1 Historically innacurate
While the legend surrounding Robin Hood has always been shrouded with a large degree of uncertainty, speculation that he was a fox with an American accent who was followed around by a singing rooster has been discounted by even the most open minded of historians. And I think it is safe to assume that the fight between Friar Tuck and the Sheriff, which ends when a buzzard on the Sheriff's back throws a sack over his head and clamps a chain around his neck, never happened. Check out Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves for a more accurate portrayal of history.
2 A great movie.
Though the ending was a little disappointing. It's cool that King Richard came back and straightened everything out; and that Robin and Marion got married, but they should've SHOWED those things happening. Not just cut to the bad guys doing hard labor and Robin and Marion walking out of the church. But other than that, I loved this movie.
3 The safety is on old Betsy
Retelling of the Robin Hood legend with cartoon animals for characters. Robin Hood is an outlaw who steals from the rich (Prince John) and gives to the poor. He has the Sheriff of Nottingham, who levies unpayable taxes upon the people, watching his every move, and setting traps to catch him. Robin Hood wishes to bring down this regime and marry his true love, Maid Marian.
Disney's Robin Hood has always been my favorite Disney film. It was always very close with the Jungle Book. Robin Hood is really a character you root for, and enjoy his interactions with every character, good or bad.
I believe another reason I enjoyed this film so much is because it did not have singing. I always preferred the Disney films that were that...films, not musicals. I guess that is because I am a male, as most of the girls growing up prefered The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Lady and the Tramp. I preferred The Jungle Book, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, The Lion King, and Lilo and Stitch (over Finding Nemo).
Nevertheless this is a must have in your DVD collection in my opinion. I enjoyed this Disney film more then any other. I also believe kids of all ages will still enjoy this cartoon and its content despite the fact it was created in 1973.
Grade: A
4 "what's really good"
i think this movie ages nicely, unlike a beer or an ugly overweight cat.
5 Oo-de-lally..Oo-de-lally, we're having such a good time....!
I first saw this movie as a little kid, and enjoyed the charming plotline. Instead of overhyped cartoony graphics, Disney is wooing viewers through plotline.
Robin Hood (Brian Bedford) is a sly Fox who is out to help the people of Nottingham with his best friend Little John (Phil Harris). The bumbling-but-evil Sheriff of Nottinghan (Pat Buttram) convieniently is a wolf. This wolf does not actually devour anybody but he enjoys getting money from the citizens of Nottingham by anyway possible (hitting somebody on a broken foot).
Sir Hiss (Terry Thomas), Prince John's (Peter Ustinov) most trusted adviser is a slick snake. Hiss is so underhanded that he enjoys tormenting Prince John about the favirotism his 'mummy' showed to brother King Richard (also voiced by Ustinov) when they were growing up. This part of the storyline tries to make viewers have sympathy for the prince, his unhappy childhood turned him into a villan and he would also have been a good person under different circumstances.
To catch Robin Hood, Prince John holds an archery contest with the prize being a kiss from Maid Marian (Monica Evans), the love of Robin's life . Robin is disgused as a stork, but his disguse is unmasked as he is presented to the royal viewing box! Robin Hood's escape from this tight sittuation is one of many reasons why this film continues to hold my interest.
The songs in this film are so memorable that I still remember them vividly after all of these years...and honestly have difficulty recalling most of Disney's more recent catalog.
6 Not for all kids
I decided to write this review after reading about how great this movie is, and how kids will love it. Yes, some of the animals are cute, and there are some funny bits, but I want to write this to warn that this movie might not be for all kids.
When I saw it (in 1st or 2nd grade - I'm 25 now) I thought the first half was okay, but the scenes where the animals were being taken to jail with chains around their necks really upset me. I would feel spaced-out and nauseated and I wasn't able to tell anybody else because all the other kids loved the movie and I was embarrassed to admit how much it upset me.
I did have kind of a traumatic childhood with my mother being hospitalized repeatedly for mental illness (probably schizophrenia) so as an adult I've thought maybe those scenes, especially the fight between Friar Tuck and the Sheriff, which ends when a buzzard on the Sheriff's back throws a sack over his head and clamps a chain around his neck.
I don't know why that movie upset me so much when the other kids seemed to love it. I had to watch it several times in school assemblies up until 3rd grade because apparently it was popular. I never told anyone how it made me feel until very recently.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie, though the animation was only so-so. I'm just writing this because some of the other reviewers said that kids wouldn't pay attention to the violent scenes I just described but focus instead on "the cute animals and the songs".
7 Delightful
Disney's Robin Hood (1973)
Children are guaranteed to love this movie. I got it as a the film book of this movie as a birthday present when I was six years old, and it started me on a passion for all things Robin Hood, which led to a lifelong and consuming interest and history!
All this from an animated kids movie, starring animals as all the characters. This has got everything for the kids.
Adventure, romance, sadness turning to joy, and the triumph of good over evil.
Robin Hood (Brian Bedford) is a fox with a delightful 007 accent, as is his beloved Maid Marion (Monica Evans) with her nanny being a big fat, jolly hen. Little John (Phil Harris) is a bear; Prince John is lion with a very sinister snake as his aide de camp - Sir Hiss. The Sheriff of Nottingham is a very nasty wolf, which robs the mice, rabbits, pigs etc that make up the poor, oppressed people of England. Friar Tuck is a bear; Allan-A-Dale is rooster with a Deep South accent.
Most importantly there is never a dull moment, with lots of action and songs etc. This should be the first video/DVD for every child.
8 the best robin hood movie ever.
this is an old animated robin hood movie where the characters are animals.robin and marion are foxes.the taxman is a bear.so is john.the poor are mice.the kings a lion.you get the idea.robin robs from the rich and gives to the poor.the sheriff gets jacked and eventualy the folk hero has a duel with the king himself!the kids like it.i loved it when i was little.its a wholesome family film.its a true story so thats a plus.the kids will be educated and entertained.some of the scenes of the patheticly poor people a bit much for some kids.i guess the message is rob from the rich and give to the poor.but, wouldnt that just make the poor rich.soon hed be stealing from them and returning it to the king anyway.
