1 Best sailing movie EVER!
I saw this movie twice when it came out in the theaters and was bowled over by the big-screen-surround feeling of real yacht racing. You felt as if you were part of the crew, feeling the wind and wanting to hike out! The VHS and DVD versions are still wonderful to watch. The only drawback to the real sailor is some discontinuity watching the water surface go from mildly choppy to flat calm in some adjoining scenes, but the action and story line make up for the technical difficulties one senses while making this movie. I still cringe knowing the producers bought two old 12-meters just to film the mega-collision scene off Newport during a cup race. Both were destroyed while making the movie. If you're a sailor, don't miss this movie. It's still my all-time favorite.
2 Love of Sailing . . .
In reality, in 1983 Australia II skippered by John Bertrand defeated the American boat Liberty skippered by Dennis Cooper, at the end of the 7th match race in the America's Cup. This broke 132 years of victory for America in the America's Cup match race, started in 1851 when the yacht America beat British Fleet in the very first America's Cup race, with the match then named after the first winning boat.

History was made again in 1987 when the Stars & Stripes, again skippered by Dennis Conner, took back the Cup for America against Australian Kookaburra III, skippered by Iain Murray.

The movie Wind provides Hollywood's parallel take on these two historic races. The fictional Will Parker on the boat Radiance loses to Australian Jack Neville on Boomerang, at the 7th race, paralleling the US lost in 1983. The final movie race, in which Will Parker on the US Geronimo, beats out the Australian Platypus, mirrors the 1987 retake of America's Cup.

For sheer racing beauty and competition, this movie is unbeatable. I've watched the sailing parts over and over, and I can't help being amazed that a movie can bring back the same feelings that sailing does.

I race on Lake Michigan for our local Wednesday night races. For anyone who loves sailing, you will love this movie. Also, as the only woman crew member on our sailing team, I particularly identified with Kate Bass, the only woman teammate on the all-male crew -- another bit of Hollywood fiction, but an interesting story line all the same.

I also enjoyed some of the trivia at the very beginning, in which Will Parker is talking to the boat's owner as they look at model boats and discuss the boats made by Old Captain Nat himself. In reality, Captain Nat Hereshoff designed 5 winners of the America's Cup, and they are all mentioned in this movie. Defender(1895), Columbia (won twice- 1899, 1901), Reliance(1903), Resolute(1920), Rainbow(1934). I appreciated the bit of history of the America's Cup, worked into the screenplay.
3 A Great Sailing Movie
I missplaced the sailing bug I used to have in my younger days and reclaimed it a bit when I bought 'Wind' used on VHS. I lent it to someone and missed it ever since. The quality of the racing scenes of both the 12 meter boats and the super high adrenelin 14's kept reminding over the years what I have been missing till I bought my own 29' sailboat this year. The movie impressed me so much that I bought it again on DVD and watch the race scenes over and over. A movie to enhance your collection, no doubt at all.
4 Even the hard-core AC snobs and fanatics will admit --
...that they secretly love this movie. Despite its cheesy, Hollywood take on the America's Cup and its retelling of Dennis Conner's adventures 'on-the-other-side-of-the-pizza' this movie is not only beautiful eye-candy but more importantly it is exactly what they say in the movie: its good, clean fun.

If you're trying to get friends and family intersted in taking a sail, this is one of the best tools to get the blood following -- yup, there are a lot of yachts, but there is the scene with the 14s. Enough excitement to dispell the idea of sailing as a laid-back sport.

For the AC die-hards, its a chance to see the 12-meters in action once again, to hear the legendary PJ Montgomery comment on the races and read the tech/advisory credits which reads like a AC who's who list. So it isn't "real" or even possible (the 'whumper' is what kills it for some) but after all, you're looking at a movie. Enjoy it for what it is and appreciate the fact that this movie is the product of a love of sailing!

