Shelley Long discovers that when the going gets tough, the tough go camping in Troop Beverly Hills, a comedy about lifestyles of the rich and outrageous. Flamboyantly wealthy Phyllis Nefler (Long) has everything money can buy--a drop-dead Beverly Hills mansion, a classic Rolls, furs, jewelry and designer gowns. The one thing she doesn't have is her husband Freddy (Craig T. Nelson), who's leaving her for good. Maybe. Determined to prove she's still the creative, energetic woman Freddy once loved, Phyllis throws luxury to the wind and becomes leader of her daughter's Wilderness Girls troop. But how much can this chic cookie take before she crumbles? Is saving her marriage really worth trading Gucci bags for sleeping bags-–not to mention actually touching bugs? Featuring cameos by Robin Leach, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pia Zadora, Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Dr. Joyce Brothers, and Cheech Marin, Shelley Long blazes new comic trails in this hilarious trial-by-campfire that leaves the wilderness wilder than ever.
1 are you sure you're wilderness girls?
this is such a funny and cute lil film. I can't tell you how many times I have seen this movie! in the 80's I had a choice to see this or working Girl at the movies. I skipped this one and later rented it! now I wish I didn't! anyway I love shlly long and this movie will always be played by me time and time again!
2 ATTENTION KMART SHOPPERS!
Shocking but as time passes by I understand why 80's comedy cheap movies where the cream of the cop....well they were simply carefree movies that didn't mind been extremely cheesy, corny, lame and outrageous, Beverly Hills Trooper, is one of those absurd movies that as simple as it comes, it's really funny....I was a kid when this movie came, and as a BOY I thought the movie was well, s..., but then it was so so so out of place, out of reality, that you end up laughing and liking Miss Long....well this is a akward movie about some brats from of course Beverly Hills tryin' to make it into the wilderness, but they missachieve some purposes cos of their wealthy nature, this movie is funny. One of those cult ones. *****FIVE STARS
3 Beverly Hills, what a thrill!
Although I did not get to see this movie until I was about 13 (I'm 18 now), I have to say that this is an absolutely hilarious movie! How can you not love seeing these spoiled Beverly Hills girls doing what they consider "roughing it" by sleeping at the Beverly Hills hotel, or making a dress-rack backpack for the craft fair? In the end though, they show that money may buy you the world, but it's true spirit that wins the race. A funny movie, with an excellent message. Buy it, watch it, you won't be disappointed!
4 And it rains there...
Stereotypical yes. But anyone who has actually been through the Girl Scout experience will appreciate this movie for what it is. Anyway the best, if only, movie about girl-scouting ever made. I was nine and when it was released, and a sleep-over fave definitely. I was rather disappointed w. my sister's troop's "I wish our leader was like that" but this movie really hits the nail on the head with Velma. Do the Freddie!
5 One of the best movies of all time!
I love this movie! I was excited to see it on DVD finally. I also enjoyed the extra scenes on the DVD. It doesn't bother me that it is not widescreen. This is a classic movie that needs to be preserved.
6 i love the 80's
This movie was cheesy, yet funny and heart warming. Watch it with the kids, I think they will enjoy it.
7 I love Shelley Long
I love Shelley Long sooooo much and look forward to every one of her films being transferred to DVD.
8 Great!!!
"Troop Beverly Hills" was another one of the childhood favorites. I would imagine what it would be like to not only live in Beverly Hills, but also imagine what it would be like to be in their Wilderness Girl Troop.

"Troop Beverly Hills" is about a woman (Shelley Long), who is about to be divorced and wants to do something that will bring her and a her daughter closer. She decides to be the troop leader of the Beverly Hills chapter of the Wilderness Girls, a ficticious version of the Girl Scouts. It is hilarious to watch the Beverly Hill troop do things that the other troops never thought these girls could accomplish due to their money and upbringing.

This is a very feel-good type of movie that will warm your heart. I would definitely suggest it to children and adults alike. It's a movie that you can watch with your entire family! You will not be disappointed!!!

9 Studio rips off public with lame standard screen TBH
You don't need the plot of the minor classic Troop Beverly Hills from me, since many other reviews have already covered it well enough. Instead I'm just basically commenting on it here to whine and cry that it was NOT released on widescreen. What a ripoff!

Yes, I'm thankful that Shelley's other films like Caveman and The Money Pit DID get released in wonderful widescreen around the same time, and Outrageous Fortune is due out as a widescreener on May 6 - but why then was Troop Beverly Hills relegated to putrid pan-and-scan?

And where do most of these hunks of junk soon end up? That's right - the giveaway bin for duds - your generic $5.99 "special" at your local Boxmart store. You know, where you find all the other weak standard screen butcherings of everything from Doc Hollywood to Spies Like Us.

I think Shelley deserves much better than this, and the same goes for her performance in Losin' It, which became another travesty of DVD justice that wound up on the pan-and-scan cutting room floor. (Thankfully her excellent tawdry turn in Night Shift also survived on widescreen, at least.)

