1 Does not work with Dell Axim
Make sure you read the support issues on this card, and preferably call Tech support to see if there are known issues with your pocket PC before you buy this card. I bought this card for my Dell Axim X5 (Pocket PC 2002), and it just did not work, inspite of trying to install and uninstall thrice. Sandisk support site and customer service rep claimed that there are known issues with Dell Axim - the 128 MB memory portion does not work. He claimed that only the wireless portion should work. However, that did not work either in my case inspite of trying everything under the sun. My recommendation - stay away from this if you own a Dell Axim.
2 Good card. Just needs more utils.
I've had this card for a couple of weeks now. I did a lot of review reading before I got it and thought I'd add my 2 cents now. The card installed fine on my iPAQ 2215. Just make sure you go to the Sandisk website and get the right drivers 1st. Don't use the ones on the CD. The only thing I would like to see is some more advanced network tools. Otherwise, no complaints!
3 awsome
this thing is great i have a ipaq 3600 and it works wonders and i have no problems at all i love it i had a linksys WCF12 but it never worked right so i bought this and it was less and way better the built in 128mb is great why would you buy the others when this is the same price and you get 128mb space
4 Not A Bad Product, But Has Some Flaws
I received this memory/wifi card as a wedding gift last year so that I could use it with my Compaq iPAQ 3765. It installed properly on the iPAQ as well as my Toshiba laptop. I have never had a problem connecting to my Linksys WRT54G 802.11g/b router. The installation process itself was pretty straightforward and simple.
Now, I did have a problem installing it onto my new HP iPAQ 2215, which I purchased a week ago. The PocketPC 2002 driver included with the card will not work with Windows Mobile 2003 for PocketPC. SanDisk does have the 2003 drivers on their website, but as someone mentioned, there is no user guide to aid you with the new driver. After trying several times to install the card, I had to perform a hard reset and installed the card before installing anything else and setting up my activesync partnership.
The other thing I do not like about this card as someone mentioned, is that with Windows Mobile 2003, you cannot turn off the wi-fi part of the card and just access the flash memory. This will drain more battery power from my iPAQ than I would like. Hopefully, SanDisk will resolve this issue.
Other than that, this wi-fi card has been working great for me. I actually just used it in New York City and was able to locate several access points at Chelsea Piers on the West Side and access the internet. Overall, a good product in my opinion with a couple of flaws.
5 Doesn't work with older Windows Pocket PC and Windows CE
Well, even though the card without the 128 meg of memory supports the older pocket PC versions (pre-2002), this card doesn't. I have an older HP Jornada 548, and thought I'd get a deal, since the additonal memory is basically "free". Would not install with the supplied drivers, not the driver downloaded from the SanDisk website. Also, wouldn't work with the drivers from the card w/o the memory. Had to return to Amazon.com, and order the LinkSys card...
6 Not useful for PPC 2003
This product is crap. In PPC 2003 there is no utility to turn off the WIFI part of the card so it doesn't just sit there and drain your battery while you are using the memory portion. All the documentation included was for 2002, although there is a driver for 2003 on their website. Still doesn't include control utilites. When I called Sandisk they just said it isn't available for PPC 2003 and it was a feature in PPC 2002. They aren't interested in writing a utility themselves. So it will be useless soon as people upgrade to 2003 or buy a new pocket pc.
7 Sharp Zaurus-SL-5600
Stay away from the SanDisik Connect Plus Wi-Fi adapter. This product was supposed to work flawlessly with the Sharp Zaurus SL-5600, just plug it in they said. Well let me tell you that just isn't the case. Neither the Wi-Fi nor the 128MB of memory show up in the Zaurus System. After performing a cardctl ident it will come up as SanDisk Connect Plus. But, nothing more will work. --Lets hope Sharp or SanDisk will fix the problem (because neither will refund me my money.)
8 Average Product
I purchased and use with HP iPaq h2215. Technical support or guidance in severly lacking, but once I had a computer-savvy person help get it operational, the wi-fi works well. It easily connects to my home network, and connected in a matter of seconds to wi fi network in local coffee shop. I have not had the chance to try out the memory capabilities.
9 Great tool but needs better documentation
With my iPaq 3835 and Compact Flash sleeve I was able to setup the SanDisk card in about 30 minutes. It would have taken much less time if there had been ANY help in the documentation or online, but still, just by hacking around I was able to get up and running on my home wireless network in little time. One note: I use an Airport (by Apple) for my wireless point and the SanDisk picked it up immediately out of the box (even before I got the settings right). I definitely recommend this product - it is sturdy, the storage part of the card works great (nice bonus) and it does NOT stick far out the iPaq at all - just be sure you have some knowledge of wireless networking or a friend that can help you.
