The Brothers

Think of it as a male version of Waiting to Exhale. The Brothers similarly features four good friends who offer each other advice and support as they navigate the strange and treacherous waters of romantic relationships. Jackson (Morris Chestnut) is a doctor with serious commitment problems; he has dreams about a woman in a bridal gown aiming a gun at him. Brian (Bill Bellamy) is a lawyer with a caustic view of the opposite sex, inspired in large part by his untrusting and unaffectionate mother; he also has commitment problems. Upwardly mobile professional Terry (Shemar Moore) is a well-muscled womanizer who's finally decided to settle down, but as the wedding draws close it becomes clear that he, too, has commitment problems. Fortunately, the fourth member of the quartet, Derrick (D.L. Hughley), is married and devoted to his family--except that his wife refuses to engage in anything but straight missionary sex, which Derrick sees as manipulative. The Brothers depicts a glamorous world in which everyone is good-looking and well dressed; the number of characters makes it hard to delve into anyone's life with any depth, but the actors are engaging and the script makes an effort to look at the "battle of the sexes" from both sides. The immensely charming Gabrielle Union (from Bring It On) plays the girl who just might convince Jackson to give up his single ways. --Bret Fetzer
1 Great cast=Great movie!
I was bored one night so I flipped on HBO and found out this movie was on. So I watched it and now I have up in the pentheon of movie greats. My favorite character is Jackson because he's cool and someone that most of us guys can relate to. He is also responsible and consciensous and the man that everyone can count on. His parents count on him despite their divorce, his sister counts on him even though she just graduated, and his friends count on him because they have problems and they know Jack always has their backs. But what happens when Jackson runs into a serious problem of his own which is finding out his girlfriend Denise dated his father? And who does he turn to when he breaks up with Denise and later regrets it? The answer is his three friends Derrick, Brian, and Terry. Together they set out to help one another with the problems they encounter such as Derrick's impending divorce from his wife, Brian's bad luck with women and his family crisis, and Terry's reservations about marriage along with what Jackson has to deal with. They are known as "The Brothers", four close friends who stick with each other and help each other out through thick and thin. Morris Chestnut and others shine in this feel good story about love, happiness, and all that other s***.
2 Oh brother.....what a disappointment this movie is.
The Brothers tries to copy Waiting to Exhale. However that film adaptation made the same mistake this film makes: The four men do not become characters who tell their own stories; they become caricatures of types of black men we all know. These stereotypes include the misogynist, the womanizer, the family man and the nice guy who finishes last. If these are the good brothers then I'm worried. Most of these guys only cared about money, clothes, cars and sex. I wanted some dimension to their personalities that would make them into real people onscreen.
There was a great story here sadly, the writer couldn't tell it because the shallow producers decided to show pretty pictures of handsome actors wearing expensive designer clothes driving nice cars living in the lap of luxury. I wondered where the character development was. The relationships the Brothers have with the each other seemed contrived. These actors never bonded like "Brothers." There was no chemistry between them; the only thing they had in common was the paycheck they got for this film. "Brother" means someone you're very close to; I didn't get that feeling watching these four guys onscreen.
The relationships these "Brothers" have with the women in their lives seemed convoluted as well. Falling in love in this film happens overnight; there is no natural progression to the romance. Morris Chestnut's character meets Gabrielle Union in the park, in one frame they meet and the next they're in bed and in another they're in love. Their big conflict: She used to date his Father-come on! Shemar Moore's character is saying he's a reformed womanizer and is getting married after having a two-month relationship! He gets cold feet and his jilted lover comes back to attack him with a gun in the climax of the film. DL Hughley says he wants to divorce his wife for not orally pleasuring him. Bill Bellamy's character is a misogynist because his mother treated him badly. I kept waiting for the stories of these brothers to get interesting but they went nowhere at all.
I found a surprising amount of misogyny in the undertones of this movie. Why were all the women dressed in low-cut belly baring shirts? Why did the DL Hughley character feel he should divorce his wife because he wanted oral sex? Why were all the girlfriends dressed so sexy in most of the scenes? Where was the respect for the sisters? I'd like to have seen some balance in this film; show us some positive images of strong black women standing next to the images of positive black men.
I hate to give this film a bad review. I know everyone who worked on it was trying to create a positive message about responsible black men. However the whole movie comes off as shallow and half-hearted. I give props to DL Hughley, Shemar Moore Morris Chestnut, Bill Bellamy, Gabrielle Union, Tamala Jones, Marla Gibbs and the rest of the cast for their work on this film, but I really expected the writer, producers and director to do a better job with this film. Rent if you really have to see it.
3 Male version of Waiting to Exhale
Okay the movie is not fantastic, but I liked it anyway. 4 men in different stages of their relationships. I pretty much thought of the movie as a Male version of Waiting to Exhale. Jackson (Morris Chestnut) has major commitment problems. Brian (Bill Bellamy) you will eventually figure out his relationship woes are due to the relationship he had with his mom giving him his jaded views on love. Terry (Shemar Moore) finally decides to settle down, and right before the big day, he let's his commitment phobia shine through. Derrick (D.L. Hughley), is married and devoted to his family. His problem? His wife refuses to have oral sex with him, and it's causing serious isses with their relationship. The movie has some funny moment and the acting though not academy award winning was decent. I happen to love the movie and I've watched my copy a few times.
4 I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!
Why? Because it was great to finally see a movie with some brothers who weren't gang bangers, had jobs, and discuss their relationships and fears/frustrations the same way women do. I only hope that black hollywood can keep churning out movies like this because it is needed.

