1 NICE!!!!
THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITE MUPPET MOVIES. THE GANG SPLITS UP AND GO THEIR SEPERATE WAYS. AND KERMIT GETS AMNESIA AND THE WHOLE GANG SEARCHES FOR HIM AND EVENTUALLY FINDS HIM AND THEY ARE ABLE TO FINALLY FIND SOMEONE TO PRODUCE THEIR SHOW FOR THEM AND KERMIT AND PIGGY GETS MARRIED. MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THIS MOVIE IS WHEN A GUY STILLS MISS PIGGY'S PURSE AND TAKES OFF AND SHE PUT HER SKATES ON AND GETS HIM AND GETS HER PURSE BACK AND SHE TERRIFIES THE GUY. I LOVED THIS MOVIE VERY VERY NICE A MUST HAVE !!!!!
2 THE MUPPETS ROCK!

way to go jim henson!
3 Funny and delightful, but not the best Muppets movie
I grew up with the Muppets, and it's impossible not to love them. They still make me laugh (especially that Swiss chef), and what can you say about Kermit the Frog? He's a legend, pure and simple. The Muppets Take Manhattan is great fun, as the gang reunites to take on Broadway and become stars, but there just seems to be a little something missing here. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that all the players go their separate ways over the course of a big chunk of the film - I don't know. It's still a great movie that children of all ages should enjoy, but it's not my favorite Muppet film. Certainly, one thing in this movie's favor is the fact that, in 1984, Jim Henson was still alive and well, and his collaboration with Frank Oz makes this a vintage Muppets motion picture.
As the film opens, the Muppet gang are graduating from college, and the big show they put on for the school is such a hit that they decide to go to New York and take their show to Broadway. It is a decision that helps keep everyone together, but even Kermit the Frog has a hard time getting any Broadway producers to sign a show featuring song and dance performed by a frog, a pig, a dog, etc. When hope is all but lost, everyone decides to split up and live their own lives - they feel as if they have been unfair to Kermit by depending on him alone for so long. Kermit vows to stay and sell the show, and he can't way to get the gang back together. Luckily, Kermit has developed a friendship with a fashion design student/waitress and gets a job at a diner (which also features a funny and delightful little group of rats). Kermit's new three-phase plan to sell the show offers a lot of comedy but doesn't exactly pan out the way he would like. Then he has to make things right with a certain someone who has been stalking him. In the end, of course, everything works out for the best - but not before Kermit completely disappears for the two weeks leading up to opening night.
This film boasts a number of cameo appearances by well-known personalities: Dabney Coleman, Joan Rivers, Gregory Hines, Linda Lavin, Art Carney, Elliott Gould, Liza Minnelli, Brooke Shields, and many others (including a pre-Star Trek: The Next Generation Gates McFadden). Some extra special guests from a certain street everyone knows and loves also show up for the big finale. As always, the Muppets themselves steal the show, and there are some really comical scenes of physical humor as well as funny dialogue. You even get to see what the gang might have been like if they had all met as children. By all means, watch and enjoy The Muppets Take Manhattan, but I think there are better Muppets movies out there.
4 My favorite!
I saw The Muppets Take Manhattan when I was first shown in movie theaters and personally this is my favorite of The Muppet movies and I think it's really cute and I highly recommend it. I will definitely have to think of going from the pan and scan video tape to the widesreen DVD!
5 muppet mediocrity with excellent subtitle selection
While still a fun muppet adventure, this film lacks the charm or catchy tunes of the first two muppet outings, The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper, though the locations in New York City are a lot of fun and there will be some scenes that will have you tickled.
The film can be viewed in wide or fullscreen format; heard in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese; and subtitled in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean or Thai! DVD extras include a lengthy Jim Henson interview, some muppet improvisation and trailers for other films.
Essential for muppet maniacs or NYC fans, lesser-choice for more casual fans -- see The Muppet Movie instead.
6 It is that easy "Be'in Green"!
Hi Ho, Kermit the frog's here and I'm not talking about
"Sesame Street". Join him with his Muppet partners Miss Piggy,
Fozzie Bear, The great Gonzo, Pepe and Rizzo. Kermit the frog
wants to get a show called "Manhattan Melodies" which is about
2 kids who come to New York to get married (which Kermit and
Miss Piggy do). But it does not work, so he tries to get four people to help. They are a restaurant worker named Pete, a girl named Jenny, and a father/son team called Bernard and Ronnie Crawford.
