1 about the movie street fighter.......
One of the lose out films with comparision to time cop, blood sport, sudden death and lionheart. the advise is to avoid this and wait for his next release.

2 Not the worst...but still preety bad
There are worse movies based on games out there in the world but not a whole hell of a lot.

The plot-generic good guys versus bad guys

The acting-this is where I think the movie makes up for itself. I both like it and hated it. I liked it when you could tell that the actors were doing their job tounge and check not taking it seriously. In that way the movie is almost like a comedy.

I hated it when the actors were trying to be dramatic.

Overall-A bad film but not the worst film. Bad acting but sometimes hilarious acting and there are a few great quotes.
3 Er...I liked it...
I know you must think I'm a real idiot to have liked this movie, but that's the truth.
Sure, the storyline wasn't anything special, but the director had some skills, and the actor that played Bison was great.
Also, you must admit, the movie had smart dialogues.I mean, you remember the funny quotes in the movie, right?Right?
Ok,I'll shut up now. :)
4 The worst movie that I had to buy
Street Fighter the movie is probobly one of the worst movies ever made. It is for this reason that I couldn't resist buying it. Everything about this movie is so over the top that it is at least worth watching once. If your in the right mind set it can be very intertaining but don't expect any serious acting or any hardcore action it this film. If you haven't seen it you should at least rent it.
5 A Classic for the Ages!
There's so much to be said about this fantastic movie. For one, I'm a pretty good Street Fighter myself. My Sodom will own you! Secondly, please watch this movie with every hope and aspiration that it will be as exciting and fulfilling as the game itself. This way the look of disappointment on your face will be that much more dramatic. Hahaha!!

I can't stress how horrific it is to watch this movie the first time through. You'll cringe at the fact that everything that couldn've gone wrong with this movie, did in fact go wrong. The story is just so mixed up, not that Street Fighter had a solid story line to begin with, but good gracious. You want a decent story line in a fighting game, play King of Fighters. In any case, it's a horrible experience...the first time.

Now that you've gone through the worst part, you'll start to think it over in your head and realize how incredibly funny this movie is after all. It's soooo bad, that you can't help but laugh at how ridiculous this film is; the bad story, the bad acting, it never stops. Hence, the fun never ends!! This movie is cheap to buy, but provides a lifetime of laughs. There are too many memorable moments in this movie to mention, but let me just say it's worth every Bison buck you spend on it! Enjoy.
6 Aweful
At the height of Jean Claude Van Damme's career, he signed on to star in this stinker. I'm pretty sure the producers knew the end product was going to stink, so they put in Jean to pull in the marginal amount of fans who liked watching the former dancer strut his fighting prowess. They didn't even care that the character he was playing was supposed to be an American military officer, not a Bielgen soldier in the UN police force.

The one I really feel sorry for is Raul Julia, a very distingushed actor who was obviously hornswaggled, or drugged, or possibly bribed, by a very good pitch person, into playing the role of the villian. Sadly this was his last role before passing on, is there no justice in the world?

I can understand it was probably very hard to get all these characters together for one story line instead of it being about just a street fight. But someone must have been able to pull something better out of their collective...rear ends.

Thankfully Mortal Kombat came along later and showed them how it's done...and then pulled the same tragedy later with Mortal Kombat Armegeddon.

In the effort to make a methodical story out of the madness of a video game, one must realize it is apparently a hit and miss endeavor. And in many cases it seems, it may be an endeavor better left in the video arcade.
7 Not one thing right in this movie...
Ok, here we go. Grab a snack cause I'm gonna be bashing on this movie for awhile. Ok, where do I begin? The movie was horrible. That took off. Now. When this came out, I was a hardcore Street Fighter fan (hell, I still am. Fighting games are my life)and when I looked up online to see the reviews, I heard nothing good at all. So I decided not to waste my money on going to the theatres. So then when it comes out for video, I rent it. And I was sad to say, those reviews were right. Let's begin on what they did wrong, shall we?

1. Jean Claude Van Damm - I used to be a big fan on Van Damm in his very successful movies like Bloodsport and Timecop. But recently, his movies were bad. And then they give him the roll as the American soilder, Guile. Now, firstly, Guile is American. Van Damm is French. Smart move there guys. Secondly, Guile wasn't even the main character in the game. It was Ryu and Ken. Thirdly, Van Damm hardly even looked like Guile. Van Damm had a crew cut in the movie while the real Guile has something like a flat top hairdo. And lastly, Guile was a captain. Not a clonial.

2. Storyline - The storyline wasn't not even close to the game's storyline. Ryu and Ken in the game, are martial artist who grew up together living in the same dojo with their master, Gouken. They train every day. In the movie, they're weapon dealers and are brothers. Wow, quite different. And also, I recall Ryu being somewhat like a Bruce Lee wannabe. I mean, he'd always ended up needing to take off his shirt and fight with only his pants on and even getting cuts on his chest by Vega (Balrog in Japan). Sagat is supposed to be a Muay Thai fighter known all over the world who lost to Ryu and was scarred by his Shoryuken. In the movie, Sagat is Ryu and Ken's dealer who ends up trying to kill Ryu and Ken cause he got screwed over by them. Chun Li in the game is an Interpol officer searching for M. Bison (Vega in Japan)cause he killed her father. In the movie, she's a news reporter...wow...anyway, Honda and Balrog/M. Bison are her crew in the movie. In the game, Honda is a Japanese Sumo wrestler. In the movie, he's some fat hawaiian camera man. Balrog/ Bison, in the game, is one of M. Bison/Vega's body guards and is a BAD GUY. In the movie, however, he's apart of Chun Li's news crew and is a GOOD GUY. Cammy, in the game, was once being controlled by Bison/Vega but gained her memory and is now apart of Red Delta. In the movie, she's Guile's lover (which I remember in the game, Guile has a wife and a daughter)and is apart of the army with Guile. I'm probably boring all of you to death from the horrific things of this movie.

3. Horrible fights - Street Fighter is mainly about fighting. Well, I hardly found any fighting in this movie. And the fighting that was in this movie stunk. And the saddest part of all....no special moves.....That's what made Street Fighter unique. Specials. But, where's the hadoukens? Shoryukens? Tatsumaki Senpukyakus? Sonic Booms? Nope. Nadah. Nothing at all.

Bottom line: Movie is horrible. Don't even bother trying to see this movie.
8 WORST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!
I know it was probably meant to be a spoof of Street Fighter II but it wasn't even that funny! As far as action goes, it was garbage! Even the Mortal Kombat films were funnier than this PLUS it had good action!

If you want to see a good Street Fighter film, please get the Animated movie! True, some will like this one anyway but I believe if its going to be a spoof, at least make it funny. This wasn't neither exciting nor humorous in my opinion.

9 This movie still around?
Nope no reviews for this movie. just another painful experience
10 Laughing at most reviewers
This movie ranks as one of my favourite films I have ever seen. I have watched the film over 7 times over the past month and have still enjoyed the work. Reason?
People keep viewing this film as a serious VidGame-to-film adaptation. It isn't. This film has a creative license, which has it's own storyline, with a few "game" ideas thrown in. This film isn't supposed to be a serious action flick. It's a light-hearted action spoof, which is meant to entertain the humourful.
I disagree with 99% of all reviews i have read all around the internet, in which to say that this movie doesn't suck. People just can't see it for what it really is - a spoof, not unlike Hot-Shots (albeit, not so obvious).
Raul Julia is the best, and from what i feel, the Bison I'd imagine to be. Mad, self-opinionated, and damn sure of himself. So sure that he can still joke.
People need to stop viewing this film as a straight forward VidGame-to-film adaptation. This is a film, with Street Fighter characters and a couple of Street Fighter backgrounds. I could guaruntee that if all the characters were given different names, people would be complaining that "it was a street fighter ripoff".
Take my advice - give the film a go, and view it as a spoof. Something just to laugh at, and not taken seriously. Once you master that, you may begin to see why i love this film so much
11 Parallel Universe?
The end of Raul Julia's esteemed career is startlingly similar to the late, great Orson Welles'.

