Samsung DVD-V2000 DVD-VCR Combo

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
When space or convenience demands simplicity, combi players step to the fore. Requiring only two hookups (from a TV or cable box to the unit and from the unit back to a TV), the Samsung DVD-V2000 brings four-head, hi-fi VHS recording and playback alongside the quality and ease that make the DVD format so great. The unit also offers parental controls, 20-track programmable memory, and a bookmarking function.

Video Features
The DVD-V2000's component-video output is ideal for use with the latest high-resolution televisions (and a standard composite-video output works with most older TVs). Chapter Digest simplifies access to DVD scenes by generating representative thumbnail images for each of a disc's chapters, and motion zoom enlarges the picture without distortion. The VCR plays back S-VHS tapes at full VHS quality, and provides commercial skip, dual-azimuth four-head recording and playback, HQ and luminance video noise reduction, quick start, end search, one-touch recording, and an auto-fit recording system.

Audio Features
The DVD-V2000 is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 audio files. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimal decoding of all disc formats, while 2x audio playback lets you hear the movie or music while you search, where most other DVD players are mute. The player's Phantom Surround processor simulates surround-sound effects using only two speakers.

Connections
In the video realm, you get the works: standard composite-video, S-video, and premium component-video outputs for the DVD player (one set each), as well as two sets of composite-video inputs and one RF (cable-type) input and output for the VCR. You have the choice of optical or coaxial digital-audio outputs to feed a surround-sound signal to a Dolby Digital-decoding or DTS-decoding AV receiver.

1 Not a Bad DVD Player When it Works
I have had this Samsung DVD-V2000 DVD-VCR Combo for about three years and though it had had the occasional minor electronic glitch I never had any major problems with the DVD player and I didn't find the DVD player or the VCR to be too noisy unlike my old VCR which was extremely noisy! I pretty much enjoyed having this DVD/VCR combo and being able to watch my favorite movies and TV shows on DVD and use the VCR when I needed to tape something and the only time I ever really had any problem with DVDs skipping was when the discs were dirty and needed to be cleaned but recently we have begun to have problems with the DVD player. The DVD player stopped working and we still got the DVD menu and logo but when a DVD was put in the player a message appeared on screen saying no disc and it was like that for about a week and today I put in a DVD and now the DVD player is suddenly working again but I really don't know how long it will last. The VCR still works but even though the DVD player is working again I'm glad that we have another DVD player in the house because at this point I really don't think this one is too reliable! When I read the reviews by people claiming that they only had this DVD/VCR combo for anywhere between 4 to 6 months and then it broke I'm glad that this worked good for 3 years and I'm glad that the DVD player is now working again but I wouldn't be surprised if the DVD player stopped working again and I can now understand why Samsung isn't making this anymore!
2 works alright when it's working
I've been reading most of the postings here and must admit I have not noticed any undue noise from this unit (many have complained of this) and I think that the picture quality is okay. I've generally been satisfied with the picture, sound, etc. but have had a problem with it powering off occasionally. I have only seem one review that mentioned this problem so far.

We purchased this unit about a year and a half ago. For quite some time now, it has developed the habit of completely powering off unexpectedly, usually while a DVD is playing, sometimes while my son is playing his PS2 which is hooked up through the unit. I don't use this DVD-VCR player as much as my kids do, so it seems as though they were just putting up with it and not mentioning it to me for quite some time. It sometimes just needs to be turned back on, but on occasion it keeps turning off, over and over. Sometimes it even ejects the DVD.

Luckily I have an extended warranty which I finally put into use this week because as I was sitting watching TV a few days ago, the thing just powered up on it's own...and then powered off....spooky. The remote was nowhere near me and I was ALL ALONE....

Of course, even the techs at Best Buy told me, they may not be able to replicate the problem since it is intermittent. They only had it a few days, they reset this and that, cleaned this and that and promised that if it happened again they would replace it. I wonder if they've been getting a lot of complaints since they seemed to be so easygoing about it.

It has been a problem so I wouldn't recommend this unit, you could probably do better.
3 Highly Recomended
I have had this player for over two years now and I am highly satisfied. The only time I have had problems with skipping is when the disk is scratched. I would highly recomended this model.

Since they are no longer making this model I just bought the Samsung DVD-V4600. I hope I am as satisfied with the newer model.
4 Bad DVD decoding...
When I bought this I was looking for the DVD player but figured what the heck, why not replace my VCR too? I read a lot of reviews of the unit before I bought it with the vast majority being positive but now when I look for reviews I see mostly negative ones... and I'm going to have to add another one to the list. The unit is fairly feature packed as far as inputs, outputs, and options go and I haven't had any problems with it being excessively noisy that I see frequently complained about... Actually the VCR portion of it is excellent compared to my last few VCRs. The "universal" remote forgets my TV every few days, sometimes multiple times a day, but this is a minor problem after I memorized my TV's code. My only REAL gripe with the unit is the DVD playback... It sucks! On at least half of my DVDs I get frequent skipping, pausing, and freezing usually followed by the audio getting out of synch with the video and with the other (good) half it's rare if I get through a movie without at least one problem. I have to stop and play the DVD again to resynch it. This is unacceptable... When I buy a DVD player, it should, at minimum, be able to CORRECTLY PLAY DVDS?!$!!11 I've been using my Xbox (which shines in comparison - ironic since most people consider it a poor player even considering it's lack of progressive scan output!) I should have brought it back as soon as I noticed the problem but for some reason I was in denial about my new purchase and decided to keep it. Now I'm pretty worried about replacing it and buying another lemon of DVD player. When I do I'll probably just throw this one in the garbage where it belongs. Stay away.
5 Worst electronics purchase EVER
I would like to return this to Best Buy and light it on fire on their front steps.

