You want dependability, control, and dazzling screen color and images. Samsung designed the Ultra Clear High 955Df FS SyncMaster monitor to combine plug-and-play convenience in a 19-inch screen to optimize your graphics with intense color and flat-screen technology. Samsung has created a flat screen with no visible curvature that produces the images that you expect without the usual distortion of other monitors.
For designers and business owners who want to maximize their imaging and high-speed interactivity with an 18-inch viewable flat screen, the 955Df FS monitor features an intense color saturation in 0.20-millimeter dot pitch with 1,600 x 1,200 resolution at 68 Hz. This monitor delivers flicker-free, high-resolution brightness and contrast. Samsung highlights the DynaFlat flat screen design in an invar shadow-mask tube with antireflective coating. Onscreen digital user controls adjust position, size, moiré, color temperature (in100-degree increments in Kelvin), color control, focus, recall, contrast, brightness, horizontal/vertical size/position, zoom in/out, and language use, providing practical working convenience and renowned results.
High-resolution capabilities, crisp focus, vivid colors, and low heat and power consumption are united in the Samsung Df FS SyncMaster. With plug-and-play compatibility, the 955Df FS is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The monitor parts, labor, and picture tube are all supported by a limited three-year warranty.
It's easy to see why the SyncMaster DynaFlat is the most advanced screen in the world. The SyncMaster 955DF DynaFlat monitor features the flattest tube available. It is perfectly flat with no visible curvature from any angle. Combine that with superior color saturation and sharp, crystal-clear images, you'll find a performance level that's hard to match. Offering outstanding picture quality, Samsung SyncMaster 955DF is the best choice for your home or office!
1 1 Year Review
I've had this monitor for a little over a year now and it has performed well. The screen, though not the crispest, most beautiful picture available, is excellent for what I paid for it. The color accuracy is decent, with the adjustment controls being relatively straightforward. There are, however, a couple of problems that lowered the score of this monitor in my mind.
Issue #1: The cable connecting the monitor to the CPU is way too short. I have a moderately size L desk and the cable barely reaches the CPU. Indeed, the cable has sustained damage (I have to tape it to make it work properly) because of this. While extension cables are available, Samsung should have anticipated the need for a long cable by either making the cable longer or offering a way to disconnect the cable entirely so that the customer could substitute a longer cable.
Issue #2: The programs included with the monitor were translated poorly. While someone with a bit of technical knowledge can smirk through these mistakes, a novice might have some frustrating moments trying to figure out what the well-intentioned programmer meant. A note to Samsung: Hire better translators! ;-)
All in all, though, I have been pleased. The resolution suits my needs and I don't notice any problems with flicker or blurriness as some reviewers have mentioned.
2 Not too great
The main problem with this monitor is that almost all of the resolution and frequency combinations cause the screen to dance and wave. In other words, they are unusable unless you want to get a headache after using your computer for a few minutes. Only a few of the combinations work. For some reason, 60Hz and 1600*1200 works just fine. I'd choose a lower resolution so that everything on my screen wouldn't be really small, but the lower resolutions don't work, so I guess I'm stuck with this setting. Strange, in a bad way. This monitor was bought as a replacement for a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900u, which was also a 19". It gave me five good years before it decided it was time to go to monitor heaven. It was a great monitor while I had it.
CRT monitors are so cheap now; I can't imagine there aren't some good cheap CRT's. Check out what other customers say about other models. I guess I can't expect to get the same quality from a $200 monitor as I got from the $900 Mitsubishi. In any case, consider spending a bit more money on a better monitor. You are going to have to use it and look at it hour after hour. Get something else.
3 blur text drives me crazy.
I bought this monitor April 2001 and now its blur text drive me crazy. Playing with the control doesn't help. I am disppointed and will dump it.
4 An Incredible Monitor
I purchased this monitor about 3 years ago. It has the buttons on the front of the monitor (people in previous reviews have stated that this is the newer, more defective version).
I use the computer, on average, about 5-6 hours a day which includes gaming, mp3 playing, web surfing, and watching dvd's (hell, you can see the pores on peoples faces). This monitor has never failed me once! It's clarity at high resolutions is incredible and it's color is very robust (which is helped by the GeForce4's color enhancing).
I am building myself another pc in the next month because this computer is 3 years old. I am using all top of the line parts and this monitor will be the only hardware (except mouse and keyboard) that I am keeping to use with the new PC. It has been that good to me. I'm sorry that some have had problems with this monitor, but i've used the newer model for 3 years and have had absolutely NO problems with it.
It's 3 years old and after checking online hardware sellers to see if I needed to purchase a new monitor, I found out that this monitor was still better than most newer CRT's for it's viewing range and especially it's dot pitch (even after looking at higher priced monitors).