5 Adrenaline rush on the water.......
To start out with, like other reviewers have stated, it is terrific to see this movie out on DVD after so long. I realized, when I watched this movie for the first time, you don't have to be a fan of boat racing to love this movie.

The cinematography just can't be beat with absolutely wonderful shots putting you dead center in the action. It's a great experience in how the filmmakers shoot you back and forth onto the boats and then create sweeping panoramic views of strategic boat maneuvers. Top notch sailboat racing, bar none.

The DVD is remastered in high definition and is crystal clear with superb detail and color. As for sound, Dolby 5.1 or DTS would have been the icing on the cake but I won't sell this DVD short. The Dolby Surround it does have still gets the job done just fine and sounds excellent.

You can't go wrong with Wind and I recommend this movie to anyone who likes great racing and sporting competition.

6 A must have in your DVD collection!
I got my DVD version from Amazon yesterday (3/13/03), a replacement for my battered VHS tape. I've noticed some scenes in the movie trailer that were not in the movie, and I don't know why they were excluded from it.

The digital enhanced video is overwhelmingly better than the VHS, but I wish the digital cameras were available back when they filmed this movie. The digital audio really puts you in the middle of the actions.

One regret, I wish I had seen this movie in the theater when it came out.

I can't wait to go sailing in a laser this summer...

7 1 of the 10 best Sports Event Movies EVER... On DVD AT LAST!
It's been more then a decade since this sleeper cult hit was in the theaters and an equally long period of time that this film was only available on VHS and Laserdisc.

Now, at long last, the wait is over!

Wind appeals for a number of reasons.

Primarily its a very human story of ambition, competition, love, loss, and redemption. What makes the film work is fantastic photography/camerawork by Mata Yamamoto, a soaring/pumping soundtrack by Basil Poledouris, and a compelling drama played out by some very brainy characters played by some very good actors.

Think of it as "The Cutting Edge" and "Strictly Ballroom" with a little more testosterone and in a sailboat!

The DVD is pretty bare-bones, but a Digital Widescreen Hi-Definition Remastering and Dolby surround make up for it. A Special Edition would have been nice, but, considering how long we had to pray for this one it's hardly required.

8 It is about time this movie came out on DVD
I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it. If you like America's Cup, water, boats, or any such thing this movie is for you. If you like Matthew Modine in this movie watch Gross Anatomy, also a great movie.
9 Its being shipped :D
Well i can not belive it is comming. I have searched for this film for the last 3 years. The copy down at the video store wore out and they never replaced it.

I only wish is was in region 4 aswell as 1. But i will get around it im sure.

10 The BEST SPORT IN THE WORLD in DVD
Well, nobody has seen this DVD unless you were able to get an early copy somehow but this is a much anticipated release. The VHS was great but to get widescreen format and crystal clear picture of a great movie is AWESOME! The 12 meter boats weren't as quick as the boats today but Australia sure gave them a pounding and it made for some great action as this movie portrays. And it shows classic match racing with extensive tacking duels. It is a nice story about how hard work and passion can pay off if you get a chance. I will re-run this a million times over other DVDs out there. I only wish there were more movies with competitive sailing available.
11 sailing techies, rejoice!
Wind is a great film... anyone who's ever spent time on a racing boat can watch for technicalities, but the thrill of sailing is a rush for everyone. I've waited a long time for this dvd!
12 MY FAVORITE MOVIE
Absolutely the best sailing movie ever. Not the greatest story but the cinematography is awesome and let's face it, there aren't many movies about sailing.
13 FINALLY..... IT'S AVAILABLE!
I just received a message from Amazon.com that "Wind" is being released on DVD. I am hopeful that the video and audio transfer brings even more magic (not that it's needed) to an already great film. I have been trying to ascertain what the "hook" to this movie is for me, and I would guess it boils down to this: 1. A fairly believable love story 2. Great sailing action and camera work to bring back the rush of my sailing days 3. Excellent casting and character matching.

Please do yourself a favor and at least rent this movie when it becomes available, and you just may end up putting it in your collection permanently.