The spinning cd motor can be heard through the auxilliary outputs. DVD's are unplayable. The remote is horrible. We need a class action suit.
6 Our Unit IS No Lemon!
We have the Samsung DVD-V2000 DVD-VCR Combo and have had it for about 2 or 3 years and though everyones intitled to their opinions I seriously dont understand the complaints about this unit because I have found it to be a solid unit that has worked well and I watch alot of DVD's and do a lot of taping with the VCR and it has been going strong for about 2 or 3 years now with no problems and this unit is very quiet and the remote is good too with big buttons that are easy to see and the remote is anice size and not to big or too small and I would seriously recommend this unit to anyone! Oh by the way after reading the reviews for this DVD- VCR unit I read a negative review from a guy who said he hated it and I clicked on the link to read his other reviews and discovered that he copy and pasted the same negative message for every DVD player, DVD Recorder and VCR that Amazon was selling and from that I learned that you need to take these reviews with a grain of salt and not take them as the absolute truth!
7 What's Korean for "Couch Potato"?
Dumb Thing #1: You can't program a sequence of CD cuts (or a repeat) without having your TV on, because the only output is to the video display, not the front panel.

Dumb Thing #2: The user interface. Maybe they all rot these days. This one seems to be the Korean conception of what an American moron is going to be able to use. I find that I tend to have somewhat better luck with American conceptions of what an American moron is going to be able to use, particularly in those cases when the American doing the conceiving is not in fact a moron. (At least I think that happened to me once...)

The most painful thing is trying not to hit the wrong button too many times while wondering whether the box can see the beam from the remote right now and whether the remote has adequate batteries. Natch, there are only a couple of buttons on the box because they figure 99% of customers will just use the remote anyway.

I'm pretty unsatisfied. But it works and it's cheap.

8 Declined to a lemon
Just as many other reviewers have stated the DVD portion worked fine albeit loud early on; then it slowly got worse. I started to have the same problems as other people have stated where the DVD would pixilate in the middle of a movie. Eventually it would not even load a DVD just give the bad DVD error on screen. I took it to Best Buy and the hooked it up to one of their TVs with no problem. I took it home and hooked it up before putting it back in the entertainment center and it worked. Inside the entertainment center it crapped out again. It maybe a heat issue. That would explain the DVD going out half way through a movie, just as it was heating up. I dunno. Now I'm stuck with $160 paperweight.
9 OK, Except for the Squeal, the Jitter, and the Remote
I liked the idea of it. I never used it much for the DVD but when I did, it would give a high pitched squeal. This would last about 5 or 10 minutes. I couldn't tell if it was because the machine warmed up or if my head just got used to it. (My hearing is 20/20.)

The VCR picture was ok for pre-recorded tapes or tapes I made with another machine. However, the picture developed a jitter when viewing shows it taped itself.

Also, the remote control never worked right. Some of the buttons didn't work. I sent the remote back to Samsung Repair and they sent it back unfixed. They said there was corrosion, but it worked for them. They said I should think about buying a new one. It still didn't work for me but I programmed my One4all to operate the machine.

Eventually, I just took it back to the store and got a Sony DVD-VCR Combo to replace it. SLV-D300-P. So far so good. It is very similar in style and programming to the Samsung. It was most likely made by the same manufacturer.

10 Decent VCR, unreliable DVD
like the others, we've had trouble with the dvd player skipping scenes, making watching some movies impossible.

there are a lot of annoying noises that accompany the use of the remote for us. we can't use the super fast-forwrd b/c the noise is just too much.

the vcr, on the other hand, works just fine.

i wish i had read the reviews first, b/c i would've bought a different machine.

11 A unit to avoid completely
To sum it up, I've had nothing but problems with this supposed DVD player. A quarter of discs pause for a second or two every thirty seconds making the film completely unwatchable. Others develop the above reported problem of randomly skipping to the end of chapters. Needless to say, I deeply regret buying this paperweight and hope that others will not make the same mistake.
12 Already broken!
I've had this unit for just a couple of months, and now it seriously skips on almost every DVD I play. Moving the same DVD's to one of my other DVD players produces a perfect experience. Like others who have had similar problems, I can't take advantage of the 30-day return policy. I'm just throwing it away and will look for something better.
13 Piece of Junk
At first it seemed to work fine and I was delighted to own my first DVD player. The only yellow flag was that one of the new exercise DVDs I had kept skipping to different angles on its own. I thought that the DVD was defective, not the player, but after I exchanged the DVD, the replacement one did the same thing. By this point, the 30-day return deadline on the DVD/video player was nearing. Then, next thing I know, the DVD player stops recognizing some DVDs that I insert, giving me a message something like, "Cannot play DVD. Check disk." Also, for videos, it randomly switches to "Hi Fi" audio mode, which means that the sound would suddenly blast at a high volume for a few seconds, then return to normal. Now the thing won't play ANY DVDs. Except for the initial problem with switching angles, all of the other problems occurred over a period of 2 days right at the cusp of the 30-day return window. Now I'm stuck with a lemon that I need to ship at my own expense to be repaired. Yes, the manufacturer warranty covers parts and labor, but not hassle and annoyance. What, me bitter? You bet!