Don't miss the cameos by Art Carney, Brooke Shields, Dabney Coleman, Gregory Hines (whom we give tribute to since he died.
He was 57, also starred in films like "Tap" (Tri-Star) and
"White Nights"(Columbia) ), James Coco, Joan Rivers and Linda Lavin. Songs include "Saying Goodbye", "You Cant Take "No" For A
Answer" and "Together Again".
Also Recommended are:
"The Muppet Movie"(1979)
"The Great Muppet Caper"(1981)
"Muppet Treasure Island"(1996)

7 Another Great Muppet Classic For ALL Ages
If you like the Muppets, you don't need to be reading this review. Just buy this classic Muppet movie. If not, I'll try to give you a glimpse of the great show this really is.
All the Muppets have just got out of college and now all leave for different destinations and job. They all split up, but Kermit tries to get them all on Broadway meanwhile with their show "Manhattan Melodies". My favorite scene in this film is when Miss Piggy is spying on Kermit and another lady Kermit is talking to. Kermit gives a hug to her, and Miss Piggy, who is being teased by some contstruction workers bend a bar of metal and then starts denting metal. It's really hard to explain, but it is absolutely hilarious. You have got to buy this DVD! I also recommend "The Great Muppet Caper", "The Muppet Movie", "Muppet Treasure Island", and "Muppets From Space".
8 Muppets come to DVD
This is a great replacement for the video tape which has been worn through my many revisits to this movie. This is a great feel-good movie with the witty cast of the Muppets. Great Cameos and just a fun movie all around. I introduced the Muppets to my 9-year-old cousin with this movie, and now he is hooked and collecting all the figurines. Great for kids and adults. Also contains some cool special features on this one as well as Muppet Movie.
9 Very Good Entertainment for all ages!!!!
This movie is very good entertainment for all ages. Iam 22, and this is one of my favorite all time movies. Kermit and his bunch have just graduated from College and they are trying to get their show, (manhattan Melodies) on broadway. But the producers in the Big Apple look at them like they are crazy. It's very funny at times and very entertaining!!! Don't miss this one, a GREAT movie if you have a family and want good entertainment! A+
10 Adorable!
This is one of the most criticized of the Muppet films but I think it is alot of fun. Especially for people originally from the NYC area, such as my self, it is rather nostalgic.
The only part that I can remember as slightly lacking was the very end scene, where the musical is actually performed, but the other aspects of this movie, and the comedy of Kermit when he has lost his memory is more than enough to make up for that.
11 MY FAVORITE!
I am totally in love with this movie!! It is my favorite Muppet movie, and one of my just general favorite movies! A fun, energetic and clever movie from start to finish! Fun songs, the incomparable fun characters created by Jim Henson and his team of geniuses! Fans of Broadway and musical theater, take note of this one too! :o) Tons of cameos make this film one you will have to watch over and over and contiunally enjoy! I've never grown tired of watching this one, I love it!
12 The Best Thing About Such Socially Needed Characters....
Its always been the subtle bottom line, if you've got cartoon characters that started on paper and ended up on screen..or an old story that starts with 5 people and ends up 20 years later with 5 different people, the values and morals follow those themes from generation to generation. Jim Henson's fabulous creations called 'The Muppets' went from puppet to animated cartoon by the early 90s', and from adults and college graduates they became babies. In 1984 New York was what it is today to dreamers of stardom...the best opportunities on a grid of tough streets and companies of high standards. Jim Henson and director Frank Oz used this setting for the story of a group of college graduates wanting to make it 'Big' on Broadway. This time it was the zany muppet group, accepted so much into the hearts of fans all over the world that we never thought to ask whay people walking down 7th Avenue didn't give a second look to a pig wearing sunglasses and a hat. That's half of what made this G-Rated classic so memorable, the other half uses the ever popular and so greatly familiar characteristics and taglines of these much beloved wacky animals. Brooke Shields, Joan Rivers, Gregory Hines and Elliot Gould are among a few big name actors that made unfogettable cameos alongside the muppet pack. The story is just the best Ive seen as far as the muppets go; Kermit, Scooter, Ralph, Ms. Piggy, Mr. Swetish Chef, Gonzo, Fozy, Animal and Beaker among the rest of Jim Henson's adorable best friends give their best performance ever. In this must-own on DVD that brightens the spotlight even more on one of America's proudest places to be. Ill give 5 stars anyday to this wonderfull classic movie.
