1 What Great Memories ! :-) LOL !
Vooooooooooooooooooooooolare ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ wo wo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ !

Who can't forget Robert Wuhl ( Newbomb Turk ) in that hilarious fart scene ! That was the show stealing moment right there ! Don't forget Lawrence , Lawrence of Arabia , He's an English guy . He came to fight the Turkish !

I have never laughed so hard in my life when I first saw Hollywood Knights on HBO 20 years ago and I love to see it again and again ! I will save it for my son when he becomes old enough to understand the content in about another 12 years !

Good house party movie too ! Get your copy today and DON"T DRINK THE PUNCH ! LOL !!
2 Go Newbomb, go Newbomb
I'm delighted to see that so many people love this movie! I saw it several times when it first came out and waited way too long before it showed up on cable. The real star of the movie is Robert Wuhl who is dead on FUNNY! And I would say the best co-stars are the cars and the culture of 1965 Southern California. I am lucky enought to have experienced the Drive-In experience during my high school days and though we had lots of fun, a night like the October 30, 1965 at Tubbys would be one for the books. The movie runs easily from gag to gag with little time for a breather. The serious moments are few and well played. Of course Duke and Suzie will eventually break up and we hope Jimmy comes back from Viet Nam to enjoy his ride and hang out with Smitty and the boys. But until all that is known let's raise hell on Halloween! I'm glad there was never a sequel to this movie because this special kind of fun can only happen once in a life time.
3 Starring Michelle and Tony? Cut me a break!
The real star of this movie is Robert Wuhl, whose Newbomb Turk character steals the show. This is the kind of movie that had an inexplicably short life in the first run theatres before trickling down to the local "buck-a-seat" houses. That was where I first saw Hollywood Knights, on a night when I was so bored that I took a chance on a no-name comedy and parted with my hard earned dollar. I've rarely recieved so much bang for my buck since. If you like this one, give it's fellow classics Spring Break and Porky's a chance also.
4 A riot and well-deserving of all of the praise
Can it really be nearly a quarter of a century since I first saw this riotous film during it's initial theatrical release in early 1980? For years afterwards I had to content myself with watching it on and taping it from HBO and Cinemax, all the while wondering why it had never been made available on home video. Now, I am quite happy to say that I own the film on both VHS and DVD. I am stunned but not surprised by all of the reviews raving about this wonderfully funny film. Although Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer are given top-billing, they are overshadowed by the hilarious and talented Robert Wuhl as Newbomb Turk, the little-known at the time, Fran Drescher as Sally and Stuart Pankin as Dudley Laywicker. The two bumbling Laurel-and-Hardy-like Beverly Hills police officers are also extremely funny. It has a great soundtrack of classic 1960's music, some great-looking 1960's cars, some great-looking women and also well-captures the flavor and the spirit of the 1960's. It is for everyone who has ever hung-out at the local drive-in, gone cruising and longed to return to a simpler time. The DVD, while it does offer a great looking transfer of the film, in both fullscreen (pan-and-scan) and widescreen (letterbox) versions, it is surprisingly and unfortunately double-sided. Curiously, it also features "bonus" trailers of a few later Michelle Pfeiffer films, but absolutely no trailers whatsoever for The Hollywood Knights!! This is one of the funniest films I have ever seen, along with Smokey And The Bandit, The Odd Couple, Dragnet and Planes, Trains And Automobiles. If you love The Hollywood Knights, I wholeheartedly recommend checking out the 1982 film Losin' It (another one of my favorites), starring Tom Cruise, Jackie Earle Haley and Shelley Long. It is very similar in tone and humor. What a pity there were never any sequels made to The Hollywood Knights!!
5 Danza and Pfeiffer?
I find it ironic that Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer grace the cover of this DVD. Hands down, that honor belonged to Robert Wuhl whose Newbomb Turk character made this movie the classic that it is. Danza and Pfeiffer have bit parts as the "love interest" and their story does little to move this flick along, but I guess they were the prettiest and most recognizable faces in the movie. (Well, Michelle's was.) I'm proud to say that I actually paid money to see this in it's original theatre run, and that for years one of my proudest posessions was a taped copy from Cinemax. To this day, my brother and I can still get a laugh from each other by simply saying "Lawrence......Lawrence of Arabia". This video release was long overdue.
6 Hilarious
The first time I saw this movie, my mother was watching it. She was laughing hysterically. She told me what the movie was about and I laughed along with her. This was about twenty years ago on HBO. Since then, my wife has purchased this movie for me as a Christmas gift. I still watch it occasionally. It is the funniest movie that I have ever seen. I feel it's much better than "American Graffiti", as that movie tends to be slow at times.
7 excelent
This movie was great and if you are a Fran Drescher fan , even though she does't have a big part she was still great, you will love this movie !! buy it today
8 Hollywood Knights
Loved this movie! Tony Danza-totally hot! Want to know-WHEN IS THE SOUNDTRACK GOING TO BE AVAILABLE??? Gotta have it!
9 Best Film Since Rocky Horror Picture Show
Hollywood Knights is one of the best films I've ever seen. It has everything a good film needs romance, comedy, and its serious moments. It also has those, sweet!, muscle cars that all guys love.... if you haven't seen it i sugest you see it so and if you have seen it then get it and if you have it then follow the crowed and DON"T DRINK THE PUNCH!!!!
10 Hilarious Freakin Movie
Laughed my ... off. Michelle Pfeifer was absolutely gorgeous.
11 Why Isn't This a Mainstream Classic?!
I discovered this film on cable when I was still in high school (the 80's) and I kept waiting for everyone else to catch onto this little gem. In the style of Animal House and American Grafitti and Porky's this hilarious fifty's film captures all the innocence and vulgarity of the 50's on it's way out in the wake of the Viet Nam War.I love the fact that so much of the film's basic story line could have been an (edited) episode of "Happy Days", yet the most hilaroius moments of the movie could only be viewed along side of Animal House or American Grafitti. It is silly and nostalgic and just plain unforgettable.