"Street Fighter," a movie based on a toy/video game, was Mr. Julia's final film. He plays Bison, a maniacal super-villain with anti-gravity boots and delusions of godhood.

Orson Welles' last appearance (at least, his voice) was "Transformers: the Movie," based on a toy/cartoon. He played Unicron, a maniacal super-villain planet (generating his own gravity) and delusions of godhood.

Unicron is destroyed by the Autobot Matrix. Bison is destroyed in a fight-scene reminiscent of "the Matrix."

The Autobot girl Arcee, played by Susan Blu, is hot (if you're into that sort of thing). The female Street Fighter Cammy, played by Kylie Minogue, is hot (if you're into that sort of thing).

One of the Street Fighter heroes, Guile, has an annoying French-sounding accent. One of the Autobot heroes, Wheelie, is annoying (and may be French).

I can watch "TF:TM" over and over again. Hmm....I guess the similarities end there.

12 Pathetic
INTRODUCTION:
In America in the early nineties, Street Fighter games became the most popular fighting games out there. Although the series never quite achieved the same successes here that it did in Japan, its country of origin, it did do very well here, and in the mid-nineties, a movie based on the game series was released. This was a LIVE ACTION film, not an animated one. Read on for my review of Street Fighter.

BASIC PLOT:
The basic plot goes something like this. An army man (Jean-Claude Van-Damme) must gather together a group of troups to take on a terrorist leader (Raul Julia) who has taken a number of hostages captive, and claims he will murder them unless he receives a huge sum of cash.

FILM OPINIONS:
Movies based on video games usually fail horribly, and this one is no exception. The number of inaccuracies to the video games can't be summed up in a single review, but I'm going to try my best. First of all, the film implies that Blanka was once Charlie, Guile's old partner. This is DEAD WRONG. In the games, Charlie died before the Street Fighter II games began, and Blanka was previously a human named Jimmy. Next of all, Bison is supposed to have superhuman strength and abilities. Not true here. The film depicts him as more of a standard terrorist. This is a shame, because Raul Julia's acting is good (it's a shame be died just after this film was released.) Another major inaccuracy is that they made Chun Li a REPORTER! This is not supported by ANY of the games. Also the film never brings up the "Cammy used to be in love with Bison" subplot that the games have hinted at. And let's not forget the lack of fireballs and special attacks. This wasn't as bad a "game to movie" adaptation as, say, Super Mario Bros., but it was pretty bad nonetheless.

DVD:
The film makers tried to compensate for their making a horrible film by adding a ton of special features. Some of the special features, like the deleted scenes, were actually good idea (I think EVERY movie on DVD should have deleted scenes.) The other extras are good too, but they don't make up for the movie itself.

OVERALL:
What more is there to be said? This movie is horrible. Hopefully this taught film makers a lesson - you NEVER make movies based on video games!

13 MUST READ!!!!
I dont know about everybody else but this movie was AWESOME! Maybe because I watched it when I was little but i LOVED IT! AWESOME!!!
14 Okay, it's got a story and will keep kids watching
I really think Dolph Lundgren(The Punnisher, Rocky 4, Universal Soldier) would have been better as Guile. He even looks like the video game character. But Van Damme's name will sell. Okay fine. The movie has goofy acting, sets, costumes, lines, etc. But it's a complete movie and I felt it deserves 3 stars.
15 whats with the bad reviews?? this movie was good
i can't understand why so many people disliked streetfighter but i enjoyed it very much as i love the video games, the comedy fitted in well in the movie and the story was pretty good and not as complex like mortal kombat as well as the action was spot on.
16 THIS WORKED OUT A LOT BETTER IN THE VIDEO GAMES
AN ARMY COLONEL [VAN DAMME] MUST TAKE ACTION AGAINST A RUTHLESS DICTATOR [RAUL JULIA] WHO HAS KIDNAPPED INNOCENT PEOPLE AND HELD THEM FOR RANSOM. THIS MOVIE, WHICH IS BASED ON THE VIDEO GAMES OF THE SAME NAME, IS VERY UNEVEN. VAN DAMME ACTUALLY MAKES A GREAT CHOICE FOR THE ROLE OF COL. GUILE. BUT RAUL JULIA LOOKS OUT OF PLACE AS BISON. MUCH OF THE MOVIE IS POINTLESS AND BORING. MOST OF THE ACTION IS CORNY AND MUCH OF THE ACTING IS BAD. I SHOWED A LITTLE MERCY ON THIS MOVIE BECAUSE OF ITS GOOD FINALE. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, THIS WAS ONE CORNY ACTION FLICK. I THINK THIS STUFF WORKED OUT A LOT BETTER IN THE VIDEO GAMES. VAN DAMME AND RAUL JULIA ARE THE SOLE SAVIORS OF THIS MOVIE. THIS WAS RAUL JULIA'S LAST MOVIE. RAUL DIED IN 1995.
17 Ah! DON'T change the channel!
Street Fighter is one of my favorite movies but is sooo short it makes me wish there was more to it. The plot is sort of wacky and cartoonish, too. Major Bison (Raul Julia) has created a new force of evil called Bison troopers and has captured a number of soldiers and nurses from the Allied Nations. The goofy part is that he is holding them ransom for $20,000,000,000 and they have three days to live. If you're gonna do that, ya might as well kill them or ask for world domination! You'll never get that much! At the same time, he has taken Colonel Guile's-AN soldier-(Jean-Claude Van Damme) friend and attempted to turn him into a killing monster. Guile, angrily and vengefully, goes to recover the hostages and kick son of a bi***'s Bison's a** so hard the next Bison wannabe will feel it (quote Colonel Guile). There are so many other turns in the plot that makes it fun to watch. Its also got lots of comedy and action/adventure to rock the genre. Rent it first since it is a movie that only certain people have taste for.
18 STREET FIGHTER - - COLLECTOR'S EDITION
Have anybody encounter any problem with this DVD ? All the new generation DVD PLAYER including THE HIGH END MODEL , can't play this title .

My old PIONEER PLAYER can only play this title . I recently bought a new copy but the problem still the same .

STREET FIGHTER suppose to be a big hit for VAN DAMME but end up being the biggest flop movie . Director STEVEN E.DESOUZA seem have lost his direction . Even the anime is much better than the live action . Why can't they shoot this movie with a serious script , minus the comedy part & made the action scene more reliastic . IS A LIVE ACTION MOVIE , NOT AN ANIME MOVIE .

19 FREAKIN DVD
I BOUGHT THE STREET FIGHTER DVD SEVERAL TIMES THIS PAST YEAR AND NOT ONE OF THESE DVDS
WORKED. i WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR DVD.
20 A guilty pleasure Flick
Street Fighter is one of those movies that really ticked off fans, especially if they are fans of the anime areas as well. The plot here is that M. Bison (Raul Julia in his final performance on the big screen) is out to conquer the world in his own demented way. With his allies being Sagat, Vega, Zangief, and Dee Jay he and his army are out to rule the World. TO oppose him Captain Guile (Jean Claude Van Damm) leads the army that will bring him down. With his top two ranking officers Cammy and T. Hawk they team up with Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Balrog, and E. Honda as they all battle the forces of evil.

The reason I love this so much is because of how campy it is. Raul Julia steals the show as his over he top performance as Bison, the psycho path who believes in the Warriors code, but just wants world peace. In fact this movie holds one of the all time greatest villian lines ever "For you the day Bison destroyed your town may have been the most devestating day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday." Classic campy dialouge that makes Raul Julia etched in my mind forever in this movie. This is a guilty pleasure, it's campy and cheesey, but over all a fun movie to watch.

21 Hard to mess up...but they did
Street Fighter 2 was the ultimate video game at the time of this movies release. The game was simple, you pick a fighter which will challenge other fighters in one on one combat.

The game had great characters and simple concept, yet the movie didn't understand that. Instead of hiring great fighters and getting some great fight choreography, they decided to add a "bad guy trying to take over the world concept."

Street Fighter video game also had many charcters, and instead of just using maybe 8 of the characters, like Mortal Kombat the movie did, they decided to squeeze as many characters into the movie as they could. Then worst of all, the did not have a single street fight in the movie, other than the Guile (Van Damme) vs. Bison (Julia) fight in the end, which is mostly comical, since Raul Julia looks like he can't even through a punch.