13 Broadway Hit!!!!!!!
Great Film! Kermit and the gang have a show called "Manhattan Melidies". When someone in the crowd yells next time it will be on Broadway. The Muppets think it's a great idea. They talk to a guy that turns out that he wants there money. The Muppets try there best to other people. Kermit meets a person named Jenny. Kermit says they will have to leave so he can sell the show and put it on Broadway. Kermit and Jenny come with plans to put it on Broadway but none worked. Miss.Piggy comes back after spying on Kermit and Jenny thinking that Kermit was breaking up with her. Someone mails Kermit that he would love to help. Looks like everything is great until Kermit is hit by a taxi. He comes out of the hospitol and meets frogs and thinks a someone named Phil. All the Muppets are back and they find Kermit. Will Kermit know who he is and will the show go on? Then buy this Muppet Movie!!!!
14 My daughter and I love it!
This is my favorite muppet movie! Lots of good songs and nice plot. We watch it over and over at our house.
15 Together again
Ah, the Muppets. The only bad thing about this video is that it makes me miss Jim Henson :.<
A wonderfully zany romp through the big city, complete with a Broadway show finale and all those wonderful moments that make the Muppets quality entertainment. 'Saying Goodbye' produces tears in me as effectively as it did when I was three. I promise you'll be singing at the end!
16 Not the best of the three, but still great...
Too bad it has a mono soundtrack... But it's a Muppet movie with the original Muppets (not the "new" Muppets from the 90's)... I highly recommend "The Great Muppet Caper"... It's by far the best... "The Muppet Movie" is also very good; especially when Big Bird says he's on his way to New York to break into public television. Now if only I could find the Muppet Show on DVD...
17 Muppets take my heart
This is one of the best movies i have ever seen! I love everything about the muppets beginning with fraggle Rock all the way down to Muppet Babies. Never has a production with puppets gone so far. Jim Henson is one of the most talented people out there. Muppets Take Manhatten is a hilarious flick about The muppets who have just came out of college. Much like the first movie this one will have you laughing and wishing you were with the muppets on the set. They have definitly captured my heart.
18 3 reasons why you'll love this movie
The bear says "waka waka". The frog gets the huggies from white girl. Bert and Earnie make special appearance.
19 Great movie! Not embarrassed to admit I still like it!
While growing up, I had the opportunity to watch classic television programs such as the Muppet Show and Muppet Babies. When I saw Muppets Take Manhattan, I thought it was the greatest thing ever! What I didn't know was that I would still find this movie great even at my older age. I was too young to appreciate all of the cameos in the film as well as the New York locations. Now, being a film student and a former New Yorker, I really enjoy this film more. The film is for all ages and is a joy to watch.
20 Muppets in the Big Apple! Wakka Wakka!
Great family entertainment. In this third and finest offering from the muppet films, Kermit and Pals take their college graduation show to New Yorks in hopes of opening as the next Broadway Sensation. This is a pretty standard muppet storyline, but it is Director Frank Oz's use of New York City locations and his creative direction of musical numbers that sends this one to the top. The muppets become 'real' when seen bouncing down 42nd Street or visiting Central Park. Musical numbers such as the beautifully executed "Saying Goodbye" and the showstopping "I Will Always Love You" (introducing the fabulous Muppet Babaies) will have you smiling long after. The DVD itself has an interesting interview with Jim Henson but the audio is mono and the widescreen transfer is a bit on the grainy side making the release a little disappointing. But for lovers of the film, Wakka Wakka!

22 Terrifically timeless!
The Muppets Take Manhattan is the last big-screen Muppet adventure from the late, great Jim Henson. It follows the gang graduating from college and trying to take Broadway by storm with their musical "Manhattan Melodies". After extensive self promotion they soon realise that breaking into showbiz isn't as easy as it might seem.