The only gripe I have is that it has low refresh rates for ultra-high (1280x1024 and bigger) resolutions, but no monitor can be that perfect and most monitors have lower refresh rates for higher resolutions.
Overall, this monitor has been excellent and more that I had expected.
5 This is a good monitor
I have had this monitor for 2 years now. Not a single problem. Matched with a high-end GeForce video card, this has been the best monitor I have owned. Absolutely no problems, extremely clear screen, and excellent high-res graphics.
I also like the faceplate. It doesn't have any annoying buttons or logos or other items to distract your view.
Well worth the purchase.
6 Great for gaming
I've been using this monitor for about 10 months. I use the internet alot, and the text is clear and easy to read. I don't like the refresh rates at resolutions higher than 1280 x 960, but that's high enough for me. After using this monitor, I'm spoiled ot the point where I can't use any monitor samller than 17 inches, and can barely manage even that. The thing is preferctly flat, very bright and just HUGE! While I do love the screen size, if physical space is a factor, look elsewhere. I went to this from a 17 inch SyncMaster 753DF, and the 2 inches in added screen size added about 6 inches of depth! Anyway, this thing rocks for games, I like it for movies, and don't really have any complaints.
7 Extreemly GOod Deal (Jump on This ASAP!!!!)
I am a constant gamer, up to 18 hours a day. I built my own computer and chose this monitor to be the crown on my queen. This is one of the best monitors i have seen in a while, and for the price it is absolutely excellent. I highly suggest you buy this monitor before the go out of production/stock/whatever.
8 Run, Don't Walk
As a computer professional I have purchased hundreds of monitors over the past 10 years. I have never purchased a worse one that this. I see that many of the problems I experienced have been documented by others here. I'll recap:
1. Blurry text. It was almost unreadable at the edges of the screen
2. I had the choice of the screen looking like this ( ) or ) (. No amount of playing with the controls would change it.
3. The top left corner was "scrunched" and again, nothing could fix it.
4. The whole screen was rotated about 5 degrees. And as with everything else, it could not be fixed.
Run, don't walk, away from this monitor. The one and only redeeming feature is the price.
9 Terrible Monitor
Any (and I mean any) other monitor would have been a better purchase. The test is ridiculously fuzzy at any setting. Any Trinitron based flat screen would beat this POS hands down. I can only run 1280 X 1024 at 60hz otherwise there is a very noticable "bounce" in the screen. The graphics are fuzzy and overall I am VERY disappointed in the purchase of this.
10 I Love this monitor.... This is the Best in the world~!
I am working in the company related with computer networking. So, I used a lot of monitors(dell, Sony 21', ViewSonic..)
This is much better than others. I love this...
This one has the highlight option. The design is very good and quality is excellent....
11 A very nice monitor
This is a very nice monitor. I'm a gamer, a video editor, and a web developer. I spend quite a bit of time on the computer every day and I've been using this monitor for over 2 years and it has been flawless. For the price there is NO comparison. I have 2 of these monitors and I would strongly suggest buying this monitor if your looking for an easily affordable tube monitor.
12 Read The Reviews!!! Fuzzy Text is Coming!!!
I have had this monitor for 2 years and the text is unreadable unless you have it set 1t the lowed DPI and the refresh rate low. so beware!
13 One very big problem
My coating is wearing off. My monitor is 3 1/2 yrs old and they won't fix it. I watched as each time I wiped my screen, once a month or less, that a small line appeared. That has spread to a hole about 2" square almost in the middle of the screen, It now feels like I am looking through a picket fence to see my work, bobbing my head and moving things up and down so the hole is out of the part I am looking at.
I have to buy a new one because of this hole, but not Samsung.
Carl
14 Poor Quality
I've had a 955DF for almost 3 years now. The first one was nice except for some blurring as someone mentioned in another review. It lasted about 4 months before the coils(?) began to fail and it emitted a very high pitched squealing noise whenever booting or rebooting. Low refresh rates?
The first replacement was physically different and lasted about 4 months before failing exactly as the first. They changed the monitor and made it the "budget" model at some point from when I payed $464 for mine, and 2002 when they were about $200. The new version is of much lower quality across the board so I wind up with a $200 budget monitor that I payed $464 for when it was a mid-top of the line model and was indeed a much better monitor.
Today, I received my 2nd replacement monitor from Samsung (my 3rd 955DF in this fiasco). This one is absolute garbage. the coils are going bad and squealing right out of the box!!! The screen has dark cloudy spots on it and the right side of the screen is about 3/8 of an inch shorter than the left. This can not be adjusted out. Imagine a rectangle, then shrink the right side so the top horizontal line falls 3/8 inch down and you get my new monitor.