15 wake up this is a steal
do not listen to all the negative comments, even sony has a bad one, for all the noises etc, they need to see an ear specialist, mine is perfect and hooked up through an rf modulator as my tv has no a/v jacks, it sounds great, it is attractive and with the price samsung could well overtake sony, you only pay more for the sony name and this samsung offers all that sony does, but they are happy to not sell their name. it is great do not listen to all the complainers, buy it you will love it, SAMSUNG FOREVER GREAT GREAT GREAT.
16 It performs better than I expected.
I have a 1985 RCA XL-100 TV and wanted to move up to a DVD player with a built-in RF modulator to simplify things. After about one half hour wrestling with the manual I was playing music CDs or DVD movies or VCR movies with no difficulty. I especially like th 4 head VCR. Now I use my old TEAC 2 head VCR when making a personal tape copy of another VCR tape played on the DVD-V2000 VCR. The only error I find advertised documentation on the DVD-V2000 is there in fact is no 0.25" audio headphone jack available;I don't care about this in any event. This is a very fine device for the money. Buy it.
17 Loved it!
This DVD/VCR combo is magnificent! It meets all of my needs plus many more. I'm not usually technically savvy, but this is completely user friendly. It is fast and efficient too! I would recommend this to anyone interested! Great bargain too!
18 Noisy and dirty
When I first got this as a gift I was happy to finaly have a DVD player, but two months later, I'm very unhappy. It has a lot of trouble reading DVD discs I rent from Blockbuster. My girlfriend's Sony on the other hand can read them all without a hicup. Then the VCR sort of stopped working, until I banged on the unit hard out of frustration one night. It's now working again, but I'm scared it'll ruin my high-grade videotapes. The paint in one corner is coming off; not from my bang, tho.! If I spent money to buy another one, I'd go with a Sony or Toshiba. This increasinly feels like junk quality.
19 Who said it has problems??
On the very first day I tried everything with this combo, DVD, VCD and a Video cassette. Everything worked fine!!!No problems at all.More then worth for it's price
20 WORKS GREAT!
I read the negative posts before buying this product and was a bit skeptical. I hooked it up to a new TV and have had no problems with it. The picture is always clear with both the VCR and DVD. The only issue I've encountered is that the dvd had fingerprints on it and needed to be cleaned. Once I cleaned it off it played fine. I use the product almost everyday and enjoy it. For the past few months I've been extremely pleased with its performance.
21 a little noisy
This is a good system, but the DVD player is really noisy. We have to turn the volume of the TV up a couple notches every time we use it. Other then that I can't complain
22 Not bad
I read several reviews before unpacking this unit, seeing how they were favorible for the most part. I've only had it out of the box for an hour, and I will agree with other reviewers that the unit is very easy to setup, the remote is a little to small, and the unit can be noisy during playback. I'd like to add several more comments: * I had to set the unit to our local TV Guide chanel to get the time to set automatically. * Programing the universal remote feature has never been easier! I followed the directions, punched in "04" for my Magnavox TV, and it was programed. The only problem is that they input selection button doesn't seem to work, and the mute button recalls my last channel, but everything else is fine. * I LOVE all the different search functions! I haven't played with all of them yet, but I can't wait after reading the user guide. Audio during 2x playback is nice, as is the variable speeds up to 128x. It would be nice if I didn't have to hold down the button forever to step through the shuttle speeds. The sceen index is interestnig too. So far I'm not experiencing any buyers regret, and I'm happy to finally have a DVD player, and a replacement for my tempermental old VCR. I figured that the price was right, and it was just as good to kill two birds w/ one stone since I don't use my TV or VCR very often.
23 Nothing but problems
I've had this unit over a year, it's been "repaired" twice. There is always a problem when playing dvd's. It constantly messes up. The vcr player is a little loud but not too bad. I bought an extended warranty which was a waste of money because they wouldn't exchange my unit for a new one and the repairs never helped. From my own personal experience I wouldn't recommend this unit to anyone. If the company would like to do their job and exchange it for a new one and it works I would be happy to write a better review. In the meantime I'm in the process of looking for a new unit to buy, scared stiff at this point of another lemon bought from a company that doesn't stand behind their product. For those of you who have had no problems with this product, count your blessings, we have not all been so lucky to purchase a good one. Do I seem bitter?
24 Well, the VCR is noisy but . . .
After reading all the complaints of this being a noisy unit, I did get gun shy but ultimately decided that I trusted Consumer Reports more than the customer editorials. Both are right. I found the unit easy to use and the remote self-explanatory. It's basically a plug and play unit. I've had the unit for about a month now and have watched 20 some DVD's with no noise problems. I watched my first VCR tape tonight and though I didn't notice any noise at the beginning, there was a noticeable whine after an hour of play; distracting when you're getting to the end of a serious drama. Rewind is fast and does overshoot. I'd recommend the unit mainly because of its ease of use and space saving feature but don't be surprised if you hear an audible whine when there is a quiet scene in the movie (VCR).
25 DVD NO GOOD
Bought the machine because I wanted a combo. The VCR and CD plays good but the DVD player does not play a single disc without some kind of glitch. Sent back for repaire was gone for almost a month. Still not fixed. No help from Samsung.Customer satisfaction does not seam to be tops on their list. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.
26 Fairly happy in Arizona
I purchased this unit for the same reason that many others did...space was at a premium. I had to return the first one after 2 weeks, since there was noticable "static" in the audio whenever I taped a program off my cable system. There was no static on prerecorded tapes, and the source was not the signal. I exchanged the unit, and the second one seems to be working very well. I do not find it "noisy" as others have said at all (other than the problem I mentioned...which was most likely a faulty recording head on the VCR side). We've watched 3 or 4 DVD's and they seem to play perfectly fine. While I'm pleased--so far--, this is the first time I've ever had to return a product of this type. I don't know for sure, but it certainly doesn't seem to have the same feel and quality as my old faithful 10 yr old Sony VCR---which unfortunately just started eating tapes in its old age!!
27 Remote Confusion
I have the DVD-V1000 model which is basically the same unit and while it does exactly as advertised as with any "combo" type unit the remote control is confusing as hell. It'll play DVD's/CD's, CDRW's and DVD-R's. It wont play DVD+R's/+RW's. It also plays disc's with mp3's and some DVD-RW's...your mileage may vary;-} . Stick a blank tape in the vhs slot while a dvd is in the disc slot hit record on the vcr side and whalla!! you've recorded however long of a logo screen that says Samsung and nothing else. Overall it's a good dvd and vcr but all in ones are a pain.
28 Worked for me
I need to buy a new VCR for my mom, so I brought her out of the Dark Ages at the same time and got her a combo system so she watch DVDs. It was easy to set up with good instructions and she can use the remote. What more can you ask?
29 What were they thinking?
I just finished watching maybe the 50th movie I've seen in the last month. All played perfectly on this Samsung combo unit. I gave one of these, and one of the GoVideo 4300 as gifts this past Christmas. Both units have worked very well with no complaints. I didn't hesitate to get one for my bedroom. My unit, and the other one I am familiar with, is mecahnically very quiet, emitting no sound at all. Plays everything. Versitle connections. Maybe there was a problem with a production run last year that affected some earlier units.
30 Samsung not owned by Sony
I wanted to clearify the remark below by saying that Samsung is not owned by Sony. Actually they're fierce competitor. Both are competing for the number one spot and from what I'm told, within few years, Samsung will overtake Sony. Would be interesting though.
31 A Solid Combo Unit as far as I'm Concerned...
I did a lot of research before purchasing a DVD player (well, before asking for one for Christmas...) and once I decided I wanted a combo DVD/VCR (space/aesthetic reasons primarily), the Samsung V-2000 came up a lot. Consumer Reports gave it the number-one rating, so I came here and to bizrate.com to see what people were writing. I was a little concerned about so many negative reviews (noisy machine, etc.) so I asked salespeople at a couple of reliable retail outlets that both said the machine was selling really well and that they weren't being returned/exchanged. So far, I love the machine - the quality of the picture/sound on the DVD and VCR is more than satisfactory, it looks great, and I trust Samsung - it's owned by Sony, after all (at least that's what I was told).
32 Samsung DVD-V2000.....Made my 3 year old daughter cry!
I purchased the DVD-V2000, ran home, hooked it up, and put in my daughters'favorite Blues Clues Video. This is the same vhs tape I have been playing for months on my 10+ year old Hitachi VCR. After the unit did its auto tracking thing, the tape would play for about 30 seconds and then stop. I tried a few times and sometimes the entire unit would just power off. My daughter, being very excited about watching her video, broke down in tears.
Anyway, I took it back and the replacement seems to be ok, although the DVD on this unit is a bit louder than the first one.
I realy like this unit, but it seems like you may have to go through a couple lemons before you find a good one.
1 big PLUS about this unit: it has the RF (coaxial) connection that can be used on TVs without the RCA type connections, like in my case. I am not sure, but all combo dvd/vcr units may have this connection type.
33 Quality Picture, Noisy Unit
Like a lot of reviews before me, my experience was with a noisy DVD drive. It chirps, It whirrs, It whines. This DVD/VCR Combo needs a muffler. The VCR worked just great, though. No complaints there. Also...I did NOT like the remote. Buttons are too small and you have to point it RIGHT AT the unit for the signal to work. I bought one, took it back and I think this newer one is even noisier than the first. I'm taking it back again and getting a Sony.
34 A great unit.
This VCR/DVD combo is terrific. The first thing that struck me was how solid it is. The other VCR's I own (NAME BRAND) have VERY flimsy buttons, so this unit impressed me. The remote control is intuitive, it works well.