BAD MOVIE!!!

22 BEST VIDEO GAME MOVIE
LOTS OF ACTION FOLLOWS THE GAME WELL AND BISONS BAD BAD BAD. JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME IS GREAT IN HERE HE'S A COLL GUY VERY COOLMOVIE SEE IT
23 THE BEST
AWSOME LOTS OF ACTION COOL SPECIAL EEFECTS AND BISONS REALLY FREAKY AND ILOVE HIS COSTUME
24 So bad it's almost funny
I gave this movie 1 star only because I couldn't give it none. I mean, when you talk about bad movies, you have to mention all-time classics Nightmare on Elmstreet 6, Jaws 4, and Jurassic Park 3. But this movie creates a whole new category of "bad movies".

The acting was so terrible and absurd that at times it was funny. Never-the-less, figuring there might actually be some entertaining combat scenes in this movie, I watched it through. Wrong. No note-worthy combat scenes. You'll find better fighting scenes on the numerous Chuck Norris movies, Jackie Chang movies, Mortal Combat, Highlander, and even Xena Warrior Princess.

This is the kind of movie that's so bad that you're embarassed to tell people you've watched it. Let's list its vices: no intelligible plot, other than madman plans for world-domination (yea, they haven't made movies about that before); acting was mediocre at best, terrible at worst; action scenes were boring; fight scenes were boring and ridiculous. So you know how stupid this movie was, there was actually one scene where Captain Crunch (sorry, I can't be bothered to remember the name of the insane evil warlord) pressed big bright red buttons -- that looked like the buttons on a game-console -- to detonate underwater mines.

This is a movie where someone should have pulled the plug before it got off the ground. I would be ashamed to have my name attached to this trash. Indeed, it was such a bad movie that I was embarassed to watch it -- and I was all by myself when I watched it.

This is the kind of movie where you actually feel like your IQ has been lowered after watching it. Don't waste your money buying the DVD for this junk. Instead, spend that same money buying a copy of a fighting game, like Tekken, or one more recent. You'll have a much better time.

25 Van Dissapointment
After Van Damme set sail in Timecop,a box-office smash his career was exactly where it needed to be.I thought only his flicks could get better, but after Streetfighter I thought differently. He should of let Stallone take the job, just like Judge Dredd,Streetfighter is a video game movie type disaster.Van Dammes acting was rusty and his fight scenes looked like special effect errors that needed to be edited. Now with it on DVD the price makes the movie look great, but in reality it's garbage.I personally love Van Dammes hard hitting action flicks, and I ain't putting him down personally but this movie has serious problems and a headache of a storyline.
26 you don't like this movie, ...
Abosolutely Van Dame's best. Need I discuss the plot? No, the fact that Van Damme's in it would be enough if the movie did NOT have a story, but this one pits him against a warlord who wants to achieve total global Domination and wants [money] friggin' bucks for the release of hostages. This is one of the best action movies, and Martial Arts movies I've ever seen, but it's too bad there hasn't been a sequel.....yet.
27 you don't like this movie, than go to ...
Abosolutely Van Damee's best. Need I discuss the plot? No, the fact that Van Damme's in it would be enough if the movie did NOT have a story, but this one pits him against a warlord who wants to achieve total global Domination and wants $20 billion ... bucks for the release of hostages. This is one of the best action movies, and Martial Arts movies I've ever seen, but it's too bad there hasn't been a sequel.....yet.
28 Van Damme Cool
After seeing THIS movie, I'm convinced that no movie based on video game will ever surpass this magnificent work of art. Van Damme is Guile, an "Allied Nations" commando (the U.N. threatened to sue if they were depicted in this movie) who is up against Ego-Manaical warlord General Bison (Raul Julia, who died shortly after production. The self proclaimed dictator of the (fictitous)nation of shadaloo, hellbent on ruling the world. He's also hell bent on being super rich, and has taken 63 hostages. He'll only swap 'em for $20 billion, and Guile is on the scene immediately. Martial Arts movies, video game movies, and even Van Damme movies are rarely this good. Your'e cheating yourself if you think it's not worth checking out. Trust me, it is.
29 Nothing Like the video games!
Like my title says nothing like the video games! I thought its supposed to be about Ryu abd Ken! But no its about Bison and his team of bad guys trying to take over the world and Captin Guile has to take his army to stop him before time runs out. But Ryu and Ken are in the flim but look nothing like the video game. They are not the main characters! Other Street Fighters make it in to the movie like Cammy,Vega,Sagat,Blanka,Chun-Li,and more! There is no good special effects like Mortal Kombat but some good fight scenes are in the flim. To much talking which you should skip because they are BORING! They should remake this and make it better! I would reccomed Mortal Kombat movies. Have Fun!
30 It's not a total loss
This isn't one of them!
It's not the action sequences or the acting that bothered me. It was the plot; a military showdown between Col. Guile (Van Damme)and Gen. Bison (Raul Julia). Maybe if it were an actual street fighter tournament hosted by Bison, maybe it could've been better. It would certainly put Van Damme in his element. But like I said, it wasn't a total loss. The ziggers in the movie were hilarious, it had a popular cast and Raul Julia portrays a tryanical madman very well. If you have cable, you can see it on USA or the SCI-FI channel. Otherwise, I would skip this one. Oh, by the way, Ming-Na Wen from Mulan is in this movie.
31 [Bad] is too good a word for this piece of [poop]
When I first saw the previews for this movie a while back I thought it might be good. Than I rented it and I was hoping to be right. I was wrong. DEAD WRONG!!! This movie literally ... Anyone who's given this movie 5 stars or even 4 stars are probably smoking the same stuff that the writers for this garbage were smoking. As pretty much everyone who is a hardcore fan of the video game know that this story revolves around the heros Ryu & Ken, not Guile. Van Damme hasnt done any good movies since "Timecop". It's a shame the late Raul Julia had to waste his talent on this movie. He must be rolling over in his grave. It was also nice to see the writers combine 2 characters into 1 (We get the delightful combination of "Charlie Nash" & Jimmy"Blanka" into "Charles Blanka", nice move guys. Blanka looked more like a reject from the "Incredible Hulk" series. The fight scenes were some of the lamest I've ever seen and the dialogue was even worst. If you wanna a "true" Street Fighter" movie just watch "Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie" and also check out "Street Fighter IIV" series. Avoid this movie at all cost.
32 Eh...
I didn't even know there was a live action version of Street Fighter until I purchased Street Fighter 2 for PC, and this movie along with a computer gamepad was included "free" with the game. The gamepad was worth it, but the movie..well... free is still a little stiff.I give it two stars, and that's being generous. I admire the producers drive to want to make Street Fighter into a live action movie. I really do, but there were so many things wrong it with that I don't know where to even start.

Well first of all (a bit of repetition ahead), everything was backwards. I can't even say backwards; they just stuck people in roles the producer wanted them. Ryu a hustler? Not hardly. And Vega hispanic instead of Spanish? Don't think so. They had a cast full of notable actors, but 1.) many of them were not suited for the role (first thought that comes to mind is Wes Studi -most notable for playing Geronimo- playing Sagat), and/or 2.) their true talent was suppressed (such as Ming-Na who played Chun Li).

I don't want to continue with this rant because I know I'll end up spoiling the movie for those who haven't seen it (as if I hadn't already). So to sum it all up, they had the potential and the actors (for some of the roles), but everything went downhill from there. I wouldn't recommend buying this movie, but if you're looking for something to humor you then this is it.

33 It barely lived up to what we were hoping for
Street Fighter was one of those movies based on popular video games like Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider but the movie was 1.too cartoony (costumes look good in video games, stupid in real life), 2.Character profiles didn't fit (Balrog a good guy, Guile the hero and Dalsim as a scientist) and 3.the Bison base was a little cheesy, the Bison hover "Thing" and the stealth boat were so [unreal] and impossible but the movie was not bad but it wasn't good either. the only thing that bugs me about it is its price ...
34 Street Fighter
This was the worst movie I've ever seen. STREET FIGHTER went above, beyond and totally backwards from the story lines of the series, and let's face it the cast did the series no justice.

