Samsung VM-A680 PCS Video Mail Phone (Sprint)

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth

Overview

Compatible with Sprint PCS cell phone service, the Samsung VM-A680 sports a high-end (for a cell phone) video and digital camera, full compatibility with the (optional) Sprint PCS ergonomic game pad, plus a WAP Internet browser, and plenty of phone and organizer features, all displayed on an easy to read, 128 x 160, 65K STN color display.

Calling Features

Used simply as a phone, the VM-A680 benefits from a 5-way scroll key for easy menu navigation and dialing. Primary calling features include a voice-activated phone book and dialing, call timers, redial, any-key answer, auto-answer, mute control, no-answer transfer, one-touch 911, vibrating ring, differential ring, and a phone book capacity of 200 entries. There's also picture caller ID, so users can attach pictures they take with the built in camera and attach them to corresponding phone book contacts. There's also 32-chord polyphonic tones and alerts, and the VM-A680 is TTY compatible for hearing- or speech-impaired users, with select TTY devices.

Internet

With a PCS Business connection, users can access e-mail and view full color versions of popular Web sites.

Organizer

Organizer features include an internal phone book calendar, to-do list, voice memo function, world clock, alarm, countdown timer, and calculator.

Video and Camera

The fairly sophisticated video-capture feature lets you take a 15-second video clip of whatever you like, then save and send the performance to your friends, family, or co-workers via the phone’s built-in e-mail. There's a self-timer, digital zoom, plus brightness and resolution controls, and even a little movie light for illumination during night shoots. The still camera can also take and send pictures via advanced text messaging, and it comes with brightness, color tone, black and white option, and a handy multi-shot feature that lets you, you can capture up to 15 images to produce albums of sequential action photos.

Game Pad Option

One of the more interesting things about the VM-A680 is its gamepad accessory, (sold separately), which is designed to provide an arcade- or home-gaming-like experience on the VM-A680's color screen. It allows players to execute simultaneous moves, like evading and firing at the same time. A variety of interesting game packages are also available for the phone, including Retro (comes with the games Ms. Pac Man, Galaxian Mini, Missile Command, Centipede, Q*Bert, and more), Kids Games (includes Disney‘s Lilo and Stitch--Space Escape, Pooh‘s Honey Pot Challenge, Ice Cream Man, Drop ‘N‘ Find, and Bubble Blast), and many more.

Vital Statistics

The Samsung VM-A680 weighs 3.4 ounces and measures 3.26 x 1.81 x 0.87 inches. Its Lithium Ion batteries are rated at up to 192 minutes talk time and up to 216 hour standby. The phone supports English and limited Spanish text prompts, and features an extendable antenna and headset jack.

1 Would've given it a five, but...
I've had this phone for almost 4 months and I love almost everything about it. The only thing I don't like about it is when I talk to people, I can actually hear myself afterwards. People who have this phone might understand what I'm talking about. It's also hard to hear, too. But, I got this nice little blue headset and it makes things clearer. The phone is pretty good if you want to fork over about 50 bucks for a headset. Overall, it's a neat little phone. I don't understand why someone had a problem with the external camera button. The camera doesn't go off if the phone is closed inside your pocket. And the voice memo feature may not remind you when you open the phone, but if you use the text memo feature, it will ring and remind you on the exact time and date you set it to ring.
2 Worst piece of technology I've ever owned
The user interface of this phone is just awful. I can't believe how it is designed. Most features are completely non-intuitive. The first day I received the phone, I couldn't figure out how to get it to vibrate-mode. I looked in the manual and it referred me to page 29, but it turned out pages 28-32 were MISSING from the manual. I went on-line to find another manual, but page 29 had nothing relevant. I finally figured it out by accident.

Another example: I keep the phone in my pocket; every time I go to take a picture with the phone, it's memory is full. Of what? Of pictures of the inside of my pocket. The external buttons are constantly getting depressed in my pocket and I don't see any way to lock the buttons to prevent this. So I need a belt-mounted case I guess, but I hate things hanging from my belt.

Another example: there is a voice-memo feature which is GREAT to have. However, if you leave yourself a voice memo, you have to REMEMBER that you left yourself a voice memo: there is no indicator on the main panel to remind you. So it's a useless feature for me.

The voice dialing does not work at all; I did all the training and still it cannot find the simplest of names. I say "Ty" and it says, "did you say Bob?" I say "no" it says "did you say Rob?" I say "no" and it gives up. What a joke! I never use it.

