Maria S. Barbo
Zen masters never said, "You must learn as much as you can about your Pokémon," but Professor Oak certainly did. The grand teacher of Pokémon introduces this handy book about the Japanese craze that took over America in the form of a video game, trading cards, and a popular TV show. The handbook--written as if the young reader were a Pokémon trainer like Ash, Misty, and Brock--teaches kids which cards are the best to win a game and illuminates the stories behind the TV show. Geared to young readers, this engaging, colorful book is not for the Pokémon expert who has copious spreadsheets of statistics. You'll find fun facts about each Pokémon (Charmander is two feet tall and its element is fire, in case you didn't know), a clear guide to the evolution of certain characters, and a helpful pronunciation guide (great for parents). The book could have used a pictorial index of all 150 characters, but that won't stop fans from wearing out this handbook during their adventures as a Pokémon trainer.

1 a really great book
well at first my mom did'nt have any way for me to read but then I went to my friend aaron and serinas house and I liked it so I asked them politley if I could have it and they kindly said back "yes" so like a year later every night I would sit down before bed and read untill I got to tired to read anymore.my mom and dad were so proud of me that sometimes I would read some pages to them to dad said "wonderful" mom said "great" so from then on I read so much that my pokemon knowledge went up to like 100'000'000'000' and even more than that.note:I like to call serina sabrina thats how much of a pokemon fan I am.gotta catch em' all.
2 Not enough Information.
This book doesn't have enough information and is incomplete. It is missing over 100 Pokemon-- That's a lot of Pokemon missing! Even the other revised "Official Pokemon Handbook" is missing 99 of the Pokemon -- not much of a difference! I recommend just going to a whole other series that has a COMPLETE list of all 251 pokemon. Also, this book has NO information on the gold and silver versions! I like Pokemon and have a Pokemon Silver and think there should be a new version of the book (if this series is going to do something), but that probably won't happen because the Pokemon craze has basically ended. I went to another book that had a list of all 251 Pokemon and now I have 245 of the 251 Pokemon in the Silver version for Gameboy Color. The book has nice pictures of the original Pokemon, but it's nothing with out the additional 100 Pokemon.
3 Better than most.
When I ordered this book I was really exited, It's helpful but only when you have Yellow, red, or blue versions not helpful with the more modern vesions because they don't have a whole 100 of the more modern pokemon. All you Pokefans out there, only get this book if you have yellow, red, or blue versions.
4 The greatest book with a few disipointments
I liked this book, but I was disipointed that it only had the pokemon from the Yellow, Red, and Blue versions. Because I have the Crystal version as well as the Yellow version. I liked it though, because now I'm prepared for the moves my pokemon will learn and which moved to deleat.
5 Good, but not as good as the Deluxe Edition
The Official Pokemon Handbook is very easy to use, and can be very helpful at times. Basically, it has all the information you need from Bulbasaur to Mewtwo. Mew and Togepi appear in the Deluxe (Collector's) Edition. On my opinion, I would go with the Deluxe Edition instead of this one. Pretty good. An overall 3 stars.
6 Overall, a good book
The Official Pokemon Handbook is a must for anyone who has the Pokemon Gameboy game. It tells you almost anything you want to know about each and every Pokemon - evolution style and level, strengths and weaknesses, attacks, and MORE. Perhaps the only bad thing about this book was that, well, it was not 100% printed with diligence (i.e, Lickitung is said to attack 5 times in a row with Supersonic, and confuse with Wrap - it is the other way around). Still, it is a wonderful book, though it lacks information about Togepi, Togechikku (Togepi's flying-type evolution), Mew, Marril, and Buru. Hopefully there will be information for the 251 Pokemon in Pokemon Gold and Silver, and help on Breeding, Bug Catcher's Tournament, etc in those games.
7 Very Good Book
I have read this book, it is very good. But one thing is that the writer forgot about the Rarest pokemon Mew. The book mention it talks about it but did not put him on the book! Anyway Pokemon Gold and Silver is over in Asia and will be in North America later so I hope there will be part 2 of this great book!
8 The pokemon handbook
I really liked this book it definately helped me to learn the names of the pokemon. The only bad thing about it is in the book it mentions Mew as the rarest pokemon in the world but it dosn't show you him.And it also gives you some hints on the game.
9 really helpful
I think its really helpful if you have the pokemon games for gameboy. It was very helpful. I wanted some of my pokemon to evolve and I got them to evolve since I had the book. If you have the gameboy games you need the book.
10 Wonderful, and Complete Details on Pokemon!
I bought it for my children and almost wished I had one for myself! It gives you so much information on these cute little characters. It's very creative.