Let's start out with your basics on why you shouldn't see this movie. Jean Claude Van Damme is Guile, why?!?! I'm sorry but Guile is not a greasy, special army ranger guy with a Belgian accent. Guile is a little more simple than that, try just another Air Force recruit. The story is just completely off. Every story line in the Street Fighter series has been ignored and new very poorly thought out story lines have been made.

That and no true martial artists (aside from Van Damme) were casted. Wes Studi as Sagat? Damian Chapa as Ken? Raul Julia (RIP) as Bison? Meng Na Wen as Chun Li? I think not. What does this all add up to? Poorly choreographed, very fake fight scenes that are over in a hit or 2.

Not worth it at all. If you want to check out a good Street Fighter, check out STREET FIGHTER II the ANIMATED MOVIE. It's much better, stays to the storylines and the action is 50 times better than the action in this.

35 One Word.BORING!
This movie is boring.I feel like falling asleep when I watch this movie. The fights are long and short at the same time. They got the wrong people to play these great characters.I am very dissapointed!

36 Great if you want a Comedy - God aweful otherwise.
I thouroughly enjoyed this movie because it made me laugh on many occasions. i came to watch this movie expecting an action thriller, but left knowing that this was a comedy, no matter what the original intention was; Case and point - Chun Li decides to sneak into the morgue to take a look at Guiles body to decide if he's really dead. the problem is is taht its 4PM in the afternoon and she is in full black and trying to sneak around. no one notices her untill she takes off her ski mask. pure comedy.
37 street fighter
Street fighter is a bad film! In the original story,Ryu and Ken
were the main characters. In this film,Guile,a military grunt with
an impressive reputation, takes the lead. Most of the actors for chosen for the roles of the fighters are perfect for the parts. Blanka was not perfect.Too bad it was not a CGI CHARACTER.I bet
that if it was made by someone who was competent, it would be a better film with a better script.
38 Low-rent action doesn't mix with subpar karate...
Raul Julia's last film keeps itself alive using his performance as the bad guy. "Street Fighter" is a cheekishly bright kids movie based on the hit video game, although the plot and characters are very different. The violence is very stylized and almost slapstick. The humor here is arid, missing any form of timing or wit. Most of the movie just falls flat on its butt. It's not the worst video-game movie ever, but it's really not that good. I do, however, reccommend it to kids who are into karate. They might get a "kick" out of this... get it? Kick? Sorry about that one. At least it was better than the jokes in "Street Fighter."
39 I don't know where to begin
Being an avid Street Fighter fan, I was outraged at how ridiculously bad this movie was when I saw it in a theater all those yeras ago. First off I want to set something straight, the original storyline in Street Fighter revolved completely around Ryu and Ken, who were reduced to supporting characters in the film to make Guile the lead, only Guile was the one who was a supporting character originally (I guess they couldn't find a different role for Jean-Claude Van Damme though). Second, some of the roles they have reversed for the characters, Balrog was a bad guy who worked for Bison, not a good guy, and Dee Jay was a good guy as well. Now onto the movie itself. Everything about this film is horrid, the acting is ridiculously bad as is the dialogue which sounds like it was written by an overzealous third grader, and the costumes were laughable. The late Raul Julia is here in his last film role, and it's a shame that this was his last film considering how great an actor he was. Van Damme is mind nummingly dull, and other actors who are usually good; Ming-Na (Chun-Li, she voiced Aki in the Final Fantasy movie) and Wes Studi (Sagat) are plain dull as well. All in all, even if you are a die hard hardcore Street Fighter fan, you will be repulsed by this dismal live action movie. A little side note: present day pop superstar Kylie Minogue plays the rather sexy Cammy, one good point of this film.
40 I love the game ... but the movie is horrid
WARNING MOVIE MAY INDOUSE UNCONTROLABLE VOMITING TO ANY BODY WHO HAS AN OUNCE OF TASTE IN THERE ENTIRE BODY.Why do you ask?
I haved saved you the trouble of reading some of the longer reviews and made you a list:
1]Vann Damme is an empty shell of his former self
2]The dialouge could have been writen by a 2 year old stricken with aurthrightis(Im sure i spelled that wrng but im on a rant and cant be stopped)
3]The 2nd worst movie ever filmed(2nd to Kung-pow:enter the fist)
4]The acting is so brittle it would shater if flicked.
I could go on all day but that would prevent other people from reading my package of wisdom and they would fall prey tho this ...
41 Could Have been Better
Street Fighter could have been better I thought Jean-Cluade Van Damme would be the star but no and it could have more action in it,I think it desevre a 3 instead of 5 stars. Also it could have been a little bit anime like the animated series then it would have been better-I think anime is better so get it
42 Raul Julia's last movie
I had never played any street fighter games until I saw this movie. Plus, I do not usually compare movies based on the video games that inspire them because most of the time the plots are not similar to each other. I found Street Fighter to be a decent action flick. Sure, I have seen beter based-on-video-game movies with martial arts action (Mortal Kombat), but Street Fighter wasn't just terrible like some reviewers say. I'll agree that the acting wasn't all that great. However, Raul Julia did a great job playing the character of M. Bison. Jean-Claude Van Damme has had better roles (Time Cop) but I don't know of any one else who could have played the character of William F. Guile any better. I give Street Fighter a fourth star due to the extra features on the DVD as well as the fact that Raul Julia pretty much took the lead role in the movie. Unfortunately, he died of cancer not too long after the the final production of Street Fighter.
43 Poor Excuse For A Video Game
It is not uncommon for action films to have lousy storylines, but most at least have fun combat scenes. Street Fighter, however, fails in providing even this level of cheap entertainment. The barely introduced characters slap eachother when they punch and clip the opponent with their toes when they kick. The fighting is so bad that it makes the WWF look authentic. How can you have that in a movie that is solely about fighting?

They somehow managed to get everything wrong in a movie based on a video game. Except for one upside-down kick by Guile in the very end, special moves are absent. Many of the characters from the video game don't even do much fighting. Blanca never electrocutes anyone, Dhalsim never does his yoga stretch attack, and DJ also does nothing. Sagat and Vega are included as M. Bison's henchmen, but they manage to be extaordinarily flaky in everything they do. The good characters, Chun Li, Ken, Ryu, Balrog, and E. Honda are even worse. Every line they speak is hackneyed, trite, and stale. M. Bison himself is excruciatingly annoying because he stops for a fit of maniacal laughter after practically every sentence. In one scene where the good characters come after him, M. Bison flees to safety and laughs his silly evil laugh while his attackers are knocked out with sleeping gas. "You could have defeated me had you worked together." He admonishes with a big, arrogant smile, and then laughs some more. Uggh!!!

Perhaps the biggest mistake is that the movie is supposed to be in the real world. Guile is a colonel sent by the U.N. to fight M. Bison, a super duper evil crime lord/dictator/mad scientist. The story should have left more room for the supernatural so that special moves could be better incorporated into the plot. M. Bison gains his powers in the very end by using some giant machine to electrify himself. No! That doesn't work! If everything isn't bad enough already, Bison's palace/dungeon/batcave is guarded by stormtrooper wannabees. Naturally, they can't aim, and Van Damme knocks one of them out with a light tap on the helmet. It takes skill to make Van Damme look bad in an action movie! I have never in my life seen a film that is more saturated with ineptitude. Anything in the movie that can be made bad is bad. It is so bad that it's not even a good laugh because it is bad. Any entertainment value is eliminated with amazing thoroughness and it's not even faithful to the good ol' video game that we all know and love.