Morris Chestnut does a great job as usual, looking fine as ever. Shemar Moore, Bill Bellamy and DL Hughley (who is funnier here than on his own show) are fantastic as well. I'm sure you have seen/read the reviews and know the plot--so what are you waiting for? Go buy the damm DVD and check it out!

5 Didn't like it too much
I tried to get into this movie, but it just didn't click with me mainly because I don't like Gabrielle Union. She's just not a good actress to me. She's alright when she's playing the antagonist role to the main character because I don't have to like her, but when she's playing the lead role and I'm forced to cheer for her, it just doesn't work for me. But besides my dislike for Miss Union, I still didn't get into this film I guess because it was like the male version of Waiting to Exhale and being a woman I couldn't relate. Also another thing that bothered me was that the male leads didn't really mesh well together as best friends, it was like they were just forced together. Don't get me wrong I love all of the male leads, but together they just didn't click.
6 Tired knock off of The Best Man
On the heels of nice urban romances like Love Jones and The Best Man, here comes a tired retread of the same ground - The Brothers. Morris Chestnut is fine as the main lead and DL Hughley is a chuckle as a husband who can't get oral sex from his wife. The rest of the cast leaves just about everything to be desired. Bill Bellamy as Brian Palmer, horrible. A great role wasted on a not ready for prime time player. Shemar Moore as Terry White...what can I say he isn't even a good Soul Train MC so who told him he could carry anything more than a soap opera role. Gabrielle Union is credable, but the role is badly written. Tatyana Ali's role is derivative. Jenifer Lewis as Louise Smith, Morris Chestnut's mother is wonderful as always, but yet again she plays a role we have seen her play time and time again in movie and tv show after movie and tv show. Its time this actress got a good role. Catch it on cable with a few girlfriends with a few bottles of wine and laugh yourself silly over the see through plot and half-baked performances.
7 Glorified fornication passing for a movie!!
We take turns in book and movie reviews. Here is my say on this so-called movie/dvd.

The only way to enjoy this dvd is with the sound turned completely off. That's right, just watch the entire movies in silence. At least your eyes will enjoy what will otherwise torture your ears and mind.

Let's see what your ears/mind would miss. (I wish mine had.) Marital breakup over oral sex. Hmmm, oh, father and son dating same female (there are old testament laws against such). Black males and black females can't get along, what's new. And the big mouth no-talent d.l. hughley, yuck.

I knew something was wrong when all my bookclub member could say about this movie is "uh, well morris chestnut is fine." I mean that's all she could say.