11 It's sooooooo cool!
I love this book! It has some awsome info on all PokŽmon, especialy Pikachu! Also, I love the VERY VERY VERY CUTE pic Pika! Plus, I love the EXTRA BIG (AND I MEAN BIG! ) Pics, too! The ONLY ONLY thing I don't like about it is the price! I'm asking these two things though: can you please PLEASE (if you can)make books one for each pokŽmon, and (if you can) tell the pokŽmon game makers to make pokŽmon games for other systems too (super nitendo, playstaion)? I would LOVE that! I am going to become a pokŽmon trainer (I'm 12) Thanks!
12 The essential guide to all the Pokemon
If you're a Pokemon fan, whether you play the game or watch the cartoon, you must have this book! It is a complete catalogue of all 150 Pokemon, with pictures, descriptions and advice on their fighting techniques. My daughter will not be parted from her copy of this book, bringing it to bed with her every night.
13 This book tells you everything!!!
I have the Collector's Edition which tell you about 2 new Pokeman that the regular book doesn't. They are MEW and TOGEPI. This book let's you know their Element, Type, Height, Weight, Techniques, Strengths, Weaknesses, Evolution, When they evolve(level), and other Techniques. It also tells you about the Trainers and the Gym Leaders with their secrets and types of Pokeman. It also explains why and how they battle.
14 Awesome pokemon book.
This is an awesome book that tells you about 150 pokemon. This is a very handy book if you want to learn about a pokemon.
15 A very helpful book, but I have seen better descriptions.
I think this is a great book for people who like pokemon, but do not have much knowledge about all the pokemon.I have the game boy Pokemon Red game, and it heped me at the beginning, but as I went through the the it does not help me much
16 Absolutely PERFECT!!
I loved this book!It helped me in one of my favourite hobbies, drawing Pokemon.Thank you so much for making it!Oh, but one thing! Hitmonlee DOES NOT evolve into Hitmonchan.
17 THE MOST HORRIBLE BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an amazingly bad book with no good information on the characters except what they're good and bad against. Even that isn't much use. What a waste of money it was to buy this awful book!
18 It's very useful for those who play Pokemon on Game Boy.
The handbook tells you about lots of attacks that your Pokemon can learn. It describes every single Pokemon. It's organized and well worth your time.
19 Could be better.
I thought this book was ok. The pictures were pretty good and the bits of trivia were neat but it wouldn't have taken much to make it a lot better. the main thing it needed was an index that had the strenghs and weeknesses were.
20 This book rocks!!!
This book is really cool, I recomend this book to Pokemon lovers!!! I got the Pokemon game ( Blue version ) and this book helps me so much. It's very colourful, has a picture of each 150 pokemon, shows the order that the pokemon evolves to and when, ect.... There is only one thing, I don't think Hitmonlee evolves into Hitmonchan.
21 One Of The Best I Have Read!
This book has everything you need.It only has one mistake. It shows Himonlee evolveing into Hitmonchan.Wrong!!!!!!!It shows who they evolve into, all their attacks, their types, their height and weight, who they are good and bad against and it also has a handy checklist for your Poke'mon.
22 This book was great!
I liked this book because it gives helpful statistics, trivia, and numerically orders all the Pokemon. The only problem, however, is that it says Hitmonlee evolves into Hitmonchan, which is not true. But otherwise, a great book.
23 this book rocks!!!!
this book is really cool
I never knew that hipnolee evoles into hipnochan, untill i read this book. All the pictures were great and it had alot of info about pokemon. i recomend this book to everyone who loves pokemon!!!!!!!!!
24 This is an awesome Pokemon book!
This book gives a lot of information about all 150 Pokemon. It also tells you how to pronounce the creature's name. If you have Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow for Game Boy, this is a must!
25 Terrific!
This is an excellent book with wonderful artwork and amazing tips and strategies for getting through the game.I found the Top ten ways to care for your Pokemon section especially helpful .I definetly recommend this book to any Pokemaniac!
26 A Must for all Pok?Fans
If you're new with Pok?mon or you've become totally obsessed with it, either way you should get this book. A nice layout, and a page for every Pok?mon, and a handy pronounciation key. Yah, get it! =^.0.^= MEOWTH Daaats right!
27 Where Is Togepi?
This is an excellent book for adults like me who are clueless. I have a little problem with it, though, because I live in Japan and a lot of the names are different. Also, the book does not appear to be up-to-date. It does not have Togepi (toe-gay-pee), the Pokemon that Misty is carrying around in current episodes, the one that looks like it's still partly in an egg shell. Does anyone know Togepi's English name?