44 Heaven!
Finally salvation has been delivered to me. Jean-Claude Van Damme portrays Colonel Guile in this video game masterpiece. Based on Capcom's "Street Fighter", this film is about a warlord who wants billions of dollars and world domination. So, M. Bison (the late Raul Julia) takes innocent people hostage and demands for his requests to be met. Unfortunately for him, Guile will not obey the wide-eyed psychopath and asks him on international televion, 'hamanee doctors and nurses have you killed?' and 'hamanee children have you orphaned this week Bison?". It was chronicle! Guile's friend has been taken by the lunatic and Bison changes him into a fighting mutant! Carlos Blanca's life will never be the same. Oh well, enough of that soppy story. Back to action! Guile gathers all of his men and recruits a nosy reporter, a sumo wrestler, a boxer and two brothers who look nothing alike! Considering there is no street fighting what so ever in this mammoth production, Van Damme managed to impress me once again with his lordage. He fought Bison with roundhouse kicks, jumpkicks, his trademark 360* kick and the flash kick! YES, genius! Aside from the monumental superbeing, he saves the world and makes this the best video game movie ever. Forget "Mortal Kombat" or "Super Mario Bros." Van Damme would super kick all of those piddily mortals into the garbage where they belong!
45 So laughably bad it becomes a collector's item!!!
When I first heard that Van Damme, great thespian that he is, is to essay the lead role of Col Guile, my heart sank because my past experiences of Van Damme movies have been extremely unpleasant.

Well, thank his lucky stars, this TIME Van Damme isn't the ONLY reason for the phenomenal flop that is this piece of celluloid wasteland. The director, screenwriter and (non-existent?) fight-choreographer should be hung by their thumbs for dumping onto us lovers of the arcade game this piece of ... . ...

(1) The extremely filmsy plotline bears little relation to the actual character backgrounds of the arcade Street Fighters. One gets the feeling that the director and writer for this movie were non-fans of the game, and decided to invent their own "story".

(2) There is not a single good *fight scene* in the entire movie. If they had spend the money saved by not hiring the expensive stars on a fight-choreographer, perhaps the movie could have been redeemed.

(3) Terrible miscasting: Raul Julia is far too scrawny to be M.Bison, and Van Damme never even made me believe for a second that he was an American soldier.

(4) The dialogues were exceptionally insipid, puerile and an insult to any zombied arcade-slave's intelligence.

There were only two good parts in this movie. The first is when a group of Japanese intelligence officers spied in on M.Bison's lair and saw Zangief and E.Honda duking it out atop a miniature model of Bison's future headquarters. This was a very clever spoof of the Japanese Ultraman series. It even replicated the cheesy roars of Ultraman's usual dinosaur-nemeses in the background. Funny!

The second was good because it was unintentionally funnny. At one point the actor playing Zangief, dressed only in red underwear, is seen clutching and crouching way "too-close-for-comfort" behind a crouching Ken. ... However, if/when this scene becomes the only cultish selling point for the entire movie, you'd know how lamentable the rest of it actually is!

Final word, if you have money to waste, buy the Mortal Kombat DVDs first before you get into this one.

46 I Was Fooled!
I was tricked into watching this movie, I swear. My friends told me I was going to see "Forrest Gump", but I saw this in the theaters instead. They taped me to the seat and made me watch "Street Fighter", a movie I want to forget so much. It haunts me when I see E. Honda fighting Zangief like Godzilla monsters in my dreams. I am forever haunted with Van Damme movies.
47 A fantastic piece of... [work]!!
I wouldn't recommend buying this film to anyone! But if you're one of those crazy people who love laughably bad movies, then this is definitely worth adding to your crazy collection!!
I can't really add much to what's already been said... here at Amazon... I totally agree with all of ...[it]!
It is really crazy how the "characters" find their "costumes" in this movie. It's even more crazy how a lot of the characters are barely in the movie at all!

The movie is extremely, unintentionally funny but the very end is the best where all the characters (try to) do the winning poses of their computer-game counterparts! It's just very bizarre as most of the characters don't really fight despite the movie being based on the Street Fighter II game!

Besides the laugh factor, the only other reason to see this movie is for Kylie Minogue who looks fantastic as Cammy...

48 Joke
The title of this movie is "Street Fighter", it's about a dictator trying to take over the world... Where are all the fights? It seems the writers spent their time figuring out ways to stop them, por ejemplo: Ryu vs Vega, and when fights do happen then you understand why they were being stopped in the first place, almost no one is a martial artist in this movie. Watching Ken's Carradine inspired sidekicks is horrible. Also laughable is how everyone conveniently finds their costumes throughout the movie, in one scene Dhalsim mysteriously walks out in his diapers, Where did he find the clothes? I don't know but at least he is quickly blown up. There are hints of special moves throughout the film, in one excellent example of fight choreography gone bad Ken does this pathetic spinning uppercut that's supposed to be a dragon punch, others are less subtle like Bison flying around on wires. Instead of spending their Bison bucks on a fight choreographer they spent it on explosions, fake looking sets, an invisible boat, and blue camoflage?! I give this piece of [junk] a two for laughs.
49 DO NOT GET THIS!!!!
This movie was [poor]. Play the game if you want if you want street fiehter excitement. This movies plot was nothing like the games. The cartoon movie Street Fighter 2 was way better than this. The special moves like "Hadu-ken" and "Sonic boom" aren't even featured in the movie. Basically the made up the game along with the characters. They base the story on Guile not Ken and Ryu, now thats where they went wrong. Sure I liked to play as Guile in the game, but his story was boring. His friend Charlie was killed by Bison in the game. In the movie he is kidnapped and turned in to Blanka. What?! No, No, No, that was all wrong. Also Guile is an American, but in the movie they get Jean Claude "who gives a" Damme to play his role. Guile wouldn't have an accent, he would be a tuff guy that thought he could take on anyone. Most of the bad guys in the game are good guys in the movie. Chun li is a news women, E Honda her camera man, I think Barlog works with them too. Ralph Julia plays as Bison. Yeah the Addams Family father. What a movie to do before he dies. Bison was a buffed up, scary, evil guy. Ralph was skinny and no where near scary or evil. The screen writer who wrote this needs to put his pen and pad down and never write again. A dogs bark is more intresting then what he came up with. If you looking for a fun strret fighter time play any of the games or watch the Animated movie (both of them) or watch the japanese cartoon series. Hey we can be thankful that Mortal Kombat was awesome even though there weren't fatalities.
50 NOT WORTH BUYING! Don't waste your 15 bucks!
I have to say as a Street Fighter fan I was completely disappointed with this movie. Some others said it was suppose to be a spoof on action flicks and just can't seem to understand why we die hard fans hated this... The movie is suppose to be about STREET FIGHTING! Hello geniuses! Not only that i wanted to see a movie about my favorite fighting game, not one making fun of it.

This entire movie was just another excuse to give Van Damm a reason to hog the camera (Shockingly enough, many say this is his best action film! My God, how cruel can you people be?!). He plays the American Coronel Guile in the movie, but what the heck was up with the Austrian accent?! (If you think that's bad you should hear him speak English in real time. For the love of god, how many has he lived in America? None of the fight scenes in the movie were anything special or in the least bit memorable, although i will give Chun Li's scene against Bison props. She didn't do too bad a job. I wanted to see more.

Even though not much is known about the street fighter storyline, would it have killed the director to stick with what little bit was known? The dialogue between the characters was pretty... Sadly to say the best lines spoken in the movie were the ones when Guile gives an 'supposedly' inspirational speech to his troops. The casting just could have been way better. Bison looked all skinny and shiveled. He wasn't in the least bit convincing as a martial artist. Blanka's makeup was horrible! He looked like the incredible hulk! God there is just so much i could say about how much this movie... but i can't. If you really must see this movie just rent it.