The first version of this monitor (the one with a pull out, hide-away tray with the buttons on it like the image on this page, not buttons right on the front) was OK but with the defective coils that it STILL has in the newer version. The new version is cheap, budget junk and will most likely fail much sooner than you would expect because Samsung is still using the cheap, defective components.
Run away from this monitor. Any no-name cheapo will be as good or better, unless you can get the old 2000 model.
15 Very nice monitor for the price
I'm a network engineer and have worked with Many different monitors and I really like this one. I spend approximately 12-16 hours a day working on computers. At work I have a Sony 19" which is GREAT (But cost a LOT more) and I use this Samsung at home (about 30 hours a week). I use this monitor for web design, graphics, and everything else a network engineer does. I like this monitor enough that today I'm here to buy another one for my dad. I've recommended this monitor to several of my friends. One friend bought the same monitor and is also pleased. I don't know what else I could say. It's not perfect but it's definitely very nice and well worth the $$.
16 Do More Research
I have found that if you do some very in-depth research and price watching for monitors, you can find a really good deal... and this is not one of them. I've owned this monitor for about 2 years now, and while it's better than a lot of monitors out there for the same price, I have since realized I could have done a little more research and gotten away with a much better monitor for just a few bucks more, if not less.
As a graphic designer who works exclusively on Macs using OS X, I need a lot of screen real-estate. Even though OS X offers a great color calibration tool within itself, an additional third party color calibration tool would be nice, and Samsung neglects the Mac community in that respect. But the color is not my main complaint regarding this monitor...
My main complaints regarding this monitor are resolution and blur. First of all, any 19" CRT monitor should be able to get to 1280x1024 at 85Hz. 1280x1024 at 75Hz leaves much to be desired in refresh rate. I can see significant flicker at that rate. I should be able to get to 1600 and maintain a 75Hz refresh rate.
Secondly, there's a lot of blur with this monitor. When I get on other monitors of the same size (and nearly the same price) from the likes of Sony or NEC, everything is SIGNIFICANTLY sharper. I get on my 955DF and try to fix the blur, only to find that once it looks crisp and sharp in the center of the screen, the edges and corners are so blurry I can hardly read text... and vice versa. The blur is really my main gripe. It has gotten to the point where it drives me crazy now everytime I look at it. And no, it's not defective and I don't have any magnetic objects near the monitor. I've tried everything to no avail.
Really... you get what you pay for and this is a perfect example. If you want to just surf the web and check email, this is the monitor for you. The color is quite good, and the flat screen is great... But if you're in design at all, or make videos or fix photos, or want to play games or watch movies, seriously consider investing in a better monitor. There's a lot of numbers to concentrate on when researching, but it pays off. Paying $50 more for a monitor will put you into a new realm of displays that are well worth the extra cost... believe me.
17 Great...but
I think all the great stuff about this monitor has already been said- color, flatness, and such. The one problem I would point out is that the physical screen size seems to always be shifting. When I turn on the monitor the screen area is past the edges of the screen meaning things get cut off. After a few minutes, the screen returns to normal. It gets a little annoying and I've never seen it with other screens. The other thing is the samsung software for ajusting the color settings. It just doesn't seem to work that well and only screws up programs such as Adobe Gamma. Although a great monitor at a great price, you must remember that it is not quite top of the line. No one would leave the resolution at 1600x1200 as the refresh rate is too slow. With that in mind, buy it if you want the best low priced 19" monitor on the market. And get it in black, it looks better.
18 It flashes after 6 month
although I adjusted the refresh rate to 75Hz, still not good.
19 Excellent clarity
I really like this monitor. It has excellent color quality and clarity and a very flat screen; for the price it cannot be beat. It has a color profile associated with it and some nice software to set up your color so that you know you are seeing red when red is on the screen.
For this price I think you cannot go wrong.
20 Samsung - move over Viewsonic !
I just received my 955 today; after reading all the other reviews and checking Samsung's website, I have to say, now that I have it, this is a NICE monitor. The set-up went fast and I haven't noticed any of the faults mentioned in some of the reviews, ie, distortion, fading, etc. One thing I do notice is that it does get warm in the back. If you are using it in a semi-enclosed space, like a computer desk, you might consider mounting a small fan in the enclosure.
21 average
I had a 17" Samsung 753df and that was one of if not the best 17" monitor I have ever used. Fooled by that I bought 955df and so far it is a disappointment. My basic issues with it are:
1: The monitor has a significan loss of contrast at the center of the screen, or as described by other users - line distortion,
which significanly strains the eyes, especially if you try to correct the moire and compromises the benefits of a small pixel size.
2.It does not not have anti-glare coating - also quite disturbing, especially when compared to 753df, which had an extremely successful one. As a whole 955df can be used as a mirror.