9 DISNEY'S VERSION OF ROBIN HOOD!!!!!
THIS IS A WONDERFUL VIDEO. I REALLY DO ENJOY THIS VERSION OF ROBIN HOOD I LOVED IT WHEN I WAS A KID. I STILL ENJOY IT NOW. IT IS JUST THE STORY OF ROBIN HOOD ANIMATED(DISNEY STYLE). I LOVE IT I ENJOY IT AND I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO LIKES DISNEY CLASSIC CARTOONS OR (ROBIN HOOD) YOU WOULD DEFNITELY ENJOY IT. I AM A GROWN UP NOW AND I ENJOY THIS MOVIE AND I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND ANYONE TO BUY THIS I LOVE THIS VIDEO IT IS A REAL TREAT AND A MUST HAVE.
10 I really like this version of Robin Hood
The strolling minstrel is a rooster. The Friar is a badger. Robin Hood and Maiden Marian are foxes.
This is a very clever animated version of the story everyone knows. It's got some chase scenes and some action/battle scenes; however, this is not a violent movie.
It's quite fun. There are songs and cavorting and kids playing.
The animation is classic Disney. The music is great. I love the rooster; he strums and walks and talks and is the narrator and he's just really good.
11 The Best
This is one of the BEST Robin Hood films ever made! I caught this one on Disney when it first came out. I loved the silly king and the goofy vile snake. Such a great classic film. Memories to be made with this one.
12 A breakthrough in Anthropomorphic characterization!
Disney's version of "Robin Hood" was a breakthrough in the use of Anthropomorphic or "humanized" animals in animation. It was the first time any animation studio created an all-animal cast playing roles usually reserved for humans in a full length movie. It holds a unique place in Disney Animation just for this reason.
Believe it or not, "Robin Hood"'s influence has been far-reaching on the design and stories of later animated movies (Don Bluth's "The Secret of NIMH", Disney's "Lion King"), many animated television shows (Disneys "Gummi Bears", "Ducktales", and "TaleSpin"), comic books, video games (Nintendo's "Starfox"), Asian Anime/Manga and the growing "Furry" Fandom on the internet today.
The 70's were a uninspired and directionless time for Disney Animation and "Robin Hood" shows the effects of this. The animation is flat and looks cheaply done due to the use of Xeroxing the pencilled animation onto cells instead of the precise but more expensive way of hand tracing. Some of the animation where characters are dancing was directly copied from "Snow White" and "The Aristocats". When Sir Hiss stares hypnotically into Prince John's eyes for a few seconds - its the same exact animation you saw in 1967's "The Jungle Book". This reuse of animation was fine for Hanna-Barbera and other low-budget TV animation companies but a travesty for Disney which created and set high standards with their animation in the 1930's through the early 1960's (and thankfully recapured some of those standards in the 1990's).
Some characters are recycled from other Disney movies - Little John and Sir Hiss are carbon copies of the Jungle Book's Balloo the bear and Kaa the snake. The songs besides Roger Miller's "Oo-De-Lally" (which was sampled and sped-up for the popular Radio Disney staple "The Hampsterdance") just aren't that memorable. Add to that the direction is very pedestrian with little style or "zing" - typical of most Disney films of the period.
Despite all these flaws the movie is still one of the most charming, fun and entertaining of all of Disney's 1970's output. The biggest reason is the great cast of voice actors - they sound like they were having fun making this movie and their enthusiasm give the characters "life" when the animation doesnt. Peter Ustinov almost steals the movie with his voicing of Prince John. The story is one of the better adaptations of the Robin Hood legend and the script is well paced and full of funny one-liners that might go over the head of young kids but adults will enjoy.
Disney's DVD version is a huge improvement over the old VHS tape from the 80's - but there are still scenes where the colors look washed out from a faded print, and the movie's soundtrack is still in the original mono. To add insult to injury it's only presented in fullscreen "Pan & Scan" like the VHS tape. Besides the original trailers and the classic Mickey Mouse short, the extras are only for the kids and not die-hard animation fans. I wish Disney would have spent more time and money for this reissue, restored the color, add archival footage, interviews and remixed the audio for 5:1 stereo like they have done for "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty". This classic movie deserves better than a budget bare-bones presentation.
13 Awsome!
This is a very good movie. My sister and i really enjoyed it. It is not the modern day war etc. movies it is a nice classic movie with a cool plot.
It is awsome.
14 Robin Hood The Disney Way
This is a very cute movie. It's one of the few animal/human hybrid like movies the Disney company does. I like this one because there's not just romance in it and that's what really makes it more fun.
The music is all right. Not really the best score but I think the script and colors makes up for that.
15 An understated gem!
I've loved this film immensely since I was a little kid, literally above all others in the Disney canon. As an adaptation of the Robin Hood story, it's probably the best short take on the mythology, bar none. The only gripe: the songs are very much influenced by the sixty's milieu (when the film originally came out), so they feel somewhat dated. The are somewhat incongrous with the setting of the story, where I would have preferred something more medievally influenced. This is a small complaint however, given the charm of the film, the wonderful characters, and the straightforward, no- frills cant of the plot
Most highly recommended
16 Be clear on one point, this is well done...
Crazy as this might sound...
This is well done and a crafty execution of a complicated game. The game is "Fun for kids and fun for adults" some extremely talented directors and movie companies have failed (over and over again) at this delicate balance.
How does this little gem pull that delicate maneuver off? Well it starts with fantastic voices:
Peter Ustinov = Prince John (almost too good!!!)
Terry Thomas = The Snake "Sir Hiss" (Sniveling and subversive)
Phil Harris = Little John (Perfect)
Andy Devine = Friar Tuck (great voice and delivery)
And music by the very excellent Roger Miller... So good.
That's an all-star cast by any standard (period)
Many an A+ movie has been bogged down on the way to solving this issue, kids and adults, each being equally entertained. It's no small feat.
It's accomplished smoothly in this little animated classic with great (exceptionally great) voices and not a lot of "playing down" to the children. The interplay between Little John and Robin Hood is adult and vivid. The relationship between Sir Hiss and Prince John is absolutely hysterical and so well "spoken" it's comic mastery is still relevant.
Those two interactions are enough to carry the thing from start to finish. But Robin Hoods ultimate success is crowned with extra side dishes, such as The Sheriff of Nottingham and Nutsy as well as Clucky and Maid Marian's excellent interplay.
Taking it all into consideration the animation is good (not great but certainly enjoyable) and the story zips along probably compensating a bit to keep the younger group still focused. When the movie is over, touching ending and all, I'm left quite satisfied.