Save your money on this dvd and buy a poster of Morris Chestnut, it's less expensive on time and money and mentality.

8 Please Do Not Waste your Money
Poor Acting and shallow characterers followed by a missing plot combine for a poor movie. D.L. Hugley's character is mildly entertaining, but Shemah Moore's fixation with his fiance is perplexing. I should have expected less than an intelligent, introspective, comedy about black male relationships that I was expecting.
9 Re-Tread Plot
There's really not much to say about this film. There were a few funny moments that had me laughing out loud, but overall the storyline itself is just awful. 2002's version of blackploitation. Lots of talented actors who should be working with material more worthy of their skills.
10 You're kidding me, right?
This is a waste of film. I don't know what the NAACP Image awards were thinking when they actually NOMINATED this ..against Will Smith's "Ali" for Best Film of the Year.

This "film" stole from every black film that has come out from the last 15 years. From "Jungle Fever," to "Waiting To Exhale," to "Soul Food," "The Best Man," and "The Wood" to name a few.

Heck, the first 2 minutes of it came straight from "Boyz N The Hood." Morris Chestnut is running away from someone with a gun at his back. Sound familiar? I saw that scene when I saw it at the movie theaters two years ago. Let me tell you, I was so close from yelling "RICKY!" (ala Boyz N The Hood) when I saw the first two minutes.

The only person who's funny in it is D.L. Hughley. Bill Bellamy is supposedly the bad guy in the group, but if your character's own mother doesn't show you love, can you really blame the guy for not caring about women of any race?

It's a waste of film, videotape and DVD data.

And the only reason why I gave it one star because they didn't have a symbol for zero.

PLEASE DO NOT Watch this...not even on free cable.

11 Great DVD!
When I saw the promos for this movie before it was released in theatres, I knew that I would really like this movie! It's a movie that has a lot to offer. A stellar cast, interesting storyline, drama, comedy and everything in between. It deals with the dynamics of four guys and their struggles with relationships from being single to being married. On the DVD side of things, this movie is entertaining enough to be able to watch over & over again, and not get tired of it. This is the most important thing when actually buying & not renting a movie.
If you like movies that deal with interpersonal dynamics with a little humour & drama thrown in, this movie will definitely not disappoint.
12 A Delightful film, brilliantly acted, superbly directed.
When films aren't handed massive budgets, more effort is made to tell a story well. This is the case with "The Brothers". Gary Hardwick has done a superb job crafting multi-dimensional characters and putting them in an ensemble. Morris Chestnut is outstanding, but to single Chestnut out for special praise is to not convey how brilliant the rest of the cast is and how well and seamless they all blend together. It is the perfect ensemble piece and one that isn't found often, except with Black Cinema. Seeing this film, along with Soul Food, Booty Call and numerous other films carrying a Black or multi-racial theme, I am struck by the wonderful character development these films portray. In a way these films, along with many examples of World Cinema are cut from the same cloth - the focus on character - social interactions; people caught in the act of being themselves.

I will see anything any of this cast or anything Gary Hardwick does in the future.

Forget Mainstream Hollywood - the future is with this bunch!

