SanDisk SDSDB-256-A1O 256 MB Secure Digital Card

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
The SD Card can be used in a variety of digital products; digital music players, cellular phones, handheld PCs (HPCs), digital cameras, digital video camcorders, smart phones, car navigation systems and electronic books.
SanDisk's 256 MB Secure Digital (SD) memory card includes a high-performance, 9-pin SD interface that enables data transfer rates of up to 10 MBps. Its proprietary interface commands facilitate the secure exchange of content between host devices, such as PCs and music servers, and the card itself. The security level provided in the SD memory card has been designed to comply with current and projected SDMI (Secure Digital Music Initiative) portable device requirements.
1 Solid, consistent performance
Interesting to see the other reviews on this product...I'm on my second camera, the first having been an HP, my current one a Konica Minolta Dimage A1. Have a variety of capacities of SanDisk card, including this 256. All have performed over the past four years without a single glitch; have taken probably 3,000 shots or so, all highest resolution on a 5 megapixel camera. So, at least on the Dimage A1, this user has experienced no compatibility problems, and only high performance.
2 Became unreadable
One minute it worked, the next it didn't . . . same thing happened to a friend of mine's. Both cards were under a year old. Neither my camera, multi-card reader or my computer would recognize it. Fortunately, I'd copied the all photos on it to my computer just before it died!
3 Useless Piece of GARBAGE
Oh, How I WISH I read the reviews here before buying this. I guess I'm one of the "lucky" ones though - The card was useless
right off the bat - I didn't loose any pictures or data. I got a "Protected Card" message in my HP digital camera which made the card useless and a "Card Error" message in my HP printer. Returned the card. Second card, exact same problem. Returning it too. The eBay seller is refunding my purchase price only - I'm out 15.00 in postage & "Handling" - He also claims that the 1st card I sent back is working "perfectly" (HA!) and that my camera must not be "compatable" with SanDisk (Rubbish!). My camera CAME WITH a 32mb SanDisk card that works great. I bought a SimpleTech 256MB card from Amazon and it works beautifully in both my camera and printer.
My advise: RUN AWAY! Buy ANYTHING ELSE but a SanDisk 256MB card made in China and if you're a gambling type and decide to buy a SanDisk after reading all these horror stories, for the Love of God,DON'T buy it on eBay!
4 Died after little use
I bought one of these to use in my digital camera because I have another card by SanDisk and that one has worked just fine for years. This one died after about 50 pictures. Now I have to go through all the hassle of getting a replacement and not know if that one will last or not. Very disappointed. My original card was made in Taiwan, this new, bad one was made in China.
5 2 died on me taking with it dozens of pictures I took
I already owned two of these. First one died destroying all the pictures that were on it. The store replaced it for free. Then the replacement one died. Wish i just asked for my money back and have gotten panasonic sd, or even lexar. SanDisk is a terrible company, no joke. How hard is it to make these things work?
6 Don't buy this product!!!!
I just lost a bunch of photos on this card from our trip to Cambodia and Vietnam. I also have a 256 from Lexar and Panasonic. No problems with those. The photos were still on the SanDisk card when we returned home. I put it in the card reader and nothing came up. I tried again two days later, and got some puzzling information; put it back into the camera (Pentax Optio 550) and got a "card not formatted" message. Buy cheap, get cheap. WARNING - DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT. Unfortunately I couldn't give it zero or negative stars.
7 It didn't worked
I bought this card and i had to format it every time i wanted to use it on my camera, i tested it in 5 different cameras, HP, Nikkon, Canon, in all ot them i had to erase my pictures when i turn on the camera.
8 Great, but bigger is better