I have a samsung television for 18 years in my kitchen that works EXTREMELY well to this day, which was the reason i went for samsung when I was shopping for a DVD/VCR unit for the bedroom.

I recommend it.

35 Don't listen to the whiners - this is NOT a noisy unit!
Either people have REAL sensative hearing, or do not like Samsung, or they are reviewing the WRONG piece of equipment.

I am here to tell you that this machine is fabulous. I connected the cable to it and plugged it into the wall. After a few minutes, the time was configured and the channels were programmed. I didn't do a thing!

The VCR plays SVHS tapes. It's NOT noisy AT ALL except for rewind. But, I rewound a 2 hour tape from the end and in about 10 seconds, it was done! But, playback and recording are NOT noisy and are quiet. These people must be muting their sets because I cannot for the life of me hear the noise from either the DVD player nor the VCR WHILE a tape or DVD is playing.

Yes, there are some clicking noises from the DVD as it loads up, but so what? Sheesh. Picky, picky, picky. After the movie starts, I don't hear a thing. Heck, the volume from my TV drowns out any noises that it might create. This is as bad as some reviews that stated a machines noise drowned out jets taking off from the airport nearby. I think that's going a little overboard.

The programmable tape functions are great. Daily (Mon-Fri), Weekly (Suns thru Sats), 8 events for up to a month in advance, setting each program to a different taping speed. This unit has most of what I need.

It's DTS compatible, Dolby Digital Surround and for those like me that do not have a decoder, the Virtual 3D sound works fine and gives a pretty fair rendering of surround sound.

The picture from the DVD and the VCR is crisp and sharp, and the colors are great.

Audio inputs are on both the front and back. Audio outputs are on the back, with composite video, S-Video and Component outputs available. That pretty much guarantees a rare connection failure. Heck, the DVD output can go out through the coaxial cable TV out so that you don't have to have an RF Modulater for TVs that do NOT contain RCA input plugs.

You can watch a DVD WHILE recording a show on the VCR.

The remote can be programmed for the more popular brands of TVs out there. I had no problems with getting my RCA TV programmed into the remote.

