1 This is One Great Family Health Book!
If you are looking to better the health of your family, this book is the only book outside of the Bible that you will need. It is one of those books that is definitely worth reading more than once; as each time you read it, you pick-up on different things and the more you read it, the more you may find yourself "automatically" following the principles of it. This book really makes sense!
2 The trend to never end!
I have either read or read about many different health books. It would be interesting to see how this book by Rex Ressell would impress those who "bite at the hook" of every new popular book on nutrition and healthy living (like for example this kick on eating the low-carb way or the less recent low-fat/high-protein fad).

Applying what healthy living is according to what the bible says, it doesn't appear to be much different than the "Traditional Mediterranean Diet Pyramid."

What makes this book superior is its simplicity and wisdom of good sense combined with insights you will rarely get to know about, thanks to living in a world so controlled by food politics! People need their eyes open to realize it isn't in human nature for the marketing world (and/or large health organizations ---> government and/or not-for-profit organizations) to have the level of care or insight as to what is best for ideal health. Thank God for people like Rex Russell who have blessed us with well done works of research and writing to help us live at a highter standard of quality to the glory of God!

This book is a classic which should never go out of print. I'm a highly critical Christian reader and honestly do not agree with any negative comments made on this book. Far from being any marketing ploy, the impression I got from studying this book is that the writer sincerely cares about other people as much as he does about his own self. Plus, due to his centering all the principles based on God's word, the insights provided within these pages will leave a permanent impact on any reader's thinking.

From my own application of these principles laid out in this book, I can say my health has never been better! It isn't perfect nor will ever be so, but with each day of progressing into "old" age, nothing but improvements continue ---> such as better sleep, more energy, excellent mood stability (self-control and discipline), better memory, clearer thinking, no more headaches or pain of any kind, no more weight fluctuations, no more poor circulation, fantastic immune system, etc.

"What the Bible Says About Healthy Living" won't just get you thinking about what you're eating, but also what you're wearing both on the outside and inside of your body...such as: being covered by 100% cotton or wool clothing verses acrylic/polyester blends; porcelain fillings verses amalgam fillings that contain at least 50% mercury (which never diminishes in its toxicity level); etc.

We all will have to give an account for how responsible or irresponsible we tend to the gifts God gives us...the greatest gift of all being the very life we breath! The hardcover copy of this book is artistically done with high-quality photographs therefore making it a great gift and/or coffee table book.

Are you eating and living the way you should? The Bible gives us instructions on how we are to live and be well. What the Bible Says About Healthy Living is a great book that shows us how we are to live and what foods are better for us. It describes how the Creator or Great Designer gave us certain foods to keep us healthy and live for many years to come.

By giving you the foods that you should and should not eat, as well as the reasons why, the text incites a positive reaction by all who read it. By presenting the information to you, a guideline is formed so that you can see what is good for you and what is not. Also, by following the principles within the book, you will start feeling better about yourself both physically and spiritually.

This book is for those that are looking for a great eating plan to maybe lose weight or to overcome a sickness. Because a physician wrote it, there are a lot of medical facts included as well as scriptures to back up what he is saying. This book provides answers to many questions.


4 This will change your life!
I have been a diabetic for twenty years. My spouse was experiencing some health problems. We read this book looking for how a change in diet might help. We liked the way Dr. Russell explained both the divine wisdom and the scientific evidence behind the information he presents. He persuaded us to change WHAT we eat. Now that I eat the right foods, I eat as much as I want. My obesity is melting away (without increasing my excersize - which I still need to do!) I feel better, look better and even think better. My eye sight is improving. The quality of my life is better. My triglycerides dropped from 245 to 85 six weeks after implementing the changes even though I still eat fats, though only the RIGHT fats. I have bought multiple copies of this book and give them to everyone I know... READ THIS BOOK. YOUR LIFE WILL BE BETTER!!!
5 What The Bible Says About Healthy Living
This is the best book I have ever read in regard to the way Rex Russell explains the science behind God's instruction on what we should and shouldn't eat. Finally, I understand why God gave me the commands He did, and no longer have to tell myself "just because God said so". Dr. Russell puts the reason to God's authority and in so doing, explains the medical science behind it. I recommend this book to everyone, and especially those who are searching for a healthier lifestyle and an end to their medical complaints.
6 Weight Loss
After reaching a point in my life where I was severely overweight, I found Dr. Russell's book and decided to read it. WoW! Was it an eye opener! Alot of the problems that people in general experience was brought on by themselves by poor eating habits. Dr. Russell uses his medical background to validate all biblical references and intertwines the two to make a compelling argument for eating reform.
After applying Dr. Russell's 3 major eating principles, developing an active lifestyle, I have lost 21 pounds and counting! I'm happy to be returning to what God originally wanted me to be!