I am 39 and enjoy this for just exactly what it is, and that is "well done"
17 Great Movie! Recommended For Children & Family Alike
I saw Robin Hood a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it! The animation was good and there were some moments when I couldn't help but laugh. It's a great movie to watch any time of the year, whether you're snowed in, rained in, or you just want to kick back, relax, and watch a light-hearted, funny classic. Again, Robin Hood is a must-see!!!
18 OO-DE-LALLY, golly! What a movie!!
The first movies I can remember watching as a kid are Robin Hood and The Jungle Book. It makes me very curious to read some of the reviews on here that claim that this is a "lesser known" Disney movie, yet so many people have given testimonials about being an adult who still loves this movie. Well... here is my suggestion - buy this movie, a package of microwave popcorn and stake out a spot on the couch with a kid you love and introduce them to this timeless classic!
It is true that the extras are not as great as those on other Disney DVDs (this is a GOLD Collection DVD remember), but are you really buying the DVD for the extras, or for the movie itself? Note to reader: if you answered "extras", then go rent this, rather than buy it. You'll be too disappointed by the one song sing-a-long, storybook option, and brief 16 question quiz to really enjoy your purchase. However, despite being a colorized version of the original, you might get a kick out of the 1933 Mickey cartoon "Ye Olden Days".
Robin Hood is a well-known old English legend, based in part on actual historical people, places and medieval life (ex. King Richard, Price John, Nottingham, caste system, etc). Sounds like a mini history lesson disguised as Disney entertainment! *wink* Older kids might be interested in comparing the Disney version of the story to other film and or book versions of Robin Hood. I know it sounds like I am analysing this too much, but having written a paper on this exact topic for a college english class, I know what I'm talking about. You can't ask for a better assignment than watching a Disney movie, eh?! :)
For whatever reason you choose to watch this DVD, and at whatever age you are, you will love this movie and it will become one of your favorites!
19 Some things never get old
I'm 15...but I still dig this movie out of the closet every now and then! When I was a kid Robin Hood was my hero, and interestingly enough I still relate some of my favorite characters in movies that I watch now to those in this movie.
While the animation is not as fancy as that of newer disney movies (they are, after all, newer), the movie is worth watching. And for all you adults out there...this is one that you won't mind watching again and again with your kids! Some of the humor is actually way over their heads and it will have you laughing (but don't worry, it's clean).
20 One of Disney's Best
Most kids nowadays don't know much about the "other" Disney movies...you know the ones that haven't come out in the past 10 or so years. The ones that aren't Nemo or Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. But as someone who's seen practically every Disney movie, I can say that this is one of the best! It's funny with truly original characters. There's nothing better than spolied, mean Prince John crying for his mummy! The voice talent is great (Robin's voice especially) and while it may not be as flashy as the newer Disney movies, the animation is still very pretty at times. At the same time, it gives sort of a bit of a history lesson: that princes weren't always that great (there actually was a Prince John who was so awful that there was never another prince named John) and also in subtle ways shows the poverty that people faced. This movie is definitely one you should have in your Disney collection.
21 YAHOO!
I LOVE this movie , And I'm 31 years old!
22 Robin Hood won't rob you...
Although not one of the greatest Disney "canon" movies, this unusual piece is still a worthy addition to the Disney canon and a personal collection of Disney movies.
This is, so far, one of the only Disney "Canon" movies that has no human characters. ("Lion King" is another.)
The story is right out of English legend. Robin must rob from King John to give back usurious tax money to the people of Nottingham and Sherwood Forest. But this story that underlies the action isn't too strong for younger viewers.
Robin's obvious infatuation with Maid Marion is one of the funnier bits. Little John is absolutely hilarious when he says things like "Aw Robin... Why don't you marry the girl." And, of course, eventually, he does.
The classic Robin Hood sword fights are there. Most of the characters are funny and original without being too far from the expected medieval classics. The scene where Robin is chased all over the grounds is just too funny. The mad football-like rush of the chicken was one of the better bits.
Worth at least a look to see if you would like to add this to any collection of Children's favorites. Well worth adding to a collection of Disney's classics.
23 I love this movie so much!
I am almost 20 years old and I still love this movie.... When I watch it it's like being a little kid all over again... When I was little it was great I wanted to be Maid Marian and marry Robin Hood.... But now I find my self in a way still wanting to be Maid Marian and I will always luv Robin... If you have never seen this great movie take it from me YOU NEED IT!
24 A must have
In classic gender-specific fashion, after watching this DVD for the first time, my 5 year-old son said "My favorite part was the sword fights!" and my 3 year-old daughter said, "I liked it when they got married!"
Well, I hope that wasn't a spoiler for anyone. In any case, cute animation, catchy songs, and fun characters make this movie a favorite with BOTH of my kids.
25 Love it!
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. Now my 3 year old loves it too! Disney movies are timeless and great for the whole family. Never have to worry about what your kids are going to see with Disney's animated movies!
26 The Best
This DVD is awsome! It is truly a Disney Classic. From Robin Hood being chased all over at the fair(which is my favorite part),to Allan-a-Dale singing away in the prison, it is a really great movie for all ages. Buy it today and dicover the world famous Disney magic known to all.
27 Quiet classic
First, I have to say that I'm 21 years old and this is my favorite cartoon. Lots of people discount this movie because it's not so big and flashy as many Disney movies, especially the more recent ones, but don't be fooled; the magic is in the details. Don't look for big band numbers like in Aladin, or melodromatic romance like Beauty and the Beast. The romance is there, but it's quiet and cute.
One aspect of Robin Hood that some people don't like is the animation style. True, it has some of that weird 70's minimalism to it, but I think it's very well done; not overdone. Much better than The Rescuers, The Sword in the Stone, etc., which can get annoying with repeated viewings. And it doesn't fall into the trap of making the villain so darn evil that it scares kids to death (I still have scars from watching The Little Mermaid as a kid).
As far as I'm concerned, however, the best part of this movie is the voicing, which is PERFECT! It really benefits from the fact that it employs several long-time professional voice actors who worked in radio in the 30's-50's, especially Phil Harris and Andy Devine. Of course, Peter Ustinov has a great voice, too. (Very distinctive!)
I can't really recommend this movie too highly. It's REALLY funny (Prince John is soooooooo my favorite character), and clever enough that you'll want to watch it over and over!