For those that are complaining, I would take those with a grain of salt. No noise, no tapes being eaten and I've even played audio CDs and MP3s with no problems. The only problem I DID run into was right after I put in a CD-R with MP3's on it (which it automatically found and started playing), once I started to play back DVDs, they wouldn't work well at all. I turned the unit off and then back on and the DVD's worked fine. But, I don't see myself using this as an MP3 player anyways.

VCDs seemed to work sporatically, but again, I don't really care too much about those. DVDs are the main thing as well as VHS tapes for my children.

Overall, an excellent buy. Better than the HIFI JVC VHS machine I bought along with it for the upstairs family room. That went back.

This is a great machine for the money. Get it.

36 Excellent Piece of Equipment
I honestly don't know what people are complaining about. I brought the unit home, and had it out of the box and installed in less than five minutes. Plug it in, plug the cable into the coaxial port on the back of a television, and you're up and running. Since that time, I've gone through three movies, one of which was two hours long, and the other two an hour and a half each, for a total of six straight hours of viewing. I've paused, skipped chapters, pause-stopped (stopped it, and when I hit "Play", it started right back up at the spot I stopped it at), and through all of this, it hasn't given me a single problem. I didn't hear the high-pitched whine some complained about from the DVD player. The remote is intuitive and easy to memorize (great for fumbling around in the dark of your living room to figure out what button does what), and operated flawlessly.

This is an excellent unit, and I'm happy I bought it. As always, caveat emptor, and your experience may be different, but for me, there are worse ways I could have spent [my money].

37 So far so good
I got this unit about months ago even before reading other peoples opinion. When I found out that some people had a "noise problem" with DVD or VCR I get scared and decide put it in a test. I continuously run DVD for four hours but only can hear a noise from it when volume was near to minimal and if you standing relatively close to the unit. I usually prefer SONY over other companies. But I think that DVD players from SONY overpriced. That is why I got Samsung M101 DVD player more than year ago and was very pleasant with it. Unfortunately M101 can't play CD or DVD-R. Also, I want to replace my six year or SONY VCR. This is the reason why I decided to buy this combo unit. Since I got it I'm using DVD or VCR two/three times per week and so far so good.
Conclusion. Base on my personal experience I'm really highly recommend this model because it well build and probably best in 150-200$ price range. . The only problem I have to understand that you need to set up unit trough RF output first and then activate component output. That was confusing.
It's looks like people falls into two category with this model who had no problem and like it and who run in to the problem right from the beginning and hate it. Hopefully I belong to the first category (But who knows.

P.S. Recently I got a DVD+RW drive for my desktop and burn several homemade DVD. This unit perfectly plays DVD+R as well as DVD+RW.

38 Great unit for small spaces
This unit is for those of you who live in such small places, i.e bedroom, small apt., etc. I have this unit and I'm not disappointed, I have such a small space, if I was to get a seperate DVD player, I'd have no room to move around, my bedroom is so narrow that this device comes in handy. That's why I give it 5 stars. Nice job Samsung!
39 What a lemon !
I got this unit because Consumer Reports rated it highly and I thought a combo unit would suit me because I rarely have time to watch movies. Either they were totally wrong or I got a lemon. I played 3 movies and the VCR ate all 3 ! I promptly took this piece of junk back. I did not even bother to test the DVD.
40 Smooth and Unfailing Performer
This DVD/VCR Combination player and recorder from SAMSUNG is good. In the SP mode it records and plays back very well. EP recording is acceptable as long as you play back your recordings on this unit. The front load VCR accepts and ejects the tape with frictionless accuracy. The on-screen display indicates tracking, speed, elapsed time and remaining time. I also really liked the high-speed Fast Forward and Rewind operation. Programming the unit for time-date recordings is pretty basic and similar to SONY and RCA units. You must navigate the controls just a little differently. It will also play back S-VHS recordings, which is a very good feature especially for a combo unit. DVD play and menu operations are pretty much the same as most other units. It is gratifying that you can get both the VCR and DVD signal through the RF output. If you have an old TV with no video line inputs there is no longer a need to purchase a separate RF Modulator to receive the DVD signal. That's a really nice feature. It is interesting to note that this unit is very similar in look and performance to SONY's combo DVD/VCR player. However, SAMSUNG's hand remote is a big improvement over SONY's which is awkward to use. SONY's remote is just too small. SAMSUNG's hand remote fits in your hand nicely. Overall this is an excellently designed unit both esthetically and functionally. Most importantly it performs beautifully. Both DVD and VCR images look great.
41 Great Product
Bought the Samsung DVD-V2000/VCR Combo 3 months ago as a replacement for my old reliable VCR and I could not be happier. I love recording TV shows and sports and the picture quality of the recorded programs is just incredible. Have also had no problems with the DVD playback. I usually only buy Sony and Panasonic electronics so I was a little wary buying a Samsung for the first time. But I gotta say, based on my experiance with this product, I will have no problem buying Samsug in the future.
42 I think it's great !!!!
Not sure why others had problems, I think it's great. Consumer Reports just rated it number 1 in it's category. I found it easy to set up and use. No weird sounds, great picture quality.
43 Pure Junk
Well, I bought it. Shame on me, because I read the problems with it here and on epinions as well. Good thing I tested it right when I got it, and didn't just wait to give it to my parents for Christmas. I exchanged it to make sure that it wasn't just a random thing, but the second unit was [bad] as well

Problems w/DVD:
Extremely Loud. Starts off like a whine, then intermittenly switches to a clicking sound. It doesn't affect the sound or picture, but it sounds like a computer just humming and clicking away in the background.