28 The book was great it taught me a lot about pokemon
The book was awesome it taught me how to evolve my pokemon(Clefairy-Clefable with moon stone)and their special moves(Cubone-Bonemerang) No wonder i rated it 5*s
29 It's Pok?rific!
This book is excellent. It has great pictures and lots of information about 150 different Pok?mon, the pronunciation key is great and this is a must for any Pok?maniac.
30 Nice art, but not very useful.
The artwork is very nice here, but it doesn't actually provide any new information on the pokemon, or anything that will help you in the game. Pronunciation guide and trivia are nice, but aren't worth buying the book.
31 Wonderful Pictures and Great Stats for Every Pkmn!
This Handbook is all I'll ever need when it comes to looking up a specific Pkmn. The top ten ways to take care of your Pkmn (Pokemon),FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) and Check list at the end of the book are a nice touch. The begining of the book is awsome too. The cover of the book seems to attract many different ages of people to it. There is one thing about it - it doesn't have Mew, of course it might be before Mew's time or Maria S. Barbo may have only wanted the original Pkmn in it - the 150 characters. The only thing I'd change would be to put more stuff in the ending pages. Oh, and I love the pic. at the end of the book! Anyways, I rate The Official Pokemon Handbook like so : * * * * * - Five Stars!!!
Totally Wonderful Work, Maria S. Barbo! It's a great buy! - NavyBlu :)
32 This is a really spiffy book!
This book is awesome. It has really great pictures and even tells you how to pronounce the names of Pok?mon. It's great if you need to quickly look up look up info on Pok?mon.
33 This is a wonderful book that is easy and fun!
I love this book! If you dig Pok?mon then you will dig this book! It has all the knowladge that you will ever need in it. The pictures are awesome, too. Whether you are a beginner Pok?mon trainer or a master, this book is the thing for you!
34 it was great for pokemon lovers

35 A colurful work of art with more then enough information!!!!
I believe this is a definite must-have book! You know pokemon like the back of your hand after you read this rewarding masterpiece. Believe me this book will be worth your money! Buy now at this great price. The ultimate pokemon guide!
36 Pokemasters -- dont waste your money.
gave it three stars because its decent for beginners to read but terrible for pokemasters because it restates everything you already know ** dont expect it to be a players guide, gives maybe 5 tips to the game throughout the whole book. all it does is describe each pokemon nothing else
37 WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book tells you everything that you wanted to know about all 150 of pokemon. My favorite thing about the book is the illustrations and facts about all the pokemon. The book is off the t.v. show mostly, I recommend this book to every person in the world who likes pokemon!!!!!!!!!!!!1
38 Big Picures
This book had some big pictures. I thank Maria S. Barbo for doing this. For now I can draw them without coping.
39 It was okay.
It was based more on the cartoon, and the cartoon's not very accurate. It has several good pics of the Pokes, though
40 I hate it
That's all I have to say, I hate it! But the game is awesome, make no mistake, the game is awesome.
41 It was really helpfull
it tells you were to go and what to do in each city for you to beat the game and which pokemon are the best to use on ach trainer andthis book is at a good price to buy and i give it 5 stars because it helped me so much it even tells you how to catch mew. And now that i have read this book i have 154 pokemon because it also teaches you how to catch togepi and the i just evoloved it in to its final stage
42 If you only buy one book in your lifetime, this is it!!
if it is on poke'mon it is in here!! I found mew, kangashkan, and machamp, to name a few, without this book they are almost impossible!!!!!
43 the best book online
pokemon!pokemon!pokemon rule.its the best book ever!if you ever read it you will probaly beat the whole game in 2 days!It rules!
44 IT was SOOOOOOOOOOO Helpful!!!
The handbook was very helpful.I found out where to find and trade for rare pokemon like JYNX, MR.MIME, and others like that. It also helped me to find out where to get hidden pokemon and find out where they were.
45 Bogus Reviews of a Book Not Yet Released!
since this book has not yet been released, how could anyone review it??!! This book may be wonderful or terrible. I sure don't know. If anyone has a pre-release copy please state so in your review.
46 Nintendos Pokemon Strategy Guide rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read Nintendo Powers Strategy Guide. The guide tells you all of the pokemon names, types, areas where you can find them, and their powers. It also taught me what tms and hms were, including the powers they can teach. It also had a battle chart to show which pokemon types had advantages over other pokemon or disadvantages. It also had a walkthrough to explain everything you need to know to become a pokemon master. And last but not least it told me how to beat the 8 gym leaders and the elite 4.This is the best strategy guide I've read so far. - pokemon master
47 It stinks!!!!
It is about an alien who comes from outer space and dances around a piece of corn and can only eat icecream sandwitches with peanut butter and dosen't have a mouth so he eats though his nose and has magical powers and collects peices of gum and licks ugly peoples noses and has 1000 furry little friends and that is what Alf is.
