Outrageous double identities and sidesplitting misadventures abound in this hit remake of the comedy classic that's motion picture fun for everyone!
1 Delightful Movie And A Must For Christina Ricci Fans
A cat (in the literal sense of the word) "witnesses" a kidnapping, and one of his owners' (Christina Ricci) heads to FBI HQ to file a report. Naturally,(at least behind her back) they laugh at her information, but soon appoint one of their own to head the investigation. Kitty had some clues on him (literally), and the team decides to tail him (pardon the pun), hoping he would lead them to where the clues came from, which proves easier said than done. He ends up making the agents look like a bunch of bafoons. Will the agents catch the kidnappers? Will they even figure out there was a kidnapping? Will I ever get to arm wrestle Brooke Shields? To get the first two answered, you'll need to see the movie. The latter will depend on if her agent will let Brooke accept the challenge. If you want a movie the whole family can get a good laugh in, you will want to order this one. The film is a comedy and has good action with a brush of suspense. One of the cutest scenes is when the butcher and the security guard "run across the field" so to speak and kiss. If you're a Ricci fan, you'll see plenty of her charming self throughout the movie. Would make an ideal Birthday/Christmas gift for anyone especially a Christina Ricci fan.
2 MY SON LOVED IT!!!
We originally rented this movie from Netflix and my 4 year old son loved it so much that he did not want to return it. I searched every store to purchase this movie and finally came to Amazon to purchase it for him. I have not seen the original movie but I too liked this movie. The charaters are entertaining and all the little plots keep you interested. I think that it is a must purchase for any cat lover.
3 Fun Movie!
Though some parts were predictable and the plot a little weak, it was all in all a fun remake. Besides, I'd watch anything with Christina Ricci. She's great. ;)
4 Awful!
This is one remake that shouldn't have been made! The only thing it has in common with the original is that a cat came home wearing a wristwatch on his neck, everything else is a totally new story that doesn't make any sense. It appears that the current producers disliked the original plot so they added a bunch of silly subplots just to fill space. The lady butcher in love with a security guard leaving packages of meat on his doorstep, the "bloody twig" clue which turned out to be a maraschino cherry stem, the person who hasn't left their apartment for years, etc. were all distracting elements that nobody would have missed had they been left out.

My sons hadn't seen the original yet, and they thought this movie was stupid. They did enjoy the original when I rented it the following week.

5 Not nearly as good as the original!
While the remake version of "That Darn Cat" was pretty good, it pales in comparison to the classic original with the Siamese Cat. Instead of spending my money on this version, I will anxiously await the day when the original 1965 version of "That Darn Cat" comes to DVD !
6 flaw entertainment
There are only a few movies where the remake is as good as or better than the original. This one is the worst I ever have seen. I have bought this on DVD in a PAL country expecting a reissue of a former released NTSC Laserdisc containing the original movie of 1965. What I have got was a production (1997) with shallow entertainment not even amusing or funny, created loveless.
Although the original movie exists in a restored version I don't understand why it is not yet released on DVD in place of that nonsense of 1997. Therefore I share the same opinion with the reviewer who said: "buy That Darn Cat (VHS) in place of That Darn Cat (DVD)"!
7 That Darn Cat
I don't see how they could've made us wait this long for this great movie on DVD. There probably won't be any good special features, but it will still be great. I'm not gonna give any spoilers except that it's about a cat (DUH!). It's a great movie. Fun for the family. (One of my favorite movies...lol.)

PEACE OUT

8 a 23 year old
i am 23 years old and like this movie which shows that there can be adults like be who actally like this movie and think its fun just because it is not like the first that darn cat does not mean it can't be fun.
9 Darn Remakes!
I have always loved the older version staring Hayley Mills and was curious to see how the remake measured up. Need less to say, I was not impressed. More often than not, I find sequels and remakes to be worse than the originals. This is just another example and the only outstanding part I found really funny was Zeke trying to think and act like a cat.

It's likabe for kids because it's an "up-to-date" version. But in my opinion the older movie is much more entertaining, especially for adults. Besides it follows the book a lot closer than the newer production. I recommend seeing the old classic verses this one.

