With Sharp's LC-15L1U-S 15-inch AQUOS TV, you get remarkable flat-panel TV viewing, no strings attached. Billed as "the first battery-operated LCD television in the U.S.," it's a truly digital wireless TV built with a carrying handle so you can move it easily for both hassle-free indoor viewing in various rooms and outdoor viewing under most dry conditions. Under ideal circumstances (see note below), the set offers crystal-clear TV, video, and DVD enjoyment virtually anywhere in and around the home without attached wires or cables of any kind.
The stylish and cord-free LC-15L1US looks good wherever you place it. | The LC-15L1U-S features a sleek, silver design created by the world-class industrial designer Toshiyuki Kita, who created the high-style look of Sharp's entire AQUOS line and whose artwork resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Its sculpted, rounded stereo side speakers and built-in easel stand make it simple to transport the lightweight TV from room to room. A built-in, rechargeable high-capacity lithium-ion battery provides approximately three hours of viewing time, allowing plenty of time to enjoy an entire movie, either indoors or outdoors. The set uses Sharp's SmartLink wireless digital audio/video transmission system, which operates on the 802.11b wireless standard. Just connect the included transmitter to a video source, such as a DVD player, then sit back to watch your favorite movie or TV show in any room of the house. The system transmits digital wireless signals using the 2.4 GHz band high-speed spectrum wireless protocols. The LC-15L1U-S has an Advanced Super View (ASV) panel with Sharp's proprietary Black TFT low-reflection coating so it can be placed anywhere--even near windows, doors, or other light sources--without sacrificing picture quality. The unit also offers 170-degree viewing angles so viewers get a clear picture from anywhere in the room, and its high contrast ratio (500:1) and high brightness (430 cd/m2) ensure clear, vivid pictures with deep blacks and exceptional color clarity. |
The TV measures less than 3 inches deep without its table stand. A special image-inverting feature even lets you flip the image upside-down or mirror it for hanging in an unconventional manner. Together with its wireless A/V center, the set features multiple composite-video and S-video inputs for your DVD player, VCR, or gaming console, an RF antenna input for older VCRs and cable boxes, as well as a cable-ready, built-in 125-channel tuner. An electronic PLL tuner handles over-air reception of TV programming. What's in the Box LC-15L1U-S flat-panel LCD TV, TV battery, docking station, table stand, 2 clamps, 3 fastening screws, a wireless A/V center, wireless center stand, remote control, remote battery, remote holder, a video controller, 2 antenna cables, a connection chart, a user's manual, 2 AC power adapters, a registration card, and a caution sheet. | Both the A/V center and wireless TV have power inputs and audio and video connections for maximum convenience. |
Note: Reception may become bad or impossible under the following conditions: use of the product in a reinforced concrete building such as a condominium building or a house of a metal structure; use of the product near large-scale metallic furniture; use of the product in a crowd of people or close to obstacles such as buildings; and use of the product at locations where magnetic fields, electrostatic, and interference occur due to devices such as Bluetooth, wireless LANs, phones, or microwave ovens, etc., that use the same frequency (2.4 GHz) as the product.
1 Nice concept - I like it, but....
I bought mine from B&H being inspired by positive reviews from this forum. Setup was simple: TV cable hooked-up from my Comcast cable box to the TV wireless box, TV channel set to 3 - and it's working with no cables attached! When my first thrill calmed down I noticed that the picture was not so great - motion artifacts were too obvious, although the distance between the TV set and it's wireless box was just about 6'. I decided that it wasn't a big deal for a small TV set intended to reside in the kitchen or dining room. So, to continue testing I took the working TV and walked towards the dining room. Suddenly, when I moved about 20' from the wireless box, the picture and sound stopped. Now picture frames where changing about every five seconds - like in video-phone. Recalling the following warning from Amazon.com website
"Note: Reception may become bad or impossible under the following conditions: use of the product in a reinforced concrete building such as a condominium building or a house of a metal structure; use of the product near large-scale metallic furniture; use of the product in a crowd of people or close to obstacles such as buildings; and use of the product at locations where magnetic fields, electrostatic, and interference occur due to devices such as Bluetooth, wireless LANs, phones, or microwave ovens, etc., that use the same frequency (2.4 GHz) as the product."
I went down and turned off my 2.4 GHz cordless phone base station that was located in the lower level right under the dining room. The picture got much better and I decided to continue the testing. Turning on the microwave in the kitchen brought the TV set to complete coma. The same happened when I turned on the wireless LAN access point.
So, my judgment is that you should pay close attention to the above warning before buying this TV. If your house has no microwaves, cordless phones, wireless LANs, Bluetooth devices, magnetic fields, electrostatic interferences, and on, and on, and on, then this product is for you :-) Unfortunately, it's not about my house. I had to pay about $35 in shipping costs to find this out. The TV will go back to B&H on Monday - they have a great return policy!
2 If you know how to set VCR time, you know how to set this up
The key concern I have with this TV is the interference with my WiFi network. I'm happy to say, it coexists with my Linksys, vonage and 5.8ghz phone nicely without any slowness. I were able to set this up about 15m without even looking thru the manual. The picture has room to improve but it ain't bad. I have to admit it is quite amazing that you can carry a 15" TV around the house without any cord... I only have time to test the cable about 2 hours (btw, i didn't charge the battery at all, cause i forgot :-), but it lasted till past my bed time) In any case, this might be a bit expensive in the 15" LCD world... but able to carry the unit around in/outside the house with decent picture and I can think of number of other usages when temperature gets warmer... it is in my opinion worth every cents
3 Outstanding performance
We purchased Sharp's wireless tv in the hopes of avoiding running cable to our sun room. I have the say that Sharp's wireless tv has performed well beyond our expectations. Set-up was a snap and it worked great right from the start. We've used it up to 100 ft fromt the wireless source and it has performed perfectly. Two of our friends who saw the tv in use have since purchased one and they are very pleased with its perfromance. I would highly recommend.
4 It was a perfect gift for my husband
I bought it as a birthday gift for my husband. Before I bought it, I did a lot of research. The previous review on Amazon indimidated me. However, other reviews(such as Cnet)were quite positive. It turned out to be a perfect gift for my husband. It was an easy effort for him to set it up, and he was watching Cubs game everywhere with it, on our upper deck, lower deck, and garage. The picture was very clear. We just bought it, so we have not experienced any downside yet. We really liked its feature and performance. I think the other reviewer just had some bad luck. Ours worked very well, and the salesman at Tweeters said theirs worked very well too. So I would like to do this product some justification. If your loved ones or yourself is a big sports fan, and would love to watch games during BBQ, give them or yourself a great treat!
5 Nice idea....
My dad bought one from Sharper Image and he asked me to set it up for him. Well, it didn't work right out of the box so we called up Sharper Image and they said their's didn't work either. It's a pretty decent idea, but I would wait for the next generation. Hopefully quality and price will make nice leaps by then.