No, as amazon states your not saving $100 on this item, the price listed is a normal price for this size card. I bought this card only 1 year ago, and at that time it was twice as much money as it is now, therefore these memory cards get cheaper and cheaper, So if your not in a rush I would reccomend waiting a little longer, in any case you should always buy the largest card you can afford, as for this card itself it is extremely reliable and quality made, it has not once failed me, I use it mainly in my digital camera however I have used it in a cell phone, to tranfer pics taken with the cell to the computer. Great value, great price, great quality as Sandisk always is.
9 How many pictures will it store?
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The SanDisk SDSDB-256-A1O 256MB Secure Digital Card, like most 256MB cards, will store on average 284 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 213 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 128 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 102 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 80 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.
10 SD cards becoming more prevalent
I purchased the 256MB SD card as a conduit between my PC, a Tablet PC with integrated SD slot, and my Toshiba Pocket PC. The price point of the 256MB capacity is such that it can store plenty of programs, documents, photos. The SD medium is definitely on the way to being the most convienient storage technology. With digital cameras and smart cell phones also supporting the postage-stamp-size devices, it isn't long until these are everywhere. All Sandisk products are of great quality, I have had no problems with this unit and would recommend it to anyone - and the larger capacities will be just as affordable as time goes on.
11 So far, so good
I read the other reviews about this card--mine was made in China too but I haven't had any problems with it so far.
I use it in my Canon Optura 20 camcorder, and it can hold around 270 pics in the "super fine" mode. (...) I think I got an excellent deal on this card.
12 where is the rebate?!?!!
The rebate mentioned is not posted on the page. Please post!
13 Memory card for my Sharp V801SH phone
Works very well with the 1 megapixel Sharp V801SH phone. Over one month and no problems or glitches. Just purchased another one for my other phone.
14 Works great for me
This is one of the cheaper SD cards I had seen. I have had this card for about two years and it has never given me a problem to this day. I recommend this product
15 The new floppy disk
I have two of these cards. One for my PDA and a 128MB one for my camera. They work as advertised and the transfer rate seems decent.
16 Excellent Card
I bought this card for my KODAK CX6330 3.1MP digital camera. On this camera, at best resolution, I can take 306 pictures and/or 16 minutes of video. After a lot of use, it hasn't failed or gave me any problems. In fact, it's at least 3x faster than the internal memory when taking, deleting and viewing/thumbing through pictures. Video taking is very nice and fast as well, no problems there, it looks great when watched on TV with friends/family. Approximate download times through cable provided with my camera are about 3 minutes for 50megs of data. Mine is manufactured in China. I would recommend it for use in digital cameras. I'm considering buying another card of 256 or 512meg for making longer videos and to have even more shots when on vacation.
17 Bad SD cards made in China and/or Taiwan
I am a bit upset. I finaly jumped onboard the GPS passion, got myself a nice 512MB SD card from SANDISK, spent a great deal of money for the Destinator3 product and ther actual Bluetooth GPS receiver etc. I have a brand new IPAQ 1945, so i figured i was in luck.
Well, i downloaded my MAPS onto the SD card (USA5 East Coast 280M in size) and the product basically failed to start. It gave me Map Bit errors found, bad address info etc. I spent several days trying to figure it out, including time spent with the Destinator support folks. I also ran several tests against the SD card itself, which passed. SO, FINALLY I gave up on the product, and spent another 100$ on Mapopolis. Again, i had the same type of problems... Then by accident i come to find out, this indeed was and is some sort of SD card problem. Other people have reported this in the past on: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4383, and other web sites as well.
Apparently a great deal of cards made in China and Taiwan are more or less worthless. Especially they can't handle large chunks of data such as these GPS maps without corrupting them. I switched to a Japanese made card, and now all my apps works again!! Go figure.