14 Yesss....I've been waiting for this DVD for ever!
This movie is absolutly awesome. As a sailor this is the only thing that keeps me sane in the cold winter months. I've watched my vhs copy so much the tape is worn out. I know a lot of sailors that love this movie, and it's fun for everyone. The music and cinematography of excellent. I can't wait till March!!!
15 Finally!!! WIND HAS COME TO DVD!!!
I had a feeling that this would be released right around the America's Cup Race. This is one of my favorite movies. I can't wait to view it on my 65" widescreen. If you enjoy sailing then this is a must. I have been waiting for this to be released for 2 years. Now the only thing left is to release the soundtrack.
16 PLEASE... bring WIND (Widescreen + Extras) To Region 1 DVD!
Wind, simply put, is one of my all time favorite movies.

The story, music, cinematography, acting, adrenaline, and spirit make it a deeply moving film and a must have DVD. Anamorphic widescreen, cast and crew commentary and interviews, trailers, and deleted scenes would be much appreciated.

I was fortunate enough to recently acquire the two best versions presently available which are the 1992 USA Widescreen Laserdisc Release (For $300.00... yes, ouch, but it was DEFINITELY WORTH IT to see WIND in it's original widescreen format!) and then more recently the European Region 2 release which while competent is neither Widescreen, NTSC, Region 1, nor is it in English.

As the on screen titles weren't in English either it's a fair bet this was the version released to the European movie and then rental market. Seeing Matthew and Jennifer dubbed by Euro actors did not sit well with me at all.

It's kind of sad to realize that the best version of this movie (Widescreen - English) is on a technically dead format much the same way the best version (The Director's Cut) of Peter Bogdonavich's sequel masterpiece Texasville is only available on Laserdisc. Hollywood needs to get a better system in place for finding out what older films people want to see brought to DVD rather then just guessing or waiting for product tie-ins like the Bourne Identity TV Mini-Series which was only released because the Matt Damon Theatrical ...-Fest did well at the Box Office.

17 An appeal to the Producers of ' Wind'
...It's a wonderfully inspiring film, that shows us mere landlubbing mortals that adversity can be overcome with teamwork. It reflects so accurately the difference between rich & poor and that soundtrack is awesome. Without a doubt, this is one of those movies that stirs the soul and is probably in my list at least, one of the ten best movies of the 20th Century...
18 soundtrack
...This is a great film!...
19 I can't forget this film
.... You will love it even you don't like sailing. Beautiful camera shooting. Maybe the reason of the director is a camera man before. About the SoundTrack. I have found it at internet. But it told me that has stop producing. It really make me disappointed.
20 This movie has it all!!!
This movie is sure to please everyone, even if they don't like sailing. The cinematography is exquisite. The plot carries you through from beginning to end. This movie has drama, action and comedy.

Jennifer Grey and Matthew Modine put in fine performances, as does the rest of the cast. Rob Lowe looks spectacular as usual, even though his part is a small one.

I would recommend this movie to everyone.