I'll quote another reviewer named Mike from this same website, who I don't know but am in complete agreement with:

"...4 Stars for the DVD - and that's only because it's finally been released on DVD. It has nothing to do with it being a bare bones release (no special features for this 80s CLASSIC!), but rather it's ONLY been released in Full Screen! WHY!?"

Yes - WHY indeed? It costs virtually nothing more to leave it in its original widescreen format, and if anything it's a lot more trouble and money to blow up and crop off almost half the picture of every scene of a film! Mike continues:

"DVDs are more or less for collectors, and true collectors definitely prefer widescreen! I do anyway, and I'm kinda sad there is no widescreen presentation."

You said it all, Mike! But I was more than sad. I was devastated!

So I advise all Shelley Long fans to rush out and buy Caveman, The Money Pit, Night Shift and Outrageous Fortune. But hold off on buying Losin' It and Troop Beverly Hills until they give us our well-deserved W-I-D-E-S-C-R-E-E-N !!!

10 Great Movie but Not SO Great DVD
5 Stars for the movie, 4 Stars for the DVD - and that's only because it's finally been released on DVD. It has nothing to do with it being a bare bones release (no special features for this 80's CLASSIC!), but rather it's ONLY been released in Full Screen! WHY!? DVD's are more or less for collectors, and true collectors definately prefer widescreen! I do anyway, and I'm kinda sad there is no widescreen presentation.

Still a great movie tho!

11 My Favorite Movie
This is definatly one of my favorite movies. Its hilraious, original, and I defintaly recommend it to anyone.
12 this movie rocks!!!!
I have loved this film since I was a wee tot of eight years old! it still packs the laughs in every second!!!! Shelley Long is a BRILLIANT GENIUS as a troop leader! Where were the oscars on that one!?!?!?!? Genius, this film will not disappoint, buy it and enjoy!!!!!!!!
13 Valley Girls Meet the Wilderness Family - from the cover:
Shelly Long discovers that when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping ... er, camping, that is, in this hilarious comedy about lifestyles of the rich and outrageous. Flamboyantly wealthy (and pampered) Phyllis Nefler (Shelly Long) has everything money can buy - a drop dead Beverly Hills mansion, a classic Rolls, fur, jewelry and designer gowns. The one thing she doesn't have is her husband Freddy (Craig T. Nelson) who's leaving her for good. Maybe. Determined to prove she's still the creative, energetic woman Freddy once loved, Phyllis throws luxury to the wind and becomes leader of her daughter's Wilderness Girls troop. But how much can this chic cookie take before she crumbles? Is saving her marriage really worth trading her Gucci bags for sleeping bags - not to mention actually touching bugs? 14 True 80's cheese.!
Story: Troup Beverly has once aginst lost its troup leader because they can't handle the little rich snobs. And then it is taken over by Phyllis Nephler, a high maintenance high class soon-to-be Beverly Hills Divorcee. She's doing it for her daughter at first, but soon wants to help all the girls beat the odds(The Red feathers in particular) and show the rest of the wilderness girls what they can do. Watch the movie to find out the rest.!

Why its so awesome: Its hilarious, its cheezy, its got some groovy tunes, some touching scenes, and Shelly Long... hehe What else more can you ask for? If you're looking for something to brighten your spirits then "Troup Beverly Hills" is EXACTLY what you're looking for, it the "Perfect" pick-me-up.

*enjoy*

God Bless ~Amy

15 Fun for Kids
I loved this movie when I was 14.A rich, glamorous Beverly Hills woman becomes the leader of a wilderness troop and decides to teach them to survive in the wild of Beverly Hills!!
16 Another great 80's teen movie....
This movie is definitely geared for a younger audience, however die hard 80's teen flick fans of all ages can probably appreciate this movie. The soundtrack was pretty good and there are a whole bunch of celebrity cameo appearances.
17 A feel good movie extraordinaire
This movie is the one that I love to see when I am feeling down because no matter how many times I see it, it makes me feel good by the end(Well normally before the credits have started I start to smile and feel good :o)This is a movie for laughter therapy ) This is a movie that will always make one face the world anew, as there is a little bit of Phyllis Nefler
in all of us. The thing that is so good is that if Phyllis can so can we in our own individual way.
18 movie critic Ha Ha
I have always liked this movie since 1989 and now that I'm older it shows me that people can still be "fabulous" even when they are going through turmoil.
19 My Guilty Pleasure!
This movie's pretty corny but I still like it! It's got cameos by lots of hot celebs from back in the late 80s like Kareem Abdul Jabbar & Robin Leach! Also this movie shows that not all really rich people are stuck up & conceited!
20 A Just for Fun Movie
This movie is just whimsy. It is enjoyable for young girls. It has been popular at slumber parties. Shelley Long is very good
as usual. The cookie selling scene is fun and for any girl that is in scouts this will be especially an entertaining movie.
Get it just for fun. This is also one they should release on DVD.
21 Pass This Troop
I am shocked and amazed at the great acclaim this film is getting on this page. This is a very bad movie. That's all Shelley Long has made!(except Outrageous Fortune and The Brady movies). This is a waste of time and money. Awful waste.
22 This is my favorite movie!
Oh my gosh,if you have not seen this movie,go out and rent it!It's everything a good movie should be.It's funny,up-lifting,entertaining,not boring, and easy to get addicted to.I saw this when I was about 6.I didn't understand all of the jokes, but I still loved it.I'v been renting it ever since.Everytime you see it, you pick up on something new.I still occasionaly pick up on new jokes.I have all of the quotes down.Everything from "Excuse me officer" to "He permed me!" Oh gosh, you'll die laughing. If you're kids weren't around when this movie was made...get off the computer and go rent it for them.
23 A DELIGHTFUL FILM
One of my favourite "pick-me-up" films, TROOP BEVERLY HILLS is a hilarious romp filled with big belly laughs!

