1 This Diet is a MUST if You're Serious About Losing Weight!
I can't believe I actually found a diet plan that works for me. I have just recently given birth to my sixth child and this book was a God send for me. Not only did I lose all pregnancy weight, but I lost the 20 pounds I've always wanted to shed. The first three days are a bit difficult if you're not use to eating fruit. If you can make it to the fourth day; your in and you can kiss those pounds away. Maintaining the weight loss is also easy to do once you understand Judy Mazel's theory of combining foods. This book is not about what NOT to eat but WHEN to eat certain types of food and what you eat to counteract over indulging. Dieting has never been more fun!!

After eliminating my coffee habit with the help of a wonderful coffee substitute made from soya beans called "Soyffee", I'm feeling so much better. My doctor recommended it to help lower my cholesterol and promote strong bones. It's available online at www.S o y c o f f e e.com to find it.
2 I've read all the neg reviews & I'm sorry, BHD still rules!
First, let me get all of MY negative thoughts on the diet out of the way: it's expensive... dried apricots withOUT sulfur dioxide is pricey, and unless you live in a tropical area, the amazing enzyme-packed fruits you need to consume can slim down your wallet too. Next, it sort of gives you permission to indulge, and to me, that mindset can be dangerous, but maybe that's just a result of having strict parents & living in a puritanical society... I usually felt very guilty during the diet! :) Now to address the naysayers, you did truly not read the overall intent of Ms. Mazel. You probably have a difficult time with seeing the big picture in a lot of instances, don't you? Judy's concepts make ALOT of sense. She's practical, truthful, and it's a pity she caved and gave in to producing that Part II 'updated' version of the diet to make some people happy. She doesn't promote exercise, but she doesn't need to~ she's blessed in that department apparently. Maybe YOU do... I know *I* do... OK, so you get a little bit of the runs after the first week? if it comes to that? why not! your body is ridding itself of toxins my dear... the cleansing step is working. Your skin especially will thank you.

Also I love the fact that the Beverly Hills Diet promotes carbs, and there's NOT a lack of protein... the concept is called conscious combining Carbohydrates fuel your body! No substitutes, and like she says, you've got to approach it logically~ a Krispy Kreme donut is obviously a carb, and certainly you can have it when it's time, but where are the nutritional values? the concept of conscious combining is exactly what the body needs. Frankly, I'm just waiting for the Atkins ball to drop. There's going to be mass liver & kidney failure the likes of which we've never seen before all over the place, and soon. How can your body process so much protein~ all the time?! oh weeee'll seeeee... if Judy's smart she will capitalize on this sad yet brilliant opportunity to push BHD again!
3 A Horrible Diet
The author's dietary plan begins with going several days eating nothing but fruit. Apparently, the idea is to lose weight by inducing a severe case of diarrhea. Another brilliant idea of hers is to avoid exercise; wouldn't want to put a few pounds of muscle on that ghastly figure. The author looks like a victim of her own bad ideas. Judy Mazel is obviously an idiot, but shame on the irresponsible publisher who dumped this garbage on a gullible public. There are a lot of very bad diet books around. This one may be the worst.
4 Try it! It could work miracles for you.
This book (and Judy's system) have gotten a lot of slams, for what I think is no good reason. Most people who slam it don't seem to really understand the theory she is proposing. It doesn't make you protein-deficient. And the all-fruit days are only at the beginning. (We have way too much protein in our diets anyway, thanks to the meat and dairy associations.) She is frequently misquoted and maligned because she is not a scientist. I have used this diet and, when it is followed, it works miracles. It isn't for eveyone, especially people with sensitive stomaches. But if you can tolerate high-acid fruits, like pineapple, it is a godsend! (And pineapple is very good for you, by the way, dieting or not.) Of course there are days when you're not crazy about what you're eating! It's a diet, guys! But the fact that you can usually eat however much you want to is a great savior, I think. Also, the way you lose a lot of weight at the beginning is a great motivator. It's basically really healthy. Of course, it's hard to keep up the system after you've lost the weight--this is a challenge with any diet. This one really works if you follow the guidelines.