14 The Brothers - Black Movie
Went to see this move at the cinema, what a very good movie. If you haven't seen it yet, I personally recommend that this is a good'ne. 4 brothers altogether as one but they are so different. enjoy
15 A great movie that doesn't give in to cliches...
OK, I've seen this DVD twice, and I'll probably see it again. It's an intelligent, very funny look at the friendships (and love lives) of four professional black men searching for meaning as they near the age of 30. It's great to see black males portrayed as something other than gang-banging homeboys with bandanas in lowriders! (I'm white, BTW...) The four "brothers" get together once a week and shoot hoops and talk about their lives, loves, frustrations, fears and dreams. Woven throughout the movie, these hoops get-togethers tie the film together as we see the brothers go their different ways and deal with love, lust, temptation, marriage (one of 'em is married and another is about to jump the broom), and relationships. Just as funny, though, is the perspective given women. They are allowed a fair share of screen time so we get their perspective too. The movie flows at a nice pace and the one-liners sometimes come so fast you miss 'em. The second time around I caught a bunch I missed the first time, and I'm sure the third time around I'll catch some more. All the performances are top-notch and, again, it's sooooo refreshing to see a movie in which African American men and women don't all inhabit South Central and carry weapons. Brothers is a refreshing, funny, intelligent film -- and perfect to watch snuggled up with the one you love, because though it's about African Americans, love knows no color and we can ALL relate to some of the humor in this movie. THUMBS UP, baby!
16 Look, don't listen
The brothers are gorgeous, but the acting is awful. I guess the writing could have been better. There are some funny scenes, but other than that, just look!!
17 The Brothers
It was good to see a positive film about successful African American men. It was funny and insightful. Good movie.
18 OK movie, hated the ending
So the bride holds up the brothers, she and her man make up, and everything's okay? Yeah, right. I would have committed my ex-fiancee to the crazy house. The rest of the movie was all right though. But whoever makes an African-American movie the next time, can you make it so it doesn't look like The Wood, The Best Man, Two Can Play That Game, Booty Call, Boomerang, and so on?
19 Great DVD-movie plus more
First, let me emphasze the extra's on this DVD. There is the "Love Don't love me" music video, deleted scenes, and LOTS of commentary by the man who directed and WROTE the script. He comments on each and every actor, why they were cast, and where he was coming from in the story he tries to tell. He gives us insight into the things men think, but not always say, concerning women and their fears of committment. The whole movie, in my opinion, centers around the concept of three of the four "brothers" being single, around age 29 and not yet married or committed. As Morris puts it, "I don't have the excuse of being young and stupid." I do notice, that there is the underlying premise that being single is NOT a valid choice, and that all single guys are just looking for a piece of a**. Not so. I do have qualms with the lead couple sleeping together on the first date. Geez. This isn't a movie for kids ok...READ THE RATINGS! The role of the Mom and Dad is wonderful. They are well cast and full of wisdom from their mistakes. The four women in this movie are, at best, a little annoying, IMO. I kinda feel sorry for the guys a bit. It seems none of the women are very humble, but cocky and manipulative to get what they want, be it their way in bed, in the relationship, or the wedding they want so desperately. It's that "ain't no man gonna get over on me" attitude. The movie brings up EXCELLENT topics, and it is filled with much humor from D.L Hugley and his wife on screen, as well as from others. This is a great movie, with great music and lots of cool stuff on the DVD feature end of it. If you are like me, get ready for heated discussion about sociology when it's finished, and enjoy every minute of it!
20 A funny "R" Rated Comedy
"The Bothers" is a comedy that deserves it "R" rating. If you a offended easily with strong language or "adult themes" this isn't a film you should watch. Those things aside this movie is very funny. It does a nice job of portraying African American families - especially men - in a positive, successful light, unlike many movies today. It is a movie that is very entertaining.
21 Falls short way short
This movie is in the category of "Falls Short of Expectation" I saw this film the first day of its release and I was highly disappointed. I was looking forward to another African American film about young and talented successful men ie., "Love Jones" "Best Man" what I was left with is tired unbelievable dialouge a very predictable plot and just plain bad acting. I get the impression that Shemar Moore is only an effective actor if his shirt is off. This movie should have been wonderful but it isn't.
22 Booooo
I gotta tell you, this had to be my least favorite movie so far. I ran to see it as soon as it came out, only to find that it was the same ole "friends" movie with shallow actors. Don't get me wrong, The men were attractive but, will Shalmar ever be in anything WITHOUT taking off his shirt??
23 One Funny Film....
I saw this in the theatres when it first came out-Hysterical is the best way to describe it.
I was glad to pick up the DVD... Plus who can complain about seeing Morris Chestnut in your living room anytime you choose?
:-)
24 GOTTA LUV THA BROTHAS!
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE! (IT DOESN'T HAVE ANTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT I AM A BIG MORRIS CHESTNUT FAN) I THOUGHT THAT DL HUGHLEY DID A GOOD JOB. I DIDN'T REALLY CARE FOR SHEMAR MOORE. I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW IF HE HAD A CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT FOR SOOOO MANY SHIRTLESS SCENES.
