Activision (80329) Spiderman Movie XBX
Spider-Man: The Movie brings your friendly neighborhood web slinger to life with engrossing realism, proving that a superhero game of such complex nature can be achieved with nearly flawless and nonintrusive gameplay. Be it wandering the city's environs in search of villains, or just checking out your surroundings by web-swinging high above them, you truly can do whatever Spider-Man can. It's all here: high-flying aerial battles, the ability to web up and yank your enemies close for pummeling, and the capacity for crawling or web-zipping up, down, and over any surface--and that's just for starters. All in all, this is one involved game that does not fail to live up to the hype.
The game parallels the motion picture's story line, steering you through a progression of challenges that begins with the hunt for Uncle Ben's murderer and ends with a final showdown with the Green Goblin. You begin as Peter Parker dressed in his wrestling costume and must defeat a variety of thugs throughout each level before advancing to the next set of challenges. The game gets progressively tougher as you encounter, in turn, Shocker, the Vulture, Scorpion, and, of course, the Green Goblin.
Visually, Spider-Man is a treat: cityscapes unfold in realistic detail and are enhanced by sunlight shining between buildings; cutscenes offer seamless animation; interiors are painstakingly re-created; and Spider-Man and his enemies are well rendered, moving about the screen in clean fashion. As an added bonus, most characters are voiced by their movie counterparts, and the training mode features the sarcastic wit of Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell. --Larry White
Pros:
- Detailed controls bring Spider-Man to life
- Challenging gameplay enhanced by numerous fight styles
- Stunning visuals at every level
Cons: - Camera angles slow to respond at times
- Some interiors too dark
- Repetitive one-liners
Note: This review refers to the PlayStation2 version of this game.
Spider-Man: The Movie allows fans to play as Spider-Man in several highly detailed 3-D environments inspired by the Columbia Pictures/Marvel Entertainment live-action feature film (due for release in May of 2002). This full-roaming action-adventure game allows players to jump into the suit of a fledgling Marvel superhero and learn how to battle the forces of evil. Players crawl, leap, and swing from the dizzying heights of skyscrapers to catch criminals and supervillains, and, ultimately, come face-to-face with the Green Goblin in a death-defying display of aerial combat. During the course of the game, players must use Spider-Man's spider-sense, agility, quick wits, and strength to evade the pursuit of the bad guys and overcome obstacles.
1 WHAT THE F*** ?
Did a blind man design the camera system? You can't see who is attacking you! You're getting your butt handed to you becuase you are encircled by a gang and are helpless to do anything about it? W T F????
This game COULD have been awesome, THANK GOD they got it right with spiderman 2. It's a shame because the graphics are good, but the controls are AWFUL. Avoid this like the plauge, spend the extra bucks and get the second spierman movie game....it's a world apart becuase that game is actaully good while THIS ONE SUCKS
2 Great Game
I loved this game. I have played levels over and over again. It is really fun. I don't think it's all that hard. Okay so the big machine in Oscorp and hiding from the Oscorp is a little challeging, but overall it is fairly easy. I recomend this game to people who love to go across the city via web and to anyone who liked the movie.
3 Nice, but....
Visually attractive, the storyline is loyal to the movie plus some adds to it like the scorpion chracter. Cool combo moves and nice backgrounds. Ok, here's the dilemma, when Spiderman is searching for the bad guys, where the hell is the web hanging from? a cloud? a helicopter that follows Spiderman wherever he goes? I know it's just a little detail but it is very notable. Besides that, the game itself is good but it gets from very easy to very hard from one level to the next. Buy it if you liked the movie, rent it if you want to distract yourself a while.
4 NOT WHAT I HAD HOPED FOR
I thought that I was in heaven during the first eight levels of this game. It was fun and challenging, but I got through them with a smile. But pretty soon it seemed the levels were getting impossible. I tried over and over again to beat some of the levels and i finally realized that it wasnt gonna happen. So i gave up. This game is great for anyone really looking for a challenge. I love a challenge... but this game just seemed like an impossibility. Definitely not a game for the younger crowd.
5 Too hard but its an ok game.
Well this game is ok, but there are several cons. You see I got this game and started playing for hours, but it kind of got boring and hard, so I got tired of it and quit playing. I reccomend you to get this if you like hard challenging games, because this one is. But I dont like challenging games so im planning to sell it.
6 It's good but it just gets too hard
This game is really cool but it just gets too hard after four or five levels. I own this game but I have never beat it because it's just too hard. It seems like it's only made for the expert gamers. Wolverine's Revenge is better as far as Super-hero games go.
7 spiderman
This a challenging game but maybe not for a young child. There's alot of levels and I'm 9 and it was hard. Even though this an E rated game, it's kinda violent. This game has old and new scoundrels I would reccomend this game.
8 Spiderman!
I'm still loving this game even after playing it since it came out. I hope they make a movie sequel so there'll be more great spiderman games of this caliber.
9 Spider-man The Movie For Xbox

to building by shooting webs.Spiderman also must save
Mary Jane and some guards by picking them up and getting
them away from danger.Spiderman must also diffuse bombs
and fix towers and bridges by webbing them togeather.
The city scapes are beautiful you get both day and night

cheats that you might want to try.

is working on Spiderman 2 and it should be out by late
spring or early summer of 2004 before the movie comes out.
It has even better features than this one. This is a pretty
fun game once you learn how to fly, climbwalls and fight
and I recommend it along with the companion Spiderman
Stratagy guide book put out by Brady Games.I also recommend
Superman The Man Of Steel And The Hulk Game.
10 It's fun for a while
Then it gets too hard and very frustrating. I'm not a spider. I can't seem to find a way to crawl all the way to the top of the Vulture's "home." The controls are solid. The combos are pretty cool. The game seems big enough. It's challenging and fun at times. I can only play the same level about a thousand times before I get too frustrated to continue. I've got upwards of 30 games and this one is smack dab in the middle. If you're a big Spidey fan like me, get it. Just don't be surprised if it gets too hard.
11 Spider-Man
This is is an okay Game By Activision, it is Spiderman Based on the movie and it got more.
In The Game You Have to Defend The city from the Clutches of Evil With all new combat moves, and Move through Stunning Scenes from the Movie as you explore enormous city environments with newfound maneruverability and You Can Battle the Toughest Villans including; Shocker, Kraven The Hunter, Vulture and The Green Goblin.
Spiderman on the Xbox got one More Special Level You Wont Find it in the other two Systems.
This Game is Cool, But Short, so You might Rent it First, if You like it then i guess Buy it.
12 Spiderman the Movie
Spiderman the movie is a really awesome game at the begining. The first 6 levels are so cool. But, 6,7,8,9,and 10 are STUPID.
I thought that the graphics were ok, but they could have been better. The game is totaly unrealistic. When you are on level 1, in downtown Manhattan, you swing from building to building with your web. Spiderman shoots his web up in the air, and it sticks to nothing, but he still can swing. It is really weird. I think that you should rent this game before you purchase it, because you might not like it.
13 Kabaamm! Here comes the spider man-on xbox!
OH yeah! first i would like to start out by saying i own this game and it didn't cost much. So if you like it you might just wnat to buy it cause it is real cheap compared to other xbox games. any way in this game you are spider man and you have to fight crime. You have a hole bunch of cool web moves and attacks and aerial moves-and you can unlock more during the game. you get the spider man basics like web swinging. you fight all the guys from the movie plus other ones. the gameplay isn't too hard and tobey magurie only doesn't sound interested at some parts. also if you beat it on super heroe(which i haven't done yet but plan to do) you get to be the green goblin. this is over all a 5 star game like it says. ...
14 spiderman
good game. has extra stuuff on xbox. its more fun to play as SPOILER SPOILER SPOLER green goblin though. his attacks are much better and he can fly.
15 A very good game that lacked a few things...
I, like millions of others, flocked to see Spider-man, the movie, back in May of 2002. I loved it! I saw it a total of 4 times in theaters. So when I saw the game, I HAD to pick it up. And pick it up I did, and played through the entire thing several times. But something was missing. Here's what I thought of Spider-man: The Movie!
