1 I want that collar!
I had this on tape from the Disney Channel (back in the late 80s and early 90s when they actually played some classic movies)

I'll rate the rewatchability at 7 1/2 of 10. The scenes inside the ship were a little of a joke, expecially when he made contact. The collar is a darn good idea! Wonder if they have 'em for sale on eBay :)

Btw, if you're searching for the Italian version, it's alternately titled "Il Gatto venuto dallo spazio," Albeit there evidently was either no, or very limited Home Video release in italy... It does air on Italian TV networks, so keep your eyes on the TV guide! :)
2 My favorite of all the Disney classics!
Zunar J5 Zoric 9/49 "Jake" makes an emergency landing and must fix his ship before joining his Mother Ship. Time is limited. With the help of a few humans, after shocking them a few times, he must find the material to fix his ship (I won't tell what it is and ruin it for you), get his ship back from the military (which has quarantined it for study), as well as fix the ship and get off Earth. The result is funny and lovable all at once.

***** I grew up watching this movie any time I could. When it was finally released on VHS I purchased my copy quickly. I also wore it out...TWICE. I have purchased, over the years, most of the Disney animated movies, but few of the un-animated classics. And I have never worn out a video tape before, much less twice. So DVD is a must for me.

My son is in his middle teen years. As a mom, I was delighted to share this movie with him as a child. Now, it is one of his fond memories of spending time with me and a bowl of popcorn. Just us and Jake.

This movie is clean fun. It is perfect for any age, from 4 to 104. Know someone who loves classic movies? About about a Disney fan? Or how about a cat person who treats their cat(s) like part of the family? Well, then this DVD would make a perfect gift for any occassion.

Highly recommended to one and all. *****

3 Before E.T...!
A genuinely smart and entertaining comedy sci-fi film from Disney that is low-key, to the point, and delivers on a modest scale. An alien cat's (named Jake) spaceship crashlands on earth and the ship is retrieved by the military. Jake eludes the military and seeks out help by revealing himself to an astro-physicist (Ken Berry as Frank) who happens to work at the military base where the spaceship is incarcerated. Seems that a modest amount of gold is just the thing needed to repair the lame spaceship. So, Jake uses his alien telekinesis (powered from a collar around his neck) to manipulate the outcomes of a few sporting events to place bets on. Then, win enough cash to buy the right amount of gold and repair the spacecraft. In the meantime, the military, gangsters, and gamblers are on the chase of the elusive alien cat. Ken Berry is excellent as Frank the astro-physicist playing a variation of another Disney character, Prof. Ned Brainard (played by Fred MacMurray) from THE ABSENT-MINDED PROFESSOR. Good support work from Sandy Duncan, McLean Stevenson, Harry Morgan (the two Colonels from tv's MASH!! in the same film) & Roddy McDowell as they round out this inventive Disney family fare that has the right amount of decent special effects and comic situations. Comic actor Ronnie Schell ("Duke" of tv's GOMER PYLE) provides the voice for Jake the Cat and also plays a supporting role as one of the military personnel (Sgt Duffy) after Jake the Cat. One funny note is that when Schell as Sgt. Duffy has any lines, his voice is dubbed over by another actor. His voice was so distinct and the producers found it fit to overdub his lines as to not confuse moviegoers. Note: Look for character actor James Hampton ("Caretaker" in THE LONGEST YARD)in a support role. He co-starred with Ken Berry in the classic tv series/western spoof F-TROOP.
4 A cute little move
When I was a little girl this movie was played every Thanksgiving on local TV. The movie really caught my eyes because the lead character was an orange cat from outer space. The movie is your usual Disney fair; no swearing, violence, or adult situations, and is suitable for all children and many adults.
The cat, a lovely Absymian named Jake, crashes on earth and seeks the help of a scientist and his quirky friends. The army gets involved, but not expecting a cat, get very confused very quickly. If you have a cat lover in your family who likes fun, campy romps, this one is sure to please!
5 A great movie for cat lovers
I loved this movie when I was a kid. I have it on VHS currently and cant wait to get a copy on DVD.
6 2nd Release - Anamorphic Format
Why would Disney do this second release of The Cat From Outer Space (first DVD release was in 1999) without going to "Family Friendly" anamorphic format?

Why would anyone want a non-anamorphic format? The quality is drastically lower.

7 What happened to jake & Co?
Hey what's the deal !? I can't believe this dvd is out of print are they out of their minds? i mean first they release this title on vhs then on dvd & then something was wrong with the dvd i guess , because they made an upgrade or just to the cover & then it's out of print explain that to me?. i was hoping to buy a copy of my own , but i can't because someone decided to pull the plug thanks alot. i really enjoy this story as a kid jake the cat from another universe ken berry play a kindhearted scientist that is thrown into a adventure when go to help jake get back his planet that's when the fur starts flying. i do i hope it comes back into print.