25 Great Romantic comedy that appeals to men too!
This movie was a classic! The best romantic comedy film since "the wood". It was like a more mainstream "Whipped" and had so many classic lines like "Your momma's such a ho that she had knee pads sewed into all her dresses" and "your momma's such a slut I would have been your daddy but the line was too long" very funny and make sure you keep watching for the outtakes over the credits they are even funnier than the movie... Check it out!
26 impressed
This movie is about true friendship triumphing over a number of impositions. The friendship first between the four main characters, the brothers get over their own self pride, to realise that friendship is support, not just giving your own opinion. Morris Chestnut who plays his role extremely well is just an average man with the fears every man has, he is afraid to commit to any woman, or when he does it always seems to turn bad for him because he just doesnt give it his all. Until the ever so talented and beautiful Gabrielle Union(Denise), comes into his life. He makes it obvious that he is not interested in a relationship. This doesnt last long as sex drags its arse into it, to find out the rest u would have to watch it, you will not be disappointed, this movie is definetly for everyone. 5 thumbs up. Enjoy.
27 "BROTHER"-LY LOVE
I first saw "The Brothers" at the movie theatre in April 2001.
With a strong cast(Bill Bellamy-my cousin;Morris Chestnut;D.L.
Hugley;Shemar Moore;plus female cast members Gabrille Union
and the always hilarious Jennifer Lewis as well as the adorable
Tatayana Ali) and a good,devolpled script,"Brothers" surpassed
it's female counterpart,1995's glossy adaption of Terry Mc-
Millans' "Waiting To Exhale"(whose only strong performance came
from the masterful Angela Bassett's Bernadette) with it's a
tasty mix of romance, humor, and a look at the plight of Black families.
One thing I love about the "Brothers" is that it doesn't resort to the sterotypes(which even many well-intented Black
diretors and screenwriters sometimes do) and doesn't play along
with the tried notion of color(the darker Chestnut is persented
as an even more "sexy" presence than the lighter Moore).
Yet at first,I didn't get why they just had to play basketball.
"Is that all Black men do? Play basketball?",I thought to myself.
But then I came to the reasoning that Gary Hardwick-the director and writers of the "Brothers" -just wanted to explore a popular form of Black male bonding. So it doesn't come off as another sterotype.
So for a quality film showing for dignified Black male performers that doesn't pretend it's a "look inside the Black
Male Pysche" or gets corny(a la "Two Can Play That Game").
You gotta watch "The Brothers"
28 I am in full agreement with the review posted on 9-9-01.
...This movie is another round of mindless, glorified immorality. Even worse, this movie has an attractive setting with attractive actors (especially Morris Chestnut) but it's the same old tired WHORISHNESS that only African Americans advertise about themselves. There's NOTHING entertaining about this movie. In fact, it was nauseating. Either it's a Boys in the Hood (black on black killing) or another cheap knock off of Waiting to Exhale (Black males and Black females degrading each other). ... Tacky acting, tacky plot if any, tacky production. Better entertainment can be found in a strip joint.
29 Great DVD, okay movie.
Likeable film about 4 men who go through the trials and tribulations of relationships. Call it "Waiting to Exhale" with testosterone. Morris Chestnut and DL Hughley give performances good enough to redeem the film of its predictable script. So why the 4 stars? Because the DVD is packed with a decent bunch of extras! We get a nice running commentary by the director, deleted scenes, a featurette, a music video, and, of course, the trailer for this film and other Sony releases. The best of these features is the "Conversation with Director Gary Hardwick." He gives a very informative look at the movie; this guy is so laid back and down-to-earth, he looks like he could be your next-door-neighbor. So if you've already seen the film and liked it, you should definitely pick this one up; the wealth of features make it more than a worthy purchase.
30 This movie was bad
I was very disappointed at this movie. The typical male bull story about men who cannot (or find reasons not to) commit, the desparate woman (Jenifer Lewis) who sits back and waits for a man who she used to be married to until he's all played out. I wished I had not ordered this movie from PPV. Next time I'll ask someone.
31 EXCELLENT
A great movie with some fantastic gentlemen. A story about finding the right person for you and giving your all to them. A lot of male bonding that is funny especially with Hughley and Bellamy. Highly recommend!
32 A clunker
I'm only giving this dull, silly flick two stars because of the gorgeous Morris Chestnut. This friends coming of age theme has been done to death, and has been handled far better in other flicks than it is here. Ostensibly, this film is about 4 upwardly mobile young black males and their relationships -- with women and each other -- but most of what we see is flexing and preening and a lot of chit chatting without enough story development. How does Jack go from jumping in the bed with Denise the first day that they meet, to being on the verge of making some type of committment? How long ago had she dated his father? How long were they dating? The other relationships are not nearly interesting enough to comment on, but I will say that Bill Bellamy was particularly loathsome. Ugh! There are few things worse than bitter, self-hating dudes. And a whole subplot about the lack of head? Tres tacky.