1) Gameplay: Its a very fun game, and this is it's strongest point. You can, in 4 words, "Do Anything Spider-man Can!" You can swing around the HUGE cities, beat up thugs with over 40 different moves (you unlock new ones buy getting Golden Spiders), crawl on any wall, etc... You can shoot web, do web domes (protect you from enemy gunshots, etc...) You can also crawl anywhere you can get your fingers on, hang down from a sort of web rope and spy on unsuspecting enemies. The whole thing is really quite fun, and while I've owned this game for 4 months, I still pop it in and swing around Spidey style every once and awhile. Thats how good the gameplay is.
The problem here? There are only about 12 levels, most fairly easy. And while going back and playing them on the harder setting is fun, its not half as fun the second time around.
As for playing it on the harder settings (there are 4: Easy, Normal, Hero, Super Hero), its almost IMPOSSIBLE on just Normal. Easy you can beat in 2 days, but the rest... The enemies strenth twice as strong, the enemies atacks are twice as strong, your web supply goes down by almost half. It's just WAY too hard. It gets to a point where your almost scared to go down and fight a thug because you'll lose so much of your health. Hard-core gamers will find the first 3 settings difficult (while casual get stuck on just normal), while even Hard-core, awsome, never die gamers will get stuck on Super Hero. It's added depth, but its also really annoying. I'd give gameplay 4 stars*
2) Graphics: Fairly good. You can see the web perfectly, Spider-man looks awsome. The worlds are beautifly annimated, and each are fairly large. The problem? The faces look terrible, and there aren't enough character designs (too many of the same people)! When you tie up enemies, the webbing jut looks like...there. It doesn't rap around, it just looks really bad... When your fighting thugs, or people, or whatever, you'll find yourself fighting dozens of people. Yet there are only 2 common types of thugs, two types of business men, two types of guards, you get the point. If your sitting there, fighting off 12 people, you'll notice that 6 look EXACTLY the same, and the other 6 look EXACTLY the same. Its like your fighting an army of clones. Very dissappointing, otherwise the graphics are very good. But counting that last comment, I have to give it 3 stars*
3) Options: Probably the game's weakest point. NO multiplayer or 2-player cooperation (would have been really cool!). No real bonuses or un-lockables. There are some mini-gamers, like Pin-head bowling, or "The Big Brawl", but NOTHING that will keep you playing the mini-game for more than a few minutes. And the freedom that this game could have built upon...just isn't there. Being able to look for crimes and stop them, seeing HUGE cities from Spider-man's point of view, and getting to explore a full New York City. That would have been cool!
But they didn't, they just went by the story. And while the story in this game (to go with the movie) is great, I think it would have been cooler if u could have had some freedom in between missions. The way it is, you are confined mostly to the insiden of buildings, having to go a SPECIFIC way, with no freedom. It's still a fun game, but didn't take advance of what (in my mind) could have made a GREAT game. 2 Stars*
4) Sound: The game's strongest point. Voice acting by the actors from the movie, it really adds to the experience. As for the characters not in the movie, EXTREMELY well done. Even the casual "Look mommy, there's Spider-man" from a little girl's perspective is done to perfection, as you often feel like you are living in Spider-man's world. The villains sound evil and menacing, the thugs sound...like thugs... And everyone really clicks to a sort of New York feeling, which adds to the game.
The web makes sounds: swish, swash. Really cool! The gunshots sound real and scary, the fighting scenes sound...convinving. Other than that, this game's SOUND was awesome! 4.5 stars*
Overall, I really liked this game. Its fun to go back and play, and there's enough positives to compete with the negatives. I'd definantly recommend this game if u can find it for a good price.
As long as your not looking for perfection, you WON'T be disappointed. A pretty good game compared to past Spider-man games!
Thx!
16 Awesome!
This game is incredible! It is thrilling whether you are a fan of the movie or not. The graphics are so realistic, so smooth, so amazing! This game really shows off the power of the xbox. The graphics are almost the best part of the game! :) The game-play itself is also rewarding. There are many different levels in which you have the chance to do plenty of fighting, swinging, etc. Each detailed level is unique with much to explore. The extensive training modes are also very impressive, most of which are entertaining in themselves! In different training modes, you can practice numerous different techniques and strategies that you must use throughout the game. The entire game provides high-quality entertainment. If you're looking for a new and exciting game to play, Spiderman is a great investment!
17 Actually being Spider-Man
This game is great. Its the movie with the PLyastation Spider-Man 1 and 2 games thrown it. Its very easy to play and the game has a good default controller setup. Some of the missions are boring and annoying especially when you have to chase the Vulture but overall this game is great.
I only give it 4 stars because like the PLaystation games it gets a little boring, especially when you keep messing up.
18 Cool game from the movie
This game has some very cool moments and is pretty true to spiderman genre...must have for all spiderman fans.
19 Spiderman on the Xbox
Somewhat disappointing on the Xbox, maybe I was expecting too much. The camera angles are somewhat annoying always a minute late during heavy action scenes. Controls seem to invert at times especially while wall crawling. Good background music.
20 5 out of 5
This is one of the best superhero games that I've played. It is worth your money. There are many new moves and combos. You can also play as the Goblin after you beat the game. The only thing I didnt like is that the movie isnt completely on the comic strip therefore the game too. However all in all it is worth buying.
21 GREAT
This game was great! The levels on this game is great. I love all the different villians you have to battle. In all the grahics were really great. I love the camera angles because it wasn't annoying like so many other games, the camera is where the action is and that's great! If you beat the game on super hero you win the green goblin and that is so much of fun
22 An Excellent Game: Spiderman
I greatly suggest this title to all Xbox owners out there, but be forewarned, some do not like this style of play; rent it before you buy it. Here's my rating of different aspects of the game on a scale of 1-10:
Graphics: 9
The graphics are beautiful - prerendered bliss. The outdoor levels are superb. It's amazing to watch the sun reflect off of a scyscraper while web-swinging through the air. I wasn't as inmpressed with the indoor levels, but they were sufficient.
Voice Acting: 8
It was nice to hear the actors from the film do voiceovers. Although I enjoyed the trademark Peter Parker sarcasm, he sounded completely disinterested at times. William Dafoe (I hope I didn't butcher his name) was a different story. He sounded genuinely evil!
Storyline: 8.5
The storyline stuck to the movie's plot enough so that that those of you don't follow Spiderman understood the plot. But it had an original tinge to it, adding many surprises and including characters such as: Shocker, Kraven the Hunter, Scorpion, forget the others, and of course, the Green Goblin. The levels were bridged with short movies that explained what was going in detail.
Gameplay: 10+
Ahh, this was the section I was waiting for... Even if everything else about the game was terrible, the gameplay is only surpassed by perhaps Halo. The satisfaction I get from grabbing on to the Green Goblin's hovercraft in midair and reapeatedly punching him makes me tingle. Memorizing and trying to unlock new attack combos is excellent. The variety of fighting styles is mind boggling. The levels get proggressively more difficult, but they're always manageable with a little use of that gray matter poppin' out of your head.
Replayibility: 6
I enjoy exploring the specials and trying new cheats, but the replay value isn't that great. The designers could've included difficulty levels or something. But oh well (sigh)...
Multiplayer: 1
There is no multiplayer! The only reason I gave it a 1 is that you can take turns on the missions with your friends.
Party on! Buy Spiderman!
23 Awsome for the first two days. . .
This game is original and has great fights and so on, but it gets frustratingly difficult and there is no multiplayer. It gets old too fast. Don't get me wrong though, its fun, but it feels empty and there is no much replay value in the campaign. Sometimes missions are more of a chore than having fun.
24 get trapped in this web
super-heroes come and go but the spider stands alone. sure, there have been a lot of lame movie into video games shoved through production this summer (i'm not naming names; you know who you are!) but Activision has delivered the goods in this one. Awesome graphics, great aerial moves: spider-man rocks!
