1 Very Informative for Anyone Considering Lasik
This book is packed with answers. I feel like a mini-expert on Lasik now. I found the author's website for anyone interested:

2 The Eye Laser Miracle : The Complete Guide to Better
This book is extremely informative! It pretty much answered every question I had regarding LASIK, in a very objective and easy-to-understand manner. In fact, I was so impressed by Dr. Caster that I scheduled an initial (and free) consultation, to see if I was a candidate. Turns out I was, and after a more thorough pre-op exam, including an unanticipated trip to a retinal specialist (they saw something they wanted checked out and preferred a specialist's seal of approval), I went through with the LASIK procedure. I can't praise this book enough, for giving me helpful information that made me a better, more informed patient. I felt very much in control -- well, as much as I could be, under the circumstances; and that, I think, should be any patient's ultimate objective, regardless of the medical procedure.
3 Excellent description of a miraculous new medical procedure!
Dr. Caster describes in detail the LASIK procedure, a miraculous new laser eye surgery that can cure nearsightedness and astigmatism. After I read the book, I had Dr. Caster operate on my eyes, and I have now thrown away my glasses. This is 21st-century medicine delivered in the 20th century!

5 Very Informative,answers all you pre-lasik questions
I was very hesitant to have lasik done and after reading Dr. Caster's book, I felt much more sure of the procedure. This was like a bible to me before and after the procedure. It was not too wordy,in fact it was straight and to the point, unlike other books about medical procedures. Anyone who is considering lasik should buy this book. It is also very reasonably priced and not as wordy as some of the other books I saw.You don't need a long, expensive book....you simply need what Dr. Caster has done, a very informative book that answers all your questions and gives you very honestly, the pros and cons of the procedure.I have given this book to many friends who were so grateful to have this information right at their fingertips.Glasses off to Dr. Caster!!!
6 informative, insightful, concise
As someone thinking about having laser vision correction, I was looking for a source of information that was concise but informative. I found that in this book. Dr. Caster clearly has dealt with thousands of patients, because he seemed to answer my questions along the way in a very readable and logical format. In one-and-a-half short and enjoyable hours of reading, I felt I was prepared to make a decision about having this procedure.
7 This book is a rip off!
After doing my internet research on vision correction I decided to buy a book and started with this one because it was cheap, proving you [don't] get what you [don't] pay for. This book is nothing but the most basic primer and not a very good one at that. Most chapters are 2-5 short pages. The "chapter" on complications is only 12 paragraphs! The back third has lots of lists of things like address of laser manufacturers (which I don't need to know), a glossary (which isn't necessary) and lists of medical journals and medical text books (which I probably wouldn't understand even if I could get my hands on them). It is written by a doctor whose goal is obviously to sell himself and his procedure, not give people balanced information so they can make up their own mind. The next book I bought was Beyond Glasses by F. Armstrong. It costs a bit more, but it is 400 pages of the most solid information I have found so far, including the medical research broken down so real people like me can understand it and the experiences of lots of actual patients (both positives and negatives). Just for comparison, the section on the side effects and complications of just one of procedures discussed in Beyond Glasses is 39 pages long including 8 stories told by real patients (it even has their pictures!) illustrating their different problems. All the other chapters are just as complete with many positive case stories too. The book is reader friendly with a nice layout and natural humor, real authority and tons of good illustrations. So my advice is skip the Caster book and go directly to Beyond Glasses. It'll save you money in the long run and you'll find yourself referring to it as you work your way through the medical process and recovery period. There were times it felt like my best friend.
8 The Eye Laser Miracle
This book was very interesting. If you are nearsighted, also check out the book "The Myopia Myth - The Truth About Nearsightedness and How To Prevent It".
9 Doctors always promote their own specialites.
I have to disagree with the reviewer/ reader. This book offers the kind of " reassurance" you'd expect from a doctor who makes a good living performing 'archaic' refractive surgeries. It simply glosses over some of the most important patient related topics ( like pain, side effects, complications, and longterm danger ). I've learned a few costly lessons over the years about following a doctors advise. Do your research using free doctors websites before you invest in this book. There are other options available.
10 A good buy... useful information.
This book is a good resource, and one that I recommended to my patients when I was on staff at Harvard Medical School (Dept Ophthalmology) where I trained in LASER VISION CORRECTION and LASIK with the top leaders in the field. They also found the book useful and recommended it... although there are more substantial books out there today. But if you want a simple and cheap introduction to this facinating subject.. buy it. But if you have more complex questions about what laser system to use, astigmatism and the NEW treatments for farsigtedness.. then contact a specialist.

Quote of the Day:

The astronomer Francesco Sizi, a contemporary of Galileo, argues that

Jupiter can have no satellites:

There are seven windows in the head, two nostrils, two ears, two
eyes, and a mouth; so in the heavens there are two favorable stars, two
unpropitious, two luminaries, and Mercury alone undecided and indifferent.
From which and many other similar phenomena of nature such as the seven
metals, etc., which it were tedious to enumerate, we gather that the number
of planets is necessarily seven. [...]
Moreover, the satellites are invisible to the naked eye and
therefore can have no influence on the earth and therefore would be useless
and therefore do not exist.

Q: What happens when four WASPs find themselves in the same room?
A: A dinner party.