28 Robin Hood jumps to animation in this movie
Phil Harris who has both voiced Baloo in the Jungle Book, and Thomas O' Malloy in the Aristocats is back again in this movie, plus this also a singing role for him, he also sung in both the Jungle Book, and the Aristocats. Plus he sounds like Baloo. The characters are all animals from a fox to a wolf. As the movie opens, Robin Hood (Brain Bedford) and Little John (Phil Harris) are swimming and having fun into the are being chased by the sheriff of Nottingham (Pat Buttham) and his men, they mange to escape, and then find out that the evil Prince John (Peter Ustinov) has come to town, so they dress up as fortune tellers, Prince John manges to get his ride to stop while he has Robin Hood (dressed up as a fortune teller), they try thier best to steal the riches that Prince John has, but get caughted in the act, by his pet snake (Terry-Thomas), but Prince John wouldn't listen, but when after they leave he realizes that he has been robbed, and puts up wanted signs with Robin Hood's picture on it. Monica Evans voices Robin Hood's sweetheart Maid Marian. Thought it may be heard to believe that this movie is about 30 years old. This is a must watch if you love Disney animated movies. The songs in this movie are
Do-de lally
Not in Nottingham
Whistle-Stop
All pefromed by Roger Miller
Love
sung by Nancy Adams
The phoney king of England
sung by Phil Harris
29 This is a Classic!
This movie is sure to please everyone. Adults will have fond memories of when the movie first came out and kids will be happy to rediscover this adorable version of the classic story of Robin Hood, Disney style. Of course the cast is composed now of animals, and the choice of foxes for the main characters was perfect, and really cute.
I have seen this movie dozens of times and I still love to put it in the DVD player every time I get bored!
30 Classic Of All Time
This is my favorite movie of all time! Even though this movie doesn't compare to big hits such as Aladdin or Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, this movie is hilarious. Every time I watch it I still get a kick out of a new scene or two. I love the character Prince John. Now I know he is a villian but, with him being jelious of his older brother and trying to live up with his mother's expectations he acts like a little two year old and he shows it well.
What is also neat is that Disney has used animals and not cartoon people. The animals go with the characters and it is just so unbelieveable. I recommend this movie to all ages. Even adults will enjoy this awesome movie.
31 An unfortunately forgotten Disney classic
The '70s were a pretty rough decade for Disney. Without Walt, the company lacked direction, and if you've seen any of their live action films from this period, you know fully well that quality control was a *big* issue.
On the animated side of things, Disney produced features that were quickly forgotten. This movie and The Fox and the Hound turned out to be highly undeserving of being forgotten. While The Fox and the Hound more of a "classic" Disney film in style and subject, Robin Hood is, and tries to be, great fun.
Told from the perspective of the animal kingdom (with Robin Hood and Marian as foxes, King Richard and Prince John as lions, and so on), this movie relies on its humor and its music, and scores on both points. Prince John is a sniveling whiner, and stupid to boot, the prince is second only to his cronies and Little John in raking in the laughs. Equally effective is how Robin Hood is split into two halves: the first, where we meet Robin and he woos Maid Marian, and the second half where the prince gets mad and cracks down on the people of Nottingham (which of course leads to a big battle between Robin and Prince John). While the ending is certainly abbreviated, the feature is still enjoyable, and one of the most purely fun Disney movies ever produced.
This disc presents the movie nicely, although the features stink (like all the older Gold Collection releases, it seems). The one potentially rewarding feature, a Mickey Mouse short, is a colorized version of "Ye Old Days", which is an unforgivable sin, especially with a similarly themed color Mickey short, "Brave Little Tailor" available. However, if you can stomach the poor features, Robin Hood is a great purchase for your DVD collection.
32 How the animals tell the Robin legend
As rooster-minstrel Allan-a-Dale (voiced by the late country singer Roger Miller) explains in the introductory sequence, the animal kingdom has a slightly different take on the story of Robin Hood than we humans do. And how wonderfully Disney has told it! What *would* wily Robin be but a red fox? Or Little John but a big, good-natured bear? Or King Richard and Prince John but a pair of rival lion brothers (in a fascinating foreshadowing of "The Lion King")? The voice talents are especially fine--Brian Bedford as Robin, Phil Harris as Little John, Andy Devine as Friar Tuck (a badger), Peter Ustinov as Prince John, Terry-Thomas as his sinister snake-advisor Sir Hiss, Monica Evans as Maid Marian, Carole Shelley as her lady-in-waiting Kluckie (a hen), Pat Buttram as the Sheriff of Nottingham (a wolf), George Lindsey and Ken Curtis as his vulture-deputies Trigger and Nutsy. Though somewhat more inclined to slapstick than most Disney animation, it will charm even those who don't care for that kind of humor (and being one myself I can speak with authority): the wild chase that ends the shooting match at Nottingham Fair will have you rolling on the floor. There's also plenty of intrigue, swashbuckling adventure, and clever scheming, and--as in any version of this legend--ample opportunity to start a discussion with your kids about right and wrong. One of my favorite cartoon features and one that should find favor with all ages.
33 A never-dying love story
Well ... who does NOT know the story of Robin Hood? This is most definitely one of the best versions of the story. Sweet and innocent. A must have.
34 AAAAAA NAAAW!!!
This movie kick ass. Im 15 and i still watch this movie with my brother (3). Someone was a freeken genius. Great movie for kids no dought. And all you haters out there how think i'm too old to watch this movie, shove it.
35 a great movie
This is a great movie. If your tired of the formula driven Disney movie- watch this. Its a fun romp from start to finish and it has one thing that the current batch of Disney films( especially the "sequals"(groan)) lack and that is personality. I've watched it hundreds of times and still love it as I did when I was kid.
36 Robin Hood (Disney)Brian Bedford
What a strange idea that worked! Ofcourse I mean casting the story of robin hood with animal cartoons instead of human cartoons. This cartoon was always one of my disney favorites and I decided to buy it. At the age of 23, I wasnt sure if it would still hold up and grab my attention like when I was younger, but I still love it!