25 Good, but Flawed
In this game Spider-Man comes in great fashion and few flaws. I might as well say the flaws first. They are: Gameplay is very familiar. The first couple of levels are annoying and pointless. And there is no multiplayer. Other than that though, it is super fun and recomended to spiderman fans.
26 4 and 1/4 stars.
The replay value is what gives it the 1/4. Its not much but better than nothing. The game itself is very fun and definitely worth renting and if you really like it and like the little replay value of the game like spider man bowling, playing as green goblin, playing as shocker, and playing as other people (like Mary Jane, a Cop, a thug, etc.) For a reference of other games is Buffy The Vampire Slayer, If you like that for XBOX you'll LOVVVVE spider-man. (XBOX VERSION HAS BONUS LEVEL!!!)
27 A Lesson For Those Who Purchase Titles Based on Licenses
Preamble: I decided on two stars for expediency. Since amazon.com doesn't have the option of half stars i thought it would be better to give a ranking within such purview. The game really deserves two and a half stars, not two. Also, my opinion is colored by the history that Licenses (whether it be movie to games or vice versa) have portrayed in terms of originality. Games based off movies (Judge Dredd, X-Men: Mutant Academy, all Star Wars games, etc.) aren't created to capture a new audience but to over-satiate an audience that's already hooked on a product. It's a shame since these games could have expanded the licenses by adding new stories, ideas and themes instead of acting as sloppy simulacrums.
Spider-Man for the Xbox is, firstly, graphically well-done. Spider-Man, as well as his nemeses, move with extreme fluidity and ample graphical tweaking (good anti-aliasing). When you're flying through skylines the utteer power of the Xbox becomes apparent as every building, big or small, is viewable or at least impeded by very little "fog." The controls are also easy to manipulate for the most part.
However, problems arise to shake this somewhat solid foundation. The camera is tricky, annoyingly so. Sometimes as you're running through a hallway the camera will switch angles if there's a turn but the computer controls do not compensate for this change. So instead of you switching directions along with the camera it's as though you run in straight lines until you hit walls and other objects (sometimes even villains). The A.I. is woefully underconstructed. Normal henchmen, later on in the game, surround you by the bundles and seem to know nothing more than beating you down even if they are the only one around. When there are 5 or 6 around it becomes utter tedium to dispose of all of them but when there are only 1 or 2 it seems pathetic. Although there are some who block your attacks, they don't surround you and you can esily get rid of them by wrapping them up in webbing and going combo-crazy. Also, fighting even rudimentary bullies becomes a pain since you have to vigilantly monitor the little health gague equipped. When fighting bosses, some of which fight with deadly efficacy, every punch, kick, jump and swing must be designed with utmost care and precision otherwise the game will get very frustrating very quickly.
The sound, though not terribly annoying, becomes bland. Level after level the same orchestral number rings through as though the production team was strapped for cash. The voice acting also becomes a nuisance as both the narrator and Spider-man regurgitate lines. "Are you guys recyclable?" "Hey, Killbot 5000." "Jane, stop this crazy thing!" What's worse is that the sound effects--all of which sound as though they were recorded under pillows--would leave the game feeling empty if the voice acting wasn't there at all.
Besides these issues, the game is also short (~4 hours long) and also has sloppy cinemas. The bottom line is that if I had seen the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it then the game would have received a higher rating because it would have been judged as an *extention* of a movie license, not an individual parcel. If you enjoyed the movie then you'll probably enjoy the game as well.
28 An ok game
The graphics for Spider Man are great. Game play is short. Once you get the hang of the controls...game is easy to beat. Not the game that it was hyped up to be. Rent it first!
29 Not TO Good
This game is a bore! I didn't really enjoy this and it's another game I dont know why people like so much. The first level was good but after you beat Uncle Ben's killer it just gets so boring . The graphics aren't bad but the gameplay and the controls are. Overall, Fair game worth a rent that's it!(better than Halo)
30 a 4
This game is good except for where the hell do u swing from and some other things, you can't walk on the ground, it has good graphics, and you can't goeverywhere in new york.
31 four rating
This games pretty good except for where the hell do you swing from, You can't walk on the ground and you don't get free roaming but i mean like u don't get to go anywhere in new york. But the graphics are good.
32 four rating
This games pretty good except for where the hell do you swing from, You can't walk on the ground and you don't get free roaming but i mean like u don't get to go anywhere in new york. But the graphics are good.
33 GOOD BUT SHORT
This game is really cool. It is packed with action and fighting. You have to fight Uncle Ben's Killer, Shocker, Vulture, Green Goblin, and Kraven. Plus the hundreds of guys you have to fight on the way to the boss. The game would be a five star but it is to short. If it had Venom, Rhino, Charnage, and other guys then it would be a five star game. All in all this is a great game but I wouln't buy it just rent it and you'll beet it with in that time.
34 Pretty Good
I do not own this game, but I rented it and it was very fun. I do not advise you to buy it because it is fairly easy, although there are multiple difficulty levels, it gets boring to play the same levels over and over again. When I rented it and played it on easy, I could beat most of the levels on my first or second try and I am not one of those people that beats most games in less than a week. This game has great graphics and good controls, but it just gets old. My advice is to rent it, and if you don't beat it right away maybe buy a used copy, but I don't think its worth 50 bucks.
35 Sloppy game
Great graphics, great story line, very boring to play. Some flaws-the bad guys are all in set pattersn and it is very easy to figure out, it is also only a one player game.
The game is very true to the movie in story line and it is kind of fun the firs couple of hours...but I traded this game in after two weeks. Rent it, don't buy it.
36 Would Have Liked to See Better
You been bit by the spiderman bug yet? By chance, you have. You have seen the incredible movie, and you want more. Dont use this game as the cure.
Graphics: 7.5
-With the graphics being so-so, and being that there is not much of a difference between the PS2 version and XBOX version, it only gets a 7.5. Vertex shading is awful, but that gets saved by the dazzling effects of the ground when you are gracefully flying in the air. Another problem was that the web you string goes no where in the air. By that, I mean that the web sticks to nothing. Poor detail is the count for this, and THIS gets saved by the excellent animation, which is better than the movie's animation by far! The last problem is that some inside areas are dark, and i mean DARK! In the 2nd mission it is nearly impossible to see!
Gameplay: 7.1
-Bla bla bla, another 3rd person beat-em-up game. Woah, you fly in the air as spiderman?! Cool! The game has pretty neat twists in the story, as well as added on features, not showed in the movie, but the gameplay is not as good. The controls are downright impossible to get used to, meaning this game has a high learning curve for controlls. The game isn't much fun just in the sense of it. This game really did not get me to play for very long. Beating people up is too easy, and you almost NEVER run out of web, making it as easy as a movement of the joystick and one or two button presses. Then again, sometimes it is so hard that you need to make too many button presses, making your fingers worn out by all the pressing. Then again, it is mostly just an easy kids game.
Replay Value: 1.0
-Replay value? THERE IS NONE!!! YOU BEAT THE GAME THAT IS IT!!! There is the tutorial, a few practices and the game. You play those you are DONE!
Sound: 4.0
-This game has terrible music that you hardly even realize, and when you hit somebody it sounds like an explosion. When you sling your web, it sounds like somebody blew a whistle while at the same time took a rubber band and slided it against a window. Need I say more?! Terrible voiceovers make this game's sound even worse.
General Value: 7.0
-This game is for spiderman fans only. Because of awful graphics, terrible voiceovers, impossible AND easy gameplay, and terrible sound, this game makes a worthless attempt to steal your money. No replay value makes this a one-time game. This game shows that with some games, "instead of no pain, no gain", its "Lots of pain, no gain".
Overall: 6.65
-This game is for spidey fans only. If you want to cure the spider bug's bite, then just buy a poster of Mary-Jane and gaze at her terribly beautiful body and wet t-shirt dirrectly from the movie.