But, i am upset. I spent a lot of money on my SANDISK card, and it should never have failed.

I would love to address this issue with SANDISK and other similar vendors. If anyone else has similar bad experiences, could you please post them here, or email me at jorgenchr@hotmail.com ??

I feel strongly that vendors like SANDISK should make this public knowledge and offer free exchange / Money back on these faulty chinese made cards. Maybe giving them a list of people being affected would get them going

18 Great Product
I use this memory card in my 4 megapixel digital camera. I save all the photos on the highest image size, and I still never have to worry about filling up the card, unless I am on an extended vacation. I usually get about 130 photos on this card. I have never had any problems with lost photos, or downloadingto my computer. At $65.00 this product was a bargain.
19 Works Well enough for stills
I have a dimage xg and the card works fine for taking still pics. The continuous setting will take up to 5 or 6 pictures at the highest settings before pausing.

Don't bother with videos at 360x240 and 30 fps--the playback on the lcd is fine, but worthless on my pc. Either you use 160x120 and 30 fps or 360x240 and 15 fps (or both minimal settings). The video at these res/speed are reasonably good for a digital still camera. I wonder if low write speed is the culprit?

20 doesn't work, but send it in for a replacement
the first one i got shipped from amazon didn't work at all.. it sucked. it didn't work in any digital camera i used..

but there's a warranty on it, so you just need to call sandisk.. send it in, and they'll replace it for you.. the one they sent me seems to be a different model or something.. and it works fine..

so if you don't want to have to go through the whole replacement process, get a different card.

21 WORKS IN TREO 600
ANOTHER PEOPLE SAID THAT THE SD 256 SANDISK DOESN'T WORK IN HIS TREO 600. HI IS CRAZY, BECAUSE THIS CARD WORK FINE IN MY TREO 600 AND I DON'T HAVE ONLY ONE SD CARD, I HAVE 3 SANDISK AND MANY OTHER BRANDS. BUY IT!!!
22 Great product
I've used on my DigiCam. It works perfectly. I Don't mind it was made in China, cause I noticed my DigiCam was made in China too. it seems they like each other better...
Actually, look around your house, how many things are not made in China? in my house, the TV, the stereo, the furniture, the carpet, even my Thinkpad was made in China...
23 Quite impressed!
I've got a couple of these non-Ultra Sandisk 256 cards for my iQue and I thought they were fine for maps, but not super fast as I would presume an UltraII card to be. Anyway, I tried it in my DSnap SD camcorder and it worked! It wasn't supposed to work, according to Panasonic which mandates a 10 mbps transfer rate for the camera. Ha! I'm impressed.
24 Stay away from this card!
Even after reading the reviews in this forum I still bought one of these cards because the price was so good. I also thought that the problems were only with Palm products. They are not. I put the card into my RCA Lyra MP3 player, loaded songs onto the card, started playing one of those songs and the player shut down after about 40 seconds. After trying several songs and having the same result, I played songs from the internal memory and all worked fine. I tried this with many different songs and anytime I play a song that is stored on the card, the player just shuts itself off.

BTW, this card was made in China.

No matter how good the price is, heed the warnings in these reveiws and don't buy this card.

25 Does not work, corrupts all files
I have not been able to get this product to work in my Treo 600. It corrupts all MP3 and XLS files so they are not usable. Sandisk is replacing the defective product so will have to see if the next one is better.
26 It works, it holds data, what more could you ask for?
I got this card for my pocketpc, so that I could hold more mp3s and move some stuff off the crammed main memory of my pocketpc.

It works, it holds data, what more could you ask for?

It is also fast when using a USB 2.0 card reader.

27 Great solution!
Great price, quick access, and very reliable. Using with a Palm Tungsten to hold photos and MP3s. I bought a seperate card reader for use with the CPU as it transfers faster than camera or PDA.
28 Works fine
I have this card in my Tungsten E. It works well. I play a lot of MP3's from this this card without any problems and I store seven large reference books on the card that open up very fast. If your pda opens these files slowly, it may be your pda or the operating system. Works fine for me.
29 Crash and Burn
I should have known based on the various rants about this card in various forums. After working well in my Dell Axim for several months, tonight the card became corrupted and cannot be formatted. (I lost several pictures I just downloaded from my camera.)

Buy at your own risk. If it works great, fine. If it doesn't, you have been warned (like I was before I purchased this card).

30 Works great in my Rio MP3 player
I plugged it in, opened the Rio software (Rio S10 MP3 player), hit "format" on the card and it worked like a champ. The S10 already had a 64 Meg card in it and I can swap back and forth from card to card on the fly with no hesitation from the player.

I couldn't be happier.