This is a great movie that everyone can enjoy. I thought the characters such as Sir Hiss, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, Prince John are wonderful. They all have such unique and funny personalities. Watching this in my older years got me thinking about currupt power, taxes, the poor, the death penalty and other adult issues. Not to worry parents! Your kids wont have to think of such things cause they will be busy loving the cute characters, jokes and great storyline. This movie sends a important message of human compassion. This movie never made me ever think of stealing when I was younger, but just incase your worried, please explain to kids that stealing is not right, but Robin Hood was taking back money from the rich that they stole from the poor(because of the insane taxes).
The songs while not the most memorable of Disneys theme songs are really great and I actually enjoy them more now. There is alot of really great folk songs that are really catchy(i even find myself singin them in the car).
The DVD quality is great and there is a bonus Mickey and Goofy cartoon included!
37 One of my all-time favorite Disney animated films!
There haven't been very many well-known Disney movies that I know of that were highly successful nor as groundbreaking during the 1960s through the first half of the 1980s and some of the Disney movies that were made during that time should've been more successful. The Disney animated edition of Robin Hood is one of those and is in fact, probably my favorite Disney movie of all-time.
Released in 1973, it is a wonderful adaptation of the medieval novel with the characters being animal humanoids with Robin Hood being A Fox, Little John a Bear, Friar Tuck being a badger, and the greedy and semi-evil Prince John being a Lion. It's all so entertaining and so much fun to watch and laugh to with all of the charm and charisma that I think a lot of Disney movies during the 1970s and 1980s lacked. Don't get me wrong, most of Disney's movies are great but Robin Hood in my opinion is one of the most overlooked classics of all-time and also is my favorite Disney movie of all time, alongside the also overlooked "The Great Mouse Detective".
As you might already know, it's a tale of an outlaw who robs the rich Prince John and his goon wolf The Sheriff, to feed the poor and the hungry in Nottingham and dreams of marrying a lovely lady named Maid Marian and it's all so wonderful. If those who are turned off by the excessive drama or the unsettling atmosphere of the Kevin Costner classic "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves", this Disney edition will definitely make a wonderful substitute. I recommend both versions of Robin Hood. I like the Disney one more.
The background music is also highly memorable with some incredible catchy songs and battle scenes that are just enough to keep you laughing for a very long time and just the whole atmosphere of the movie makes Robin Hood one of the most underrated and overlooked classics of all time. A lot of more popular Disney movies while great, they don't seem to impress me as much as Robin Hood has, and some are just downright pap! Robin Hood doesn't fall into that category. It has the fun and joy for young kids to enjoy and the style and timeless music and storytelling to entertain the adults. I would even go far as to say that Robin Hood is better than Aladdin, and Prince of Egypt. Don't get me wrong, those are classics too but not at the heights of Robin Hood though.
38 Classic Disney retelling of a favorite story!
This particular version of the "Robin Hood" tale may not stand up to historical scrutiny... but it sure is a wonderful version by any stretch of the imagination! I've loved this one for many, many years and was excited when it was finally released on DVD. And not a moment too soon! My VHS version was looking rather tired.
The animation is classic Disney, and makes a smooth visual transition from its predicessor, "The Jungle Book." Musical sequences are interwoven beautifully with the story, and the outstanding character development imbues each of the main "leads" with a larger than life persona.
This new DVD version of the movie has remastered the audio and video aspects of the movie, breathing a renewed life into a venerable classic.
39 An All-time favorite!
When I was a child Disney's Robin Hood was my absolute favorite movie. I used to beg my mom to let me watch it every day. Now I grew up and had my own kids. Funny thing is my own kids are begging me to watch it every day! The songs in this movie blow you away. Real talented stuff. Not like this modern Disney music. I have to argue the other reviews that suggest the animation is poor. I find the animation definitely classical and superb. My husband watched Robin Hood for the first time when I introduced it to my kids and he was laughing hysterically and thought it was one of the best Disney movies ever. In my opinion (and my husband and children's opinion) it is the best Classical Disney movie ever made.
40 Back in the day
This wonderful Disney classic proves what Disney should be; charming, musical, loveable, and teaching good morals. And yet nowadays, they're coming out with movies not coming up to Disney standards at all. What ever happened to Disney movies like Jungle Book or Robin Hood or Sleeping Beauty? They've changed so much, and to be honest, I completely hate the new movies they've come out with in the past few years. This movie really proves what Disney movies should be. It shows it was written and produced back in the day when Disney movies were actually good.
41 Still loathed by critics and loved by audiences.
When this movie first came out--it was the highest grossing animated feature in history up to that point. And, just as today, critics loathed it while audiences everywhere loved it to pieces.
Well, sure, it DOES have extremely obvious flaws, all of which have been pointed out again and again and again over the years... therefore I won't go into them. What I do wish to stress is that the film succeeds because it has a wonderfully charismatic charm that transcends its errors.
How many times have I seen it? Countlessly.
The delightful characters have stood the test of time (especially Robin himself) and are among classic Disney's most beloved despite "The New Disney"'s treating this title like an embarrassment and refusing to market much merchandise based on it. Oh yes, and the "Love" sequence (both the song and the visuals) remain one of my all-time favourite bits of animation I've ever encountered (and being an animator, I've encountered a LOT). And for those of us who are old enough to have been children when it first came out, it is a sigh-inducing reminder of the lovely innocence that Disney once carried in its animated films compared to the obnoxious garishness of today's overly-self-conscious dreck.
Tell all those dumb critics to stuff socks in their mouths. You'll adore this one, and so will your children.
42 A true classic...
Having grown up on such movies as "Robin Hood" I think that this Disney movie is a wonderful classic. It may not be as technologically advanced as most other Disney movies, but that just adds to the charm. A touching take on the ageless legend, I reccomend this Robin Hood to everyone.
43 This movie is musical all the way through
Robin Hood has to be one of my favorite Disney movies. I've been watching it for as long as I can remember, and it's still great. I just love the friendship between Little John and "Rob" and how well it is portrayed.
When I watched it recently, I realized how well I knew it. It's not just the songs that are musical, but the characters' voices as they speak. The cadance is so musical you find yourself remembering the rise and fall even if you don't remember the exact words. I like Phil Harris's performance here a lot better than I like his performance in Jungle Book.
I also love all the musical numbers. The man who plays Alan-a-Dale is just wonderful, and "Not in Nottingham" is one of my favorite songs. It is so simple, and yet so sad.
44 Cute
Robin Hood is not my # 1 favorite Disney flick but it is much better than that live action Robin Hood flick starring Kevin Costner! Disney's Robin Hood cartoon flick is cute and a good one for kids especially boys.
