The SD Card is a highly secure stamp-sized flash memory card. Jointly developed by Matsushita Electronic (best known for its Panasonic brand name products), SanDisk and Toshiba, the SD Card weighs approximately two grams. The SD Card can be used in a variety of digital products; digital music players, cellular phones, handheld PCs (HPCs), digital cameras, digital video camcorders, smart phones, car navigation systems and electronic books.
SanDisk's 64 MB Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card includes a high-performance, nine-pin SD interface that enables data transfer rates of up to 10 megabytes per second. Its proprietary interface commands facilitate the secure exchange of content between host devices, like PCs and music servers, and the card itself. The security level provided in the SD Memory Card has been designed to comply with current and projected SDMI (Secure Digital Music Initiative) portable device requirements.
1 San Disk Smart Media***
I love San Disk Products! Their smart media cards are the best. They are very reliable and I have never received a faulty card. You can use them over and over... I like the 64MB size, it's perfect to take on trips and holds a nice amount of pictures. The price has really dropped in the last six months. I just purchased my fourth card. If your looking for smart media, stick with the brands you know and trust.
2 Durability for sure
I dropped my PDA and the MMC card popped out. Realized it was gone hours later, went back, found it. It had been run over by a truck or forklift, judging from the scratches. Popped it back in, it worked fine. I'd call that durable, wouldn't you?
3 SD Card and Palm OS 4
First off, this card is great. Its small, sturdy, and delivers the space it said it would.
Second, the price is excellent.
Third, the nature of these cards is *much* slower than your handheld.
My motivations were to expand my Palm 505 and be able to hold plenty of documents and web data on my Palm. The problem I had was the Palm didn't want to use all that space. The Palm OS VFS works rather like a fair hack. I had to find software (MSMount and a new browser LauncherX -- the latter is a shareware product) to actually mount the apps and data on the remote drive as well as Filez which allows you to perform file system operations on the card.
After all this, my 505 works great with all the extra space.
4 NOT COMPATABLE with Toshiba e310!
I just got off the line with Toshiba. Their Pocket PC's are NOT compatable with Sandisk SD cards. They work for a while, then die. I bought three at once and two are toast now. Toshiba knows about this and has yet to post a warning or contact owners of their otherwise excellent Pocket PC's. BEWARE!
5 Incompatible with the Zaurus
This card simply does not work with the Sharp Zaurus. Sharp has released an update to the ROM which improves the compability (they don't actually say it fixes the problem); but, in order to install ROM updates, you need a CompactFlash card. If you've got a CF card, then this SD card might be worth a try; but I wasn't willing to spend [money] for a 16M CF card in order to get a [$$$] SD card to work.
6 Be careful with the card
I bught one of these cards for my PDA and found the locking mechanism did not work. Tried a second and same problem. Finally found a third which worked. However, after using the PDA with the card after several days, the PDA began to mal-function. Finally I had to replace the PDA probably due to the card. With the new PDA I did buy a card but this time directly from the manufacturer of the PDA
7 Great Memory card
i have had this for a month now and it works great. but one stand off when u try to load 20MB of pictures and videos on my palm m130 it takes around 45 seconds. Then 2 second after that. bu tthe thing it i have videos and pictures on my palm with 40MB to spare. then on a palm when u go to all it does not show the card data. then in the Palm OS u have to wait 3 seconds to load up he programs that is on the card. Great for e books and pictures and video. If u are getting this have patence i will help alot.

