Who knew that models use hemorrhoid cream to combat eye puffiness? Diane Irons knew, that's who. She's a model herself and has compiled a bunch of little-known but definitely useful beauty tips. Her advice ranges from the unusual (play classical music at mealtimes and you'll eat less; add aspirin to shampoo to combat dandruff) to the downright wacky (use mascara to touch up hair roots; use antiperspirant on your feet in summer). Hey, if it works, it works! She's also included tons of diet tips, including 50 recipes that check in at 200 calories or less per serving, as well as lists of herbs and supplements to aid quick weight loss. With many of the tips geared toward women on the run, this book is like a Hints from Heloise for the glamour set.
1 One of Diane's best books
I recently purchased this book because I am a big fan of Diane Iron's books. All of them are filled with interesting, inexpensive, and easy-to-apply tips in diet, beauty, and fashion, and I was very pleased with "The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets". Diane compiles over 230 essential pages of tips, advice, and secrets. Besides covering beauty, this book also features hair care advice, very neat fashion tips, delicious recipies all under 200 calories, diet secrets, and much, much more. For example, you can make cleansing masks out of kitty litter and mayonnaise (yes, kitty litter and mayonnaise), that work just as well, if not better, than store-bought masks. What to do if that party information says "Formal Dress" or "City Attire"? Turn to this book to find a description of good things to wear! Also, an entire chapter is devoted to secrets of models that seem to always look perfect. Did you know that many models use toothbrushes to clean their lips?- the bristles help slough off dead skin. Or that small birthday candles can get a stuck zipper to get going again? How about washing that scorched shirt from your iron with a basin of hydrogen peroxide and mild detergent?- it will bring your shirt back to life! Find many more of these useful tips, and much more in "The World's Best Kept Beauty Secrets". It's a great invesment for all women, and will help you look your best no matter what.
2 GREAT
This book was EXTREMELY interesting. It had fun, and interesting tips for things such as slimming fashion ideas, natural weight loss herbs, relaxing spa tips, and things that every woman should carry in her purse. It was very helpful. It's like the Bible for all women.
3 Improve your self-image
This book has certainly had an effect on me! Reading it was just the push I needed to get off the sidelines and really DO SOMETHING to improve my appearance and self-image. Diane Irons emphasizes those things we all know we should do, but I actually followed through on a few of her health and dieting tips and weeks later I'm still going strong, and see no burn-out in sight! Diane's ideas are easy, very affordable, and she pumps you up to do today those things you put off until tommorrow. Sure, some of it you find in magazines, but how often do you get those back out? Have it all in a book you can grab. Read it for a boost of confidence and encouragement.
4 Excellent and practicall book
Lots of practical advise, low budget and high results recommendations. Lots of natural, home made beauty recipies. Great buy!
5 Light as a meringue
"The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets" is fun, frothy reading, but based on the excerpts, it doesn't bring much that's new to the table. The author's warm, chatty tone urging women to make time for theselves, keep journals, stand up straight and project poise do not reveal anything deeper than common sense. How often have you heard these same exhortations from your mother, your friends and every advice columnist out there?
Still, it's not a bad way to spend time in a waiting room, and if you like the subject of beauty, it beats reading an out-of-date fashion magazine.
6 ...and let the Truth be known...
I don't think any reader's review will do this great book any justice. I am 56, and remember a lot of my late Mother's "beauty" secrets. Confused as I was, I had no choice other than to let her do whatever she said was necessary. In this book, you will find that home remedies do work. My own experience: Lemon Juice rinse once a month did keep me Blonde all these years(no gray hair & no Miss Clairol necessary*) I doubt that you'll read one page without asking, 'now why didn't I think of that?'. Can't give it enough praise. Give yourself a treat, just Buy it.
7 Maria-Yokohama, JAPAN
This book is a MUST read. You will learn lots of things from making your own facial mask from natural ingredients from your kitchen and how to take care of your body inside and out. I'm glad I bought this book. "Highly recommended you should try and read it"! Nothing to loose but BAD skin!!!
8 common sense beauty...and cheap, too
I really love this book. It has quite a few very useful, very simple beauty/skincare tips that I use everyday now. Who knew lemon juice was as effective as a fruit acid cream? This book is a little gem--chock full of inexpensive ideas! Get one for yourself and your mom and your sister and your friend...
9 Indeed...
...save up on beauty magazine expenses and buy this book instead!