The story follows a club car and the last night its hang out drive-in is open. There are pledge antics following a local radio station (hosted by DJ Wolfman Jack), teen love as someone is shipping out to Viet Nam, Cheerleader panks, promiscuous teenage sex, fart jokes, drunken antics, bumbling cops, and lots of 50's cultural references. Michelle Pfeiffer as an aspiring actress is stunning and fabulous as a 50's car hop goddess (WHY did she follow this up with Greasee 2?!?!). And I still can't watch HBO's Arliss without seeing Robert Wohl as Newbaum Kirk. Freaking classic as his debut film role!I actually heard a recent interview where he said despite all his work since and fame as Arliss people still stop him and say , "Hey! Newbaum Kirk!".

There are a lot of now major stars making their early debuts (most notably Robert Wuhl-Arliss, Michelle Pfeiffer- uh everything!,Fran Dresser- The Nanny/Saturday Night Fever, and Tony Danza... well, you know!) This film really does combine the best bits of previously mentioned Animal House and American Grafitti and Porky's. Don't look for Oscar performances or deep life-lessons here, but know that this film will make you laugh over and over and over again no matter how many times you watch it! Classic gags and and laugh out loud jokes make this film one to own (note: the fart scene to "Volare'!) "Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabiaaaa... he was an English guyyyyy!"

