It's priced for everybody, yet it's packed with all the features that you high-end types require in a good player.
Pioneer acclaimed DV-414 features a host of Pioneer technologies to enhance its audio/video performance. An upgraded video LSI improves data reading and decoding. The player's 10-bit video processing re-quantizes 8-bit video data to 10-bit video data prior to D/A conversion. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

Pioneer Exclusive Viter-Bi RF decoding process improves the player's error-correcting capability over earlier-generation players. A newly developed digital servo ensures precise data reading, while automatic gain level adjustment minimizes clock "jitter" of individual discs.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats.

Playback options include condition memory (which recalls set-up conditions such as language, subtitle, aspect ratio, and mode for up to 30 DVDs), and last memory resume (which recalls the last scene played--and the set-up conditions--for 5 DVDs).

1 BE AWARE
BUYERS, BE AWARE.
I had 2 DVD players made by Pioneer. They are nice machines... for a little over a year. Then the warranty expires. The problem these players seem to have has to do with poorly designed dual laser pick up (one - for DVDs, the other one - for CDs and Video CDs). The first player I had stopped playing CDs and Video CDs, I got the other one - this one stopped playing DVDs.
On the positive side - the picture is very good, so if you are after a short-term buy go ahead, otherwise look for another brand.
2 Best DVD player you can get and reasonable price!
I absolutely love this DVD player! I've never had any problems with skipping, response time is very nice, nice features in letting you know when there's a second angle to view on DVDs. Written commands are not gaudy, simple and small in corner. When you pause the DVD, command doesn't even show up on screen (which I like). This is the first DVD player I bought and it is incredibly easy to use. Definitely worth your money!
3 My pleasure for more than a year
PROS: Full featured for a home theatre system (96KHz 24 bit D/A converter, Dolby Digital, DTS, optical output, component video output), nice price, EXCELLENT image and sound quality, beats other DVDs I've seen on these fields, nice face, LED panel can be turned off, lots of programming possibilities for those addicted to this (not my case, I'm confortable with viewing and hearing its quality). CONS: Remote doesn't have the best layout, may not be compatible with Pioneer's DVD R/RW. With the DV 414, Pioneer has proven that although quality has a price, it doesn't need to be above US$ 300. Bought mine on December 1999 and couldn't be happier, specially considering its price/features/performance/quality. If you like movies and are budget conscious, I can only but recommend the DV 414.
4 Ignore raving reviews
I noticed the person who gave this player a bad review mentioned it was worst than his inexpensive VCR. That rang a bell. Because of the DVD's copyright protection mechanism, you can not run a DVD thru a VCR to a TV. Although this person didn't describe their setup, the mention of the comparison to an inexpensive VCR might imply that they also have a tv with only one video input. Most people with such a setup would be tempted to have both a VCR and DVD player connected at the same time. Going thru a VCR seems like it should work, but it won't. Any DVD player will outperform any VCR player. When someone says otherwise, there is an error somewhere.
5 I love this DVD Player.
I bought one of these DVD players from Amazon.com. This is an awesome DVD player for a great price. I love my DVD player. Pioneer is awesome and so is Amazon.
6 DV 525 is replacement for 414
I bought 525 and it is as good as one can expect it to be. I short listed 525, 414 and toshiba 31xx model and finally went for 525. I heard some complaints on the net that it sometimes freezes/locks ans 414 has a lip-sync problem sometimes. 525 is a new model and we don't have sufficient time to find out its bugs yet LOL but it has been a good experience so far.
7 Biggest bang for your buck.
Excellent playback with just the right balance for a starter DVD. The player has all the basic needs covered for a DVD player at a great price. All this, not to mention that it is a Pioneer, a mainstream name brand that is trusted.
8 Terrific player and a tremendous value
For the money, this player can't be beat. With all of its audio and video outputs, it integrates beautifully into just about any system. The DV-414 has component, s-video, and composite video outputs, as well as coaxial and optical digital audio outputs. You might be tempted to believe that Pioneer would not be able to deliver great performance out of a player with this many features as such a low price point, but that isn't the case. Picture quality is astounding, and the audio is excellent, especially through the digital audio outputs. The DV-414 is an excellent addition to any home theater, from inexpensive shelf systems to the ultra high-end. Buy it, you won't be dissapointed.
9 Great DVD Player.
Got the player as a gift, eazy hook-up to my Sharp 27 in. T.V.. Purchased a optical cable to hook-in my Pioneer reciever, sound and picture can't be beat. I would have paid $379.00 for this player,a local eletronics store had in it's ad. It will play CD's also, one at a time.

Quote of the Day:

Q:	What's the difference between the 1950's and the 1980's?

A: In the 80's, a man walks into a drugstore and states loudly, "I'd
like some condoms," and then, leaning over the counter, whispers,
"and some cigarettes."