21 Simply an extraordinary film
We've been waiting for years for this film to be available on DVD. The VHS edition is fine, for VHS, but the experience would be so much more enjoyable in a widescreen DVD version. The film itself is just breathtaking. The mix of beautiful cinematography, thrilling sailing action, interesting characters and fine acting make it one of my all-time favorite films. To the studio: please release this film on DVD.
22 Best racing sailing movie every
This was the best movie of racing a sailboat, ever. The sounds and the action were realistic. You couldn't help but get excited.
23 "Wind" is an extraordinary movie!
This movie is one of my favorites. The story is exciting, the acting is superb. This movie will appeal to anyone who likes sailing, as well as all those who like competition of any kind. It is one of the few non-violent, yet thrilling, movies of the past two decades.
24 Awesome Photography, Music, & Teamwork
One of the few movies I watch regularly. I'm not into sailing but I enjoy... this masterpiece on many levels. For example, we were having a problem implementing teamwork in a stressful, highly technical, work environment. I brought the movie to work to convey the concept of teamwork and what it can achieve. My colleagues loved it. The music and photography is the caliber of the best IMAX movies. It would be a great movie for teenagers and twenty-somethings, to help them see how to go after their dreams. As a late 40-something, it gave me a lot of energy to keep pursuing my dreams after encountering some devastating setbacks similar in impact to those the characters experienced. In a light, funny, sometimes romantic way, life's lessons can be learned while experiencing the thrill of a lifetime--all the time encouraging the audience to "march to their own drummer" and make it fit the life they want. TOTALLY AWESOME.
25 CW Thompson
The best sailing movie I've ever seen. The action sequences were thrilling and makes you feel like part of the race. I've been waiting for the DVD release for some time now, we've almost worn out our VHS copy.
26 Wind
As a sailor I have not seen a better depiction of what it "feels" like to sail. I agree with the others.....WHERE is the DVD version...and WHERE is the soundtrack
27 Where is the soundtrack?
Have never seen such a nice job done in sailing before. Superb photography and wonderful music.
What about the sound track? How come such a wonderful music is not available????
28 Visually dazzling with the muscle of racing
Watching a sailboat race from the shore is like watching paint dry. But Carroll Ballard (also did The Black Stallion) brings to the screen the dazzling beauty and raw energy of racing, making you feel that you are there, changing sails, getting soaked and holding your breath til the finish line.
29 Let's have this in DVD already.
OK. The America's cup is coming up. Isn't it time that this movie got released in WIDESCREEN on DVD?
30 One of the Best sailing movies ever
For those of you who have ever wanted to live life by letting the wind take you this is a movie for you. The heart of this movie is the will of the human spirit to over come past defeat and triumph over adversity. Mathew Modine and Jenifer Grey complement each other as both give a superb performance. A must see for Sports fans as well. I give this movie and overall Hell Ya for any collector.
31 Hurry up with the DVD
Can you imagine the quality and clarity of those great sailing scenes pn DVD? I, like everyone else, can't believe this isn't out on DVD yet. Hurry up you guys!!!
32 not a sailor but I too am waiting for the DVD
I first saw this movie in the early 90s, on a plane ride from New York to San Fransicso. I happened to look up and fell in love with this movie. I've given my copy away to friends, twice but found I missed having this movie too much. So, I logged onto Amazon hoping to find a DVD version, but alas. I am not sailor, but I love this movie, the cinematography, the story, the inspiration. Watch this movie!
33 Cannot believe the DVD is not yet released!
For those of you who love to sail, for those of you who don't...
for those of you who like great music, for those of you who want to learn about great music...
for those of you who want to be inspired by the dreams and the dedication of a team, that left everything behind to achieve it's ultimate goal... to retrieve what was once yours and let go of... this is the movie that will become part of your soul.
34 WInd
PLEASE release this on DVD, I have worn out my VHS version!

Possibly a silly plot but one of the best sailboat racing films ever made. The photography is outstanding and will excite even non-sailors. For racers, a must have!