12 A little bit 'American Graffiti', a little bit 'Porky's.....
... This flick about a car-gang, the Hollywood Knights, having themselves a major blast on the final night before their main hangout, Tubby's Drive In (Home of the BIG ONE) gets closed down by some conservative Beverly Hills beauracracy - - - -, could very well be the funniest movie of all-time as well as the greatest CAR-movie ever (it's an absolute SIN that it isn't even in MSN's Top 10 car-movies). 'Graffiti', as classic and deservingly so as it is, is a bit too politically-correct, PG-rated, a la Ron Howard/Cindy Williams. 'Hollywood Knights', however, gets STRAIGHT-TO-THE-POINT comedically even if a bit crude at times although not quite as crude as 'Porky's. Though the movie does 'star' Tony Danza (perhaps to sell more tickets at the time being that 'Taxi' was a current hit in 1980) and a young up-and-coming Goddess, Michele Pfieffer, it's simply ROBERT WUHL's rendition of NEWBOMB TURK that far-and-away steals the show and then some. For me to tell you just how hysterical this character is throughout the movie, I would not be able to finish beneath the 1,000-word-limit. That is why you simply have to get this one and see it for yourself. Yes, and to think that in the director's narrative (very worth listening to, by the way) it is told that Wuhl (this being his first role) was actually 'shy' and 'nervous' during shooting; amazing. Let's not forget Fran Drescher's role in this as well. Apart from being easy on the eyes, she is also such a trip; a real funny lady ("Did you come?! You're so inmatuue!!") 'Knights' is practically non-stop laughs and pranks throughout with the exception of the movie every now and then shifting to the cheesy love-plot between Danza and Pfieffer's characters (perhaps installed just to give the viewer a short break from laughing to death). Other, but more forgiveable, 'breaks' from the ongoing tomfoolery in the movie also include focusing on one of the Knights (played by the one who ended up on 'Alien Nation' years later) going off to Vietnam the next day. This segment of the movie's plot is an example as to why this flick is more than just laughs-galore but also touches on the end of an era. Conviently taking place on Halloween 1965, the viewer can feel THE 60s creep in as the movie goes on, whether it be the fact that there are ONLY FOUR Hollywood Knight-pledges wanting to initiate themselves into the car-gang when in years past, as Danza's character put it, "when I was in junior high school, everyone wanted to be a Knight", or whether it be the 8-TRACK PLAYER put into one of the hot-rods playing 'California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas, or whether it be the young high-school street-surfer being told at Tubby's by his older peers to 'cut his hair', or whether it be the 'treat' that the street-corner do-woppers gave the four Knight-pledges while singing 'Under the Boardwalk', and simply the fact that A DRIVE-IN WAS CLOSING DOWN. Just like 'Fast Times' touches up on the 80s before the 80s BECAME the 80s (MTV) and just like 'Wayne's World' touched up on a time in the early 90s when metal-heads still had their thing going in the face of Nirvana and Pearl Jam (and Ugly Kid Joe??), 'Knights' focused on a fraternity of 60s high-schoolers that were still hanging onto the 50s just before finally having no choice but to drop (no pun intended) into the turbulent times of the day. 'Dudley', the 'nerd' of the flick ("Mother, I knooow! I knooow!), was a rather funny role as well and it was cool that the Knights ended up accepting him after putting him through an 'initiation' in itself. They allowed him the opportunity to have 'a life' well before the last day of school whereas the T-birds (in 'Grease') never accepted Eugene, even at the time of the carnival. This is definitely why...KNIGHTS RULE!
13 ONE OF THE FOUR BEST MOVIES OF ALL-TIME!!!
I seriously PITY anyone who doesn't agree with this; especially someone who don't agree with this WHO'S ACTUALLY SEEN the movie! I recently looked at 'The Wizard of Oz', 'It's a Wonderful Life', and 'Star Wars' as the three best flicks of all-time (not necessarily in any particular order), but ever since I got 'Hollywood Knights' on DVD for Christmas last month and have seen it ever some more times since I first became familiar of it all them years ago, I would HAVE to say that it DOES join in the Top-FOUR (neither of the quartet in any particular order). The flick is just so POWERFUL to me! Yes, the flick has a bit of 'Porkys', 'Animal House', and 'American Grafitti' inspiration, but the thing is......is that it's BETTER than ANY of them flicks! BETTER than 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High', BETTER than 'Sixteen Candles' or ANY of the awesome brat-pack flicks, BETTER than 'Dazed and Confused'; etc, etc, etc......HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS RULES!! Plain and simple. 'American Grafitti', as classic as it is (and it is INDEED a classic, and deservingly so), is a little too politically-correct/PG-rated ala Richy Cunningham/Shirey (Happy Days). Hell, Lucas already is in my Top-4 flicks of all-time anyway. 'Knights' is a little more lewd, but much more to-the-point than 'Graffiti' as far as straight-comedy is concerned. Tony Danza and Michele Phiefer are the two 'stars' of the flick (most-likely because the movie wanted to sell more tickets being that Tony was already known for starring in 'Taxi' at the time and that Phiefer was a budding-star and EVER-so a Goddess - and is she EVER, EVER-so a Goddess in this flick; oh my!!), but it really is Robert Wuhl (in his first ever role) who completely steals the flick with his non-stop, endless comedy tactics as the role of Newbaum Turk. Too, too, TOO funny he is! He just rules!! And to think (acccording to the director's take) that he actually was 'nervous', 'shy' when this flick was being done. I can't even TELL you just how much of a trip he is throughout this flick without keeping you for 3 hours so I will simply just have to tell you to get this flick and see it for yourself. He practially REINVENTED comedy-relief in this cult-classic. This is one of Fran Drescher's first roles as well. Not only is she, as well, hot-as-hell in it but she also shows just how cool, fun, and spunky she can be as well. Fran rules! However, this flick isn't only a strictly funny flick with practical jokes galore (ala 'Porkys'), but it definitely takes you back to a crossroads of an era - an era that not only is of the most significance of the 20th century, but the most significant decade in AMERICAN HISTORY (the 1960s) - most drastic! Haloween 1965 is when this classic takes place, and although the 60s was already 'the 60s' when this flick took place, there were still many circles throughout the country that were still feeling the 50s (hot-rod clubs, greasers in leather jackets, etc). Despite the colorful 60s-friendly soundtrack, not a single Beatles or Dylan song was in it. The Hollywood Knights was a hot-rod club that was spending it's last night before their main hangout, Tubby's Drive In - Home of the Big One, would get closed down by some conseravative Beverly Hills beauracracy crap. Play as many practical jokes as possible before closing down, ala Neubaum, would be their game. One can actually feel the LATE 60s creep in as the movie went on. That character, one of the Knights, (who ended up playing in 'Alien Nation') who was going to Vietnam the next day and everyone in the flick wondering if the 'Knights' were going to stay together after the closing of Tubby's and the car which they were going to save for him when he came back home (with an EIGHT-TRACK inside - 'California Dreaming' playing ), only FOUR guys trying to initiate themselves into the 'Knights' instead of many more like in years past and having to run naked through Watts - when it wasn't quite what it would become - and request a song on the local radio station to Tubby's then make it back to Tubby's by 2AM are ALL examples of this change in the era. Even if you weren't around in this very very turbulant era, you can for sure feel it in this flick; and laugh out loud all at the same time. Just like 'Fast Times' marked a time just before the 80s became...MTV and just like 'Wayne's World' marked a time when metal-heads were still doing their thing when Cobain and Pearl Jam (Ugly Kid Joe) were already making their mark, 'Hollywood Knights' marked that time just before the 60s, indeed, BECAME THE SIXTIES. This movie simply offers you everything, without boring you for a second. Even the cheesy love plot between Danza and Phiefer have something to offer, whether it is with the help of such powerful 60s songs like 'Out of my Head' or just the fact that the two wanted to simply do something else with their lifes; MOVE ON (to, perhaps, the LATE 60s). Like 'Grease' (obviously a super-classic), what made the movie a total blast wasn't just the 'nerd' of the movie getting picked on and the odd way in which he acted ('mother, I knooooow'; 'I need my puffer'), but everything else besides it (ESPECIALLY Wuhl); but what makes this one even BETTER, is that Dudley at least ended up getting EXCEPTED where as Eugene even on the last day of school (carnival) was still not liked by the others. 'Hollywood Knights' is simply one of the four best flicks of all-time and if you see it for yourself and don't agree, I truly, TRULY feel sorry for you. I do. KNIGHTS RULE!

PS - And for those who do see it for yourselves and AGREE, I expect you to say, "Thanks.....maaaaaaaan."