Problems w/VCR:
Same thing, just an overly annoying loud device. The fast forward [is loud] as well.

Unless your hard of hearing, stay away from this product! I reccomend it to nobody! I hope someone really believes me, it will save them time and frustration.

44 AVOID-if you have/want surround sound or high def
I was considering purchasing this item, but I found a few more drawbacks. My husband eventually wanted to get a surround sound system with all the best speakers and in a few years get a high def. tv. Turns out this model is not compatable to work well with either. There is however a better model (more expensive $250-300) but that has worked wonderfully with his new system. So if you are planning on getting surround sound or a high def. tv go for better model.
45 No problems
In response to several other reviews. I did return a Hitachi unit that did have excessive noise. I don't notice any excessive noise in this unit. I also have a Phillips DVD recorder that records DVD+RW and DVD+R and they play fine in this unit. So far so good
46 Beware - Loud Noise playing video
I bought and returned two of these players within 1 day. It was very easy to set up and fit in the space I had but the noise the video player put out while viewing video's was not acceptable. I'm not talking about the sound all video player make, with the running of gears, I'm talking about a loud buzzing noise that is so distracting you can not enjoy the video. Thinking we just bought a "bad" player we returned it and brought home another, SAME THING - the noise is so loud you can not enjoy what your watching. I would NOT recommend this to anyone (I exchanged it for a Sony this time)
47 Major problems with this product
I have a love-hate relationship with this product. I love the features and the style, but the quality of the DVD leaves a lot to be desired. The image stalls, freezes or flutters when playing a DVD. Very annoying and unwatchable. So figuring it was a defective unit I returned it and got another. Same problem. I tried connecting it through S-Video cable instead of RCA Cables. Same problem. Returned the unit, and after a lot of soul searching bought the same unit for the third time...After all, they couldn't all be bad. WRONG. Another bad unit. It's going back today, and I'll be buying another brand.
48 very noisy dvd drive
I had to return this model because the dvd drive makes a constant extremely high pitched chirping sound that made my ear sore. The sound was very noticeable during quiet parts of a film and distracted me from enjoying the film. I bought a panasonic dvd player and a toshiba vcr player and am much happier.
49 Some problems, but I like it.
I purchased this unit about six months ago. My VCR was on its last leg, I wanted a DVD player and I also had limited space. So a VCR/DVD combo was perfect for me.

Overall, I've been happy with it.

Some pros:
- About the same size as a VCR (a tiny bit smaller than my old VCR, actually) so it doesn't take up much room.
- The VCR and DVD player have separate tuners, so you can watch a DVD while recording something else.
- Both the VCR and DVD have the usual assortment of features such as slow motion, search, etc.
- The VCR has an easy to use shuttle feature which lets you view the video at -7x/21x(EP), -5x/15x, -3x/9x, (normal), +2x, +3x/9x, +5x/15x and +7x/21x. (I Only wish they had done the same for the DVD)
- The DVD options other than speed search (see cons below) are easy to use and convienient.

Some cons:
- Controlling the VCR and DVD require you to press different buttons on the remote. I really wish they had intergrated them together better so that the same keys are used for the same options.
- The speed search on the DVD requires you to press and hold for a few seconds the same buttons that are used for chapter advance/rewind. So if your finger slips, something blocks the IR signal during that time or the batteries are weak then the unit may interpet it as a chapeter change when you don't want it.
- The volume gets muted when you are in the menus or are setting a timer recording. I find this annoying since I sometimes like to program the VCR while watching another program. I either have to wait until a commercial or miss something.
- The DVD palyer (as others have said) sometimes starts to skip. I find this happens after about 90 minutes of watching a DVD. But I've also found that turning the unit off and back on will fix the problem. Since I usually don't watch an entire movie at once (or the movies I watch are under 90 minutes) this has not been a big problem for me.

50 Unit loses power while playing DVD's
I've had this unit for about 4 months. The VCR works fine, but about 2/3rds of the way through a DVD the entire unit shuts off. It's very annoying. It didn't happen when it was first purchased, but it happens all the time now. ...
51 Excellent easy-to-use DVD-VHS player
I recently purchased the Samsung DVD-V2000 DVD-VHS for my dad and I wasn't sure what to expect. He is 72 and has a big VHS collection that he doesn't want to give up and he also has started buying DVDs. He is not a big gadget fan so I started looking for a unit that had the fewest number of control buttons and was the easiest to operate.

After looking at several other manufacturers and models, including those that were significantly more expensive that this one, I chose the Samsung DVD-V2000, and both my dad and I are very happy with it. This unit is super easy to operate. There are two buttons in front that allow you to play either VHS or DVD. Then another bank of buttons for play, fast forward, back, pause, and rewind. That's it. It has to be one of the easiest to use DVD-VHS units on the market. I was also pleased with the picture quality of the DVDs, VCDs and VHS tapes that I played on it.

The only downside that I found is the Samsung DVD-V2000 will only play the standard movie DVD and DVD-R formats. It does not support the DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+RAM formats. So if you have a DVD burner that only uses the DVD+RW and DVD+R formats, like I do, you won't be able to play them in this unit. Still, for most people this shouldn't be a problem. ...Overall, it's a great unit if you are looking for something that is easy to use and without a lot of bells and whistles.

52 where is the item?
I ordered this item nearly a full month ago and it still hasn't arrived. This is intolerable for an off the shelf piece of equipment Next time I'll think twice about dealing with you.
53 Help me please
I need information around DVD multizone, I need work with zone 1 and zone 4 Latin american movies
54 The word is "stinky"
Got this for my birthday. The very next day (and I'd only had it for about 12 hours), it started freezing and skipping dialogue, then it would skip to the next scene. Very annoying.