Shelley Long (one really under-appreciated actress) plays Phyllis Nefler, a spoiled socialite whose marriage is on the rocks. She agrees to take the helm of her daughter's wilderness girl troop, to engage in some long-overdue bonding.

Along the way, she encounters the bitchy wilderness girl leader Velda Plendor (played perfectly by Betty Thomas) and the mousy little Annie (played by Mary Gross). The "ordeal" also reunites her with her husband (Craig T. Nelson), and the maid Rossario (Shelly Morrison) could not be happier!

A truly star-studded film, boasting cameos by Dr. Joyce Brothers, Pia Zadora, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, Pee-Wee Herman, and many more!

24 WOW what an experience!
This movie is sooo touching and Funny. It has many aspects to it that makes the story a Classic. I love the way all the rich parents get together with their high-class sophisticated children. Get it! I wish i could watch it again for the first time! Oh it's very funny
25 Delightfully campy
When this movie came out, myself and the other girls in my troop knew that we had to see it.

Although the acting was lax and the fashions were way out of our league, we liked the developing sense of sisterhood and the warmth and compassion each girl and leader showed towards each other.

Phyllis Neffler is the perfect leader for the Beverly Hills wilderness girl troop because she can relate to them. Even though this troop had everything against them, they kept on being themselves and made the local wilderness girls of the year. They were the first troop to cross the jamboree finish line with their leader.

The assistant troop leader Annie Herman is initally a spy who is supposed to doccument all of the allegedly horrible things the troop is doing. Annie gradually comes to realize that the District Leader Velda Plendor is the problem.

Her transformation is one of the hidden joys of the film. By the end of the film, Annie is telling the former boss to take a hike.

26 The Greatest
Troop Beverly Hills is the funniest and greatest moovie ever made. The Beverly Hills Troop is looking for a new Wilderness Girl leader Hannah's mom Philis Nefler volunteers to be the new leader. meanwhile the head leaders assistant Velda Plender is trying to get rid of the troop. Mrs. Nefler is going through a divorce. So she takes the girls shopping and to get their nails done and they earn patches for it. Velda doesn't think that is right so she sends a spy to spy on Mrs. Nefler's troop. They are earning patches that wilderness girls do not earn. At the cookie fundraiser the troop that sells over 1,000 boxes gets to attend the annual Jamboree Troop Beverly Hills sells over 4,000 boxes and they end up winning the contest. Velda gets fired and ends up working at K-Mart.
27 VERY GOOD!
This movie is absolutely funny, what with Shelley Long as the spoiled rich mother being the new Wilderness leader for BH, and the WG's scout master trying to fire her for her wacky wardrobe and being eccentric. I give it a 8 out of 10.
28 My Childhood movie
This was my favorite movie when I was a little girl. My mother and I would always rent it. Shelly Long is incredibly hysterical in this movie. The scenes are classic! This is the ultimate mother daughter movie
29 Shelly Long is a good actress
I love this movie and Shelly Long the mom helps Emily's Girl Scout Camp and she is a counselor this a very funny movie
30 An intriging tale .......
An intriging tale of one mothers attempt to bring normalcy to her posh beverly hills daughter and her little friends.
31 Great "Flash Back to the '80's" Movie
Troop Beverly Hills is one of the greatest "'80s" movies there ever was. I saw this for the first time when I was ten (I'm 19 now) and I have loved it ever since. You just have to love this dyfunctional bunch of spoiled little rich girls because they try so hard to accomplish their task of becoming Wilderness Girls when everyone is against them. Will they succeed, or give in to what everyone else believes? Only time will tell. For those of you who are true children of the "'80s" check out the cast for such stars as Kellie Martin, Tori Spelling, and Jenny Lewis. I love this movie because it makes me feel ten years old again. Grab the sleeping bags and Barbies out of the closet and make a night of it with Troop Beverly Hills! You won't be disappointed!
32 I LOVE THIS MOVIE
I have seen this movie so many times, I never get sick of it. Shelly Long is always great. It is not the deepest movie you will ever see but you do feel good after you watch it.

37 This movie is a great example of team work!
I like this movie a lot, because it shows that even if everyone seems to be against you, you can still do what you want to do. Velda tries to get troop Beverly to quit. They don't and end up prooving her wrong. I won't spoil the ending too much, but watch the movie it's great!