51 "Quick! Change the channel!"
Okay...quick show of hands! How many Street Fighter video game nuts actually went to see this movie in theaters when it first came out back in '94? (Yeah, me too...)
I'm sure there are quite a few of you who thought that it was one of the most disappointing experiences of your movie-going career. I'll go ahead and include myself in that category. I lost count of the number of times I not only groaned, but looked at my watch during this "film", waiting for the thing to finally end. I'm a BIG fan of the Street Fighter video games (heck, I've owned every one at one time or another), but this...man alive, I'll tell ya. Let me count the ways not only Street Fighter fans, but Van Damme fans, martial arts fans, and fans of action movies in general should stay away from it. Now, granted, there is a LOT of talent in this flick; the late, great Raul Julia as the main villain, Bison (oh, sorry...M. Bison), Ming-Na (Joy Luck Club, ER) as Chun-Li (or Chun-Li ZANG...sigh), Wes Studi (Geronimo, Mystery Men) as Sagat, Grand L. Bush (In the Heat of the Night) as Balrog, etc., etc., and of course, Van Damme as Col. William (William...?) Guile. But that's about all this movie has going for it. You can forget what you know about the Street Fighter characters from the games, because here, ALL of their stories are different. (Well, except for Bison's...) How different? Well, for starters, Ryu and Ken are small-time thieves, Chun-Li's not an Interpol operative, but a TV reporter (with Balrog and Honda as her camera crew...oy.), Dhalsim's a doctor who works for Bison...you get the idea; you'll just have to see the rest of the differences for yourself.
But that's not even what bothered me! This is a movie that tries to pass itself off as a decent action/martial arts flick, and manages to do neither. If the movie's called "Street Fighter", wouldn't you think there would have to be at least ONE STREET FIGHT in it?! Well, apparently the director didn't think so. It's painfully obvious that the ones responsible for this movie were doing nothing but trying to cash in on a video game franchise at the peak of its popularity. They could've named this movie "Banana-Flavored Undershirts" and it wouldn't have made a bit of difference. The action scenes are frightengly dull, the fights (what few there actually were) were poorly choreographed, and even while trying to add a couple of the characters' "special moves" to the mix, couldn't even get THAT right. (One of my particular "favorites" is the "steel cage match" between Ryu and Vega, where the crowd actually chants "No weapons!" before the fight starts. Gimme a break.) The special effects are cheesy. The acting is incredibly overdone, especially by Julia, which is disheartening considering what a superb actor he was. It looks like at least he made the most of it, though.
The whole thing just has a bad look, sound, and taste to it. (And don't even get me started on the way everyone pronounces "Ryu". I literally cringed every time I heard it.)
The extras on the DVD don't save it, either...you can download any one of them off the net.
If you're a fan of the video games and for some reason haven't seen this movie, you're a better person because of it. Even die-hard Van Damme fans will hang their heads at this one.
Don't...just don't. You'll be glad you didn't.
52 Could have done better
Having viewed this film, I immediately fell in love with it being that I'm an avid action adventure and Van Damme fan but, as I delved more into the Street Fighter story, I can see why this film did not make it. First of all, Ryu (Byron Mann in the film) is supposed to be the title character and Bison is supposed to be much more powerful than he is although the late Julia does capture most of the essence of his maniacal character. Most of the action does not take place until the end which takes away from the basic premise of the film. With Ryu and Ken demoted to co-stars and most of the villains reduced to henchman only status, the real standouts are Van Damme as Guile and Ming-Na as Chun Li. Last and certainly not least, the special effects. Now Universal is one of the most popular and successful production companies of all time so I know they could have afforded to at least let viewers see half of the powers from the game. Despite lack of super powers, the fights are well choreographed and Graeme Revell's score does enough to keep this film alive but it is unfaithful to the video game and the story line. If you are looking at this a a vintage Van Damme film and not a faithful adaptation of the video game then you are in for a decent treat. We learn from our mistakes and having said that, I believe this franchise can be reimagined.
53 Capcom you lose
If you are expecting this movie to be like the game, don't buy this movie. I recommend watching the Animated Movie instead. The only reason I rented the movie was to see Ming-na play Chun-li. The plot? What plot? The dialogue was cheesyx10, and the fight scenes weren't all that.
54 writers? what writers?
I watched this movie with the directors commentary and it is obvious that the director had no clue what Street Fighter is and it's clear that he never studied up on it. He admits that he wrote the script to the entire movie in less than a half an hour. If you listen to him he mispronounces half of the characters names. This director should have been the star of the movie "Clueless." I mean, Blanka is Guile's friend Charlie? Carlos Blanka??? Give me a break! I hope a BETTER director picks up Street Fighter because if it's done RIGHT it would make for a great movie.
55 Blashphmy
What were the writers smoking? If you're a fan of Van Dam see this movie by all means. If you're a Fan or the Games and are famular with the True plot AVIOD. Don't touch this film with a 90 foot pole. Stay as far away as possible.
Just remember this is not representation of the True Street Fighter games. for that check out the Anime Versions.
other wise an ok action film.
I hated it though.
56 Horrible Adaptation
Street Fighter had good action but the plot and the acting was terrible. I played the Super NES version of the game and the movie's plot doesn't match the plot from the video game. What were the writers thinking?! This has got to be Jean-Claude Van Damme and Ming-Na Wen's most embarassing film that they ever acted in! One star for action and another for fighting but it does not give you much of the action movie experience. If you want to see a real action movie, try watching James Bond movies, The Rock, Gladiator, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or The Matrix. Those can give you real action other than this almost horrible movie.
57 AWSOME My All time favoit movie
I orginally brought it on VHS in 96 and it was good but it had left out storylines and it had hole burns on the side just like in a movie theatere. But anyway this is a 97 percent action movie. The DVD featur includes some deleted scens that involve more of the Street Fighter II Turbo game. It will ALWAYS be my all time movie it will be yours to if you liked the video game of Street Fighter
58 AWSOME My All time favoit movie
I was a big fan of the vdeo Game Street Fighter II Turbo for Super Nintendo and I happend to 1 day be looking around at Blockbuster and I could help bu resist to buy it yes it was used,,, but still! I remeber the first time I poped it in i was so ispired by it,, Yea it isnt like the video game so if you are a die hard fight movie lover see it but dont exsept to be staifyed......
Yes this movie got bad reviews since it wasent very organized and was just about went backrupt whean casting VAn-Dam and Julia.
Ive watched the VHS so much that it now is a little bit fuzzy towards the end of the movie. and Iam looking forawrd to purchesing it on DVD
Alough now it is hard to find!
59 best movie out of a video game
THIS MOVIE SO DOES REAK OF AWSOMENESS<---- WWF SUPERSTARS EDGE & CHRISTIAN, this is the best movie that was made from a video game, in my perspective anyways.

as the local movie guy says, "I GIVE 5 STARS"

60 They released a collector's edition for THIS?!
I actually watched this movie three times to absorb its true inner badness, and I found that the film is truly horrible on more levels than you could possibly imagine. The acting is deplorable, to be sure. The only one who's even putting forth any real effort is Raul Julia, who was WAY too wonderful an actor to have been tricked into making this abomination. Of course, Van-Damme is about as believable and emotive an actor as Carrot Top, so you should know what to expect. As for the rest of the cast, well, let's just say that the actor's didn't do their own matrial arts; the martial artists did their own acting. (I know that's an MST3K rip-off, but that's exactly where this movie belongs, really).

The plot is pretty much a bunch of random scenes put in a blender. We go from one unbelievable situation to another, into territories that neither make sense nor entertain. It amazes me that for all the impressive gadgetry and special effects, this is still no more intelligent or enlightening than the "Guess what? I'm a man!" episodes of the Jerry Springer show.

If you love the video games and are truly curious about the movie, skip it anyway. Trust me. I've seen this movie three times for you people. Along with binge-drinking,coke-snorting, and violent car crashes without seatbelts, this is one of the most brain-damaging experiences one can undertake. Next time anyone asks if you want to try this movie, JUST SAY NO!

61 Its a very good van damme movie
this,i thought was a good movie.there was a lot of action mixed with a couple of funny lines.the final battle was very, very good.well,i dont want to spoil it so ill just say this.very good van damme movie.
62 You lose. Perfect.
A masterpiece of trash. Based on the epic Capcom video game series, the creators of this movie managed to take a relatively simple plot involving some super talented street brawlers, and twist it all around to a sort of American propoganda war-in-the-gulf-genetic-engineering-gone-wrong-personnal-vendetta mishmash that stinks so utterly bad its almost worth seeing on its merit of being THAT terrible a film. Hideous casting direction, the people playing the animated characters are an incredibly cheap looking bunch, and often have little or nothing in common with the personalities on which they are based. Van Damme (with a Brussles accent) plays all American patriot Guille, with the late Raul Julia's (Raul Julia for pete's sake!) unfortunately final performance as an obscenely mis-casted M. Bison topping off the bad guy role. Some high points include a flabby looking Blanka played by some guy who watched too many incredible hulk reruns, and American karate man Ken Masters ....