15 Great cars
Beautiful cars and very funny. I own this movie and I've seen it 100's of times and it still makes me laugh. I give it 1 thumb up cause I only have 1 thumb he he.
16 Great Flick!!!!!!
i saw this film when it 1st came out in 1980, I was crying from laughing so hard, I was so glad to see it on VHS after all these years. Newbomb Turk is a riot, one prank after another, lots of famous people in this movie, Danza, Pfifer, Wuhr, also the fat cop in the bathroom scene went on to play a sheriff in Mississippi Burning in 1988, dont remember his name though. I dont remember Fran Dresher from this film, have to watch it again. Highly Recommended, great party movie or if you need cheering up,a good movie to get your mind off your problems for an hour or so....
17 Crazy fun
this is a fun movie, one hilarious scene after another, a time when things were simple. not since American Graffiti has there been a movie where it brings back memories of a time in all our lives where we went to the local hangout with friends and made great memories. We have all known someone like Newbaum Turk, the guy who gives us Comic relief, one that looks like he is going nowhere in life but at a 20 year reunion he is the one that has made it to the top. great movie, fun to watch where later on you see the ones cast in the movie who later went on to be big stars that have given us more entertainment to enjoy.
18 Sh-Boom
I have just found this movie available and will have it immediately. I first saw the movie about 12 years ago and have looked for it over the years, but to date have only a copy from HBO to show for my efforts. This has to be the funniest movie of all times and I put it in a catagory by itself, one of a kind. To see some of the actors who have gone on to become big stars is incredible. Maybe they should have done a follow-up to this one. I can whole heartedly recommend this to all young and old adults alike. I even let my 13 year old son watch it, of course, I censored some of the parts until he is at least 21.........lol. Being a baby boomer myself, this film takes me back to the way many things were in the mid 60, just as I was getting out of high school, and I thank the producers and whoever for a great film.
19 Finally released!
This movie became a cult classic amongst my group of buddies back in high school (late 1980's). My best friend's older brother had a tape version off UHF and we would watch it every couple of months, in fact we still use some of the fantastic one liners from this film.
Since the release 5 copies have found their way to 5 very happy guys. A few of us had been searching for this for years.
Anyway, you can see some of todays stars early in their careers in a great comedy. A little tamer version of Porky's but with stars and hot cars.
Music is great and the jokes are moronic- which is perfect.
Great film.
20 Still Love it after all the years.
I'm a big fan of Robert Wuhl.Looking foward to the start of Arliss on HBO this summer. I watch the copy of the movie I have from a 19 year old video, taped from HBO in 1983.Been waiting to get a VHS copy but never could find one around. Saw a segment about ARliss on EXTRA today (June 14)and decided to check a DVD store and found it now availible. Cool!!!!! I'm glad to have it & I have highly recommended this fun comedy to several people who loved it after seeing it.

2 years ago in Toronto Canada,I found & bought an original movie poster with the licence plate over the butt picture that I saw in the theater when I saw the movie when it came out in 1980.So this DVD is great to own.

21 This 2000 Edited Reprint lacks original hillarious material.
I really enjoyed this film in its debut in 1980. It was one of the funniest films of its genre. In 1996, I and many of my friends would call every Blockbuster and later Hollywood video store in the state if they had 'The Hollywood Knights'. Most claimed they had movies titled, 'Hollywood Nights', but not the 'Knights' we grew up with and enjoyed. Well, something clicked with Columbia Pictures and the music buisness realizing the marketplace of the '80s generation. Almost everything we knew of from our highschool years is for sale now, great. However, there is a catch. Political Correctness and the, then no-name actors of the these movies. Many scenes in this particular movie have been cut out in the republishing process. Either out of PC, or pressure from the now, big names of the actors of today who don't want to be embarrassed by what they did in this film. What a shame. We are paying top dollar for a scrubbed teen classic. There are several other "new" VHS and DVDs of old films out today that are also scrubbed of good entertainment. If you can get a viewing of this movie in its original form, check it out and see all you missed with this sad reproduction. This review refers to both the VHS and DVD version.
22 Yeah its cool
I love this movie. It reminds so much of Animal House, and if you liked Animal House you wll love this. One of my favorite movies of all time
23 HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS RULE!
This movie was the movie acting debut of Tony Danza,Michelle Pfiffer and Robert Wohl. This movie is mostly funny, just a notch below Animal House as far as laughability. Watch out for the one armed violinist. Parents beware, there is a good amount of nudity and provocotive language.
24 Memory Lane.
Maybe I wasn't old enough to remember, but this film sure shows it like what I imagined it would be. The end of the 50's innocense, and the start of a whole new America: for better, and for worse. Watch the two worlds; established authority, and rebellious youth, clash in some of the most hilarious situations brought to the screen. See the 50' fade, while the Hollywood Knights do their level best to preserve a dying lifestyle with pranks, public obscenity, and farting. This is Animal house meets Happy Days, with a bit of ominous "coming of age" stuff thrown in to put a little tear in your eye. Personally, I could have done without the whole "Vietnam foreshadowing" thing, or the mushy romance sidlines, but as I see it, this film wants to make a little statement, while it keeps you laughing. So get a taste of what the good life used to be like. This film should keep you entertained all the way through.
25 Lawrence of Arabia it Ain't
This movie is hilarious. Of course, it help if you saw it at a drive in movie theater in the '80s. I was a hero when I showed up with a copy at a reunion of my high school and college friends who I originally saw the movie with.

However, if you have never seen the movie - you probably won't like it. It's a silly movie and has some funny moments - but not everyone's cup of tea.

Now if I could only find my puffer.

26 Hollywood Knights - A Blast from the past
A look at the wacky world of 1965. With Hot Rods and Hot Girls and of course the Hollywood Knights. A car club who ruled Tubby's Drive in with their Zany antics. If you are over the age of 40, this movie will certainly bring back memories..
27 worst Michele phiffer and tony danza movie
I was curious to see this when it first came out on video a few months ago, I am a constant movie buyer, And I am so glad I didn't buy it, It is trash I think they could've sone more with it, I can't believe michele phiffer did this movie, I guess she was desperate. Desperate times calls for desperate measures, I was so dissapointed in this movie,

This is a buyer beware movie Don't but in despearation!

