Videophiles with an eye for convenience will want to take note of Sylvania's compact 6615LE LCD television. The 15-inch set offers compatibility with progressive-scan 480p video signals (such as those from select DVD players and satellite receivers) as well as full 1080i high-definition TV signals from DTV set-top boxes. Now you can enjoy great picture quality in your kitchen, bedroom, or office without sacrificing a whole wall to a bulky TV or monitor.

The 6615LE offers a slim, 3.3-inch profile and an internal NTSC tuner for convenient broadcast-television viewing with features like auto channel setup, V-Chip parental controls, SAP (second audio program), and closed-caption decoding. Image quality benefits from a 3-line digital comb filter (which removes blurred edges between colors and reduces "dot crawl") alongside the set's native high brightness (500 candles/square meter), a high contrast ratio (500:1), and wide (170 x 155-degrees) viewing angles.

The main benefits of an LCD screen include the crystal clarity of images and their extremely compact form factor. The space-saving design of the 6615LE enables you to view television in any room of your home. And like all LCDs, this unit is immune to the distortion and negative color balances one may encounter when using a conventional CRT television near fluorescent lighting or speaker systems.

Two elliptical speakers radiate stereo sound from either side of the screen. For connections, you get 1 composite-video input for your DVD player, VCR, or other audio/video device, 1 S-video input, and a set of component-video inputs for your progressive-scan DVD player or DTV set-top box.

The onboard 181-channel tuner offers PLL frequency-synthesized tuning, picture controls (contrast, brightness, color, tint), and you can access its handy onscreen menu from the TV's front panel or from the supplied full-function remote control. Auto sleep timer/power off saves energy after a preset period of inactivity, while resume power-on will recall the set's power state following a brief power outage. The 6615LE is Energy Star-compliant.

1 Sylvania 6615LE - Excellent choice for small crisp picture.
Unpacked the item, and immediately plugged it into my HDTV Set top box using the component output. Voila! a beautiful 1080i picture as stated in the technical specs!.. I then hooked it up to a 2.4Ghz audio/video sender connected to my satellite dish and voom! now have crisp satellite images from the living room TV in our Kitchen, with a very nice, compact 15" self supporting GREAT television set!!. Did I mention it is now a WIRELESS TV?.. Tons of great things you can do with this TV/HD Monitor that many stores that sell the item don't even know about. Fry's electronics said that this set couldn't be capable of displaying HD at that price! Ha I say!
2 Great little TV
The TV is small, light and very good looking. It has a great picture and the sound is good. It is much more than a good value for the money. I read the other comments before I purchased it so I thought I was prepared for a cheap little kitchen TV. There are no negatives. Unbelievable value.

3 Nice little kitchen TV
It arrived from Amazon quite quickly. I plugged in the cable coax connection, plugged in the power and instant TV. Quite nice picture and wide viewing angle for an LCD screen. Very light, which is just what we wanted. When we're in the kitchen area we can turn it to face us. When we sit down to eat we just turn it around 180 degrees.

I didn't check any other competing TVs. This one sold me on its price, light weight and good reviews at Amazon. It exceeded my expectations.
4 Great deal for the money
I purchased one of these TVs about 3 months ago as a replacement for a 13-inch. I looked at several other makes and models, but this one was definitely the best deal for the money. The TV has relatively good picture and descent sound quality. The remote is comically oversized, which does make it harder to lose. The TV does need to be faced towards where your sitting or the picture can be difficult to view, especially with bright lights on in the room. Overall, I have been completely satisfied with it.
5 good value for the money
I purchased this at Best Buy as a second tv to put in the bedroom . I was skeptical about the price and quality, but its been almost a year and I love it. Our major tv went on the blitz and we've been using this as our main set. It has held up to a couple of "falls" and still works. Quality is great, works right out of the box, sound is fine, it has easy access to inputs and it is extremely light! It even has its own remote. The only con is that the stand limits the viewing angle, so we fixed that by moving the screen to the postion we wanted and securing it (it is so light we used a twisty to tie it through the of the cable box).
I'm so happy with this, I'm looking for another 17 inch or bigger.
6 Value, Value, Value for $300 or $330
I went to Circuit city to see this TV but surprise, surprise no TV on display! I did pay $330 +tax to take it home and dubiously plugged it into my cable box. WOW it worked well! then I plugged it in using the S-video.. There really is a difference! I have yet to try it with the RGB video but when I get cables I'll see. Circuit city does not label 1080i ability, but Amazon does. so I'm wondering, is one lying or the other just incompetent or are there 2 different Sylvania6615 TVs out there.
The Picture was bright and sharp. Better than AQUOS. view angles great (for an LCD). Sound SUCKS! but how much do you want from a $330 3" thick TV. Buy it from Amazon and save the $60(tax+price difference) Great LCD for the money either way! Long live the Ancient and now rarely seen (except at your grandma's place) Sylvania !