37 awesomeness
this game is full of action and adventure if u like or hate spider man u will still like this game
38 THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER BY ACTIVISION
THIS GAME ROCKS! IT'S THE BEST THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN FROM ACTIVISION. IF YOU THINK GAMES LIKE HALO AND DEAD OR ALIVE 3 WERE THE ONLY GREAT HITS FOR X-BOX, YOU THOUGHT WRONG! BUY THIS, BUY THIS, BUY THIS! BUY IT FOR YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND NEIGHBORS! THIS IS A REALLY COOL GAME!!
39 spiderman
It is a great game but it does not last very long.
40 Spiderman
I love the fact that every Spider-Man ability I could ever want has been included in this game. You get the sense that you're operating through a standard third person adventure game, but you get the benefits that come with spider-related powers. The outdoor segments are outstanding and gave me the chance to do somethings that I've always wanted to do in a videogame. You can watch Spider-Man in the movie and read about him in books, but Treyarch has delivered the only way to control Spider-Man and have him do everything you know he's capable of...and they made it look good.
Even with all of this though, the challenges you'll face as Spider-Man are no match for all of those wonderful spider powers you have. The game just comes down to a matter of persistence and patience because you get so good, so soon. Sure in the comic books, the hero always wins eventually, but even Spider-Man had to suffer through some overwhelming adversity on the way to a few of those victories.
I'm not a big fan of games that force you to manipulate the camera as much as you have to manipulate the character. It's good in that you're given complete control of the camera so you can make it work to your advantage, but it's more fun to just control Spider-Man.
Spider-Man is easily one of the top superhero videogames of all time and it's taken full advantage of the videogame technology out there. There's nothing like it on the Xbox and so it should be worth a few hours of your gaming life.
41 TOO MUCH HYPE
I REALLY LIKE SPIDER MAN. I LIKE EVERY THING ABOUT IT BUT IT IS MISSING SOMETHING. THEY SAID IT IS FREE ROAMING BUT IT IS NOT. I WANT TO GO EVERY WHERE IN THE WHOLE CITY AND DO WHAT EVER I WANT WITH MY SUPER POWERS. IT IS TOO LIMITED AND IT RESTRICTS ME TOO MUCH TO WHERE I CAN GO. DIDN'T THEY NOTICE ELDER SCROLLS 3: MORROWIND AND GRAND THEFT AUTO 3? THE GAME IS GREAT BUT IT STILL FEELS RUSHED. IT COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
42 JUST OK, BUT NOT GREAT
I also own Spider Man for Dreacast and it seemed an aufull lot like it ,and I began to wander why I spent 200$ on an XBOX. I got bored right away and went to trade it in. So I didnt give it a full chance but I feel like the only thing some of these games offer are the little movies inbetween the stages. If you've never played spider man on any other console you'll like it. To me, It was like reading a novel then going to see the movie on the novel, then reading a book on the movie ,then playing the video game made on the movie based off the novel. I liked the Dreamcast version that I paid 15$ for better. The graphics are cool, but the game control frustrated me a bit. If I had a more new open mind I probably would have liked it.
43 Great Game!
This is a great game. Like others who have reviewed it before, I'll echo that you can do anything that Spidey can do. This means there is a long learning curve, but its a FUN learning curve! I stay in the first scenario (thugs on roof tops) and do a lot of experimenting. When you play into later levels you learn tricks that you can take BACK to earlier levels. For example, when you get past the first boss (Uncle Ben's killer) the next level is actually a tutorial level showing you that you can shoot web bombs while in the air. I now use this in the first level, which results in perfect scores a lot since I'm nowhere near them.
My only complaints are the camera motion IS sometimes difficult to work with, especially in corners. I often find myself travelling the opposite direction I thought I would travel. The other minor complaint is with the instruction manual. It needs to be more detailed. For example, it needs to say what aspects go into scoring for "Combat Style". I have played a perfect level with a 0 combat style, and I've gotten a 1000 (perfect) score on combat style while fighting a level where I take damage (imperfect). So I don't know what the difference was.
It is a good thing that a lot needs to be discovered (i.e., not in manual), but certain details which should have been explained were left out. Another example is the ability to web-throw-a-bad-guy in a direction. Now I've done it, but I have no idea what I did to cause the bad guy to be thrown left or right instead of just pulled directly towrds me. And I still don't know. (On a 'light' note, one of my favorite manuavers is to pull a bad guy off the roof letting him fall to his death. One can also fight with a bad guy near an edge causing both of you falling off, but YOU can cast a web and recover, HE keeps falling!).
Finally, a cool tip. One of the coolest things in the movie is the "Organic Webbing" spidey had instead of the comic book invention. Well, in Cheats use "ORGANICWEBBING" to get unlimited web fluid! This makes you really feel cool since you can do all web tricks without thinking about web fluid cost (on other hand some fights are now very easy by using the web dome).
Love the game! later.... :)
44 Very Fun, but Flawed
This game is one of the best I've ever played. It's also one of the most annoying. You would figure TreyArch may have wanted to test this better before sending it off to production. The game locks up at critical points, requiring you to restart the console.
45 The amazing Spider-man
I purchased this game after seeing the movie. I was blown away by the movie, and I was blown away by the game. Watching the movie, I wish I was Spider-man. This game allows the dream to come true. Instead of controlling our character, you actually feel like you are the character. The bonuses in the game are awesome. The graphics are amazing. William Dafoe and Toby Maguire lent their voices, which is a nice touch. The game loosely follows the movie. This is one of the greatest games that I have ever played. A defenite buy for every Xbow owner.
46 Buy me now!
This is a great game, and if you don't already have it, get it now. What is cool about this game is you are spiderman and you get to use all of his tricks to fight the bad guys. In addition to the webbing tricks, there are also combos for regular fighting you unlock along the way. But it isn't all fight, the grafics are awsome. They are so detailed, and not just in the cut scenes, you can get a camera angle on spiderman right infront of his face, like a foot away, and it looks perfect. It is just a great game, get it now.
47 Great Game
---YOU SHOULD BUY IT---
This is a great game. It is very challenging and entertaining. For those of you buying this game for your children, although the game is suitable for ages 6 and up, it is very challenging, and will be very frustrating for most people under the age of 10. The non-main characters in the game do not look at all similar to those in the movie, but the main characters are beautifully rendered. As the spiderman movie was no jackie-chan movie, the game would be pretty short if it only followed the plot because there were not all that many different action scenes in the movie. To make the game suitably long, they created elements not in the movie, such as 'the shocker' or 'the raven'. The lame villan names, however, suggest that these sub-plots were issues in the comic book, which I have not read, so they may not be completely unrelated.
The In-game cheats are interesting, especially the bowling minigame. It's much more entertaining than it would appear.
The game has a very easy learning curve, thanks to the multiple interactive tutorials and training missions, all hosted by a comical voice guide. "...so that you don't fall, and [stunk], and die..."
48 Faithful to the movie and fun too
Most movie tie-in games I've played either have [been bad or worse]. Spider-Man: The movie is a good and fun tie-in to the movie which rocked. The graphics are smooth and very detailed. The look on Spider-Man and his enemies are great. The controls are easy to learn and smooth. It takes awhile to master them, but once you do you can practically duplicate the insane moves that are shown in the movie.
I picked up the Xbox version instead of the PS2 because of the two extra levels added to the Xbox version. One of the additions being an extra boss: Kraven-Manhunter!
I give this game a must-buy!
49 Web Slinging Fun!!!
I have just rented the Spider-Man Movie game and I like what I see. This game is killer. Its cool because it shows what the movie could have been like if it had all of the best Spider-Man villians in it (unfortunately if the movie had all of the villians it would have lasted forever, not that its a bad thing of course). I am thinking about buying this game. Trust me, if you are a Spider-Man fan, comic book fan, or just a fan of great video games, you must check this game out. (Oh, and just for the record, I'm really 14.)