28 Much Better Than American Graffiti!
The impression that you come away with from Hollywood Knights is one of a lot of young people out to have a good time. Maybe because it isn't burdened by the likes of Ron Howard, Wolfman Jack or a tired soundtrack, this video moves quickly and is a ton of fun to watch. It will bring back all those wonderful memories of high school as you wish it had happened. Great fun.
29 Yes It's Trash, But Funny Trash!
Okay folks, all you fans of Lawrence Olivier and Gone With The Wind-THIS AIN'T FOR YOU! This is good old fashioned, crude, low-grade, politically incorrect leave your manners at the door FUN! The initiation of the fat guy with glasses, the cops adding lyrics to "Lawrence of Arabia" and yelling HORSE----T at the neighborhood meeting, the taping in the ladies room, the "finger violin" gag, the punch "having a little wang to it!" the guy whose "pants fit him like a glove." Laughs galore here folks, a crude comedy classic. VO-LA-RE!
30 Before Porkey's!
I saw THE HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS when it first came out about twenty plus years ago and I remember the audience in stitches througout the movie. There is an undermining sense of comraderie behind all the sophomoric hijinks and pranks when the 'Knights'( a "car club" rather than a street gang) are together. It is Halloween night and they just want to cruise the Hollywood Boulevard having one great night before their beloved hangout, "Tubbies" (a hamburger drive-in joint) is about to be shut down by the city council to make way for a new office complex, but it is also a way to get rid of the HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS. Also, the 'Knights' are hazing new recruits by stripping them naked and leaving them out in the middle of nowhere. They must make it back into town to get to a local radio station, and then make a dedication on the air. The rest of the 'Knights' spend the whole movie crashing different functions and getting into all kinds of mischief while getting two police officers in hot water (is there lyrics to the theme song of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA?). 'KNIGHTS' has been shown occasionally on cable in which some scenes were edited and on regular tv (in which it is butchered beyond recognition). In this reviewer's mind, it is consistantly funnier than PORKEY'S. The film is basically a cross between AMERICAN GRAFFITI and ANIMAL HOUSE but it stands on its own as a comedy cult classic. Now it is released on DVD uncut, uncensored, and in widescreen. Robert Whul, as the hilarious Newbaume, is the stand out talent in this movie. His so-called 'performance' of "Volare" in front of a high school pep ralley alone is hilarious and worth the price of the DVD. The other characters, gags and the soundtrack are excellent. The only time the film slows is during the scenes with Tony Danza and Michelle Pfieffer, but it is a minor complaint. Overall, an overlooked comedy gem worth a second look. Note: Look for Fran Drescher and TK Carter in supporting roles.
31 It's about time this movie came out on video!
I first viewed it in the early 80's and laughed to tears at the antics of Neubaum and the other Knights. This movie is a cross between Porky's and American Graffiti and well worth owning. The comedy, setting and cars are superb but are only second to the actors and actresses who really make this film a success.
32 "Go Newbaum"
Simply the best car movie ever made! Great characters that made you wonder "what the heck" happened to the Duker and Jimmie Shine.
33 HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS RULES!

34 It's no Laurence of Arabia...
I loved this movie when it was on cable in my high school days in the early 80's so I jumped on the chance to buy it when it finally became available. Well, I was a little disappointed as it didn't seem as funny as I remember (but I also still remembered all the lines). It didn't help that my wife was sitting next to me saying "this is so stupid!". It was still a good purchase and I'm sure I will enjoy it again some day with the help of a few beers.

If you liked Caddyshack you will probably like this movie.

35 Seeking Hollywood Knights for Years....
I have been asking about this for last 5 years in video stores, NO LIE BABY! Newbomb Turk is killer, the van scene with his babe is killer in a "premature" kind of way, so is the Newbomb Turk Library Scene as is the Dance Scene with Punch. These are memories from years ago. I have not seen the movie in over ten years, but I do remeber it and I have wanted it.

I am a big lover of Caddyshack, too, and this movie I sought for years. I even used to aggressively look for it on cable (HBO,Cinemax) etc, but it never came on. I would've subscribed for a couple of months just to be able to tape it. I told two people about it on 9/13/00 (two days ago) and here it is by accident. I was not even suspecting its availability. Awesome!