10 Underrated and great
The only movie I think that could be more underrated than this would be "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace". How could this not be easily liked? I mean, some reviewers critized Ricci's attitude. But this it what teens are like! The cat wasn't boring. The cat was great!(though I guess it was a bit an annoyance at times). I mean it has a great mystery. Is the lady really here? Where does DC go in the night? And why is meat being dropped off at the police station? That was a big thing that was largely solved. I wouldn't want to spoil that though. And the characters... they had such personalites. Like those two gas station guys that were rivaling and battling. And Ricci, the alienated teen who doesn't like living there. Can you blame her? That's what teens are like and thats what makes it...athentic. Doug is funny, too as he tries to think like DC. The mom who refuses to swear. And much more! Lots of action and a nice sense of humor. Watch it!
11 That darn movie
a great movie doug e doug acted good i am not sure about christina ricci she was 0kay the cat was a good actor the movie had alot of mystery. i need to watch the original one cause they say its good and i thought this one was good i loved it . 5 thumbs up way up .
12 A VIEWER FROM PLAINFIELD,CT
If you really like this movie, go with the original from 1965. Hayley Mills and Dean Jones are a better and enjoyable combo to watch instead of Christina Ricci and Doug E.Doug. If it wasn't for that cute gray tabby cat, I would have totally passed on this one. The acting and writing were lame.....At least the film ends within an hour and a half, so you won't make it a habit to look at your watch or wall clock while watching!
13 average remake
Disney's tepid remake of the Hayley Mills classic works somewhat, although the story has been shifted to modern times it creaks like it belongs in the 60's.

Patti Randall (Christina Ricci) discovers a wristwatch around her wily old cat's neck. "HEL" has been scratched into it. Patti realises that no-one will listen to her plea, so she completes the inscription with "HELP" and takes it to FBI agent Zeke Kelso (Doug E. Doug). The investigation begins....

The supporting players outshine the leads here. Among the actors of note are Bess Armstrong, Dyan Cannon, Peter Boyle, Michael McKean and George Dzundra.

****Interesting casting note....Dean Jones, who played Zeke Kelso in the original, plays Dyan Cannon's rich husband in this version.****

Fine, if a little inferior to the original.

14 A good movie for all ages
I never saw the original "That Darn Cat" but this version of it was great. Everything about this movie was good. Too bad there aren't more movies and TV shows like this one.
15 Hillarious!
This movie is absolutely hillarious. I'm not that fond of cats, in fact I don't like them that much, but this movie could make you laugh every second. Some people feel like they want to laugh and this is the movie!
16 Not bad for a kids movie
Ricci [Christina]is the main highlight of this wierd but funny movie.

The story is about a teenage girl with a pet cat.

One night the cat brings home a message on a watch. The message looks like "hell" but turns out to be "help". The message is from a kidnpped servant of a rich lady.

I won't tell you the whole story but i will say that it was pretty good. However, I think the age group it would fit woul be about 5-11 years.

17 I liked this video because it involved a cat!
I love cats. That is why I liked this video. I also liked it because it was very funny. Buy it if you are a cat lover!
18 Cute, enjoyable fun!
No, it's not worthy of an Oscar, but it was good for a little over an hour's worth of entertainment, especially if you're a cat lover.
19 none
i wonder what is up with alot of this bad review i know it may not be as good as may be the original that darn cat movie but if you at the movie like i look at it you would find it very upbeat and entertaining.
20 o my god 1 of the worst movies i ever saw
i was 9 when I saw that Movie and belive Me you couldn't give me money to see it again, it had a terrible plot and the acting was so bad. I pity the fool Who even Rents this movie and if they got it for keeps, They would shot themselfs as i said before WORST MOVIE IN THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD! (well at least 1 of them)
21 funny movie
me and my mom saw this movie at the movie theater i have to say i laughted though the intire film it is just that funny.
22 Ewwww
As a cat lover, I was inclined to go see this movie. Instead of a funny cat flick, I found a movie with an unbelievable plot and WAY to much violence. My advice: Don't waste your time on this trashy film.
23 Lamentable remake of Disney classic.
A sad, sorry remake of the 1965 classic which contains none of its warmth and charm. Watching remakes such as this only highlights the superiority of the original and seems to elevate it even further in quality.
24 Funny,but at parts boring
This movie was saved by the FBI agent. He was very funny, and in my opinion the only good part of the film. I would recommend this film to anyone who might like cats, but even then you might not want to waste your time....