45 Ten years it still is one of my all-time favorites
I got this video on my 9th birthday in late 1991 and I absolutely adored it and now at the age of 19 Robin Hood even now remains to this day one of my all-time favorite Disney movies.
This 1973 classic is an animated show where all the charachters are various animals. For examole Robin Hood and Maid Marian are foxes, Little John is a Bear and King Richard is a Lion. Disney couldn't have made this movie better I swear. We all probably know what the theme of the whole Robin Hood sage is really about and I don't even want to even go into explaination. RH is a Disney classic that people of all ages will surely enjoy. I was 9 when I got this and as I near my 20th birthday I still enjoy this as much as I did then. In fact I watched this movie so much that I was for a time able to remember all the lines and musical notes in this movie. Unfortunately for me the tape I own is finally starting to wear out because i have watched it so much over the years.
My favorite scene is the running tent when the rhinocerous guards were poked with an arrow and panicing they just ran like there was no tommorrow. I still find it so funny even now. Goes to show how even some less successful Disney movies can still hold up well as time goes on. In fact I enjoy this even more than some of the more popular Disney movies.
Go and get this movie. It will be a timeless delightful video in your collection.
46 A Disney Great
I recently rediscovered this film in our video collection. I loved it as a young child and still love it now!
Disney's Robin Hood is so funny! There is plenty of silliness for kids and great humor for adults. I find something new to laugh at with each viewing. My favorite line, however, has to be Prince John's "Hiss! Hiss! You're never around when I need you!" (Hilarious in context, I promise) Portraying the characters as animals works well for the film. It makes the story (a classic itself) more accessible to children. The score is simple, but superb and the songs are delightful. Although, as a University of Illinois fan, I am slightly miffed at the use of 'On, Wisconsin!' for Lady Kluck's football-esque run past a score of King John's guards. This is a great story told in classic Disney style.
Although frequently overlooked, I consider this to be the best film version of Robin Hood and Disney's best movie. Enjoyment is guaranteed.
47 17 years old
I am 17 years old and this is still one of my favorite movies to watch!!! This movie is about a fox named Robin Hood who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. This movie is full of laughter and fun, even though im 17, i still love and will always love this disney classic!!
48 Excellent Disney Movie.
One of my Favorite Disney movies! it's about the famed Robber
played by a Fox who robs from the rich and gives to the poor while he is rebelling against the evil Prince John with The
Rotten Sheriff of Nottinghamm. It's got action, good animation plus " Maid Marion" is preety Hot!
49 A must have !
this is a great disney title, one of my favorites ! the animation is lovely, the story is great, and i also liked the disney's substitution for animal characters, they are much more fun than people ! Fox robin hood is a lot better than the human one ! Buy it right now ! KIds will love it like we do !...
50 A Classic Disney Film
Very enjoyable, one of my all time favorites. The bad guy is more stupid than evil and the good guy is a dashing hero who saves the day. One for the family library and one that can be watched over and over. The little animal characters are cute, and none of the action is too violent, can be watched and enjoyed with real little ones. A strong recommendation.
51 good old classic disney
this is one of those movies that you can see a hundred times, and each time you see it, you remenber the first time you saw it with your father, a sunday morning.
pretty good stuff
52 Disney's Robin Hood Gold Collection DVD - - a great Classic.
I don't know why this film , for the most part, is not considered to be on the Disney Classic list, it is loved by many people who are fans of these movies. All the characters are likable & funny. "Robin Hood" does not have that complex of a story as other of Disney's library installments, but for this paticular film, a complex story is not nessesary. The musical numbers are great ("Phony King Of England"), and "Love" is a great song that has been lost amid all of the other more popular Disney numbers. And Prince John is really one of the most likeable, and funny villans in Disney's history. I did notice that some of the animation was used twice in different sequences thoughout the film, but it does not detract from the overall enjoyment. And the nostalgic feel of the Mickey Mouse cartoon "Ye Olden Days", which is included on the disc, is worth a look.
53 DISNEY STRIKES AGAIN!

55 Oh-de-lally!!
Disney's animated "Robin Hood" remains one of my all-time favorites. From Roger Miller's outstanding musical compositions (Miller is also the voice of Alan A-Dale, the minstrel/rooster) to the marvelous voice casting (e.g., Terry-Thomas as Sir Hiss, the prime minister/snake), this film is a can't miss. The classic tale is told fairly accurately, including the Golden Arrow competition and so on, but in an entertaining fashion that will capture the attention of young and young-at-heart alike. The animal characters are actually well-thought-out (Robin Hood and Maid Marian are foxes, Little John is a bear, Friar Tuck is a badger) and help move the tale along remarkably well. This is a real treat, and should not be missed.
56 My Favorite Movie of all time
What more is there to say? I'm 37, and Disney's Robin Hood is still my favorite movie ever. I doubt that'll ever change. This movie has it all, good music, humor, suspense, romance and an interesting plot to boot!!
Who says a movie has to have ..., violence and foul language to be amazing? Today's filmmakers could learn a thing or two from Disney's Robin Hood and we would all benefit from it.
57 DVD brings backa legend
And i'm not just talking about the Character. This movie has made its mark as being one of the best films of all time. Its music is inspirational and up lifting and its characters are unforgetable. THe story line is simple and fun but you never get bored. Looking back at my childhood, i see, top gun, Star wars and ROBIN HOOD! If you dont own this DVD go and buy it, if not for your kids, for yourself... and maid marion... what a fox.... sorry.
58 The Black Sheep Of Disney Movies
Robin Hood is unlike any other Disney movie, and that is what makes it so wonderful. Most of the others are layden with over-produced sountracks, and lifeless characters. "Robin Hood" has perhaps the most likeable characters in the history of cartoon cinema, and the soundtrack is a classic. Roger Miller's voice is enthralling in this setting, and the tunes are tasteful and memorable. On the list with Fantasia, Cinderalla, Aladdin and Mary Poppins as the all-time great Disney flicks!