36 hollywood knights
Hollywood Knights.....simply the BEST cult comedy film. When you need to laugh this movie is the one. A hot rod Caddyshack. No need to rent it, buy it, you'll wear it out. CAUTION..."it has a little wang in it."
37 Newbomb and the "Knights" rock!
This movie portrays the 50's "hop shop car clubs" that were once prominent in that era. Tony Danza plays a high school age "chop top" car loving member of the "Hollywood Knights". He is faced with heart breaking decisions and tries to find himself. The other character Newbombe Turk is portrayed by Robert Wuhl. He is the "new age" leader of the club with hillarious antics and jokes. The "Knights" are the practical joke gods of their time. "Hollywood Knights" is both hillarious and heart touching.
38 It Does Have A Little WANG To It!
I am so bummed that this movie isn't in VHS format!! This is one of the funniest movies ever. It's a "check your brain at the door" and just have a good time. The filmmakers captured the era perfectly, along with the clothes, slang, etc. My older sister and brother were of this time period and trust me, they did some of the same stupid stuff the Knights did!!! Fran Drescher did a great job as the Princess in the movie (LOVE the line, "DID YOU COME?"); Robert Wuhl was SO good as the instigator. Also hilarious, Leigh French and Richard Schaal as the cheating couple who are so righteous, but sooooo hot to trot! The plotline between Tony Danza & Michelle Pfeiffer is kind of useless because they don't explore the characters enough. It's okay, but a bit of a waste. A fun evening would be to watch this along with "American Graffiti". I first saw this movie on HBO and then got my sister and brother hooked on the movie. We caught it almost everytime it was on HBO. We taped it, but as you can well imagine, a fresh copy is DESPERATELY needed. Looking forward to when this will be released on video! (hey, I only just started with CD's about 2 years ago---it'll be awhile til I get a DVD player!) If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should definitely get with The Hollywood Knights!
39 The Hollywood Knights: Good Get Drunk Comedy
What can I say about "the Hollywood Knights"? I have been watching it for almost ten years now and every time I see it, it gets funnier. The best time to watch it is when you are with a group of your buddies, like co-workers, or dorm friends from college, buy a couple cases of beer, pop in "the Hollywood Knights", and live a time that was innocent, yet disturbing. even though I was born in 1977, the stories that my father has told me about growing up at that time in his small town of Logan, Iowa, remind me of the hell that he and his buddies raised. The situation with the police is the same, Vietnam was n the minds of the young, hangouts were customary, and getting that girl you liked was number one, or number two, depending on how serious you were. Every Baby Boomer's child should watch this movie to see what things were like when their parents were young. Then, ask them questions.
40 It's about darn time!
Fans of this movie have been waiting for years for it's release. My guess is that some sort of corp. red tape kept it off the video rack for so long. There's a group of guys in California so in love with this flick, they have their own Hollywood Knights club and they have the original cars from the movie and take on the movies personalities. Heck, that ought to tell you how cool it is! Look those guys up on the web....that's how I found them.
41 Bimbo
"You're lying to a police officer...You little son of a b....!" Aside from the cheesey plot line with Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer, this movie stands as the one the greatest quotable flicks out there.
42 Those Hollywood Knights they drive me crazy Part II
Oh I almost forgot! My sister has asthma and to this day we still refer to her inhaler as her puffer! If you didn't understand this you need to see the movie first!
43 You want the Big One? I've got the Big One.
Like most guys, there are a few movies that I know all the lines to, and quote them a lot. This is one of them. I do understand why this movie would not appeal to everyone, but if you like the Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles-types of movies, then this is for you. The best characters are actually the two cops who can't do anything right. Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia......
44 Love This Movie
Well im glad they decided to release it on DVD.After reading one review saying some bad discs were turning up, I was a little worried about buying it.I can say that everythings ok as I own an Apex 600A...if the disc had any problems it would have shown up on my player for sure.I was disappointed about no "extras" to speak of.The so called Theatrical trailer(s) aren't even from the movie...but its a good to see the movie
45 THOSE HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS THEY DRIVE ME CRAZY!
If anyone knows what part of the movie my title is from then you to should be an honorary Hollywood Knight. I am glad that I am not alone in thanking the higher powers for releasing this classic movie. I can't tell you how many times we sat down as a family in my childhood and watched this movie! Yes, I did say my childhood. Hell your kids are going to learn about the raunchy but hilarious hijinks in this movie someday anyway. We too discovered it on HBO and Cinemax in the early 1980's. We made a VHS copy of it but someone actually stole it a the pizza shop my brother worked at! At Easter this year we got to talking about it and my brother told me that it was being released and I am now the proud owner of this movie on DVD. My Dad is coming over this weekend and I can't wait to watch it with him again. Since all of us kids have grown up and our family has gotten a lot bigger we now have more people to share it with. However, we ruin it for them because we recite the lines!

To the viewer who said they mention Tony Danza's name you are wrong. They mention Tony Nancy who is a custom car builder. If you don't believe me check the credits and you will see that he stars in the movie as himself.

I could write more but I think I am about to go past the 1,000 word limit! With a movie this good that is easy to do.

46 I hate to be a party pooper, but...
This movie isn't nearly as funny as I remember it being. I remember watching in on HBO when I was about 12 and thinking it was the best movie ever made, but now that I'm older and wiser, it just isn't that funny. The jokes are crude and they do have their moments, but overall it's pretty lame based on today's standards. I guess there was a reason the studio waited so long to release this movie. My advice, rent it before you buy it.
47 At long last!
I've waited years for this movie to be available on video and I'm glad it's now out on DVD too. Unless you've seen it on cable, then you really haven't seen this movie - the normal edits for broadcast TV butcher it in unexpected ways. The humor is sophomoric, the pranks are silly, and the sexual innuendos and nudity are gratuitous and liberally applied. In short if you liked Animal House, you'll like this too! An added bonus is getting to see Robert Wuhl (introduced in this movie), Stuart Pankin, Tony Danza, and Michelle Pfeiffer all in some early roles. Watch closely and you'll even hear someone say the name Tony Danza (when they're talking about the color of Jimmy Shine's car). This movie is a lot of fun and it won't make you think too hard - it goes great with good friends and a cold beer or two.
48 FINALLY!
I can't believe it took them THIS long to release this movie on video, considering all of the people in it. All this time I thought the masters were long gone and I would have to be relegated to seeing the edited version on TBS or USA. Not anymore. My cousin, who especially worships this movie, will be pleased as those who remember Robert Wuhl's fart-rock version of "Volare" while getting chased around the gymnasium like it was 1980 again. One of the finest cult classics since "Pandemonium" or "Midnight Madness". Thank you Paramount!
49 The Knights are Back!
My friends and I first saw this movie in the early 80's, our Junior year in High School. It instantly became our favorite. To this day, we recite lines from this classic. I never imagined this movie would be released on DVD. I was thrilled when I found out that it was being released the day before my 35th birthday! Unlike one of the other reviewers, my DVD has no flaws. Though the picture and sound aren't as awesome as new titles, it blows away the VHS tape that I recorded from HBO in the early 80s. This one is great to watch with "the guys", NOT with the kids.
50 FINALLY! I own a copy of the Knights!
I've waited 20 agonizing years for the Knights to be available for rent/purchase. From the first time I saw it, I've said, "I must have my own copy of this!" Truly a classic that will proudly join my DVD rack right next to Animal House and Caddy Shack!
51 It's Finally Been Released on Video
I saw this flick on a movie channel back in the 80's and was shocked to find that it wasn't available on video until just recently. The casting for this film was tremendous. You will recognize several actors who went on to make it big in Hollywood many years after this film was made (1980).