Warning: you can take low-quality pix, which is great, but even with the low res, the camera is VERY slow, and you canNOT get
the pix off of the camera without paying Sprint for a special service to do so. And it ain't cheap. So I don't use the camera mostly because the pix have to stay on the camera (I refuse to pay the $5 to transfer them).

There are many many other useability problems... too many to list.

The biggest problem is that the phone book has a serious bug whereby it will crosslist numbers sometimes erasing other numbers. I have a phonebook now where if I change Andrew's work number to 123, it changes my wife's cell number to 123. If I erase one, it erases the other. Then I reenter the number and it changes Bob's home number to 123. It's crazy! I'm a computer science professor and the past owner of 4 diff cell phones... I know how to use technology. This product is simply awful.

3 Great little phone, would definitely recommend
I personally love everything about this little phone. I was first attracted to it because of it's size and design. It is very small and can fit in the palm of your hand. I also wanted a phone with a camera, which this has, and a good one at that. I have had this phone for about 6 months now, and I am still finding things that I love about it. Everytime I think to myself... I wonder if my phone has this feature... it usually does! I love the voice dialing, the sound is wonderful. I can always hear my ringer, and you have the option of vibrate just in case. All in all, I would say that this is the best cell phone I have ever owned.
4 Good Price Good Phone
Ive had this phone for over 4 months now and have been nothing but delighted with this phone. Good battery life, good sound, the ringers are loud. If you are out in the market for a good quality phone for a decent price you should really take a look at this phone. Its easy to use and the camera and video is so easy a kid can use it.
5 Feature-rich but poor audio
Yes, this phone is good in almost everyway except the main thing I bought it for: talking/listening. The speaker sounds distorted and muffled -- much worse than my 3-year-old LG 5250. I'm considering returning or exchanging the VM-A680.
6 I never thought I would buy another Samsung...
I never thought I would own another Samsung after my ordeals with the Samsung N400. I had nothing but problems with that phone...and was thrilled to get rid of it.

So when I went shopping for a new phone, at first I was dead set against getting a Samsung....but this phones size won me over. And its proved to be a good little phone.

This phone is so small...and cute. I can comfortably just drop it into one of the front pockets on my jeans and forget about it. It has a sturdy feel to it...yet its not very heavy. The external lcd screen can be set to display a digital clock, one of many analog clocks, or a picture you have taken with the camera. It also works as a picture ID for incoming calls. It also notifies you when you recieve a new voicemail, text message, picture mail, its a view finder for self portraits and lets you know when you missed a call. And when its not doing any of that, it becomes a little mirror. (very prone to fingerprints)

The camera and 15 second camcorder are kind of cute. Either can be used for the photo ID or set as a screen saver...which is nice.

The keys are small but easy to use. There is a special button just to access the camera easily...and also another camera button on the side of the phone. The camera offers three different resolution settings (Low:160X120, Med:320x240, and High:640X480) and three Quality settings: Fine, Normal & Economy. It does have a flash (which you can set to always use, use on one shot only...or turn it off) It has a Self Timer, fun frames and lets you take multishots. You can also adjust the color tones, brightness and white balance. The camcorder gives you the option to make a silent movie.

The volume control gives you 8 levels...plus Level 8 + Vibrate, just vibrate, 1 beep, or silence all. I wish you could add the vibrate to any level of volume rather than just 8.

It offers Text Messaging which is really cool. My N400 didnt have it. And in addition to sending just text, you can send one of your videos or pictures.

The Call history is much better than the N400. With the N400 if someone called twice in a row, it would just show the last call in the History. But with this one, it lists every call along with the call information.

Overall, I'm very happy with my phone!

I left out quite a bit that has already been covered by previous reviewers. I hope this helped.

7 Horrible Audio
I have never written a review but after seeing all the raves about this phone I thought it would be wrong for me to not speak up. Yes it is a very cute phone, yes it tiny. The pictures and video are alot of fun but if you are buying a phone to actually talk to someone, stay away from this one. The sound quality was horrible, even worse if calling other sprint cell phones. The best way to describe it, is it sounds like you are in a tunnel. The phone was exchanged for the Sanyo 8200 and what a world of difference in sound quality. I know others say they love this phone, I wish I could have said the same.
8 Love It
I went from a very cheap, do nothing phone to this one. I love this phone. The video is awesome. The pics aren't the very best, but they are better than a lot I have seen on lesser phones. I researched quit a bit before making this purchase and I feel I have made a great decision. I love being able to text message people, it's easy to use. I love the notification as well, when you have a message an envelope appears, if you have voice mail, there's a v on it, if text,a t, and if picture mail, you see a p. It's sooooo cool.
9 Great phone
Samsung A680 is easily the best phone in a long line of Samsung
phones I've owned over the years.