The third of the Muppet movies sees it's second release on DVD video. This newer release includes a nice interview section with the Muppet mastermind himself, Jim Henson. Apart from the wide-screen picture, the interview section is the best special feature on the disc.
The soundtrack is presented here in mono (did the original cinematical version have a mono soundtrack?) so audio digital remastering wasn't necessary.
Nevertheless, another fine addition to the Muppet DVD collection.
23 Muppets and Broadway, I'm so there
This is another movie that I loved growing up - well, I loved all of the Muppet's movies. PLUS it has Lonny Price in it, who I find oddly attractive (now, that is, not so much back then). And for some reason, all of the rats' lines have stuck in my head ("Come on in, the coffee's fine!") without my realizing it - it was only on watching this movie again that I realized where the lines had come from.
24 The Muppets Messed-up DVD
The Muppets Take Manhattan is the third Muppet film and although not the strongest, it's sure to entertain the entire family. The story follows the Muppets on their quest to get their show, "Manhattan Melodies", produced on Broadway. It's a terrific story that hits at the core of what the Muppets are all about, namely putting on a show. Sure the music isn't as memorable as that in the first muppet movie (except "I'm Gonna Always Love You"), but you can't help appreciating the lengths to which the Muppets will go to entertain you. Singing chickens? Got 'em! Frogs with hair? Check! Unbelieveable action sequence? Of course, and it's unbelieveable in more ways than one! A Muppet staple is the cameo and they abound in this film. Everyone from Liza Minelli to Art Carney sets some screen time. Joan Rivers is particularly funny in her over the top make-up scene with Miss Piggy. For all you Trekkers, Gates McFadden even appears as a secretary to a con man!
The film is great entertainment, but this DVD has problems. First of all the digital tranfer isn't that good. Plenty of older films like Fantasia look stunning on DVD, but not this film. There is a graininess to the picture that can be discracting and artifacts abound. Sound is presented in only a mono format. Was the original film released this way? I don't know, but if so some mention should be made on the packaging, otherwise it feels like we're getting ripped off. On a positive note the film is presented in both a formatted and widescreen version. As for the other bonuses, there is a strange feature called "Muppetisms" that I can't really figure out. They are minute, minute and a half long segments featuring one or two muppets just goofing off and benign wacky. Not too sure what it's all about, but it was fun to watch - once. By far the best bonus feature is the interview with Jim Henson. He talks a bit about the making of the film, how decisions are made and such. It's an incredible peek into the creation of a Muppet film. There is one glarig problem though - the chapter stops are just little minute or so long bits of the interview. To see the whole thing you have to continually stop and start up again. It's a big mistake and makes watching the entire thing quite a chore.
My final word on this edition is buy it for the widescreen version of the movie only. The transfer isn't that good, the bonuses aren't that great, but the film itself is a real treat. Not the strongest Muppet film, but not the weakest either. If you have the video and don't care about widescreen, you can easily (and sadly) pass on this DVD. If not, pick this up for a fun romp around Manhattan that you and your family are sure to enjoy again and again.
25 Finally
This is a series of movies that I have been waiting for forever. I am glad that they're finally coming out on DVD. Definitely a keeper for anyone with kids or who is a big kid themselves!
26 The Muppets Take Manhattan
Kermit has written a wonderful play to take to New York City to put on Broadway. The gang had to go out of town to find jobs and while the gang is out of town 2 months had passed and producers wanted to help. But one day a big time producer's son wanted to help. Kermit was so exited, but on the way back from the producer's office Kermit gets hit by a taxi cab and gets amnesia. Will the show go on?
27 You're never too old!!! ;-)
The entire Muppet line is a five-star entity. I am an EE Senior at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and my sister will tell you that I LOVE the Muppets. This particular title is a bit more emotional, for they actually sense some dissension, but as always, they come back together. It is packed with the same wit and humor as all the other titles, especially with this movie being Rizzo's big break into Hollywood. So all in all, BUY IT!!!:-)
28 The best Muppet movie ever made and ever to be made!
Although I have been teased by classmates for being a "Muppet Maniac" I adore this movie completely and know every line and every song in the whole thing. I never cease to jump for joy when Kermit and Miss Piggy get married (and despite what some sources may say, they DID get married- that was a real life minister!) and I have been known to cry out in agony as Kermit is hit by a car. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and it will be my favorite for forever.
