DVD of the TV Special. A tongue-in-cheek "Mocumentary" biography of actor R2-D2
1 Simply Hilarious.
For starters, Amazon has got the title of this DVD wrong. It's actually entitled R2-D2 BENEATH THE DOME. R2-D2 BENEATH THE DOME is the mockumentary about the life of R2-D2 distributed by Fox with the complete blessings of George Lucas. The short originally was broadcast on Fox about two months before the release of ATTACK OF THE CLONES in 2002. The mockumentary follows R2's life as a droid on the fast lane, his pride and addictions, his downfall, and the eventually comeback because of the the 2nd Star Wars trilogy. There are a ton of "interviews" in this mockumentary including those with George Lucas, Samuel L. Jackson, Stephen Spielberg, Richard Dreyfuss, and Natalie Portman. I was amazed that they were able to get all the stars interviewed for this thing to work together and collaborate. The best part of the short in my opinion: Dreyfuss' anger, frustration, and angst with R2 and how it led to the break down of their friendship. This is a great item that most Star Wars fans will enjoy watching and adding to their collections.
2 Hilarious Mockumentary of "The Life of R2-D2"
The title is actually incorrect as shown. It's actually R2-D2 Beneath the Dome.
Filmed in the style of an E! Hollywood True Story, it goes into the ups and downs of R2-D2's life both before and leading up to his most recent theatrical reappearance.
From the DVD:
"For the first time on DVD, the complete R2-D2: Beneath the Dome Mockumentary lifts the lid of silence and explores the never-before-told history of the real star of the Star Wars saga... Artoo Detoo. Learn about his humble roots in rural England, his unyielding hunger for fame, and how his determination overcame a Hollywood that had long discriminated against Droids. Told in three parts, the documentary unearths never-before-seen footage and interviews to tell the story. Featuring George Lucas, Samual L. Jackson, Francis Ford Coppola, and more, R2-D2: Beneath the Dome will bring smiles and laughter to your galaxy."
Seriously folks, for you old and new Star Wars fans, this is a barrel of laughs. The ability of the various actors to comment on R2-D2's background, relationship with the cast, drinking problem (no, really) and even his petty rivalry with a certain other actor...I laughed, I cried, I fell down...