31 The one I bought is bad !
I was buying this item in order to use it as an SD card on my new Garmin ique 3600 GPS.
While trying to transfer maps prepared by Palm host "map install" tool, I figured out that once data size exceeds ~110 Mbytes it simply can not be transferred, since there is some timeout.
I thought it is a problem with Garmin map database, but I needed to double check it. So, I simply grouped together 120 Mbytes of mp3 files (each of 6Mbyte). It got hunging out after the 18th file.
So, I can use it as 110 Mbyte card, which I could buy at 50 USD. I have tried to play the mp3 file and after 3 replayes the PDA freezed and I had to reset.
Needless to say that I tried using Lexar's 128 Mbytes SD card that I already bought, and I had no problems replaying the mp3 file.
I also tried writing to it, using the Toshiba SD card reader/writer on my Laptop, and again - not all data was written, though the iQueue software on the iQue3600 accessed the written data (the one I managed to write) and handled it correctly.

Conclusion:
The card I bought mulfunctions on more than one device. At the time being, I am contacting SanDisk support to replace this card. I hope the one I'll get instead is better. If so, I'll try to refine my review.
32 No problems for me.
Reading the previous reviews, one might be led to believe that SanDisk makes shoddy products. My experience has been quite the opposite. My Kodak camera came with a 32 MB SanDisk SD card, and we bought a 128MB SanDisk card to go along with it. Then when prices came down a bit, we went for the SanDisk 256MB. We have had ZERO problems with any of these cards. I use the 128 MB with my PNY card reader to shuttle photos, mp3s, etc, among my 3 computers; no problems whatsoever. I would not hesitate to buy more SD cards from SanDisk.
33 works good for me
I have used this card for my HP photo smart camera. It has served the purpose,i can shoot 250 pictures at good quality. I don't find any problems. It's better to buy a sealed SD card than the open box items. Look for 'Made in China'.
34 Issues, many issues
So I bought the SD 256 for my camera. So, what is that 234Mb limit anyways? But worse, it died on me, luckely after I unloaded the pics. Not readable in any device (camera, PDA, PC). So I had it exchanged. Gues what? Not even 3 month later, it crashed again. This time with about 170 unsaved pics from a friends wedding in Florence, Italy. Unreadable! Unrecoverable! Gone! Needless to say that I become a less happy customer. It seems to be an issue with Taiwan produced cards in the whole range (16-256Mb). The China ones seem okay (yeah, I know China thinks Taiwan is part of China, that's an other discussion, there are different plants)
35 SanDisk 256 MB Secure Digital Card
Arrived in only 3 days!! Works Great in my Zire 71.

John

36 SanDisk still the finest
I have tried 5 brands of Secure Digital chips and it is my opinion that SanDisk makes the best product. I use them in my pocket pc and my digital camera, the chips are reliable and fast. I have had two chips from another manufacturer fail for no apparent reason. I will stick with what I have confidence in, and right now that is SanDisk.
37 Horrible Card
I have had this card for three months and I have had tons of problems. My camera couldn't read the card a few times and I had to reformatt. Now, card can't be read at all from camera or computer. A waste of money!
38 works like it should
I have not experienced any of the problems that other reviewers have discussed. I am using it with a Dell Axim and with my Toshiba Centrino Laptop.
39 Sorely disappointed
Having a good experience with my Palm, I thought this item would work great on my Pocket PC--well it did, up until I tried to get some data off it one morning. It was all gone: everything I thought would be safely backed up on the card. I was wrong. True, the Pocket PC is not, even in its latest incarnation as simple or as non-PC-like as the Palm--in fact there are _disk utilities_ that are available to help you do PC-like things to your disks. Unfortunately, non of them worked for me in this case.
40 Not thrilled with this item
I bought this item for my Kyocera 7135 palm phone. Images don't fully load at all or if they do, it takes forever to happen. At first I thought it was just me and when I accidently reset the phone and installed all the images to my internal memory and it worked great! I transferred it to the card and it was back to being slow and now fully loading. I"m looking into another card now.
41 Works in Minolta Dimage just fine...
I have had no problems with this card in my Minolta Dimage. Great pictures, great MPEG movies, great transfer rate. However, many other people have had issues with this card, expecially on Pocket PC devices, so I give it only four stars...
42 Not working with my Axim
It worked fine only a few days and then started to give me the error code 20. Now it can be read/written only ~45MB instead. Well, take your risk if you want to.
43 Fails with Dell Axim 5 - loses files
Bought the 256mb SD for my Dell Axim 5. Shows "Total storage card memory 241.13MB" which is a bit strange, but the real problem is files disappear on it. I can't rely on it to store data, which is pretty much the point.
44 So far so good.
I've had this product for a couple of weeks now. It's done well, used it on vacation in Florida and took loads of pictures. I'm yet to encounter its capacity, I currently have almost 200 shots at my medium setting on my digital camera (including two short videos). I believe I have a lot more room left.