29 Muppets should win oscars
I first saw this movie when I was six years old--in a sold out movie theater. Muppets have never lost their charm, and this movie is testament to their universal appeal. The songs are catchy, and the humor is outrageous--especially when Miss Piggy get jealous at Kermit's close friendship with a human waitress. Of course, the movie is famous for the Kermit-Piggy wedding, which is sure to bring a tear to your eye. As always, the Muppets convey to us the value of friendship and family.
30 throwing a wedding shower?
Ever since i was a little kid, this video has been my favorite and it has kept me entertained with its touching wedding scene at the end. i recommend it for all folks who are preparing to get married and their friends!
31 Best Muppet Movie
This movie is excellent. It was the first movie I saw in the theaters, at the age of 2. I remember singing "Saying Goodbye" as I moved away from my house at the age of 3. It never gets old, and you will never stop enjoying it. A great buy.
32 The Muppets Take Manhattan and then Give it Back
The best Muppet Movie ever? It is a debate that rages on still today. Let's simplify the debate a little, by clearing one thing up. There are only THREE Muppet movies. I don't like to count the ones made after the tragic passing of the magical Jim Henson. His general spirit is missed in them, not even mentioning he not only provided the voice for Kermit the Frog, he WAS Kermit the Frog. That was him, that scrappy, intelligent, witty little frog...that was Jim Henson, and nobody could ever replace him. So that leaves three Muppet movies to choose from: The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, and The Muppets Take Manhattan. As I child, I always felt a special connection to The Muppets Take Manhattan, seeing as I had it on tape and I watched it constantly. As I grew, I would see the others, and I liked them, but I felt they never measured up to my favorite, The Muppets Take Manhattan. It all starts in college: The Muppets are graduating, and they're putting on their stage show, and everybody loves 'em. Kermit announces after the successful show that the Muppets are going to take their show to Broadway. Kermit and his buddies ship off to New York, encountering obstacles and splitting up, missing each other and then finding each other again. BUT WHERE'S KERMIT? He's been hit by a car and he's lost his memory! Then he starts to work for an advertising agencies with other frogs! He adapts to his surroundings. He doesn't know where or who he is. But soon, Gonzo finds him, and the show goes on and it's a smash! But that wedding scene...every time it comes on I can't hold the tears back. My God it's magical. It'll change you inside! It's the BEST MUPPET MOVIE EVER!
33 Take a sweet bite out of the big apple!
Sweet film starring the best cast (and the humans that show up are pretty cool, too)! If you want some fun music and a cute storyline...catch this! Don't miss it!
34 Something magical about muppets
The movie was tremendous, as was the music. "Saying goodbye" is one of my all time favorite songs. If anybody knows how I can get a copy of it I'll pay handsomely. dannabben@hotmail.com
35 Muppet Mania
When I used to work for the Brooklyn Public Library System I absolutely loved showing this flim in projector form to the kids because they went wild for Kermit and Miss Piggy and so did I. They never tired of it! I always said when I am blessed with a child I want to share this Muppet experience with him/her . You are never to old or to young to sing along with Kermit, Fozzie and one of my all time favorites, The Swedish Chef!
36 The Muppets and Me
So...obviously if you're reading this, you're thinking of buying this movie. Well, all I can say is this: BUY IT! I am 18 and a freshman in college and this movie still touches my heart. "Saying Goodbye", was the anthem of my friends and I when we graduated high school, and I have many happy memories of watching this movie and just of the Muppets in general. Thank you, Jim Henson, for changing my life.
37 The Muppets Take Manhattan
I love this movie! It's hilarious. You mustn't miss Kermit and Miss Piggy's wedding. My favorite part was the kitchen scat with Rizzo & Co.
38 Fun in the Big Apple!
While not the best of the six Muppet films, it's definately the most positive. Never give up on your dreams, Kermit the Frog shows us. Also, never give Jenny the huggies. Listen for the most touching Muppet movie tune of all, "Saying Goodbye", and think of Jim Henson. This was his final Muppet film. Definate enjoyment!