Pros:

+ Extremely useful form factor: the phone is small enough to be
carried discreetly all day long, yet large enough to offer
a natural fit.

+ Great battery life: The battery gets a bit hot after 40 mins
or so of talking or web browsing, but other than that it allows
for a comfortable week of standby/short-to-medium conversations
time before charges.

+ Fully customizable keypad in the middle: This is what Samsung
calls "launchpad", it took me full 3 seconds to realize that
the keys, finally, can be assigned more logical choices.

+ Integrated voice-dial: I am on a fence on this, the built-in
speech recognition does not recognise anything except "pizza",
however, built- in digit recognition recognizes numbers easily,
often from the first take.

+ Improved address book: Ability to group entries by
functionality (i.e. family vs clients) and assign each a ringer
is great. There are other ways to sort and filter the address
book which makes it very useful.

Cons:

- My only complain has to do the the external screen (2nd lcd)
I liked to use the old phone as a watch and a call screening
tool. This particular phone does not allow this at all, the
external screen goes blank after about 8 seconds.

In fact the screen turns into a mirror. I would gladly trade
the mirror back to what it was before, a small watch and
message indicator.

---

Photo and video:

It is possible to take pictures (640x480) or 15 sec video
clips with this phone. The quality of stills is simply awful,
everything is blurred and looks like picture was taken
underwater. I presume there could be situations when
taking pictures with this phone could be very useful
(in a car accident scene for example) other than that
don't count on it being a digital camera.

MP3's, ringers and downloads:

The phone does not support MP3's, but the process of
converting them into a file that the phone would recognize
is very simple: MP3->30 sec mono WAV->qcp

I've used one of those free services to upload newly
created MP3 ringer to the phone and everything
worked very well.

Same goes for the images and screensavers,
it is very easy to upload them to the phone.
Keep in mind that the screen is only 128x160, supports
only 16 bit colors, crop your pictures accordingly,
and you will get good results.
10 Sprint PSC A680 phone
This phone is terrible when it comes to the AUDIO !!!

I don't recommend this to anyone! I will be going back to NEXTEL
11 GREAT
This is great.. It works in my office building and my other phone didn't,so I consider it to be the best phone ever..I am so glad!! Everyone should buy this phone..It has great options and it also takes great pics that you can actually see..
12 Very Very Good!!!!
This is a great phone. Only major concerns are that the ringer is not as loud as intended however all my calls so far have been crystal clear as sprint advertises. The reception on average is 3 bars. In hard rock buildings I get 1 bar or I am roaming (although my plan covers roaming charges). I did notice that the phone gets hot if you talk for more than an hour or so. As for some comments about the light being on during charging.... THATS BECAUSE YOUR USING THE TRAVEL CHARGER! you need to buy the desktop charger which is EXCELLENT! takes like 10-20 min to fully charge an almost dead battery. So invest your money into this phone it will be worth it.
13 very happy with this phone
very concerned with call quality not internet thats why we returned the 2 sanyo pm8200's after 2 weeks, their sound quality was awful when using as a regular phone. had 2 samsung's before and the new ones are excellent also..have only had these 2 for 5 days but seems very good. was very sad to return the sanyos, i really liked it, but just couldnt live with it..there was another samsung we were considering that had no camera. the sound quality on it was amazing. not sure of the model, even better that the 680's. but we caved in to the trick features..all the trick features in the world arn't worth it if you have to keep asking the other caller to repeat themselves.lifes frustrating enough without having to feel like your deaf too.
14 Good phone if you don't mind it getting really hot
I'm leaving my previous review below, but I decided to add to it. I didn't end up switching phones, I stayed with this one. Well, actually, its not the same one I got at first... if you get this phone, don't drop it in soup..its no good for it. :)

I got a headset for the car, for home, etc, so it works out alright now. Still gets hot, but its a great phone as far as features go. If you get it, just pick up a headset along with it. I suggest the Jabra Ear Wave Boom. It works great, especially with the voice command features of the phone.

Old review below..