35 DVD....DVD....DVD....DVD...DVD..please
This is one of the best movies of all time, the filming and music is topnotch. I want to get this movie on DVD but it is not released yet. I hope the studio will release this movie on DVD sometime. I will buy it as soon as it come outs
36 How much longer do I have to wait for "Wind" on DVD!?!
As a professional mariner (and aspiring professional sailor) I can truly appreciate this movie. I am also a huge America's Cup fan so I am appreciative even more. I can't wait to add this to my DVD collection of nautical films such as "Horatio Hornblower" and "Longitude". Okay, add "Jaws" and "Jaws 2" to that mix, too!
37 RELEASE THIS ON DVD
With absolutely awesome sailing scenes this movie will look fantastic on DVD.
38 For everyone who loves the water and America's Cup sailing
Mathew Modine and Jennifer Grey give outstanding performances of a young couple trying to find their way to each other along differing future paths that are bound by two ties...their love for sailing and love for each other. Cliff Robertson gives a compelling performance which leads Modine to fight for Grey by living out their impossible dream of entering a boat in the America's Cup and finding the common bond that will last forever in time and in their hearts. With a full bodied love story and spectacular sailing cinematography, Francis Ford Coppola combines the two to give full flavor to this marvelous love tryst. This true to life challenge will fully involve your emotions right up to the ending sequence.
39 Please release this on DVD!
This film captures the spirit of the breathtaking America's Cup races between the US and Australia, and the sailing is so beautifully filmed and scored that I am transported every time I see this movie. But my video copy is wearing out, and I'm hoping fervently that a DVD will be released--and while you're at it, I've been hoping for a soundtrack album since 1992 . . . am I dreaming?
40 If only it were me on those boats...
I loved the movie....and absolute best movie ever...If you like sailing...and have any interest in racing whatsoever, this is the movie for you. There are some amazing shots that capture the ezxsence of sailing...it makes you want to get out there and sail....great for a winter's evening. Admittedly the love story plot could have been a little better....but where that is lacking, the photography and sheer brilliance of the sailing shots make up. I had to buy a second copy of the tape....coz I wore through the first....There are some gorgeous shots of International 14's skimming through the water....there are some amazing shots of the twelves....they chose some great weather, great water and great boats to film a great movie. For those aerodynamics enthusiasts, this movie is the bomb...from the high tech of sailing to the use of the Piaggio Avanti as a bizjet, this movie is stocked with some good examples of how aerodynamics shape the world! Rent the movie, or better yet, buy the movie....cuddle up on a couch with your sig. other (if they don't get seasick) and enjoy the ride. It's true..."the only thing better than winning the cup is loosing it, and then coming back to win it!!" --loose quote....sorry

Three thumbs up.... says ernie and biskit

41 Wind... An Awesome Sailing Movie
Being a fanatic of the America's Cup regatta, I personally found the movie "Wind" to be a well-crafted portrayal of this exciting, visually-breathtaking sport. From its stunning camera shots of the yachts gliding and chopping through the deep blue ocean to the emotional and physical intensity displayed by the sailors, the viewer feels like he/she is right in the middle of the action. The viewer also gains a better understanding of just how difficult it is to plan and finance an America's Cup campaign. And although some reviewers have mentioned that the love story is lacking in substance, I think it was intentional on the director's part because he wanted to focus more on the various elements involved in yacht racing. So if you enjoy movies with intense action and emotion behind beautiful scenery, then give "Wind" a try
42 DVD?
One of my favorite movies of all time. I can't believe the DVD version has yet to appear....please please please, we need the DVD. One of the most beautiful movies ever made set in the backdrop of two great yachting battles for the America's Cup. Yes, the love story is rather weak, but the intense competition and beautiful ocean backdrop more than make up for this weakness.
43 Etchells and 505
Absolutely the best in cinematography. The plot is a little weak but still one of, if not THE favorite movie of mine of all time. We need this on DVD!!! If there was ever a movie that would be well served by DVD, this is it. A must see for any sailor or wantabe sailor. I bet I've watched it 40 times.
44 Simply awesome
PLEASE RELEASE THIS ON DVD IN THE US! The DVD for this movie is released in region 2 coding in Europe but not here. We need it. Anyone who has ever been on the water will love the footage in this film. The love story is so so, but whenever you want the sailing feeling to return after a long winter indoors just watch the Int'l 14 scene or any of the racing 12m scenes. Simply awesome footage.
45 Wow! The Ultimate Sailing Movie!
The sailing in this movie is amazing...any sailer worth his/her salt has seen this movie at least three times, it is the quintessential sailing movie of all time! The romantic/angst-filled plot? There was a plot? I didn't notice. But hey, this is still one of my favorite movies of all time!!!
46 A true taste of America's Cup competition.
I loved it, though overly dramatized; who doesn't turn the base and treble above real and boost the green to watch the game? Most of the race events have actually happened in America's Cup competition, some even in the 2000 challenge. The music in particular and the sound in general is superb. The International 14 sequence and the last meeting of the twelves was the best. I don't want to get on a rant but I only own about 20 videos total and 2 of them are "Wind"
47 Great sailing movie
Great footage of the big boat races, please release on Letterbox DVD
48 Wheres the DVD? Great Movie
Being an avid sailor, i must say, the footage is astounding, effectively capturing the medley of grace and power that is put into the twelves and the Americas Cup. When does this movie come out on DVD, it cant cost much!
49 Absolutly Exhilarating!
Despite some minor sailing technicalities this movie is great. The scene with the Intn'l 14's are awesome. The America's Cup racing is sweet. Please release this on DVD.
50 A Great Film, One to Own
Both movie fans and sailors can enjoy this film. This very well made movie somewhat documents the events around Dennis Conners loss and reconquest for the Cup in the 1980s.(in truth this fictional story is a combination of several Americas Cups from '77-'87) The cinemetography and sound is incredible, however some think that the romantic story is a bit weak. Sailors might find some technical weaknesses, however the movie is incredibly accurate in respect to real match racing. Undoubtedly the best sailing movie made to date, this is one to own on video, Laser Disc, or when it comes out on DVD.
51 Outstanding Cinematography
This movie will capture the hearts of all sailors. The filming of the race sequences are remarkable. While those technically proficient in the sport may notice a few weak spots, it superbly documents the thrills and excitement of a race. A must see! Especially as this year begins with the 2000 America's Cup races. PLEASE PUT ON DVD!
52 Outstanding Cinematography