8 Died after 4 months - Not the best support
I use this card to expand my PocketPC PDA to hold some songs for when I have some downtime.
It worked great for four months, but then mysteriously began to insist it was read-only. After troubleshooting myself for an hour, I called SanDisk support. The hold time was only about five minutes, but the support guy couldn't speak english very well, and, like most support techs now, had no idea what he was talking about, obviously reading a checklist. He told me someone from warranty would contact me - a week later, I called back (after the hours mysteriously changed), and I had to insist to talk to a warranty person. I was given a reference number, and told to use that if they don't contact me within 24 hours. I don't like the system of you having to wait for them to e-mail or call you regarding their defective product - when you already have given them your address and phone number.
I am still waiting them to contact me. I'm not planning to buy another SanDisk product.
9 64 MB SD CARD & THE MAGELLAN MERIDIAN PLATINUM GPS
I ordered a SanDisk SDSDB-64R 64 MB Secure Digital Card for $[money]. I used it in my Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS. I use a Zio SD Card Reader to load up to 64 MB of maps and points of interest data from Magellan's newest street mapping software (as of 5-21-02) USA Streets & Destinations. The SD card works like a charm. On a recent trip I loaded maps (with street level detail) covering an area from Richmond, VA to Boston, MA. That filled the 64MB SD card. If you have a Magellan Meridian Model GPS you DO NOT need to pay Magellan's high price for SD memory. Buy SanDisk, save some money and HAVE FUN GPSing!
10 Concerning Access Speeds
Admittedly, I have a Panasonic SD card but what I have to say is relevant to all SD cards. My card is 16MB and has about 3 or 4MB of photos on it. When I use Photo Suite to access these files on my Palm M505 it takes 15 seconds to list all the photos on them. Also, video playback is slow but watchable. (On an MMC card video playback is VERY slow.) Once they are listed though it only takes a second or two to view the picture. If the other reviewers are correct in what they are saying then indeed it would seem access times are greater for this SD card. Then again one has to take into consideration what PDA they have. My Palm M505 is a toroise compared to pocket PCs.
11 Not a bad card
It is useful for large apps, etc.
However, it does put a drain on your battery so if you were unfortunate to purchase an m505. This will add to your drain.
However, I would still get the card. I use it since I have many apps.
12 Holds the data--slow to retrieve
64mb Sandisk will sure hold the data, but if you need speed to access the data--this will not give it to you. It takes a few seconds to 1)access the card, then 2)to pull up information from the program you desire. Example:I have a informational book on my SD card, a fellow co-worker has the text version. A question is posed to myself and my co-worker.....my co-worker ultimately accessed the information faster than I could with my palm m500
+ 64mb SD card. My technology was then the brunt of many jokes....what could I say? Of note: the launcher III 3rd party application will speed the access of the card up by ~2seconds, but information retrieval is still embarassingly slow.
13 More is better
16 is ok, 32 is better, 64 will let you sleep night, but 128 is where it's at for Secure Digital. If you are buying an SD card for your Palm, trust me and get the biggest you can afford. it's SOO nice to back things up and still have room for a few ebooks.
14 I DID NOT RECIVE IT
I ORDERED SANDISC FOR PALM 505 ON 17.2

I DO NOT LIVE IN THE USA BUT I WAS THERE UNTIL 7.4

15 corrupt memory
The 64 MB MMC card from SanDisk seems to have file problem when I attempt to use this with Intel Personal Audio 3000 (MP3 player). Intel site states that problem is with memory card not with player. I have confirmed problem with all four cards I purchased. Would caution all buyers of this product until specific problem found and corrected.
16 "OK" PRODUCT-SLOW CUSTOMER SERVICE
I sent the 64 MB card to SD for a replacement due to a non operable card after a download using the SD 33-1 card reader. The wait on line for a warranty RA # was so long that I sent the defective card to the only address listed on the packaging. After three weeks I finally called and waited for ten minutes; the pleasent tech. rep. indicated that tracking the warranty request would be attempted, but difficult. I'll have to wait a little longer to see how this is resolved. Meanwhile I have purchased several other SD cards that seem to function fine. I guess the lesson learned; be carefull with the data loading via the Securemate card reader-take it easy- follow instruction carefully. Apparantly you can easily erase what must be internal drivers that affect the SD Card operation.
I would charaterize the overall experience as a communicaton problem more than a quality issue.
17 Great for PDAs
I bought this card for use with my new Sharp Zaurus SL-5000D PDA and was able to use it to move files from my PC to my PDA without a hitch. SanDisk makes great products in general; always great quality and easy to use.
18 Endless memory in a little card
Bought the card for my m500 and it's been very reliable. I'm in the medical field and the need for memory is exorbitant, but 64MB is probably more than necessary (32 MB would have sufficed). However, I decided to get one... card than to have to buy another card 3 years from now. Palm makes it difficult to use the card, and programs stored on the card that is accessed from the handheld is very slow to load. You will have to go to the palm.com website to obtain more information from the community boards on how to do this, but to reassure m500 novices, this card can hold a lot of medical books.
19 Once Again, Viking is Less Expensive
Why is Viking always less expensive than SanDisk? I have been closely monitoring the flash pricing for the past month and I haven't found an instance yet that the Viking card is not at least a few dollars less. In some cases they offer a 33% savings in comparison to the SanDisk equivalent product.
According to the dozens of reviews, the cards both seem to operate flawlessly. Since there is no difference in quality (and actually most of the reviews will state that Viking has better service), I took the plunge with a Viking card.
I rated this card 3 stars because of SanDisk's reputation for high quality, but the lack of a competitive price.
20 Hard to find at this time but worth the wait...
Not out en mass yet so it was difficult to obtain one for my PDA (which is also new). Light, clearly a boost to memory space on my PDA, it is something you won't be able to do without if you have large programs that require lots of memory (for instance, I run a few large medically related programs on my PDA which have a huge memory burden). I was worried about backward compatibility since my PDA only recommended SD cards as large as 16 MB but it proved to be of no concern as the device I have recognizes the card and all of its memory space. Of course, expense is a concern but I'm sure that will come down in the near future as well since this media type is proving to become an industry standard. Get one! (unless you can wait for the 128 MB cards to show up).