Beauty, fashion, and style, tips which you usually see in small portions in beauty magazines are sprinkled all throughout this book. "The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets" compiles everything for your easy reference.

Learn what fashion models actually do to look slimmer, or to have glistening pearly whites, or to have flawless complexion. Read and try the beauty tips and recipes that can be found in this book. (Always do a skin patch test first, though to save yourself the trouble of skin irritation later on.) You can see a collection of beauty tips that range from the simple and expected to the downright unbelievable (the kitty litter facial mask, for example). As for me, I found that breaking up a caplet or two of Vit. E and squeezing its contents in my shampoo makes my hair healthier. The recipes with honey in it are also beneficial for me. And I found out that massaging coffee grounds on my body skin is indeed a surprisingly inexpensive way to make it suppler. An entire section is also devoted to simple and healthy meals that you can whip up fast, for you, or for your guests to feast on.

10 An addendum to my earlier review (see below):
This book is fabulous. I was particularly interested in the tip of using coffee grounds for cellulite control. I emailed Diane Irons office regarding a more specific application of the coffee grounds, and this is what she wrote back: "The coffee grounds should be warm when applied. Sit on the edge of your bathtub (or in your shower w/ newspaper beneath you). While you're massaging in the grounds, most will fall to the floor. The residue is what remains, and this should be wrapped (she didn't specify, but I assume any old plastic food wrap will do). Leave on for 5-10 minutes to detoxify and smooth. Rinse off with warm water and a loofah or vegetable brush". I tried this, and after one session, I swear my skin felt taught the rest of the day. Brilliant! If you haven't gotten this book yet, what are you waiting for?!? It's the best book of beauty/diet tips I've seen yet.
11 DIANE IRONS - A WOMAN'S BEST FRIEND!
So, maybe you just woke up and it's plain to see it is going to be a bad hair day! Perhaps, as Dddiane Irons points out, it might have had something to do with the pillow you slept on. It might have had something to do with a few other things to...but we won't tell Diane about that! What about zits, who has not absolutely, positively, never had a zit? Personally, I wish I was young enough to remember the last time I had a zit, but I do remember the feeling. It was one of life's most horrifying moments, when your whole world was about to come crashing down, like losing one of your false eyelashes in the soup while eating dinner with your new boyfriend's parents.

Diane Irons is a fantastic author. She has class, style and charisma, and flair unlimited. Through her books, she has become a woman's best friend (and she doesn't gossip behind your back either!) In this book, Diane has has tons of priceless tips and advice on beauty, fashion and nutrition, some absolutely scrumptous, low-cal recipes, and information on the value of vitamins, minerals and herbs, not only for optimum health, but for weight loss. There are endless books on the market on fashion and every celibrity seems to have his or her trendy new diet that will positively work where all others have failed, but this book has information based on sound practical advice. The author really knows how to make us look like a cool, calm, fashionable, all together person. Great author- great book!