53 Good footage, poor movie.
Some of the sailing footage is fun to watch. My favorite is the 14's racing in Newport. The love story part of the film is silly and its adaptation to a sailing context is strained, but where the movie very seriously loses it, in my view, is in the weird depiction of "technical" aspects of sailing. For the most part, this is downright embarrassing.

The funniest is when they come up with the innovative "whomper" sail. I have heard non-racers comment on the movie to the effect of "Why didn't the other racers think of that sail?" to which the answer is, of course: "It's against the rules." But I have to thank "Wind" for coming up with my favorite nick-name for asymetrical spinnakers!

54 One of my alltime favorites.
My roommate and I were on our college sailing team when this first came out in the theater and we were mezmerized. What a GREAT movie! In that TV sitcom that Jennifer Grey is in now, she made a joke about what a bomb "Wind" was and I winced. The photography and the sailing in this movie are just so awesome! I echo everyone elses comments in that I can't wait for it to come out on DVD SOMEDAY!
55 spectacular sailing footages but poor romantic story.
I agreed with every reader 's comment on this movie. It is the most spetacular sailing movie I ever see. But the love story was not directed with any meanings. Also I agree with others is: When will they release a DVD version of this movie?
56 AN ALLTIME FAVORITE!!
ONE OF THE HIDDEN TREASURES IN THE FILM LIBRARIES....A MUST BUY...ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES OUT ON DVD....AND I HOPE THAT'S SOONER THEN LATER.
57 One of the best films ever and still not on DVD?
Still one of my favorite movies of all time, it's a shame that the studio hasn't moved it to DVD format yet. Maybe the second time around in DVD it will get the acclaim it deserves.
58 More exhilarating than Chariots of Fire
This is a movie worth seeing. The photography and the sailing sequences are phenomenal. THe movie takes you off the edge of your seat and onto the screen.
59 A Visual Feast: Begs to be in DVD format
This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. The visuals of the ocean, the sail sequences, and the great soundtrack make this an astounding movie experience. For all you out there with the clout to get it done, get this movie on DVD.
60 Love Beats to Windward!
Please tell them to stop ruining good technical action films with hokey love stories. This film has the best footage of any sailing action I have ever seen, and I have been involved in same for some years now. This movie would have been a cult classic for the "sailnuts" if not for that weak plotline of Mathew Modine's and Jennifer Grey's on again, off again love story. No disrespect intended for the the cast, but those responsible for tainting this exciting story with mere human romantic foibles, should be keelhauled, lashed with the "cat", or better yet, forced to watch bad romance novels made into "B" movies (ala Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange"). Bad love story aside, this is a great flick to watch if you love sailing.
61 Unbelievable !!!
What an amazingly filmed picture. Does ANYONE know where I can get the soundtrack ? I have looked everywhere to no avail.
62 heart-bouncer
This is a movie that really makes me go crazy, not because of the women but because of the sailing first the international 14 then the america's cuppers. I really enjoyede the part where they design and build the new boat ( and the whomper )
63 Need this terrific movie in DVD format!
An Excellent sailing movie with a good storyline including the racing competition. Beautiful photography of boats, regattas and water. No need to be a sailor to enjoy this movie.