The video game was never meant to be made into a film, (a japanese animated movie also failed to translate this non-existant plot into a film) and its release was a signal all over that Capcom had stretched their Street Fighter 2 empire too thin. There is a nice Sadat X song on the soundtrack, and thats about the only good that came out of this mistake.

63 Street Fighter Rocks
I though this was an excellent movie! I love street fighter and even though it was cheesy that makes it even Better. If you look past the effects this movie is really cool.
64 Not that bad... okay, I guess it is.
Right off the bat: you shouldn't review this movie entirely upon it's unfaithfulness to games, of which I am a fan. Not only is that unprofessional, but it's almost unfair, considering not much of the "Street Fighter" storyline had been established. Even so, it's not very good, but still not as bad as many have said.

The acting is poor, for the most part. Ming-Na Wen(Chun-Li) and the late Raul Julia(M. Bison)play their roles well, but most of the other performances are poor. In fact, it seems like the producer sent his agents out to find brawlers, porn stars and martial artists just to save a few bucks. That may sound like a joke, but it's not.

The story isn't very good either. We basically have a cheesy modern-age World War 2 that takes place in "Shadoloo City". This, obviously, isn't a a movie that you should think about while watching, though that may be tough.

Looking back at my review, I realize this movie is as bad as many have said. I stand corrected for saying earlier that this movie isn't that bad.

I still have a VHS copy of this movie, but only because I'm a fan of the video games. for an actual(although not excellent)SF movie buy "Street Fighter 2: The Animated movie". I was going to give this 2 stars, but now I think I'll give it 1. Still, It's not unwatchable, like the movie "Super Mario Bros." was before it. I gave that movie 1 star as well, and complained about not being to go lower. Ah, hell, I think I will give this 2 stars. Yes, that seems fitting.

65 It`s a shame this had to be Raul Julia`s last film
Van Damme should of fired his agent for letting him star in this unmemorable action film based on a video game. Van Damme plays a big macho man commando with his high tech army tries to stop a viscious warlord from killing hostges for a $20 millon dollor ransom. Raul Julia who was diagnosed with some sort of cancer was clearly noticable he wasn`t up to the task as usually is and probbaly did this film for the sheer thrill of it. A waste of the man`s acting talent. As for van damme this type of garbage is right up his ally, big special effects, corny villans, stupid one liners and an idiotc storyline that is barely cohenrent. One of the worst films i`ve have seen that is based on a video game. But then again what kind of decent story can someone get out of a video game?
66 Complete disappointment
This movie really sucked! If you saw Mortal Kombat the movie and then saw Street Fighter you would know what I am talking about. First of all the special effects were cheap. There was a part when Chun Li pulled a knife on Ken. You could see the knife bend! The fight scenes could have been choreographed much better. I have to say i was also disappointed with the story line and dialogue. The characters had no depth and were cheesy. Bison was played by this skinny old guy. Gee was it hard to figure out who would win? The heavily muscled Guile or the sickly looking Bison? If your really looking for spectacular fight scenes and a story line true to the game i suggest checking Street Fighter II: The animated movie.
67 Wants to be entertaining, not violent
Aside from Jean Claude van Damme's traditionally wooden performance, this movie is quite entertaining - that's because it is planned as a funny spoof of fighting movies rather than a cruel beat'em up. This is also what the game on which it is based was originally all about - fun rather than violence, parody rather than blood. Unfortunately, the movie attracted mainly people who expected cruel, violent massacre and were angry not to see it - an audience obviously not high enough to see and appreciate dozens of little jokes scattered throughout the movie (there are some, which are quite obvious - such as the parody of Japanese monster movies from the 1950s - and others, which require a more careful look - such as the lovely scene with the drawing - a parody showing Bison as Hitler, with a similar "creative" ambition and similarly ridiculous results!). The script was apparently too good for those who expected more of a violent, nonsensical fight such as "Mortal Kombat the Movie". However, unlike any other "fighting" films, this one you might show to your kids and people who dislike "fighter" films - that is because Street Fighter is a harmless fighting comedy, without hectolitres of fake blood and without those boring and crude sexual references, rather than a violent fighting action feature.
68 Van Damme is the Best!!!
ok..this movie is a pretty good movie..and if your a Jean-Claude Van Damme fan ..like me ..then you'll like it..if not then you might think it's a little bit on the cheesy side like my sister-in-law...thinks..now..this movie was made for the smaller audiences....so if you have kids they'll love it..my nephew loves this movie....it's a pretty good movie..i have it..but i have it on VHS..and now that i have a DVD..i'm going to have to get this collector's edition on DVD...overall..Van Damme was a good chose for this movie..i say go ahead and buy it..don't listen to those other people who try to tell you diffrent..I hope you all see Van Damme's new movie THE REPLICANT-comes out early 2001...don't miss it..JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME..your the BEST of the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
69 What the heck?
I remember watching this when it first came out, I was maybe 6 or 7 at the time. Because of my obsession to the award winning video game, I rented the movie. I brought it home and I watched, I thought it was the BEST movie in the world. A few days ago, I remembered back to this movie, and I remembered how much I had loved it as a kid, so I went and bought it. Unfortunaltly when I watched it, my reaction was VERY different from the one I had six years ago. I probably enjoyed the movie so much at the time because I was young and I didn't know how to critique movies. Well, now, six years later, this is my opinion, if you want a true blue authentic Street Fighter movie, go rent, or even buy, Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie. Or even better, buy the unedited Japanese version with English subtitle. I don't even think this "live-action" version of the movie deserved a 1 star rating, maybe a .05.
70 Braindead action film.
Why can't film producers realise that if you want to make a film based on a video game you have to alter the video game aspects slightly to fit a film format. Non-stop action is fine if you're playing a 'Street-Fighter' arcade machine, but it doesn't make for a thrilling film.

The wafer-thin plot involves maniac M.Bison holding hostages and demanding a lot of ransom money. So it's up to a lot of cardboard cut-outs with muscle to battle their way to the rescue. What this means is a lot of fighting and action with barely two words of dialogue.

Will you recognize any of the characters from the video games in this film? You probably won't, as they look nothing like them. The pathetic attempt to bring Blanka to the movie screen is especially laughable.

A total waste of time, though at least it's marginally better than that trashy animated abomination which is 'Sonic the Hedgehog:The Movie'.

71 Oh god...
How the hell can they even make a movie this bad, didnt they read the script first! This is like one of the worst movies ever.Only "Turbulence" was worse movie than this one. This has absolutely nothing, bad huomour, bad effects, bad acting etc. dammit this was a really bad send off for a good actor like Raul Julia,he would have deserved much more... Only some of the Vietnam refrences were pretty good...
72 THRASH !
Just watch this movie and you'll know what bad acting is. I believe it should be rated with a half star!
73 street fighter the movie with real life people
just watch the cartoon movie, "Street Fighter II: the animated movie" its way better!
74 2 hours of your life that you'll never get back
Could you possibly find worse acting or a more shallow, cliche plot! It all started with Van Damme being Guile...a character who is supposed to be a stereotypical American, but has an Austrian accent in this movie.

The movie is full of bad acting, a bad mismatch between the chosen actors and the SF characters (except for Zangief, who looked pretty accurate), and an immature plot.

If you want to watch something other than golf to help you fall asleep on Sunday afternoon, get this movie.