The only problem I've encountered is twice when I've hooked it up to the computer, I've gotten the "file error" message. Especially when I delete some and not all of the images on the memory. Turning it off, disconnecting it, hooking it up and turning it back on eventually corrected the problem, whatever it was.

So I recommend it, because so far I have no horror stories to tell :D

45 ....Frustrated....
Perhaps I received a defective SanDisk 256mb SD Card, but it operated very very slow with both my Viewsonic V35 and my laptop. It took 30 min to copy over a 16mb file. I've heard reports that it's read/write speed is supposed to be near 500kb/sec but the disk I got was barely pulling 10kb/sec, if even that. I plan on returning it and trying out a Panasonic 10mb/sec.
46 SanDisk & Dell Axim - It's all good
I have been using my SanDisk 256mb card with my Dell Axim for about five months now with no problems. In addition to use with the Axim, I also bought a Sandisk 6-in-1 USB 2.0 Reader. The reader works great with the SD Card as well as some compactflash cards. The SanDisk SD Card has provided plenty of space and great transfer times. I use it for applications, MP3s, graphics, etc.
47 Avoid this digital card!
We own a Kodak DX4430. Installed this card and went on vacation. It was our first anniversary. Half way through our vacation, we are taking pictures. Turned the camera off and then back on again later only to see a message on the LCD screen, disk needs formatting. Well, we lost all the pictures that we took. Kodak says that 3rd party cards do that for absolutely no reason. They may work for a time, then stop working and then work again. Do not risk losing pictures like we did if you own a Kodak camera!! We love the camera, just [not]this disk ...
48 Doesn't work in Dell Axim or in my Kodak Digital Camera
There is a reason why the Sandisk 256 mb card is the cheapest, it has problems. I first purchased it to use in my Dell Axim (Pocket PC). I kept losing the data and having to reformat the card. It seems to have the most problems storing or deleting large files (MP3s, video, ebooks, etc.).

I recently bought a new Kodak Digital Camera (DX6340). It uses SD, so thinking maybe the problem with the Sandisk was related to my Axim, I started to use it in my camera. And the same problem happened the first time I used it. I even tried the fancy software to format the card and it doesn't help either.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I have learned a difficult lesson, do your homework before purchasing. I researched my digital camera (btw, which I love.... highly recommend the DX6340) and my Pocket PC (ditto on the Axim), I didn't think about memory. I replaced the Sandisk with a Lexar 256 mb SD and it works great in the digital camera and PocketPC. Do some research in user forums on line and you will see that the Sandisk has problems in many devices, especially in PocketPC devices (Ipaq, Toshiba, Palm, Dell Axim, etc.) Based on this, SanDisk should recall this memory and fix the problem.

49 An exelent card, but does not come formatted.
I use the one of this size and brand card that was included with my SanDisk cruzer reader. The card is extremely fast, and is extremely reliable. I also noticed that the SanDisk Cruzer worked a lot faster than my digital camera, so it's a good buy for a few extra bucks if you want to get that.

There are two reasons many people have had trouble with Sandisk SD cards.

First, the obvious, like any storage device, it must be formatted before use.

The reason SanDisk does not format the card in the factory, is likely due to the fact that it takes longer to manufacture that way. Second is that some items, such as some digital cameras, must reformat cards. There are also the issues of FAT16, FAT32, or VFAT (FAT32 with long filenames, etc.) Most PDAs would want VFAT, but many digital cameras can't handle it, and some even require the older DOS FAT16 format, as it is much easier to handle with small processors.

Additionally the SD card standard is designed that some devices will accept a maximum size, or only a certain size. Many earlier Palm PDAs only supported 64MB, but most newer ones support more.

