1 Solid, reliable, easy to use
We have owned this machine for a couple of years now. It has proven to be superior to every answering machine we have previously owned in a very important respect: it still works as well as it did when we first installed it. It is adequate in every respect but one, which is only of interest to rural users: it does not have a battery backup for the time and date settings.
We live in rural Virginia, and the power fails fairly frequently at some times of the year due to ice storms, wind-blown tree limbs, etc. When this happens, the KXTM100B preserves our greeting and our messages, but we have to reset the time and day of the week. Until we do that (it is very easy to do), the unit does not record these with new incoming messages.
That said, the unit is, in every other respect, at the very least adequate, and in most ways excellent and easy to use. We have not had any of the negative experiences reported by others here.
Bottom line: knowing what we know, we'd buy it again.
2 Excellent Machine
I recently recieved and installed this answering machine for home business use. The sound quality appears quite good, but not perfect. My outgoing message is very clear, but has a bit of the "digital" feel to it. Incoming messages are as good as the incoming call. Calls from a cell phone with a poor connection, obviously, are not very good.
The connection and use of the machine is intuitive, and I am confused by earlier reviewers who complained of small buttons. I find them well labeled and easy to use. As you can see in the picture, the "New Message" button, used to play new messages, is in fact the largest button on the unit. Even the small buttons are well separated to make them easily accessed.
Hmmm.. All I can say is that I am quite pleased with the unit.
3 Poor sound quality
I bought this machine to replace a broken AT&T product. I have found the reliability of GE and AT&T answering machines low (none has lasted more than 2 years), and I chose the Panasonic based on Amazon recommendations and the brand name.
It has been a disappointment. The most serious problem is tge poor sound quality: much worse that the one it replaced, so much that I cannot decipher several messages.
The ergonomics are also inferior to my previous answering machines. The most common functions ("play new messages", "erase", etc) use small buttons, lined among other functions; the LED display is very dark; etc.
This product is not worth the price.
4 Great product
I bought this machine over two years ago and have had no problems with it. It was definately worth the money!
5 Junk Machine!
This answering machine is junk. The sound quality is so poor I am embarrassed to use this machine. When an incoming call is received, my recorded greeting will not activate-the phone will ring several times but the greeting will not answer the call. Yes, I have checked the settings or functions on the machine. Moreover, I bought this machine on the Panasonic name alone. It was a mistake. Look elsewhere for an answering machine, my fellow buyers.
6 Not bad, but flawed.
I love panasonic phone stuff but found this answering machine flawed. The voice that indicates time and date is recorded too low compared to the recorded messages. Everything else works as advertised.