I have had this phone for ten days, and was incredibly satisfied with its features. It has great Voice Dialing capabilities, and great pictures and video. However, after talking on it for only 10 or so min, the phone gets very hot. I had it replaced, thinking that it was defective, but the new one gets just as hot. I spoke with the people at the Sprint store again and they told me that since its a small phone it is just going to get this hot. It gets to the point that it is so hot I can't even talk on the phone anymore. And not even after a long call!!

If the phone didn't overheat like this, it would be a fantastic phone. So if you don't mind your face burning off form a short phone call, get the phone. If you do, go with something else. I'm going to exchange it for the Sanyo PM-8200 and see if this one is any better. I do hope so.
15 Many functions, but not functional
I decided to upgrade my sprint phone to the Samsung VM-A680. I liked the size and all of the functions. However, within the week of owning it, I noted some issues. First off, it was SLOW to access the web. Not only was it slow, but most of the time it said it could not access and asked me to try again. It would do this 4/5ths of the time.
In addition, the phone's reception isn't what it should be. Granted the phone would constantly indicate 3-4 bars. It was technically getting good reception. However, I would hear a good deal of static and "blips" on a phone call, and my friend said I sounded like I was talking under water.
After 1 week of owning this phone, I took it back to the store and got the Toshiba VM4050 instead. I hope this phone is better!! But so far the Toshiba accesses the web a lot quicker.... in fact is a lot quicker to perform most functions, like exiting the web, and setting up the camera. And my friend said I sounded better on the phone. Perhaps in a week I'll write a review for the Toshiba.
Good luck!
16 Best Offered, but not Perfect.
I've had this phone for about three weeks after trying comparable Sanyo and LG phones from both Sprint and Verizon. I love it and am keeping this model (the Samsung slide phone is not available at this time), I do think the cons, some noted in other reviews, are notable enough to deduce a star.

+++++Pros:
Raised button keypad- unlike all new samsungs the buttons are raised, not flush, so it is much easier to dial without looking, trust me this was the breaking point on one Sanyo.

Camera Flash and Zoom - These features alone trump the LG models. There's only digital zoom, it is a phone afterall, it is up to 10x and the pic quality is suprisingly good. You can take pics or movies of yourself easily with the phone closed using the CallerID/Clock/Mirror screen.

Reception/Sound Quality- Despite all sales reps' advice this phone has reception quality as good as the Sanyo in notoriously dead places, and callers have mentioned how clearly they can hear me (now).

Sprint PCS Vision vs. Get It Now - Verizon customers seem to be in a cult trying to get you to join so they can call you for free. Ok sometimes they have better service but for an extra $5 a month you can roam on any network so you're set there (believe me I live in the middle of nowhere; this phone works). Verizon Wireless' website is frequently in need of updating, and their Get it Now service is much more difficult and expensive than PCS Vision. Downloading ringers, games, screensavers, everything is easier and more affordable with PCS Vision.

Ringer - I find it plenty loud enough, there's the light and vibration as backups, or those straps so popular in Japan that light up also work now with Sprint and this phone. The sound is decent enough that you can download a song (or make your own with xingtone) and recognize it easily, if not necessarily appreciate the sound quality for a phone ringer, its great.

Mirror - this is actually really brilliant for checking your eyes, teeth or lips for anything, one at a time.

-----Cons:
Lens Placement- The camera/video lens is very close to the hinge and I frequently find myself smudging it or getting my finger or phone strap in the shot.

Phone Book- Very poor navigation, searching. most cons discussed in other reviews, but really it is difficult to work with in general. Every entry counts toward the 300 max, so a contact's cell, work, home and email are 4. The speed dial entry is for only the one number you assign for a particular person, you can't easily access the entire entry from the speed dial number.

Antenna - Bends easily, beware if you do need to pull it out.

Display - Although it is nice to have 2 crisp color screens and a mirror, I miss being able to read in well lit areas without needing the phone active. You can't just glance over for the time, you have to push a button and let everything light up.

17 I love the phone
I just bought this phone. I think it's got really cool features. without a leather cover it can fit into your pocket easily. The camera takes good pictures for a phone!

After you hang up the phone the outside screen turns into a mirror ...kinda cool..useless but cute

Navigation is rather easy after you get used to it. All the buttons are labeled...rather then symbols.

You can even take a self portait ...while the phone is closed.

I was not all that familar with the downloadable stuff they have but it seems that's additional fees just to make sure you know.