50 Wish I bought two
I have a Viewsonic V35 pocket pc bought from Amazon.com, and bought the SanDisk 256MB SD card. They work great together, but there is really only 241 MB of space available for data. I got the card on sale at Amazon.com and wish I had bought two, because the price has gone up. If I could get another for that price I would. Hint hint Amazon.com I use it to hold about 5 hours of my music on my pocket pc. hope they come out with a 512 MB or a 1 GB card soon at a reasonable price so I can store all the music I want plus photos etc on one card.
51 Satisfied, dis-satisfied, satisfied again
I began using my card in my digital camera & it worked wonderful. I also used it in my PDA, and again it worked great.

However, about 1 & 1/2 mos after purchase, I went to copy/paste files onto the card in my card reader, and while all seemed to go well it didn't. The card had a fatal crash. My pda wouldn't recognize it, the camera wouldn't either, nothing would.

So, I contacted amazon.com and discovered once the product is in the buyer's hands - they're out of the loop. So, I contacted SanDisk, and they were most helpful. I had to send my card in, but I got a new one in return. Yes, it cost me postage, but I still haven't paid what I would have paid in the stores. Well not exactly, as I purchased another card (from a local retailer) until my replacement card arrived.

The new one works fine so far... will see how it is a few months from now. But I learned an important lesson - buy on the net & something goes wrong... you get to deal with the manufacturer. BUT, if you buy from various local retailers (or their web sites) & something goes wrong - they replace it then & there, AND they deal with the manufacturer.

52 Problems using this card with IPAQ 1910
Bought this for my new IPAQ 1910 Pocket PC- it seemed to work OK, until I tried copying/moving moderately large files (20mb). Then strange things started happening (system hangs & crashes, SD card reporting variable free space, unable to write to card, etc), and eventually the PDA would crash fully & require a full hard reset (deleting all user data and requiring a full system restore).

Web searches indicate many people have had problems with their PDAs after installing this card. I went to the Sandisk site, but found no useful info, and they have not responded to my requests for info regarding warantee return or replacement. I have experienced this sort of failure 3 times in the past six weeks.)

I would avoid Sandisk, and try another brand of SD Flash- I'm shopping for another (non-Sandisk) card, right now...

53 Great card and excellent value
I have a Kodak DX4330 and at
Best quality 3.1MP, this gives me 203 pictures,
Better quality gives me 366 pictures
Good quality gives me 740 pictures

Other cameras due to compression and quality variations will be different.

Just in case the other readers don't know, the MMC and SD card are the same format. The only difference is two things. The SD card is a little thicker (still seems to fit everywhere an MMC card does) and the SD card has an extra. It has a little slider that allows the user to keep from accidentally deleting or changing items on a card. This also keeps you from taking pictures on the card if you forget to switch it back. But then most cameras or other devices should remind you of this.

The SD aspect to this MMC card also allows me to ensure the safety of my untransferred pictures as well. If I'm passing around my camera at a family gathering, first I slide the securing switch to the "lock" position to be sure no pictures can be deleted. Then I can be sure no one can accidentally delete my pictures. Unless others are aware of this feature, they would find it difficult to delete them unless they knew about this.

The only tough thing about doing this, is remembering to slide the switch back off before I take new pictures. But then my Kodak camera would remind me to do this anyway, if I was not in Review.

Great card, excellent value.

54 Unfortunately, not a good purchase for me
I just bought a Toshiba e755 from Amazon and expected to use a pair of SanDisk 256MB SD cards but when all parts arrived, the SanDisk cards seem to be nonfunctional in this PDA (even though several reviews of both SD and PDA used both together!)

When I inquired at Toshiba, they didn't confirm or deny that the SanDisk products should or wouldn't work, they merely said to check the manufacturer's website for a compatibilty list.

When I did that and selected SD cards and Toshiba products, no results came up which, while not stating it unequivocally, implies that SanDisk SD media is not compatible with the Toshiba products!

How something with an "SD Logo" on it would end up being incompatible with another product also bearing that same logo is beyond me.

So you may want to think twice before buying this SanDisk SD card if you have a Toshiba e750/755

55 Totally unreliable
I have used this card in my Dell Axim since Feb. First some of the files I had stored on this kept spontaneously disappearing. I then found StorageTools - formatted this card. The file disappearance improved for next couple of weeks.