3. Do not be fooled by the statement that the monitor has a perfectly flat tube. The glass surface is, but the luminophore layer has a slight curvature, that becomes bothersome when compared with the straight edge of the case.
4. The monitor that I have is in a black case and the polished plastic edge around the screen reflects light from the screen and once again contributes to my bad experience.
Choose carefully what you buy!
22 You Will Enjoy This GREAT Monitor - A Best Buy !!
I finally got my new Samsung 955DF monitor from Amazon and hooked it up in less than 10 minutes. With its "plug and play" convenience, the monitor was up and running in no time. With the arrival of the new hotrod LCD panels, the stakes have been raised for CRT monitors, especially large sized models in the 19" category, so my expectations were high.
I must say, the Samsung surpasses all my expectations. This is a WONDERFUL monitor with bright, saturated colors. Image and contrast quality are SUPERB. Unlike some other 19" monitors, "blacks" appear solid and dark, not washed out. My one pet peeve for any monitor is when dark colors appear "washed out"; on the Samsung 955, that is not the case. Its image quality gives this monitor the look of a $1,000 bucks. Even small fonts appear legible and crisp.
Of course with its unbelievably low price, there are a few minor tradeoffs. As other buyers have alluded to (for some, it is a major issue), most noticeable is the somewhat visible geometric distortion for straight lines. Again, this would depend how "finicky" your eyes are. What this means is that a straight line going across your screen may "dip" in the middle of the screen. On mine the visual appearance is there if you look at the screen long and hard enough, but it does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the images. Of course for any budget-priced monitor, there is a tradeoff expected. But on the Samsung, they are few and quite tolerable for the fussy-minded consumer.
All in all, this Samsung 955 flat screen 19" is a GREAT buy, and yes, it meets and SURPASSES all my expectations what a 19" CRT monitor is and should be, and it does not break the bank. Its best virtues being a SHARP image and GORGEOUS colors with NICE contrasts. Text quality is top notch with even tiny fonts being very legible. For the student, homemaker, or web surfer, this monitor will satisfy your needs immensely and I consider myself a fussy consumer.
Unless you have the $$$ to plunck down $700-$800 for a 17" LCD flat panel, this Samsung monitor is the next best thing. For your money, this monitor would be $$$ well spent and makes a great investment. You may even find yourself reluctant to log off the screen----you see, the Samsung can become quite addicting!
Samsung seems to be telling consumers just because a product is budget-priced doesn't mean it has to look and work like one. Get the Samsung 955----you'll LOVE it!!
P.S.---Their customer service is also Excellent. I was able to reach a live person within 2 to 3 minutes on the two occasions I called. Their 3-year warranty should keep you well covered.
23 Great Monitor
This monitor is great. I was skeptical as it was a samsung instead of a big name monitor company but pleasantly surprised. It would be my top choice for a 19" monitor on a budget or even as a mid range choice.
24 Too good to be real
Without a doubt the picture quality and features are excellent. The size, flat screen contour, price, and picture clarity make this an excellent value monitor. Unfortunately, I only got 4 weeks use out of mine averaging 15 hours per week before it went kaput. I am being told that an IC on the CRT board has failed. I get no picture whatsoever, although the on-screen prompts for picture settings are visible. Undoubtedly this deal seemed too good to be real. Alas, it was not real at all.
25 no color settings
I bought this Monitor in Aug 2002, so i have the newer syle with the buttons right on the monitor. Overall its a good monitor but i wish i spent a bit more to buy something nice. Right out of the box, as soon as i turned it on, the edges looked like this --> ( ) <--. After playing with it for about 2 hours i got them to look like this --> ) ( <-- so take your pick. if you totally screw up the settings press "Recall" and your settings will revert back to factory specs. The control buttons let you choose two modes, one is called "Highlight Zone" and the other is the regular settings. The "Highlight Zone" lets you adjust the red blue and greens to let you customize the color, you can get a fairly good picture the only problem is that if your in the "Highlight zone", your monitor will switch back to normal settings after a few hours. The regular settings dont allow you to adjust the color, so you can see the dilema, you can choose between a blue screen or a yellow screen (im not kidding) so you only have two pre-defined color settings to choose from, unless you want to press the "highlight Zone" button every 2 hours. My monitor came with software that allows you to adjust the colors through Windows. After playing with it for some time i understand the reason this is not incorporated into the control buttons, there is nothing you can do to get a decent picture, unless your happy with a blue or yellow picture. The Reviews i read all said that unless you were a Digital Developer you would not notice the difference in color. Im not a Digital Developer. This monitor is not worth the money i spent, it really [is bad].