If you love vintage hot rods, you'll want to see this movie for this reason alone. The cruising scenes are brief, but they're great fun. You may also be interested in the great music in this movie.

The premise of the movie is that a car club called "The Hollywood Knights" is having their hang-out (Tubby's drive-in) torn down by an association that is tired of their pranks. In addition, interest in the club is on the decline and one of its member's is headed for Vietnam. The guys in the club decide to have one last big night of pranks and fun. Newbomb Turk played by Robert Wuhl is the catalyst for the pranks and from "spiking" the punch, to pranks at the prep rally, you'll find yourself laughing hysterically at a movie that probably has the best adolescent humor along with "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."

52 No DVD problems here
Perhaps the chap, who wrote that the full-screen DVD version keeps breaking up and that the widescreen side can't be read, got a bad copy, and evidently some may have been produced, if Circuit City told him some discs are being returned. I had no problems of any sort with mine. Everything looked great. In fact, this is one of the few widescreen movies on DVD that actually looks as good, if not better, in full-screen. The director didn't make full use of the widescreen format, so very little is missed at full-screen. The director's comments are a big plus, since everybody who loves this film will want to know more about it. Oddly, he keeps calling Leigh French "Leigh Fisher".
53 The Wait Is Over.....
It took 20 years, but fans of this American classic will finally have the opportunity to enjoy the Knights in a high quality format. Those who have never seen this nostalgic one night romp through mid 60s Los Angeles and its environs will be treated to more than just the antics of a hilarious group of testosterone driven misfits. Those of us who treasure our VHS copies of late night cable showings will finally have the high quality versions we have waited so long for. Like an irreverant version of American Graffiti, The Hollywood Knights will make you long for the days when life was simpler, and morality more easily defined in the days leading up to the turmoil of the late 60s. You won't be disappointed.
54 One of the FUNNIEST movies I've seen in my life!
I've been waiting ever since the early 80's for this movie to come out for sale; it'll NEVER be mistaken as enlightened moviemaking but if you like low comedy you'll be rolling on the floor with this one. Inspired by the earlier "American Graffiti", this adaptation is played much more for laughs and tries not to take itself too seriously. The music is great, something for everyone who enjoys 60's Rock & Roll; and the cast includes several who went on to at least semi-stardom, such as Robert Wuhl (Arli$$), Tony Danza (Who's the Boss?), Fran Dreischer (The Nanny) and of course, Michelle Pfeiffer. Like "American Graffiti", there's also a serious side: one of the Knights is about to ship out for Vietnam the next day, the movie's way of saying that this was an age of innocence that was just about to change into what the Late 60's became. However, the main plot is that it's Halloween night, the drive-in's closing for good the next day, and tonight's the night to go all-out with cruising, playing pranks, and getting initiated into the gang! A HILARIOUS movie!
55 Serious Flaws in the DVD Version
While this is one of the greatest comedies ever made, the DVD version is incredibly flawed. According to a representative of Circuit City, the disk is coming back as fast as it is sold. The video and audio on the full screen format keeps breaking up and the widescreen version can't be read. Be forewarned! And demand that Columbia Home Video fix the problem...soon!
56 Twenty years of sliced-up reruns
I saw this movie at the theater when it was released. Saw it once later on Cable. Since then it's been just one more sliced-up version after another on latenight. Thank goodness that someone had the heart to put this out on video for us to enjoy again! All the girls! All the cars! All the jokes! All the music! See it with a date, see it with a friend, see it with a seeing-eye dog, but SEE IT! You'll never hear "Volare" the same way again!
57 A True Classic!
It's about time! Thank you, to the powers that be, for FINALLY releasing this comedy classic. Now we don't have to stay up til 4 AM to catch this movie on Cinemax. All I have to say is Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia....he's an English guy..he came to fight the Turkish...BEEP BEEP! BEEP BEEP!
58 Classic comedy reigns!
"There is a man in a Major Domo outfit..." If you have seen this movie, you can easily finish this sentence. This classic mix of "low-brow" humor and early 60's ambiance is great fun. Look for Leigh French (formerly the Hippy hostess Goldie in the old Smother's Brothers Comedy Hour) as the society do-gooder pushing to get the local teen hang-out closed down once and for all. Robert Wuhl is outstanding as Newbomb Turk and Fran Drescher shines as his girlfriend. I have a VHS copy I play whenever I want a good laugh. The Hollywood Knights is a classic you'll want to watch over and over. I can't wait to get my DVD edition. Just thinking about it makes me want to launch into a refrain from "Volare"!
59 I Was There
Having co-starred as Off. Clark, it's great to see it finally come out on tape. Can't believe it's been 20 years since we did it. It was a unique experience. Looking forward to seeing it again.
60 Great Nostalgia!
I agree with Donna from Savanna, Georgia. I don't know how many times that I've tried to find out where I could get this movie. Heck, every time I saw American Graffiti, I thought about Hollywood Knights! I just love the backgound music. Just like American Graffiti did. It leaves a lasting impression on you. Thank You Amazon.com! (and thank you Internet! ).

62 Can an old fart weigh it?
I, like the rest of the reviewers here, am waiting for my pre-ordered DVD of Hollywood Knights with great anticipation. Since I graduated with the Class of '64, this one is right down my alley, and one of my all-time favorites. HINT: This movie must, in no form or fashion, be taken seriously as an art-form, unless it were rated for nostalgia.