Now a few times after switching on the Axim, I am asked if I want to format the SD card. I respond No but then find that all files stored on the card have disappeared anyway.

I do not know about alternatives but this card is definitely money down the toilet.

56 Over 200 high quality pictures on my digital camara
This card works as prescribed. I have had no problems with it. Great price, great quality. I love the fact that I can take over 200 pictures with my digital camera without having to change the card or download them to my computer. This works great for vacations, special occasions or really anytime that you might take a lot of pictures without a computer around.
57 Great little memory card...
Works great, and I got it for less than $$ bucks (look for sales!)
It does the job, and currently I switch it between my Exilim digital camera and my HP iPaq 1910. Plenty of room for programs, AND pictures.
59 256MB SD with ipaq 3955 pocket pc
Had to admit I was a bit nervous purchasing this item after reading some of the reviews, but when it came I just plugged it in and started saving programs to it. It takes some time to write the data but it reads really quick and I've had no problems with it. My only complaint is that my pocket pc only recognizes the card as 238.5MB instead of the 256MB. As far as I know this may be my pocket pc and not the memory card at all. But nonetheless that's why it doesn't get the 5th star from me.
60 Works well No problems
I bought this card two weeks ago and have used it several times. I recently filled up the whole card to capacity and had no trouble either recording images or downloading them to my mac. It has worked flawlessly with my Minolta F300. I would recommend it to anyone.
61 Does what it say's on the box
Err...it does what is says on the box! Gives you [an inexpensive] 256mb SD card that has worked perfectly from the moment I took it out of the box.
62 Get a Lexar
If you search around on the Web (e.g., brighthand, pocketpc thoughts...) you'll see that quite a number of users have problems with Sandisk memory cards. They used to be the cheapest, but not any more. For the same price (or even lower), you can get much-better-quality memory cards from Lexar. I highly recommend Lexar for reliability, speed, and lower power consumption.
63 Lots of memory and no problems
This product worked fine for me. I am using it on my BA350 player and I just plugged it in and away it went. No hassles.

I have to say I was a little nervous before receiving the product based on some of the reviews but I think most problems have been product specific.

Unexpected positive: the battery on my player appears to run alot longer when playing music from the this card.

Unexpected negative: transferring is at a rate of about 70KB/s as opposed to the 250-300 KB/s when transferring to the players internal card. I am guessing this is something to do with the BA350 and not the card though.

64 Good but it has very slow writing performance!
I've tried this card and it takes too long time to write a file. I using this card with my palm-T. Many other people facing the same problem. However, read operation take much less time to perform.
65 Ouch, I got burned
I had to download a formatting tool for my pocket PC (dell axim) and every time I wanted new music on the card, I had to reformat it. Once I deleted anything, it was gone from the file system, but still took up the memory. A VERY flawed card. I have heard numerous complaints about this brand of 256MB cards.
66 Works great and a great price too -- Update
This is the second SD card I bought from SanDisk. I love the SD form factor, and they seem to have the best price.

Like others, though, I had some problems at the beginning. For example, my first one worked only in a Palm, but not on a Pocket PC or in a PC card reader.

BUT then I discovered something that solved all of my problems. It seems that right out of the box, the card is not formatted properly. So I downloaded the new File Manager update for my Palm m515 (which corrects an issue with >128MB SD cards), reformatted the card on the Palm, and now the card works flawlessly on all devices! And I believe that there are SD card updates for some Pocket PC devices as well.

Now I'm able to play MP3's from it while also dragging-and-dropping files to and from the card...pretty cool.

Update: So I have 4 cards from SanDisk now, and the newest card failed to work on anything but a Palm device. After a relatively quick conversation with SanDisk technical support, they arranged to replace the card. The whole process took about 2 weeks. Overall, I'm happy with their cards and with their support. Nonetheless, I must take away one star.

67 Piece of junk
Doesn't work well in my Dell Axim X5 or in the Sandisk Cruzer device. I just never know when my data is going to disappear, and the card requires constant reformatting. I bought this card because Dell sells it on their site. However, a quick review of the forums on an Axim-related website reveals that this card has serious problems. I'm buying a Lexar card, which is supposed to be higher quality. The Sandisk is priced lower, but the quality is inferior. Stay away from Sandisk!