10 Childhood Favourite
What more can i say? my title kind of says it all! Loved this film from the beginning, and for the past years have been desperatly trying to find a copy... had it on Beta Max (if anyone can remember them), and searched in shop after shop till I thought of Amazon! i deffinatly recommend this film to anyone... no matter what your age. Just a good clean, fun, funny, and 'actiony' film.
11 Good Movie
Its funny & you just don't know how exactly it will end but all & all its an older movie.A cat named Jake has to land on earth when his space ship breaks down. The space ship is found and taken away by the government who start to worry about strange beings finding their way to the white house & causing the downfall of the USA.Meanwhile Jake finds a brillant but not well known scientist to help Jake make repairs to his ship. What happens next? You really wanna know?If so buy the movie!
12 A great film. Well worth finding.
A bright light in the sky and the appearance of an unearthly space vehicle heralds the arrival on this blue-green world of....a cat.

But Zunar J5, or Jake, is actually an alien life form whose craft is in need of repair. Before long he manages to find help in the form of an under-valued scientist, his would-be girlfriend and gambling-addict colleague. This film combines clever science fiction (the theory of electrical currents in the air harnessed by a collar made of an alien element), interesting characters and a well-thought-out storyline make this great entertainment for anybody.

13 Great movie!
It's pleasing to see so many positive reviews for this movie that was made at a time when Disney was not quite considered...up to par. Which is an unfair statement! There were several very entertaining films made by the studio in the 70's! Even if they did lose a little something special without Walt, they still are great and in a class all their own that can only be considered 70's Disney. I'm just saying, that's not as bad a class to be in as some people think! The Dexter Riley trilogy for example! Those are the Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Now You See Him Now You Don't, and The Strongest Man in the World, all starring teen Kurt Russel as well. I love those! The movies Disney made at that time were still Disney clean, and still Disney fun! In a cheezy way maybe, but so what! This movie is a great one, and yet, still not one of the best from the time, but I do recommend it to Disney fans, people who like clean, funny movies, and cat lovers of course!
14 One of my favorite flicks - then and now
The Cat From Outer Space... this was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid that came from the very early 80s. Talking felines, flying bug-like spaceships, a very 'lite sci fi' plot that you can sink your teeth into... I think the Disney Channel (back when it wasn't just low budget pre-teen fare) showed this movie atleast two or three times a month and I probably watched it each time. After nearly a decade later or more, I saw it again for the first time about two years ago and was delighted, it was still a fun flick to take in over some popcorn. Just ignore some of the cheesy effects and you'll make it through fine. A 'gateway' sci fi film that serves as the portal to getting into 'harder sci fi' with bigger spaceships, planetary attacks on earth, giant buglike space aliens and all that good stuff.
15 WHAT A GREAT MOVIE
This is a perr-fect movie to buy. Kids as well as adults will enjoy this movie. It is one of Walt Disneys greatest. Don't wait any longer, buy this movie right now!
16 Purr-fectly delightful family entertainment. . . .
His name is Zunar J5 Zoric 9/49, but everyone just calls him Jake. His home planet is never identified, but they must have some beautiful felines there if this talented extraterrestrial abyssinian is their ambassador.

Actually, Jake just comes to Earth because of maintenance problems on his space-going scout ship. After arriving, he teams up with a superb comic cast, including Ken Berry, Sandy Duncan, MacLean Stevenson, Harry Morgan and Roddy McDowell for some of the zaniest adventures you or your children will ever enjoy. Just for good measure, Jake brings along the most unique flea collar ever made, and therein lies most of the story.

Jake only needs a small amount of a fairly common substance (on his planet) to repair his ship. Unfortunately, that common substance turns out to be about $120,000 worth of gold. Needing that kind of material help in a short period of time provides the vehicle for a madcap comedy.

The Cat from Outer Space isn't a classic, but it's close, and it's wonderful entertainment that you can be comfortable letting your children watch without supervision. You won't even mind when they ask to see it again and again. You'll probably watch, too!

Highly recommended for Disney fans and Cat Lovers everywhere.

17 Cat from Outer Space
When I first saw it I loved it because of the cat speaking and having special powers from the necklace. Even though its old it's worth seeing because you wonder, if cats could talk what would they say. If you deciding on wether or not to see it, then you should just go watch it.
18 This Disney stuff gets crazier every time I see it!
More Disney madness with a top secret government project and a cat who lands to Earth from Outer Space co-insiding with each other. That Darn Cat couldn't even compare to this laugh-fest! If you even half-liked "Escape From Witch Mountain", you will LOVE this movie, just like me.
19 Buy this movie!
You know, I'm a 20yr old college student and I remember seeing this for the first time when I was like 6. Its still as awesome as the first time I saw it! However old you are, GET THIS MOVIE!
20 meow
My Gf thought the movie was very cute. Definately for kids, not so much for adults...but any animal-lovers will enjoy it.
21 Great movie...
I named my cat "Jake," after the cat in the movie...What more can I say?
22 Absolutely precious for boys and girls---as well as parents!
Very cute movie!! Any cat lover needs to see this movie! My kids want to rent it at the video store all the time! It was one of those good old movies that they don't make anymore!!