Also, it was very loud. You could hear whizing and whiring from across the room, which was distracting from the movie.

And I don't know whether this happens on all mp3 playing DVD models, but only a few seconds of each song would play and it would stop for two seconds and continue. Annoying.

However, the VCR part worked great, even tho I only used it once before taking it back.

55 techno geek
I love this unit!! I have not had one issue with the unit! The only upgrade I could make is to hold more than one DVD. I have had the unit for about 3 months, I have played DVD's - never had a problem with it skipping as mentioned in the other reviews, I have recorded on the VCR side and have had very high resolution - no grainy pictures (I do have a Sony trinitron - so that may help). Overall, I am considering buying another of these units for another part of my house!!
56 Do not buy - probable design defect
I received the V-2000 as a gift. The first unit I had performed well for a few days. Then, when a DVD disc was about halfway through, the picture would freeze for about 3-5 seconds and then continue. It would do this every 30 seconds or so! Very annoying. It was not the disc because the freezing would occur on any disc I tried. We exchanged the unit for another. After about a week, we had the same problem. I talked to Samsung and they admited that they have been getting a lot of calls about this problem and all but conceded that there may be a problem with the model. We exchanged the unit for the Panasonic 4762 which in my opinion is a better product anyway. The place we purchased these from (a national electronics dealer) also said that many of the Samsungs were coming back. Choose something different!
57 Returned - not a happy camper
On the plus side - This unit is attractive, has a lot of nice features and a good price. Set up was easy and on screen commands are logical. The VCR worked well.

Reason for return - In addition to annoying pixelation, the first rental DVD jammed twice during regular play. The disc had minor(?) fingerprint marks. After a good cleaning, it performed OK. I made sure the next 2 rentals were cleaned ahead of time. I still had pixelation on both. "0" for three did not seem like a very good percentage.

I'm now looking at the Panasonic PV-D4762. Nice features, good reviews. Higher price.

58 dvd - vcr combo test
I recently purchased DVD-V2000 Samsung combo unit. After having read both the good and the bad reviews, here is my experience.

The look - excellent. The unit fits perfectly with either black or silver TV's, stereos, etc.
VCR - as good as it gets. It is significantly better than other models and Samsung DVD 1000. Make sure you have a good TV signal and use decent VHS tapes for recording and play back and you will be surprised. I played back my old tapes with better quality than I thought would be possible. The drive is unexpectaby quiet and fast. This, if stand alone, would be an above average quality VCR. S VHS tapes played back are at 90% of the DVD quality, at least.

DVD - it does play back anything stored on a disc, except SVCD's that are not common here. The sound is excellent, the output stable in all the cases, the drive very quiet and reliable. It plays back even those files Samsung claims it could not. DVD menu is simple and easy to use, same with CD's and MP3's. If you want decent sound, it is not recommended to rely on your TV set's speakers - use a receiver or stereo. DVD trully utilizes full NTSC TV resolution and 16:9 aspect picture is just perfect.

I thoroughly tested DVD about possible pixelation and track change problems. Although I did not experience this problem, I found it to be possibly associated with the condition of DVD's, not with the unit itself (tested more DVD's on the computer and other player). I don't recommend to purchase the unit unless you can exchange it in case something is wrong. This sometimes happens and it's not really a big issue.

Remote is very easy to use and it does effectively replace 3 others(separate VCR, TV, DVD).

The inital setup is great - touch nothing, the unit does it all.

In general, this is one of the best solutions until HDTV and digital recording become widely used. Even then, I'd rather use the computer for the ultimate quality (new SRS processor for the natural surround sound and high display resolution).

For the money, you can hardly find anything better on market.

59 Very poor VCR recording--worse than my 16-year old Hitachi!
I bought this unit thinking I would be upgrading my 16-year old (!) VCR, and working my way into DVD with one convenient unit. First disappointment: there is no LP setting on the VCR--something I consider basic, even with my ancient Hitachi unit (which works great, though the sound quality when tapes are played back on other units is bad). Second disappointment: even on the SP setting, the recordings were just horrible--grainy, worse than my old VCR recordings even on the lowest setting quality. I think this is a poor union of products--others have commented on the bad DVD playback. Samsung has work to do. I'm returning this today. The only positive thing--shopping at Amazon is great. They are making it very easy for me to send this back, and I will continue to try to find a good product. But more research is in order--and I'm not sure that any of these 2-in-1 units is up to par in quality.
60 Not a keeper
I returned the DVD-V2000 after a few days for the following reasons:

1. Noisy disk drive.

2. On DVD playback, part or all of the picture would occasionally break up; I have never seen this happen on my older standalone Samsung DVD player.

3. Response to the remote control is delayed by at least a second, making the remote awkward to use. Also the rew/FF buttons do double duty as skip-to-scene buttons, and it requires precise timing (very difficult with the delayed response) to get the mode and speed you want. I found it almost impossible to rewind just a few seconds to catch something I missed; I generally ended up either holding the button down too long and going into quadruple speed, or releasing too soon and skipping back to the beginning of the scene.

On the positive side, the remote is universal and worked fine with my Sony TV.