59 A Chaming Childhood favorite
Long, long ago when this first came to theaters, I must have seen this movie (in theaters) at least ten times. This is one of the movies that got me into drawing and my current human/animal hybred charactors. This was made back before Disney became it's current incarnation of Di$ney, when the orriginal stock of animators were still producing theatrical animation. In the earley seventies, disney tried something new, processing penciled artwork onto cells in the equivelent of photocopying instead of had ink-tracing the original artwork onto cells, hence the strange look of the inks. I still love this movie. Though it is now apparent that the story lacks in developement and the charictors are a bit flat, this is a timeless movie for every generation of youngsters. Surprisingly, there is a lack of storytelling surrounding Robin Hood himself; rather Prince John and Sir Hiss wind up stealing the show! Robin is a sly fox, as is the foxy Marion. Ballou turns from gray to brown and slips on a green tunic to become Little John. Prince John is a cowerdly Lion (with a terminal thumb-sucking problem) and ol' bushel britches, the Sherriff of Knottingham (surprisingly, not as evil as portrayed in other Robin Hood films; here he is more of a likable charactor who just seems to be in the wrong job) is a wolf. Trivia for you fans of this film: The charactor of the sherriff was originally drawn up to be a goat, but this film came out just before the immage of the wolf shifted from the former fabled embodyment of evil to the better known current symbol of the family oriented symbol of wilderness, and the director decided to make him a wolf! Buy this one for your kids. This is from a time before disney turned into the baudy pop-oriented, simple tra-la-la single story-line hack house it sorrofully has become. IT's fun as well as watchable for adults!
60 Always been one of my favorites
I've been watching "Robin Hood" since I was a kid and even though I don't watch cartoons that often now that I'm grown, it's still one of my favorite ones to watch when I do want to watch a good Disney movie. Robin Hood believes in stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. But to do that, he'll have to make his way to the castle and get past Prince John and Sir Hiss as slyly as he can.
I like everything about "Robin Hood." I don't see any major flaws in the movie. It might not be one of the most popular of the Disney movies, but it's still one of the best. All of it is classic all the way from the beginning of the movie to the end. It has some of the most memorable parts of any Disney movie such as the archery contest where Robin Hood is disguised as a tall bird by wearing stilts and a long beak, when Sir Hiss the snake takes a flight inside a balloon, and of course when Robin Hood finally makes an attempt to steal from the rich and give to the poor. "Robin Hood" also has some good songs on top of being real entertaining. If you like watching a good Disney movie from time to time or if you know someone else who does, I recommend getting "Robin Hood."
61 Oo-de-Lally, indeed!
I think I must have seen this film twelve or fifteen times at least-- it was an invaluable aid during my years as a desperate teenage babysitter! Yes, the animation's not the greatest, and Maid Marian _is_ kind of a ninny. But it's a charming little movie, full of laid-back humor and an immediate, handmade warmth that's completely lacking in the soulless CGI blockbusters Disney's been putting out lately. And the music! I don't care what kind of big names Disney has doing their music now-- no one tops Roger Miller. I'll take funny, intricate tunes like "The Phoney King of England" or "Not in Nottingham" any day over focus-grouped yeccch from "Beauty and the Beast" or "Mulan." If you've got kids that need to be entertained, or you're just feeling particularly young at heart, this is the flick for you. And down with that scurrrrvy Prrrince John!
62 Certainly Not Walt's Shining Moment . . .
Forget what critics have been pounding about "The Sword in the Stone" and "The Black Cauldron" being Disney's least distinguished animated features. "Robin Hood" takes the cake (or gold?) as far as mediocrity is concerned. It starts off well enough but never sustains any significant emotion- our sympathies don't lie with the hero (depicted himself as rather shallow and bland) but with the villain, the only joy in the entire film. One part of the film is lifted directly from Snow White (and the attempts to hide this show!); the music is forgettable and Little John is a direct reprisal of Baloo from "The Jungle Book". Few of the voice performances are worth mentioning and the animation itself is not even good for the 70s (and this is a Disney film!) If you collect Disney films, buy it and you'll watch it once. If you don't, skip this one by and seek out the live-action Disney feature.
63 A Fun Film
I agree with Lady Kluck. I must have watched this film 100 times growing up. It's warm and charming; witty and fun. All the charactors are loveable, both the good and the not so good. There's none of that dark evil you find lurking in so many Disney films. The songs are great to sing along with. It's not overly dramatic or overly sentimental. It's just merry ol' England. Disney wasn't able to recapture the cheerful comradary of Robin Hood until the recent Toy Story.
64 And down with that scurvy Prince John!
Down with Leonard Maltin too! Undistinguished! This(in my not so humble opinion) is the greatest Disney movie ever.Animation not all there! Why? Because it has character and originality? Because it's not the perfect pixelation of Tarzan(ugh)? Give me a break, this movie was done by hand not SGI, what do you expect, perfection? "robin Hood" is as funny now as it was 20 years ago. Little John getting hit on by rhinos who love his gold filled [boots]? Hilarious! Twenty years from now how many people will get the jokes on Aladdin( they're dated already)? This movie is classic,a pinacle of achievment that none of Disney's latest "efforts" has matched. I highly reccomend this film for movie goers of all ages. So buy it already you procrastinating pythons!
65 My little special guy thinks it's great!
Push aside what others say about this product, be it good or bad. The main thing is this is a movie for kids and what they think is important. When I got it, my little guy couldn't wait to watch it. After the first time, he watched it over and over again for about 4 times. The same for the second day. I think that it has alot of charm for the little ones as it deals with life in a rather dashing-do romantism.
66 A Good Movie
I think this was one of the first Disney movies I ever saw. At the age of three I sat right through it, enjoying every moment. Years later, it's still good entertaintainment. This is more that can be said for lots of movies. Sure, it's not the most famous movie around. As a matter a fact, next to its fellow animated classics, it looks a bit nondescript. But it's fun. You don't think of that stuff while you're watching it. The characters are pretty cool, and the song LOVE gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. Robin Hood is better movie than most people make it out to be, and I highly reccomend it to just about anyone.
67 Movie comes alive on DVD!
If you are a fan of this movie, you owe it to yourself to see it (or own) it on DVD. The color transfer is fantastic, the backgrounds are lush and detailed, as opposed to the washed out old VHS tape. The colors and line quality of the main characters are sharp and vibrant as well, I was hugely impressed. The movie looks on par with the newest animation releases, I can't say enough about the great colors. The background paintings look especially nice, with an almost computer-esque gradient fades on the sky. The sound is somewhat of a disapointment though, only Dolby Digital 1.0. I found it sounded best on 2-Channel stereo, even with a high end center channel. But all in all, if you haven't seen it on DVD, you really haven't seen it!