This movie is weak, and one of my greatest complaints is that the audience is not given any sense of how much time is supposed to have elapsed. One minute, Jack's parents are divorced, but still getting it on on the DL, but somehow they wind up getting remarried. Terry dumps his fiance 2 weeks before the wedding, but they manage to stay together. Puhleeze. It does have its funny moments thanks to the hilarious D.L. Hughley, but I was disappointed in the overall product.

And finally, why is it that Black films have to be so extreme? We either get the hood flicks filled with povert and despair, or the buppie flicks where everyone is gorgeous, professional, paid and shallow. How about something about the bulk of us who are somewhere in the middle?

Memo to Hollywood: no more Black wedding flicks please. Some of us have exhaled and are ready to go the next level. There is more the life than chasing tail, obsessing over relationships and hanging with the fellas/girls. I'd love to see some of that on the big screen.

33 Funny as Hell!
I first saw this movie around the time of my birthday {Mar 26}. And ever since then, I was counting days when it was going to be available for rent/purchase. I bought it and watched it the same night. It is no wonder why DL is a "King" of Comedy. The man is brilliant with his witty repertoire and faster-than-a-speeding bullet one-liners. The man is a comic genius!! Not to mention the shenanigans of the Shemar, Morris and the ever-cynical Bill Bellamy. This movie is not a sleeper!! Go get this flick!!
34 Passable
After the recent success of films depicting African American actors I was pacing around with bated breath for the release of this film. It was okay but nothing to write home about. So many films and books portray men in a negative light and I thought the brothers would use this as an opportunity to finally have their say. What a disappointment. Denise having had a relationship with her lover's father - trashy !!, that could have come straight out of a scene of a tacky chat show. Another guy having problems because his wife wouldn't perform intimate acts - majorly immature!! One guy dating other races because he feels that sisters are losers - redundant, boring, inexcuseable behaviour !!!! Terry literally ditching his bride at the altar - It would take more than a hug for me to forgive him. The only thing that saved the film is a half decent soundtrack and the fine Morris Chestnut, other than that I wasn't particularly impressed.
35 the brothers
This is a gresat movie and i would recommend that everyone see it. It has everything that a good movie of it's callobar should have comedy, sex, betrayal and a lot more.
36 A Good Idea Gone Wrong...
Alright, this could have been a terrific film, considering that African-Americans have been getting a treasure-trove of great films in recent years (Soul Food, The Best Man, Love & Basketball, Hav Plenty).

I looked forward to seeing this DVD, but got disappointed when I saw it. Too many scenes consisted of seeing the men (or women) sit around talking about their problems. Too much talking, and not enough action. Who cares if a character walked out on his woman! If I didn't see the action, I feel like I got cheated. So, needless to say, the script left something to be desired.

Also, some of the problems seemed contrived. D.L. Hughley's character willing to separate from his wife because just wouldn't get kinky with him was unbelievable.

If you just want something to watch, then rent this, but don't buy it. If you want to buy a good Black ensemble movie, I recommend The Best Man, Hav Plenty, or even She's Gotta Have It.