50 Worth Every Penny, Over and Over and...
Those who say this game gets dull really quickly, or that it's too easy are obviously not very easy to impress. For most, this game is awsome. Here are some reasons why:
1. The gameplay and replay value are great. There are 4 levels of difficulty: easy, normal, hero, and superhero. Easy is of course, easy. Takes about 2 hours to beat. But after that it gets incredibly hard; yet fun. I bought this game over two weeks ago, and I'm still playing it for hours everyday, and it never gets boring. The replay value and gameplay are great.
2. The graphics are simply put, awsome. Everyone down to the littlelist detail looks real. There are amazing buttons to push and try like Slinging villains into walls or into each other, creating a web dome to protect yourself from gunfire. The ability to zip instantly up to ceilings and swing around buildings. Even the ability to land on top of villains and beat'em up from there. Did I mention the ability to shoot web bombs at villains, even tie them up for up to several minutes? The editor is correct in one manner: you can do anything that spiderman can do.
3. If your worried about getting to know the game and how to work the controls, don't worry. There's a training level that teaches you everything, step by step. Your even trained by a comedian, who has a lot of funny jokes. I really enjoyed training mode.
4. You play up to 5 villains, each more challenging then the first. Each has a few thugs and robots that you have to get by to get to the main villain.
5. Finally, it's worth the 40 or 50 bucks you might pay for it. I bought it on sale for 39.99, and I've played it for close to 50 hours (and I'm still looking forward to playing it everyday).
To wrap it up, it gives hours and hours of fun, and if your new to the Xbox, this is a great game to try it out on first. Well, that's my view on this game. Now I have to go play Spider-man!
51 A lot of fun.
I'm surprised how many official and individual reviews are luke-warm to this game. I've had a blast playing it and I still am. I agree that it is a little too short, but it's not nearly as bad as most of the adventure console games I've played. The Green Goblin missions give the game a depth of replayability that most games never do. If you grow bored with the game, you should try finding some of the cheats that are out there. SOme of them really add extra depth.
I'll agree that the camera mode can be a little frustrating sometimes. I think they've done the best they can considering the complicated movements that Spidey performs, but some of the indoor levels can be whacky with the action gets tense. Some reviewers and even the offical Xbox magazine accused some of the levels of being boring. It's true that some of the later "creeping around" levels are a little tedious, but I thought they were all interesting enough to keep me going. A little difficult maybe, but not boring.
Although they're a little grainy, a side effect of being a cross platform game I'm sure, the graphics are still excellent. The attention to detail, lighting and city scapes are absolutely incredible. The sound is good, but nothing to write home about. I will say that the Dolby Digital sound really helped create a sense of paranoia when creeping around, especially when the alarms go off. I also liked the the fact that Tobey McGuire did the voice work instead of a stand in.
What I think makes the game most succesful and satisfying for me as a player is how the developers managed to fuse all the better aspects of the movie with the comics. Since this game is based on the movie, they had to make the add-on villains a little more photo-realistic so they didn't seem out of place or goofy. The story and cinematics are top-notch and balance between interactive movie and interactive comic. The makers got it all right in this category. The web-slinging, the mid air acrobatics, the high speed action is exactly what I'd come to expect. Unlike Batman: Vengence, the Xbox's other recent multi-platform superhero game, the novelty of being Spiderman doesn't quite wear off.
I've seen the PS2 and Gamecube versions in action and they're vastly inferior. The Xbox version even has a bonus level featuring Kraven the Hunter. Even if you decide not to buy this game, it's definitely worth a rent. I can't remember the last time I played an old fashioned adventure game and enjoyed it, but I definitely enjoyed this one.
52 Very Good Game but...
This game is great in controls for Xbox (unlike PS2)with enhanced mode there is only two set backs all together Them bloody camera angles sudden changes screw up your movment and the storyline is just too short you can almost finish it in the time of the move if you get it right the first time but other than that it is a good game its even more interesting when you actually be the Green Goblin!
53 A little too much hype for this game
I am a big fan of spiderman. The movie was cool, but a little boring. The game itself follows this pattern. Exploring all of spideys web powers is extremely fun, such as web gloves, or impact webbing, but the game is tedious. The game is also pretty hard, even on normal. the computer surrounds you with enemies that are stupid, but have high life, and are hard to take down.
The graphics on the xbox are decent, but compared to games like Halo and Rallisport Challenge, it really doesn't match up. The outdoor levels in the city are fun, but inside buildings, the game is boring.
If you really like spiderman, by all means get it. If you don't, rent it, check it out first.
54 This game is awesome
This is the best game I've plaed on Xbox. The graphics are the best. There are so many levals and alot of boses the game never gets boring. The game is not very hard but not too easy. The controls are funky like Halo and Max Pain but it is the game is very fun.
55 A complete superhero adventure worth your purchase
The expression "short but sweet" describes Spider-Man very well. On normal I was able to beat the game in only about 10 hours. To be perfectly honest with you, I'm not that good at games. Spidey provided me with one of the shortest action/adventure games I've ever played, but I enjoyed every second of it. This is one of the top three games out there for X-Box. I've played most of them. This is no overstatement. You are given a task to accomplish, and you are given the freedom to accomplish it any way you choose.
Gameplay:
The boss battles were unlike any boss battles I've ever played before. I won't forget anytime soon the experience I had chasing Green Goblin through the New York City skies. The hand-to-hand combat style is remarkably similiar to that of Shenmue for Sega Dreamcast. You fight with the button combos your character knows and you discover new ones along the way. You can fight enemies anyway you'd like. If you prefer to tie them up with web and pound on them with your fists, you can. If you want to fall from the sky and dropkick them in the head, you can. Total freedom. And in video games, Freedom=Fun. Smooth, smooth, smooth. Minimal glitches and no slow downs make the X-Box version that much better. My only complaints would be the slow and frequent loading times between every level and absence of checkpoints. You can only save after you beat levels. For the long levels, that is a pain in the neck. As for the loading times, a minor annoyance, but I suppose it is necessary in order to produce the near flawless gameplay that you will see in Spider-Man.
Graphics:
Another category that the game shines in. Cars and building get smaller as you rise higher into the sky. Sky looks simply astonishing. A scene that sticks out in my mind is the fight with Vulture. It is foggy and raining when you start (rain looks how it really would if you were falling with it.) When Vulture is almost dead the sky clears up giving you an effect more amazing than any sky effect I've ever seen in a video game before. The cityscape streches on and on and building are modeled very realisticly. You will have to see it to believe it. Search the web (no pun intended) for screens from this game. You'll see what I mean.
Sound:
I never thought of Spider-Man as the sarcastic person "Spiderman: The Movie" makes him out to be. Even before seeing the movie, I have a good feeling of how they will portray him after playing this game. The real stars of the movies provide the voice overs adding a realistic touch to it. But in this case, that might be a bad thing. If you've ever heard Tobey Maguire speak you might know what I'm talking about. Characters talk a lot, but they say the same things over and over again. Though accurate, there should be more variety.
Control:
There's been many complaints about the controls in this game, but I like them. There are many, many tutorial modes to help you master the controls, which make learning them much easier then it would be if you could only read the manual. Camera follows you around pretty well, and you can lock it on enemies. A very convienant feature. There are occasional camera lockups, but you can take control of the camera to fix it and then set it back to auto. The bad control for me in Spider-Man was the Web-Zip control. It's hard to aim and difficult to execute. The Web-Zip might cause you problems when chasing Shocker and climbing buildings. Be prepared for a half hour learning curve. Simply put: The controls are well placed, but there are many of them.
Overall:
After beating Spider-Man, I can't wait to see what Superman will bring. Hand-to-hand combat while slinging thtough the air couldn't be more fun. The sound and some incomvieces make this game just short of perfect. Now I'm a critic, but Spider-Man: The Movie is an incredible adventure worth your purchase. If the length of this game makes you hesitant to burn [the money] on it then my recommendation would be to do a double rental. It will give you plenty of time to beat the game and it will only cost you [less].