I work at a Naturopathic mail order company where we have an entire library of health books from A-Z. I have read,looked over, and been confused by many with conflicting health info for the public to ponder. This book, from a spiritual, practical and even a little comical perspective, clears up so many questions about the Lord and his plans for us to be healthy in a world of junk food. If I could only keep one book about health for the rest of my life, this is the one I would keep. Thank you Rex for writing this book, thank you Lord for putting it in my hands!

"What the Bible Says about Healthy Living" is one of the best nutrition books I've ever read. It makes complete and total sense and is fun and easy to read. I appreciate all the research and study done by Dr. Rex and it was so cool to see all that God has designed and intended for our bodies is proven medically by a Medical Doctor. It was also great to learn how much God loves us by all that he commanded. He commands weren't just a random list of rules but they were rules that He knew would benefit us because he created us! This book revolutionized my thinking about health and nutrition in general. Thank you Dr. Russell for all your hard work to get this book out!!
9 Want to LIVE? Get this!
If you have ever wondered WHY the Bible forbade certain foods and promoted others, this book will give you your answers! The author sites modern-day scientific reasons that backs up the Biblical claims, and points out where these claims can be found in the Bible. I thought I'd get a simple eat-this-but-not-that mentality, (or worse, a never-eat-junkfood-again suggestion,) but was surprised to find specific details that one can look for in many foods, to become healthier. Now, my family gets sick only about twice a year instead of once every six weeks!
10 Healthy Living is full of truly healthy advice.
Even if you're not of the same faith as the author, this is a book that makes sense. The information is thorough and well researched. The author has an easy to read and interesting style.
11 Nutrition according to God's word
I am in the health and fitness industry. There are countless numbers of books about what we should and shouldn't eat. They contradict eachother and are confusing. This book is different. Dr. Russell writes in a very easy to understand, logical manner on the way in which we should eat. He backs everything up by the Bible and how God intended for the people he loves to eat. This way of eating is not a "fad" diet. This is a lifesyle that dates back to the days of Genesis. This book is life changing. Awesome book! Thank you Dr. Russell. I can't wait until you write a follow-up with even more information!
12 Excellent treatment of Biblical teachings
Dr. Russell presents three main principles for healthy living. They are: "I: Eat only substances created for food. II: Eat foods as they were created. III: Don't let any food or drink become your god." In the rest of the book he then elaborates on these three principles.

In regards to the first, he quotes verses where God specifically gives certain foods to human beings for food. He then presents a list of foods mentioned in the Bible. And later in the book he goes into further details on each of these foods and the health benefits science is now showing are associated with eating them. One point he dwells on is the distinction between clean and unclean meats.

He notes some of the health problems that have been caused by people eating unclean meats. He also includes an interesting chart of clean and unclean meats. Besides each kind of meat is an indication of it's toxicity level. All clean meats have much lower levels of toxins than unclean meats. However, these toxicity levels are taken from a study done in 1953. It would be helpful if a more recent study were cited.

In regards to the second principle, he first enlarges it beyond food to look at what God said about aspects of healthy living besides food. He notes that God's directives in regards to personal hygiene and sex give health benefits to the person following them. Then later he looks at foods. He notes that the processing of foods, such as turning whole grains into refined grains, "strips away" many of the nutrients God placed in the original whole foods.

In regards to principle III, he notes the many problems that addictions to food and other substances can cause a person.

Overall, this book is excellent. Russell presents a lot of Scripture verses and supporting scientific research for what the Bible teaches. It is similar to my book "Creationist Diet: Nutrition and God-given Foods According to the Bible." Reading these two books together would give the reader a good grasp of what the Bible teaches about nutrition and how science is finally catching up to the Bible's teachings.


13 Full of wisdom based on experience and research
I just attended a seminar where Dr. Russell spoke about this very subject. His words have motivated me to make the choice to change what I eat. There is so much information in this book about the foods we eat that if known, we would never choose to eat them. In this book Dr. Russell gives an easy to remember and apply 3 step plan for eating God's way. He encourages us to eat what God provides, but is quick to point out that much of what we eat today is far from what God provided and presents the research, evidence, and scripture to support the facts.

Dr. Rex Russell's book is wonderful!

After reading his book, I have gained a new insight into the types of foods that I eat. He constantly references the scripture in his endeavor to explain God's plan for food in our lives. Dr. Russell also uses medical research studies to outline the points of his book. I feel this is a great combination for those folks that aren't "super-spiritual" but want to improve their lives.

Personally, I am very excited about putting God's plan for food into action. Please note, salvation and holiness are not determined by the foods you eat. The old laws are removed, and we are saved by grace. Dr. Russell expressly makes this point throughout his book. You will have to make your own choices, but Dr. Russell definitely gets you thinking about the poisons we consume on a daily basis.

On a side note: don't read this book if you believe in evolution, it will probably change your mind.