5 lifelong slimhood
this new way of eating really works. while the first 10 days are difficult, they are worth it. i have tried several diets since giving birth but this is the only one that has no "nevers" on maintenence and works. i have read some negative reviews on this book, but i doubt if the writers have even tried the diet.some even say it's not nutritionally sound,as if being overweight is.i lost 10 lbs the first 7 days and that speaks alot louder to me than any review,no matter who wrote it.i also tried the NEW beverly hills diet but am much more impressed with the original.if you have weight to lose and can't deal with eating tiny portions without anything "fattening" for the rest of your life, then this diet is for you.
6 This really works!
I have been on diets most of my life and my weight has gone up and down (but mostly up) for years. Until this book came into my hands. It is the first time a book has made real sense to me. It is also the first time I have been encouraged to ... eat on a diet. I have completed the first six weeks and I am continuing as I still have a long way to go. I have lost an incredible 42 pounds so far and I still can't believe how good I feel. My skin and hair look healthier and my nails that used to split are strong and shiny once more. It is true that nothing is leaving the planet and that if you plan for it, nothing is fattening. Thanks Judy!
7 Thanks Judy!
Both my mom and I lost 20 pounds the first time we did this diet. I was never hungry and I love her idea that "nothing is leaving the planet". I feel healthy and have a lot of energy. I have been giving this book to my friends for presents. I like the day by day pep talk. It helps to learn slowly the proper way to eat. A lot of diets do not teach you how to eat after you lose your weight. Judy talks constantly about maintenance and prepares you for when you finish the diet. Thanks Judy!
8 it works!
i have been using this eating system for approximately 15 years. i have enjoyed the food, the health, the beauty, the energy and i also enjoyed the author's breezy, humorous style. when i found this book, i bought many copies and handed them out to my friends. they all got well from various and sundry diseases such as hepatitis, hypoglycemia, etc. of course they were vegetarians and this system just helped them hone their eating habits so that at last their food was serving them instead of poisoning them. i highly recommend this book for a fun read and the diet for a lifestyle. it works!
9 THIS BOOK WOUND UP IN THE TRASH
This stupid book put me in starvation mode for two weeks. I mean, come on, a whole day eating grapes? I would be waifing around my bowl of grapes thinking of that disgusting skinny image of the author Juday Mazel when I'd nearly scream! Don't buy this book -- it's pyschotic!
10 Solving the puzzle
I weren't feeling good for a long time. The reson was my extra weight that has gone up as I reached my thirties. Now I feel much better after I learned how the body and food mechanisim work. 'Thanks Judy'. It is a great book which contain simple but vluable information. Last year I lost 22 Pounds in 4 weeks. Now I eat all type of food but when I gain some weight, I follow the program in one single day and get back to the ultimate weight easly. I hope Judy can join us here so we can address some questions to her directly. If someone knows her internet e-mail I would appriciate it.

12 Beverly Hills Diet buddy wanted :)
If anyone is interested in doing this program with me for the 5 weeks let me know. We could e-mail eachother daily for encouragement and support (something I could really use). I had hoped to use the web-site for this but it seems to be down.
13 Great if you follow the diet only once!
The book is well written and encourages you from day to day to follow the diet. I lost 12 pounds in the 35 day span. I have a warning, though, for readers who wish to continue following the diet. Because of the vast amount of fruit on the plan, I developed a bad anal fissure that has lasted for 6 months. The pain is immeasurable, and I am facing the possibility of surgery. I would recommend following it only for one 35 day span, and continue afterwards with a greater emphasis on vegetables and fiber. (i.e. from bran.)
14 not just good for losing weight, great detox diet too!!