10 Another Axim-Sandisk victim
Whoops, I bought this card for my Dell Axim X5 before I had a chance to read these reviews. I was at the store and didn't find the product I intended to buy, so I got this instead. I had trouble with the drivers (I have to have both the CD-supplied drivers and the newer downloaded drivers installed for it to work) but I finally got a connection and finally got the "Wi-Fi Settings" utility to work. The connection is reliable although after installing something else to the Axim I had to re-install the Sandisk drivers. The most annoying problem, however, has been the memory capability of this card. It doesn't work in my card reader, and while the Axim at first saw the 128MB, it then indicated an error and I think it then asked to re-format the card, now it indicates that the card has a capacity of 31MB. The Flash Format utility (from CNetX) can't even see the memory. Maybe the Axim has a problem, but I certainly expect the Sandisk to be readable in a card reader to fulfill its promise as a dual-purpose device. It's going back tomorrow.
11 San Disk works
I have a Netgear wireless router (54g) and was able to hook the SanDisk Wifi (128 mb) in minutes. I have an Ipaq 3950 and used the IP daskboard utility from Hudson Technology. All I did was run the utility first, then entered the program (a mini disk accompanies the SanDisk Wifi) and inserted the CF card into the slot of the expansion pack. All of the necessary addresses were automatically entered (you have to insert the CF card and then remove it to reset the addresses .. I did this once and it now is working all the time.) I have been able to roam the apartment with the Ipaq exactly the way I could with my Notebook. The only reason I did not give the SanDisk 5 stars was that it sticks out a bit much. If you get the CF card, I suggest you also get the IP Dashboard...available at Handango.
12 Avoid this item like the PLAGUE
This item is SUBSTANDARD product. The memory on it cannot be access via readers or via ANY DELL AXIM. Dell blames SanDisk and SanDisk blames Dell. SanDisk will NOT stand behind the unit or replace it. They just promise at some point a driver will be released to fix the problem. Over a month later and still NO driver. Go with someone that test's their product and supports it. AVOID this one.
13 It is an Axim problemn
I use the card in my laptop and it connection is more reliable and stronger signal than my other cards or the crappy built in wifi in my toshiba laptop. I use it in my iPAQ just fine to move files between the laptop and iPAQ. but my wife's Axim X5 it doesn't work just like the other people say. I talked to Dell and SanDisk - finally found a guy at Dell who told me its a X5 issue they are working to fix. he told me the X5 as a first PDA from Dell has had a few SD problems and CF problems and they are fixing the thing. No one else makes anything like this that I have found I think the card is a killer product for me - just not for the Axim.
14 Garbage. Stay Away!
The WiFi component of this cards works but the memory is only sporadically accessable. Neither my Axim or my desktop USB reader can use it reliably. Sometimes the memory is available and at other times I get a message that the card isn't formatted. I have used plenty of CF memory cards before and I have never seen a problem like this. Don't waste your money until Sandisk gets around to fixing this problem.
15 I should have checked here first
I purchased the card from Dell not knowing there was a problem with this card and the Axim. What the other two reviewers have said are true. This card and the Axim do not play well together. I could not format the CF memory, it could not recognize the Access point, and I noticed SanDisk's control panel app ran INCREDIBLY SLOW.
Worst part...I couldn't get their software out of memory to remove their program from the Axim. I had to do a hard reset to remove it, which wiped out everything on the system. If you have a Dell and you're thinking you're going to kill 2 birds with 1 stone...stay away! Unless SanDisk figured out their problem, just say No to this card.
16 well... It works great for me
this card is excellent if you plan to save a slot for your handheld device, since it combines with 128MB memory and Wi Fi antenna. the reception and speed is a lot better than I thought, everything works fine except the memory capacity should have 256 or 512MB
and the size is also a cons for this card....
17 Does not play nice with Dell Axims
If you are planning on using this Sandisk combo WiFi card with your Dell Axim X5, you may want to think twice or at least check out the problems people are having with it at forums.us.dell.com.
While some people are having problems accessing the memory portion of the card (I was able to access the CF memory OK) the majority of forum posters, myself included, have not been able to get the WiFi portion to access their wireless network. Under the same circumstances, my Dell TrueMobile CF WiFi card worked fine.
While Dell and Sandisk appear to be blaming each other for the problems (shades of the Sandisk/Axim SD memory fiasco), and with no definitive solution in sight, I suggest Axim buyers beware.
18 This product is junk!!!! Save yourself a headache
If you own a Dell Axim THIS CARD WILL NOT INSTALL PROPERLY. I returned the card to staples and the I experience the same results with the second card. The card works in my HP notebook. I will not get into much detail with the problem because I do feel like typing a page and I did not resolve the problem. I will be taking this card back to staples in the AM. The problem was that the card would not connect to my 54G dlink router. The card would only register it's mac address with the Axim about 10% of the time. During that 10% my router saw the sandisk because its mac was registered. I even shut off WAP and this did not fix the problem. ... There knowledge base and e-mail support request do not even list the product. I've been working in IT for almost 10 years(desktop, network, programer), have two computer degrees, MCSE+I, CCNA, CCDA and A+. I started setting up wireless networks building to building four years ago and although I have been in management for the past couple of years I should still be able to install a wireless network device????Recommedation if you own an Axim stay away from this thing.