75 It Rules
So I was just going through my reviews and I discovered, to my shock, that I had given this movie two stars! Several people, in fact almost all of you, will disagree with my rating. Yes it's cheesy and stuff but it's still my favourite video game movie. It's funny too (stupid funny and funny funny).
76 S-T-U-P-I-D
Is it just me or is all the video game turned movies among the worst ever made? After the success of the games, maybe they could have afforded better writers who didn't smoke illegal substances all the time.
77 Big NO NO
What's up with the people who made this movie? Were they all crackheads
78 1st.:Mario Bros. 2nd.:Double Dragon. Now:This. EEAAAGH!!!
Street Fighter is just another video-game to movie translation that gives any true Street Fighter fan great disappointment. This movie had GREAT potential. WHY COULDN'T THEY JUST MAKE THIS MOVIE THE SAME AS THE GAME!!!!! It would have been AWSOME!!! I can write a whole book on the the mistakes they made with this trash but I'm only going to name a few. For one thing, the social status on nearly all of the fighters from the game has been changed. Ryu, for example, is supposed to be the main character but instead he and Ken seem like the only thing their good for is getting into trouble. Also, many of the fighters do not look like their video-game counterparts. I probably wasn't paying attention that much but I didn't even know who Dee Jay was until around 30 minutes till the end of the movie. Then, to play as M. Bison, they chose Raul Julia who is way to skinny and is not a matial artist as far as I know. I personally would have chosen Arnold Schwartzenegger, who may not be a martial artist but is much more familiar to te action genre, over Raul Julia. The most interesting part is the fights between Ryu & Ken and Sagat & Vega and even that was pretty stupid because Sagat and Ryu are supposed to be mortal enemies but their was no indication that Ryu had even put that scar on Sagat's chest which, according to the video-game, was supposed to have happened. I want to write WAY more than 1000 words but, according to the rules, I can't. In conclusion this movie wouldn't be that bad if the video-game never existed(thank God it does excist) and if the title wasn't called "Street Fighter" because it doesn't have enough martial arts in it to be called that. I would have rated this movie 4 stars.
79 Pretty GOOD MOVIE!!
WOW GREAT MOVIE!! I thought that Ming-Na Wen (Chun-Li) Was GREAT and SO SEXY!! I GIVE HER FIVE STARS!!
80 The DVD release gives this flick another chance!
The dozens of extras will keep you busy. Cruising tru the interactive menus, production notes, trailers, game outtakes, picture archives and so much more. To bad the movie is pure trash though. I only like the DVD features, the movie is uninspired, dumb, unfunny (all except for one joke-change the channel joke-) and above all the plot was probably written by a drunk Steven de Souza. Did the actors have acting lessons from an ape? It's hard to tell though. Only the DVD features does the film justice. I only ask myself why did Universal not make a collector'sedition out of HARD TARGET or TIMECOP, two much better Van Damme films with a lack of extras on their DVD release.
81 Campy, Ordinary, and Surrounded by Tackiness
This movie was at times campy (especially scenes with Bison), the writing was lame (who can forget the line "I'm going to kick that son of a b**** Bison's a** so hard that the next Bison wannabe will feel it" which was included in a scene involving a cheap inspirational speech), the action was predictable (there's wasn't enough hand-to-hand combat and when the movie got there, it was ordinary along with the plot which is basically a story about rescuing hostages). To go along with that, the movie is at times surrounded by cheapness. Blanka's make-up work sort of reminded me of the live action Incredible Hulk t.v. series, and somebody must have thought that arcade game controls on Bison's hover craft would be a cheap joke but to me it was just tacky.
82 A great adaptation to the video game
Street fighter was fairly acurate to the video game story with a few acceptions. For instance In the game E.Honda became Yokozuna in Sumo and was Japanese, Hovever in the movie he was from Hawaii and almost made Yokozuna (For those who don't know Yokozuna means Grand Champion.)
83 Pretty Damme Good!
I thought that it was an exciting movie. I liked all the action. I think that they should have followed the game though. What I thought was strange, when Guile was fighting M. Bison, and Guile killed him, but Bison came back to life in some odd way. All n' all, it was pretty Damme GOOD!
84 Dam Good
I thought that the movie was pretty good. I wish that they would have gone more by the game though. I liked all the action. I thought that they could have done a better job on the plot though. All n' all, it was pretty dam good!
85 Will there be a sequel to the First StreetFighter Movie
I saw StreetFighter the Movie I have it at home with me. Jean-Claude Van Damme was perfect for Colonel William Guile. I never thought Raul Julia would play the famous General M. Bison if Steven De Souza does a StreetFighter sequel who will play General Major Bison on the next one.
86 Do yourself a favor and don't buy.
This is a pretty wretched movie, poor acting, poor plot, poor direction, and it's just not "fun" like Mortal Kombat. The only thiing going for this movie are the characters from the video game, but for the most part, they do absolutely nothiing for the movie.

If you have to pick between this movie and Mortal Kombat, go with Mortal Kombat. Though not awesome, at least Mortal Kombat is entertaining.

87 I'm speachless
This movie is the best movie ever mad
88 this is Jean-Claude Van Damme's best
Jean-Claude Van Damme at his best...buy it no
89 It sucked
I used to like the game, until I saw this movie. It was totaly retarded. Everyone had crapy costumes on, and look like queers. And ther are like 20 main charicters in this movie. Isn't Guile supposed to be and american? God John claud van dam can speak ebglish worth crap, sorry jon. Final Words: Jon claud van dam this movie!! It sucked!!!
90 Street Fighter is the best Van Damme movie ever made!!!
This movie is something else. I just have to tell how much I think of it. This movie is based on the game so it contains most of the original characters from the first ever PC games of Street Fighter of nine or ten years ago. (As well as new characters like Cammy that appeared in later games) This movie has virtually everything. As the theme plays a nice little build up at Bison's headquarters appears. All of the danger and excitement is based around one thing, rescuing the hostages from Bison's evil clutches. And I think that it is very important not to step far away from the main purpose of the movie. The climax is breath-taking and some parts are very funny. Like the part where Bison's troops sourround Guile high up on M.Bison's headquarters with massive rifles and Guile responds by grinning with confidence and pulling out a penknife! It's only then that the camera moves and we see Guile's troops behind him with even bigger guns! To sum up, Street Fighter has its funny sides, ultra violence, tactical espionage and swear words! 10 out of 10!
91 my review is that it should have had all there powers
Jean-Claude van Damm was not the star of the movie he's sort of like a camera hog. Ken and Ryu were the real stars. If the director even had time to fit in to his busy schedule to play the game' he would have found out that they had powers and special moves.
92 Tragic.
What a god-awful useless waste of celluloid. The trailers before the movie are the high point of the video. A great shame that Julia was so wasted here... It's odd, why are villians allways so good and heros allways so moronic? Van-Damme is evedently not an actor, but a very expensive prop, which shoud have been thrown out with the rest of the useless junk when this movie was done.
93 The most #!?#*"^ stupid action movie I ever saw.
WELL,what do you say about a (street fighter)where ryu, sagat and vega(the best enemies against each other)join together to beat the silly looking bison, and where balrog(the evil boxer) joins with chun Li,and where the action is badly acted out by some freaks who don't even know how to throw a punch, and where T.hawk(the largest and biggest street fighterever) who appears as a 18-year old kid in this silly movie and where the story line is uninteresting and VERY boring???? I can't express my disgust with such a movie in words, and if only there was a"0"star rating which I can rate it with. There's not a single good point or any good thing about this movie nonetheless. one last word........what a shame for such a famed and famous action star like vandamme to 'go down' and accept acting in a movie like this one which is nothing like street fighterIIV and the games series.
94 See this film for the actors, not the plot.
Based on the popular video game, STREET FIGHTER is a flawed but fun movie to watch. The movie doesn't stay faithful to the game's original characters or settings, the plot holes are large enough to do a Van Damme butterfly kick through, and director Steven DeSousa's direction is uninspired. But except for Jean-Claude Van Damme (who is woefully miscast as Colonel Guile), the actors are wonderful. Leading the way is Raul Julia, giving a memorable performance as the vainglorious General Bison; Julia showed no signs of the illness that tragically would take his life just months after completing work on the film. Ming-Na Wen (Chun-Li), Damian Chapa (Ken Masters), Kylie Minogue (Lt. Cammy), Wes Studi (Sagat), and Simon Callow (a fussy U.N. negotiator) are on hand to make up an impressive acting ensemble. There are even a few genuinely hiliarious moments in the film, as when one of Bison's henchmen finds out how difficult it is to torture a Sumo wrestler. If you watch STREET FIGHTER for the performances, rather than the proceedings, you'll find it a lot easier to swallow. END