7 Good small LCD TV for the money
For around $300 this is a good deal, and probaly the bset small cheap LCD TV you will find. This little TV is now in my kitchen, and the picture quality is pretty good considering it is hooked to my cable and not my satellite, the latter of which has a superior signal. The viewing angle is OK and the darks are a little to light. Now the biggest problems are (1)the remote, it is huge, considering this TV has no major extra features and the remote has only the most basic features why is it so big? I mean it is larger than my Kenwood audio receiver remote and it has proabably 50 buttons, I am going to replace it with a small basic universal remote. (2) The other major "bad" with this set is the stand, it is like a picture frame stand so the TV always will have to lean back somewhat, it can't stand up straight like do most LCD TVS and LCD monitors. All in all a good buy though not without it's faults.
8 Great TV for the money
Pros:
Extremely lightweight (even lighter than most 14").
No Power Brick! Attached cord plugs directly into wall.
Can accept a 'standard' 100mm wall mount.
At $299, an absolute great buy.
Not bad sound at all.

Cons:
Extremely bulky and clunky Remote.
So-so black levels (not great contrast/brightness levels)
Poor viewing angle (especially vertically)

Okay, so I don't know much about LCD TVs. I first saw this one on display at Best Buy. It was in an array of 20 or so TVs. For some reason, this little guy stood out as having a great picture. Even so, the viewing angle was not very good - when all of the TVs were viewed from an angle (to the right or left), most of the screens turned milky - including this one. Keep in mind that many of the $1500 TVs also milked out as well. This one suffers from vertical angles as well. If you look dead on, it looks great. Crouch down and look at, and the screen has faded halfway to black. By contrast, the LCD monitor I am looking into right now is outstanding from all angles. Expect to spend 20 minutes or so adjusting the picture. There are no presets (i.e. movie, sports, etc.). Finally, there are three backlight settings.

Best Buy had it listed at $399 (plus tax). Amazon has it for $299. The next lowest 15" is currently well over $400. In my opinion, that makes this a good deal for now.

The thing that really stands out about this TV is the light weight and the lack of a power transformer. I'm telling you, this thing is light enough to hang from a nail in drywall (not that I recommend it). It was BY FAR the lightest TV on the Best Buy display rack; every other TV (even the 14-inchers) weighed at least twice as much. Add to that the fact that most 15" LCDs require a power brick. If you are planning on wall-mounting an LCD or Plasma, the last thing you want to have to do is cut a hole in the wall to recess a transformer. The integrated power supply is a strong Plus for this TV.

The datasheet lists the speakers at 1W per channel - extremely underpowered. However, I was surprised at the sound it delivered. No chest-pounding bass by any means, but not tinny. This TV was never meant for serious A/V viewing anyway. There are no treble or bass adjustments. You get Stereo or Mono - that's it. There is decent stereo separation, but don't compare it to your 32" with surrpond.

The overall thicknes of the TV is just under 4". If you wall-mount it, you will not have any surprises. None of the connectors point out the back of the TV; they all point out the left side. They are far enough away from the left edge so as to accomodate cable dressing; no right-angled connectors are needed.

The inputs are everything a mid-range TV has:
75 Ohm coax
Component
Composite
S-Video

For outputs, there is a Headphone jack, but no video or audio RCA out.

The TV has a picture-frame type stand (arm that angles out to hold the TV up). Most LCDs have a stand that keeps the TV perfectly vertical, allowing slight angle adjustments. This one is a little more manual. You can adjust the vertical angle by extending or retracting a metal extension. The arm is not removable.

If you are looking for an inexpensive LCD, this is a great bet at $299. I wouldn't pay anything over $325 for it, though - certainly not $399 as Best Buy suggests.

Amazon is offering a 17" SVA for $299 as of this writing. I am wary of any PC monitor that has a built-in TV tuner. I would stick with the dedicated LCD TV like this one.

By the way, I purchased two of these for Christmas 2004. Amazon got them here well within their gauranteed delivery time. If you are buying one as a surprise, they are shipped in the actual manufacturers box (not in plain cardboard), which lowers the surprise factor...