Recap:
Gameplay: 10.0
Graphics: 9.5
Sound: 6.0
Control: 9.0
Fun: 10.0
Overall: 9.0
56 OK
Everyone else has pretty much summed up this game. Like a lot of games on X-Box, Spiderman has terrific graphics but not a whole lot of fun to play.
57 Good game but....
its a pretty interesting game but the only problem is that the storyline is too short. I completed the easy level in about 6 hours. After that, I don't feel like playing it again.
Nonetheless, its not that bad lah. I suggest u guys rent it for 5 days than just buying it because u will feel like selling it very soon.
58 Eye Candy Mostly
This game looks great. It has a nice polish. Good witicisms by Spidey got some laughs out of me. It has a couple of problems I'd like to point out though. First, camera angles. It is annoying and time consuming to have to turn the camera just to be able to see your enemies in the heat of battle and camera lock does not always keep the enemy in visusal range. Secondly, the difficulty is very odd. Some levels are exceptionally easy and others are quite a bit more difficult. The endong level with the Goblin was simple compared to the Oscorp fiasco. Sheesh, the load time spent to replay that level could have filled a year. I expect there is a reason cheats were built into the game. CHEATERS!!!! But, this is the best spiderman game to date in my opinion. Hurray for web-slinging!
59 Amazing Spider-man, amazing game
I bought this game when it first came out, and I have to agree this is an excellent reason to own an x-box. The graphics are stunning, the controls are fabulous, and overall the game is just fun. It's difficult, but not so difficult it is impossible to beat. The extras are very cool and I would suggest buying this one as soon as possible!!!
60 Don't think, just buy!
This game is AWESOME! The graphics are very good and the gameplay -- while taking a while to get used to, with all the different controls (do the training!) -- is great! The story follows some of the movie (and uses the voices), which also adds to the enjoyment.
61 why do i feel that the developers wrote most of these review
anyone else out there notice that when a new game comes out it seems that the developers of the actual game seem to write all these glowing reviews that are obvious - lol
62 Great game, great execution, all the bells and whistles.
First off, I don't actually own this game. I rented it. Yesterday. I've already beaten it. Twice. It's not a tough game once you get the hang of it. The tutorial is excellent, meaning that it is a great pick up and play game. The controls are excellent. They give an infinite variety of moves, web techniques, etc. without the impossible controls found in some games.
The graphics are insanely good. While watching some of the animation test movies, I actually forgot it was a video game. I was about to go get some popcorn when it ended. However, this level of graphics isn't only found in the cut scenes; the in-game graphics are supperb.
This game truly has all the bells and whistles. Spidey is hillarious when he taunts the bosses during battle. I especially enjoy listening to him try to geuss his opponents names. The cheats are another big plus. This is extremely rare for a video game. This is only the 3rd game I've played that kept me playing just to unlock cheats (the others being Tony Hawk 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for Dreamcast). This game includes what is definitely the coolest cheat in any game ever. I won't tell you how to get it, but if you meet one of two conditions, you can play as the Green Goblin. This not only changes your character's look, but it also give a completely new set of controls, voice acting, cut scenes, and even plot. It's essentially a new game with the same levels. The only problem here is that without Spidey's wall sticking and swinging ability, Green Goblin has to rely on power rather than stealth. No complaints though.
The only thing that worried me about the controls was the implimentation of midair sequences. Trust me. This is not a problem. You can swing, while dodging bombs, while shooting web for hours with relatively little experience.
The obvious attention to detail behind this game makes it a great title for all sorts of gamers. It doesn't matter what sort of games you like, this is a fun title for everyone.
63 Awesome, totally awesome. However...
I really thought this game rules. I don't play video games at all (except for Resident Evil and old SNES games), but this one was cool. The only bad thing is I don't like the control scheme (when the camera moves, your up down left right controls switch around b/c you're now playing from a different perspective, go figure) or the way the camera moves. I can't really play games like this because the constant swinging camera gets really dizzying and makes me wanna puke. I liked the RE series because the camera angle changes, it doesn't follow directly behind you so everything moves superfast. Another bad thing is that it's addicting so I get dizzy very easily. It's redeeming quality is its amazing graphics (I felt like I was really watching spiderman) and engaging (though sometimes repetitive) gameplay. It was just the way I like it, not too easy and definitely not too hard. Overall, game is good in moderation - don't get addicted and don't get dizzy.
64 WoW!
First let me say this, my brother brought this game for out xbox. Which at first, I wasn't to crazy about, not my type of game. Then, after playing it, I must say it is an INCREDIABLE game!!! You literally become a living and breathing "virtual" spiderman, so to speak. I mean, you are able to encompass the character from web swinging, to webing the bad guys. The graphics, storyline and gameplay are INCREDIABLE. ... I believe there are alone, 30 plus fight move combination, which excludes all the other webbing and swinging manuvers. Great game, I highly recommend it.
65 Looks good, plays, uhhhh...
Spider-Man is definitely a mixed bag of sorts. If you're a Spidey freak(you know who you are), you should run out to the nearest store and steal this game and take off running. No, please don't. I don't want a lawsuit on my hands. The best thing about this game is that it perfectly recreates the feeling of being Spider-Man, especially if you enter underthemask at the cheat screen. You'll figure it out. Kraven the Hunter's two levels exclusive to the Xbox are two of the best in the game. Spidey's arsenal of moves include a ball of webbing that acts as a projectile and firing a great amount of webbing at a thug and tying them up. If it weren't for the defunct camera and Tobey Maguire's somewhat lame voiceover, this game would instantly be a great classic.
66 Great graphics
I recently bought this game for my Xbox. The graphics are above par and quite detailed. However, some of the objectives in the levels seem quite awkward, but thank the Lord for the cheat code to skip a level
. I haven't heard any foul language in the game (unlike Halo, which I recently returned). I am glad that as far as I have seen, this game does not have any sexual connotations, foul language, or too much violence (I hope it does not show up later in the game). If a parent is looking for this game for their kids, I would say it would be an OK game for them, just make sure they don't play it too much though! :) Also, one more thing is that between each level their are some fascinating scenes which I suppose are from the movie (except these are 3D rendered).
67 could have been better
I love the game, but the camera agles [stink]. I almost tossed the whole system out of my window when I was in a corner getting my [rear] kicked by a nobody badguy, and all I could see was Spidy. I love the grafics and controls are good, but it would be nice to be able to see something other that Sider Man.
68 A Great Game!!!!
Is a great game for a Spider Man Fan.The game look great.Have a good control, but not a great camera control. But if you love Spider Man you love this game.
69 Doesn't live up to they hype
It's a shame that a game that looks this good plays so badly. The camera controls are very hard to get used to. The gameplay is extremely repetitive, whenever you die you start at the beginning of the level, which gets frustrating very quickly. Even on the easiest level this game is ridiculously hard, and you'll spend hours waiting for the levels to load, and reload. There have been a couple of glitches, ranging from spiderman floating and shaking, to the xbox locking up, and having to be powered down. To wrap it up, a game should be fun, not an exercise in frustration.
70 If spidey himself played it, he would be disoriented
This game is visually breathtaking, has the feeling and edge of Spider-Man, and makes sense based on its progression. Yet it stinks. The controls are awful. It is simply impossible to adapt to the feeling of this game without investing a great deal of time and frustration. And it simply isn't worth it.
71 Never sell This Game
Seriously, this is one of those games you just don't sell because it's so engrossing. You will go to bed dreaming Spider-Man. I totally recommend this game. Everything about it hits the mark and you can unlock Peter Parker, Wrestler Spider-Man (his first costume), Mary Jane (pretty fun seeing her rescue herself with Spidey's voice. Spidey in drag!), or Harry Osborne. Plus Bruce Campbell trains you. Totally worth your dollar.
72 Good Game, Short Life
I rented this game and beat it in 3 hours. I played it on super hero the next day and beat it in 2 hours. The game has great Graphics, good game play. Some unique moves and a great story.
