Experience your movies and music in exciting, 3-dimensional surround sound with RCA's gleaming, silver RT2380 home theater sound system. The system consists of an audio/video surround receiver, 4 compact satellite speakers, a center-channel speaker, and a 6.5-inch powered subwoofer. The front and rear left/right satellites are powered by 55 watts each, and the center speaker and subwoofer each receive a hefty 90 watts for clear, stable dialogue and strong, deep, floor-shaking bass.

The system offers Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Pro Logic audio decoding so you can enjoy the full-bodied, discrete surround effects from Dolby Digital DVDs and your DPL-encoded VHS tapes. Dolby Pro Logic II processing actually generates spacious-sounding 5.1 mixes from any stereo (2-channel source), giving you the opportunity to hear your favorite music in surround sound.

One each optical and coaxial digital-audio inputs are available for hooking up the surround output of your DVD player as well as a second component such as a CD player or minidisc player, and you also get 3 composite-video inputs, 2 S-video inputs, and a total of 6 stereo analog audio inputs and 2 outputs.

A drift-free, digital FM/AM tuner offers 40 station presets so your favorite stations are never more than a button-push away. To fine tune your audio, the system offers preassigned equalization curves designated for Rock, Pop, Jazz, and Classical. The supplied remote control operates this system in addition to all RCA DVD players, TVs, VCRs, and satellite receivers.

1 Sometimes Cheap Means Cheap
The RCA RT2380 is a cheap home theater system. It has a nice set of input and output selections and decent specs, which fooled me into buying it. However, since the purchase I have encountered problems with the unit that have been experienced by many other purchasers of the device. First, during DVD playback on digital inputs, the sound will frequently cut out for about 2 seconds at a time, then return again. Second, after owning the item for a few months, the surround sound system is completely blown out - only the front two speakers will work. RCA is aware of this frequent problem.