26 Good monitor...if it works
I've had this monitor about a week. Upon getting it and hooking it up I was very impressed with the brightness of the screen and the quality of images. Although when using the web text, particularly smaller text, is very fuzzy and looks like it fades.
However, today I encountered a major problem. DO NOT use the highlight feature. While exploring what my monitor could do I pressed the highlight button to highlight a portion of my screen and it seems to have blown out the backlight on the monitor. Now everything is nowhere near as bright as it was when I purchased the monitor except for a few seconds after returning on the highlight feature. My IE pages now appear off white unlike the brillient white they were just earlier today.
I'll be returning this to Samsung for a replacement.
27 Bad geometry
This monitor (compared to my old 17" MAG from 6 years ago) had somewhat washed-out colors and was a little fuzzy, but the real problem was that the bottom right corner was bowed in a little. I used it for a week thinking I was being too picky and that I would get used to it, but it was driving me nuts and I took it back to Best Buy to have it replaced. I took the replacement out at the store to make sure the geometry was good; good thing, because that one's top edge curved down.
If you can get one of these that works as designed, it's probably great for the price. Just be wary of the quality. Another reviewer complained about the geometry, so I know I'm not the only one. I'm glad I returned mine when I did; if mine failed after a few weeks/months (as some seem to), it would have been a bigger hassle.
Just a side note, but almost half of the products returned at Best Buy that day were Samsung products. VCRs, LCD screens, DVD players, everything. I'm not going to buy another one of their products regardless of how good a deal it is.
28 update on the monitor
this monitor is great if your using it to read and surf the web. However, if you are chosing to watch dvds, movies, and look at pics don't get this monitor. The image quality for this monitor viewing JPEG, and MPEG is very poor. I'm updating my past post "decent product". I felt from the prolong expose to this monitor, I have to state some facts to people considering to buy it. If I had a choice over, to chose a pc monitor, I will not be so sure if I would have chose this monitor. It's works well in some aspects such and regular normal uses, but for viewing, it's seems like it doesn't really cut the bottom line.
in the past post, i've stated it works well with high quality JPEG and MPEG, but I've tried to played high quality MPEG(example: 700MB files) and have gotten poor images. That is not suppose to happen. I'm a little disappointed but for the price of the product, it's a deal. But sometimes, I'm wondering does the anti-glare work 100 bucks? Because regular CPT are running for about 150bucks, and bestbuy has this stuff for free delievery. This monitor costs around 220 not including shipping, which is an additional 40bucks, totaling to about 260bucks, which is a difference of 110 bucks. If the anti-glare doesn't matter to you, or for a matter of fact, if the anti-glare even works, you might want to consider another monitor. For those people seeking high quality imaging, I suppose Sony, i think sony product is slightly better for this technology, and the results should be more desirable.
29 57 Days
57 days is how long this monitor lasted. I liked the picture and the reviews were fairly positive, but it just died. Oddly enough, it was a white screen of death.
Now, Samsung will allow me to pay to send it back to them and they will happily provide me with a refurbished model. This means I get to pay list plus shipping for a refurbished monitor.
Maybe after two tries they can get it right?
Don't waste your time or money!!
30 I love this awesome monitor!
This is the first monitor I have really grown to love.
Here's why.:
1: It's big. Real big.
2: The screen is FLAT!! Way less glare.
3: The screen is perfectly bright. It's settings allow brighter display than most.
4: The resolution is awesome. Handles very high resolution w/o overheating or anything.
5: It's a perfect exterior color, likely to match your computer system and surrounding environment.
6: It has a classy design.
For me, it's just a perfect monitor!! I'd way rather have it then pay almost double for a decent 15" flat panel monitor. Maybe in a couple years when flat panels have higher resolution (like the HDTV flat panels) and when they are way cheaper, then I'll buy a big one of those. But for now, I have the desk space.
My monitor provides me the perfect computer environment. Since the screen is a dynaflat, sunlight reflection doesn't irritate me as it used to with my other monitors. Since it's also big, I now lean back in my chair, lift up my legs and rest my cordless logitech keyboard on my lap. My back feels better. My shoulders feel better. My wrists feel better. My eyes feel better. My whole body feels better.
Just make sure you do what's right for you and get the best monitor you deserve. I love this one. I'd recommend it to anyone.
31 it's a "decent" product
to all consumers shopping for a pc monitor! Samsung Dynaflat Syncmaster 955DF 19" CRT Monitor is decent monitor. It's not the best of quality but it's suitable. I've only used it for a couple of days and realize it has some problems with full mode view. It seems to function well with high quality JPEG and MPEG. But with low quality it has extremely poor imaging. I've use windows media player 7.0, and view files at full mode, and gotten worse quality compared to my old regular dell CRT. With high quality files, this monitor enhances the beauty of the images, so it's not a complete lost nor great bargain. It's a fair valued item.