My only complaint is that it was way to short to be a fifty dollor game. Games that are this short should only be twenty dollers. but its all about making money....Even tho its short there is alot of fun stuff to unlock...
Brice out.......
73 Web-slinging fun
I found this game to be excellent. The graphics of New York City are stunning to say the least. The game is worth buying just for the visuals. The gameplay is also fun and offers a variety of excitement. At certain points in the game you have to resort to stealth tactics and avoid being seen, other times it is just an all out battle using your fists, feet, web material and almost anything else. You can pick up objects from the environment and hurl them at the bad guys. It is a great game and anyone would be well-served to give it a try. A definite must buy.
74 Best game EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is the best game ive ever played. Only on xbox u get to verse hunter. This game has alot of excitment. When u first play u use the first suit he uses in the movie. It looks bad but u only use it for two levels
75 Average at Best.
The Graphics are what make this game. But once past that there not really much. I found the Gameplay over all weak. It just got boring. While some of it is a challange. The Boss's are very easy to beat. There are some intresting cheats (like playing as Shocker or green goblin) that give it some re-play value. But bottom line is it's an Average game.
76 SPIDDEE IS A WINNER PERFECT GAME ******
SPIDERMAN THE GAME OR SHOULD I SAY THE MOVIE BECAUSE IT TAKES U THROUGH THE ENTIRE MOVIE WHITCH IS REAL COOL.THE GAME HAS A LEVEL THAT U CAN LITERLLY WATCH THE MOVIE.NOT TO MENTION THE GREAT DETAIL IN PICTURE U GET WITH THIS GAME IS AWSEOME THERE IS NO BAD SHOTS OR MISHAPS THAT I FOUND AND I PLAYED IT FROM FRONT TO END WITHOUT SKIPPING ANY LEVELS.WITH ME WORKING 65 HOURS A WEEK IT TOOK ME TWO WEEKS BUT IT WAS WORTH EVERY MINUTE.THE GREEN GOBLIN IN HIS AIR ATTACKS IS TRICKY BUT CAN BE HANDLED WITH CAUTION THE VULTURE IS A BIG PAIN IN THE U KNOW WHAT FLYING AROUND LIKE A LOST BIRD IS ANNOYING BUT CHALLENGING AT BEST.IF YOUR FORTUNETE ENOUGH TO HAVE AN XBOX YOU WILL ENJOY TWO EXTRA LEVELS WITH THE KRAVEN THAT YOU DO NOT GET ON PS2 OR PC
LAST THAT LEAVES YA WITH SHOCKER AND SCORPIAN WHITCH ARE BOTH AWESOME VILLIANS AND IN GREAT DETAIL AGAIN THE GAMES PICTURE IS PERFECT LEAVING NO FLAWS AT ALL I CAN ONLY HOPE THJE SEQUEL WILL
BE AS GOOD BECAUSE IM ALREADY WAITIN TO PLAY IT...
77 4.5 Stars to be exact....
This is a very good game, but the only problem is some parts in the game are too hard-(and confusing). I like this game, although it does'nt have much replay value after you beat the game, but it does have some. If you REALLY know you'll like it I suggest buying it. If not I suggest trying about 15 minutes of it out in a store for sample or a friends house before you rent or buy to help you make a decision of "to own or to rent"
78 Spiderman, in all his glory.
This game does a great job of immersing you in the world of Spiderman. ALL of his abilities are represented in the game, and you'll be able to use them all seamlessly in only a couple minutes of play. The graphics are pretty good, and the combat system is great. However, your constantly fighting against the camera in this game. I usually just kept the right thumbstick pressed down to keep the camera behind me. Keep in mind, though, this only is a problem in the indoor levels - the outdoor levels simply rock in all departments, including camera.
If you still haven't seen the movie, don't worry, this game doesn't reveal much other then the basic storyline. I played this game before watching the movie, and throughly enjoyed both.
79 o.k
This game is great except for this one problem. Took me maximum 25 minutes to beat the game.
P.S The goblin looks better in the game than he does in the movie.
80 Spiderman Review
This game is simply one of the best games I've played. It's graphics really show off what it can do. You fight the toughest villains on earth like Green Goblin, and Scorpian. What I dislike, is about the camera view. The camera view is sometimes totally confusing, sometimes when you're walking, the camera view suddenly changes. Also, the contrlos are a bit frustrating, especially that if you want to do a web dome or a web ball for instance, you will have to press the triangle and a direction on the analog stick, if you don't press them at the same time, then spiderman will merrily moe in that direction.
The game relates exactly to the movie and that's good. Overall, I'd give this a 9/10.
81 Your "greatest " friendly neighborhood video game
I mean wow! This is one of the best of the games for the begining of the xbox's career. This game keeps you going and it pays off to purchase it. It also has bonusses that are exceptional such as pinhead bowling and being able to play as the green goblin after you beat the game on at least hero difficulty. Purchase and start web slinging.
82 Summed up in a few words...
I can tell you about this game in a few words...if you rent it it's the greatest game ever. However it has no replay value...so I recommend that you don't run out to the store to get one, there are much better games out there.
83 Not bad, worth the money, but not the best I've seen
I came into this game with some-what low expectations, if you're asking yourself why, good, so am I. I played it for a few minutes, which quickly turned into a few hours. As far as the combat system goes, nothing really new or unexpected. No complaints as far as graphics go. I only had 2 real problems with this game:
First, the plot. I can't remember playing a game with a more predictable and obvious plotline, and I never even saw the movie.
Second, web swinging. This is quite possibly the strangest feature they could've put in the game. Anyone who ever watched the cartoon remembers swinging from building. Good. But in this, the webs just go straight up into the sky like there was some kind of ceiling there they were sticking to. You'll feel like an urban Tarzan after about 30 seconds of it. It doesn't really detract from gameplay, except when you're chasing something and you look up at the top of your tv and think "Wait a minute, what am I swining from?" Then it becomes an issue. Two problems, the combat system mostly makes up for them. Rent it first, I ended up buying it, but save yourself the $50 just in case you don't like it.
84 Good Game, worthy of the Spidey Legacy.
Just to let anyone reading this review know; I do not own this game I went cheap and rented it. So the scale of stars is for renting not owning. With that out of the way, I think Spider-Man is a good little game that looks very good on the Xbox. I heard it has better graphics than the other systems and a bonus level with Kraven the Hunter. Well this is all true, the game looks very good and plays pretty well. The cut scenes are awesome and stay very true to the characters. Plus the levels you play in switch it up enough so your not just constantly bashing things. There are actualy legit goals you have to accomplish and some are much harder than others.
There is also a neat training mode where Bruce Campbell, of Evil Dead fame, directs you on the different things you can do with Spider-Man. Plus with his voicing you actually get all the actors voices from the movie coming out as well. These include tobey McGuire, sorry probably butchered his last name spelling wise, and William Dafoe.
All in all this is a good little game, that for the most part is challenging and has alot to offer mode wise when it comes to training and dinking around. The game play is good, and easy to figure out; although the camera angles screw you over once in a while. Only downfall I see to the game is it is not very long, and a bit easy to get through. But there are challenges and secret areas to find in each level, minus the boss levels of course, that do make it highly playable again. So go out and rent this one at least web-heads. It's worth it.
85 AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
This game is the best game I've played on the X-Box since "HALO".
Play as Spider Man in HUGE interactive stages. Swing through skyscrapers in different acrobatic styles! It's GREAT FUN!!
86 Best Action Game Out!!!
This game is off the hizook. The graphics and the gameplay really bring out the suspense and it just draws you in.
87 Spider-Man, Spider-Man...
Well, this game is good. The graphics are good and it is fun. But the down side is the camera. I found it too confusing to control Spidey. I prefer the control of Halo or Max Payne to this game, which reminds me dreadfully of Resident Evil's.If you like Spider-Man get this game. The animation is good and the extras to unlock are fun...a little for the adult minded, but fun indeed.