Can hold I think about 200 or 300 numbers (looked at soo many) and you can set the entry number as a speed dial which I love.
Or just dial the lasts 4 digits of a number.
Your phone book lists, entry#, Work, mobile , pager, fax, no label, speed dial (set to only one of the numbers), email, url, group, default ringer, birthday, and an image if you choose to have one.
Also has cool voice activated features. I programed the phone with my dads number. then using this feature I say dad and knows to dial him. unlike the old phones where you must program your voice. it's a smart phone.

there are ok ringers. nothing to great..but again it's only a phone.

Video and camara takes decent pics...and has fun frames that are fun to play with.

Over all I am happy with my purchase.

18 A Great Phone for Sprint
I have had 3 sprint phones prior to this Samsung (both Sanyos) and this phone takes the cake. Unlike my two sanyos, the samsung has a quality earpiece that lets me understand the person I'm talking to. It is extremely small and compact, yet it feels solidly built. Everything fits into place. I like the buttons on the side for camera and volume control. The keys arent flush with the phone so dialing is easier. The backlights are also really bright. The key pad in the middle can be customized to basically any setting you want. Reception is good too. The pictures are quite good for a cell phone, not digital camera good, but good all the same; very viewable on the computer compared to my old Sanyo 8100. I havent tested the video out all that often, its just a novelity after all.

There are some cons to this phone but nothing major. The phone book is a little weird. They say "300 person phone book" but its actually only a 300 entry phone book, each cell, home, email, work, web address counts as one entry. Not a big deal. I dont really understand the concept of the external LCD being a mirror, its too small to even use and you cant prevent it from turning off completely...the screen is also a tad small because of the size but it is very viewable, i havent had a problem yet. antenna is cheap but thats characteristic of all samsungs. battery life could be a little better but thats also because i use vision a lot. You get good use if vision isnt used that often. Ringers are loud but not as loud as the should be with 8 levels because the rings come from the earpiece which is muffled when the phone is closed, that doesnt make sense to me.

the voice dial on this is is good. digit dial, name dial, status all helpful if you need. I dont really understand the point of being able to hear your number but its a nifty feature. The camera is good because you can zoom up to 10x when using ALL three resolutions. Fun frames are kinda stupid because you have to take the picture inside the given space, its kinda hard... The brower is good, faster than the sanyo 8100 and 5300. Speed dial is great, if you remember the number you put in for a person you can dial that number say 57 and it will dial your home, if thats where your home entry is. However, you can only program one speed dial per person. You cant have Brother Home, Brother Cell, Brother Work. It takes the first entry and puts it as speed dial...

All in all this a great phone, works perfect. I am going to keep this phone. I give it a 8/10

19 Very cool phone!
1 - 10. 10 being the best.

Design: 10 The phone is drop dead sexy. The buttons are laid out well, and have a nice feel to them. Much better than the current Sanyo with the flush keys. the mirror external screen is cool, but rather useless. Fits very well into the 5th pocket on my jeans.

Reception: 9 I live in an area with saturated coverage so reception is fine. When I leave the city and go into a fringe area the phone finds a signal and holds it well.

Screen: 7 Beautiful, sharp colour screen with 65k colours. Could be bigger, but since the phone is so small. Can't have everything I guess.

Earpiece: 9 As usual Samsung delivers on sound quality.

On board ringers: 7 I have never been a fan of Samsungs ringtones, but these are okay. A couple of nice business sounding tones which I prefer.

Camera: 8 Not bad at all for a camera phone. I still think the a600 takes better pics.

Video: 6 This is odd because the video seems to jerk alot when a video is taken in low light, but seems much smoother when the lighting level is up. *shrug* It's a novelty. Very cool that you can use the videos as a screensaver or picture ID.

User Interface: 9 It's hard to beat the simple, well laid out UI of the Samsungs.

Overall: 8 I can't say for sure how long I will be keeping this phone, but I suspect it could be for awhile. It's gorgeous, and it does everything well with little fuss.