39 I need help getting in touch with TriStar pictues...HELP!!
ok, so I loved the Muppets Take Manhattan...I always have...and now I want to quote some of it in my senior yearbook, but I need to get propper coppywrite permission...how can I do this???
40 A Message From Mr. Movie Buff
The best Muppet Movie of all time! In the third, and best, Muppet Movie, Kermit and the gang have just graduated from college, and go to New York City to put their show on Broadway. But when no producer will take their show, and money runs short, they all go their own seperate ways to ease the load on Kermit. Kermit must work on his own to sell the show and bring them back, but, just when he does, he gets hit by a taxi and develops amnesia! The was the first movie I ever saw in my life, and will always be one of the most special! I love the song, "You Can't Take No for an Answer," and the song, "Saying Goodbye," still brings tears to my eyes. This movie also helps teach us all about the fundamentals of discipline, hard work, and that one ethic we keep hearing over and over: Never give up! A film for the ages, you'll feel good every time you see it!
41 This movie is so amazing, it will change lives!
"Muppets Take Manhattan" is my favorite movie of all time, and yes, I'm above the age of 6. This movie gem from Jim Henson and company is nothing short of brillant. It provides a humor that is wonderful for children, yet not insulting to adults. There is a underlying humor that adults will appreciate. The muppet characters stand out in this movie, and it is especially nice to see the movie incorporates most of the main muppet favorites. While Kermit is the main protagonist, other muppets steal the show, such as Miss Piggy, whose temper tantrums are hilarious. The muppets are wonderful together as well, and the songs performed in the movie are classic and very catchy. I also love the human aspect of the movie. One of my favorite things about muppets are that they have always interacted with human society, and no one seems to care. And when the muppets are cavorting around Manhattan, the human element adds a realistic, as well as funny, touch. honestly, "Muppets Take Manhattan" is my favorite movie. It is funny, has great songs, great setting in New York City, and it has a great message to always keep trying no matter what. It is a movie to be enjoyed by all ages, and trust me, it won't disappoint!
42 Perfect for all
This movie has been my favorite for as long as I can remenber as a muppet frek snice birth. I think everyone will enjoy it.
43 Stupendous!
What can I say? This has been my favorite movie since kindergarten...and I just graduated high school. As soon as I heard that it was coming out on video again I jumped to the opportunity to but it because it is a rarity at home video stores. Thanks for bringing the muppets back to the home viewer! It is deffinately a movie you can watch over and over and never get sick of...
44 Absolutely Marvalous
I have been watching the muppets since I was a litte tot and believe me this movie rocks the house! The muppets - especially The Muppets Take Manhatten, can be watched countless times. I Love them!!!!
45 this is the best muppet movie ever made
I would always watch this movie whenever I would dome home sick from school. I assumed my mother thought that I would probably grow out of it. I am a sophomore in high school now and I hadn't been sick since fifth grade. I got sick this year and the first movie that slid in to the vcr was The Muppets take Manhattan.Mom was wrong. You never grow too old for the Muppets. THe opening song, together again is exactly how I feel when I watch this movie. Together again, at long last with my old chums the muppets.
46 THE MUPPETS AT THEIR VERY BEST!
This is the last Muppet film in which Jim Henson was involved, and in my opinion, is one of the very best Muppet films to date. The credit for this superb film not only goes to the gentle genius himself, but to Frank Oz...one of the most sublime directors and actors of our generation. Bravo!
47 The Muppets storm NYC and try to get their play on B'Way.
I first saw this movie when I was a little child, and I just saw it again last month at my friend's house. It was just as good as it was when I first saw it more than a decade ago! If you love the Muppets you can not miss this. If you hate the Muppets, watch this and you will love them. It's a great movie for all ages. When you watch the scene when Kermit goes to the producer's office, decked out in an afro and medallion, I strongly urge you not to drink or eat because you just might choke. But all this is just my opinion...see it and judge for yourself.
48 Hilarious, creative, and suspenseful
The Muppets at their finest. They are engaging, a crack-up, and completely fun. I highly recommend this movie.
49 I am 11 and i still LOVE this movie! i recomend it to every1
This movie is funny, cute, and one of the best i have ever seen!! I think that the whole family can watch this, from ages 1 to 101. EVERYONE will enjot this movie. It is the best ever!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! :o)