61 problematic DVD playback
I ended up taking back three of these machines (which I regret, because I really wanted to save space with a two-in-one unit). Each one had the same problem, intermittent stuttering and pixilization. It didn't happen a great deal, but not one single DVD would play all the way through without errors. CD's played fine, the VHS unit was very nice -- but the DVD playback was an irritation. A service tech tried to play the "it's not a bug it's a feature" game, saying it had something to do with new Macrovision encoding to protect against piracy. Whether he was blowing smoke, or on to something, I do not know. All I know is that all three went back.
62 Convenient and Quiet!
I love the convenience of this unit which automatically switches between VCR, DVD and TV merely by inserting the tape, or disc! When the DVD is ejected, the unit switches back to TV, assuming that the TV is turned on. Other reviews I read before deciding to buy this unit implied that switching was difficult but we have not found it to be so. Nor did we find it to be noisy. I did however ask for and did receive professional advice on how to hook this unit up to a Sony Triniton 24" TV (KV-20FV300). The advice recommended heavy duty interconnection cables ("Monster Cable" brand M Series cables(M500V Advance Interconnect Video Cables and "Monster Cable" brand Interlink 300 MKII Audio cables) and how how to hook them up in my specific application. The result was very pleasing. I am still wrestling with getting both units to operate from the same remote (DVD/VCR). I have experimented with single remote use but so far could only get the TV to turn on but not the DVD/VCR when programmed as directed on page 12 of the DVD/VCR manual. I expect to be successful, however, but even if I am not, the pleasure of the ease of tape / disc / TV use and good quality of this unit makes the use of two remotes a relatively minor annoyance.
63 Decent, but pixelation on track change
Great idea in theory, but similar to review by Dean d "....I took the first one back the next day because sometimes when the tracks on the dvd switched, the screen would pixelate and skip part of a scene. This did not happen regularly. But it was very noticeable and happened several times during the movie. I am takeing our second one back today. Hopefully, third times a charm.... "

I have already brought one back. I'm thinking about throwing in the towel on this one. I do like most of the other features, however it's not made with usability in mind.

Not recommended if you have any sort of faith in technology. =)

64 hmmmmm, mabye
it would be almost perfect to me if it held more than 1 dvd at a time, and mabye a remote came with it, u could always buy a universal remote thuough, but i wish u didn't have 2 go 2 the trouble.
65 horrible product
Do not buy this unless you enjoy grainy pictures from your video tapes and horrible sound quality from both videos and DVD's. I bought this product a couple months ago and have spent the entire time trying to make different adjustments, settings, connections to make the thing work properly. I have sat through too many movies trying to get the sound to come through without having to constantly adjust the volume up and down to hear parts of movies. In fact I have missed entire portions of movies because the sound was so horrible and tinny. I have given up my battle with this beast and bought an inexpensive Panasonic VCR player and an inexpensive JVC DVD player and am now able to watch both videos and DVD's with theater quality sound and picture. Unless you are hard of hearing and only watch subtitled/closed caption movies don't buy this product.
66 Great DVD / VCR
I think this is a great DVD / VCR combo if mine ever breaks I plan to replace it with the same one! Please consider buying especially if you want both in one. Its a great size and shape considering it holds both DVD and VCR in one machine.
67 Good unit, but ....
I recently installed one of these units, and it plays wonderfully. It was easy to set up, and plays just about every format you will need, including VCD. However, the remote control is overly-complicated, and you cannot record DVDs directly onto the VCR. Still I think it's a great device, and I would purchase another one.
68 Good - but maybe not great?
This unit seems great - I just unpacked mine. But be warned, the manual claims that you cannot (under any circumstance) copy from DVD to the tape! That seems like a pretty basic function for a combo machine. If anyone knows a way around this, I'd like to hear it!
69 SIMPLE!
Quick, fast and simple to use. Just plug in, as stated in the back of the machine, and you are all set. It is that easy. Excellent picture quality.
70 DVD/VCR combo technology is far from being perfected
The unit is definitely exceptional when it comes to being eye candy and it's considerably convienient for people like me who can't stand clutter. When I had the DVD/VCR hooked up to my big screen entertainment center, I had very little complaints other than the remote is complicated and the process can be frustrating. It also worked well with my Adelphia Digital Cable. Then I made the mistake of hooking it up to my bedroom television (A new Philips 32 inch flat screen) and it's been a disaster. I never noticed how incredibly loud and annoying the sound that this combo emits when hooked up to a smaller television. Even on the highest volume, the sound is dull and the unit actually hums. It's not the TV because when I watch cable, the sound is crystal clear. I tried cleaning the CD lens with one of those disc cleaners many times but to no avail. Also, various repairmen have claimed that it's just the product's quality and not a defect. I hooked it up to a few other high quality TVs around the house (ranging from 19 inches to 53 inches) and the sound doesn't waver...it's a nightmare.
71 I have taken 2 of these back...
I bought one of these for my wife on Mothers Day. The reviews were fantastic and this sounded like a winner. However, I took the first one back the next dat because sometimes when the tracks on the dvd switched, the screen would pixelate and skip part of a scene. This did not happen regularly. But it was very noticeable and happened several times during the movie. I am takeing our second one back today. Hopefully, third times a charm....
72 Great Machine!!
Real good machine for those who want to up grade to DVD but also do not want to get rid of their VHS Tapes. Also for those who do not have enough room for three or four pieces of equipment to play movies and CD's.
73 Very Nice Unit!
I have had the V2000 for about 3 weeks and have had no problems at all with this unit. The DVD spins quietly, (much quieter than my old JVC unit) the VCR plays smoothly, rewinds unbelievably fast and the remote does everything. My only complaint is that I've seen slightly better quality with VCR recordings, but it's hardly noticeable.
74 Samsung DVD/VCR/MP3 combo Unit
I absolutely love the Samsung DVD-2000 player !!

It is so easy to connect to your TV.... it combines so many different functions into one unit. You can use it to play DVD's, to play and record VHS tapes, to listen to CD's in a variety of formats including my own CD's recorded on my iBook in MP3 format.

We love the DVD-2000 so much that we just ordered a second unit to put in our camper for times when we're traveling away from home.

It's an attractive, multi-functional, easy to use player that anyone would enjoy owning.