20 This is the best phone ever
I just got this phone and I'm really impressed with the quality. It feels extremely well-built and not to mention it's beautiful design. I love everything about it so far. This phone is such an eye candy. I have people coming up to me and asking me what kinda phone this is. When I tell them that it has video, people go nuts. They can't believe all these features are packed into one tiny sleek silver phone. I love how the outside LCD is color and it can be used as a photo caller ID. Or you can use it to take pictures of yourself if you enjoy doing that sort of stuff. It also has voice dialing which is helpful when driving. Overall, this phone is the best on the market in my opinion. Everyone go get it! You won't regret it.
21 My Top Pick of Sprint's Three Video Phones
You know a design is elegant when it makes what had seemed sleek or unnoticable last year look ugly and clunky now. I'm upgrading from Samsung's A460, and even their old little wrist strap looks dingy and poor compared to the new wrist strap, much less the phone itself.

I've had the unfortunate luck to have used all three of Sprint's new video phones, and this is the one I'll be keeping. The Toshiba VM4050 is the most powerful and has the best picture quality, but it's also very big, and this one's camera isn't far behind. It takes pictures in a tenth of a second or so, which is technically slower than the Toshiba, but is still fast enough to satisfy me (unlike the Sanyo VM4500, which takes multiple seconds, like cheap handheld digital cameras do).

The Samsung only has 2MB of memory for downloaded games and ringers, compared to Toshiba's 4.5 or 5, yet says it can hold 40 of the highest quality pictures. I'm not sure if that means it just has isolated memory for the camera while the Toshiba's is all lumped together or what, but it's enough for me.

This Samsung is TINY. So small it's almost a con; it gets lost in my hand. It doesn't have a lot of buttons, but all four of the directional buttons can be linked to any of its functions. Due to the small size, the screen is also kind of small, but it works just fine, and all the text is large enough to read.

The side buttons' placement seem awkward at first, but are actually quite comfortable.

The phonebook is the retarded stepchild of the other brands' options: it's essentially the exact same as the A460's phonebook, except in color, and with an extra slot for web address and e-mail. The order you put your numbers in is the order they get registered with speed dial, you can't register multiple cell phones or work phones with one name, you can't change the type of phone (work, home, mobile) a number is registered as without deleting it and reentering, the search feature lags. The Toshiba can do all of that, and its search is instant.

Call quality is excellent, reception is wonderful, even in solid concrete buildings where my A460 never had reception, it fits anywhere, and I am extremely happy with it. I've listed a lot of problems, but they're all minor. Every single complaint I've listed is an improvement on the A460, and aren't problems for me, I just feel the need to point out everything anyone might object to.

Also, it doesn't have speakerphone. I don't know why you would want speakerphone, I can't imagine every using speakerphone on a cellular phone, I like the phone being the cheapest and smallest video phone without it. Whatever.

22 Pros and Cons, a thorough review
Lucky you for finding this review because before I buy new phones that cost as much as this one I try my best to do research on them, but there's not much out there at this time on this phone....on to the review!

PROS:

Extremely small sized (smallest camera phone out there I've seen)

Sleek design, no extra buttons on the sides and the body is quite thin; good for guys pockets

Multiple phone books

Well-lit buttons

Quick-access programmable thumbpad (calendar, settings, messaging etc.)

Both inside and outside screens turn off quickly into call, saving battery life.

Easy to read screens; bright

Flash Camera/Takes videos (15-sec max, pretty low quality but fun)

CONS:

Ringer doesn't seem to be all that loud even with 8 volume settings

Doesn't offer 'vibrate then ring' ringer choice

Antenna seems cheap, but this is characteristic of all Samsungs.

Software is slow, i.e. searching for a phone book entry by entering in the first letter is delayed

Outside lcd screen has a number of clock settings, but only one is digital and this is the only setting that shows the reception the phone is getting and the battery life. Unfortunately this setting looks childish as the colors and font make the phone look like a toy.

Flash is extremely weak, nearly useless

ANNOYING-when charging, outside lcd screen stays lit. this is terrible when sleeping near your phone as i'm sure 95% of people do.

Headset hole is well placed on the top of the unit, but is covered by a small, cheap-feeling hubcap-like door that will likely break off and/or scratch the paint

CONCLUSIONS

As many cons as I have just listed, this is an amazing phone. Prior to this I have had two Sanyo models (A 5150 then three 8100's) and this phone just feels more solid than them. It has a nice heavy-feel to it and seems to contain less plastic than some cheaper phones out there, yet the total weight is quite low. I cannot speak for the battery life as of yet because the phone is new: a time when all batteries perform well - time will tell how good the battery really is.

All in all I strongly reccommend the phone based on three features: 1)Best 'bar' reception of any Sprint phone I've had, 2)EXTREMELY small size for its features and 3)it is really the best phone Sprint has to offer.