32 AMAZONMAZING!
a great system for people that dont have a big purse but want the latest in technology, this system provides it. For all thoes gamers out there, this is a great system for all you computing needs like me. I always think that bigger is better and sertenly applies to this product!
33 Incredible Value and Performance
This monitor is, quite simply, the best 19" display I have seen. It works flawlessly, and is available for far less money than any of its closest competitors. Consider this: When I was in the market for my new PC, I was looking for a quality 17" display. The price of the 955DF allowed me to puchase a 19" display instead, with an amazing .20 dot pitch to boot!
The only disadvantage that I've found with this monitor is that it is very deep. If the furniture you expect to put it on is close to the wall, you'd better measure it against the 955DF's dimensions and those of your other desk equipment (keyboard, mouse) to make sure everything will fit.
In short, I cannot recommend this monitor highly enough. It's an excellent piece of equipment that will last you for years and years, and you can purchase it for the price of a mid-level 17" display!
34 Most bang for your buck!
You won't get a flat screen 19 inch monitor for this price anywhere else. I've been using for 7~8 months now, and I did not have a single problem with this. I read a complaint about driving 30 min to get it fixed-- but I do believe Samsung has advanced fix program where you call them, and they will send you a new one and charge your credit card, and after you receive your product, you send your broken one back, and they will credit your credit card back. How easy is that?
Strongly recommended!

38 The SDS955DF 19" monitor is a real bargain.
I'll keep it short and sweet. This is a really good buy, made even better by the ... rebate...so, if you are thinking about this monitor, buy soon ... Unless you have bionic eyes you will find this monitor satisfies your needs, and won't destroy your budget.
39 Most Bang for the Buck - And Then Some!
Just received the 955DF monitor. Quick and easy set-up.
The quality is among the best I have seen. Very Close to perfect image for text and graphics. I am extremely satisfied. You can get better quality,(Not much better) for more money, but for most uses, this is the monitor to buy.
If I had it to do over, I would buy another monitor just like this.
40 Samsung 955DF 19"
For the money I paid for it I was pleasantly surprised color is very good. Only downside is menu in front of the set which is somewhat difficult to operate in expaning picture to all four corners
41 Blurry till it has been on for a few hours
I don't know if the monitor I bought is defective but have never had a problem with picture quality before and as soon as I hooked this up I saw the screen images were blurry. So much so that I could not use it. I hooked it up late at night, saw the screen and left it on overnight thinking I would unhook it and ship back for refund. In the morning it was ok basically, not great picture but not blurry. What's the deal, piece of junk?
42 Great Monitor
I already have one and am getting another. It's a great monitor. Very clear and easy on the eyes.
43 Price and quality are unbeatable
Absolute surprise sums up my opinion of this monitor. Bright, crisp, clear and very flat. The range of controls for the display are great. The casing is attractive and the monitor has a very small footprint for its size. I've seen no problems in resolutions from 640x480 to 1600x1200. Small text is defined and easy to read, even at 1600x1200. I can even read 8-point text viewing the full page in MS-Word at 1600x1200 resolution.
The only problem I've encountered is that when switching to full screen with the software running my TV-tuner card, I end up with about 1/2" excess space on the top and bottom. Pry something to do with refresh rates in switching resolution.
44 Didn't know what to expect...
After reading all the reviews posted here, I at first was alittle hesitant to order the monitor. Some said it was bad, others said great, others just said it was worth the price paid.
I have to say I am very very pleased with the monitor, picture is great, controls adjust the picture fine and I love it.
Would recomment it to others!
45 Great price, good monitor, not spectacular
I bought this monitor for a great price, and it is plenty big and plenty flat.
My old comment stated there were problems with my monitor; I've since found that they were problems with my KVM switch and its capability to drive this monitor at high resolutions. Any modern KVM switch would have no problems, mine is *old*.
46 NICE AND PERFACT MONITOR/SAMSUNG DID A GOOD JOB
When I order it I thought It'll be take a long time for delivery. However It takes only 4 days. Now, I'm telling you about this monitor. The imasge what I thought is totally different to the thumnail image that is above. It's cool and simple. Moreover It's same size as other 17 inch monitor. In a short words, it's a space saver monitor. Display screen is clear and bright !! Easy to control the configuration of monitor function. Don't be late and loose this item. It's perfect and nice price !! Monitor=Samsung=Korea !
nice item !!

48 I'm happy with this monitor
Reading these reviews can drive you crazy. Just when you think you want to buy a product, someone will write something to make you think twice. I've only had the monitor for one day but so far, I just can't see anything that can make it better. The text is crisp and the images are sharp. I do heavy graphical work and find the 955df to be more than adequate. When you consider the price, you could easily spend that money on a 17"....The 955df I recieved has it's controls on the face like any other monitor.