Need to have this movie in DVD format. Tell the studio to get it done.

64 A great movie that will lift your sailing soul.
This movie has been a great inspiration for most of my teen life. I have never seen such a great portrail of the America's Cup. Why do you say? It's the only movie about the ever harsh life of sailor's that come into contact with a racing atmosphere in such a competitive environment. I believe that even the small detials of this movie such as the racing tactics were accounted for. This movie is a plus for sailing addicts, and family's all around.
65 I'm searching for the soundtrack-HELP!!!!
This a great movie that you never get tried of. I've been searching for the end of the movie song. "A Dream comes back to you" by Wendy Waldman Tried her CD list with no luck, so please help.
66 Great movie to motivate yourself and your kids
This movie is a spectacular adventure that is inspirational for those of us locked in our jobs on land. It is an interesting, contemporary motivational movie that should be shown to young kids and teenagers who might be bored with life. This movie is an eye opener on several issues from feminism to never giving up. The sound track on the video is really envigorating but I don't think it is available on CD. This should be on the shelf of every family with children. Amazon.com should advertise it widely. It is an inspirational, uplifting and positive movie that should have gotten more play when it was originally released. There is no preaching like a half time locker room speech...just a lot smart people from engineers, buiders, to crew members working together to grasp a prize just beyond their reach. The final racing sequence is worth the price of admission alone!!!!

If you have a large screen TV, this was made for it. The sound effects are thrilling and the audio portion is done so well you think you are on the boat getting soaked every time the waves slap against the hull.

Check it out!!!!!

67 High Intensity Sailing AND a bonus love story!
Hard Core dinghy and catamaran racers can't deny that the nail biting International 14 segment is what sailboat racing is all about. Those that have seen this film and understand the level of intensity will certainly rewind this segment a half dozen times, or more. Hardcore sailors would love to see 90 minutes of this type of rare "on the water" cinematography. As far as the keel boat sailing is concerned, well, match racing can only be so interesting, but what else to sailors have to do in the middle of the winter. This is a must-see for anyone that wants to understand the first thing about competitive sailing. I only wish I could have seen this one on the big screen. Jennifer Grey isn't bad either.
68 Superb, maybe only, flick with the feel of sailboat racing.
At first glance, maybe a weak rendition of the power of the America's cup. Like Top Gun, frought with simplifications and inaccuracies for the sake of those who wouldn't understand an accurate portrayal. To an aficionado, it is really quite accurate....read John Bertrand's account of the '83 race and Dennis Connor's account of the '83 and '87 races and you will see all the bases covered. Wind is fiction, no doubt but all the situations have been constructed from factual occurrances...Superb cinematography, wonderful soundtrack; a must see over and over if you have ever raced a sailboat of any size....

Quote of the Day:

Q:	Why did the programmer call his mother long distance?

A: Because that was her name.

The truth you speak has no past and no future. It is, and that's all it
needs to be.