37 PRETTY GOOD MOVIE ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS & FRIENDS
"The Brothers" was a well-acted film in the same ranks as "Waiting To Exhale"... for guys. Wasn't the greatest flick ever, but it definitely kept my attention while making me laugh more than a few times. Worth a viewing or two. DVD has good deleted scenes.
38 ITS ALREADY BEEN DONE!
I thought that this movie was so-so.I would have though It was great In the days of the stereotypical images of african american's In movies. It seems as If I have already seen this movie(The best man, which I liked, and the wood). Its seems as though we are In danger of repeating the mistake of the 70's blackploxtation era (same rehased storylines) except it's now the ghetto or the buppie friends finding themselves. It's time to get away from this formula and try something new.
39 Feeling The Brothers. 8.5/10
This has to be oe of the best African American film sience "Set It Off" besides "Down To Earth. This film had the best cast and the sisters I think made the film. My favorite character was Denise (Gabrielle Union) she was sexy and smart but she wasn't in the film as much as I would like to have seen her. I felt the story was good and was not boring ...."The Brothers" on the other hand is an enoyable film. The one character didn't like was Brian played by Bill Belamy, he came off like a jerk through the whole film and he is very disrespectful to woman. I feel that all races will enjoy "The Brothers" because it is a fun and real good movie with a point and motive.
40 Hysterically Funny Move, but why...

This is a movie about four men who were struggling with the women in their lives, and assigning meaning to those relationships as it related to them as individuals. It was explored within the realm of black American culture, but is relative to anyone.

Although there were important issues being examined in these characters lives, it was dealt with in a VERY funny way! I had to see the movie again to hear certain lines because the audience laughed so long and loudly that I missed several points!!

After the movie, my friends and I (males and females) discussed the various themes over coffee for 2 hrs. It caused all of us to examine ourselves, our relationships, our motives and methods more closely.

Whether you see this movie strictly for a laugh or for an examination of relationships from the male perspective, this is a must-see movie for people of all races and economic backgrounds! :)

41 So..So..Movie
This movie is not NEARLY as good as The Best Man. Shamar Moore should stay with the Soaps. Morris Chestnut, and D.L. Hugley made the movie. Everybody else was just plain boring!

If you are looking for a good movie to rent...this would be one, but not to make a part of your collection.

42 I loved this movie
This movie was one of the best movies I've seen this year. I was very much pleased with this one. Especially seeing Shemar breaking out of the Soap Opera's and into the movies, showing his true talent. This movie definitly will be coming home to me and taking a spot right along side my other favorite movies "The Wood", and "The Best Man".
43 Big Ups to "The Brothers"
The Brothers uses the mass appeal of the extremely handsome, charismatic and talented Shemar Moore and Morris Chestnut and the comic genius of D.L.Hughley and Bill Bellamy to keep you glued to your seat throughout the picture. It manages to entertain you, all the while reminding you of just how much of this story line you have experienced in your own life or the lives of those you know. The film focuses on the lives four childhood friends that each have their own issues with love, respect, commitment and relationships and how their individual triumphs and disappointments help to make them stronger, better men, friends and "Brothers". The supporting cast of Clifton Powell, Tatiana Ali, Jennifer Lewis and Gabrielle Union help to round out an already super cast.
44 those guys are buff, ruff and tuff; sho nuff.
AN eye opener for any woman who doesn't understand the psyche of the modern man. Shemar is a beautiful black man, especially without his shirt. Imagine a story whose plot is centered around four of the most gorgeous men with a very practical theme .The movie provides insight into the hard exterior of a man and an understanding of the soft inside. This is the flip side to Waiting To Exhale only more realistic. It's nice to see movies depict black men as successful individuals with a lot to offer. Can't wait for the DVD. I must own this one!
45 I LOVE THIS MOVIE
"The Brothers" is a tale of the lives for four young black men recounting their love lives. It's really inspirational and you will especially like it if you are black. Also check out "The Wood". Rated R for sexual content and language.
46 This is a keeper!
I think this is one of the best movies in theaters. Go see it and ladies, let me tell you, you will not be dissappointed!