12 One of the most used books I own
After rummaging through the first few pages, I knew I wasn't leaving the bookstore without this! Want to know how supermodels attack cellulite? They rub their morning coffee grounds into their problem areas; logic being, since caffeine is the largest ingredient in expensive cellulite creams, this is an inexpensive alternative. Got a big, angry red zit right before a date? Rub some Visine on it- it gets the red out of more than your eyes. How do supermodels' eyes look so rested and refreshed? Break out the Preperation H, my friend. The same "Shrinking of hemmoroidal tissues" can happen to puffy bags underneath your eyes, along the jawline, and on puffy cheeks. These, along with very cool fashion tips ("How to Wear Pants", "Do's and Don'ts of Shopping")and wrinkle fighting tips (sleep with a satin pillow- it won't pull your skin taught like fabric pillow, plus, you won't wake up with bed-head hair)are tips and ideas that Irons, a former model herself, has picked up along the years. She has great and realistic tips that you can actually apply and see results from. It's such a reasonably priced book, you can't go wrong. I refer to it all the time.
13 Fun Book!
Someone in my office had this book and she brought it in. About six of us were at lunch together and she brought out the book and started reading some of the beauty hints. We were hysterical. It was so much fun, I bought the book. I enjoy it very much. How can you not love something that tells you how to deal with dark, dry elbows? Or how to use strange products on your face? For some reason, I find this book funny. And, YES, I've used some of the hints!
14 The World's Best-kept Beauty Secrets
I found this book to be very helpfull with daily beauty problems. It was very intersting to read that many famous people had similar problems that I had, and was able to benefit from their experience.
15 Beet Red In Brooklyn
I read the reviews before I tried out the mayo mask and figured that I would not have a problem because I do not have sensitive skin. However, I came across the same problem as one of the other readers... irritated skin. I did not feel excrutiating pain, it felt like many commercial facials that I've tried. When I took the facial off 10 minutes after applying it, I looked like I spent way too much time in the sun in mid-July in the Sahara. I do not have fair skin, I'm a Black woman. I have never had a sun burn but I imagine this is what I would look like if I did have one. This facial may work for some but perhaps you should start out with a 5 minute facial and if it works well gradually increase the time.
16 Mayonnaise mask worked for me
I disagree with the reviewer about the mayonnaise mask. I use it every week, along with many of the other masks in the book. I love it in my hair as a conditioner. Diane Irons herself says to test the various masks on your skin to see if you have a sensitivity. I love her natural masks for skin, hair, etc. Mayonnaise is oil and eggs. They've been used as face masks forever. This book is bursting with ideas. My girlfriends and I have a special night where we try out the tips. It's our Diane Irons pajama party!
17 WARNING
Ms. Irons fails to mention that the Mayonnaise facial (on page 14) burns like crazy. I used a regular jar of mayo, left it on for 10 excrutiating minutes and not for 20 as was recommended. My cheeks/nose were red and sore (my skin is not oily nor is it sensitive), just like a sun burn. I wouldn't recommend this mask for more than 5 minutes. I haven't tried the other masks for fear of more pain and misery.
18 This book has everything!
I just received this book after seeing Ms. Irons on The View. I love it! It has beauty recipes, what to wear to a black tie (always wondered about that) as well as diet recipes, model secrets...I can't put it down. Who would believe this small, not flashy book would have so much. I love the travel tips and I love this author!! Can't wait for more books from her.
19 Old information recycled
Old hints and tricks. There was enough new information to maybe fill a magazine article, certainly not enough for a book.
20 very helpful imformation
I just wanted to correct one of the comments from above. Origins does make "Sunny Disposition" it's kinda like a foundation. I used to work for them it's a great product that not many people know about.
21 a mistake
It is a good book ..very helpful..but in Chapter 5 Model's bag, page 56 it make a mention to a product called Sunny Delight from Origin's after search for it without sucess I decided to call Origins ...Origins told me that the face cream called SUNNY DELIGHT doesn't exist .
22 At last... beauty secrets that are sensible (and they work)!
Though this book is undersized, it's really huge in content. All the beauty tips and secrets Diane Irons gives the reader are easy to understand and follow. Whether you want to know how to "get the red" out of a surfacing blemish (use visine), or how to soften the skin on your elbows and knees (use a lemon), this book should be on every woman's beauty shelf. Besides the goldmine of beauty tips and secrets, the book also has a section on food and fashion! This book is inexpensive and contains a hundred times as many tips as books costing many times more.

Quote of the Day:

Indeed, the first noble truth of Buddhism, usually translated as

`all life is suffering,' is more accurately rendered `life is filled
with a sense of pervasive unsatisfactoriness.'
-- M.D. Epstein

Perhaps the biggest disappointments were the ones you expected anyway.