Other than that, it's a great deal.
49 Great Deal Can not Beat it with a stick!
I shopped for monitors, and shopped some more, read all the reviews, then came back to Amazon and got this monitor. 19" and for the money it is a very nice monitor. I have it configured and I work with Mac 21" calibrated monitors all day, my eyes are not decieving me. At this price along with the shipping deal, and the reliability of Amazon there is no going wrong. Toss in a couple of other items, a coupon, and the free shipping (Received it in 4-days), what more could you ask for?
In Heaven...
50 You get what you pay for
This monitor is not for people who are perfectionists and must have everything perfect, this monitor just does not have what it takes for these people. Yes it has a flat screen, but it is not possible to make it geometrically square and text is less that satisfactory. Does look good for games however. This is a middle grade monitor for a decent price.
51 Good price - decent quality
This monitor was a real deal, considering a lot of other monitors that have the same tube technology and technical ratings (or less) cost a whole lot more! (See LG Electronics)
I just bought this monitor, and find that it was more than I was looking for. 19" is a real increase in screen space for me, but too often I find that this does not mean high quality.
This Samsung 955DF monitor is worth every penny. I just hope they do not get smart and lift the price.
I need to save money, and I am glad that I choose this.
52 As good as it gets...
I've waited for several years to purchase a new 19" monitor (DF955). Samsung 955DF monitor has the right combination for my home use. Control adjustment menu is easy to use and monitor was preset very close to my needs from the factory. It is big and heavy - however, the price and performance combination is impossible to beat. One huge caveat - no horizontal black lines which plague Sony based monitors. Very flat, true colors without corner distortion. Five stars from me for ~$... .
53 Darn Good Bargin
This monitor really surprised me. It has a true flat screen and a relativly small footprint compared to my old Princeton monitor. The text is nice and sharp easy to read. The colors it produces are fantastic very bright and crisp. About the only thing I wish was different is setting up the size of the desktop or I should say making the adjustments so everything is centered, using all the viewable area, and making sure it is straight. The booklet that comes with it helps a little and has a few helpful tips.
54 Wow
This monitor is the best that I have seen. I have friends with the expensive trinitron, Dell, Compac, and HP. This monitor is clearer than all of them. I first bought one for my mother on Mother's Day and loved it so much that when i got my new computer I had to get one. It's just as crisp and clear as hers. Photos are brillant and the text is crisp as can be.
The monitor is BIG and requires a lot of space but at this price and having the best picture, it's worth the large size. You won't be sorry.
55 Wow - a great deal!
When shopping for a new monitor, I resisted buying this Samsung because of my pre-conceived notions of the company: I remember when Samsung stood for flimsy electronics. No more. This 19 inch monitor has a sharp, flicker-free display that competes with the best - for an affordable price, too. The controls on the latest 955DF are no longer inside a flip open box on the console, but are in plain view. Some people might find the less-sleek look disappointing, but I appreciate the easy access. I also like how easy it is to swivel the screen from side to side to position it for better viewing.
My last monitor was a 17 inch Sony Triniton. One week after its warranty expired, the screen turned blue, proving that price does not buy you longevity. I was not about to drop a bundle again for a piece of equipment that might not last long. Side by side, the Samsung, even with its bigger screen size, is much crisper, with an even flatter, distortion free display. (Obviously, I can't compare color reproduction.) Plus, it doesn't have the characteristic Triniton line on the screen.
For Mac users like me, you can be assured that it is compatible, with no extra hardware needed to hook it up.
Since I just bought this monitor, I can't attest to its long-range performance, but I could not be happier with right now. I highly recommend it.
56 Price/Performance Ration Can't Be Beat
The Samsung 955DF is a flat screen 19" monitor that has good overall performance. Keep in mind; however, that you'll get what you pay for. It will not offer good performance at all above 1280x1024 as the refresh rate is to low for most. I, as well as the people I gave this monitor to, run it at 1024x768 with 100Hz refresh rate. For office use this will keep your eyes happy all day long. Despite this, at less than $300 it is an awesome value for those that do not work will a lot of graphics or multimedia viewing/editing. I have personally bought three of them, as the price/performance ration can't be beat.
Also, it should be noted that Samsung has released two revisions of the 955DF with the same model number. The one in the amazon.com photo as of today (2001.12.01) is of the first revision. To the best of my knowledge Samsung is no longer producing this version so the one you receive may look slightly different. The biggest change is that the James Bondish pop-out control buttons have been replaced with standard digital buttons directly below the screen. I'm not sure why they did this because most people loved the James Bond style controls. The footprint is also slightly smaller and the colors are slightly brighter.