I tried the Beverly Hills Diet for the first time in the summer of '98. I found that after the first 4 days my skin was glowing and my eyes had a certain sparkle. I think its a great way to detoxify your body of all the excess sodium, sugar, artifical sweetners etc... I only managed to stay on the diet for 8 days after which i began feeling quite weak. I have just started the diet again today (28 Jan '99). This time i would like to lose some weight as well as cleanse my system. I didn't lose much weight the first time around, 3 lbs in a week most of which was probably from water retention. I think the BHD is worth trying just to give your body a break from all the complex foods we normally ingest.
15 Li.......Three pounds the first Day! Wow!
My best friend raved about this book so of course I had to try it for myself. I just started the diet yesterday(12/7/98), but I got on the scale this morning and I was already 3 pounds lighter. That's nothing to sneeze at, in my book. My tongue was a little sensitive from eating so much pineapple, but that's mostly gone. One tip for people who try it: SKIP THE MAZEL DRESSING and just use olive oil and spices on the LTO salad. Your tastebuds will thank you for it, believe me. I'll review again as I get further into the diet. I hope it keeps working so well.
16 Revised plan even easier to stay with - for life!
This new version of The New Beverly Hills Diet is even betterthan the original. Judy Mazel clearly explains how and why the dietworks. This book provides an eating plan that really works from the first day. It includes the theory behind the plan, a day-by-day support chapter, and details about how to make it work for you. I have felt better and been more succesful on this program than any other I have tried.
17 Mixed feelings about The Beverly Hills Diet
The Beverly Hills Diet by Judy Mazel, gives a great deal of insight into food, enzymes and how to maximize the "power of the pineapple"! I first tried this diet in the summer of 1982, and lost thirty pounds, keeping twenty off for over 10 years. The problem was that I couldn't stay on the diet for more than 8 or 9 days at a time before becoming violently ill. Ms. Mazel's idea of using fruits to compensate for bad eating days, as encouraged in this book, has stuck with me over the years, and I use it to this day. The diet is updated and far healthier in her New Beverly Hills Diet book, but having read and tried both, I can tell you the results are not as instantly gratifying in the new version.
18 my path to long hoped for nirvana!
I am a diehard believer in the workings of the Beverly Hills diet . Believe it or not , although I am barely 20 years old,I have known about the diet for what seems like ages now. This is probably because it has been passed down to me through four generations of sisters who are true believers like myself. All I know is that it is the only diet I have found able to deliver its promises in the shortest amount of time .The only drawback is ,( I hate to have to contradict myself....)...as a diet to lose a few pounds for an important occassion , its heaven sent , but as a way of life, it is totally out of the question. Take this from a person who knows the BHD inside out.
19 book has misinformation
I read the book cover to cover. Lost 7 pounds in 5 days which was encouraging. Am a health-care professional, and wanted more info. from author re: lack of protein etc. As previously stated in these comments, the Web site is indeed non-existant, 1-800 number is also out of order. Seattle tel. number(Club Slim) belongs to the residence of a gentleman who says that if the message is for Judy Mazel, don`t leave it. This is not just lack of support and misinformation. It is scandalous and frightening. What kind of confidence can one have in the value and authenticity of this program, if this kind of misinformation exists. I definitely stopped the diet and will return to what I think is a more healthful way of reducing.
20 Its a quick, fad diet. No worse than SLIM FAST!!!!!!!
I have read the book, I understand its contents of how enzymes work with enzymes. I don't think its all that bad. If you only want to loose 10 or 15lbs. After you loose the weight desired you could then go to a well balanced food plan and healthy exercise schedule. However, if you intend to continue eating like this then I can see how it could be dangerous to your health. One can not eat like this for long. Society is so hell bent on being slim. It drives us nuts. Thats partially why there is a product called SLIM FAST on the market. You must use caution on any diet. I think that fruits are a great way to loose the extra weight you want in a quick fashion. YOU control your OWN mind. DONT blame it on anyone else.