68 Old Fashioned Disney Sweetness - no Disney 90's Glitzy Pop
I saw this when it first came out (I was six years old at the time). I can't tell you how many times I saw this movie - a million times? Heh heh - well perhaps not that many...I love great animation and I am a huge fan of anime - but the animation in Robin Hood compared to today's standards - is well cartoonish - but it's adequate. The one thing thing that Disney has forgotten in their new movies is the just plain down to earth sweetness that their movies had in the 70's - and especially Robin Hood. Is it just me or are the songs just a lot more fun in these Disney films too...no Broadway production numbers here thank you very much! Perhaps it's just nostalgia getting to me - but I love this movie and can't wait to get the DVD - and it's just for me - no kids!
69 A fun romp, at Prince John's expense
ROBIN HOOD and JUNGLE BOOK were the best of the animated Disney movies to come out during the 1970s and early 1980s -- before the truly outstanding string (except, say Pocohontas) of movies like LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN, LION KING, MULAN, etc. It was a shining light amidst fun, but somewhat lackluster movies.
The storyline, using animals to tell the story of Robin Hood works well -- using animals to fit into their various roles. Robin Hood is a sly fox who outwits the sheriff, the king, and their men time and again, and Marian is a foxy fox. King Richard and Prince John are lions -- symbol of the king of beasts, and the prince's main counselor is a snake, low creature that snakes are viewed as being. The guards are often rhinos, tough, strong, but not expected to think.
I truly enjoy this telling, but there are several places in the movie where it's clear that the animation from one part of the movie was reused in another part of the movie. That detracts somewhat from the viewing experience.
The music and characters were fun, and you come to loathe the prince and his snake friend, not to mention OLD BUSHELL BRITCHES the sheriff of Nottingham.
A fun show, but not quite up to snuff with more recent Disney offerings. Definitely worth 4 - 4.5 stars!
Have a great day!

70 Not a great Disney film, but still fun for kids
Disney's animated version of ROBIN HOOD was released during the studio's biggest dry spell. Watching this film, you can sense that the studio was trying to re-establish itself following the death of its founder. Scenes from previous films were recycled (note the dance scene in one musical sequence borrows heavily from SNOW WHITE), an odd list of actors were cast to voice the characters (e.g. Southerners playing Englishmen! ), and only one or two songs are memorable. But it's not as bad as it sounds. The animated ROBIN HOOD does have some redeeming things about it.
The reason why adults may not find this film exciting is because it's strictly aimed at kids. But its emphasis on maintaining healthly relationships with loved ones during hard times is something to admire. To say that ROBIN HOOD lacks heart is being a tad harsh. Yes, it lacks a strong story, but it's unfair to dismiss it all together just for that. The film's simplicity and unpretentious nature has helped ROBIN HOOD in receiving wider attention and appreciation over the years. It may not be a "classic" Disney film, but it's certainly an admirable one.
71 Good movie from the fluff decade
Disney's version of Robin Hood comes from the era when Disney did miserably. Time has great healing properties, though, and since this movie is now a classic, it's easy to see it for what it is--a royal treat. As in Aristocats, the animation is not all there. The movie is also of a somewhat low energy, and there's quite a bit of bad recycling. Look past that, however, and you'll find a movie that's a treat for the whole family. It's funny. It's a classic tale of doing what's right. It has a fair amount of love and romance. How can you go wrong? The oscar nominated song "Love", along with the accompanying scene, will touch your heart. It's true that Robin Hood is not one of the greats and is not as heartwarming as some, but to say that this movie has no heart is terribly wrong. Enjoy this movie. It hints at better things to come. If you're into foxes, however, I recommend The Fox and the Hound. It has a better story, better animation, and it is also very heartwarming.
72 The Story of Robin Hood is much better!
I liked this as a child, but it's really one of Disney's weaker animated films and lacks a lot of the attention to detail that sets apart the studio's real Classics. Some of the scenes look like actual tracings from other movies (the scene where Maid Marian is dancing with the animals - it's Snow White and the Dwarfs down to every move!). I recently rented Disney's live action "The Story of Robin Hood" and was so impressed I went out and bought the video - great film full of excitement and suspence. It also explained the whole legend of Robin Hood better and gave the characters a bit more depth. This animated version is only so-so.
73 My favorite disney flick
Robin Hood is definitely my favorite Disney film. The songs are absolutely infectious. My brother and I wore out this tape when we were younger!
74 Definatly a 70's flick
This is a GREAT movie. But if you listen to most of the chase sceanes you can tell this movie was made in the 70's era. Anyway I have loved this movie since I was 4. And I love to this day!
75 A riot from beginning to end
I have the video "Robin Hood", and it is an absolute scream! It's a hilarious rendition of the Robin Hood legend, made as hilarious as it is by the antics of the villains: Prince John, Sir Hiss, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and the Sheriff's deputies: Trigger and Nutsy. Well, the Sheriff isn't as funny as the others, but it's funny when he's victimized by the antics of Trigger and Nutsy.
As for the other four, Sir Hiss is actually the smartest of the group, but he has the misfortune of being the syncophant of Prince John, who won't listen to a word Sir Hiss will say and blames Sir Hiss when things predictably go wrong. As for Prince John himself, he's so immature, childish, and easily duped, he's a scream! Especially when he sucks his thumb and cries "Mommy!" It cracks me up! Trigger's antics with his crossbow, "Old Betsy" also are hilarious, especially when the crossbow goes off! And Nutsy is so stupid, he doesn't even know that he should add a couple of hours to his brain!
In short, I recommend this film for its humor and adventure. Don't miss it!
Belle Book
76 Oodalolly!! :o)
This is my favorite Walt Diseny movie, and one of my favorite movies besides. I was enchanted as a kid, I loved the jokes, (which were very funny, some of them) and it was what made me love Robin Hood. I love how the story is with animals, I love how Robin is a fox, and so on. Some friends of mine from England had come over for a visit, and noticed that they pronounce words quite differently, like Nottingham, but I still enjoyed it just as much, or more, than the other versions of Robin Hood, so Oodalolly, golly what a day!! Hee hee, :o)
77 Great Show! best Disney ever.
One of the best Disney animated movies I've seen. Never a dull moment, always keeps you on your toes with cartoon silliness. a must-see