57 After the problems are solved....
I purchased a 955DF 19" a year ago. About 6 months after the purchase the monitor started making the hissing noise (while still delivering on the quality). I called Samsung, they arranged for a refurbished model as a replacement. It went 1 month after I got it (the colors turned blue). I got another refurb from Samsung (they do not do brand new replacements, since I did not get it from the store -- bought mine on-line). Overall, it is an awesome monitor, though a bit bulky. I spend 12+ hours a day in front of the computer and it is definitely a nice one to look at. The warranty is for 3 years, so I figured I will keep on replacing it until I get it perfect :))
58 What are you waiting for?
Flat screen, 3 year factory warranty, .20 Dot Pitch, this price after rebate. BUY IT! This monitor is great! Excellent resolution and an easy interface for adjustments.
59 Good Image--Noisy Tube
The SyncMaster 955DF is a great Shadow Mask monitor, and is especially sharp with text. 3 stars only because it is an exceedingly noisy monitor. It's tube emits high frequencies but not high enough for human ear. I returned the monitor to the merchant. The noise might not be heard in a noisy showroom but will (considering you have a good hearing) in a quite room. Overall, if you are hard of hearing, or is not bothered by a high frequency buzz (not the type a regular TV emits, but much louder and lower in frequencies--I would say, in the 15,000 Hz) then get this monitor.

61 Is not truly flat.
Try looking at it sideways. You'll notice that it is not flat. Samsung Dynaflat technology is NOT FLAT. You need to know that. It is more like a normal monitor with a lot of glass. You'll notice that that glass is very thick. Think of it as a lens that makes the picture flat.
Pro's: Due to the fact that it doesn't really use flat technology the quality is consistent. You most probably won't get stuck with a dud. Also this technology has no horizontal lines (unlike aperture grill, or NF) because it is just normal shadow mask technology.
Con's: Glass is thick. The monitor itself is huge. It really isn't flat.
62 Great monitor; great price
All the magazines I've read so far rate this as a "best buy", so I went to Best Buy couple of nights ago and looked at about 10 different brands. I found the Samsung 955DF just as good as any of the other brands. Viewsonic was my second choice, but I prefer the 955DF's control board (you push a button and a panel comes out of the monitor)....very nice...As for the gentleman (or woman) who is having problems with his/her monitor should consider returning it for a new one, maybe it's defective. I'm going to buy another one for fathers day coming up soon........
63 Awesome
i can't belive how much of a diffrence this new monitor makes. I went from an old 17" Dell monitor. this new 19"(18" view) is great. words cant decribe how wonderful this monitor really is. i love it.
64 Three words about this monitor: "..."
Do not believe what you have read in the trade magazine about the accolades nor the Samsung's claim of "the 955df being most advanced screen in the world", nor the positive reviews on amazon regarding this monitor. Simply stated, this monitor is an INFERIOR product. Why? The text is FUZZY as hell, and my screen has vertical lines all over. BOTH have given me a GIGANTIC headache. (BTW, I am using a first class video card with a first class pc made by Dell. I do not have these problames with my Sony nor the Viewsonic monitors.). You are suggested to view the monitor before purchase. Let your eyes be the judge. I was swayed by the great reviews (which I vehemently disagree with now that I own the 955df) and the cheap price of it. And did not take the opportunity to look before purchase. Don't make the same mistake. I will never purchase a Samsung again. I'd give this monitor a D. At the end and as always, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
65 Great Monitor, Great Price
This is a beautiful monitor. VERY flat screen.
I am pretty picky and I've got no complaints. I've experienced no problems with it so far (in fact, I'm ordering a second one to replace an older 17" monitor).
66 Fantastic monitor, great price!
I bought this monitor because a computer magazine rated it very high on thier list. I am not disappointed!
This is a fantastic monitor for the price.
67 Nice Try, But Doesn't Quite Make The Mark
This monitor has vivid colors. The lack of the infamous Trinitron horizontal lines are a welcome relief for someone that looks at a lot of text. Convergence is not too much of a problem, except at the far edges of the screen. The price is very good for a 19" flat screen. Unfortunately, I can not recommend this monitor due to poor quality control on Samsung's part. The first monitor had a light green stripe down the left side for the screen, the second had yellow splotches all over the viewing area, and the third monitor had the same problem as the first. Three strikes and you're out!
To be fair, I used the monitors on three different systems and experienced similar results. A call and e-mail to Samsung resulted in the following statements, "...the monitor is probably defective..." and "...19-inch monitors are very sensitive to magnetic fields..." Several trips to the local Samsung authorized service center disproved the "magnetic field" theory.
If you are mainly into gaming and don't see a lot of white area, the monitor should be fine. If the converse is true, be prepared for some defects.