Update: The Lexar 256MB SD card is perfect.

68 Would Not Format
I just returned my SanDisk for a replacement. The first one I received had problems formatting and then kept failing with errors when trying to copy content onto it. I hope the next one will be working. Great product if it works. I have a 128MB that works flawlessly.
69 well, good or not depends on your luck
I first got one for my e310. it works flawless. never run into a problem. and then I bought another one for my Dell Axim 5, this time I got tons of issues.
I tried to use the 2nd card in my e310, same thing,it doesn't work all right, keep getting me errors. hell, don't know how they do the quality control..
bottom line:
good price and works good if you get the right one..
70 Worked seemlessly with my iPaq 3835 and Dazzle Reader
It came pre-formatted, put it into my dazzle writer, copied some files to it, put it into my iPaq, no problems at all.
71 "Nice" shipping policy
Pointless system you have there, you can see products but can't ordes as they are available for US only.

72 SD Cards Just Keep Getting Better and Better!
WOW! SD just keeps getting better. I heard the capacity will be 1GB this year and it works in everything from my Palm to my HP printer to my Panasonic camera! And the SDIO stuff they were showing at CES was cool!
73 Wow! SD is the way to go!

74 Poor product quality - worse customer service
You can just read my bottom line, or my entire story below that.

Bottom line - spend your money with a company that has an infrastructure. If Sandisk can't even handle RMA's, how competent are they to manufacture high end flash memory components?

I purchased the card as a last minute Christmas gift ... - way to go Amazon!
Card was supposed to come formatted, wasn't. Wouldn't format in any of the 4 devices I tried it in, then Windows format from a command line said there was a bad sector.

After a week of trading emails with Sandisk (try this, try that, did it all already) they said the RMA dept would contact me....in 5-10 business days. It took 12. Guess that says something about their product quality, doesn't it? 12 Business days just to get an RMA number so I could send them the card back on MY NICKEL. They've had the package for a full week now, no word on whether my new card has even been SHIPPED.

A full month later, and all I can say is I've spent my [$$] rebate (which I have not gotten yet, wonder if I will) on shipping their faulty product back to them. Had I not already sent the rebate in, I probably would've just tried to return the item through Amazon, because I don't blame them...but I would've liked to test their return policy, because experiences like this really make you think about purchasing electronics online. Either way, Sandisk will no longer be a product consideration for me, even if someday I have a wonderful working SD card...the customer service is too bad.

My Viking 256MB CF card rocks, though - also bought through Amazon...with no problems whatsoever with very regular usage.

75 Huge storage for a tiny card!
I purchased this card to use with my Kodak LS 443 digital camera. I was quite impressed that it would hold 203 high quality images or over 16 minutes of video. If you were to purchase this card, buy it at Amazon.com because I saw the very same card at Best Buy for [a bit more].
76 Seamless and versatile
I bought this card for my Rio S50 MP3 player, where it worked like a champ. When I bought my daughter a Kodak digital camera, I popped it out of the Rio and into the camera where it worked just as well. Only problem is now I've got to buy more of them to feed my kids' SD-compatible toys. But at these prices, even that isn't so bad.
77 NOT AVAILABLE IN UK
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO ORDER THIS ITEM TODAY AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT I THOUGHT OF THE MEM CARD WHEN IT TURNED UP.
BUT FOR SOME REASON YOU ALLOW UK CUSTOMERS TO DRIBBLE OVER THE PRODUCT AND THE COMPETITIVE PRICE BUT NOTE:- ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE U.S -- ERR !!
78 Great memory card for Toshiba e310
I use it with my Toshiba e310 pocket pc. I've had it for a month and it works great. I use it to store MP3's and other data.
79 Great product must have for any Pocket PC user.
I just got a Toshiba e310 and although 32MB is a big step up from my old 8MB Handspring I need more. This 256MB SD card is great. I keep all my mp3s and files on here. I've had no problems with it at all. I would be nice if it had a larger capacity like the compact flash cards, but it doesn't put nearly as much strain on my batteries so its worth it. For anyone with a Pocket PC, this is a must have!