I found that my TV had too much red and had a halo like haze around him, but after some adjustments I was able to be happy about it.
88 Keepin' Your Spin!
Awesome! Need I say more. The graphics on the game are mastered on Xbox with amazing scenes that make you feel like you are actually there. The storyline keeps you on your toes and couldn't be better. Plenty of levels that are loaded with hours of fun. This game is definitely a 'must have'! It's worth every penny.
89 DO NOT BUY THIS GAME
All of that hype for a piece of garbage like this is absolutely ridiculous. I bought this game the other day, and it is so not fun. I sure hope the movie is better than the game. If you want to buy this game, rent it first, you will not want to buy it afterwards.
90 Great Game with HUGE REPLAY VALUE
This is a great game and is probably one of the niest looking games on xbox right now. The game only takes five inutes to get used to and in the game you can get mini-games like spider-man bowling, and after you beat it on the two hardest settings you can play as the Green Goblin which is even more fn then playing as spider-man
91 One of the Best Superhero Games
I have eagerly anticipated the Spider-Man game for about two months now, and I'm not disappointed at all.The game is supposedly loosely based on the movie, although they've thrown a few wrinkles in, like adding supervillains Shocker, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and Scorpion, in addition to the Green Goblin. Tobey Maguire is the voice of Spider-Man and Willem Dafoe is the Green Goblin, with Bruce Campbell voicing the "tour guide", who explains how things work in the game.
The gameplay is very well done. Spider-Man moves just like he does in the movie previews. Fights are well done, especially the boss battles, which are unpredictable and difficult, but not impossible. The control scheme, even the "enhanced" version, is easy to master and use. The only problem is that, occasionally, when you're crawling on a wall, Spider-Man won't go the way you want him to. Also, you constantly have to readjust the camera so that you can see what you're doing. The one other complaint is that certain "stealth" missions are almost impossible to stay stealthy in.
The game is absolutely stunning to look at, especially the outdoor areas. The cityscapes are huge and highly detailed. You can't tell the difference between foreground and background. The enemy characters are also highly detailed and look as real as the main characters. There is also no hint of slowdown at all.
The music in the game is also excellent. I'm not sure, but I think it comes straight from the movie. Most of the voice acting is top-notch, especially Dafoe's Green Goblin. Unfortunately, the exception is Maguire as Spider-Man. He's extremely low-key and at times seems like he's disinterested completely. Making up for that is some snappy writing, especially the trademark Peter Parker sarcasm.
Overall, the game is exceptionally well done. There are little problems that only slightly lessen the experience. The bonuses they included also make this a worthwhile investment. I'd recommend to any Spider-Fan or action game fan.
92 What a waste of hype!
Well, I bought Spider-man: The Movie for X-box. I saw some previews in magazines and thought it looked pretty good. On the contrary, it withheld the long running chain of awful movie based games that are obviously just the company's excuse to score some cash off a big name. The camera angles are so annoying, it makes you want to throw up. There are glitches everywhere, like the fact that bosses get caught jumping of ledges and float in mid air while twitching spazmatically. The plot is so ugly, it feels like you are doing these missions for no apparent reason. Also, spider-man uses the same catch phrases over and over. It doesn't help that they're not funny, either. It's so short I beat it in one night, despite its tedious level design and boss fights. Overall, I'll give this game 2 stars because it has spider-man in it. Otherwise, it's the worst X-box game I've seen yet.
93 Spider-Man
i bought this game today and i have to agree with the reviews i ready about it that its great besides the camera angles and the controls. the graphics are incredible. definately rent this game before buying but i would highly recommend renting it.
94 Take to the skies as Spider-Man and enter the Spidey Frenzy!
I cannot describe how much anticipation this game has got, but whatever enormous amount it had, it deserved every bit of it. I am considering it the greatest thing to come along since Halo, and we all know how cool Halo was to watch and play. Spidey on Xbox is the ultimate edition with no question except the Gamecube
can somewhat compare, but the Xbox has 2 exclusive levels with Kraven, so go figure. The story-line is awesome, Tobey and Willem's characters look just like them, and they also provide the voices as well. Spider-Man looks cool and so does the Goblin. The controls are easy and very compatible to just pick up and play, and the environments are gorgeous. Swinging along you may here a citizen down below give you the super hero treatment in the form of "Hey it's Spider-Man" or "Look at him, dad!", and Spidey always has a response of course with humor to match. Spidey moves like he does in comics, and has some nifty combos. This is the definitive version, and the best super-hero game and the one to get for any system, oh yeah, pick up the guide too!
95 Excellent SuperHero Game
WOW!! This game is AMAZING. The feeling of swinging through Metropolis is incredible. The gameplay, effects, and lighting are excellent. Playing this game on a 32 inch Sony Vega with Component Monster Cables, is a Dream. It did take a few hours of training to get the skills down, however this is a blast in itself. Once you feel you are ready to be Spidey, play SuperHero Mode and this game will keep even the most avid gamer challenged. The colors and lighting effects alone will have you just hanging out on a building gazing at the landscape. Being a fan of Comic Books, it's a treat to finally have them come to life in true form. BUY THIS GAME.
96 Spider man
This game is a fun game with alot of action and web shooting. The story line is just okay, and the talking between charter and charter is okay. But the game has some cool villians you get to beat up. The best part is when you string up a your emeny and just watch them yell your their lives. If i would you, just rent this game like i have and not buy it, too easy. Save your money for first person shooting games.
97 Excellent game.
I'm not even a huge Spider-Man fan, but this game is highly entertaining. The training missions alone, guided by the voice of non-other than Bruce Campbell himself, are fun. Using the voices of Willem DaFoe and Tobie Maquire for the game is also a nice bonus. I've only had the game for 2 days, but I can't wait to get back home and get back to it! Also, from all the reviews I've read, the XBox version has enough little built in bonuses to keep other systems at arms reach. Definitely a showcase game.
98 Simply "AMAZING"...
It has taken quite some time for this game to hit the open market, and finally it arrived... and it was worth every penny. Everything from the graphics and gameplay to the music makes this game worth your money. I am not a person that likes watching the "cinema transition scenes," but the graphics simply pull you in. The transition scenes are fairly straight forward (they don't last FOREVER like some games), plus you can skip through them once you have seen them. For those gamers that might be intimidated by the controls of the game, the training modes that are avaiable prepare you for every aspect of the game. I would have to say that a negative aspect of the game is that "exploration" is limited in each of the levels. It would be nice if you could just web sling around in the environment more than is allowed, but do not let that change you mind about the game. Another must see aspect of the game is the utilization of the spider sense, in some areas when your spider sense tingles, the player is taken through a dreamlike sequence toward the origin of the threat. So in closing... Pros: Graphics: (ex: window reflection on the buildings)
Gameplay: (different fighting/web maneuvers)
Music: (the music simply contributes to the experience)
Training Mode: Prepares ANYONE for the actual game
Cons: Limited environment exploration
Some corny dialogue
I cannot speak for all gamers, but this game met all of my expectatons, and I have not even made it through the entire game yet. It should be a part of any video game collection regardless of the type of system you own.
99 Spider Man Review
My son and I picked up our copy the day it came out. (4/17/2002) It's overall a very good game with impressive graphics. The actual gameplay takes about 15 minutes to get used to. Once you do you will notice it's easy to move around and fight. I was concerned how they would handle the actual webslinging but it is very well done. Some of the reflections on the buildings are just amazing. It is rated 'E' and has no objectionable content for younger players other then beating up on the bad guys. In typical Spiderman fashion, no one really dies but rather just disappears. There is also no blood splattering from what I can tell.
I would suggest Spiderman to anyone that likes an action adventure game. It's a good buy.
100 Green Goblin after you knock him off his glider.....
Green Goblin is really hard to fight once you knock him off his glider.... he has alot of combo breakers not to mention he likes to toss you around like a rag doll and does a great 3 hit combo followed by a axe kick...... when you play him i suggest using cannon ball attack... aka swing at him with a swing kick ;)later
