1 Adequate, but limited selection
Over the past several years, I've use the AAA guide, but found that since it only lists AAA motels, I miss a lot of good places to stay. I now prefer The Pet Travel and Fun Authority, since it has twice as many listings and also entire chapters on things to do with your pet when traveling.
2 VERY helpful
not only does this list multiple hotels in the cities i've traveled to/from, but it lists emergency animal clinics, dog parks, and dog-friendly national parks. good-to-know stuff. it stays in my car for easy reference.
it is also more specific than most hotel websites that simply state "most pets accepted" or "some pets allowed". it will state whether or not a hotel will require you to bring a crate for Fido, and if the pet-friendly rooms are in the "designated pet rooms", and which hotels have a one-time only pet fee.
3 A must-have for the road
I travel from CA to FL and back every year, almost a 6,000-mile roundtrip with three dogs, two of them large retrievers. I couldn't survive without the listings in this book. Pet policies do change, so make sure you have the most current edition so you're less likely to be surprised on the road.

4 Traveling With Your Pet The AAA PetBook
This is a good source book if you are strictly looking for help with finding accomodations where your pet can stay with you. There is a short chapter on travel tips-things you need to keep in mind of you are planning to take your pet along in the car or on a plane. There are also listings for national public lands in the US and Canada that allow pets as well as a listing of emergency vet clinics by states. As I stated, this is strictly a resource book. If you're looking for "fun vacation activities with your pet", you'll have to look at a different book, but this is a good starting place when you need to make reservations to spend the night somewhere while on the road.
5 Don't Leave Home Without It (Or Your Pet)
We drove across East Coast to West Coast with two fairly large dogs using this book to reserve our lodgings along the way. The information was accurate and well-organized. Listings included fees charged for pets at certain rooms, so we were able to avoid any extra charges. The general information on pet travel was also useful. I heartily recommend this book to anyone traveling with a pet.

Quote of the Day:

Q:	How many elephants can you fit in a VW Bug?

A: Four. Two in the front, two in the back.

Q: How can you tell if an elephant is in your refrigerator?
A: There's a footprint in the mayo.

Q: How can you tell if two elephants are in your refrigerator?
A: There's two footprints in the mayo.

Q: How can you tell if three elephants are in your refrigerator?
A: The door won't shut.

Q: How can you tell if four elephants are in your refrigerator?
A: There's a VW Bug in your driveway.

We have reason to be afraid. This is a terrible place.