15 In some respects, good, but in other respects, HORRIBLE!
"~Please bear with me. I am a Christian woman, and I am very dismayed to see how well-received this book is. I suppose it belongs to a whole genre of modern "Christian" reading, which justifies its idiosyncrasies, such as a whole underdog approach to theology, and too much talk of football. Maybe that's why I don't understand, because I don't read Bill Bright or Billy Graham."~ justify his opinion that God exists. Russell even quotes an astrologer to emphasize this point! Why do we need an ASTROLOGER'S words in our minds? Is that so healthful? I get the impression that Dr. Russell did not write for a Christian audience but for a bunch of skeptics."~ betrays a T.V. mentality which I find repulsive. Dr. Russell also speaks of foods being "naked.""~ on earth could never have existed! God knew that, so he gave us this molecule." As if God had so little power."~ think The Three Principles are corny and self-flattering. It's as if Dr. Russell invented a little trademark so that you'll always refer to him when you discuss the Bible and foods. Nice marketing ploy, though.

I thought this was a great book.You can take all of the rest of the diet books and burn them.
17 Great Book!
This is the best book we have read so far on health from a biblical perspective. Dr. Russell draws on a lot of information from research to support the dietary laws of the OT. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to look at nutrition from a Christian perspective.
18 Finally a book about health that makes sense
I was not even really interested in eating healthy when my wife read this book. She kept telling me about things she read that sounded very interesting. I then read the book and it change my view about food completely. God has an awesome design if we would only trust Him and not trust our own 'wisdom'. This book makes it very clear that God has a plan for our health and we can be greatly blessed if we follow it.

I can't agree more with or improve upon anything the previous reviewers have stated. I am anxious to put these principles into action. After hearing many discussions about the book even my 6 year old asks, "Mom, is this a clean or unclean food?". Buy this book! It will make good Christmas gifts too.

For many years now, I have been teaching classes in Biblical nutrition with a focus on freshly milled grains. I learned of this book when one of the people attending my class asked if I had read Dr. Russell's book because the rules I gave in class were in his book! I had not, but promptly got it and read it. I agree with him 100%. Believe me, in the world of nutrition, that is VERY rare! I have read many of the same books as cited in Dr. Russell's book and arrived at the same conclusions. We certainly serve an awesome God!

If you wish to improve your family's health, to turn your health around, get this book and put it into practice. It is simple to do and a much less expensive way to eat.

God never intended us to eat food made by man. If you will prayerfully read this book, with an open heart and mind, I know that you will be amazed at the blessings you and your family will receive.


21 Eye-Opening and thought-provoking
This book was fabulous. It made me look at food in a whole new way. It's amazing to me how much of the stuff we are pushed to consume isn't really even food. This book has changed my life.
22 A life-changer!
Dr. Russell's medical background and his devotion to the Word of God sets this book apart from other nutrition books. His three principles are a concise summary of how our Creator intended us to view and use food. By following these three principles for six weeks, I not only feel better but no longer have a desire for "unhealthy food". And, as a bonus, I have lost a few extra pounds!

Finally a book that explains what our bodies need and don't need when it comes to food. It's amazing the toxic things we so unquestioningly consume. Dr. Russell has given our family the guidelines we have been looking for and it's no wonder that we're all feeling so much healthier. No more quilt for eating the foods that are so good for us. I'd recommend this book to anyone trying to find a simplified and biblical approach to eating.

Dr. Russell has elucidated so clearly the way in which God has intended us to eat. The three bibilical principles are easy to understand and implement. The book has helped us to change the way our family eats. As a result, we are feeling much better.

26 The Bible of Food, Diet, and a Way of Life
The word diet derives from the Greek diaita, which means "a manner of living," or lifestyle. Dr. Russell's book is the first of its kind to step back from the subject of food and see it for what it is - a blessing designed by the Almighty to aid in our service of him.

In a day and age when our culture looks at food as trendy, or as something to be addicted to or to be avoided, Dr. Russell uncovers what the Bible says about food. He does it in a way that can be easily understood and applied.

As a former chef from a 4 star restaurant and as the head of sales at a food equipment company I wish everyone, from food consumers to food producers, would read this book and apply its principles. It might cause me to have to look for a different job (one of the biblical principles that Dr. Russell rediscovers is that of eating food in as close to the form that God gives it to us in - not processed with equipment!) but it would improve peoples "manner of living" enormously!

If anyone reads the book and agrees, I would welcome their contacting me. I would like to start an association of those who support the principles that Dr. Russell has rediscovered.


27 Unique! Healthy eating from a sound, medical explanation.
Knowing for years that I needed to improve my diet, I've often flirted with "healthy foods" and diet -- but never had it within me until reading Dr. Russell's exposition.

He makes crystal clear, with only three understandable principles, all of what one should eat (and not eat) from a medical point of view --enzymes, proteins, toxins, parasites and so on and on. His book explains for example why shellfish are not good to eat, yet why they were created in the first place. It's not at all what you might expect as he unravels and debunks some of those things we were told were unhealthy --but I now understand are not.

A compelling book for anyone who's interested in developing the "foundation blocks" for how --and why-- one should change his eating habits. Me? I'm back today to order multiple copies to give to my friends.