As corny and childish as some of the stunts are, in this movie, I, myself, was guilty of pulling just about all of them, in my time. We used to do all kinds of things to our city police, i.e., put sugar in their gas tank, play "hubcap" and get them to chase us. I even shot a large bottle rocket into the local police station (you should have seen them scatter). We even spiked the punch at the Prom.....only with vodka. And, yeah, we were just as car-crazy.

I don't know why it took so long for this to make it to the market, but if you can wear out a DVD, I'll be trying. If you're my age, it may bring back a few memories. If you're a youngster, you might discover that your parents (and grandparents) may not have been as dried-up and stodgy as you thought.

Young or old, it's one that all of you will love, and it will become a necessary addition to your collection.

BUY IT!

63 Hollywood Knights
I about flipped when my brother told me "HollywoodKnights" was coming to video. I told him I would checkamazon.com and here it is! I have waited for 17 years just to have this as part of my video collection. This is the only video I've ever asked for in video stores and always got a "no we don't have that" for an answer. Now it doesn't matter. I'm so excited I think "I need my puffer". END
64 Greatest Movie of All Time
Casablanca move over. Citizen who? Gone with the Wind, you can say that again. Without a doubt Hollywood Knights stands as the quintessential achievement of motion picture science and art. OK, don't buy that? If you liked American Graffiti, just R rate it and you have Hollywood Knights. You will be blown away by the vintage 60's rock music and automobiles. The humor is adolescent and with no socially redeeming properties. In otherwords, GREAT!
65 The Bridge between Gone with the Wind and South Park BLU
America had waited 40 years after Gone with the Wind for another work of equivalent merit when the Hollywood Knights was issued. Fortunately, it only took another 19 to have South Park. To appreciate the artistic lineage of these timeless masterpieces, one must study the Hollywood Knights, a very difficult occupation task in recent years, since it stopped being rerun on HBO and Cinemax. This wonderful film continues the rich tradition of body function humor in Western Civilization begun by Aristophanes and matured in Chaucer, Rabelais and Swift. No one can claim to be liberally educated without a familiarity with it and no one knows how hard they can laugh until they've seen it. By way of a recommendation, I specifically suggest that viewers keep an eye out for Robert Wuhl's virtuoso rendition of the classic Volare, the performance by Sasha Dubinsky, the world famous one armed violinist and the delivery of punch by Mintoff's caterers to the Beverly Hills Country Club. A profoundly good time is guaranteed for all.
66 A Reel Wuhlbuster!
Arliss (The Early Years) is an apt "subtitle" forthis teen adventure. Similar to American Graffiti in theme but certainly lighter in tone.RobertWuhl is outstand in the lead role and its' a shame Hollywood hasn't found more work for this talented free style comic and actor. Mighty fine soundtrack and a super Saturday night video to watch with that "Old Gang" of yours.
67 "HEY GANG IT'S SURF SAM ON KBLA....."
FINALLY this movie has come to video and DVD. This movie is without a doubt my favorite (watched 91 times since first viewing in 1984).It's about a group of high school kids who belong to a car club in Beverly Hills in 1965, Pulling pranks that dont hurt anyone, with the exception of the "PUNCH". Thier hangout (Tubby's) is enjoy it's last night in business and with a great cast(at the time they were unknowns), great old american cars/street rods, surrounded with a great soundtrack. I'm sure you will watch it as much as I have, so far.
68 Hollywood Knights - Finally out on DVD
I can't believe it has taken so long for this title to finally appear on DVD or VHS. It is a hilarious look at life in the 50's. It's similar to Happy Days but with a touch of Porky's. I strongly recommend it.
69 it's about time!
i just found out that this movie is finally coming to video after 20 years! am i glad i own a dvd player!

this movie is hilarious and a true classic..if you love the great comedy films of the 80's such as porky's and bachelor party, then by all means add this one to your collection..you won't be disappointed.

70 Hollywood Knights--I've waited 15 years!
Absolutely one of the corniest but funniest movies I have ever seen. First saw it around 1984 or 85 on HBO late at night. Robert Wuhl is a crazy man in this movie as Newbomb Turk. Great cast of soon to be and current stars. Not the greatest movie ever made, but it's just great time! I'd recommend it for a party, or just for kicks. I'm so glad it's finally been released!
71 hollywood knights
This movie is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It starred a number of stars to be.. Michelle Pfeiffer..Robert Wuhl and Tony Danza.. This movie about the hi-jinx of Tubby's Drive-In on October 1965...Robert Wuhl's character is the most hilarious as Newbomb Turk..It's about time the movie came out on DVD (May 00)..this movie is not to be missed ! ..it's worth the price ! GET IT...!
72 KNIGHTS RULE
A RAUCAUS COMEDY THAT FITS IN AT THE TOP OF THE LIST WITH...PORKYS, ANIMAL HOUSE, CADDYSHACK...A GREAT DEBUT FOR SOME GOOD STARS....
73 Hollywood Knights-A Hilarious "Cult-Classic".
This 20-year old film is not to be missed. This coming May, 2000 will be the first time it will be available, so make sure it's on your list of movies to check out! The film takes place in 1965 at "Tubby's" Drive-In. The central character is Newbomb Turk(Robert Wuhl)and his rambunctious gang of "Knights" running around their Town and playing funny pranks on themselves, the bumbling police and their school. Hollywood Knights is considered to be the clone of the many "Drive-In" type movies, most notably, "American Graffiti"(1973) but I guarantee you will laugh your socks off. This film is also notorious for featuring the debut performances of, Robert Wuhl, Fran Drescher and Michelle Pfeiffer. Tony Danza, Stuart Pankin, and Gary Graham also appear.
