it too ... which is one of the reasons why I purchased two. At $10.99 new on Amazon, why not? I keep one in the car because it also works great with my cell phone, and I never have to worry about a failure or breakage leaving me in a pinch.
12 Best monaural headset you can get--but not very durable
I am very particular about headsets. This Panasonic headset has been my favorite headset ever, and I own at least 13 headsets (really). Unfortunately, mine developed a bad/intermittent contact somewhere, but I go through headsets like bottled water (only 6 of mine work). I bought another because I couldn't stand using my 'backups' anymore. I recommended it to 2 friends, and theirs are going strong, but they use theirs less. I use my headsets hard, often hours a day.
The leatherette earpad is comfortable, and will not wear out & need to be replaced like foam covers will. This one has a good-length boom and mic gain. People don't say, "What? Talk louder." with this headset, and they like the way my voice sounds; in fact, I believe it is the same mic element in my older high-end (nice-sounding) KX-TC series Panasonic phone, because people can't tell a difference when I switch over. Receiving sound is also very good; not too weak or too strong, but if I had to choose, a little on the stronger/efficient side, which most people prefer.
The headset doesn't feel delicate, but I guess it is, or at least some internal wiring is, as poor durability is reported. It's not an excuse, but you ~could~ buy 2 or 3 of these for the same price as more expensive models (even Panasonic) and still not get a headset as good-sounding or as comfortable.
I have ruined headsets by rotating the mic to get it pointed more towards my mouth (I don't mean bending the boom). Don't do that. If you pull off the foam windscreen, you will notice that the mic is at a 45 deg angle when it is facing your mouth. This is actually proper from a sound engineering aspect.
Everything which makes this headset larger, 'clunkier', 'mid school', 'unattractive', or 'uncool', or its lack of collapsibility serves to your advantage for good sound and comfort. Due to its size, it's not ideal to bring along for cellphone use, but if you do, while you have it on, you will be well-served.
Like the previous reviewer, I have used/owned Plantronics (not Panasonic) headsets and they do not work well in my Panasonic and other home phones. The (Plantronics--I've used 3) mics simply do not produce enough gain, and the booms do not come out far enough to the mouth. So I use them as backups. Plantronics used to be the expensive quality leader, but their quality seems to have suffered in recent years, and prices remain high. Panasonic has been the only brand to consistently do right by me on many products.
Amzn price on this item fluctuates. Anything in the low tens is a great price online, anything in the mid tens is the best price you'll see in a store, and the high tens is typical store price.
This has a 2.5mm mini-plug for use in cell and home phones, not computer sound cards. Headsets are made in China, like everything else we depend on.
13 A good basic headset
I am using mine with a GE 26977GE6 phone, which came with a somewhat uncomfortable street-style headset. The Panasonic KX-TCA60 headset is much louder and clearer. I did not realize how poor the stock headset was until I tried these Panasonics. My only problem with these is that the volume is a bit too loud, even at the lowest phone volume. Otherwise, this headset is great.
14 Still great...
I wrote the review below. I tried the Panasonic model KX-TCA86 headset (which is more expensive) and found it to have lower sound quality than the KX-TCA60. I am very particular about sound quality as I am a sound engineer. I can assure you that the KX-TCA60 is one of the best sounding headsets around. Another reviewer complained about the size of the microphone and wind-screen. I find it acceptable and it is probably one of the main reasons this headset sounds good. (In general microphones with bigger diaphragms sound better.)
For the price this headset is very hard to beat, if not impossible. If it breaks you're out ~$10. Big deal, buy another one. You could buy several and still spend less money than a fancier headset that probably doesn't sound as good.
15 Great headset but...
I bought two of these headsets. They have great sound quality compared to several others I have tried. The problem is that these headsets tend to break. Both of mine did after about a year of use. The problem is in the headband. It is adjustable and while bending it to put it on or take it off, it breaks at the point where it adjusts. In one case rendering the headset useless, in the other usable (but annoying because it comes apart) with a liberal application of rubber band.
16 Excellent headset!
I just bought my first Panasonic headset. I have tried other headsets in the past mostly over the ear and have found them rather uncomfortable. This is my first over the head headset and I love it. Sound quality is really good. Works well with my home phone and cell phone. The price here at Amazon is also unbeatable. If you're looking for a headset, definitely give this one a try.
17 if you have a Panasonic cordless phone, you NEED this!
Don't bother with the fancier models of the Panasonic headsets. This bare-bones model has all you need. So it doesn't have volume adjustment or a mute button. Who cares? Your phone should already have those features. Besides, that redundancy would weigh down the entire unit. Also, this headset is very inexpensive to own, so those unnecessary features would drive up the price, which would not be a good thing.
If you own a Panasonic cordless phone, this headset works best with these phones. I own many Plantronics-brand headsets, which are excellent on my cell phone, but horrible on my Panasonic cordless phone. Callers constantly complain that I sound very far away. But then I bought this Panasonic-brand headset and callers hear me very clearly. Ordinarily, I'd be annoyed at having had to buy an additional headset for my Panasonic phone, but it was so cheap that I really don't mind. Now I've got an extra headset that I can use in my car! An added bonus is that this Panasonic also works really well with my cell phone, so if I had to choose one, I'd ditch my more more expensive Plantronics headset since that only works well on the cell. But, it's important to note that the Panasonic headset is not that portable so I'm not throwing away anything just yet.
